When choosing thickness, take into account finishing coat. For heavy finishing materials, a 12.5 mm sheet will be required. Imitation modeling made of polystyrene foam, which weighs extremely little, is even attached to arched gypsum boards.

Pay attention to the dimensions of the drywall. Standard width- 1.2 m, length - from 2 to 3.6 m. The parameters of the sheet must be such that it does not bend during installation. The dimensions of the room are also taken into account. The dimensions of the ceiling plasterboard should be selected in accordance with the design. So, for a spacious room it is better to take larger sheets to reduce the number of seams and joints, and for a small box it is worth purchasing gypsum board of the appropriate width - you will get a minimum of waste.

Ceiling plasterboard weight

According to GOST 6266-97, the weight of 1 m² of gypsum board with a thickness of 1 mm must comply with the following standards:

  • waterproof and regular - no more than 1 kg;
  • fire-resistant and moisture-resistant - no less than 0.8 and no more than 1.06 kg.

You can calculate how much weight the ceiling plasterboard will have on your own. Thus, the area of ​​​​a regular gypsum board measuring 1.2x2.4 m is equal to 3 m²; with a thickness of 9.5 mm, the sheet should weigh no more than 28.5 kg. Based on 1 sq. m will be approximately 7.5 kg.

Note! Calculating the load on ceilings, it is also necessary to take into account the weight of the metal frame and the finishing coating.

What type of edge to choose for finishing the ceiling

The edge of the plasterboard sheet can be decorated in one of the following ways:

  1. PC (SK)- straight, rectangular edge, dry mounted, joints do not require sealing.
  2. УK (AK)- thinned on the front side, before puttying, the seams are covered with reinforcing tape.
  3. PLC (HRK)- semicircular with outside, joined without reinforcing tape followed by putty.
  4. PLUK (HRAK)- semicircular and thinned on the front side, requires the use of reinforcing tape and putty.
  5. ZK (RK)- rounded edge on both sides; during installation, the joints are only puttied.

The sheet must have an edge that matches the type of finish. It is also necessary to take into account that ceiling covering made of plasterboard is susceptible to cracking. Therefore, before painting, the seams between the sheets are firmly sealed and smoothly finished.

For ceiling structures, it is better to choose PLUK or UK edges. They are designed to use a reinforcing mesh, which is covered with a layer of putty on top. Builders believe that a more reliable joint is made between sheets with a PLUK-type edge.

There are several reasons for this. A 1–2 mm layer of putty, which is applied to the edge of the crack, is not enough. Plasterboard construction experiences loads, the building shrinks, and changes in humidity affect the finishing. The putty must withstand this influence. Therefore, the seam is stronger if a sheet with a PLUK edge with a thicker layer of leveling mixture is used. But it is worth considering that the wider the seam (for UK - 90 mm), the less noticeable the bumps are. In this regard this type edges are more profitable.

Features of gypsum plasterboard storage

Before installation suspended ceiling the sheets must be dried. The material is left in a closed, warm room for 2–3 days. There must be at least 1.5 meters to the heating source.

Drywall is placed on pallets. If there is not enough space in the room, the material can be leaned on the walls. But you need to place it so that the angle with the supporting surface is as small as possible and the sheets are located almost parallel to it. They are covered with film on top.

If there is no frost or precipitation, drywall can be left outside, but for no more than 1–2 days. However, it must be in waterproof packaging.

For long-term storage GCRs are placed on pallets with a height of at least 10 cm or any other objects. If you leave a stack on the ground, the sheets may become wet and unusable. The material is covered with a film on top, protecting it from dust, contamination, and partly from mechanical damage. In this case, the material cannot be placed vertically, since it will deform under its own weight. It is not recommended to place more than 15–20 sheets in one stack, since the bottom ones may burst.

The temperature in the room for short-term and long-term storage of drywall should not fall below 10°C, the optimal values ​​are 16...18°C. The recommended humidity level is no more than 75%. A mandatory requirement is good ventilation, air circulation volume - from 3 m³/h per 1 sq. m.

If these rules are followed, the shelf life of gypsum boards is unlimited. High humidity and insufficient air exchange lead to the formation of condensation and mold, the top paper layer is destroyed.

GKL is a convenient, budget-friendly and aesthetic material for finishing an apartment. If you take into account the recommendations of experts regarding what type of plasterboard is best to use for the ceiling and adhere to storage rules, the structure will last for decades.
