Individual construction in small and large cities, as well as beyond them, has recently become especially popular. Naturally, every developer has many questions about the use of certain materials. One of the main problems is deciding which double-glazed windows are best suited for a private home.

It has become fashionable to move away from the traditional dimensions of window openings and make them much larger. The trend is panoramic glazing of a country house and floor-to-ceiling windows, which often serve as access to a terrace or garden. Such options for window designs are inevitably forced to take on a share of the responsibility for preserving heat in the house and the owners’ belongings.

What to look for when choosing PVC windows

It is necessary to take care of the correct filling of window openings at the design stage, when it comes to new construction. If you plan to replace windows during a major renovation or reconstruction of a country house, you must try to take into account the main factors.

  • Load-bearing wall material. Wood buildings shrink over many years, so the window opening must be framed with a special structure.
  • The quality of the metal-plastic profile, its design and thickness. It is better to trust well-known manufacturers and brands, without being tempted by the cheap prices of unscrupulous manufacturers.
  • The design of the double-glazed window, the thickness of the glass and the number of panels.
  • Technical capabilities and quality indicators of fittings.
  • Availability of necessary options for more convenient operation of window units.

And one more important point. You must order the production of plastic windows and their installation from one company. If controversial issues arise, it will be easier to resolve them. And then about everything in more detail.

Type of profile and plastic

Window profiles come in different thicknesses and can consist of 2, 3, 4 or 5 chambers. The most popular are three- and five-chamber. In cross-section, the profile is a complex spatial structure in which voids alternate with partitions.

The number of voids determines the name of the product. To strengthen the structure, it is reinforced with metal plates.

Manufacturers who are not too concerned about their own reputation use recycled plastics to make window frames. Such products have a matte grayish appearance. They can be used for outbuildings, but it is better to install plastic windows made of high-quality PVC with a glossy surface in the cottage.

Regarding the thickness of the profile, it must be said that where it is warm and quiet all year round, you should not overpay and install five-chamber window units. Three-chamber ones are quite suitable; they will serve with dignity for many years. But in cold climates, with strong winds, on a noisy street or near highways, it is better to equip your home with reinforced profiles.

Types of double-glazed windows

Before deciding which double-glazed windows are best installed in a private home, you need to get acquainted with the existing types of these products. In essence, a double-glazed window is a translucent window filling. It can be one-, two-, three-chamber depending on the number of glass panels:

The figure above shows a glazing option with increased sound insulation properties. In it, the middle blade is located further from the one that is placed on the outside. The increased size of the air gap significantly improves thermal and sound insulation.

The basic structure of all double-glazed windows is the same. It consists of parallel glass panes, hermetically sealed in a spacer frame. A desiccant is poured into the frame cavity, and the outer side of the structure is covered with bitumen or other sealant. There may be air or inert gas inside the chamber. The difference lies in the number of canvases and chambers, thickness dimensions and quality of raw materials used:

  1. Single-chamber double-glazed windows in the standard version are two glasses with a thickness of 4 mm with a distance between them of 6-8 mm. Variations of these values are possible. This type of glazing is suitable for loggias, balconies, offices and private houses in the southern climate zone. Single-chamber glazing is also installed in country houses with seasonal residence.
  2. Double-glazed windows are the most popular type of window structures, which are actively used in central Russia for installation in residential premises. Various types of structures use glass with a thickness of 4 to 6 mm with various combinations of distances between them.
  3. The three-chamber SP is installed mainly in places where it is too cold or very noisy. Plastic windows with this type of glazing are heavy in weight, so they are suitable for thick walls with good load-bearing capacity. This is an excellent option for a country house in the northern part of Russia.

All models of double-glazed windows can be equipped with ordinary glass or coated with a special impact-resistant film. The double-glazed window frame can be decorated with wood or painted in any color (a wide range of colors is offered: from standard brown to completely “exotic” pink or green), which is especially important for the implementation of individual facade or interior projects of private houses.

Which windows to choose for a country house

It is impossible to say unequivocally which plastic windows are best suited for glazing a cottage. Each specific case is considered separately and when choosing, it is necessary to take into account all factors in a complex:

  • structural and planning solution of the house, load-bearing capacity and material of its walls;
  • building location;
  • quality and technical characteristics of window profiles;
  • design and properties of the glass unit, as well as the glass used;
  • appearance of the window block, its colors;
  • quality of fittings and the presence of additional functions (mosquito net, ventilation valve).

It is better to discuss all the nuances when placing an order. In conclusion, we suggest listening to expert advice on choosing glazing for a country house in this video:

Recently, orders for the construction of country houses have often begun to arrive.

Along with the flow of requests to build your own home, requests for non-standard architectural projects have increased.

One of the most expressive details of any building are the windows - their size, color, shape.

The abundance of original fillings of window openings, and the very shape of such openings sometimes simply amazes the imagination. Everyone wants to use glass to make their home the complete opposite of a gloomy city apartment.

I came to the conclusion that it is easier to prepare my future customers by writing an article and explaining some of the issues in it, so as not to repeat myself every time I meet a new client.

The right choice of windows for a cottage

Depending on the material from which the walls of the house are built, you need to choose what kind of filling the window openings should be.

All buildings (except monolithic ones) exhibit slight shrinkage immediately after construction. It is included in the tolerances and is taken into account during further finishing.

But the shrinkage that wooden structures give, and the length of time during which it will occur, is difficult to calculate. In addition, a tree can play simply because of a change in weather. For this reason, it is necessary to protect everything that may suffer from the effects of this phenomenon.

First of all, door and window openings are subject to changes in geometric dimensions.

Some owners of new houses, who did not listen to the recommendations of experienced builders, may notice this by the unexpected appearance of a crack on the double-glazed window.

You can protect the window from damage using a casing or frame, which becomes a buffer between the frame and the window opening. For a house made of wood, the installation of such a compensator is not only recommended - it is a necessity, because it will allow the window frame to move, avoiding the loads created by a walking window opening.

House made of glass

Living sunlight, a transparent wall - these are the conditions that many customers set when developing a project for their future home.

Architects sometimes draw such projects that bringing them to the construction stage is quite a difficult task.

Particularly interesting and responsible for us is the translation of an architectural picture depicting a glass wall into a real device of a reliable and safe window structure.

In this case, you have to choose which material will be the most optimal for the manufacture of panoramic glazing.

I can say with confidence that every window manufacturer will insist that the best option is to order panoramic glazing only from the material with which he works.

Trying to be objective, I will say that the most advantageous in this case is glass in an aluminum frame.

Aluminum facade systems have long been used in construction, and on an industrial scale. Their design features are tailored specifically to large glazing areas. Aluminum structures differ from others in their ease of installation and ease of maintenance.

A positive role in the choice of this material is played by the fact that the aluminum profile does not catch the eye, favorably emphasizing the beauty of the panoramic glazing. Due to their technical characteristics, aluminum racks can withstand significant loads despite their small thickness.

Separately, it is necessary to say about the choice of a system for opening windows and doors in a glass wall.

In addition to the simplified folding option for ventilating the room, panoramic glazing has parallel-sliding and vertical-sliding sashes. Their difference is in the method of opening and in price. If the fittings are produced by a reputable company, then the reliability of its operation does not depend on the type of opening. In comparison of prices, parallel-sliding has an advantage.

What glass thickness is best to choose?

The ability of glass not to change its characteristics, in particular, to withstand wind and dynamic loads, depends on its size and thickness.

The larger the size of the solid glazing, the more carefully you need to calculate the thickness of the glass - a parameter on which the reliability and safety of the entire structure depends.

For glazing an opening with an area of up to 2.5 m2, the use of 4 mm glass is allowed. A further increase in the glazing area must be calculated in accordance with special technical documentation.

Standard solutions for this problem are as follows:

  • if the glass area is about three meters, its thickness is taken to be at least 6 mm;
  • a further increase in quadrature can occur with a simultaneous increase in thickness up to 8 mm.

To some extent, the strength of a double-glazed window depends not only on the thickness of the glass, but also on the number of glasses in the double-glazed window. The more there are, the better the stability of the entire glass unit.

SPO– double-glazed windows, consisting of two glasses forming an air chamber, have the advantage of being lightweight, but do not retain heat well.

SPD– double-glazed windows of three glasses, in which there are already two air chambers. Due to the additional glass, they are 50% heavier, but do an excellent job of energy saving.

However, progress does not stand still, and the designers have combined convenient weight and high-quality protection from external temperature influences using energy-saving glass in a single-chamber package. This is glass with a special coating that effectively reflects both heat from the room, preventing it from escaping outside, and the entry of cold or, conversely, excess heat into the room.

One disadvantage of such glass is its high price.

A much cheaper option is a single-chamber package with argon gas pumped into the chamber - it resists heat transfer much better than air. If such a double-glazed window consists of energy-saving glass and is made with the addition of argon to the chamber, then it is no worse than its two-chamber counterpart.

High-quality fittings are the basis for the performance of the window opening mechanism

Your pleasure from looking at your panoramic glazing or just at new windows can very quickly disappear because of such a seemingly trifle as fittings.

A stuck window sash that won’t close can cause many unpleasant minutes until a repairman arrives and explains that a small part of the mechanism is to blame. Surely you will hear a reproach from him that you chose low-quality fittings, and now it will take time and money to replace them.

You need to ask in advance which manufacturer of handles, hinges, trunnions, side clamps and other elements of hardware are considered truly reliable.

The main indicators of quality parts of the window or door opening mechanism are:

wear resistance. The unit of measurement for this indicator is a cycle, which is equal to one opening and closing of the window. In the technical characteristics of the fittings, its service life is measured by the number of cycles. For a standard window, the opening mechanism must operate for at least 10,000 cycles.

ease of maintenance. It may happen that when opening a window, you accidentally turn the handle, and two opening positions will work at once - tilting and turning. Without special skills and trying to solve the problem by force, you can disable the mechanism. It’s good if the fittings on your window are popular, and you can easily find such a spare part. But if it is exclusive, then you will have to change the entire harness.

anti-corrosion. Since the parts of the opening mechanism are located at the temperature limit and are exposed to humidity, condensation is their main enemy. If the metal from which the fittings are made is stainless steel, then there is nothing to fear. If it is steel with a protective coating, then its lifetime is short-lived.

performance. A window with good fittings should be easy to open not only immediately after installation, while all parts are lubricated, but also for a long time after. By the way, it is necessary to periodically lubricate any fittings, regardless of quality.

There are additional requirements for special anti-burglary window fittings. They vary slightly depending on which of the six possible security classes the window covering belongs to.

Changes in the anti-burglary version affected the shape of the trunnion and the design of the strike plates. This was done to eliminate the possibility of opening the window from the outside. Windows with special fittings comply with the Western safety standard ENV 1627-1630 and are marked in accordance with its requirements.

High security windows

Anti-burglary fittings are effective when they try to open the window sash, and are useless if the burglar simply breaks the double-glazed window.

To protect against such barbarism, roller shutters were designed, which are installed directly on the window profile, and it does not matter what material (wood, aluminum or PVC) the window is made of.

Unlike roller shutters, which are also designed to protect window and door openings, roller shutters are not conspicuous because they are not mounted on the facade, but in the window opening or in the openings of window sashes.

At the same time, this advantage of windows with roller shutters when viewed from the room becomes a disadvantage, because it reduces the light opening, covering part of it with its guides.

Dormer windows are a separate issue

The requirements for windows that are installed in attic enclosing structures have their own characteristics.

Of course, their dimensions and installation location are agreed with the customer, but there are conditions that cannot be neglected:

The length of one window or a vertical row of windows cannot be more than half the length of the roof slope on which it is installed;

To let in the required minimum of daylight, the total square footage of the windows must be at least 10% of the area of the room in which it is located;

The lower border of the window opening should be at such a level that a standing person can see not only the sky, but also the street.

Window fillings in attic structures play the role of a roof element and are exposed to particularly intense rainfall. Therefore, the comfort and the very possibility of living in the room depend on the tightness of the windows and their frames.

Particular attention is paid to thermal insulation, because all the warm air collects at the top under the roof near the attic windows.

Acoustic properties are also an important detail: heavy rain or hail can cause some discomfort to the resident of the attic space. Good windows should have a sound insulation index exceeding 25 decibels.

Installation of a roof window

If you have not yet encountered skylights, then you probably do not know about the problem that constantly plagues windows of this type. This problem is the appearance of condensation due to the difference in temperatures outside and inside the room.

This unpleasant phenomenon can be combated using air valves installed in the window profile.

Such a valve, thanks to the ventilation holes, disperses the warm air collecting under the window and prevents it from condensing on the cold glass.

If there is no additional ventilation in the room, this solution is practically the only correct one to eliminate the problem of fogging of glass windows in the attic.

Since a roof window is usually installed at an angle, the options for its opening mechanisms are very different from the mechanisms of conventional vertical windows. They are:

Opening relative to the central axis between the sides of the frame;

With opening relative to a displaced axis between the sides of the frame;

With the ability to open in two positions: relative to the central and upper axes of the frame;

Opening outward (like a regular window) relative to the side, top or bottom axes of the frame.

PVC profile windows

We are unlikely to resolve the eternal dispute among manufacturers about which material – PVC or wood – is a better window. But you can and should consider the pros and cons of a plastic window.

PVC windows are cheaper than high-quality wooden ones. When the window openings are filled with a large square footage, the savings from installing plastic are significant.

The PVC profile is not afraid of temperature changes and high humidity.

PVC windows, apart from periodic lubrication of the fittings, do not require additional maintenance.

Plastic windows with properly selected glazing and additional chambers in the profile do an excellent job of maintaining warmth and silence in the room.

Options for the internal structure of the PVC profile

To efficiently perform its main function - a reliable boundary between heat and cold, between noise and silence - a three-chamber profile was made into a four-chamber, five-chamber and even six-chamber profile. Thanks to this, not only the sound and heat insulation properties have changed significantly, but also the load-bearing capacity of the profile itself has improved.

Windows with a six-chamber profile are especially in demand in cold climate zones or in areas adjacent to noisy industrial enterprises.

PVC structure

The cost of the final product - a plastic window - largely depends on the quality of the plastic itself.

It is no secret that when the boom in installing PVC windows was just beginning, poor quality profiles were rarely encountered. Now quite a few large and small enterprises have appeared for the production of PVC window profiles. In the fight against competitors, reducing the cost of their products, many of them began to use inexpensive raw materials or low-quality additives.

A low-quality profile can be easily identified by its matte surface, which may be stained by hand touches.

But that's not the worst thing. It is much worse that such PVC will quickly begin to turn yellow and release harmful substances, especially if exposed to sunlight.

Ventilation in window profiles

The undoubted advantage of plastic windows is their tightness. But if there is no air movement in the room, that is, additional ventilation, then this advantage turns into a number of disadvantages.

Not only do the windows begin to become covered with condensation, but mold and mildew also appear in the room itself. This problem is quite serious and is not always solved by a micro-ventilation system built into the windows.

A more radical method is to insert a special air valve into the profile. Such a device can be equipped with a special air dispenser that supplies a certain amount of fresh air, calculated for the volume of a particular room.

Laminated plastic

The standard white color of plastic cannot be used for all architectural solutions, so a new direction has emerged - laminating plastic to match various types of wood.

At the manufacturing plant, white plastic is covered with a special film, which not only changes color and texture, but also has protective properties.

The ability to play with color, choosing windows to match or contrast with the color of the facade, has sharply increased the popularity of PVC profiles.

Make the right choice

Windows in any home not only play the role of an enclosing structure, they also serve as a bridge for communication with the outside world.

For a private home, the appearance and functionality of window fillings is a special issue.

All owners of their country homes want their windows to let in more light, less heat and enough fresh air. At the same time, they must protect against penetration into the room and last long enough.

If the person building a house does not have strict financial restrictions, then it is preferable to choose windows with a five-chamber profile and a double-glazed unit consisting of three glasses.

Among the proposals of manufacturers of window systems you can find three-chamber double-glazed windows. There are no words - they retain heat perfectly. But the fact that, due to the weight of such a package, the use of special reinforced fittings for the opening mechanism is required, scares off potential buyers.

In order for the window to fully respond to all the tasks assigned to it, the user needs to decide on the choice of opening method. There are several such ways:

Standard, right- or left-side opening of the doors into the room;

Folding, when the bottom of the sash is fixed and the top folds inward. Mainly used for quick ventilation of rooms;

A combination of regular and folding openings, which change depending on the rotation of the sash handle.

Recently, accidents involving children falling out of windows have become more frequent. The accessibility of the window opening and the ease of opening with a simple turn of the handle have become a real problem for families with small children.

The folding option partially removes the severity of the issue. But there are cases where a child’s hand was caught between the frame and the sash of a tilt window.

There are two ways to solve the problem: install a plastic window with a window in the children's room, like those that used to be in all wooden windows, or make the window opening handle removable.

It should be noted that orders for windows with vents have begun to arrive more and more often. This option, in addition to everything, completely solves the issue with ventilation. Indeed, in the winter season, micro-ventilation often fails to cope with its function, and a window opened in tilt mode instantly releases heat.

Criterias of choice

Making the right choice means finding a compromise between quality and price.

Appearance is an important criterion, but far from the main one.

Window filling can be without an opening mechanism at all - this is when the double-glazed window is inserted not into the sash, but into the frame itself. Such a “grouse” can serve as one of the large elements of panoramic glazing, or it can simply become an additional source of light in a storage room or garage.

In the windows of country houses, only the tilting version of the sash is rarely found. Its main function of temporary ventilation of the room does not correspond to the very idea of a country house, where it should be possible to completely remove the barrier between man and nature.

A window with a swing sash is usually designed to open into the room. But if the interior features of the room do not allow this, then, at the customer’s request, a door can be made that opens outward.

True, this option excludes the use of a folding position, since in addition to air, precipitation will enter the apartment. But when the window is closed, the access of moisture into the room will be reliably blocked by a well-thought-out drainage system built into the window profile itself.

The full functional set provided by opening systems for standard plastic windows is assembled in a tilt-and-turn version of the sash device. Here there are loose closures - micro-ventilation, and rotary and folding types of opening.

Not limited by strict building codes for urban development, owners of private houses can choose the sizes and shapes of window fillings themselves.

Therefore, standard solutions in the form of an ordinary double-leaf window are not considered as the main ones for a country house. You can find both a window with one sash and a multi-sash composition.

The ease of implementation of various (round, trapezoidal) window configurations using a PVC profile distinguishes it favorably from wooden window fillings.

Window profile is the basis for high-quality filling of window openings

The first thing that catches your eye when assessing the quality of a window is, without a doubt, its supporting structure, consisting of a plastic profile.

A double-glazed window may consist of four glasses, but if the profile does not resist heat transfer well, you can forget about indoor comfort.

The narrower the profile post, the fewer chambers it has, the greater the likelihood that when it freezes, condensation will appear at the junction of the window with the slope, followed by the formation of mold.

This happens regardless of how the insulation and waterproofing of the junction of the window to the slope took place - according to all the rules, or whether violations were committed.

Speaking on the topic of abutment, it is impossible not to draw the attention of potential customers to the negative trend of recent times - the installation of slopes made of plastic.

Of course, this is a cheap, fast and pleasing to the eye option for finishing the wall plane adjacent to the window.

But, firstly, when using the plastic panels from which the slopes are made, prolonged exposure to sunlight is not allowed, as this provokes the release of harmful substances.

Secondly, if a cold profile was used in the production of the window, or if the installer did not comply with the requirements of the window connection device, then the owner will soon discover that life in the form of fungal formations is rapidly developing in the space between the panel and the wall.

These points must be taken into account when agreeing to a cheap plastic slope device.

Main brands of PVC window profile

The popularity of the name of a PVC profile manufacturer does not depend on advertising, but on how long the manufacturer has been working in the construction market. During this time, all the advantages and disadvantages of its products were tested in practice and found their place in the reviews of ordinary consumers.

Judging by the reviews, the first places among quality products are occupied by old-timers: German "Salamander", "", "REHAU", "VEKA". True, these companies have long transferred the production of PVC profiles to the territory of our country, but this did not particularly affect the quality.

The price of the products of these companies is higher than, say, that of MONTBLANC, but the quality is also better.

There are plenty of problems that any windows face in daily use: dust, rain, the formation of condensation and drafts, street noise.

It is possible to solve a complex of these complex issues in one fell swoop only by understanding the quality characteristics of filling window openings.

When choosing, you should pay attention to the fact that there are different options for windows: some are more suitable for use in a private home, others - in urban areas.

Windows for the city

Residents of a city apartment facing a busy street suffer the most from noise penetrating into the room.

The best solution is a four- or five-chamber PVC profile and a two-chamber double-glazed window.

Sometimes it happens that immediately after installing a window, the noise disappears, but over time it appears again. This is due to problems with the rubber seal built into the window sashes. Mechanical damage to the seal or its overheating can cause not only street sounds to enter the room, but also moisture and drafts. Therefore, it is considered mandatory to periodically check the condition of the seal and lubricate it with silicone grease.

If the apartment is on the sunny side almost all daylight hours, the owners should think about installing windows with tinted double-glazed windows or, as an option, with energy-saving glass.

Using a double-glazed window, the chamber of which is filled with argon, as an insulating agent is not effective for protection from sunlight.

The sun penetrates freely through the gas, heating the surface exposed to it. In addition, prolonged heating of the package itself can lead to its depressurization and the disappearance of its protective properties.

Manufacturers always provide a warranty period for the quality operation of the package with a chamber filled with argon or the rare gas krypton. If you notice sudden condensation on the window - a sign of depressurization, contact the seller and demand replacement of the damaged glass unit.

From the point of view of possible problems, a double-glazed window filled with gas is the most vulnerable option.

Argon is a very dense gas that is colorless, odorless and non-flammable. It is absolutely harmless to humans. You can notice its disappearance from the glass unit chamber only by indirect signs: noticeable cooling in the room and condensation, or, in particularly difficult cases, the formation of ice in the corners of the window.

In city apartments located on the lower floors or located above extensions adjacent to the house, it is advisable to install windows supplemented with anti-burglary elements.

To reinforced fittings, you can add a decorative grille built into the glass unit.

Tempered glass can save you from the possibility of entering the premises through a broken window. This glass is a relative of armored glass, inferior to it in a number of indicators. But even such glass cannot be broken by a thrown stone or blows from a metal object.

To protect the glass unit, you can order the outer glass to be laminated at the manufacturer with a special armored film. Such glass is not as effective as glass glued together from several layers, however, even it will make it difficult for a person who wants to enter the premises from the street without permission.

You can laminate the glass with a special protective film from mechanical damage or penetration of sunlight yourself

This process does not require any special skills. All you need is a window, film and desire.

Windows for a country house

The window that is suitable for installation in a city high-rise apartment cannot always be used in rural areas.

The choice depends on external factors. Outside the city there is no excessive noise from which you need to hide behind multi-chamber windows. Therefore, sound insulation does not play a special role.

Increased requirements for thermal protection can also be neglected if the country house is used mainly in the warm season. In this case, installing single-chamber double-glazed windows framed with a three-chamber profile is what is needed. Plus - significant savings in money.

In addition to PVC windows, windows with frames made of laminated veneer lumber can be installed in a private house.

The technical characteristics of these window opening fillings differ little from the characteristics of their counterparts assembled from PVC profiles. Such windows do not react to changes in humidity, they are environmentally friendly and, thanks to special impregnation, practically do not burn.

The choice of wood from which wooden sheets for laminated timber are glued together is very wide.

The most popular are oak, pine, larch and spruce. The highest quality timber is considered to be glued together from larch - it is not subject to rotting, and also easily tolerates changes in temperature and humidity.

A double-glazed window installed in a frame made of laminated timber is no different from a package installed in a window made of PVC profile. The wooden version of the frame is suitable for all the recommendations given for a plastic window. You can use argon, glass lamination or two chambers - there are no restrictions.

Windows for balconies

The width of a balcony screen, as a rule, is no more than 50mm, so installing a multi-chamber frame with a profile wider than this value is a difficult task. In this case, the profile must be selected so that it matches the width of the base on which it rests - the balcony screen.

In order not to subject the balcony slab to excessive load, it is better to choose single-chamber double-glazed windows with energy-saving glass or gas-filled chambers for glazing.

You can additionally insulate a narrow three-chamber profile by ordering its chambers to be filled with polyurethane foam.

The best plastic windows

You can determine which plastic windows are best suited for installation in a particular room based on an analysis of the conditions under which they will be used.

For the southern regions of the country, it is important that the plastic from which they are made does not decompose due to high temperatures.

For a cold climate zone, it is necessary that it does not crack from a slight blow in severe frost. But in both cases, the constant condition is good heat transfer resistance of the profile.

The definition of “the best windows” also implies the best price indicators. If we compare windows made of plastic with those of similar size but made of aluminum or wood, then the advantage will be on the side of PVC.

In their category, the most expensive will be plastic windows made from profiles produced abroad. Does it make sense to overpay when buying an original product, ignoring their domestic counterpart? Everyone will answer this question at their own discretion. My opinion is this: there is no evidence that the domestic profile is worse than the imported one. But what can significantly affect the quality of the finished window is assembly at the factory and violations made by the installer during installation.

If someone believes that by choosing a good manufacturer, he has completed the main task and closed the issue with the subsequent high-quality operation of his windows, then such a person is seriously mistaken. That's half the battle.

The second no less important stage is the competent installation of a window in a window opening, in compliance with all construction rules.

Many users are happy with how quickly their window was installed. And no one tells them that it is sealed only with polyurethane foam, and this is only one detail of the device for connecting the window to the wall.

Meanwhile, there are special insulators in the form of expansion tape PSUL and self-adhesive tape Vikar S LT. Without them, according to building codes, it is unacceptable to finish external or internal slopes.

Selecting a quality profile

The market for building materials and, in particular, the production of window products is in constant motion.

The appearance of new durable plastic profiles, living for 50 and 70 years, is constantly announced.

But the fact is that while there is no experience of using the material in natural conditions, it is impossible to say with complete confidence about its durability. The tests that plastic is subjected to in laboratory conditions cannot be compared with real ones.

In any case, the profile must pass certain tests and have a certificate allowing its use in residential premises.

PVC profile width

Basically, the width of the profile used in our country ranges from 58mm to 70mm. The maximum permissible width is 90mm, but this kind of excess is available only to foreign users, although these windows can be made and brought from abroad by special order. True, not everyone can afford it.

What does the number of cameras in a profile affect?

The number of partitions on the profile cut indicates the number of chambers, which play an important role in maintaining heat in the room and suppressing street noise.

In this case, the principle works: the more, the better.

The simplest version has 3 cavities-chambers, the most filled one has 6 chambers.

The profile quality is divided into classes:

economy– the most affordable, consisting of three chambers, no more than 60mm wide;

standard– enjoying increased popularity due to its average price range and satisfactory technical characteristics;

premium– a high-quality but expensive profile of five to six chambers, about 70mm wide. Externally it has a particularly high-quality surface.

When making a choice, for example, for a seasonally used summer house, there is no point in buying a window with a premium profile.

For an area with average climatic parameters, it is enough to install a window made of standard-class PVC.

In any case, the choice must be made based on your financial capabilities and based on the operating conditions of window products. If the room has good heating and even in winter there is a need for constant ventilation, then does it make sense to pursue more expensive multi-chamber windows? After all, for them you will have to pay 20% more interest than for those whose characteristics are quite satisfactory to you.

Windows of a private house

This is not to say that there is a problem with a lack of choice in the window sales industry. The supply of various companies producing and installing windows currently exceeds demand.

Since there are options, in order to save money, there is no need to rush to make a choice - as practice shows, windows have not become more expensive lately, rather, on the contrary.

A reasonable solution would be to review all the proposals and select products that are suitable in terms of technical and operational properties and have characteristics that correspond to the climatic zone of construction.

If everything matches, then the next step is to analyze reviews about the manufacturer and the work of the installers. Was the test result positive? This means you can call a surveyor and discuss the details with him.

Communication with the surveyor can help determine the status of the organization in which he works. The lack of a laser tape measure and the time to carefully measure window openings threatens you with installing a window with dimensions larger or smaller than the optimal option.

There is one important nuance for the customer - the person who made it must install the product, be it a door or a window. All reputable manufacturing companies have their own specialist installers. If they made mistakes in the installation, or defects in the product itself appeared, then there will be no issues with a warranty replacement.

When the manufacturer and installer are independent of each other, then they will certainly blame each other for any detected defect. And in this situation, in order to achieve the truth, the customer will have to, at a minimum, contact the consumer protection society.

Wood, aluminum, PVC - which is better?

Windows are more than just the eyes of a home. They play a big role in shaping the appearance of the entire facade as a decorative element, and also serve as reliable protection from external influences.

After the construction of the walls and roof of any house, the third stage is necessarily the filling of window openings. During a major renovation of an apartment, replacing windows is the beginning of the renovation process itself.

Therefore, it is not surprising that so many questions are asked about which windows are better - wood, plastic or aluminum?

We can firmly say that aluminum windows will last much longer than their competitors. But their cost makes one wonder: wouldn’t it be enough to install plastic windows with a service life of about 50 years for much less money? The answer to this question is different for each person.

Someone will say that wood is an environmentally friendly material, and they will be right.

To some, a six-chamber PVC profile, and even filled with insulation, will seem the most heat-saving - and this is also true.

Therefore, when making a choice, you need to proceed from your own needs. But if we analyze the installation of what type of window products takes first place, we will see that the leading positions in private houses, high-rise buildings, kindergartens and schools (this indicates that they have undergone a special selection) are occupied by plastic windows .

This means that people have made their choice in favor of the PVC profile.

What do you need to get from installing a plastic window? The answer is simple: heat preservation, suppression of street noise, limiting the access of moisture and the lack of special care for plastic.

Plus, you can make any configuration of the sashes and even order a window vent.

And the most important argument is that the cost of the finished product is quite affordable for everyone. If you don’t have enough money for a premium class profile, then you can order economy class and never regret it.

At the same time, we should not forget that problematic issues are not excluded with plastic windows. It could be:

  • the appearance of condensation. The reason for this phenomenon is poor ventilation of the room in which the window is installed;
  • draft between the sash and the frame. The reason is damage to the seal, it is also possible that the window is installed incorrectly or the connection of the sash to the frame is poorly adjusted;
  • the appearance of mold on the slopes - the connection of the profile to the wall was made in violation of building codes.

Users may notice the appearance of an unpleasant odor if the profile is exposed to sunlight for a long time. This indicates a poor-quality composition from which the profile was cast. But this is an extremely rare case, and the consumers themselves are partly to blame here, who were chasing cheapness without bothering to get all the information about the product.

Drawing a conclusion from all of the above, I will say that windows in the house are not installed as often as wallpaper is re-glued. Their installation is, as they say, “serious and long-term,” so the choice must be approached responsibly, taking as the basis for the analysis actual reviews of people who have dealt with this particular type of window.

During renovations, we must not forget about the “mirrors of the soul” of our home – the windows. When choosing between structures made of wood or PVC, few people these days prefer wooden windows, which are expensive and troublesome to maintain and install. Plastic structures are a modern answer to the last century. But they are also divided into types and categories that differ from each other in many respects. Let's find out which windows are best to install in an apartment and how not to get confused in their diversity.

Components of window construction

Before replacing old windows with plastic ones, it is necessary to study their main components: correctly selected elements ensure the reliability of the entire structure. A metal-plastic window consists of:

  • profile;
  • double glazed windows;
  • accessories.

Each of these elements is divided into different types and selected depending on future operating conditions.

What does the profile consist of?

The profile is the supporting base of the PVC window on which the double-glazed window is supported. The profile includes three elements:

  • frame;
  • glazing bead;
  • sash.

Frame

The frame is a blind element that is mounted in the window opening. When choosing a window, you need to pay attention to the material from which the frame is made:

  • Matte plastic is an impractical material that is becoming increasingly rare. Its main disadvantage is that it gets dirty quickly, and traces of dirt and fingerprints remaining on the frame are difficult to clean.
  • Glossy plastic outperforms matte plastic in every respect. Of course, all traces and prints will stand out more clearly on gloss, but it is also much easier to wash them - just wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

Beading bead

The bead is a narrow strip with a thin rubber gasket that holds the camera. Its width depends on the thickness of the glass unit; the shape can be different - curly, rounded, square. They are made of two materials: PVC or glass composite, which is characterized by increased strength and higher cost.

Tip: the bead has a limited service life, after which it requires replacement, so you should pay attention to a glass-composite product.

Additional functions of the bead:

  1. Preventing drafts and dust from getting into the cracks between the frames.
  2. Noise and heat insulation.
  3. Making the window look more aesthetically pleasing and complete.

Sash

To choose the right type of PVC window sash, you need to consider its types separately. She may be:

  • deaf;
  • rotary;
  • folding;
  • tilt and turn;
  • shtulpovoy.

It is a fixed PVC window structure and cannot be opened. The advantage of such an element is its low cost (due to the lack of fittings and panels), the disadvantage is its immobility. It is permissible to install a blind sash only in combination with an opening one, otherwise it will be impossible to ventilate the room and wash the double-glazed window from the outside (if it is not the first floor of the house).

A blind window is symbolically designated by the signs “+” or “×”.

Pivot sash

This type of sash is much more convenient than a blind one, but is better suited for a window opening that has a large height and small width. The large swing product creates some inconvenience in the form of a strong draft. Also, indoor flowers cannot be placed on the windowsill of such a window.

The rotary sash is symbolized by the mathematical sign “<».

Folding (fanlight) sash

This type of sash in PVC windows can tilt at the top to a certain degree. This option is usually installed in small rooms where it is necessary to use the size of the room sparingly and regularly ventilate.

Tilt-and-turn sash

It has the best reviews in terms of convenience and functionality of the design. It is a little more expensive compared to previous options, but the window is not installed for a year or two, so it is worth considering in advance the options for using the space near the window. The tilt-and-turn design is a sash that, depending on the position of the handle, swings horizontally inward or tilts upward.

Classification of PVC profiles

Window profiles differ in the following parameters:

  • by wall thickness;
  • by the number of cameras;
  • by type or class.

The profile dimensions are selected depending on the thickness of the walls and the dimensions of the opening. A correctly selected profile provides better insulation and sound insulation of the room.

Number of cameras

If you look at the profile in section, you will clearly see that its internal space is divided into isolated chambers. In the middle there is a reinforcing metal U-shaped tab; the other chambers of the profile are designed to remove condensate and create an additional air cushion to improve the heat-saving properties of the window.

The number of air chambers of a metal-plastic profile varies from 1 to 8 and directly affects its energy-saving properties. For central Russia, a profile with 2–5 cameras is suitable.

Thickness of outer and inner walls

According to this parameter, profiles are divided into 3 types:

  1. A class - the thickness of the outer wall is at least 2.8 mm, the thickness of the inner wall is at least 2.5 mm.
  2. B class - at least 2.5 mm for the outer and 2 mm for the inner walls.
  3. C class - does not have clear requirements for the ratio of wall thickness.

Profile types

Profiles for PVC windows can be divided into three types:

  1. Economy option is the cheapest type. Standard size is 58–62 mm. With this profile, a single-chamber double-glazed window with a width of 24 mm is usually installed. Withstands temperatures down to -15°C and does not allow drafts to pass through.
  2. Standard is a universal type. Standard size is 62–74 mm. Three- and four-chamber profiles can be installed with a two-chamber double-glazed window with a width of 38–42 mm.
  3. Luxury is the most expensive and high-quality type. The standard size is 90 mm, but the range of sizes starts from 80 mm. It is a five-chamber profile with a double-glazed window 38–42 mm wide. Compared to other types, it has the best heat-saving ability and has a more attractive design.

  • Veka;
  • Salamander;
  • Montblanc;
  • Kaleva.

Types of double-glazed windows

The double-glazed window is the second most important element of a PVC window. The heat and sound insulation properties of the structure depend on it. They can have from one to three air chambers. In addition to dividing according to this criterion, the following types of double-glazed windows are distinguished:

  1. Frost-resistant - the fogging process begins not at -35, but at -55 degrees. They are used in regions with harsh climates.
  2. Sunscreen – reflects ultraviolet rays.
  3. Shock-resistant – packages of the “Triplex” system with a special film coating are able to withstand even strong impacts. It is advisable to install them for residents of the first floors.
  4. Energy-saving - due to special reflective i-glass with sputtering and the presence of argon in the chambers, they retain up to 90% of heat.
  5. Noise-proof – they have chambers of different thicknesses and may additionally contain resin as an insulating layer.

Single-chamber double-glazed window

It consists of two glasses, between which there is an air layer that provides heat and sound insulation. Metal-plastic windows with single-chamber double-glazed windows are best installed in regions with a warm climate and when living in areas with low noise levels, since they are not able to provide a high level of heat and sound insulation. In addition, apartment owners with installed single-chamber double-glazed windows complain about constantly “sweating” windows.

Double-glazed window

It consists of three glasses, between which there are two air cushions. Compared to the single-chamber version, this one has much more attractive characteristics.

By varying the thickness of the glass and the size of the chambers in a double-glazed window, making one of them wider, you can significantly reduce heat loss and noise levels in the apartment. For a product with a thickness of 32 mm, the ratio of the thickness of the glass and air chambers will look like this:

  • standard version – 4 × 10 × 4 × 10 × 4 – three glasses 4 mm thick with two chambers of 10 mm between them.
  • improved – 4 × 12 × 4 × 8 × 4 – the camera located closer to the street is thicker.

Three-chamber double-glazed window

Due to the presence of three glasses and four air chambers, it perfectly retains heat in the room and does not let in street noise. It is not popular due to its large thickness, which is not compatible with every opening, and its massive weight, which leads to rapid wear of the fittings. For effective protection from severe cold or for high-quality sound insulation in the city, it is better to prefer energy-saving and noise-proof options.

Accessories

Fittings are all the movable metal or plastic elements of the window: handles, hinges, locks, lock mates, various hinge covers, etc. These are small in size, but by no means small in importance, details that you should not skimp on. These elements will be used every day, which means they must be reliable and of high quality.

One of the innovative inventions for PVC windows is a climate valve that provides natural ventilation of the room. The device does not require special maintenance; it can be installed in any metal-plastic window.

Window measurements

After selecting the component elements of the window, you need to invite a measurer to your home, who will correctly take measurements - the width and height of the opening. You cannot rely on standard dimensions, since they do not exist in principle - the thickness of the walls and the height of the openings in different houses differ, and the standards, accordingly, too. You can make preliminary measurements of windows to calculate the approximate cost of the finished structure yourself.

And finally, it is worth recalling: in order for windows to serve for a long time and not be a source of drafts, you need to carefully consider the process of their installation. Everything is important here, from strict adherence to technology to the type of polyurethane foam used.

Private house requires great attention to detail, and maintaining it is significantly different from maintaining an apartment. This also applies to the choice of windows that will frame the house and will be able to highlight its advantages.

It is worth noting that today there is a large assortment of these products on the market, and the difference lies not only in their design, but also in their purpose. Let's consider which windows are better put in a private house.

In contact with

Main types according to frame material

Looking for the best option It is worth relying not only on the design, but also on the foundation. Each type has its characteristics and has positive and negative qualities. The basis of the opening is glass, but another important component is the frame. When it comes time to replace window openings in your home, the question arises, or a private house.

Take note! The frame creates a reliable fastening of the glass. The advantages and disadvantages of the entire structure will also depend on its characteristics.

How to choose windows for home based on material:

In most cases, the best solution in a private home will be plastic windows. How to choose them correctly? To do this you need to study the classification.

Classification

Due to the fact that PVC windows have become widespread, there are different classifications- by the number of doors, opening method, number of chambers and shape. They allow you to better study the benefits of each type. Therefore, it is very important to know how the types of plastic windows for a private home differ from each other and what qualities they have in general. Photos will help choose the best option.

Separation by number of leaves:

  • single leaf- most often the entire window opens;
  • bivalve- one opening leaf;
  • tricuspid– from one to three functional leaves.

In all of these cases, it is possible to make adjustments during the ordering process, especially for the last subtype. However changes will be reflected in the price.

The number of valves will depend on optimal window size for a private home.

Intimacy and method of opening

Let's consider two more important parameters that cannot be ignored when choosing windows.

By opening method

Opening method- also an important point for those who select options for plastic windows for a private home.

There are such varieties:

  1. deaf,
  2. with rotary opening,
  3. folding (or transom),
  4. combined opening methods.

In the latter case, there are also subtypes that can be very useful in the country.

By number of cameras

Number of cameras as a method of classification also has a right to exist. Thanks to them, you can determine how many glasses will be placed in a double-glazed PVC window.

Window options in a private house by number of cameras:

  • single-chamber - two glasses are separated by one partition;
  • two-chamber - three glasses with two partitions;
  • three-chamber, etc.

It is worth considering that the main condition for this classification is the percentage of heat retention. More cameras mean a warmer room.

Outlines as an important principle of separation

There are also various forms plastic windows for a private home. The photo shows the most common of them.

The following forms are distinguished:

  • standard (rectangular),
  • arched,
  • triangular,
  • round,
  • trapezoidal.

However, in case individual order You can adjust window openings to specific shapes. All conditions will dictate design decisions, as well as the location of windows.

The classifications listed above may vary or be supplemented in accordance with the criteria. Can even be taken into account design or layout.

Framing with layout

For enhancing the aesthetic appearance designs often use decorative layouts. Their use allows you to change the external outline of the window opening. In addition, designs with layouts in the interior of a private house are a modern practice, which makes it possible to emphasize the non-standard shapes of buildings. Moreover, the use of layouts gives doorway vintage style.

Among the layouts, the following types of structures can be distinguished:

  • sprats- for internal installation;
  • false binding- for outdoor installation;
  • overlays- for different purposes.

It is worth noting that designs of this type look great and retain the external and internal attractiveness of the structure. Among the layout options, there are also varieties that embody the original design ideas.

Criteria for selecting a window opening for a private house

Which windows are better Suitable for a country house? The variety of choices allows you to find the ideal option, but this same condition complicates it.

The question arises, by what rules to choose plastic structures. The answer to this can be found after familiarizing yourself with the features of the different options. You can also pay attention to expert advice.

The first point to consider is is thermal insulation. As for noise isolation, this is not the most important criterion.

For the dacha plays a big role frame material. If you are faced with a choice of which frames are best to install (PVC or aluminum), then the first option will be preferable. Their characteristics are significantly superior to their aluminum counterparts. This especially affects on the main criterion - efficiency.

Note! The type of construction must also be taken into account. For example, for a wooden house they must provide protection from natural influences, provide sufficient light and be safe. In addition, weather conditions affect the condition of the walls.

To figure out what size make windows in a private house, it is worth exploring different samples. This condition will make the framing of your home harmonious in all respects.

What window sizes should I choose for a private home? To save money Large windows are often used that retain a lot of light, for example an excellent solution for a private home. Their purpose is also to create an aesthetic appearance and a cozy space inside.

Useful video

When choosing, you need to take into account various parameters: number of sashes, material, shape. The size of windows for a private home also plays an important role. Follow the recommendations given in the article and you will find the best option for your specific case.

It is impossible to even imagine any private house without windows. They are both “screens to the world”, and sources of natural light, and an important element of the room ventilation system, and very a significant component of the overall architectural appearance of the building. Naturally, very high demands must be placed on windows so that they fully cope with their tasks and at the same time do not become a “highway” for heat leakage.

Not so long ago, practically the only option was wood windows, so the main task was to find high-quality, well-fitted frames, or an experienced craftsman who would take on their manufacture. But these days the construction market offers a very wide range of window structures made from various materials. That’s why homeowners are faced with the question of which windows are best to install in a private home.

Types of window frames based on material and design

In private houses of old construction, as a rule, they tried to install windows that were not too large. Heating was predominantly stove, and it was necessary to maintain as much as possible a comfortable atmosphere for living in the house, since up to 35% of the accumulated heat can evaporate through window openings.

Modern designs of houses under construction are somewhat different from those options that were widely used earlier - both in their facade design and the size of window openings. To the point that in some rooms they completely abandon windows in the usual sense, creating panoramic glazing. If previously all windows were rectangular, today many owners prefer non-standard shapes.

Modern materials and structures created from them make it possible to include windows of any size and configuration into the project being developed. They are quite capable of protecting the house not only from the cold, but also from external noise. In addition, owners have the opportunity to choose models that will best match the overall façade design of the house.

In order to make the right choice, you should consider what windows the market offers and which of them are better suited for a particular owner of a private home.

So, modern window frames are made of wood, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and aluminum. Quite often, some of the materials are used in combination.

Wooden frames

Until relatively recently, when there were no other options on the market, there were no problems with choice, since all window frames were made of wood. Despite the emergence of new materials, wooden windows are still very popular today, as they have a lot of positive qualities. Moreover, modern products are made using new technologies, from high-quality hardwood or from three-layer laminated veneer lumber.

The advantage of the structural structure of laminated veneer lumber eliminates the possibility of frame deformation under the influence of moisture and temperature changes. Manufactured from laminated timber with a thickness of 78, 68 and 56 mm so called "Eurowindows", which are excellent for the natural conditions of central Russia. The wood gluing technology ensures the strength of the parts, as well as the durability of the windows.

By design, wooden window frames come in three main types - single, double, separate and paired.

In addition, wooden windows with ordinary glass can be divided according to the opening method. They are:

- deaf, that is, not opening;

- single-leaf, opening;

- double-leaf with one or both opening doors;

- tricuspid with central or lateral, or with two side opening doors;

— vertically sliding with a lifting lower sash.

Prices for wooden windows

wooden windows

Single frames, which require the installation of single glass, can be used for summer buildings or utility buildings. True, they can often provide for the installation of a single-chamber double-glazed window (with two glasses).

Separate frames They are installed infrequently nowadays, as they are not very convenient to use. They are chosen only if it is necessary to protect the home from very low winter temperatures. Each of the sashes of such a window opens separately, and an air gap is formed between the outer and inner parts of the structure, which is an additional thermal insulation barrier. Second, the internal frame can sometimes be completely dismantled for the summer.

Twin frames Previously, they were universally installed in high-rise apartments, so they are familiar to many of their owners. A considerable number of them exploited until today. This design represents a common frame into which glazed sashes are installed, screwed together.

This option is more convenient to use, which, however, cannot be said about maintenance. So, in order to wash the inside of the glass, the sashes must be unscrewed and then fastened together again. The glass will have to be cleaned at least once a year, since the frames are not sealed together, and dust quite easily penetrates into the space between the sashes.

Wooden windows have their own positive and negative features, which manifest themselves during their operation.

Advantages wooden windows can be considered the following:

  • Ecological cleanliness manufacturing material. This selection criterion becomes one of the most important, since many home owners try to adhere to the principle of “eco-living”, using exclusively natural, absolutely harmless materials for construction and decoration. Wood does not emit toxic substances into the environment during the entire period of operation. On the contrary, it is able to create the most favorable, healthy microclimate in the rooms of the house.

In addition, wood is a “breathable” material, which reduces the risk of mold growing on the walls of the room. Unlike artificial composites, air constantly circulates through the micropores of wooden frames. This promotes natural ventilation of the premises - for example, a frame of standard sizes allows up to 2.5 cubic meters of air per day.

  • Durability. This quality is possessed by windows made by a qualified craftsman and from good hardwood, such as oak, larch, walnut, cherry and some other options. However, the most popular wood is still pine, due to its affordable price. But it can also last a long time if the frame design is carefully executed by a craftsman, with appropriate protective treatment of the material and with proper care from the owners of the house.
  • Thermal insulation qualities. Wood itself is a “warm” material. However, heat can escape from the house through the gaps between structural parts. Therefore, everyone who has lived in houses with wooden frames of conventional construction knows that windows need to be sealed in the winter. To this day, hardware stores sell special kits for winter insulation of windows. In this regard, it cannot be said unequivocally about wooden frames that they will reliably protect the house from the cold. All depends on the specific models and workmanship.
  • Possibility of repair. In many cases, wooden frames can be repaired, both their external surface and the mechanical part. Chips and scratches, even on unpainted frames, are easily masked using special compounds. Therefore, if the frames are accidentally damaged, or for some reason the hinges of the structure fail, it will not have to be completely replaced, since any part of the wooden window can be repaired or the necessary part can be replaced.
  • Aesthetic appearance. Wood has a beautiful structural structure, a pleasant warm shade of various tones, so wooden frames will decorate both the interior of the house’s rooms and its façade. If desired or necessary, the frames can be painted in the desired color to match the overall design of the facade or rooms. Wood combines with any decorative materials and creates excellent compositions with them.

TO shortcomings wooden windows include the following points related to the qualities of the products and the features of their operation:

  • High price. Products made from high-quality hardwood with a dense structure, or from laminated veneer lumber, are not cheap.

  • Service. Wooden frames must be inspected annually, since the material, even well-treated, is negatively affected by external natural factors - ultraviolet rays, moisture, wind, temperature changes. In addition, it is recommended to paint or varnish this type of frame, and this will have to be done quite often. There is also a known problem with cleaning the insides of glass and frames. To carry out this event sometimes requires spending several hours.
  • Soundproofing. Ordinary wooden windows do not have high sound-proofing qualities, even in cases where they are installed with seals or insulated by sealing the joints for the winter period.
  • Flammability of the material. It's no secret that wood has increased flammability, so it is treated with special solutions - fire retardants. However, over time, the impregnation loses its properties and the treatment must be repeated. If we consider that houses are built from wood that last for centuries, then for frames this “minus” is certainly insignificant.

Nowadays, wooden frames are produced and double-glazed windows are installed in them. They more reliably protect your home from the cold, as they are practically airtight. But their cost is several times higher than the price of conventional wood structures, into which each glass is inserted separately.

Metal-plastic frames

Metal-plastic windows have been used all over the world for more than fifty years. They appeared in Russia and the CIS countries much later, but immediately managed to gain appreciation from grateful buyers.

The design of metal-plastic windows usually includes the following elements and components:

  • Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) profile. The window frame and sashes are made from this material.
  • Galvanized steel reinforcement elements are installed inside a plastic profile. They give it strength and eliminate the risk of material deformation.
  • Fitting elements. This category of parts includes handles, locks, seals, glazing beads, covers for ventilation holes, brackets for hanging mosquito nets and other parts if they are provided for by the window design.
  • A double-glazed window that is hermetically installed in a frame structure. More detailed information about these elements of metal-plastic windows will be presented below, since double-glazed windows are widely used in other window designs - aluminum, wood, combined.

By design, metal-plastic windows are single-leaf, double-leaf and three-leaf, with or without vents. And according to the method of opening, window sashes are divided into several types.

1 – Swing.

2 – Folding.

3 – Swing-folding.

4 – Sliding.

5 – Folding.

6 – Rotary, swinging.

7 – Rotary in the middle part.

8 - Top-hung, opening upwards.

Non-standard opening of windows is most often chosen in complex installation cases, when the usual opening of the structure is impossible or extremely inconvenient.

Now it is necessary to consider the advantages and disadvantages of frames made of PVC profiles in order to compare them with other options.

So to positive aspects Windows made from this material include the following:

  • The first thing that attracts buyers is the affordable price of the products.
  • Energy saving - this most important quality of metal-plastic structures can be called the second most important when choosing them for a home. In our climate, properly selected frames with double-glazed windows are quite capable of reliably retaining heat indoors.
  • Sound insulation - this quality is especially important for houses located near busy highways or in noisy urban areas. Metal-plastic windows can reliably protect the premises of the house from external noise, reducing it to 35÷40 dB. This quality of construction largely depends on the thickness and number of glasses in the package.
  • The tightness of high-quality metal-plastic windows is undeniable, since they are capable of not only thermally insulating rooms, but also providing them with protection from dust and dirt. The structures do not allow air to pass through, but make it easy to ventilate rooms, since they can be opened in several thoughtful positions or include ventilation elements.
  • Comfortable to use. Metal-plastic windows do not require cosmetic repairs, such as painting and impregnation. They can be easily cleaned with a wet and dry cloth and window cleaner. During the winter period, the windows do not need to be additionally insulated or sealed.
  • PVC profiles have a very neat appearance and can transform the facade of a house. The profile can be decorated with wood, metal or fabric, but, as a rule, such window options are somewhat more expensive than ordinary white frames.
  • Strength of the material. High-quality PVC used for the manufacture of window structures is quite durable. It is difficult to accidentally scratch or damage it in any other way.
  • Moisture resistance. Polyvinyl chloride does not absorb water, so the material can be called moisture resistant. And sealing gaskets installed at the joints of individual structural parts prevent moisture from penetrating into the room.

Now it is necessary to talk about possible shortcomings metal-plastic windows, which users note, based on their own operating experience:

  • The width of the metal-plastic profile exceeds the width of wooden frames and can vary from 58 to 90 mm. This circumstance somewhat reduces the glazed area, reducing the possibilities of natural lighting.
  • The material is not “breathable”, and this, along with the tightness of the shutters and in the absence of proper ventilation, can lead to the constant formation of condensation, Finally in the apartment A microclimate begins to be created, which is sometimes called the “greenhouse effect.” And such conditions are a step towards the appearance of mold colonies, waterlogging of walls and window slopes, and damage to the finish.

Therefore, it is recommended to purchase windows that have special provisions for ventilation (micro-ventilation). Some users prefer window frames with vents for room ventilation - this option is also available, but it will cost a little more. It is quite possible to solve the problem by installing a special ventilation valve - any home owner should cope with this task.

A comfortable microclimate in the house without effective ventilation is impossible!

A big mistake is made by those owners who tend to consider ventilation problems as optional “secondary” tasks. Read about the importance of such a system, the rules for its creation and improvement, and in particular about the installation of supply valves on plastic windows in a special article on our portal.

  • There is a high probability of purchasing low-quality products. Today, a large number of local manufacturers present their metal-plastic frames on the market. The fact that they usually use high-quality profiles from well-known brands for their work does not mean the unconditional quality of production. Unfortunately, not all companies involved in window installation treat their production in good faith. And this leads to various problematic situations already during the operation of the products. Therefore, before placing an order, you should inquire about the company’s reputation.

  • Another point that you should pay attention to is the presence of lead additives in the metal composition. To make sure that the product does not contain harmful impurities, you should ask the seller for a quality certificate. Experts recommend purchasing metal-plastic products made from German-made profiles that comply all existing safety standards, as they do not contain toxic components.

It must also be said that the frames need to be inquired about profile class from which they will be manufactured. The fact is that there are several options that differ in quality and cost. And one of the evaluation criteria is the number of cameras. The more air layers isolated from each other are created in the profile, the higher its thermal insulation qualities.

  • Premium class profile has an impeccable appearance and excellent performance characteristics. As a rule, there are five or six air chambers in the profile. Its thickness is at least 70 mm.
  • Standard class are frames that have an average cost, but have improved technical characteristics and an aesthetic appearance. This profile option has three to four air chambers and a thickness of 60÷70 mm.
  • Economy class are products of a basic modification that have a low cost. These profiles usually have three air chambers, thickness up to 60 mm.

Aluminum frames

If previously aluminum windows were mainly installed in industrial buildings, shops and offices, today they are increasingly being chosen for installation in apartments and private houses. Moreover There are “cold” and “warm” versions of such products. Cold aluminum frames are most often chosen for glazing balconies or country houses, which are used for living only in the summer. At the same time, for balconies and verandas the most popular option is

Insulated frames should function well in houses with permanent residence. True, due to the high thermal conductivity of aluminum, many residents of cold regions of Russia are still prejudiced against such windows.

In their design and method of opening, aluminum frames are identical to metal-plastic windows, so there is no point in repeating them by listing them. However, according to its characteristics, the material differs from PVC, and has its own positive and negative qualities.

The aluminum profile from which the frames and sashes are made can be 68 or 76 mm thick. Windows are produced with single- and double-glazed windows: the former are usually installed in “cold” frame options, and the latter, respectively, in insulated ones. In addition, both “cold” and insulated structures soundproof rooms very well from external noise. Thus, the noise insulation parameters of the “warm” version are 58÷60 dB.

TO positive characteristics aluminum windows include the following:

  • High strength characteristics allow these products to be installed in buildings where increased load will be placed on the frames.
  • The presence of powder coating on the surface of the frames not only protects them from external influences, but also makes them more decorative. Thus, spraying can have different colors, including imitating the textured pattern of wood or leather.
  • Long service life. Large manufacturers that produce high-quality products indicate a service life of 80 years.
  • Aluminum frames 9subject to installation requirements) are inert to corrosion processes and other external natural influences, do not fade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
  • Easy to maintain - they do not need to be insulated for the winter and periodically painted. Cleaning is done using glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
  • The materials used in the production of aluminum frames do not contain toxic substances and are therefore safe for humans and the environment.

Negative qualities aluminum structures can be called the following:

  • High thermal conductivity of the metal. The “cold” version of the frames will not be able to retain heat in the room, so it is chosen for unheated buildings or as a second glazing. And even in “warm” versions, with a multi-chamber profile, a powerful “cold bridge” still remains early - precisely because of the high thermal conductivity of aluminum.
  • Aluminum cannot be mounted in combination with other metals, since a destructive chemical reaction is inevitable, leading to the appearance of pockets of corrosion.
  • High cost of products - this criterion often becomes decisive for many buyers, and they prefer metal-plastic frames, which have a more affordable price. And they are warmer...

Combined frames

Combined window frames are made from several materials that combine well with each other. Thanks to this, products acquire increased functional characteristics and become more durable.

plastic windows

As a result of work on the creation of combined window frames, an optimal combination was achieved qualities of different materials, which in the composition they minimize or completely neutralize each other’s shortcomings.

Combined windows are designed for the installation of double-glazed windows. This type of structure is made from different materials, but the most popular combinations are:

  • Wood and aluminum.
  • Wood and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

In order to understand what they are and what characteristics are characteristic of them, it is necessary to consider the combined options of window frames in a little more detail.

Window frames made of wood and aluminum

This combination of materials is used in two versions - the aluminum profile is the outer part of the structure and covers the wood, or, on the contrary, it forms the basis of the frame onto which a wooden decorative overlay is fixed.

Wooden-aluminum frames

Windows with frames of this design are less susceptible to external influences of natural factors, since the wood is protected by aluminum. At the same time, thanks to the structural structure of the base material, they do a good job of retaining heat in rooms.

Frames in this combination of materials are made using German, Finnish or Swedish technology. And each of them has its own characteristics.

  • German designs of combined windows are designed exactly according to the principle described above - it is a single wooden frame protected from the outside by an aluminum profile. Moreover, metal plates can be attached to a wooden frame so that a ventilation gap is created between them, which does not allow condensation to accumulate on their surfaces during sudden temperature changes. However, this option only has a swing opening.

In some models, aluminum linings are fixed close to the outer surface of the wooden section, which makes it possible to install mechanisms on them not only for traditional opening, but also for tilting the sash inside the room.

This design option is quite simple to install, but has a lower level of heat and sound insulation than windows of Finnish designs.

  • The design of Finnish windows consists of a frame onto which two sashes are fixed - wooden and aluminum. The wooden part is internal and is equipped with double-glazed windows. Tinted, anti-vandal, solar control or regular single glass of greater thickness is mounted in the outer aluminum part of the window. The total thickness of the window frame can vary from 95 to 210 mm, depending on the number of cameras in the double-glazed window.

The design provides for simultaneous or alternate opening of the inner and outer doors. To ensure these processes, a metal rod is provided in the lower part of the space between the external and internal sashes, on which special open window latches are located.

The disadvantage of this design is the impossibility of opening the frame sashes in different planes. The “disadvantages” include the fact that the windows are very voluminous and have a large mass.

However, the obvious advantage is the high degree of thermal insulation, since the air cushion formed between the doors reliably protects it from loss of internal heat, and also serves as a barrier to external cold air.

Finland, like many regions of Russia, is famous for its cold winters, which is why a design was created that can withstand very low temperatures.

This type of window frame is perfect for installation in a private home, if, of course, its homeowners are satisfied with the principle of opening the sashes.

  • Windows made using Swedish technology, just like Finnish ones, consist of two sashes - an internal wooden one with a double-glazed window installed in it and an external one with a single thick glass. However, the advantage of this design is the possible connection of the outer and inner doors, which makes it possible to simultaneously open them both wide open and in a folding manner.

The thickness of the window structure also varies, but usually ranges from 90 to 105 mm.

Aluminum-wood frames

In this version of the frame, the base is the aluminum part, that is, the structure itself is made of metal. And wood performs a decorative function and enhances the insulation provided inside the aluminum profiles. In any case, touching a wooden surface is always more pleasant than touching an aluminum one.

Prices for combined frames

combined frames

For production of internal cladding wooden part of the structure Typically, valuable wood species with a dense structure are used - this can be beech, oak, ash and others.

Aluminum-wood frames can have a double opening design ( swing - folding) or be sliding.

The strength of this type of frame is quite high, but the thermal insulation parameters are somewhat lower, in contrast to wood-aluminum products.

Frames made of wood and plastic

Another option for combined frames are products made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and wood. They, like those made from wood and aluminum, can have two combinations, that is, a wooden frame and a plastic cover and vice versa.

  • Wood-plastic frames are most often made from laminated veneer lumber, which makes up the main part of the structure. Plastic performs a protective and decorative function, and is also an element of additional insulation. This type of product has the same thermal insulation qualities as wooden “Euro-windows”, but the presence of plastic protection from moisture and ultraviolet radiation makes the structure more durable. A sealed gap is left between the two materials, which smooths out the stress that can be created due to temperature changes, since due to the different structural structure of the materials, their expansion parameters are also different.
  • Plastic and wood frames. This option is closer in its technical characteristics to metal-plastic frames, since the main part of them is made of this material, and wood serves as a decorative frame. However, it should be noted that wood also serves as an effective heat insulator, since its linings are thick enough to perform this function - about 8÷10 mm.

Since plastic is not a “breathable” material, and rubber gaskets make the structure absolutely airtight, it is recommended to choose frames that have elements of fresh air ventilation.

From the side of the frame it is impossible to distinguish them from completely wooden structures, but their cost will be slightly lower.

Both the first and second versions of frames, made of wood and plastic, can have double opening mechanisms - hinged and folding. But if you wish, you can refuse the second one by placing an order for the manufacture of a window.

Combined window options are distinguished by increased technical characteristics and long service life. Due to The fact that frames of this type are more difficult to manufacture, their production is carried out by serious companies with the appropriate equipment. And this, in turn, means that the risk of running into a low-quality fake is reduced.

The main disadvantage of combined products is their high cost.

If we talk about the popularity of combined frames, then we can put in first place wood-aluminum structures, the second one is made of aluminum and wood, respectively, the third one can be safely given wood-plastic, and the fourth is plastic-wooden.

Naturally, for residential heated premises you should choose “warm” options, otherwise you should not expect any comfortable microclimate in the house.

A few words need to be said about the care of combined window systems. To maintain frames in good condition, special care products are used for each material separately.

For example, it is not recommended to treat wood with organic substances, detergents and nitro varnishes that contain acid. To give wooden linings an aesthetic appearance and not harm breathability, it is periodically coated with paint or varnish, preferably water-based, oils of natural origin or special wax.

Aluminum structural elements must be put in order with solutions made on the basis of silicone, which allows you to preserve the original aesthetic appearance. In order to mask damage on metal parts, window correctors specially designed for this purpose or aluminum resin are used.

The plastic parts of the structure can be easily cleaned with a soapy solution applied to a soft cloth.

Developers do not stand still, and the result of their scientific and technical activities are new materials for window structures. Above were presented the most popular options for installation in private homes.

Double-glazed windows

Due to the fact that frames made of different materials are equipped with double-glazed windows made according to the same principle, the description of this structural element is summarized in one section.

To begin with, it is worth considering the design of a double-glazed window - what it is in principle.

When developing double-glazed windows, engineers foresaw and eliminated all the shortcomings of standard windows by installing ordinary glass secured with glazing beads. Energy saving is achieved thanks to the following design features:

  • A sealed inter-glass vacuum space or a space filled with a specially selected gas.
  • Placement around the perimeter of the double-glazed window of a chamber containing hygroscopic granules designed to absorb moisture that can form due to temperature changes.
  • Sealing of interconnected glasses is carried out using a permanently plastic vulcanizing sealant, which not only insulates the space between the glasses, but also removes the load from them during temperature changes.

Double-glazed windows can be single-chamber, double-chamber or three-chamber. The quality of heat and sound insulation of the premises depends on the number of cameras.

There are conventional and energy-saving double-glazed windows. The latter differ from ordinary ones in that one or more glasses are coated with a metal coating, which limits the spread of infrared radiation.

If you decide to purchase frames with energy-saving packages, then when choosing them you should pay attention to the following points:

  • Energy-saving bags are produced with two types of coating - hard, designated as k-glass and - i-glass.
  • The solid spraying option has the worst light transmittance, reducing natural light by 20%, but has higher strength.
  • i - glass is mounted by spraying inside the structure, since it can be easily damaged during cleaning.
  • A single-chamber double-glazed window equipped with i-glass can reduce heat loss by 30÷40% compared to a double-glazed window with standard glass.
  • A two-chamber package with two i-glasses, in terms of its heat saving characteristics, corresponds to brickwork 700 mm thick.
  • In addition to energy-saving glass, light-protective glass is also installed in double-glazed windows, reducing the penetration of sunlight by 30–70%, depending on the selected tinting spectrum. Such options are perfect for installation in panoramic glazing or in windows facing the sunny side of the house.

  • Noise insulation. A noise-insulating double-glazed window is somewhat different in its design from the usual one in that the chambers have different thicknesses, for example, if in the outer chamber the distance between the glasses is 60 mm, then in the inner chamber it is twice as large. The outer glass has a thickness of at least 6 mm. Thanks to this design, street noise in the premises is practically inaudible. This option is simply necessary for a house whose façade faces a busy highway.

At the request of the customer, energy-saving and light-protective glass can be installed in the structure soundproofing glass unit.

If there is no need to install light and soundproofing glass, then experts recommend for houses located in central Russia to use double-chamber double-glazed windows with i-glass. And for warmer regions, single-chamber structures are quite suitable.

Leading window manufacturers

Most double-glazed windows sold in the Russian Federation are, to a certain extent, imported products, since the components for them are imported from abroad. Assembly installation is most often carried out on site in companies that are partners with manufacturers of profiles and fittings.

The quality of window structures depends both on the manufacturers of the source material and on who performs the installation. In every region of Russia, more than a dozen companies are engaged in window assembly, so it is impossible to list them all and identify the best. But many manufacturers of profiles and fittings are known not only in Russia, but also in other countries of the world.

Wooden and combined windows

Frames for conventional wooden windows are manufactured in all regions by local manufacturers. Therefore, this type of structure in terms of the quality of material and assembly must be selected at the place of their production, having studied in advance consumer reviews that are already using the products of one or another company or individual craftsmen.

The assessment of “Euro windows” is usually based on the authority of manufacturers of profiles and fittings.

Windows from Finnish manufacturers

They can be called the most popular on the Russian market, as they have proven themselves to be reliable energy-saving designs. Due to the fact that the climate of many regions in our country is similar to Finnish, products made according to this principle have taken root well in the cold Russian winters. The most famous brands of Finnish windows are Tiivi, Lammin and Skaala, so it is necessary to say a few words about them.

  • "Tiivi"- this company has been supplying wooden and wood-aluminum window designs. During its work, the manufacturer took one of the first places in the ranking.

Tiivi window sashes and frames are made from high quality northern pine and painted with water-based paints and varnishes. This allows you to preserve the surface of the frames in their original form for as long as possible.

Prices for double glazed windows

double glazed windows

The company produces four types of window structures - “Tiivi 1+2” (optimi), “Tiivi 1+3”, “Tiivi 2+2”, “Tiivi” fixed window with triple glazing.

The most affordable options in terms of cost are the “Tiivi 1+2” (optimi) and “Tiivi 2+2” designs - this is explained by the simplified configuration of the aluminum profile and the minimum number of opening doors. The window frame of these models is made of three-layer laminated veneer lumber. The glass of the double-glazed unit has a reflective coating, and its internal space is filled with argon. The thickness of the outer glass is 4 mm, which reduces the level of external noise to 33 dB.

The windows are equipped with Finnish-made fittings. There is a choice of colors, which allows you to choose the desired shade to match the façade appearance of the house. Another advantage of these designs is the possibility of using blinds installed between the frames.

These models, as well as the Tiivi 1+3, can only be opened in one position - wide open.

"Tiivi 1+3" has all the characteristics listed above, but due to the wider box it is capable soundproof room to 48 dB. Accordingly, the thermal insulation of the room increases. The width of the box of this model can vary from 170 to 205 mm.

  • « LamminIKKUNAT"- this company uses exclusively knot-free selected coniferous wood to manufacture its products. The company produces frames for individual orders, taking into account the wishes of the customer.

Lammin windows have strong frames and a rigid frame, the wood of which is impregnated under pressure with antiseptic solutions. The lower part of the box is protected from external influences by an aluminum profile. Frames are made for two-chamber, three-chamber and even four-chamber double-glazed windows, the glass of which, at the customer’s request, can have a reflective layer applied to it.

The standard frame colors of this manufacturer are black and brown in different shades.

Lammin produces double-chamber structures with triple glazing, and unlike other models, both frames can be opened at the same time. The outer frame in this design option is made of aluminum profile. It reliably protects the internal wooden structure from natural influences.

All windows from this manufacturer show high heat and sound insulation qualities. They are excellent for installation in private houses built in regions with harsh winter conditions.

  • Company « Skaala" was founded back in 1956, and specializes only in the manufacture of windows and doors, both entirely from wood and in combination with other materials. The products of this manufacturer are distinguished by increased energy saving indicators, therefore they are in wide demand not only in Finland, but also in the UK, Sweden and Russia.

Each type of product of a certain design from a given manufacturer has its own name.

"Skaala Alfa" are wooden-aluminum frames with high levels of energy saving and sound insulation, which are most in demand among buyers. This design provides a protective coating for the glass against ultraviolet rays, as well as against freezing. The glazing consists of two double-glazed windows located at a certain distance from each other. The air gap formed between them is additional insulation.

“Skaala Beeta” - this model is also made of wood and aluminum and has 2+1 glazing. The inner chamber consists of two glasses, in front of the window block there is a frame with one glass 6 mm thick, which has a coating that protects it from freezing. It should be noted that this model, at the request of the customer, can be made entirely of wood, both in an opening and a “blind” version.

"Skaala Gamma" are triple glazed windows. They can be “blind” or opening, made entirely of wood or in a combined version - wood and aluminum. In the model with “fixed” glazing, the glass is installed along the front part of the window block; in the opening versions, the glass is separated by an air cushion. A completely closed design provides a higher level of thermal insulation, so if there are two or more windows in a room, you can install one model with opening sashes for ventilation, and make the remaining windows “blind.”

Swedish producers

There are not as many Swedish manufacturers on the Russian market as Finnish ones, but several companies still present their products. And they are, of course, not cheap. Therefore, many craftsmen take the design of Swedish windows as a basis and make them themselves. However, this is only possible if you have all the necessary equipment at hand, and you can only envy your carpentry skills.

  • "SP-Fonster" is a Swedish company specializing in the design and production of high quality wooden windows. The wood used for their manufacture is impregnated with antiseptic solutions, which makes the products resistant to moisture.

The company produces windows in standard parameters and according to individual orders, according to measurements taken and taking into account the wishes of the consumer.

The models offered by this company have the following designs:

- windows with double and triple glazing;

— windows equipped with energy-saving glass;

- windows with sashes that open outward or inward;

- rotating or top-hung sashes.

Other design options are also possible upon individual orders. Moreover, the company undertakes to produce frames not only of conventional, but also of non-standard shapes, for example, round or triangular. Craftsmen also take on more complex tasks, when it is necessary to install frames of different designs in one window opening.

Windows with triple glazing will provide a high level of thermal insulation of the house, which is especially important for Russian winters, and will also protect the rooms from external noise.

All models from this manufacturer undergo serious testing in laboratory and field conditions. Therefore, you can be sure that they meet all standards for acoustics, heat resistance, energy saving and are guaranteed for long-term, flawless operation.

  • « Hajom" Swedish company with a hundred years of experience in the manufacture of wooden windows. During this period, engineers developed many advanced technologies that made it possible to raise the quality of products to the highest level.

Hajom specializes not only in ordinary windows, but also in complex panoramic and sliding structures equipped with unique lift-and-slide mechanisms that allow doors to be opened with minimal heat loss from the room. The company makes its frames from elite wood species, such as oak, pine, meranti, iron and teak.

Products of the Hajom brand are supplied to retail markets in Europe, Russia, Canada, the USA and Japan. And everywhere they are in great demand among connoisseurs of real quality.

Naturally, the cost of window designs from this manufacturer is quite high. But it fully corresponds to the quality of products that will last for decades.

German wooden windows

German construction products have long won the trust of Russian buyers, as they are distinguished by high quality and durability. Wooden and combined windows are no exception. Thus, the products of the companies “KNEER” and “UNILUX” are in deservedly high demand.

  • KNEER company owns several factories for the production of windows, which produce products of any complexity, suitable for use in any architectural style. Wooden frames are made from high-quality wood of various species, including exotic ones. In addition to wooden ones, the company produces combined products - wood-aluminum or wood-patinated copper.

The most modern innovative technologies are used in the production of KNEER. For example, wood is treated in a nitrogen environment to achieve its optimal moisture content, not exceeding 5%. This factor directly affects the strength characteristics of the profile and its durability.

Products undergo strict control for environmental safety, therefore each KNEER product has a BIO system certificate. Which, you see, is important for the operation of windows in residential premises.

The energy saving index of wooden windows from this manufacturer even exceeds the Russian standard. Double-glazed windows have a protective coating against ultraviolet rays.

All KNEER products are accompanied by a five-year warranty, and the total service life promised by the manufacturer is at least 40 years.

All windows, without exception, are equipped with anti-vandal locking hardware, ensuring the safety of the home. If necessary, upon customer request, products can be equipped with additional protective elements.

All craftsmen working on frame installation, regardless of the location of production, are allowed to work only after an internship in Germany. This is how the manufacturer gains its professional reputation.

  • « UNILUX" is another well-known German manufacturer of wooden and combined windows, which successfully operates on the Russian market, since the products are perfectly adapted to our climatic conditions. UNILUX was founded in 1955, and in 2014 it became part of the WERU GROUP window production corporation, which allowed it to expand the range of materials for the manufacture of frames. So, now the company began to produce not only wooden and combined windows, but also metal-plastic profiles of the highest quality.

The range of products manufactured by UNILUX includes all of the above designs. Therefore, it is so wide that you can choose any option of the customer’s choice, based only on his financial capabilities.

Manufacturers of profiles and fittings for metal-plastic windows

The most popular profiles for the production of PVC windows on the Russian market are products from well-known German companies. The top three are “VEKA”, “KVE” and “REHAU”, which is why they are worth considering in more detail.

  • Firm "VEKA" entered the European market with its products in 1968. Today, products from this manufacturer are supplied not only to EU countries, but also to consumers in Russia, Brazil, India, Canada, the USA and China.

VEKA products have a high quality profile, a variety of shade designs, as well as a convenient design for opening the doors in different positions.

The profiles of this manufacturer perfectly retain heat and silence indoors, without missing the noise and cold outside. They are resistant to aggressive external environmental influences environment, easy to maintain and durable in use.

Today, VEKA Rus profiles are produced at several factories located in Russia. They are manufactured entirely using original technology and under the supervision of representatives of the parent company.

Six types of “VEKA” profiles are available, which have different parameters and have their own names:

— « EUROLINE»has a width of 58 mm and three cameras;

— “PROLINE” - width 70 mm and four chambers;

— “SOFTLINE” - width 70 mm and five cameras;

— « SWIGLINE» - profile width 82 mm and the presence of five chambers;

— “SOFTLINE 82” - width 70 mm and six or seven cameras;

— « ALPHLINE» - width 90 mm and six chambers.

The only drawback of this brand is quite high cost compared to products from other window manufacturers made of the same material.

  • "KVE" was founded in 1980, and during its work it has become one of the leaders in the European market in the production of PVC profiles and products made from them. KVE windows are designed for operation at high humidity and air temperatures from -60 to +80 degrees. The profiles are easy to care for; they show excellent resistance to external natural influences and household chemicals.

Frames made from profiles from this manufacturer are reliable and durable, as they are designed for operation for 45–50 years. They are made in white color and are able to maintain their appearance throughout the entire period of their “life”.

Windows are an excellent protection for the home from the cold, which will help significantly save on heating the building, as well as external noise, since they practically do not allow sound to pass through.

The KVE company opened its factories in two cities of Russia, so the profiles manufactured there are somewhat cheaper than German ones. In terms of quality, they are indistinguishable, since they are produced on imported equipment and are ISO certified.

"KVE" produces profiles, which, just like "VEKA", are given their own names:

- “Etalon” and “Engine” with a width of 58 mm and three cameras.

— “KBE Energy” - width 70 mm and three chambers.

— “Etalon +” - a modified “Etalon” with a width of 127 mm and four cameras.

— “KBE SELECT” - width 70 mm, five chambers.

— “KBE Expert” - width 70, five chambers.

— “KBE Expert +” - width 127 mm and five cameras.

— “KBE 88” - width 88 mm and 6 chambers.

The cost of KVE products is 20÷25% lower than that of VEKA products.

  • "REHAU" has been working in the field of profile production for more than 50 years, and during this period the company has managed to conquer markets in a large number of countries. Including Russia, where it has developed a network of representative offices since 2002.

Frames made from REHAU profiles, due to their high precision fit to each other, provide excellent sound and thermal insulation of rooms. In addition, the frames are equipped with elements of an anti-burglary system, so it is almost impossible to open them from the street. In combination with impact-resistant glass, the design provides reliable protection for the home from intruders.

When producing profiles, special additives are added to PVC - fire retardants, which prevent the frames from igniting and promote self-extinguishing of the material.

The profile surfaces undergo antistatic treatment, so they do not attract dust and dirt, which greatly simplifies the maintenance of frames.

The REHAU company, like the two previous manufacturers, opened an enterprise for the production of its products in Russia. The plant is equipped with high-quality German equipment and has an international certificate of quality for its products.

"REHAU" produces profiles for the manufacture of windows and doors of the following names and parameters:

— “BLITZ” - width 60 mm and three chambers.

— “EURO-DESIGN” - width 60 mm and three chambers.

— “DELIGHT-DESIGN” - width 70 mm and five chambers.

— “BRILLANT-DESIGN” - width 70 or 80 mm and 5 or 6 chambers.

— « GENEO» - width 86 mm and six cameras.

— « INTELIO» - width 86 mm and six cameras.

— “SIB-DESIGN” - width 70 mm, three chambers and a thermoblock, a total of five chambers.

The cost of REHAU products is lower than that of VEKA, but higher than the price of KVE windows.

Aluminum window manufacturers

The production of aluminum windows is quite difficult technological process, so you can’t do without special equipment. In this regard, when making your choice in favor of these designs, it is recommended to purchase products from trusted companies that have been presenting their products on the market for many years and have gained unconditional authority among buyers. Some of the best brands supplied to the Russian market for aluminum window and door structures are Schuco, Reynaers and Profilco.

  • « Schuco" is a German company that can be called a leader among manufacturers of aluminum windows. The company has been working in this direction since 1951, and at the beginning of its activities it supplied its products only to the domestic market. Today, Schuco systems are installed all over the world, or more precisely, in 78 countries, as they are easy to use, reliable, durable and have an excellent design. For glazing frames, this company uses products only from trusted manufacturers. The same applies to fittings.

Windows are equipped anti-burglary protection systems, which is important for private houses whose windows do not overlook the garden plot, but directly onto the street.

The profile has different thicknesses - 50, 65 and 70 mm, and is used for installing double-glazed windows with different numbers of chambers, which provides high thermal protection for the house in regions with different temperature ranges. We should also highlight the 105 mm wide profile, which has two seals - this option can be used in the harshest winter conditions. In addition, the thermal bridge installed inside the profile enhances protection from cold, which also eliminates the risk of deformation of the structure due to temperature changes.

"Schuco" produces both insulated and "cold" windows and doors. The latter are used for installation not only in private and multi-storey buildings, but also in airports and hypermarkets.

  • "Reynaers" is a large Belgian company producing aluminum windows. It supplies its products to 37 countries, including Russia. Reynaers products are distinguished by high quality, strength and durability, and are available in a variety of profile thicknesses and exterior color shades.

Recently, the company expanded its range by starting to produce, in addition to aluminum structures, combined frame options made of aluminum and wood. The latter have quite high popularity in the Russian market.

The most popular designs include frames made from the following profiles:

— « Reynaers CS 77" is a three-chamber insulated profile with a width of 77 mm, used for assembling doors and windows into which double-glazed windows can be installed. Insulation is achieved by installing in profiles of polyamide thermal bridges, which reinforced with fiberglass. Frames made from this profile provide buildings with excellent anti-burglary protection.

— « Reynaers CW 50" - This profile is used for assembling mullion-transom structures of panoramic windows or glazed roofs of winter gardens. " Reynaers CW 50" has a width of 50 mm, and the thickness of the thermal bridges depends on the region with which winter conditions the frames made from it will be installed. A double-chamber double-glazed window can be installed in this profile.

— « Reynaers CP 155" has a thickness of 155 mm and is intended for insulated door structures. The profile allows the installation of a sliding sash with a weight of up to 400 kg and a height of 3000 mm. The product has anti-burglary qualities, can be equipped with an electric drive for remote control.

Reynaers products are generally characterized as elite, environmentally friendly and of high quality at very reasonable prices.

  • "Profilco" - this Greek company was founded in 2001, but in such a short period of time it has managed to establish itself as a reliable manufacturer, responsive to consumer requests. New developments are made in the research center that is part of the company. In addition, sales offices are located in different countries of the world, through which buyers can order original high-quality products.

Profilco produces various types of profiles that intended for a variety of designs. For example, PR 50 is used in facade glazing and comes in three types:

— “Standard” – for standard glazing;

— “Structural” – for panoramic glazing;

— « Semi-Structure» l – for continuous glazing, when profiles and fasteners are almost invisible.

All three types have excellent sound and thermal insulation qualities. For example, “Standard” and “Structural” can be used for glass units with a thickness of 32 mm and thermal bridges up to 16 mm. “Semi-Structural” is intended for double-glazed windows with a thickness of 40 mm and thermal bridges of 24 mm.

— The insulated PR 63 profile is intended for creating window and door structures in which a 42 mm thick double-glazed window can be installed. Thermal bridge installed in the profile provides high sound and heat protection of the house.

— “Warm” profile PR 72 is endowed with increased thermal insulation qualities, which are provided by the EPDM rubber gasket and the overlap of the sash on the frame on width 8 mm.

— The PR 55 profile can be called intermediate between the “warm” and “cold” options. The product is designed for installation of double-glazed windows with a thickness of 32 mm.

— “Cold” profiles include products marked PR 52 and PR 43, into which double-glazed windows with a thickness of 32 and 24 mm can be installed.

— For sliding structures, the manufacturer has provided profiles PR 45, PR 35, PR 32 and PR 26. For “warm” glazing from these profiles, the PR 45 profile is suitable.

As can be concluded from the information presented above, for a private home you can choose any of the existing window options made from different materials. The choice will depend on the availability of financial capabilities, climatic characteristics of the region of residence, and the material of construction of the house. Of course, the external qualities of the windows also play a role. For example, for a wooden house it is better to choose frames made of wood or combined options - wood-aluminum or wood-plastic.

When choosing metal-plastic or aluminum frames for installation, it is important to ensure that they do not bear increased load, which in some cases a wooden structure can withstand. Therefore, before installing them, it is necessary to check the strength of the walls of the window opening and, if necessary, strengthen it in advance.

At the end of the publication, let me invite you to watch a video that gives a subjective comparative assessment of wooden and PVC windows.
