Today, gas boilers require a permanent connection to operate. electrical network, which applies to a greater extent to devices equipped various kinds automatic systems. And if there are power outages, this can not only stop the operation of the boiler, but also cause equipment damage. As you know, power outages are usually short-term - they can last from 5 minutes to 2 days.

And in order to maintain the heating system in full operation during this time, it is advisable to use a UPS for gas boilers (we are talking about uninterruptible power supplies). This device not only protects the heating device during power failures, but also minimizes negative impact sudden surges in voltage.

Features of choosing an uninterruptible power supply for gas equipment

As noted above, the main function of a UPS is to provide a constant power supply for a gas boiler or any other equipment during power outages or power surges. In this case, the operation switches to the batteries automatically, so that the heater will actually work continuously.

Voltage stabilizers for gas boilers

Previously, we talked about prices, design features and technical specifications voltage stabilizers for boilers. In addition to this article, we advise you to read

And the first thing you should pay attention to when choosing a UPS for gas boilers is the charging power and reliability. What are the other criteria for choosing an uninterruptible power supply? Now we will get acquainted with them.

  • First of all, this is the capacity and quantity batteries, which is measured in ampere hours. This indicator depends on how long it takes to support the system’s power supply in standalone mode.
  • Technical characteristics specified in the gas boiler passport, which also take into account starting currents.
  • So that the uninterruptible power supply can work long time(from several hours to several tens), you need to choose a model that provides for connecting external batteries. Such devices differ from conventional ones in that their design does not include internal batteries, as well as the presence of a high-power charger. In this case, batteries of the required power are connected to the UPS (calculation is carried out for long-term operation).
  • The power of the circulation pumps is also important (in this case, starting currents are also taken into account), multiplied by two and a half. These parameters can be found in the data sheet. By the way, as an experiment on calculating starting currents showed, a pump with a power of 130 W increases its (power) by exactly 2?, hence the above figures.
  • Finally, it is best to use “online” uninterruptible power supplies (even if they are more expensive), that is, devices with double conversion. Their main advantage is that the output voltage sinusoid is correct.

Note! As for household boilers, in most cases their power ranges from 50 to 500 watts, and this, in turn, is proportional to the range from 70 to 600 ampere-volts.

Power surges in the network are also very important. And if you know exactly the magnitude of these jumps, then, based on it, you can determine the voltage range at the input. The service life of the batteries directly depends on the frequency of switching on the “autonomy” in the uninterruptible power supply. So, the longer this range, the better for the battery. Therefore, experts recommend avoiding completely discharging batteries, as this will save their capacity and, as a result, the duration of the autonomous operation cycle.

How to calculate backup time?

The time limits during which the gas boiler will continue to be operational are the most important criterion and, in fact, the main purpose for which the UPS itself is installed. To calculate this extremely accurately, there are special tables, but we will focus on approximate calculations, which provide for a deviation of half an hour in one direction or another. The fact is that using such a table is much easier.

Be sure to take note! Boilers with a heat capacity of less than 25 kilowatts often have only one circulation pump. Consequently, with the simplest electronics, this boiler will consume an average of 100-150 watts. And if we add to this the reserve mentioned above, then the power of the UPS for gas boilers should be on average 300 watts.

From the table it becomes clear that for heating device with a power of 150 watts, a 150 ampere/hour battery is required to ensure uninterrupted operation for ten hours. And this, as you yourself understand, is by no means a small, but quite powerful battery.

Gas boilers Protherm

Previously, we talked about the Protherm brand of boilers, together with experts we found out their advantages and did a review model range. In addition to this article, we advise you to read

Advantages and design features of the UPS

From a design point of view, this device consists of two elements:

  • battery;
  • current stabilizer.

In addition, the design can contain one or several batteries. Among the many advantages of an uninterruptible power supply, we highlight the following.

  • It is easy to install and connect. This can be done on your own without involving professionals.
  • The device operates absolutely silently.
  • The output voltage parameters are stable all the time.
  • There is no need for permanent maintenance. Moreover, the operating costs are minimal - except that you have to change the battery every few years.
  • Finally, this includes the long service life of the uninterruptible power supply itself. As a result, the life of the gas boiler increases.

Note! It is recommended to install the UPS in places that are well protected from moisture (more specifically, this is a sealed cabinet designed for this purpose, which is located as close as possible to the ventilation shaft). Thanks to this arrangement, the device will be reliably protected from condensed moisture, moreover, it will be partially cooled.

Connecting an external power source

How does uninterruptible power supply work?

After the device is connected to the network via a UPS, the boiler begins to function in parallel with the charger. In this case, the frequency of the current is equalized by a stabilizer, due to which the device is reliably protected from various types of voltage surges. And if the power is turned off, the entire load will be immediately transferred to the internal battery automatically. At the same time, there are several parameters on which the duration of the energy-dependent operation of an uninterruptible power supply depends. This:

  • power consumed by the gas boiler;
  • number of batteries, as well as the capacity of each of them.

The filter of the device (and it is built in additionally) allows you to obtain accurate parameters regarding the value of the supply voltage, as well as the frequency of the electric current over a wide range, if there is no connection to the battery.

What are the sources of BP?

There are several classifications according to which UPSs are divided into certain groups. As for the installation method, from this point of view, UPS for gas boilers can be of two types.

  • Devices floor type . As the name suggests, such uninterruptible power supplies are installed on the floor. They are very powerful and can provide a significant power load (if the operation is industrial in nature, then it is advisable to use block devices that are combined to amplify the power).
  • Wall-mounted devices- These are compact UPSs, characterized by low power and used primarily for domestic purposes. Batteries in in this case low-power, although there are such modern models, to which you can connect a portable battery (the latter is placed separately).

We figured out the installation methods. Now let's see what uninterruptible power supplies are from the technical device point of view.

  1. Linear interactive devices. Their distinctive feature is a simple stabilizer. In most cases, such devices can easily ensure 20-minute operation of a gas boiler, and if this is used external element power supply, the duration of work can increase to ten hours.
  2. Backup devices (so-called “off-line”). Quite primitive power supplies, the design of which is devoid of such an element as a stabilizer; exactly because of this reason similar devices can be used exclusively in those networks where the parameters are stable. They are characterized by small dimensions, low cost (which is good news) and light weight.
  3. Finally, double conversion devices (or so-called “online”). They are, in fact, backup autonomous power supply systems. They have a high-precision built-in current stabilizer, the power of which is often quite large. As for the principle of operation, in this case it is approximately the following: the incoming voltage is sequentially converted twice - first, the current in the rectifier is converted from constant to alternating, after which a special inverter converts it back. In addition, “online” UPSs have another unique opportunity: they are able to instantly “transfer” power to batteries. Therefore, it is quite obvious that for such numerous technical advantages you have to pay a lot of money - the cost of such an uninterruptible power supply is twice as high as the analogues mentioned above (we will talk about the cost in more detail a little later).

How to make a UPS for a boiler with your own hands - cheap and cheerful!

A “store-bought” UPS is, of course, excellent, but there is also a cheaper alternative. It will not look so presentable, and, alas, it will not have a number of useful functions, but in general outline it will turn out pretty good.

Note! To be fair, let's start with the disadvantages: in this case you will need to pay less, but for the inconvenience. First of all, the system will be completely manual - there will be no automation at all. If the power supply stops, then you need to go and connect the uninterruptible power supply to the boiler manually.

There are a number of safety standards associated with this manual switching. So, between stopping the current supply and turning on the UPS, do not forget to turn off the main switch - although, in fact, this may not be done if the device is not permanently connected to the network. In this case, the cord is simply removed from the outlet and connected to a homemade uninterruptible power supply. Besides, with everything necessary equipment you will have to figure it out on your own, although it is not so difficult if you follow the recommendations below to solve this problem.

So, to make a UPS you will need the following things.

Now we proceed to the actual assembly of the UPS for gas boilers. According to tradition, there is nothing difficult in this process - everything is elementary simple. Find the positive and negative terminals on the inverter, connect them to similar terminals on the battery using a powerful cable with a cross-section equal to four squares. Actually, the assembly procedure ends here - now all that remains is to connect the plug from the gas boiler to the outlet on the inverter, press the power button on the latter - the process will begin! The battery will gradually discharge and as soon as it is completely depleted, or the power supply is restored, it needs to be connected to a charger in order to replenish the costs.

Note! You may be wondering: isn’t it easier to buy a ready-made uninterruptible power supply? Yes, but this option is several times cheaper, and it allows you to create a larger energy reserve.

As a result, we note that in the event of a permanent power outage, the UPS for gas boilers is a great assistant, it can be considered as an integral component of the backup energy supply concept. It is convenient and effective, and you have seen it for yourself.

What should a UPS be like for gas boilers and have perfect protection against poor-quality electrical networks? When is it profitable to use a UPS for heating boilers? Imagine what it feels like to know that the heating in your home will work without interruption, and poor-quality electrical voltage will not harm your heating boiler, which will keep your home warm on long winter evenings.

UPS on line for boilers

An uninterruptible power supply for a gas boiler should not care what the input voltage is; it always produces voltage at the output without distortion thanks to On Line technology. An online UPS for a boiler stabilizes the power grid from interference and surges, and double conversion technology ensures continuous power. An online UPS for gas boilers will provide protection for heating equipment and comfort in use.

It is advantageous to use a UPS for gas boilers when you want to connect only a heating system and, for example, several household appliances. With this configuration, time battery life UPS for heating boiler can reach several days. The stabilizer will only protect against power surges, but will not be able to provide continuous power to the boiler. The generator is not always convenient, even if it is fully automated, at least in that it needs to be filled with fuel, which emits an odor and creates dirt, it can make noise and vibrate. And if you have important things to do, you need to take care of who will monitor the generator.

The online UPS for the boiler previously listed has no problems; you can install it in the house and forget about it until the battery life expires. Rechargeable batteries are sealed and maintenance-free, they do not contain any fumes, are fireproof, and can be installed in residential premises. Work in any position. Do not confuse with automobile ones.

Design and principle of operation

Connection diagram

The UPS for a gas boiler consists of two main modules:

  • Current stabilizer;
  • Rechargeable battery.

The task of the stabilizer is to equalize the voltage, eliminating even the slightest fluctuations. Simultaneously with the automation, the stabilizer also protects the battery during charging.

The number of batteries may vary: the operating time of the boiler in autonomous mode depends on this.

Types of UPS

Uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers differ in their operating principle and installation method.

According to the operating principle

  • Offline UPS: the simplest and cheapest device without a stabilizer. It works as follows: as soon as the voltage in the network deviates from acceptable values– the uninterruptible power supply for the gas boiler switches to the battery. When the parameters of the power supply network are normalized, it automatically switches to it. Switching occurs within 10-15 ms;
  • Line-interactive uninterruptible power supplies: average in level and cost. They differ from offline models by the presence of a voltage stabilizer;
  • UPS online: at the moment these are the most advanced models that can even work with generator sets. This property is especially important for users whose homes are provided with autonomous power supply (from mini-power plants). In online uninterruptible power supplies for boilers, input AC voltage whatever its quality, it is transformed into a constant, and then into a stabilized variable.

By installation method

According to the installation method, uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers are divided into two groups:

  • wall-mounted: small UPS with a low-capacity battery. Some wall models can be connected to a remote battery installed separately;
  • floor-standing: powerful uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers, designed for heavy loads and a long period autonomous work.

Various installation methods

Criterias of choice

The determining parameters when choosing are:

  • The total power consumption of the equipment that you are going to protect from voltage surges;
  • Duration of autonomous operation of equipment.

Power

The power of the equipment is indicated in the passport or instructions; the main thing here is to decide what, in fact, you are going to protect. In addition to a gas boiler, you can connect via a UPS circulation pumps, alarm and other installations that ensure the functioning of your home.

Watch the video, criteria for choosing a device:

But in this case, it must be taken into account that at the moment the motor starts, the current consumption increases several times. Most UPS models for gas boilers tolerate short-term overload normally, but it doesn’t hurt to play it safe and take a model with a 30% power reserve.

Battery life

The time period during which the uninterruptible power supply will provide autonomous power to electrical equipment depends only on the battery capacity. Typically, the manufacturer indicates the autonomy time in technical documentation. But in practice, this indicator is somewhat different from the declared one due to the discharge depth coefficient and the efficiency of the converter. The battery capacity required for a particular case can be calculated using the formula:

C = (T x P)/(8.65 x N), where

T – the autonomy time you need (it depends on the degree of stability of the power supply in your home) – in hours;

P – the total power consumption of the equipment that you plan to protect from voltage surges – in watts;

N – the number of batteries equipped with the UPS model you have chosen;

8.65 – constant (constant value).

After making a simple calculation, you will be convinced that it is suitable for your purpose. this model UPS or not.

Some subtleties

Nobody produces uninterruptible power supplies specifically for gas boilers. They simply produce many models that differ in characteristics - switching time, output voltage shape, battery charging current. When choosing a UPS, you should pay close attention to these parameters:

  • The switching time to “autonomy” should be “0”. If that indicator differs from zero, it means that you have a linear-interactive uninterruptible power supply for a gas boiler, which is unsuitable for working with precision electronics;
  • The output voltage shape must be sinusoidal (depending on the translation, the technical documentation may indicate “sine” or “pure sine”). If the manufacturer wrote “quasi-sine” or “approximated sine wave” - this is a UPS designed to protect computer equipment, televisions or fire alarm. It is not suitable for protecting the boiler;
  • Battery charge current - the passport should indicate “4, 6, 8.10 A”. If there is no such data in the documentation, then in offline mode the model will work from 5 to 15 minutes.

One more point is important when choosing a UPS: availability service center in your region. Otherwise, if the UPS breaks down, you will have to send it somewhere, and then wait a long time for its return. Meanwhile, your boiler will be deprived of protection.

Popular models

In Russia, the following models are considered uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers:

INELT Monolith K 1000 LT

Monolith K 1000 LT

Monolith K 1000 LT – on-line UPS. Voltage conversion is double. Provides long battery life for equipment. Depending on the battery capacity, the model can support the operation of the boiler for up to 15 hours.

The Monolith K 1000 LT does not have built-in batteries; it is equipped with a high-power charger. It can be connected to a battery with a capacity of up to 150 Ah. The price of an uninterruptible system for a gas boiler is about 17.5 thousand rubles.

This model with double conversion, single-phase input and output is designed for equipment power of 1 kVA. Output voltage is 220 V. The UPS does not include a battery: it is designed for external connection of batteries of the capacity required by the user.

Models CALM VoltGuarg

The device is equipped with protection against short circuit and battery discharge. You can buy a UPS for a VoltGuarg HT1101L gas boiler for 18,400 rubles.

Bastion SKAT-UPS 1000 isp. T

SKAT-UPS 1000 isp. T is used to provide uninterrupted power supply to units of individual heating systems, automatic boiler equipment and other devices for which even an instant loss of power is unacceptable.

With a load of 700 VA, the SKAT-UPS 1000 isp. T can provide an autonomy time of just over nine hours (when connecting three 200 Ah batteries).

What users say

Users of gas boilers unanimously say: a UPS is definitely needed to protect it. Moreover, many of them prefer devices domestic production. They have a body made of good steel, and all the information is in the vernacular. Dissatisfaction is caused by the excessive noise of UPS systems with coolers.

Watch the video about the SKAT-UPS 1000 model:

Some craftsmen replace the “native” fan with a silent one. Another disadvantage is that a UPS with a fan collects dust. But if the cooler in the model works constantly, even when the boiler is running from the mains, it can be placed in a closed box - and the problem will be solved.

Most modern heating boilers offered on Russian market are energy dependent. The compact size of the boiler and savings in operation are attracting more and more consumers. When installing such a boiler, you should immediately think about uninterrupted power supply to the boiler. Many people miss this point. But none of us are immune from electrical emergencies. Electricity may be turned off for a long time, and hence the power supply to the boiler. Which in winter can lead to complete defrosting of the boiler heating circuit. The costs of restoring the entire system and boiler are enormous. We recommend that you think in advance about uninterrupted power supply to the gas boiler by installing special UPS for boilers .
There are two types of UPS for the boiler:

Uninterruptible power supply for backup boilers

If there is an electrical network in a certain voltage range (the range may change depending on the manufacturer), it works directly from the network. In this mode, the shape of the output signal completely matches the input one. When the voltage goes beyond the specified range or there is a power outage, it switches to battery operation mode, continuing to provide power to the boiler. Continuing to monitor the appearance of electricity. In this mode, the boiler is supplied with a voltage of 220 volts with a pure sinusoidal signal (the signal shape may be different, depending on the manufacturer and characteristics). The process of converting 12 volt direct voltage from the battery into 220 volt alternating voltage required for the boiler is underway. If the battery voltage reaches the minimum critical discharge level, the UPS for the boiler is turned off. This saves battery life. When the power supply appears, it switches to direct mode, simultaneously charging the battery to 100% condition. Therefore, this mode is called backup; if there is an electrical network, it is in reserve (reserve). And it comes into operation only when the level is absent or goes beyond the operating limits.

Interactive UPS

They are also called online, always on. In general terms, such an uninterruptible power supply can also be called a stabilizer. Since even in the presence of a network, the alternating signal is converted into direct voltage. The second stage occurs inverse conversion DC voltage to AC 220 volts with pure sine output, ideal for a boiler. If the input power supply fails, it operates from the battery. The input operating range of such uninterruptible power supplies is much wider. Capable of smoothing out voltage surges and dips. Removing various types of network interference by constructing its own 220 volt sinusoidal output signal, optimal for any boiler. They cost a little more, but the number of functions and protections they provide justify the cost.

Most private houses are equipped modern system heating, including energy-dependent boilers, elements for circulating the system. But the state of our electrical networks, weather cannot provide a stable power supply to the boiler. Take care in advance by installing uninterrupted power supply to the boiler along with the circulation system. Installation uninterrupted system power supply will protect you from problems with the heating system in winter. When the boiler stops, it can lead to financial costs to restore the entire system. All that remains is to choose the right UPS for the boiler with battery. Let's look at a few key points to make the right choice.

Choosing the right UPS

The first step is to understand what a UPS is. The full name is uninterruptible power supply. Some people confuse this name with an inverter. It is not right. An inverter, as the name suggests, inverts voltages. In our case, it converts direct voltage from the battery into alternating voltage 220V, frequency 50Hz. Depending on the manufacturer, the output waveform can be a pure sine wave (sine waveform) or an approximate one (approximated sine waveform). And this is its entire function. And the uninterruptible power supply includes an inverter function, a function for monitoring the network and battery charging, a function for switching to the battery in the event of a power failure, and a return function when the network appears. Therefore, it is called an uninterruptible power supply that provides uninterrupted power supply, fully automatically.

Main characteristics for the right choice

  • We determine the voltage of the home network where the boiler is planned to be installed. It is enough to measure the voltage with a multimeter in the morning and evening. Why do we relate this to important characteristics? Because UPSs for offline boilers operate within a certain range allowed by Russian GOST. The limits of this range are 190-245 volts. Out of range many sources autonomous power supply automatically switch to battery operation mode, even when there is an electrical outlet. The battery capacity is designed for a short period of time. If your mains voltage is outside the range, then you need to install a voltage stabilizer in front of the power source for the boiler. Required power small. Approximately 500 - 1000VA is quite enough. The second option for solving the voltage problem is to install a UPS for an online type boiler. Such autonomous power supplies have a wider range of operation from the input power supply. The range is 150-260 volts, and some models have 100-300 volts. By installing such sources, the consumer receives additional bonus– built-in frequency interference filter. Naturally, such autonomous power sources cost more. The decision is made by the consumer himself according to his capabilities. The cost of such an uninterruptible power supply may even exceed the cost of an offline UPS set plus an inexpensive voltage stabilizer. When you buy a set of UPS 300 plus a 100Ah battery in our store, you receive a voltage stabilizer as a gift, without any additional conditions.
  • The next main property is the shape of the output signal. There are a lot various types uninterruptible power supplies. For example, an uninterruptible power supply for a computer has rectangular shape output signal. This form is absolutely not suitable for pumps in a heating system. The pumps begin to work intermittently and hum. The service life is immediately reduced significantly. Reliable performance The entire heating system, including pumps, is only possible with a pure sinusoidal output signal after an uninterrupted unit. Do not listen to sellers who start offering an approximate sine (approximate). Although this signal shape is almost similar to a real sine wave, the boiler and pump still operate intermittently. Interruptions or false alarms of the boiler control board occur. Only a pure sinusoidal signal at the output of an uninterruptible power supply will ensure uninterrupted operation of the boiler and your heating system generally.
  • The last step is to determine the battery life for the boiler. Everything is much simpler here. The time depends on the power consumption of your boiler ( standard option boiler with one pump does not exceed 100-150W) and battery capacity. But there is a pitfall here. There is no need to immediately rush out and buy a battery for an uninterruptible power supply with maximum capacity. First you need to study the characteristics of the uninterruptible power supply. The manufacturer indicates in the characteristics table the maximum permissible power of the battery and its type. If the table indicates a battery capacity of no more than 150A/h, then you can install any battery up to 150A/h. What happens if you install it anyway? more power on a UPS for the boiler? The battery will not receive a full charge. If you decide to purchase a simple car battery, then you need a full discharge cycle a couple of times a month. In simple terms, train the battery. Why? Car batteries are designed to be charged and discharged daily. If the battery sits for a long time without work, then it begins to deteriorate. If you don’t have time for this, then we recommend special batteries for an uninterruptible power supply. Here the principle is the opposite. It is enough for such batteries to carry out a training cycle two to three times a year. The service life of such batteries is very long, about 5-15 years, depending on the modification. By purchasing a complete set of UPS + battery for a boiler, you get a 10% discount on any battery for an uninterruptible unit.

Uninterruptible power supplies for boilers are equipment consisting of the inverter itself, a battery or a group of batteries. In the event of an emergency power outage, the UPS transforms the 12-volt voltage into 220 V. In the event of a long power outage, the uninterruptible power supply for the heating boiler will supply current to the equipment for as long as the resource (capacity) of its battery allows.

Profitability of using UPS

As a rule, the equipment of gas boilers, as well as diesel and solid fuel ones, consumes little electricity. Therefore, using a UPS during a power outage is more profitable than using diesel or gasoline generators. In addition, uninterruptible power supplies for boilers have the following advantages:

  • easy to install and connect,
  • work silently
  • do not require operating costs,
  • require a minimum Maintenance(battery replacement).

Why does the boiler need a special UPS?

The purchase of special UPSs for heating boilers is necessary due to the complexity of this equipment. The uninterruptible power supply in this case must provide an output voltage in the form of a sine wave ( this characteristic indicated in the device description). So, UPS for computers, for example, produce a square wave at the output. For a heating system this can be a big problem, since this type of voltage will cause Negative influence for circulation pumps. As a result, they may not start or will hum and operate jerkily, which will shorten the service life of the equipment. In addition, the UPS for household appliances can provide power to equipment for 10–15 minutes. This time is enough for you to complete all programs, but it is not enough for the boiler.

Our range

You can buy a UPS for solid fuel and gas boilers in this section of the site. We offer devices from the Russian company Energia. This company occupies a leading position in the production of electrical equipment and produces reliable UPSs with a long service life. Depending on the battery capacity and load power, they can provide 1–24 hours of autonomous power supply to the boiler. Our catalog includes:

inverters, stabilizing mains voltage and converting voltage from direct (12, 24, 48 V) to alternating from an external source (for example, a battery).

UPS with external batteries. Full assembly uninterruptible power supply for a heating boiler is an automated kit that includes an inverter, Charger, control unit and battery. Such equipment is capable of not only operating during a power outage, but also stabilizing the voltage in the network. UPSs with an external battery can maintain the operation of heating equipment much longer. The purchase of uninterruptible power supplies for a gas boiler is justified in case of frequent power outages, as well as the constant need for hot water(for example, in a home with small children).

Classification of inverters

By type of work

  • Online. In such uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers, alternating voltage is transformed into direct voltage, and then vice versa, so that the output is a clean and stable sinusoid. Such UPSs are characterized by a short switching time to the battery and high standard voltage. Uninterruptible power supplies of this type are the most expensive. But they also have disadvantages. Thus, due to the constant use of the device on the battery, its service life is reduced. The capacity of the built-in battery is also limited by the dimensions of the device body.
  • Line-Interactive. Such UPSs for gas boilers have an autotransformer that provides regulation of the input voltage over a wide range. Line-interactive uninterruptible power supplies are mid-priced and optimally suited for use in living conditions. Our catalog mainly presents UPS models of this type. Their advantages include the possibility of increasing battery life by adding additional batteries to the circuit. The batteries of the devices are charged automatically, which ensures that they are fully operational in the event of an unexpected power outage.
  • Offline. Such uninterruptible power supplies are the simplest and cheapest. They do not have a built-in stabilizer and switch to the battery as soon as the mains voltage deviates from the specified values. In addition to this disadvantage, such UPSs also exhibit a relatively high delay in relay switching.

By installation method

  • Wall-mounted. Such UPSs have small size The design of uninterruptible power supplies allows you to connect to them an external battery installed separately.
  • Floor-standing. Such uninterruptible power supplies for gas boilers can be low-power or powerful. In both cases, the battery life depends on the capacity of the batteries connected to them. Such UPSs are designed for any load within the limits of their power and can maintain the operation of the heating system for a long time.

UPS selection criteria

Power. This parameter can be determined by adding up the power of all devices that will be powered by an uninterruptible power supply. This is the gas boiler itself, circulation pumps, etc. It should be taken into account that at the moment of starting the equipment, current consumption can increase several times. To calculate what power a suitable UPS for gas boilers should have, you need to multiply the power of each pump by three and add the resulting values.

Battery life. This indicator determines the period during which the uninterruptible power supply for the boiler will ensure the operation of electrical equipment. If there is a generator, a UPS for gas boilers must keep the equipment running until it starts. Battery life is determined by battery capacity. This parameter is indicated in the technical documentation. But in some cases it may differ from the declared one due to the depth of discharge coefficient and the efficiency of the converter. You can perform a simple calculation to determine whether an uninterruptible power supply is suitable for your gas boiler or not, using the following formula:

C = (T x P)/(8.65 x N),

  • C – battery capacity;
  • T - required time battery life, measured in hours;
  • P – the total power consumed by the equipment connected to the UPS, measured in watts;
  • N – the number of batteries that are included in the system of the uninterruptible power supply you have chosen;
  • 8.65 – constant (constant value).
