Water-based paint is a product that is simply ideal for painting ceilings. It is not too expensive, but looks very neat. However, of course, the surface will look impressive only if the required technologies processing. Further in the article we will look at how to paint a ceiling without streaks.

Causes of spots

After this paint has dried, the ceiling often shows various kinds defects. First of all, these are spots that are clearly visible from different angles or when using various sources lighting. Unfortunately, such a defect is considered difficult to eliminate. The fact is that when painting over stains, the unevenness of the coating usually only intensifies, which aggravates the situation. Therefore, when such defects appear, the work on finishing the ceiling most often has to be done again. In order to avoid such a problem, you should first carry out proper preparation to coloring.

How to choose a roller

So let's see water-based paint no divorces. And first, let's figure out how to choose the right tool to perform this operation. You can carefully paint the ceiling only using a roller. The brush will definitely leave streaks and small stains. For water-based paint, a long-nap roller is most suitable. With this tool you can apply the composition as evenly as possible. Foam and velor rollers in in this case They are absolutely not suitable, as they may leave unsightly “pores” on the surface.

How to mix paint correctly

Thin products such as water-based paints for interior works, follow only the instructions provided on the label. In most cases, no more than 10% water can be added to this type of paint. Otherwise, the composition will turn out to be very liquid, and it will not be possible to paint the ceilings. Water can be poured directly into the paint can. Add it little by little, constantly stirring the composition. To perform the last operation, it is best to use an electric drill with a special attachment.

How to tint paint correctly

Traditionally, ceilings are treated with white water-based emulsion. However, coatings with a light tint also look very impressive: pink, blue, green. Those who want to decorate the ceiling in this way should definitely first familiarize themselves with the rules for tinting water-based emulsion. They are as follows:

    The paint shade should be selected in the light that will be used most often in the room. In this case, it is worth using a special tinting card.

    The selected color should be added immediately to the entire volume of paint needed to decorate the ceilings in the apartment. Otherwise, the surface will definitely turn out spotty.

    Stir the color in the paint only with a drill and for quite a long time - at least 10 minutes.

How to apply paint to a roller

We’ll look at how to properly apply water-based emulsion to the ceiling below. Now let's figure out what the technology is for applying the composition to the roller itself. Of course, in order for the ceiling to turn out neat, this procedure must be performed correctly. The roller must be completely covered with paint. However, of course, you shouldn’t dip it entirely into the bucket. Applying paint correctly to this instrument is very easy. The roller should be lightly dipped in paint and rolled out onto some hard surface. This could be, for example, a piece of plywood, linoleum or plastic. If necessary, the rolling procedure can be repeated twice.

Sometimes experienced painters do things differently. In this case, a little paint is simply poured into the tray. Next, the roller is periodically rolled over a surface specially created for this purpose during the ceiling treatment process.

How to avoid divorces and correctly

Of course, there is a certain technology for applying the composition to the surface. The roller itself should be quite wide. This will allow the work to be done not only efficiently, but also quickly. You can finish the ceiling from a stepladder or from a high table.

Actually, the answer to the question of how to paint a ceiling with a roller is simple. The basic rules for performing this procedure look like this:

    First of all, the perimeter of the room is painted with a strip approximately 10 cm wide. To perform this procedure, it is best to use an appropriate brush.

    Rub the paint over the surface with a roller as thoroughly as possible. When painting, you need to ensure that no drops remain on the ceiling.

    During processing, you should get off the stepladder from time to time and inspect the surface underneath. different angles. This way you can achieve the most uniform coloring possible.

Water-based paints for interior work are usually applied in at least two layers. In this case, before painting the surface a second time, wait until the ceiling has completely dried. The water emulsion dries quite quickly. The layers should be applied so that the first is perpendicular to the second. In this case, you will get a more uniform design. Painting should be done so that the second layer is done in the direction of the light rays from the window.

What else you need to know

Water-based paint is an excellent answer to the question of how to paint the ceiling in a room. However, in order to get the most neat surface possible, among other things, you should follow these rules:

    You only need to buy new paint. The old one may have a heterogeneous consistency.

    Before you start painting, you should check the roller. The fibers of this tool should under no circumstances lag behind.

    Before painting, seams and unevenness on the ceiling should be eliminated, and its surface itself should be primed.

Paint price

Of course, many apartment owners are also concerned about how much it costs to paint the ceiling with water-based emulsion. The price for this product is really very low. So, for example, a 3-liter jar costs about 150-170 rubles. This amount is enough to treat ceilings of about 30 m2 in one layer. On standard two-room Khrushchev apartment, thus, you will need no more than 2 three-liter cans or 300-400 rubles.

So, we found out how to paint the ceiling with water-based paint without streaks. As you can see, this procedure is relatively simple. The main thing is to produce it correctly preparatory work, choose good tool and do not violate the technology of applying the composition to the surface.

Repairing the ceiling, or rather painting it, is enough labor-intensive process. After all, it is not so easy to paint the entire surface perfectly and evenly, so that there are no stains or various irregularities on it. And sometimes you really want to make something beautiful and flat ceiling independently, without resorting to the help of professionals.

But it’s not all bad, you just need to know the dyeing technology. In addition, this matter cannot be done without special tools And suitable paint. But everything is in order. So, let's figure out how to paint the ceiling evenly and without streaks.

Secrets of painting the ceiling without streaks, streaks and unevenness

In order to perfectly and evenly paint the surface without streaks, stripes, spots and unevenness, you need to know some nuances. But first you need to thoroughly prepare the room in which the painting will be done. And also choose paint.

High-quality painting with water-based paint - how to do it

So, before you start painting the ceiling, you should deal with coloring material. What should it be and what should you pay attention to when purchasing:

  1. Manufacturer. It is important to buy those paints that have already proven themselves and are very popular among consumers. These include CAPAROL, DUFA, CERESIT, TIKKURILA. However, they are expensive, but they are worth the cost. Less expensive products include ŚNIEŻKA products;
  2. Type of paint. Water-based paints are divided into three types - for walls, ceilings and floors. Their difference is that for floors and walls they are considered to be of higher quality and last longer. But for ceilings they are not so durable and are not designed for frequent washing, wiping and cleaning. But don’t think that paints for floors and walls are not suitable for ceiling surfaces. If ceilings need to be constantly washed and wiped, then it is best to use wall paint;
  3. Paint structure. The structure of this product can be matte or glossy. If preliminary preparation is not planned to be carried out, it is better to use a matte product, it will hide all the irregularities. But glossy, on the contrary, will highlight all defects, so before painting with this type of product better ceiling pre-prepare;
  4. Color. Here you can already choose according to your taste. Water-based paints are mainly available in white. They can be given a different color with pigments and special dyes.

Working on a whitewashed ceiling

When the paint is chosen, it is necessary to carefully prepare the ceiling surface. If there is whitewash on it, then it should be cleaned off, but this must be done correctly. The main thing is to do everything step by step.

The ceiling must be cleaned in accordance with following rules and recommendations:

  • If there are cracks or unevenness on the ceiling, if whitewash or old paint comes off the surface, then everything should be cleaned with a spatula and the excess removed;
  • All defects, irregularities, and cracks must be puttied, treated with sandpaper and a primer mixture;
  • If the ceiling is smooth and there are no defects or cracks on it, then it can simply be treated with a primer solution;
  • In order to remove whitewash from the surface, you need to wet it and wait until the liquid is absorbed. After this, remove everything with a spatula and wipe with a damp sponge;
  • All furniture must be covered with film or paper to prevent drops of paint from falling on them in the future;
  • It is advisable to cover all walls and floors with film.

Before you start painting, you should prepare in advance the tools you will need:

  1. Paint roller. A tool with a length of 18 cm to 25 cm is best suited. It is advisable that the pile be medium - not too long and not too short;
  2. Painting cuvette with a corrugated bottom;
  3. Sandpaper for sanding the surface;
  4. Metal spatula;
  5. Painting tape;
  6. Cellophane film;
  7. Safety glasses.

Also in order to reach hard to reach places You will need a stepladder or a long extendable handle for the roller.

  • Before you start painting the ceiling, treat the entire surface with a primer;
  • If you suddenly need to make the ceiling colored, then when preparing the colored paint, be sure to follow the proportions. Need to calculate accurately required amount paint and dilute dye or pigment in it. If the proportions are not met exactly, then during subsequent preparation you may make a mistake with the shade and, as a result, the color of the paint may turn out completely different. Therefore, it is best to do it with a reserve;
  • The paint must be applied in several layers. If it is applied in only one layer, then all the unevenness and stains will be visible. The most even effect is obtained only from the second or third layer;
  • You can use a spray gun for painting. This device is easy and simple to use, and the coloring will be even almost the first time. However, this tool is very expensive;
  • The best option for painting is a roller. With it you can evenly paint the entire surface. But it is impossible to paint seams or joints with it. A small paint brush will do for this.

Painting - stages

Now let’s look at the rules for even coloring and without streaks:

  • First of all, prepare the paint; you need to stir it well until smooth;
  • To paint the first layer, you need to add a small amount of water to the paint;
  • Remember that painting should be done from the windows and into the room. Also, painting should be done in two layers - one across daylight, another along;
  • Next, dip the roller into the ditch and roll it several times so that it is saturated with paint;
  • During coloring, movements should be confident and smooth, without jerking or shaking;
  • Make sure that the roller does not dry out from the paint, otherwise streaks and stains will appear;
  • After the first layer of painting is completed, leave it for 8-12 hours so that the layer dries completely;
  • Once the layer dries, you can begin painting the second layer. Work should start from the far corner, and paint should be perpendicular to the previous layer.

This one is environmentally friendly pure material is in demand in many areas of human activity. This is largely due to the fact that painting the ceiling with acrylic paint yourself without the involvement of specialists, it is a fairly simple job. No special knowledge or experience is required here. The main thing is not to rush and do everything carefully. But before that, it’s better to watch a video on how to properly paint a ceiling with acrylic paint. Then it will be much easier to cope with such work.

How to paint without streaks?

Before painting work, you need to prepare following materials, tools and accessories:

  • foam roller and spatula;
  • tassels different sizes;
  • wide paint brush;
  • tape or other sticky tape;
  • paint tray;
  • sandpaper;
  • protective clothing and safety glasses;
  • a stable stepladder.

When everything is prepared, you can begin painting the ceiling with acrylic paint.

As you know, water-dispersed paints are based on polyacrylates. They differ in cost and physical properties. To cover living room surfaces, it is not necessary to use a moisture-resistant composition or a coloring agent designed to withstand temperature changes. You can use cheaper acrylate paint for ceilings, which is offered in a wide variety by manufacturers.

How to paint with a roller?

Flat surfaces, such as ceilings, are often painted using foam rollers. Companies issue similar products different sizes and designs, using not only foam rubber, but also fabric material. The minimum length of the roller is 5 cm, and the maximum is 30 cm. If you need a larger size, you can make it yourself.

Painting a plasterboard ceiling with acrylic paint looks incredibly attractive. If you are going to paint it without using a stepladder or table, then you will have to attach a longer handle to the roller. In this case, it is easy to paint the ceiling while standing on the floor. Based on this, we can conclude: painting ceilings with acrylic paint with a roller is the best option.

Painting a two-level plasterboard ceiling in two colors

This material is a dry layer gypsum plaster, on both sides, covered with cardboard. It contains various polymer additives. Before painting it, the ceiling must be prepared: putty all joints and cracks, and then coat it with a primer. Only in this case will the paint reliably adhere to the plaster. Painting two-level ceiling made of plasterboard in two colors, no different from conventional painting of surfaces.

Cracking of this material occurs due to improper installation. To paint the ceiling with acrylic paint without streaks, you do not need to use a paint brush. To operate such a tool you need some experience. Regardless of the choice of tool, any surface must first be prepared. This work is not difficult at all. You wash it off old whitewash, remove the bumps with a spatula, and fill the recesses with putty. Then treat the entire surface sandpaper. After this, you can move on to the primer.

When the preparation of the ceiling for painting with acrylic paint is completed, the surface should be thoroughly dried. By the way, if the plaster is not coated with a primer, the paint will not adhere to it. The primer material is applied to the prepared surface in two layers. Watch a video about painting the ceiling with acrylic paint yourself.

Before starting the main work, furniture should be removed from the room, and cover the floor plastic film . Painting the ceiling surface should begin from the corners. A roller will not help in such places, so you will have to use a brush. After successfully painting the corners, you can use a foam roller. Ceiling painting acrylic compounds with the use of this tool, it is carried out quickly and efficiently.

Painting any surfaces should consist of three layers. Thanks to this, there will be no streaks or streaks left. Before each application of paint to the ceiling, the roller should be carefully rolled out in a tray. This will get rid of excess coloring composition. Only in this case there will be no leaks. First and last layer Apply perpendicular to the windows.

White acrylate paint for the ceiling in the kitchen is used more often than other colors. It visually increases the height of the room. This is more suitable for small apartments. The main thing is to properly prepare the coloring composition. The consistency should not be too liquid or thick. While working, you should periodically step away and inspect the painted surface from different sides. Only in this case can you notice minor defects in the form of stripes and stains.

The price of acrylic paint for walls and ceilings depends on the number of components it contains. For rooms where there is always high percent humidity, buy a more expensive coloring composition, with special water-repellent fillers. For a bedroom, living room or hallway, the most suitable cheap option acrylic paint.

Except paint brushes and foam rollers, the ceiling and walls can be painted using a spray gun. This device is a regular spray bottle that can even be made from a vacuum cleaner. With its help, painting any surfaces is carried out much faster. Before this, you can practice on the wall of a barn. The main thing is to prepare the paint correctly. To do this, you need to follow the manufacturer's instructions and your own intuition.

If after painting the ceiling foam roller There are streaks or streaks left, they can be smoothed out using a spray gun. The main thing is to do everything quickly, without staying in one place for a second. As soon as you stop, a leak is guaranteed. To obtain ideal layers, the paint should be diluted in accordance with the requirements specified in the accompanying documents. The main thing is not to cover acrylic paints frozen and untreated surfaces. Also avoid randomly applied layers.

Typically, coloring compositions are sold in finished form, but sometimes require additional refinement. To a certain extent, this is even better, since by diluting thick paint, you get significantly more coloring matter, which means you save some money.

Currently, painting the ceiling is becoming increasingly popular in city apartments. Accordingly, ordinary whitewashing fades into the background. There is a fairly simple explanation for this.

Material advantages

It should be noted that paint is more stable compared to whitewash. In addition, aesthetic appearance the material lasts much longer. Certain types of paint are not at all afraid wet cleaning. This feature is very important when it comes, for example, to the kitchen. At the same time, no difficulties are noted in the painting technology. The duration of the procedure is similar to applying whitewash.

Material selection

Decoration

Painting is carried out with uniform and consistent movements. In this case, it is necessary to maintain a certain speed when applying the composition. Before painting the ceiling, you must thoroughly mix the mixture in the jar. It is recommended to start applying the composition with a brush. First of all, you should paint the baseboards, ceiling edges, and corners. The first layer is applied along the wall on which the window is located, and the second - perpendicular to it. It is recommended to apply the composition in strips from 0.7 to 1 m.

In principle, you can paint the ceiling with any paint and any color. It all depends on the imagination of the owner of the premises. A white ceiling is the most common option, as white color gives a feeling of space and elegance. The choice of compositions for coloring today is so large that without special knowledge it is very difficult to choose which one is specifically needed to obtain the desired result.

Peculiarities

When renovating premises, the following are mainly used:

  • paints based on organic solvents;
  • water-soluble paints.

The compositions of the first group are characterized by a sharp unpleasant odor during application and drying due to the evaporation of resin esters and solvents included in their composition. In everyday life they are called oil, but this is a common name that has almost nothing to do with the actual composition. Among them are oil-alkyd, nitro enamels and epoxy paints. After drying, they all form a durable film that is not washed off with water.

Such compositions for painting the ceiling today are used only in rooms not intended for domestic needs. Apply to surfaces not treated with gypsum-based plastering and putty materials (cement-based compositions only).

The second group includes paints for which water is the solvent. What they have in common is the consistency of an emulsion, which includes particles of polymers, pigment and water. They are classified depending on the polymer used.

When painting, the surface dries touch-sensitive in 1-2 hours, completely dry in 6-8 hours, the emulsion does not smell during operation and drying. It is not a mistake to call such paints water-dispersion, since an emulsion is a type of dispersion solution.

For application water-based coating original surface must be carefully prepared. The composition of the mixtures for preparing the surface for painting does not matter.

Kinds

Water-soluble paints differ from each other in the type of polymer that is their base, and there are:

  • acrylic;
  • latex;
  • vinyl;
  • silicone;
  • silicate.

Silicone and silicate compounds are used where the surface needs to be given additional properties such as water repellency, antifungal protection, and vapor permeability. They are semi-gloss, meaning they have a slight shine.

For painting ceilings in rooms intended for permanent residence, water-dispersed solutions based on latex, vinyl and acrylates are used. All these compositions, after application, give a deeply matte, matte, semi-matte, semi-gloss or glossy surface.

Silicone and silicate are used if painted surfaces are exposed to aggressive influences environment(water vapor, evaporation of chemical reagents).

Water-soluble paints are available in two types: base “A” and base “C”. When purchasing, be sure to check this marking. What is the difference? White color The pigment is added to the coloring composition by titanium dioxide. The more it is in the composition, the greater the “hiding power” (translucency through a layer or the density of one layer) the composition has. Accordingly, with the help of such a solution it is easier to obtain a perfectly evenly painted surface with less consumption.

But since this pigment is not cheap, the price of the same volume is different manufacturers directly depends on its quantity.

Base C is translucent and is intended for tinting dark colors. On base A, which contains titanium dioxide, obtain dark color will not succeed, no matter how much tinting paste is added. All the same, the color will be in the pastel palette.

From the point of view of environmental friendliness and ease of use, there is practically no difference in water-soluble compositions. All of them are almost odorless and dry quickly. And the performance characteristics depend on the amount of polymer that makes up the paint base. The less it is, the less resistance of the painted surface to washing and abrasion. This is usually reflected in the name of the paint by numbers.

If you take cans with the same name (from the same manufacturer), then marking 2 will mean ordinary, not very durable paint. When painting with such a composition, tinted in color, after an attempt to wash the dirty area, a stain of a different color will remain.

No. 3 is more stable, there will be almost no stains. Paints with higher grades provide a durable film that can be washed without problems or stains. The same markings usually apply to reflective characteristics as well. The higher the number, the more shiny the finished surface will be.

Surface preparation

To get a painted ceiling that looks like a stretch ceiling, that is, perfectly even in plane and color, its surface needs to be prepared.

Ceiling preparation includes the stages of removing the existing coating (whitewash or old paint) to the slab or drywall, sealing and gluing the joints between the floor slabs, if the slab is not solid, possibly plastering the failed areas, puttingtying the entire surface with several types of putty to eliminate defects in the form of pores and scratches, followed by sanding the resulting surface.

Preparation directly depends on the initial state of the floor slabs and the chosen paint. In houses where people have lived for many years, they may be whitewashed and once painted.

If the ceiling has been whitewashed, then the whitewash must be washed off. This is done using hot water, roller, spatula, sponge and old terry towel. The whitewash is wetted in sections with a roller hot water once or twice, removed with a spatula, after which the floor slab is washed with a generously moistened sponge and wiped with a terry towel.

Proper removal of the whitewash should result in a clean gray concrete ceiling. It is acceptable if there is whitewash remaining, ingrained into the pores. After this, the ceiling is puttied, depending on the chosen paint, from two (for deeply matte) to five times (for glossy).

If the surface was previously painted with water-soluble paint, you need to check how the old coating holds up. Sometimes, if the ceiling was done perfectly, it will be enough to wash off the dirt from it and paint it once in the direction of the light falling from the window.

To assess the quality of the old coating, the ceiling must be wetted by creating a small draft. It is necessary to moisten up to two times, keeping for 30-40 minutes. If defects in the form of bubbles or paint delamination are revealed, they are cleaned off with a spatula and a coarse abrasive. Defective areas are puttied with a polymer finishing compound, and after it has completely dried, they are sanded “to zero” with the painted surface.

Transitions and flows of putty are unacceptable. A new coat of paint will highlight them, and the ceiling will be ruined.

Updating or repainting the ceiling is not difficult at all. To correct all the unevenness, you must first clean it, remove the chandelier and thoroughly prime it.

Selecting Tools

To apply the coloring composition you will need two rollers of different sizes, a soft brush, a tray with a grooved surface for squeezing, and a telescopic extension.

The brush should be soft so as not to leave marks from the bristles. You should never buy completely synthetic brushes, as they become unusable after only five to ten minutes of use. Natural bristles tend to “fall out” from the cage, remaining on the surface being painted. The most the best option is a brush with mixed bristles. It lasts a long time and does not lose lint.

The roller should not be made of foam rubber or thin synthetic thread. The first leaves bursting bubbles, which are then visible to the naked eye. The second loses lint-threads, which are extremely difficult to remove. To paint the ceiling, select a roller coat with piles of varying heights.

The higher the pile, the more shagreen the surface can be obtained. Perfect if needed smooth ceiling, the height of the pile should not exceed 6 mm. Rollers with very low pile (so-called velor), if they are poorly made by the manufacturer, will leave diagonal stripes from the seams on the surface of the ceiling.

A wide roller is used to roll out the main surface; a small roller is used to roll out paint applied with a brush. This is due to the fact that the texture of surfaces painted with a brush and roller differs from each other. If you do not roll out the paint composition applied with a brush, then visually this place will look darker or lighter than the main surface. The pile height of the rollers should be the same.

The tray is necessary to squeeze out excess paint from the rollers to avoid uneven application. The telescopic extension allows you to paint the ceiling while standing on the floor, rather than crawling on a stepladder. You can also use a spray gun.

How to divorce?

The puttyed and sanded unpainted surface of the ceiling looks quite decent. Defects, if any, will appear only after applying a coat of paint. Amateurs believe that paint alone can hide their imperfections. This is completely the wrong approach. Vice versa, it highlights and reveals all the defects that remain after surface preparation.

Only after applying the first layer can you clearly see all the scratches, small and not so pores, and the sagging of one layer of putty onto another. Therefore, the first layer, which is essentially a surface primer, must be done with a highly diluted composition. It must be diluted in certain proportions.

If defects appear, they are eliminated, and after that the main layers of coating are applied. If there are pores left that they are trying to hide with paint, then with each layer they will be visible more and more. As a result, the more you pour onto the defect, the larger and more noticeable it is. For basic coloring, the water-dispersion composition must be diluted if it is thicker than the consistency of kefir. Otherwise, you may end up with shagreen areas that differ from the rest of the ceiling surface.

Application

Before painting the ceiling, it is first “circled” around the perimeter, starting from the corner farthest from the window. Using a brush, carefully paint the joints of the ceiling and wall, capturing a strip 4 to 6 cm wide, and roll the paint after the brush onto the ceiling with a small roller. If provided ceiling plinth, he paints at the same time. This is due to the fact that it is simply impossible to paint the corners well with a large roller. In addition, it can stain the walls or leave paint drips on the baseboards.

The roller is soaked in paint so that it is completely saturated with it. If there is even a small area that is not wetted, there will be “unpainted areas.” To ensure uniform application, the roller must be wrung out after soaking so that the paint does not run off it and drip everywhere. Since the primer was applied along the light, the second layer must be applied in a perpendicular direction, that is, along the window.

The last layer must be applied in the direction of the light. You can paint in sections of 1 m by 1 m, with each subsequent square overlapping the previous one, or in stripes of a width slightly larger than the width of the roller. In any case, the roller is rolled until it is almost dry.

When all the paint collected with the roller remains on the ceiling, you immediately need to roll out any possible tracks of droplets that form along the edges of the roller yourself. If this is not done, stripes will remain on the ceiling, visible to the naked eye. Each layer of paint is applied in one pass. If you apply in areas that have time to dry, you will get visible boundaries between them. We must always remember that paint, like any material, also has its own thickness.

When applying the coloring composition with your own hands in perpendicular directions, unpainted surfaces are practically eliminated. If, however, any of the areas “shines through,” correct it with a small roller, being sure to roll the paint dry so as not to get a stain that differs in texture from the main surface. All work must be done in stages.

If it so happens that when painting you overlooked areas where more paint was applied than neighboring ones, they will look like dark spots due to their higher relief. In this case, before applying the next layer, it is necessary to sand them with a fine abrasive.

If small concave areas (pits) were invisible when preparing the ceiling, after painting they will look like spots due to light shining on the relief. Any hill in oblique light gives a shadow. In this case, you need to level such places with neighboring ones using finely dispersed finishing putty. After this, sand the edges of the area in line with the rest of the surface so that the boundaries of the area are not visible, after which you can first roll it with a small roller diluted with a solution, and then apply the last layer of paint to the entire ceiling.

To track all possible surface defects during the work process, and not after achieving the final result, illuminate the ceiling with oblique light using a carrying lamp.

To avoid a striped ceiling, all operations are done in a perpendicular direction.

Any layer is applied only after the previous one has completely dried. Otherwise, the wet putty, which has not yet dried and not hardened, will stick (“wrap around”) on the roller, and you will have to putty the resulting defects.

When it changes temperature regime indoors, the paint can “sit”, that is, shrink in places to such an extent that cracks may appear. Drying too quickly can also lead to this. Therefore, the best option would be to disable heating elements, close the windows and leave a bucket of water in the freshly painted room.

Water-soluble compounds cannot be painted over surfaces that are already painted with alkyd or oil paints. For example, they are not suitable for tiles. After drying, the painted canvas will show small cracks - this is the so-called craquelure effect. But if you are stylizing your space as antique, this may be appropriate.

If the ceiling is already painted, done perfectly and just needs to be refreshed, just vacuum it and use a slightly damp microfiber cloth. It will only need to be repainted if the paint has turned yellow over time. It can only be washed with clean water.

If the painted ceiling has been flooded by the neighbors above and there are stains left on it from rusty water, first go through this area, and then the entire surface of the ceiling with a chloramine solution (“White”), and the stains will disappear.
