Specialization: master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing work and laying floor coverings. Installation of door and window units, finishing of facades, installation of electrical, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you need high-quality protection for your windows from sunlight or prying eyes, then the simplest solution is to install blinds on your windows. This option has a number of advantages: low cost, ease of installation and the ability to purchase products of any size. In this review, we will figure out how you can attach the structure; there are different methods for carrying out the work, so you will definitely find the right one.

Overview of mounting options

Now let's move directly to the workflow. When installed in different ways, the size of the blinds varies within significant limits. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you first read this section, choose the method that is most suitable, and only then order blinds according to the recommendations that will be given in the corresponding paragraph.

There is no need to rush; in construction and renovation, this always leads to unnecessary costs or problems during the work. Only after understanding all the nuances, proceed to choosing the product and its installation.

Method 1 - fastening inside the opening

A very common solution that is characterized by a fairly simple workflow and is highly reliable. Installing blinds on a plastic window yourself can be done in several ways:

  • On the top of the window frame, this is a very popular solution due to its simplicity;
  • On the wall above the window, if the space in the opening allows this;
  • On the top of the opening, if it is not possible to use any of the above methods.

If you decide to use this particular option, then here are recommendations on how to choose the optimal size of blinds:

  • The width of the system should be 4 cm less than the width of the opening, that is, you should have 2 cm gaps on both sides. This is necessary not only for the free movement of the structure, but also for the normal fastening of the upper box, since it can be wider than the lamellas themselves;

  • The height of the system should be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. But there is an important nuance here - if one or two doors open, then the box should be positioned so as not to interfere with the operation of the structure. If this does not work, then it is better to use the option of mounting on the doors, which we will describe below.

To carry out the work we will need the following:

Equipment Description
Mounting brackets
Blinds You must purchase a ready-made kit in sizes taking into account the recommendations described above. Usually the structure is assembled and you only need to make sure that the cord is not tangled
Mounting brackets Most often they come included, but sometimes you need to purchase them separately. For example, if you are mounting the system to the ceiling, then a wall bracket may not be suitable, although many modern manufacturers include universal elements that can be used for any type of work.
Screwdriver With its help, self-tapping screws will be tightened; if you fix the blinds on the frame, then no other power tools will be needed
Hammer It is necessary when drilling an opening for installing dowels, with which the mounting brackets will be fixed. Naturally, the kit must include a drill of the appropriate diameter and length
Measuring tool Of course, you can’t do without markings; a level, ruler or tape measure and pencil are used for the work. It is important to place the blinds level, so do not do the work by eye

Now let's figure out how to install the structure correctly:

  • First you need to unpack the blinds, make sure that everything is in order and there is no damage. Then the box is tried on the opening, you must check if everything is in order and if all the dimensions match, it won’t take much time, but everything will definitely be in order. If the shutters at the window open, then be sure to check whether the frame does not interfere with their movement, do not miss other little things like handles on the windows, blinds should not rest against them;

  • Using a level, you need to mark the horizontal on the surface; just put a couple of dots or strokes so that you can refer to them as you work. Next, attach the brackets and mark the points for drilling the holes; if you are attaching to the wall or the top of the opening, if you are fixing it to the frame, you must also put the points in the right places;
  • If you need to drill holes, then this part of the work is done, after which plastic dowels are inserted, creating holes for the screws that will secure the fasteners. In cases where you are attaching to PVC, you can immediately screw special screws into the plastic; they fit well into the material. It is much easier to work with a screwdriver, although a regular screwdriver will do;

  • If the brackets are installed correctly, then fixing the container with blinds in them will not be difficult; it simply snaps into the fasteners. The structure must be held securely and not move at the attachment points;
  • Lastly, the operation of the system is checked; everything should move easily, without any problems or obstacles.

Method 2 – fastening from outside the opening

Now let's figure out how to install the blinds outside the opening yourself. This option is suitable for cases where the window is not recessed deeply into the wall and if you need to darken the room as best as possible, there are two mounting methods:

  • If the window is located deep, then the structure is installed on the wall above the opening;
  • When the window is flush with the wall or slightly recessed, the installation is carried out on special brackets;
  • Sometimes the fastening is made to, such a system is more often used in vertical blinds due to their large size.

Now let’s figure out how to determine the optimal size of blinds in this case:

  • The width of the product should be 10 cm larger than the width of the opening, so that on each side the system extends onto the walls by at least 5 cm, this will ensure high-quality darkening. The height can be 10 cm more than the opening if the window sill does not protrude, or the size is calculated individually if there is a protrusion;

When hanging the box, do not forget that it should not interfere with the opening of the doors; the easiest way is to place it along the top line of the opening.

  • If the window is located flush with the wall and the blinds are mounted at a distance from the wall, then the width of the structure should be at least 20 cm wider than the opening to ensure high-quality darkening. As for the height, it is determined based on whether the system will go below the opening or lie on the window sill.

The following list of tools is required for work:

  • A hammer drill with a drill of the required size;
  • Level and pencil for marking;
  • A screwdriver or screwdriver for tightening fasteners.

The work instructions look like this:

  • First, you need to place the blinds against the opening to make sure that you have not made a mistake with the width. Using a level, marks are made in the right places, after which you need to determine the exact position of the mounting brackets and mark the points at which these elements will be attached to the wall;

  • Drilling is done at marked points, so as not to constantly check the depth, wrap electrical tape around the drill in the required place and use it as a guide when working, so you will not make the holes too deep or too shallow;

If your structure is more than one and a half meters wide, then it should be hung not on two, but on three brackets to ensure the necessary rigidity and strength. For large sizes, it is better to use aluminum products; they are less susceptible to deformation and retain clear geometry for many years.

  • Attaching the brackets is quick and easy if you make the holes in the right places. The working process is simple: first, plastic dowels are inserted and pressed until they stop, after which the load-bearing elements are attached and fixed using the screws included in the kit. They can either be screwed in or simply driven in with a hammer, the reliability of the fastening does not suffer from this;
  • The last step is this: you need to insert the container into the latches, make sure that it is securely fixed, after which you can begin to check the functionality of the system.

Method 3 - fastening to the sashes using clamps

Now let's figure out how to install plastic blinds on plastic windows, although the process is similar for products made from other materials. This option is perfect for windows in which one or more sashes open; separate elements are attached to each half of the glazing, which allows you to open not the entire opening, but part of it. In addition, such solutions do not interfere with the opening of windows, which is also important.

Fastening is always done on the frame, and you can do it as indicated in the first method - using self-tapping screws. But this solution has one significant drawback: if you decide to remove the blinds, then there will be holes on the surface, which are unlikely to be eliminated. Therefore, it is better to use the technology from this section, then the frames will remain intact.

Let's consider how to determine the optimal sizes of blinds in this case:

  • The width of the structure should be 3 cm greater than the width of the glazing, that is, the overlap on the frame is 1.5 cm. It is important that the system does not rest against the handle and does not interfere with opening the window;
  • The height should be 3-5 cm greater than the height of the glass unit.

In this case, we will need the following set of materials:

  • Finished blinds with a U-shaped top;
  • Plastic clips that are specially configured to attach to the frame and snap into the blind frame;
  • Bottom holders that will fix the blinds in a tense position and will not allow them to sag, even if the window is open.

As for the tools, we don’t need anything at all - just our hands and the desire to carry out the installation without outside help.

Installation of blinds on a plastic window is carried out using the following technology:

  • First you need to open the sash and wipe it with a cloth, the structure should be clean;
  • The latches are placed on the frame on both sides of the sash with a distance from the edges of at least a few centimeters, if the width is large or the blinds are massive, then three fastening elements can be used;
  • Lastly, the blind box is inserted under the outer part of the holders until it clicks. The latch protrusion should fit into the groove as shown in the diagram below, everything is quite simple and easy;

  • Lastly, clamps are installed at the bottom of the frame. Here it is important to clearly mark their position so that the open blinds are taut and not dangling. When the marking is completed, you can attach the elements using self-tapping screws or using double-sided tape so as not to damage the window profile.

Method 4 – mounting on universal brackets

This option is similar to the one described above, but it also has a number of differences, so it should be considered separately. It also does not require drilling of the shutters, no tools are needed for operation, and the main fastening element is a universal mount, which is suitable for blinds, roller and pleated curtains. That is, you get a platform on which you can attach different systems.

The list of materials and the measurement process are no different from the option described above, so we will start immediately with the installation process. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, you need to clean the surface from dust and degrease it; this will allow us to secure our elements as securely as possible;
  • Then you need to glue double-sided tape to the back of the clamps. There are different options in stores, choose better products that are designed for fastening heavy objects, so as not to worry about the reliability of the structure;

  • The bracket is inserted into the mounting platform if necessary; if you are attaching the structure to a blind sash, then the latch is not needed. This is a very big plus, since in the previous case it was impossible to attach blinds to blind sashes without self-tapping screws;
  • Then a bracket of the configuration we need is attached to the base; short self-tapping screws are used for the job so that they do not protrude from the back side;
  • Next, the elements are glued to the surface in the required places, and in the case of opening doors, they are also snapped onto the upper end;
  • Lastly, the blind box is secured - and the structure is ready for use, everything is simple and quick.

If you are thinking about how to install plastic blinds on windows, then this option is perfect, because the design is light in weight and double-sided tape will easily hold it in place.

Conclusion

Installation of blinds can be carried out without hiring specialists; any of the above-described options for carrying out the work can be done even by an inexperienced craftsman. There are two different options for attaching blinds to a plastic window. Let's look at the advantages and disadvantages of different mounting methods and find out how to hang blinds with your own hands.

For some interior planning cases, blinds may be preferable to curtains. Their main advantage is the ability to regulate the light output. All you need to do for this is to rotate the slats to a larger or smaller angle relative to the surface of the window. There are two main methods used to attach blinds. Let's analyze their advantages and find out. How to attach them with your own hands.

How to take measurements correctly

First of all, the blinds must be the right size. To do this, you need to decide on the method of fastening. Methods can be divided into two groups:

If you plan to install blinds on several windows, you should measure each opening separately. Although it seems that the window openings are exactly the same, this is not always true. A discrepancy of 2-3 cm can lead to consequences that are difficult to eliminate.

If you plan to mount a vertical structure, it is necessary to measure the height and width of the window opening. You should be careful when measuring, since you can shorten slats that are too long, but adding additional elements to narrow blinds will be problematic.

If the model has horizontal lamellas, the measurements will be somewhat more complex. If the blinds are attached to the opening, you need to determine what the width and height are. The length of the canvas is selected at your own discretion. You can find both models that reach the window sill, as well as long options that reach the floor. If necessary, blinds with plastic or aluminum slats are not difficult to make shorter.

When installing directly on the frame, you will need to consider whether the window will open.

If the window is solid and does not open, you can measure the entire width of the opening. If the shutters will open, it is worth ordering a separate structure for each half of the window. Measurements should also be taken accordingly. Measure the parameters of the glass (width x height) and add 20 mm on top and 5 mm on the edges.

When designing blinds attached directly to the frame, make sure that they will not interfere with the operation of the fittings and will not become an insurmountable obstacle to its maintenance (lubrication, adjustment, etc.)

Preparatory work

So, the mounting method has been determined, the blinds have been selected, ordered, manufactured and delivered to the apartment. What to do next? Before you start attaching the blinds to the window, it is worth doing some preparatory work.

First of all, you need to unpack the finished product, carefully untangle all the cords, without leaving the slightest knot, and examine the finished product. According to the attached instructions, you must carefully check the completeness, make sure that all structural elements are in place and look exactly as in the instructions.

If at the packaging stage something is mixed up or not included in the box, the blinds will not be installed. It is better to immediately file a complaint with the manufacturer than to look for a replacement or improvise, trying to do without the missing part.

You also need to prepare the window itself. You need to remove all unnecessary items from it. It is worth protecting the window sill and the nearest meters of floor with newspapers from dust and the inevitable debris when drilling. It is also worth making sure that you have reliable support for your feet (stepladder or sawhorse), so that the drill cord allows you to reach all drilling points.

Preparatory work when attaching blinds is not complicated and does not take much time. But if all these operations are not done on time, the installation process can take a significant amount of time and require a lot of labor.

No drilling

Modern plastic double-glazed windows allow you to install blinds without using an electric drill. There may be several reasons for choosing this mounting method. For example, under the terms of the lease agreement, it is prohibited to carry out such manipulations in rented housing. Other reasons may be the lack of necessary power tools, reluctance to bother with drilling or spoil the surroundings.

First of all, it is worth considering that fasteners without the use of drills and screws are usually less reliable. This means that only lightweight structures can be secured in place in this way.

Usually the lamellas in them are arranged horizontally and are made of thin and light polymer. For heavier models, it is still worth choosing a fastening method using self-tapping screws. You can usually find out whether the selected model can be hung without drilling from the included instructions.

To work, you will need double-sided adhesive tape and scissors. The operating procedure is as follows:

The last stage of installation is attaching the adjustment strips to the block and installing the slats in place. The reliability of the fastening allows the blinds (provided that the model is not too heavy) to hang in place for several years without distortion or separation from the attachment point. However, when cleaning (removing dust from records), you must act carefully so as not to tear off the structure.

If you eventually need to remove tape-mounted blinds, this is quite easy to do. A special liquid (for example, Anti-Scotch composition) will help remove traces of glue.

But if you don’t have a professional solvent at hand, you can use a rag soaked in WD-40 or vegetable oil.

Required materials and tools

Now let's look at fastening with self-tapping screws. This is a much more versatile option that allows you to hang almost any model using any mounting method (on the ceiling, in an opening or on the walls).

First of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the fastening elements included with the blinds. Sometimes manufacturers (this statement especially applies to cheap Chinese-made models) include too short and thin self-tapping screws made of low-quality steel. If you plan to attach heavy structures to the ceiling, it may be worth purchasing something more reliable.

Also for work you will need:

  • Measuring tools: pencil, ruler with bubble level, tape measure.
  • Drill. The drill bit for the drill is usually #6.
  • Dowel and hammer.
  • Brackets for mounting (usually included with the product).
  • Scissors.
  • Screwdriver.

Having prepared a set of tools for work, you can begin.

How to hang blinds on plastic windows with your own hands. Step-by-step instruction

The installation process usually does not cause any difficulties even for those who do this work for the first time. We will look at the operations for installing vertical blinds. Here are the main operations that need to be performed:

  • First of all, mark up. The brackets are usually mounted at a distance of 90 - 100 mm from the cornice. Mark the holes for the brackets with a pencil and drill them.
  • Insert plastic dowels into the holes. Insert the self-tapping screws into the holes in the bracket and screw them into the dowels.
  • Install the cornice with attached decorative panels onto the brackets.
  • The runners are assembled according to the instructions provided. You need to attach the canvas to them and thread them into the cornice.
  • Weights are inserted into the lower part of the canvases. A decorative chain is attached to them.
  • Stoppers are inserted into the ends of the cornice and covered with decorative plugs.

The installation of horizontal blinds differs slightly. The main difference is greater sensitivity to strict adherence to horizontal installation.

After assembly, it is important to carefully check the operation of all elements of the system (make sure that you can open and close the blinds, and also change the angle of rotation).

Here are some tips from professional installers:

  • Before purchasing, make sure that the kit includes the necessary brackets. For some companies, the price of the kit includes only the canvas, and fastening and adjusting structures must be purchased separately.
  • If defects are found, you do not need to try to fix them yourself. Contact the manufacturer for replacement or repair.

The main thing in any work is accuracy and adherence to technology. If you do everything correctly, you can hang the blinds with your own hands, quickly and without much difficulty.

It is not always convenient to use curtains. In some cases, blinds are more practical and convenient. They make it possible not only to protect yourself from immodest glances in the evenings, but also to regulate the level of illumination during the day by turning the slats (plates). We will talk about how to install blinds on plastic windows in this publication.

Designs and installation methods

There are two types of blinds for windows - vertical and horizontal. Vertical slats are usually made of plastic or special dense fabric, cut into strips 10-15 cm wide. Less commonly, you can find slats made of aluminum or synthetic threads.

The slats of horizontal blinds come in plastic, wood and metal. Regardless of the type and material, they consist of a cornice and slats. Cornice is a plastic or aluminum U-shaped profile in which the controls are located and from which the lamellas are suspended. Lamels are horizontal or vertical stripes/plates that actually cover the opening. In order to be able to open and close the blinds, there are controls - chains or threads.

In horizontal models there is also a control rod connected to a rotating mechanism. By rotating the rod, the angle of inclination of the lamellas is changed. This is how you can change the amount of light and the “degree of transparency” of the window. If the slats are placed vertically (almost), they completely block the view. When positioned horizontally, they hardly interfere with the view, but there are many other positions.

Installation of horizontal and vertical blinds

When installing blinds, you need to attach the cornice. To fix it, the kit includes specially designed brackets. These brackets are attached to the window or wall, and the cornice is simply put on them (until it clicks).

There are several ways to install blinds on sash windows:

You will have to decide on the method of installing the blinds before purchasing: the size of the canvas depends on this. So the type of installation must be chosen before taking measurements.

We take measurements

You need to decide on the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of installing them (on a wall, on a ceiling, in a sash window, in a window opening) before purchasing. And even before you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with correct measurements will it be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

Another important point: Each window must be measured separately. Sometimes it just seems like they are absolutely the same. Believe me, there is a difference. You also need to write down the measurement results and sign which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help avoid confusion during purchase and installation.

In the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, you need to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the slats does not rub against the window sill.

Please note that you can install blinds on plastic windows “in the opening” not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - near the glass itself or by stepping back 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height/width of the opening will be smaller for the glass, so we take careful measurements. And also, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install blinds on plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

On the ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or just up to the window sill. Moreover, depending on the chosen type of installation, the slats can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like.

This is wall mounting. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase, but how much is up to you

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum offset is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane as the wall surface, you will need additional brackets, which are not included in the package: the slats must be placed at a distance of at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with opening the doors for ventilation.

On the doors

When installing blinds on a multi-leaf window, there are two options - install one device on each sash or order one long one for the entire window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the shutters with the blinds lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each sash and record the results. The doors may be different, so be careful.

The width of the blinds when installed on the shutters is taken to be 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas overlap the profile by 1.5 cm. This is convenient and does not interfere with opening/closing windows. The length depends on the location of the fastener, but usually it is 5 cm longer than the height of the glass.

Once again we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

How to install blinds on plastic windows: attach to a wall or window opening

The first step is to apply markings. We install brackets in the cornice. We place them on the right and left so that they do not interfere with the operation of the blinds. The installation height depends on the selected product length.

We attach the curtains, mark with a pencil on the wall the places for installing fasteners in the brackets. If we are installing horizontal blinds (they are light and create almost no load), it is enough to install one screw/dowel. Vertical ones are heavier, so you need to install all the fasteners from the kit.

There is a second way. At the selected level, use a building level to draw a horizontal line, try to avoid tilting - this will affect the blinds (skew). Place the bottom of the bracket against this line and use a pencil to mark the holes for drilling. If the length of the cornice is more than 2 m, an additional bracket is required to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is attached in the middle.

When attaching to brick or concrete, drill holes in the wall or ceiling at the marked points. A drill or a hammer drill - whoever has what is available. The diameter of the drill depends on the size of the dowels. They usually come included, but you can supply your own.

We insert spacer dowels into the finished holes and carefully hammer them in with a hammer. We install the brackets, fasten them with screws or nails (if dowel-nails are used). We install the cornice on the brackets and insert the plugs on the sides. For horizontal blinds, attach a rod (handle) to control the swing mechanism. To do this, install a special hook (included) directly into the mechanism itself, and attach the tip of the rod to this hook.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this installation method, the blinds are attached with small self-tapping screws (included in the kit) to the window profile. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the handle turning. Be careful: if you drill too close to the bead, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be intimidating, but it's no big deal. In case of incorrectly made holes, the unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic quickly turns yellow). The performance of the windows will not be affected. What can be dangerous is getting into a double glazed window. Then it may crack. But this is not fatal either - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

We install the lower clamps

But that is not all. To finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - for the clamps (also called anti-wind). These are additional fastenings at the bottom of the opening window sash. The bottom edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when ventilating, the blinds do not hang down, dangle in the wind, or knock over objects on the windowsill.

Don't hang out...

We install the clamps like this: we try it on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the fastening points, drill holes, and install. We tuck the bottom bar into the installed clamps. Now, even with a draft or an open shutter, the blinds will not dangle. The only thing you need to watch out for during installation is not to get caught in the glazing bead (this is a long strip that runs along the glass unit and holds it in place). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise there are no problems.

No drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows without drilling the frame. This method is only available for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts/brackets, which are placed on the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, a strip of double-sided tape is attached to the back of the bracket. After removing the protective film, you can glue it (but you don’t have to fix it).

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but can be purchased at a store or company that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient by simply dismantling the blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Assembly of vertical blinds

Vertical blinds are installed exactly as described above. The difference is that the slats are installed after the cornice (the guide along which the runners move) has been secured. For convenience, before attaching the slats, you can use an adjustment cord to turn the sliders so that the slots in them are perpendicular to the cornice. Next, we simply snap the slats into the runners, inserting the strip until it clicks. So, we fasten all the slats one by one.

If the slats are made of fabric, then after installing them do not forget to insert the lower weight. Next, we attach the lower connecting chain to the lamellas.

The installation of vertical blinds is complete.

There are many types of light-protective sheets, but they have common features. All of them consist of a metal tube-roller, or rod, on which fabric is wound: bamboo or cotton material. The length is adjusted using a chain that is attached to a rotating mechanism on one side of the roll.

Usually at the bottom of the curtain there is a steel or wooden weight bar that protects it from deformation, allows it to hang evenly and fit tightly to the glass. The latter is achieved using a pair of small magnets that are glued to the bottom of the frame and attract the weighting material, if it is metal.

You can take a more complicated route and thread a fishing line through the guides, which will hold the roller shutter during wind fluctuations and opening in the “window” mode. It must first be threaded into the upper fasteners several times so that when tensioned it does not pull out. Unwind it all the way and insert it into the special eyelet on the weight bar. At the bottom of the frame, attach small corners with holes for fishing line. Pull it there, tie it, cut off the excess.

Sometimes manufacturers install a spring inside the shaft. In this case, there is no need to fiddle with the cord with your hands to open or close it. It is enough to pull the plumb line located on the bottom bar with a little effort.

Dimensions

They are different. The length can reach 1.5 m. The standard width is 50 cm, but there are models 30 cm, 150, and more. Very small roller blinds, designed literally for one double-glazed window, are called “mini”. Sometimes they are hung together with ordinary curtains, especially if you need to combine two tasks: to shade the room as much as possible.

Kinds

Open

They are also called classic. The shaft on which the roll is wound is visible to everyone, but this does not spoil the interior. Moreover, there is a significant plus. The crossbar can be shortened if you have the right tools. The canvas itself can also be adjusted to fit the opening if you made a mistake with the dimensions or simply did not find the ideal option in the store.

Open structures are most often installed on small ones. Those that can be hung without drilling the frame have PVC clips on both sides of the top edge; they have holes into which both ends of the metal rod are then inserted. These clamps are held on fasteners that are pre-drilled to the wall with screws.

Models that require mounting directly on the frame can be mounted either with self-tapping screws or Velcro. The first option is the most reliable, but it’s not suitable for everyone: the warranty on double-glazed windows expires or you don’t want holes to remain on the crossbar after removing the decor. The second method is especially good for “mini” type products, which, due to their low weight, can be held for years on corner clamps that are placed on the open sash.

Cassette

They, like their open counterparts, come in different sizes, including “standard” and “mini”. You can also fix them using self-tapping screws or double-sided tape. They differ from the previous category in appearance: the textile roller is hidden in a compact plastic box located on the frame. And they are not attached to the wall above the opening - it’s clean. They cost more than the first type, but they look neater.

Cassette varieties, both with and without a spring, are mounted only on glazing beads, and not on the entire opening. They are particularly demanding in terms of measurement accuracy. Otherwise, the cassette will not fit or the rod will not be enough to “catch” the opposite edges of the sash. Please note that when unfolded they cover about half of the window sill. Therefore, if it is occupied by flowers or other decor, it is better to choose a system that is installed above the opening. Otherwise, it will not be possible to fully expand it.

Degree of transparency

The material for making roller shutters is most often dense fabric. It can be cotton, synthetics or mixed materials. The degree of transparency varies depending on the fabric. Based on this feature, three types of roller shutters are distinguished; they are presented in the table.

Relatively recently, an interesting variety has appeared, with the ability to regulate the degree of illumination of the room. It is called a day/night or zebra roller blind. These are two panels, each of which is assembled from strips of transparent and light-proof fabric. The strips move one relative to the other, either completely darkening the room or allowing access to the sun's rays.

The materials for making roller shutters are impregnated with special compounds, so they repel dirt, do not attract dust, and do not become electrified. The finishing of the panels can be very different. Photo printing has been especially popular lately, which allows you to create very interesting solutions for interior design.

Roller blinds for plastic windows

Installation sequence:

  1. We outline the locations of the fasteners.
  2. We drill holes, put the side clamps in place, and secure them with self-tapping screws.
  3. We put the roller with the cloth in place and close the plugs.
  4. We prepare the guides for installation, remove the protective tape from the self-adhesive layer. Lower the curtain by 20-25 cm.
  5. We place the canvas under the guides and carefully glue them in place.
  6. We install limiters on the chain mechanism or a decorative weight on the weight bar. We check the functionality.

Installation of cassette models

  1. First apply the markings.
  2. Using a level, adjust the “horizon” of the location of the roller shutter.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points.
  4. Using self-tapping screws at the top of the glass unit, screw the box with the roll rolled up inside it.
  5. If you don't want to make holes, use tape at least a millimeter thick. But first, work some magic on the markings so that the box hangs evenly.

Fastening roller shutters “mix”

Models that can be opened not only from the bottom, but also from the top are becoming very popular. We'll tell you how to hang them. Measurements are taken along the outer edges of the beads: both in width and height. This will be the perimeter of the fabric cut, and the whole product will be 26 mm wider due to the box. The package includes a fishing line that needs to be cut in half.

Installation sequence

  1. We stretch the end of the fishing line into the hole of each fastening and tie it with a double knot.
  2. Using self-tapping screws, we fix all four fastenings (a pair of lower and upper ones) to the glazing beads.
  3. We insert the line first into the lower bar, then into the upper one.
  4. We thread the free ends of the cable into the holes of both upper fasteners.
  5. Tighten the fastening clamp with a screwdriver, slightly tensioning the fishing line.
  6. We stretch the fishing line to the lower fastenings and fix it there.
  7. Trim off the excess cord.

That's it, the fabric cassette can move up and down, revealing the panorama of the street the way you want. The box can also be made motionless by screwing it to the frame through special holes. Whatever installation option you choose, remember that the control chain needs to be moved away from children’s hands if there is a child in the house. Install the holder for it at such a height that the baby cannot reach it. We invite you to watch a video on how to secure roll

Roller shutters are a good solution for any interior. They are practical, beautiful and allow you to effectively regulate the level of illumination in the room. Night/day roller blinds are especially good for this. For those who do not want to give up traditional curtains, we can recommend using them in combination with rolls. The result is very interesting and functional combinations.

Plastic and aluminum blinds protect the room well from the effects of bright sunlight, which is very important in rooms that are located on the sunny side: in offices and living rooms, where the glare of the sun can interfere with watching TV or working on a computer. It is also convenient that installing horizontal blinds on plastic windows with your own hands is simple and does not require special skills.

Installation Features

The standard kit usually includes brackets, all consumables (bolts and dowels or tape), as well as instructions on how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows. There is nothing complicated about it: first, brackets are mounted on the window, sashes or opening, and then a cornice is inserted into them.

There is no need to worry about how to properly install the lamella system on the cornice: the manufacturer has already done this for you. Therefore, the entire installation process comes down to just mounting the side brackets and takes a minimum of time.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows can be carried out with drilling, without drilling (using double-sided tape) and on drop-down brackets. The choice of method largely depends on where exactly you plan to secure them.

Where to fix the blinds

Before hanging the blinds, please note: manufacturers provide a guarantee for blocks with a width of 22 cm to 220 cm and a height of up to 250 cm. A smaller width does not make sense, and for a larger one it is recommended to use two independent blocks. Blinds for large plastic windows are also available for sale, but they are attached without a guarantee for the functionality of the structure.

How to make dimensions

Before installing blinds correctly, you need to take measurements. All subsequent installation and performance of the block system will directly depend on how accurately they are carried out. Instructions for taking dimensions are different for each installation location:

  • Inside window openings (suitable for cases where the window is located in a recess in the wall). It is important here that the slats do not touch the slopes when lifting and lowering. Based on this, we select the width of the block so that it is 4-5 cm (2-2.5 cm on each side) narrower than the window opening. The height of the entire curtain should accordingly be set 2-2.5 cm shorter than the length of the opening. To ensure that each sash can open freely when the slats are raised, a space must be left between the top edge of the window and the blinds.
  • Outside window openings (also suitable for cases where the window unit is placed in a wall recess). This arrangement makes it possible to cover the entire area of the opening with one wide curtain and, if necessary, darken the room more effectively. To do this, you need the width of the slats to be 5-5.5 cm on each side (10-11 cm in total) wider than the window opening, and the height of the entire curtain to be 10 cm lower than the window sill.
  • On window sashes (curtains open together with the sashes, suitable for the mini model). This method saves space as much as possible and leaves the window sill completely free. In this case, blinds should be attached to plastic windows so that they do not interfere with the rotation of the handles on the sashes and do not touch the window sill, but completely cover the glass. To do this, their width should be 1.5 cm on each side edge (only 3 cm) wider than the glass part of the window, and their height should be 1.5 cm greater than its length.
  • Outside the window opening (carried out when the window is located on the same plane with the wall). Since the handles on the shutters extend inside the room, in this case you will need a special bracket, which will make it possible to install fixed blinds at a short distance from the wall. In order for them to completely shade the room when closed, their width should be 20 cm wider than the window opening (10 cm on each side), and their length should be equal to or 10 cm greater than the height of the window.

How to markup

In order to prevent distortions during installation, before installing horizontal blinds on the wall above a plastic window with drilling, it is necessary to make markings. Do not forget to leave enough space above the window, otherwise, when assembled, the slats will interfere with the opening of the sashes.

We will need:

  1. Blind block.
  2. Bolts and dowels to match the bracket.
  3. Roulette.
  4. Level.
  5. Construction pencil.
  6. Drill.
  7. Hammer.
  8. Screwdriver.

Operating procedure:

  1. Using a level and ruler, mark each side.
  2. Place the bottom of the mount on the reference line, then mark the drilling points with a pencil.
  3. Mark the markings with crosses to better identify the drilling points.
  4. Drill where the dowels will go, keeping the tool perpendicular.
  5. Insert the dowels by hand and drive them in with a hammer.

How to hang

The hardest work is behind us. All that remains is to hang the horizontal blinds in place.

Procedure:

  1. We install universal brackets.
  2. By turning the latch counterclockwise, we secure the upper cornice to the bracket at a distance of 20 cm from the edge.
  3. Turn the latch clockwise until it stops.
  4. We insert the hook of the rotating mechanism located on the upper cornice into the control handle (relevant for models with a cord and a handle).

We check the functionality of the system: raise and lower the slats, rotate them at different angles, changing the lighting, check whether they interfere with the opening of the sashes. If all these manipulations were successful without any extra effort, the blinds are installed correctly.
In contrast to thick curtains, a lightweight slatted design made of colored plastic or aluminum painted in different colors ensures good air circulation while guaranteeing uniform lighting. With its help, you can easily protect your home from direct sunlight, and if the color and texture of the slats are correctly chosen to match the design of the apartment, they will highlight its advantages.
