Assembling a snow blower

First of all, you need to take care of a strong mount for the chainsaw motor. To avoid distortions and uneven snow scooping, the motor must be placed strictly in the center of the device. A subsequent modification of the engine is an addition in the form of a gas tank. For convenience, it is attached to the steering support. This can be done using bolted connection. You can also take the throttle handle with a cable from the motorcycle, this will ensure unhindered control of the engine throttle.

In order for the snow blower to gain its functionality, it is necessary to weld the frame. To do this, we do not need to look for complex drawings, because the design is very simple and does not require much effort for its assembly.

To create a bucket, you will need square pipes measuring 20x20x1.7 millimeters. A frame is assembled from them, which will later be covered with galvanized steel, which will protect the bucket from rusting and rotting.

The thickness of the steel here should not be less than five millimeters, otherwise it will be too susceptible to mechanical influences. The sheets are attached to the frame using simple aluminum rivets.

For ease of control, a metal plate should be welded to the bucket structure. It will ensure unhindered movement of the bucket through the snow. The dimensions of such a plate should not exceed 60 centimeters in width and 4 in length. In this case, the plate can be covered with polyethylene. This will prevent snow from sticking to the plate.

The most important element in the design of a snow blower is its shaft. Its design consists of a pipe with welded screws. When designing the shaft we will need:

  • steel pipe with a cross section of ½;
  • a driven star that needs to be welded to the pipe;
  • bearings in the amount of two units, which are mounted inside the screw pipe;
  • rotor wing;
  • a pair of rotor blades;
  • screws for creating a shaft;
  • blade wings;
  • support corners in the amount of two units.


The shaft design involves a rotor with parallel welded screws facing in different directions. First you need to take steel pipe with parameters 22x2 millimeters, and a length of 570 millimeters. Bearings must be placed at the ends of this pipe. To do this, weld the trunnion onto the end of the pipe and then install the bearings there. Bearing parameters: sizes 40/16/16, s closed type designs.

A further design involves installing an additional star in the center of the shaft. With its help, torque from the motor will be transmitted to the shaft. Connecting these 2 elements will be a chain that can be taken from an old Soviet motorcycle.

The central star in its structure should have 33 teeth with a pitch of 12.7, and 4 M6 bolts will help secure it. To avoid unwanted external influences, it is advisable to hide the chain and the system itself behind the snow blower body. After installing the star and bearings, the blades that will scoop snow begin to be welded to the shaft. This requires 12 steel strips, 6 strips on each side of the shaft.


The screw can be manufactured in two versions. The first is to create a one-piece structure (like an ice drill); it can be ordered from a factory or from craftsmen, or you can create it yourself. But the simplest option would be to cut the steel into “horseshoes”. This will make it easier to attach the auger to the pipe. And the design will not differ in strength from its professional counterpart. To improve the performance of the snow blower, the auger blades must have teeth.

They can be cut using a grinder. Now we attach the blades to the wings. This can be done with M6 bolts. But it is worth remembering that each bolt is subject to unwinding during operation, so it is better to rivet the ends of the bolted connection.

The made rotor must have 2 duralumin blades, which are made of two-millimeter steel. They can be replaced with blades made from of stainless steel, then the mechanism will be more durable.

The blades must be installed symmetrically. This will ensure uninterrupted operation during snow removal, and will also protect the blades from mechanical damage. After installation, the structure should be symmetrical and balanced.

To connect the gearbox to the transmission sprocket, it is necessary to replace the gearbox drive sprocket during engine modification with a 17-tooth one, with a pitch of 12.7. The star is installed on the cardan shaft, at the end of the second bend.


When constructing a wheelbase, it should be taken into account that its design must have an axle with two bearings, on which the rollers will be installed in the future. Or you can use trunnions. To do this, they are welded onto the ends of the pipe. Now you can use wheels with built-in bearings. This method will be easier, since repairing and replacing wheels will take much less time. The wheels and axles are fastened with M10 bolts.

IN last resort the snow guide should be addressed. To do this, a sleeve should be welded to the bucket, along which the collected snow will be sent out.

Important: the sleeve diameter should not be too small, and also have complex bends. Otherwise, in this case, snow will constantly clog it, which will complicate work on the street.

They need to be placed on the shaft so that all 4 parts are directed to the central part of the auger. To increase the efficiency of the device, the blades should be serrated, cut using a grinder.

Snow blower body

The body is made of round sidewalls that exceed the dimensions of the auger by approximately 70 mm. A metal sheet 1 mm thick is welded to them, which must first be bent into a semicircle. Connecting all the parts

  5. The finished auger must be installed on bearings of the appropriate diameter.
  6. All moving parts should be located under removable elements, which will make it easier to clean the mechanisms after finishing work.
  7. The main, driving auger and motor are electric, so to protect them, the rotor must rotate in sealed bearings.
  8. The blades must be installed in the pipe hole, and the auger in the box. Now they are connected by an asterisk, which can be removed from the bicycle
  9. Now you need to connect the resulting device to a gasoline saw. When carrying out this operation, you cannot rush - you need to correctly calculate the gaps.
  10. The main frame is being welded. An electric motor is installed on it using channels and bolts and connected by a chain to the auger sprocket. Then strengthened on the base gasoline saw. To connect the gearbox and transmission sprocket during engine improvement, it will be necessary to replace the gearbox drive sprocket with a 17-tooth design in a pitch of 12.7. It is placed on the cardan shaft at the end of the second bend. When working with a wheelbase, you need to take into account that it must have an axle with a pair of bearings; rollers or axles are placed on them. They are welded onto the ends of pipes.

The wheels can be equipped with built-in bearings, in which case replacing or repairing them is much easier and faster. The axle and wheels are secured using M10 bolts.

The final touch to assembling the machine is installing the snow guide. A sleeve is welded to the bucket; after assembly, the snow will come out through it. If your snow blower engine is rated at 7 horsepower or less, it may fail during heavy snowfalls.
