A manual meat grinder is a necessary tool in the kitchen, because, unlike an electric one, it will never stop working due to power outages.

Most modern hand tools are made of high quality and reliable material for centuries. There are also modern meat grinders made of durable plastic. Such a meat grinder, of course, is easier to break than a cast-iron one. Therefore, you should be more careful with it.

Manual cast iron meat grinder

A cast iron meat grinder is a faithful assistant in the kitchen. She will serve for a very long time. And to break it, you need to try very hard. This is her advantage. The disadvantage of a cast iron meat grinder is that it is very heavy compared to other devices.

The cast iron meat grinder is very heavy, but works flawlessly

Meat grinders made of aluminum alloys and plastic models

A meat grinder made of aluminum alloys is much lighter than cast iron. And during operation it will last a very long time faithfully. There is only one drawback of such a device - sometimes the hands get very tired when grinding a large amount of meat or other products.

Plastic models of meat grinders are made of high quality and very durable materials. But, nevertheless, this model is not as durable as a cast-iron meat grinder, and its parts can quickly fail. Therefore, it is important to carefully operate the meat grinder.

The principle of operation of a manual meat grinder

A manual meat grinder, in terms of design, is a fairly simple device. Its work is based on two things - a manual drive and mechanical pressure created by the auger. The grinding process looks like this:

  • meat, fish or any other product is put into the receiver and gets on the screw shaft;
  • then the product is pressed against the grate and cut off with a special four-blade knife that slides over the surface of this grate;
  • products are minced continuously: the meat is placed in the receiver and then exits through the grate.

The principle of operation is simple: lay the products and get minced meat. Simply and easily!

What does a meat grinder consist of and what is the purpose of the parts

What does a classic handheld device consist of:

  1. Frame:
    A. Meat receiver;
    B. Mounting clamp;
  2. Lever;
  3. Auger with left-hand thread;
  4. Bearing bushing;
  5. Cutting knife with 4 blades;
  6. Lattice;
  7. union nut;
  8. Eyebolt for attaching the handle

Meat grinder disassembled

Also, additional grills with different hole diameters, knives, nozzles for making sausages, sausages and freshly squeezed juice can be attached to the device.

IMPORTANT!

Nozzles must be sharpened regularly, not allowed to be used for cutting too hard or sinewy semi-finished meat products.

The screw shaft is an important and basic part. It has the appearance of a spiral, which, during operation, grinds excess meat, advancing them to nozzles with knives. It is this mechanism that requires the use of durable metal.

Screw shaft - conductor of products inside the device

Knife and special cutting attachments. They do all the work of chopping, cutting and crushing meat or any other products. It is made mainly from stainless materials. It is necessary to sharpen knives for better and better work, even though during rotation the steel is sharpened against the grate.

The knife must be installed correctly, otherwise the device may jam

IMPORTANT!

The structure of the knife and its shape affect the grinding of the product. For example, if the knife has a curved blade, it means that it will easily grind the veins and fibers of the meat, while not allowing the screw shaft to clog.

The grate has three types of hole diameters:

  1. Very large - 12 mm. Grid with three or four holes. Used for minced meat for sausages. Not always included.
  2. Large holes - 8 mm. This grill is ideal for preparing minced meat.
  3. Medium holes - 4-4.5 mm. Universal grid. Suitable for cooking minced meat for cutlets. Included.
  4. Fine holes - 3 mm. Pate grill. It is ideal for making pâté or puree.

By means of these lattices it is possible to receive forcemeat of large or small grinding. It all depends on your preference

The nut (fixing ring) clamps and fixes the grate, knife and auger shaft. Sometimes it can be difficult to unscrew it after finishing work. But this problem is easily solved with the help of ordinary cloth draped over the nut. So, the hand does not slip, and the part is easily unscrewed.

A manual cast-iron or aluminum meat grinder, especially from Soviet times, is attached to the work surface using a threaded device (feet). And therefore, in order to exclude the movement of the device on the table, you need to put something under the metal base. It can be a newspaper folded several times. In modern models, the mounting base is plastic or rubber, and therefore the device is attached to the table much more reliably.

How to properly assemble a manual meat grinder step by step with a photo of the process

So, how to properly assemble a manual mechanical device? The easiest way is to follow the assembly procedure according to the instructions for use of the product. But if the instruction is lost, then follow the step by step assembly method. So we start.

The first step is to prepare all the elements and carefully lay them out in front of you.

Screw shaft installation

IllustrationAction Description
For models with a collapsible body, it is necessary to install a cylinder for feeding meat.
Next, we insert the auger shaft into the body so that the wide part of the shaft is in the place where the handle is attached. That is, in the narrowest opening of the meat grinder. The thin side of the auger should be in a wide and round hole. There will also be a knife.

How to insert a knife into a meat grinder

Knives are of two types: with one-sided and double-sided cutting part.

IllustrationAction Description

Once the auger is in place, take a one-sided blade and place it on the auger shaft.

ATTENTION!

The flat part of the blade should face the grate and slide over it. But not vice versa.

IMPORTANT!

It happens that the knife is installed incorrectly. And then there is little sense from such a meat grinder. The meat is not ground, but only choked. And in this case, the device may simply jam.

A knife with a double-sided cutting part can be placed on either side. There is no difference. How to properly install a knife in a meat grinder, and what they are, you can see in this video.

Installing the grate and screwing the handle

IllustrationAction Description
After the knife is put in place, you need to correctly install the grate. It's easier than a knife. The main thing is to install it so that the notch on the grate coincides with the protrusion on the body of the kitchen assistant.
Then simply fix the entire structure with a locking nut, it is also called a union nut, on the meat grinder body.
Next, we fix the meat receiver.

Now it remains only to screw the handle from the back with a screw. Everything. Meat grinder assembled. You just need to install it on the work surface, and you can get to work.

Installing the meat grinder on the work surface

The meat grinder must be as stable as possible, otherwise you will have to make efforts to keep the unit in place while working on it

It is easy to screw the meat grinder to the work surface. It is necessary to attach the device to the table with the help of a “foot”. And in order to firmly fix the kitchen unit, you can put a newspaper or soft cloth between the countertop and the "foot". Dense rubber is even better for this role.

How to properly assemble a manual meat grinder if you need to put a nozzle

Most meat grinders are equipped with various nozzles and grates for making sausages, sausages, juice and many other goodies. But not everyone knows how to properly insert a nozzle, knife or grate into a meat grinder. After all, the assembly procedure for a meat grinder with a nozzle is slightly different:

  • insert the screw shaft into the main body. The wide part of the shaft is placed in the place where the handle is attached. The thin one should be in the place where the grate is attached;
  • then put the grid. It can be with very large holes or medium. It all depends on the recipe and your preferences;
  • after installing the nozzle. Just make sure that there are no chips or roughness on it. Otherwise, you run the risk of tearing the intestine, which is put on the nozzle when making sausages and kebbe;
  • fix the structure with a clamping nut, and now it remains only to screw the handle. That's all. Nothing complicated. Is not it?

ATTENTION!

When making sausages and kebbe, a knife is not used. And all because ready-made minced meat is put into a meat grinder with such nozzles;

Rules for the care of a manual meat grinder

After the meat is ground, it is very important to wash the meat grinder immediately. Some housewives advise skipping a piece of cracker through a meat grinder, they say, it cleans out all the remnants of meat, and you can no longer wash it. But no, pieces of meat can remain, and then a very unpleasant rotten smell will appear in the kitchen. Getting rid of it will not be difficult, but very unpleasant. Therefore, after work, you must immediately rinse the unit. First you need to parse it:

  • unscrew the handle;
  • then unscrew the fixing nut. If the hand slips and cannot be unscrewed, use a cloth. Just throw it on the nut, and then everything will work out;
  • remove the grate and knife;
  • take out the screw shaft.

After that, clean the parts from pieces of meat and wash them under running water with any dish detergent. Then spread the parts on a dry and clean towel and dry well. It is best to store the meat grinder directly unassembled.

So, just nothing will rust from accidentally getting inside the water. Collect only before work. So, as you can see, the process of assembling a kitchen helper is very simple. The main thing is to watch how you install the main elements. Good luck to you!

Content

Every housewife in the kitchen has such a necessary device as a meat grinder. The modern market offers a very large selection of automatic assistants, analogues with an electric drive. An ordinary mechanical meat grinder is not inferior to its positions in front of automation, it is no less popular. There are several reasons for this, but perhaps the most important is ease of use.

What is a manual meat grinder

A manual meat grinder is a mechanical device that is necessary for chopping meat or fish for minced meat. The device is used for processing other products used in the manufacture of noodles, spaghetti, juice, cookies. The main advantage is the price, the ability to quickly assemble, grind, disassemble, clean. The only negative - a very laborious process when working with meat - requires the use of little physical strength.

There are several types of devices for grinding meat. They differ in the principle of action:

  1. Manual or mechanical. The process of processing products by hand, made of cast iron, aluminum, plastic, stainless steel.
  2. Universal. Reminiscent of a food processor, equipped with many functions and modes. Ideal when squeezing juices, cooking cookies, noodles. Safe.
  3. Combine. There is no auger familiar to users (torque shaft). A special knife (impeller) turns all products into a homogeneous mass.

According to the materials of manufacture, devices for mechanical grinding of products are produced in cast iron, aluminum, plastic, and stainless steel. Peculiarities:

  1. Cast iron are considered durable. The disadvantage is that with a sharp fall, there are splits in the body.
  2. Aluminum depends on the composition. The device with the addition of silicon is considered durable, withstands shock. Aluminum-magnesium alloy is very brittle.
  3. Plastic models are light, equipped with a meat pushing press, a vacuum mount that can be easily held even in the middle of the table.
  4. Stainless steel grinders are practical.

The choice of many housewives falls on mechanical models of devices. This is explained:

  1. Low cost.
  2. It is believed that minced meat, which is processed on a manual device, is much tastier than on an electric meat grinder.
  3. Independence from the mains. You can work in any conditions, for example, in the country.
  4. Durability, the ability to quickly and cheaply replace, if necessary, parts. Knives are blunt - you can sharpen them, nozzles are lost - they are always on sale.
  5. Compact size.
  6. Silent operation.
  7. Easy to assemble and use.

Device

The design of the device includes several components. The whole mechanism will work only if properly assembled. The classic set of a mechanical meat grinder - 7 parts. It:

  • frame;
  • meat receiver bell;
  • shaft of Archimedes or auger, which feeds the meat to the knife;
  • wing or disc knife;
  • nozzles;
  • grinding grate;
  • fastening in the form of a clamping nut for a knife;
  • pens;
  • screw or suction cups.

The composition of the parts included in the mechanical device for food processing is similar to the electrical one, but there are still differences. Each of them has its own purpose. Characteristics:

  • a metal or plastic case - a cast container with a meat receiver (a tube-bell expanding upwards);
  • spiral shaft - pushes the meat to the incisors;
  • knives - cruciform or disc-shaped;
  • grid with holes of different diameters to control the degree of grinding;
  • the clamping cover is shaped like a large nut;
  • handle - mounted on the back of the protruding part of the shaft, fastened with gaskets and a screw;
  • clamp - fixes the device on the table.

The first thing to consider when assembling this household appliance is that all parts fit snugly together. The quality of minced meat is affected by the density of contact between the knife and the grate. The classic version of the incisors is four-bladed. As for the grates, they have different slots, but the smaller the holes, the more tender the meat will turn out. The kit includes additional parts in the form of metal (plastic) nozzles of different sizes and shapes, which are designed for preparing cookies, mashed potatoes, chopping vegetables and fruits.

How to assemble

To assemble a manual meat grinder, you must follow a certain algorithm. The sequence is:

  1. Take the body, the largest part with three holes.
  2. Place a shaft (helical shape) into the large round socket to push the contents towards the incisors.
  3. Attach the knife for a manual meat grinder with a concave part to the shaft (this position grinds food).
  4. Install the grate, fit snugly to the flat side of the knife. It is necessary to make it so that the notch (groove) on the part sits on the ledge of the body. This will secure the grate.

After all the details are installed, the next step is fixing. This is done in this way:

  1. Everything is fixed with a large ring (clamping cap), which is threaded onto the body.
  2. On the reverse side, the handle is attached with two gaskets and a screw.
  3. The final stage is to place the device on a flat surface. To do this, you need to install the meat grinder on the edge of the table, using the screw located at the bottom of the body, screw it into the countertop according to the principle of a vice.

The principle of operation of such a device is to supply ingredients for grinding into the meat receiver. It is not recommended to take very large pieces, because they can get stuck, causing work to stop. You will have to disassemble the device and remove the meat. A spiral shaft pushes the meat towards the knives, which cut it into pieces (depending on the type of cutter). They go to the grate, the holes in which grind them to the desired state. The resulting minced meat comes out of the nozzle and falls into a bowl, which must first be substituted from the side of the clamping lid.

Types of manual mechanical meat grinders

Varieties of mechanical meat grinders are determined by the materials of manufacture. On sale there are models made of cast iron, aluminum with various alloys, plastic, stainless steel. How to choose a manual mechanical meat grinder

The range of kitchen appliances for grinding food is very wide, which makes it difficult to choose. The criteria for choosing a particular model are simple:

  1. Manufacturing material. It all depends on personal preference.
  2. Equipment. If you plan to use not only for meat, it is desirable that there are several nozzles.
  3. Method of fastening to the table. This is especially true of plastic meat grinders. Silicone should be undamaged, durable, moderately dense.
  4. Price. The price of mechanical meat grinders is lower than electric ones, it depends on the material of manufacture, configuration.

You can buy a manual meat grinder in the online store, at specialized points of sale. Not very expensive, if there are shares, if there is a sale, the purchase will be cheap. The discount is provided for regular customers. In the regions of Moscow, St. Petersburg, the cost does not differ much, but is determined by the configuration and functionality of the meat grinder. You can arrange and order delivery by mail, courier or pickup.

The juicer looks unpretentious and simple in design, but once you work with it, you can no longer force yourself to use your industrial combine with an electric drive and numerous nozzles: after it, the whole kitchen will again have to be washed and all the nozzles cleaned.

In a home-made juicer, then only three parts are washed, and the seeds and pulp do not get stuck, and the performance is such that, although manually, we get a bucket of tomato juice in 30-40 minutes.

Juicer device

Outwardly, the juicer resembles a meat grinder: the clamp is also attached to the table, the same socket of the loading window, the same handle. However, this is where the similarity ends, since the principle of operation is completely different: there is no auger and familiar knives inside, although there is a grate at the exit. Instead of a screw - a small drum with scrapers-knives. With their blades, they grab a tomato (or slices, if large) and drag it along when the handle is turned, pushing it into the narrowing gap between the body and the drum.

Rice. 1. Juicer-meat grinder and its main parts:
1 - body assembly, 2 - drum, 3 - juice tray, 4 - scrapers-knives, 5 - handle with shaft.

The device of the mechanism is extremely simple. The parts visible from the outside are the clamp, two lamellar bracket posts above it, a bin with a handle and a mesh window for juice and a pulp exit window, with two trays below them. Inside, there is one single unit - a drum, and in it - plates of retractable scraper knives with a spacer spring. The drum with its thickened bottom with a threaded hole is screwed onto the shaft shank, which is connected to the drive handle. The shaft bearing and at the same time the stuffing box is a fluoroplastic bushing, the body of which is a steel bushing welded to the sidewall of the hopper.

Rice. 2. The main parts of the juicer:
1 - the front wall of the bunker. 2 - pulp tray, 3 - pulp exit window, 4 - shaft, 5 - handle. 6 - drum, 7.20 - side walls of the bunker (wall 20 - with a hole), 8 - knife (recessed), 9 - tomato. 10 - juice tray, 11 - stand, 12 - clamp, 13 - handle rod, 14 - axle, 15 - bearing housing, 16 - bearing (PTFE bushing), 17 - mesh (or perforated strip with holes with a diameter of 1.5 mm), 18 - knife (in the extended state), 19 - knife spring.

A mesh (a perforated plate with a hole 1.5 mm in diameter) is welded to the lower window of the hopper - through it the juice flows to a long tray, fixed with bent ears in specially sawn grooves of the bracket racks. The pulp tray is welded to the hopper below its top window.

Rice. 3. Drum assembly (assembly):
1 - handle, 2 - shaft, 3 - bearing housing, 4 - bearing (PTFE bushing), 5.9 - hopper walls, 6 - drum, 7 - knives, 8 - spring.

The scrapers-knives are connected by a spacer spring. To do this, their plates are cut from below into three “petals”: the two extreme ones are bent in opposite directions (stop), the middle one is inserted into the spring. At the top of the plate there is a lateral protrusion that limits its indentation into the slot of the drum.

The handle with the shaft is assembled as a single unit. The second assembly unit will be a drum with knives on a spring. It is inserted on top of the bunker; then a shaft is inserted into the fluoroplastic sleeve, which is carefully screwed to the drum. It remains to install the juice tray - and the harvester is ready to work.

Due to the eccentric arrangement of the drum in relation to the walls of the body, the scraper knives sliding along them, the closer they are to the grid, are more and more recessed into the slot of the drum, and the tomatoes carried by them are squeezed more and more, kneading. On the grid, they are already practically rubbed through its holes, completely releasing the juice under the pressure of the drum. And the almost dry pulp, which is then released at the exit from the grid, is pushed out by the knives through the window onto the discharge tray.

The mechanism is disassembled just as easily as it was assembled: the juice tray is removed, the shaft is unscrewed from the drum (by reverse rotation of the handle) and the freed drum with knives is removed from the hopper - everything can be washed.

It seems that this simple machine would be of great help to amateur gardeners and gardeners - after all, any soft fruits, berries and vegetables can be passed through it. The only exceptions are those that do not have seeds, but bones: they must first be removed, and the rest passed through a juicer.

The proposed design was designed for tomatoes and is designed for a maximum diameter of 50-60 mm. When using the machine for other types of vegetables, berries, fruits, appropriate changes can be made to the dimensions of the hopper, drum and other components and parts.

I am sure that everyone who makes such a device will be satisfied.

G. Astakhov Rostov-on-Don

A meat grinder is an essential kitchen utensil that should be in every home. Many housewives prefer modern electrical appliances. There are many reasons for this: convenience, saving time and effort, stylish design. However, some still remain faithful to the usual manual meat grinder - but how to correctly assemble it for work?

Soviet meat grinder

Design features

Before assembling a meat grinder, you need to imagine what it includes. The manual model, or mechanical, is the most popular. It is in almost every home.

The body is its main part. It is usually made from a metal alloy. When the assembly of the device begins, an auger is inserted into the case - this is a thread at the rear end, where the handle of the structure is attached to a screw with a steel or plastic lamb. So, in order to prepare the Soviet mechanical meat grinder for work, it is necessary to put its components in front of you:

  • frame;
  • meat receiver (the part where the products are loaded, more often it is non-removable, that is, it is located in the case);
  • screw shaft (this is a spiral);
  • knife (disk or winged, it is cruciform, reminiscent of a propeller);
  • grate (needed to grind the product as much as possible);
  • clamping nut that secures the knife and grate);
  • handle, which is fastened with a nut;
  • screw or nut that secures the handle to the body.

Manual meat grinder at work

The electric model is easier to prepare, since its design is different from its predecessor, although it is very similar. A significant difference between an electrical device is the housing. If for a manual one it always looks the same and is made of metal, then in the second case (depending on the manufacturer), the case can be plastic, steel, made of alloy, different in shape. This device also does not have a handle, since it works from the electrical network - the device is powered by an engine located inside the case.

The electric meat grinder consists of the following parts:

  • frame;
  • product receiver (looks like a bowl);
  • auger (feeds products for grinding);
  • grate (round disk with holes);
  • clamping nut that fastens parts of the structure;
  • electrical mechanism (motor that drives the device).

The principle of operation is that products cut into pieces are placed in a bowl. When they hit the auger, they move down to the knife. The shank of the auger is connected to the wire. Simultaneously with the first, the knife adjacent to the grate also rotates. The meat is chopped with a knife, then the auger pushes it through the holes of the grate into a plate. The sequence is simple.

Electric meat grinder

Assembly diagram of an electric and manual meat grinder

Assembling a meat grinder is not difficult. Much more troublesome to disassemble and clean after use.

It is not difficult to prepare a manual meat grinder if you follow a specific sequence and know the names of the design details. There are two types of meat grinders on the market today: mechanical and electric. The first is also called manual, but it is made of steel. The electrical housing can include not only steel, but also other alloys, it can even consist entirely of plastic.

If we compare the mechanical and electrical models, then the second one does not have a handle. Instead, there is an engine inside the case. As a rule, the assembly scheme for a meat grinder of any kind does not cause difficulties, since the old Soviet design is known to everyone, and instructions are provided for the electric one. It is much more difficult to disassemble and clean it, since physical efforts must be involved in this process. What is this design for? Basically, it grinds meat, crackers. It is adapted for cooking homemade sausage or minced meat. Before assembling, it is necessary to lay out clean parts in front of you.

Assembly diagram of a hand-held device

You can grind meat not only with a meat grinder, but also with a blender. It's even more convenient. However, the minced meat will turn out to be very liquid in consistency, it will resemble mashed potatoes. Both devices are good and have their purpose. If there is no blender, then you can buy additional accessories. For example, to a handheld device - several double-sided blades, gratings of different diameters, knives.

We collect a manual meat grinder

How to assemble a manual meat grinder quickly step by step? To do this is quite simple. The old model is, perhaps, in any home, and to use it, follow the device assembly scheme:

  1. To get started, take the meat grinder body and spiral (screw shaft). The second part has one side thinner than the other - this means that a knife and a grate are attached to it, and a handle is attached to the thickened one. The shaft is fixed so that the thickening is visible from the outside. Then a handle is installed on it and fixed with a screw.
  2. On the other side of the shaft is a knife. On the one hand, the winged knife is convex, and on the other, it is flat. The flat part should face the grate. If the knife is circular, then there should be cutting edges of this part near the grate. It is very important to properly fasten the knife, otherwise the meat will not be crushed, but choked. It is better to use the knives that come with the meat grinder.
  3. After installing the knife, the grate is attached to the rod finger. This part should fit very tightly to the knife. Make sure that the grate hits the protrusion on the device body, otherwise it will not be possible to tighten the clamping nut.
  4. The last stage of assembly is the fixation of the previously installed elements with a clamping nut. It is twisted clockwise.

Please note that in Soviet models there is a special foot on the body, which is designed to attach the device to a work surface, for example, to the edge of a table. You need to apply force to fix such a model. There is no such element in electrical devices, and modern manual devices are equipped with plastic paws, so they are easier to mount.

How to assemble an electric meat grinder

The step-by-step assembly of a modern electric meat grinder may seem simple to someone, since detailed instructions with assembly steps are attached to the household appliance. The design is arranged in the same way as the manual one. Works on the same principle. The only difference is that you do not need to make physical efforts to grind food:

  1. The body of the meat grinder is connected to the gearbox. It is inserted into the groove of the cover, turned counterclockwise to fix it.
  2. Further, the screw shaft is installed in the main part so that the protrusion of the shank falls into the hole of the output shaft.
  3. After they put the grate and knife, all this is fixed with a clamping nut. First a knife (blade out), then a grill, and at the end a nut.
  4. Then install the loading bowl in the neck of the housing. Now the electric meat grinder can work.

The engine of an electrical device replaces human effort. All that is needed is to plug the device into the network and push the meat into the tube. Among the design features - sometimes a meat receiver is attached to the body of models from different manufacturers, and sometimes it is already built-in. The auger knife is held by a grooved rod. Comes complete with a household appliance and a pusher, the main function of which is to move the meat into the mechanism. An electric meat grinder, unlike a manual device, is installed where it is convenient - it does not need to be fixed.

The assembly sequence of the electrical appliance

Assembling the device is one step, but it still needs to be disassembled and washed after work. To do this correctly, first start with a removable meat receiver. It is removed from the housing, unscrew the clamping nut. You can do this with a napkin or towel. After that, the grill and knife are removed, the screw holding the handle is unscrewed, and it is removed. Lastly, the screw shaft is taken out. Meat grinder equipment

New models of meat grinders may well replace the food processor. In our opinion, meat grinders are even more functional. When you need to chop a lot of lettuce, the combine is good for this. Since only 200 grams of cabbage can get stuck in its bowl, and the rest will go as intended. And if you need one serving, then a meat grinder is preferable.

In the course of work, such knives self-sharpen. And the sharper the knife, the, respectively, and the device works much faster.

It is also important what shape the knife is. If it has a curved blade, it will protect the equipment, namely its screw shaft, from damage, easily cutting all the veins and fibers. In addition, this allows less disassembly of the device for cleaning.

Tray connected to the neck of the meat grinder

Also, to facilitate the use of the meat grinder, it is equipped with a tray (tray) and an electric pusher. Thanks to the capacious tray (made of plastic or metal), a large amount of food can be placed in it. The size of the tray depends directly on the performance and power of the meat grinder.
