Very often, after repair, it becomes necessary to purchase a new bedside table. However, you can do without going to the store, where finished products are quite expensive - you can do such a thing with your own hands. Moreover, unlike purchased furniture, it will be original and correspond exclusively to your preferences. In this article, we will talk about how to make a bedside table with your own hands, as a result of which you can save money and gain the necessary skills in working with furniture.

What can be made from?

To make an interesting and original bedside table with your own hands, you can use different, sometimes completely unexpected items. Let's look at some interesting options:

  • From boxes - put wooden boxes for fruits, vegetables or postal parcels on wheels or legs. Fasten the shelf inside. This box can be placed both vertically and horizontally. You can also make a bedside table from several drawers by placing them on top of each other.
  • From books - a very unusual option for a bedroom or living room. Tie the stacks of books with straps or tie them with thick ribbons. At the same time, place wooden modules, rectangular or square boxes between the stacks.
  • From the chest - if you are the owner of an old grandmother's chest, then you can make a wonderful vintage nightstand out of it. And somehow decorating it beautifully, for example, using decoupage technique, you will get a real work of art.
  • From suitcases - a nightstand made from old suitcases will decorate any interior, and also provide the room with additional space for storing things. To make a bedside table with your own hands from suitcases, you can either stack several suitcases on top of each other or put one on legs, for example, on a table or stool.
  • From a barrel - such a bedside table will look very interesting in the living room or bedroom. A wooden round barrel is a ready-made cabinet, but it is important to make sure that the barrel is clean and does not have any foreign odors.
  • From a stepladder - a small stepladder will be a great solution to make a bedside table. There is nothing to do in addition, but if desired, it can be painted or aged.

Wooden bedside table with drawers

To make a wooden nightstand with functional and spacious drawers, you will need the following materials:

  • For the frame - 8 pine boards measuring 6.9 by 39.9 cm.
  • For the top, bottom and side panels - 4 laminated pine panels measuring 45.5 by 70 cm.
  • For the arrangement of drawers - 4 pine panels with a laminated coating measuring 17 by 43.5 cm.
  • Screws 4 and 1.6 cm.
  • Joiner's glue.
  • Sponge.
  • Dowels 1.8 cm long and 2 cm in diameter.
  • Stain.
  • acrylic sealant.
  • Wood filler.

In addition to materials, you will also need the following tools:

  • Electric drill.
  • End saw.
  • Pencil.
  • Roulette.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Grinding machine.

Step 1. Assembly of the skeleton

We made a wooden bedside table with the help of a Crag conductor. This method makes it possible to assemble any other furniture without visible holes for fasteners. However, you can choose any other convenient way for you to make a bedside cabinet with your own hands.

Important! First you need to draw a project drawing, because you may need a bedside table diagram at each of the manufacturing stages.

Operating procedure:

  • First of all, armed with a conductor, make holes in all panels and frame supports.
  • Next, fasten the side panel and boards with 4 cm screws.

Important! At this stage, it is necessary to ensure that the support is located on the same line of the edge of the product.

  • Make holes for each drawer. In our case, the height of one is 15 cm.

Important! In order to measure the required height, you should use a pencil and a tape measure, mark a point 15 cm below the top support and 17 cm above the bottom panel, given that the cabinet will not stand on the floor, but on legs.

  • Repeat the same procedure for each of the drawers.
  • After that, you can continue to add all the necessary supports according to the previously applied markup.
  • Cover the resulting design with the second side panel.
  • At this stage, you should check the presence of all supports, and then screw the side panel with screws.
  • Install the nightstand base in the same way.

Step 2. Designing the top panel:

  • Before you make a bedside table with your own hands, you should close it on top with a wooden panel. Here you can turn on your imagination and make a small canopy behind the product or above the drawers.

Important! Attach the top panel with 4cm screws.

  • Now you need to cut two dowels at a 45-degree angle. The dowels we used were too large in diameter, so we recommend using 2 cm. First of all, you need to cut out the back bar, and starting from it, adjust the size of the protrusions on the sides.
  • Glue the finished dowels to the frame with wood glue and wait until completely dry.
  • In order to fill the gaps around the dowels and in the places of their contact with the base of the product, it is better to use an acrylic sealant.

Important! Also at this stage, you can start painting the resulting structure, but we recommend that you do the finishing work at the very end.

Step 3 Installing the Guides

Now you need to install the guides for the drawers of your nightstand. For this you will need the following:

  1. 4 sets of guides.
  2. 4 boards for the back panel measuring 34.3 by 13.5 cm.
  3. 8 boards for side panels of drawers measuring 45 x 13.5 cm.

Having prepared everything you need, proceed as follows:

  • First, make a markup. To do this, use a pencil and a metal ruler.

Important! At this point, mark all sections for all drawers.

  • Now, armed with a screwdriver, fix the guides on the side panel, periodically checking the markings.
  • Place a sheet of plywood under the side panels of the drawer, pull them out and install the rails.
  • After the guides are fixed on all side walls, make two more connections by first removing the side panels.
  • Slide the side walls back into the frame, thereby checking the installation accuracy and smoothness of the guides.

Step 4. Connecting the fragments of boxes and installing facade panels

At this point, the side panels of your nightstand drawers should be completely finished - all that remains is to attach the remaining panels.

A do-it-yourself nightstand is often made, but this concept is very diverse. This piece of furniture can be a product that will stand by the bed, another possible option is a place for a tea mug and newspapers in the living room. However, making this design yourself is quite simple. To do this, you must first prepare certain tools and materials, as well as familiarize yourself with the process technology. Only in this way will you be able to successfully complete the work, and the product will please the eyes of the household and will be easy to use. The only thing that you may not have to do yourself is cutting the material.

Preparatory work

If you will make a bedside table with your own hands, then you need to prepare the following tools: a drill driver, a set of bits, a cutter, a tape measure, an iron, a pencil, sandpaper, a carpentry tool, a set of drills. The best solution would be to use a cordless screwdriver, which is true if the farm also has a hammer drill. Drills should be selected according to the tree, but as for the set of bits, it should have a hexagon for confirmations. Be sure to prepare a right angle with a measuring ruler. A dry rag should also be on hand. Due to the fact that sawing chipboard will be carried out in the workshop, you should expect that you yourself or with outside help will have to transport sheets whose dimensions are 1830x2448 mm. These dimensions are the smallest. That is why experts recommend saving on edge gluing.

Today, its melamine variety is sold, the thickness of which is 0.5 mm. Due to the fact that this element has an adhesive base, it will be quite simple to install it. To do this, attach it to the desired end and iron it with a heated iron. A dry rag will help reinforce the hot edge more firmly to achieve maximum grip. Excess should be removed with a blunt knife, processing the edges with sandpaper.

Detailing

When a bedside table is made with your own hands, it is important to familiarize yourself with the details. However, the interior content may vary. Everything will depend on the desired appearance and functionality, as well as the budget that you plan to spend on fittings. The details of the simplest and cheapest piece of furniture will be described below, but the skids and facades will be made of chipboard. As for the side parts, they will need two pieces. In the first case, the size of the element will be 772x500 mm, while the bottom and shelf should have dimensions equal to 368x502 m. There should be two upper bars, but only one base, the dimensions of these components are 368x100 mm. It is important not to forget about the side parts of the box, there should be two of these elements, and their dimensions are 480x110. It will not be possible to create a structure without back and front walls, there should also be two of them, and the dimensions are 334x110 mm. The facade is limited to 150x395 mm, and the cabinet door has dimensions equal to 515x395 mm. The above dimensions are for chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm. The worktop must be kitchen and its thickness is 28 mm, while the length and width are 525x400 mm. When making a nightstand with your own hands, it is important to know not only how to stick the edge, but also how to prepare the parts for assembly.

Preparation of consumables

A confirmation can act as a fastener, for which it will be necessary to drill holes. Their diameter should be 8 mm, while when the holes are located in the end, the diameter must be reduced to 5 mm.

Hardware preparation

Even if you plan to purchase an inexpensive fastener option, then this should be taken seriously. Confirmations must be purchased in the amount of 22 pieces, their dimensions are 5x70 mm. The plinth and tie bars will be installed on one confirmation, each of which should be located on one side. Self-tapping screws must be purchased in the amount of one package, dimensions - 4x30 mm. They will be needed later for other chores around the house, but in the case of a cabinet, they are used to screw the countertop to the slats. As for the facade, the self-tapping screw in this case is installed to the front wall of the box. In this case, the fasteners must be located inside so that it is not visible. You will also need self-tapping screws with dimensions of 4x16 mm, they must also be purchased in the amount of 1 package. With their help, you will strengthen the hardboard and hinges, it is important to purchase fasteners with a hidden hat. Find suitable furniture hinges in the amount of 2 pieces. The cutter has a diameter of 35 mm, the hinges must therefore be suitable. Optionally, you should purchase decorative furniture handles that are installed on the facade. Additionally, you can get screws for handles, the length of which is 35 mm.

Cabinet making process

When creating a bedside table with your own hands, the photo of which is presented in the article, you can use one sheet of chipboard, it will make 2.5 products. The assembly is very simple, in addition to the sidewalls from the bottom, you can screw them which are simply called "hooves". They help to establish a curbstone on an uneven floor. If it is made by you, then you can purchase adjustable legs, which can be found in a furniture fittings store. First, the master makes a selection for the loops. It should be remembered that the step from the edge of the facade to the central part of the hole should be 22 mm. For hinges with fitting dimensions of 35 mm, markings should be made at the top and bottom of the door. This is usually done at the level of 80 mm, but this parameter cannot be called critical. The next step will be the installation of a facade with twisted hinges, then everything is strengthened to the body. When making a do-it-yourself TV stand, you can use the same dimensions, as they are great, while it is important to remember that when assembling the box and drawer, you need to check the geometry of the resulting parallelepiped. Otherwise, the product will turn out to be lopsided, and the facades will be impossible to open or close.

Making a bedside table or cabinet for shoes

In order to make the design for a bed or for shoes more stable, you can make it in the form of a trapezoid, while the product is assembled on dowels. One of the side ends of the bottom needs to be cut down, this applies to covers and sticks. In this case, an angle of 10° should be used. An electric saw and guides are perfect for this. At the next stage, on the cut ends, you need to select the grooves for the keys, while placing a flat board under the cutter. The latter, including the workpiece and workbench, should be compressed with a clamp. Before you start assembling the cabinet, all fittings should be temporarily fixed, this will allow you to determine its exact location.

The sequence of work

When a nightstand is made for the left side wall, you first need to attach the top cover using dowels. At the next stage, the right side panel is strengthened, and the structure must be in a supine position. As soon as the glue sets, the back wall can be fixed to the body. The surface must be sanded, before painting the edges are varnished. After the cabinet is turned upside down, you can screw the rollers to the corners, each of them must be fixed with two washers and nuts. When it is made with your own hands, you can be guided by the same technology, while on the door you have to mark places for 50 mm from the lower and upper ends. As for the side edge, 22 mm must be retreated from it. To install the hinges, you need to drill holes at the intersections of the lines. The master retreats from the top cover by about 3 mm, this will further ensure easy closing and opening of the door.

Final works

If you are thinking about how to make a bedside table with your own hands, then in the next step you need to assemble for this, grooves should be provided for this at the bottom of the three sides. The ends of the back and front walls are sawn off at an angle of 10 °. It is important to remember that the sides of the box must be butted to each other. Roll-out mechanisms should be installed at the same stage, it is best to use roller guides, as they are easy to install and durable in operation.

It will perfectly fit into any interior and will be a good addition to the bedroom set. Following her example, you can make kitchen cabinets for storing household utensils, and in a larger version, the cabinet can easily replace a wardrobe closet.

Its design is as simple as possible and is perfect for a novice master who is just starting to master the furniture craft.

In addition, the cabinet is made of natural materials - laminated pine panels and pine boards, which is a rarity in our time, but working with such material is a real pleasure.

The author left the wood untreated. Subsequently, it can be painted, varnished, tinted with stain or decorative oil - there are a dime a dozen options, and this is a great opportunity for your imagination.

For work you will need the following materials and tools:

1. Materials:
- laminated pine and pine board:
1. two parts 455x700 mm (sides);
2. two parts 400x455 mm (top and base);
3. eight parts 70x400 mm (for boxes);
4. four parts 170x435 mm (front panels of drawers);
5. eight parts 135x450 mm (for the side walls of the boxes);
6. four parts 135x343 mm (the back walls of the boxes are made of boards 16 mm thick.);
7. four parts 340x430 mm (for the base of boxes made of 16 mm material.);
- four sets of sliding systems for drawers;
- 1800 mm pine stick with a diameter of approximately 25 mm;
- 16 mm screws;
- 40 mm screws;
- glue for wood;
- a sealant that is suitable for working with wood (for example, acrylic);
- varnish for wood (optional);
- composition for staining on a water, alcohol or oil basis (the author used the tone "Antique oak");
- the cloth.

2.Tools:
- miter saw, electric jigsaw, or wood saw with a fine tooth;
- screwdriver;
- an electric drill with a drill for wood;
- grinder with nozzles with coarse and fine sandpaper;
- construction roulette;
- pencil;
- square;
- paint brushes.

Step 1: preparing materials.

The latter are very convenient in the manufacture of furniture, since the individual boards are already glued together into a shield and have a pre-prepared perfectly flat surface. You do not have to do the meticulous work of gluing wood, and it will be much easier to attach large parts to each other.

Boards for the production of furniture, even in the domestic conditions of a home workshop, must be pre-planed so that they have the same thickness.

Sand the planed pine board with a grinder, first using a nozzle with fine-grained sandpaper at 240 and only then with fine-grained sandpaper at 120.

Mark the parts according to our list and cut them out using the tool that is most suitable for you: a miter saw, a jigsaw, or a regular hacksaw for wood with a fine and sharp tooth.

In the process of marking, use a square so that all corners are perfectly even and are 90 0 С.

Step 2: Assembling the cabinet.

Proceed to the most important stage - the assembly of the product. In order to prevent the wood from splitting during screwing, holes must be drilled at the attachment points.

At home, an electric drill is most often used for these purposes, but the author advises purchasing a special machine that makes countersunk holes at the required angle. Such a machine allows you to make furniture without any visible joints. In the photo below you can see what such a machine looks like.

So, mark and make holes in the places of the intended connections and assemble the cabinet frame as shown in the photo.

Please note that the opening for each of the drawers must be 150mm high.

If you are using a pine board of greater or lesser thickness, non-living 20 mm, recalculate the dimensions of the cabinet details.

The author, we must pay tribute to him, originally processed the upper edges of the cabinet, using a natural pine stick for this. He could not find a stick with a diameter of 20 mm, so he used a stick with a diameter of 25 mm. It turned out to be a little big, but the overall picture is not spoiled.

Mark and cut the edge sticks at a 45° angle and secure them in place with an adhesive like liquid nails. You can also use wood glue, but the first option will add strength to your product.

The author will also fill all the cracks and corners with acrylic sealant. It is less susceptible to mechanical damage than the usual wood putty.

Step 3: Mark out drawers and install sliding systems.

Before proceeding with the installation of drawers and sliding systems, mark the cabinets. Use a metal ruler for this, following the example of the author, as shown in the photo below. So you get a smooth, perfectly parallel line.

Fasten the sliding systems along the previously drawn line using screws and a screwdriver. Fix the edges first, and then the middle part of the strips.

Step 4: making boxes.

The author used 16 mm thick material for the manufacture of boxes, simply because he was at hand in sufficient quantities. However, the boxes are heavy. Therefore, he advises using thinner and lighter material such as plywood where possible.

Proceed with the installation of the remaining elements of the sliding systems to the side parts of the drawers. It is much more convenient to do this until the moment of their final assembly.

Once the hardware is in place, assemble the drawers using the parts from our list. The author smeared the gaps at the junction of parts inside the box with sealant.

Step 5: protective and decorative wood treatment and finishing touches.

As a protective and decorative coating, he used stain in the form of a gel tone "Antique Oak". It not only tints the wood, but also protects it from adverse external factors such as humidity, ultraviolet radiation, as well as some chemical influences.

Clean the cabinet of dust and apply the staining compound with a paint brush or in any other convenient way. If the tone is not deep enough and does not match what is indicated on the label, repeat the procedure. Remove the remaining stain that has not been absorbed with a dry, clean cloth. Wait until the cabinet is completely dry.

At this stage, you can use a water-based wood varnish in order to additionally protect the wood from mechanical damage. It can be applied in several layers, lightly sanding each layer. Thus, each new layer of varnish penetrates and reliably adheres to the previous one.

You can also varnish the inside of the drawers. This will make it easy to clean the cabinet as it gets dirty. This is especially true if you are making furniture for the kitchen.

Finally secure the front panels of the drawers by flipping the cabinet on its back. To do this, place pieces of non-thick material on the reverse side under the box to push them out a little.

A do-it-yourself nightstand is one of the simplest products that is available to everyone. To create it, you do not need a large amount of materials, tools or special experience in creating furniture. You only need to have a drawing, an approximate diagram of the product, and preferably ideas on how to make it unique.

Bedside tables are usually installed in a room or hallway. Depending on the purpose of the furniture, various drawings are used, internal shelves are made of different heights.

For example, to store shoes, you need 1-2 shelves, and more levels can be made in the cabinets for the room, since books, magazines, CDs, cosmetics, and other small things will be stored there.

There are different designs of bedside tables for a room or hallway, they can be divided into several types:

  • open;
  • with doors;
  • with drawers;
  • combined.

The product can be made of chipboard or wood. Boards are a more reliable, durable option, it should be used if you want a do-it-yourself nightstand to be durable and last for many years. But these materials will cost a little more than particle board.

Required materials and instructions for creating

Before you make a nightstand with your own hands, you need to prepare the following tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • mallet, hammer;
  • jigsaw or saw;
  • angle grinder or sandpaper (if a bedside table is made of wood);
  • furniture conductor.

Nightstand for hallway

In the hallway, a nightstand of the following type is well suited:

This is one of the easiest options. The drawing represents a generally accepted standard. If you need a narrower or taller cabinet, the dimensions can be changed.

This product will fit well into the hallway, due to its compactness, convenience. In the lower compartment, you can store shoes, and in the drawer - things that you need to have at hand when leaving the house (keys, dog leash, etc.).

Materials:

  • boards or chipboard;
  • plywood for the drawer, plywood or fiberboard for the back wall;
  • hardware;
  • dowels;
  • pens;
  • loops;
  • furniture glue or PVA;
  • brushes;
  • paint and/or varnish.

Operating procedure:

  1. Procurement of parts
    • For side walls, it is better to use boards with a width of 500 mm. If there are none, you can make parts from narrower boards. It is necessary to cut 4 blanks 800 mm long and 250 mm wide. They can be glued together with wood glue. To do this, the blanks are smeared with the composition, clamped in a vice or clamp for several hours. A simpler option is to connect them with transverse jumpers.
    • Holes and markings are made on the walls. If there is a shelf in the lower compartment of the bedside table, then 4 dowels can be driven in to install it - 2 on each side. It is also necessary to make holes for the dowels from the bottom, top and top end. You can immediately fix the hinges on which the doors and drawer rails will be installed.
    • Make countertops, bottom shelf ("floor" cabinets) and doors.
    • Make a plywood box.
    • If the bedside table in the hallway is made of boards, it is necessary to open them with varnish.
  2. Collect all details. Fastenings are made through dowels: a little glue is fed into the hole, a dowel is hammered into it. After that, the parts are fastened together with light blows of a mallet. So that there are no scratches on the wooden cabinet, it is better to beat through a board or a thick piece of rubber. You can also assemble the cabinet with the help of hardware.
  3. Making the back wall. A sheet of plywood or fiberboard, the dimensions of which correspond to the width and height of the cabinet, are stuffed at the back with nails.

It is worth remembering that the dimensions, diagrams and drawings in this case are only a convention. The main thing is to understand the general principles of the structure of this furniture, work on its creation.

If you have ideas about how to improve the product or make it more original, it is worth putting them into practice. If ideas do not come, then you can safely use the standards.

Cabinet in the corner

If you need ideas on how to save space, you should pay attention to the corner bedside table. This product will allow you to store things, but does not take up much space. Do-it-yourself corner cabinet for a room or hallway is done in the same way as a regular one: the list of materials and work is completely identical. The only difference is that other drawings are used.

A wide do-it-yourself bedside table is very convenient for the room - the corner model is usually made to install a TV, game console, speakers, etc. CDs and other accessories can be stored in the lower compartments. A narrow cabinet will fit well into a small hallway. Here are drawings and ideas for various cabinets in a room or hallway:

Even small elements and, at first glance, insignificant ideas for a bedside table with your own hands will help to make original, exclusive furniture for a room or hallway. The main thing is not to be afraid to fantasize and try new things.

A bedside table in a bedroom or any other room is a necessary attribute of furniture. You can buy a ready-made cabinet along with a set of other furniture, but, as a rule, its cost is unreasonably high. To create an original, individual piece of furniture with minimal costs, you can try your hand at self-manufacturing cabinets. To have an idea of how to make a bedside table with your own hands, you need to have information about the necessary materials and tools, as well as step-by-step work.

When making a nightstand for the first time, you need to start with the simplest option. This is a versatile wooden cabinet that is suitable for placement in a bedroom, office or living room. Other options, such as a TV stand, will require more time and effort to make.

Bedside tables made of solid wood can have different sizes

Tools

To make a bedside table with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • jigsaw;
  • end saw;
  • Sander;
  • roulette;
  • sandpaper;
  • pencil;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • Screwdriver Set.

Tools

In addition, you will need a cutter for loops with a diameter of 35 mm, a set of bits with a hexagon for confirmations, the diameter of the holes for which should be at least 8 mm, when located at the end - 5 mm. You will need an iron to glue the edges on the end parts of the wooden parts. The edge can be bought at any hardware store, fitting it to the color of the lumber from which the cabinet is made. It has an adhesive side, which is applied to the end, and ironed on top with a hot iron through a dry rag or any rag. The excess edge is removed with a knife.

In addition to the above tools, you will need a carpenter's "right angle" with a measuring ruler. To connect the shelves and side walls, you can use a special tool for installing dowel joints. This tool helps to drill holes in the side shelves with a drill along the installed dowels. To do this, pre-drill holes in the ends and install dowels. On the reverse side of the shelves, markings are made in order not to confuse them during assembly. Then the shelves are applied to the attachment points, after which holes are made.

materials

To understand how to make bedside tables with your own hands in a standard size, you need to know what you need:

  • 4 panels of chipboard or other material measuring 45x70 cm for the manufacture of the top, bottom and side parts;
  • 8 boards for making a frame 7x40 cm in size;
  • 4 panels of chipboard or other material for the manufacture of boxes measuring 17x43.5 cm.
  • dowels 2x1.8 cm and screws 4x1.6 cm;
  • if confirmations with a size of 5x70 mm are used, they must be purchased in the amount of 22 pieces;
  • joiner's glue;
  • acrylic sealant;
  • wood stain.

It is worth preparing all the elements in advance

The choice of material for the manufacture of cabinets varies depending on the budget. Chipboard is considered the most low-cost material.

When choosing chipboard as a bedside table material, it is necessary to pay attention to the degree of its moisture content, which can lead to distortion of the finished product. The cabinet can also be made from natural wood, MDF, plywood or laminate. For the manufacture of dowels, cranial bars, wooden guides, frame drawers, countertops, it is recommended to use hardwoods - oak, beech or birch. The thickness of the boards for the manufacture of the frame is from 12 to 40 mm, depending on the functionality of the bedside table, its load. The back side of the structure is usually made of chipboard with a thickness of 4-6 mm, if a serious load is not expected on the bottom of the boxes, they can also be made of this material. To finish the material, you can use a self-adhesive film in the color and texture that matches the rest of the furniture in the room, covered with acrylic lacquer. For natural wood, stain or colorless impregnation is used.

If the cabinet is made with drawers with your own hands, you need to purchase special fittings for them - guide mechanisms. As an alternative to guides, as more affordable, L-shaped planks made of wood can serve, which are attached to the side walls of the bedside table from the inside in those places where the drawers will be.

If the cabinet is equipped with a door, it is necessary to prepare hinges for their fastening. Elevator mechanisms are used to ensure the opening of the door by pressing. In order to prevent the door from opening spontaneously, you can equip the nightstand with a magnetic latch.

As supporting fittings, you can use stationary or height-adjustable legs, as well as wheels. Convenient are the wheels with a bearing mechanism that can spin in different directions. Such fittings are useful for a nightstand in the living room. For doors and drawers, you also need to purchase handles for opening. The number of handles, hinges, guides depends on the number of drawers and doors.

Do-it-yourself metal fittings necessary for making a bedside table

Manufacturing steps

Before you make a cabinet, you need to decide on its shape and size. It can be a cabinet with a door, several drawers, with an open shelf, or a combined type. Then you need to draw up drawings that will help you make accurate blanks.

Part preparation

When the schemes with the exact dimensions applied are ready, you can start producing blanks for the cabinet. First, a sketch of cardboard blanks is applied to a tree, then a contour is cut out exactly with the dimensions applied. An inaccuracy in the size of the cut out elements can bring all the work to nothing. A high-quality saw cut of wooden parts will be provided by an electric jigsaw. Then all parts are processed with a sander to ensure smooth edges. If the design is not planned to be decorated with a self-adhesive film, at this stage it is worth treating all the details of the bedside table with stain.

After processing the cut parts, you can start drilling holes for fasteners and accessories. When sampling for hinges, it must be taken into account that the distance from the edge of the facade to the central part of the hole should be 22 mm. For hinges with a landing size of 35 mm, markings are made on the top and bottom of the door. To fix the shelf, you need to drive 4 dowels onto the sides of the cabinet (two on each of the sidewalls). Holes for dowels are made on the upper, lower part of the wall and on the upper end. If a do-it-yourself cabinet is made for a sink, a hole of a suitable diameter is cut out on the countertop where the sink will be fixed.

All necessary holes are prepared in the details

Assembly

Before you make a cabinet with your own hands, you need to assemble its wooden frame: slats 7 cm wide are fastened together with screws or screws, forming a rectangular frame. The corners of the frame must be straight, this is checked with the appropriate measuring tool. Then the upper part of the nightstand - the tabletop is attached to the rectangular frame. For reliability, the attachment points are additionally coated with carpentry glue. After assembling the upper part, the sidewalls are assembled, last of all, the back and front walls.

decoration

A bedside table with your own hands can become an original decoration of the room. To do this, it can be designed in various styles. For example, you can create a classic-style bedside table if you use paint in pastel shades (yellow, sand, pale pink, light green). At the same time, the ends of the pedestal are made in white, and the color of individual elements, including the top and the door. On the door you need to attach wooden or plastic moldings, and on the countertop - a piece of glass or transparent plastic cut to size. Moldings must be painted in a color that differs in tone from the color of the facade.

When decorating a bedside table, it is necessary to take into account the style and decoration of the entire room so that the product does not stand out from the overall design.

Instead of decorating the finished product, you can use the original ideas for making bedside tables from improvised materials:

  • bedside table from old suitcases: for this you need an old suitcase that is attached to the frame with legs. The outer case can be painted or decorated with decoupage technique.
  • console from an old table - for this you need an old coffee table, from which half is sawn off. The second half is attached to the wall, painted in a bright color. In addition, you can use an old desk drawer by simply attaching it to the wall - you get an unusual hanging cabinet.
  • a small wooden ladder, a barrel, a chair, a stack of books tied with a belt - all this can be used as bedside tables.
