In earlier times, there was a separate dining room in almost every house. But today it is increasingly being replaced by a simple dining group, consisting of a table and chairs and placed in one of the rooms. A completely acceptable option, given the small composition of the modern family and the current lifestyle.

In an apartment, the dining area is usually organized in the kitchen or living room. Both solutions can be attractive, if, of course, you do not make the following mistakes.

Mistake #1: Not enough light

Even in gloomy weather and in the evening there should be light here, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to eat and communicate. Therefore, there is no place for thick curtains in the kitchen - you should prefer light, light curtains.

In the living room, of course, options are possible: the functional tasks of this room are broader - it sometimes requires both a bright, solemn atmosphere and a calm, intimate atmosphere, which is created by heavy curtains. So the main thing is to maintain a balance of dark and light and provide additional lighting for the dining area.

In general, it’s difficult to overdo it with light in the table area. It is only important that it is not direct, striking in the eyes, and does not cast deep shadows on faces: this can ruin the mood of even unassuming and patient people. Therefore, top lighting is preferable here to side lighting - it is better not to use sconces.

Multi-arm chandeliers or groups of hanging single lampshades are suitable: there can be two or eight of them - depending on the length of the dining area and the size of the lamps themselves. At the same time, they should hang low enough so that the light is focused above the table - this way the food looks more appetizing, and the couverts seem unusually beautiful.

Another advantage of this solution is the ability to adjust the light intensity. Lamps in a chandelier and shades can be turned on, say, in pairs, if you use double and triple switches. It’s good when they have a dimmer - for smooth adjustment of the brightness of the light.

But if the living room is small, this option may be too bulky for it. Then it is better to limit the size and number of lamps, and use more glossy surfaces and mirrors.

In the kitchen the situation is similar: in most of our city apartments, the kitchen is, to put it mildly, small. So many pendant lamps and large chandeliers are contraindicated for her. Glossy surfaces are not a solution here either - they are not very practical.

Therefore, you need to make the most of natural light and built-in ceiling lights by hanging one height-adjustable lamp above the table.

Mistake #2: choosing the wrong place for the table

In the kitchen The dining group is most often placed opposite the work area - the wall where the kitchen unit is located. This is the norm. But not for narrow, long and small rooms of 6-8 square meters. Here, such a solution leads to a loss of ergonomics of the entire space as a whole: it aggravates the cramped space in which both the process of cooking and eating are extremely awkward. The most successful option for placing a table in such kitchens is a place by the window.

Firstly, there is no way to put a refrigerator or stove here, and placing a sink is very problematic, given the need to relocate communications. Therefore, the window area is usually not used, but works like the rest of the space, which is very important when there is an acute lack of space.

Secondly, the table by the window is illuminated by natural light - it’s nice to sit at it with a cup of coffee both in the morning and at sunset. Especially if the window offers a picturesque view of the city or park. Or if you just like to watch street life.

It happens that in order to enlarge a small kitchen, it is connected to a loggia, and if this is the case, then placing a dining group in it is the most rational solution.

Between the kitchen and living room, when both rooms are small and therefore combined into one space, you can also successfully arrange a table for daily and holiday lunches and dinners. This option is optimal if no more than six people are expected to dine.

But if there is very little space in the kitchen, there are three more super-compact options - a wall-mounted table-shelf and a folding or extendable table.

They can be hidden in kitchen cabinets or folded against the wall, protruding only 10-20 centimeters above its surface. Such tables are practical and save precious space. Similar ones are produced, for example, by the Italian brand CLEI.

True, for a meal with more than three people they are still a bit cramped. Therefore, if the family is larger, the best solution is a transformable console table.

Thanks to the folding mechanism, this narrow table can expand two to five times - up to a full-size dining table, and when folded - stand against the wall, taking up very little space. In addition, there are models that have space inside for storing folding chairs.

Another advantage of consoles is their mobility: they are lightweight and among them there are often copies on casters. So the kitchen console table can be moved into the living room if necessary - this is the best solution if you have to save every centimeter. But if there is no such task, it is better to consider your options for the living room.

Dining table in the living room- a special hypostasis. Kitchen tables are not suitable here. In general, the purpose of any interior item is determined primarily by style and design, and secondly by size and material. Therefore, looking at the table, we most often immediately understand whether it is for the kitchen or the living room.

It is unlikely that anyone would assume that their place is in the kitchen - it would be a mistake to put them there. But in a modern-style living room, especially a small one, these types of tables are a rational and beautiful solution.

In addition, if a sofa is used as a seat in the dining area, then an adjustable height transformer is simply irreplaceable. In daily use, it most often plays the role of a coffee table, turning, when necessary, into a full-fledged dining table.

Mistake #5: Wrong chairs

When chairs are not included with the table, you have to select them yourself: they must suit it not only in style and color, but also in height and width.

Typically, the seat height of a dining chair is 45-48 centimeters, that is, 25-30 cm lower than the top of a traditional table. This is exactly the difference needed to make sitting at dinner comfortable. However, this parameter was calculated taking into account the average height of 165 centimeters. Therefore, for those who are significantly shorter or taller, standard tables and chairs are not very comfortable.

The table is not a problem: transformers come to the rescue here. Adding height to the seat of a chair is also easy - all you need is a thick cushion that you can put on it. But chairs with a low seat are a more difficult task: they will apparently have to be made to order. You can, of course, use a sofa instead if the dining area is in the living room. Just keep in mind that it is also much deeper than a chair.

The ergonomic seating depth at the table is 40-45 cm, so sitting on a regular sofa at lunch is uncomfortable. Either the backrest turns out to be far away - you can’t lean back on it, and therefore your spine is in constant tension, or you can’t reach the dishes. If the table is moved close to the sofa, then it will be extremely difficult to get out from behind it. In general, it’s uncomfortable, no matter how you look at it. So the only acceptable solution is a sofa with a transformable backrest depth.

Another important parameter when choosing dining chairs is their width. Moreover, it should be measured not by the seat, but by the widest element of the structure. For regular models, this is the base of the legs; for variations with armrests, this is the distance between them.

True, using the latter option in the dining area would be a mistake: chairs with armrests look massive, due to their large width they steal useful space at the table, limit access to it during lunch, and do not slide under it completely - all the way to the back. They are only suitable for the ends of the table.

  • Tell your friends:

One of the most important rooms in any home is, of course, the living room. But no living room is complete without a table.

A large round table, which is a sign of harmony and well-being, is best suited for a guest room.

At first it may seem that such a piece of furniture is huge and not very convenient to use, but this is not so.

If you place it correctly in the living room, it will be better than a rectangular table both in appearance and functionality.

5 reasons why you should choose a round table

Of course, such a table will take up a little more space than a table with a rectangular surface, because it cannot be pressed tightly against the wall. However, it looks more luxurious and richer than other tables.

Let's look at the five main reasons why people choose round tables.

Countertops without corners are better for small rooms. Even if all the furniture is arranged correctly, you will accidentally hit corners, but a round table is safe.

This is especially true for homes with small children, because they are very active, which can lead to injuries due to corners.

A round table is much more comfortable than corner tables from a psychological point of view. After all, at such a table everyone is equal in status and can freely communicate with each other.

Unlike a square table, a round table can seat more people.

By choosing chairs that fit the curve of the tabletop, you will save additional space.

From the point of view of designers, a round table looks more elegant, original and luxurious than conventional tables with rectangular surfaces.

How to properly place a round table in the interior?

Like any piece of furniture, it’s not enough to just put a round table in the living room; you also need to choose the right size of the table and place for it.

If your guest room has a rectangular rather elongated shape, then you should not place a table in its center - it will look better by the window.

At the same time, the size of this piece of furniture itself should be small, but you can purchase a transforming table.

And if your living room has a square shape and is spacious in itself, then a round table will effectively fit even into its middle. In such rooms, a table with a round surface is the brightest detail of the interior.

There are round rooms, and if your living room is one of them, then a round table will look good in it too. Although this combination is quite rare.

Remember that in a guest room a table with a thin tabletop and a fairly small base will look more elegant.

Other tables may look too massive, which will ruin the interior.

Naturally, when choosing the design of a round table, you need to take into account the style of the room itself. In most cases, round tabletops are suitable for any interior, but such a table looks more impressive in a classic style.

Massive tables made of dark wood are ideal for classics, but in small rooms it may seem too large. And round wooden tables with white shades are more suitable for Provence style rooms.

Glass helps to visually reduce the size of furniture. Choose a table with a glass surface or a transparent plastic top.

The model is suitable for interiors designed in high-tech or minimalist style, especially if you add the same chairs to the table.

And if you put transparent chairs together with a wooden table, you get a spectacular creative solution for rooms in a modern Art Nouveau style.

How to properly set a round table?

Finally, it’s worth figuring out how to properly arrange dishes on a table of this shape.

It is better to use the very center of the round tabletop for decoration, because reaching for dishes in the middle of the table is inconvenient. Place a vase with fresh flowers or juicy fruits in the center - just not too high, otherwise it will be awkward for the participants in the meal to communicate with each other.

Now you know that a beautiful round table is the perfect addition to any style living room. It adds coziness and elegance to your interior.

Photo of a round table in the living room interior

For all homeowners who have the opportunity to dedicate an entire room to a dining room or find space in the living room to organize a dining area, this publication dedicated to choosing a table and its attributes may be of interest. An impressive collection of design projects for living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens and even libraries with dining tables will give you a wide range of choices of this important piece of furniture for the whole family. Many color options, the use of different materials for the manufacture and decoration of dining tables will help you make your own correct, bold and, possibly, creative choice.

If you have a separate room for organizing a dining area, then choosing a table is a key point in planning the design project of a room for eating, communicating and hosting parties, receptions, and receiving guests. The table will be the focal point around which the entire interior concept of a dining room or living room with a dedicated dining area is built. And around the table there will be chairs, auxiliary furniture and interior items, cabinets, shelves, chests of drawers, and only then the walls, floor and ceiling. If you move in this direction when designing the dining room space, you can achieve a successful interior design of the room, where it will be pleasant to gather not only for all family members for lunch and dinner, but also for family, friends and family in your home.

Let's look at specific examples of what types of dining tables there are, what they are made of, what stylistic trends they are intended for and how they are combined with the rest of the furnishings of the room.

If your dining room or the area in the living room that you have allocated for organizing a dining area has the shape of a square, circle, semicircle or oval, then a logical option for placing it as a dining table would be a model in the form of a circle. A dining table with a diameter of 1 m is considered standard for a family of four. To calculate the diameter of a table designed for a larger number of people sitting, you will need to know in advance what model of chairs or even mini-chairs will be placed around your focal point. On average, for each person sitting, it is necessary to allocate 0.7 - 0.8 m of space, but it all depends on the body type of your household, the model of chairs and the size of the eating and socializing area.

The dining area shown in the photo is part of the spacious living room and is highlighted only with the help of a square carpet. The design style and color scheme of the dining group with a round wooden table corresponds to the general decor of the living room interior.

It is logical that in the dining room, which combines the functionality of a library, the table has the shape of a circle, as a symbol of a meeting not only for meals, but also for communication, discussion of pressing problems and achievements. The solid wood from which the dining set is made also makes reference to library spaces filled with wooden furnishings.

Of course, a round or oval table can seat more household members or house guests than their rectangular counterparts. In apartments and households where there are small children, rounded forms of furniture are a priority and will not require special protective reinforcements for corners and bevels.

In a small eclectic room that combines the functions of a dining room, a place for relaxation and communication, it is possible to place such a small round table on one stable support. The plastic table model is universal in its design and color scheme; it can become an organic addition to almost any interior.

This dining area in warm, pleasant colors of natural origin also carries another functional load - a room for wine tasting. All the necessary paraphernalia, including a wine refrigerator, is located in the closet, which serves as a screen for the adjacent room.

When placing the dining table not in the center of the room, but near the wall, it is important to remember the required distance from the table to the surface of the walls or doors - at least half a meter.

The dining room, located in the bay window space, with a round table and matching wooden chairs, is made in the Provence style with a natural color scheme in beige tones.

And this original dining room gravitates toward the Moroccan interior style with its layering, neutral palette of finishes and bright decorative items. A round dining table with black chairs upholstered in leather organically complemented the decor of the European room.

In order to bring a little luxury and sparkle to the dining or living room, you can use a dining table with a mirror or glass top, laminated and glossy finish of the material. When choosing a table or a separate tabletop for it, it is important to make sure that all edges and corners (if any) of the glass material are well processed, especially for homes where there are small children.

The spacious and bright dining room, which also doubles as a library, harmoniously accommodated a dining group in dark colors. Carved wooden chairs with upholstered seats, together with a dining table with a glass top, created a luxurious ensemble for a meal for eight people.

When you have such an unusual table with an original design, you don’t have to worry about the non-triviality of the entire dining room setting. The design of the dining group will attract attention, and the neutral finish of the surfaces of the room will be an excellent backdrop for this.

Place a glass top on the most ordinary dining table, and you will see how not only your central piece of furniture, but the entire dining ensemble will be transformed. This is especially true for rooms where glass is used as inserts in cabinet doors, display cases or interior doors.

The original dining group made of dark wood with a mirrored top of a spacious table is certainly worthy of being the center of attraction of everyone's attention. All additional furniture in the room is made from the same natural material as the dining ensemble and forms a harmonious interior with a non-trivial appearance and a pleasant, warm atmosphere.

The octagon-shaped mirrored table isn't the only unique piece of furniture or decor in this eclectic living room. Natural shades and motifs in the decoration of the room and the choice of decorative items created an incredibly personalized, unique interior where luxury and opulence meet practicality and comfort.

Table for interior in classicism, baroque, rococo style

For a living or dining room in a traditional setting, you need a matching table - reliable, durable, impressive, but at the same time elegant. Of course, among the favorite materials for making classic tables is solid wood or its veneered variation.

The contrasting interior of a classic dining room involves a harmonious combination of shades of dark wood and a soft, neutral palette of furniture upholstery, textiles and room decoration. The presence of shiny, mirrored surfaces in the interior adds glamor and luxury charm to the environment.

Another example of a classic dark wood table and chairs, the frame of which is made of a similar material. The use of a combination of chairs and armchairs of various colors, textures and models in the dining group brings some relief from the severity of the decor, an element of brightness and individuality to the interior of the dining room.

When planning the creation of a dining room, it is important to take into account the possibility of two exits from the room - into the kitchen and living room or a common corridor, onto the stairs. If there is 1.5-2 m between the working area of the kitchen and the dining room, then this distance can be considered favorable for a comfortable stay in both areas.

It’s not often you see such a monochrome dining room interior with black wallpaper. The fact is that an incredibly beautiful carved dining table literally requires a worthy environment - wooden chairs with ornate carvings and contrasting upholstery, black and white decoration of the room and the colors of the carpet, and, of course, luxurious chandeliers and decorative items with many shiny elements.

A table made of wood, unpainted but polished, varnished, sometimes in a deliberately careless manner, with a touch of brutality in decoration, has become a hit for organizing a dining area in a modern interior. A living room, dining room or any other room in which there will be a dining group, decorated in a modern style, can combine in its decor elements of country, modern, minimalism, as well as loft and eclectic styles. It should be noted that the presence of a wooden table does not always mean the need to install chairs made of a similar material; modern style allows the use of plastic, steel and a combination of materials within one design.

A wooden table with chairs made from the same type of wood, equipped with soft leather seats for comfort, became the focal point in this slightly decadent dining room.

And this is an example of a dining table made of light wood, which set the tone for the entire living room environment in warm, beige tones.

A simple square-shaped dining table, matching the design of the dining area, made of bleached wood perfectly supported the Provence theme in this bright kitchen-dining room.

Another example of a dining area in a Provence style room, but this time with a rectangular table that can accommodate eight family members or their guests.

It is logical that homeowners who have the opportunity to allocate a separate room for a dining room would like to use the available space rationally and occupy at least the walls of the room by installing bookshelves. The result is something between a library and a dining room, which can also be used as an office as needed.

If you want to recreate the feel of a medieval castle in your dining room, with its stonework, wooden beams, fireplace and candles, then a large carved wooden table is a must. Place chairs that are as comfortable as armchairs around the ancient masterpiece, hang a chic chandelier over the dining table with an abundance of hanging elements and light bulbs imitating candles - the medieval dining area is ready with a modern twist.

A country table does not have to be located in a living room or dining room, made in one direction or another of country style; modern interior style quite harmoniously accepts furniture made from natural materials.

Surprisingly, a wooden table in its simplest design has become the center of attraction in a modern living-dining room with a contrasting white and black interior, perhaps this was because the dining table is the only piece of furniture filled with the warmth of a natural material.

And in this eclectic dining room, a wooden table with benches and chairs by Ames designers became the basis for the concept of combining natural materials with modern household items and methods of decorating the premises.

Modern trends in the organization of both personal and functional spaces are increasingly tending towards minimalism, simplicity and conciseness, paying tribute to simplicity of execution, clarity of shapes and lines, neutrality of the color palette and the presence of unusual, designer decorative items that necessarily carry a practical load and are endowed with a certain functionality.

This is the very simplicity, practicality and desire for spacious rooms that minimalism is endowed with like no other style in the interior. The dining table of an incredibly simple design, together with plastic chairs and a seat built into a niche, formed a strict and laconic dining group.

The dining table, simple in design and execution, can accommodate ten people, who will sit in comfortable chairs, each taking up a lot of space. The dark gray palette of the dining group has a color combination with the kitchen area, and the whole room looks very organic and balanced.

The light dining group, strict in design, is located in the dining room with bookshelves. The dark gray tone of the room's decoration serves as an excellent backdrop for the light wood of the dining table and the white chairs of the famous design.

Spaciousness and scale, light finishes, a minimum of decor and accessories, simple but durable and reliable furniture - everything for a dining area in a minimalist style.

A simple but impressive wooden table looks original in a campaign with colorful chairs. The art objects on the walls and the original lighting system add uniqueness to the interior of the dining room.

In a dining room with such an abundance of warm, woody tones, it is difficult to imagine any other dining material other than wood. A spacious table in a combination of different types of wood and original chairs to match it became a harmonious focal point of this room. A non-trivial approach to lighting the dining area completed the image of a warm and cozy, but at the same time modern dining room.

This dining area cannot be denied originality - the table legs are made of the same shiny material as the pendant lamp, the upholstery of the armchairs goes well with carpeting and textile wallpaper. The entire interior gives the impression of luxury and prosperity, placed in a shell of coziness and comfort.

Folding dining tables are a convenient piece of furniture in everyday life, especially for spaces with very limited space. But such models also have some disadvantages - less strength and stability compared to their monolithic counterparts. If the area of the dining room allows you to use a non-dismountable dining table, then it makes sense to choose this option for organizing the dining area.

The sand-ocher shade of the dining table with an unusual design, original soft chairs on a steel frame with leather upholstery, discreet finishing and elaborate decor - everything works to create a unique interior of the dining room in the Art Nouveau style.

The bright, rich, contrasting and simply incredible interior of this living-dining room with an abundance of color and design solutions, textures and shapes needed a dining table in calm tones, a logical and durable design with a shade to match the floor covering.

We will look at photographs of living rooms in the interior of which there is a dining set, and talk about what techniques help to separate the dining area from the corner with upholstered furniture.

A table in the living room most often appears in cases where our small-sized housing does not allow us to place it in the kitchen. I wrote in the topic about how to choose a suitable-sized table that can accommodate the whole family, and calculate how much space needs to be allocated for it in a small room. We’ll assume that you’ve already sorted out these questions, so let’s move on immediately to how to harmoniously integrate a dining room set into your interior design.

As you know, the most effective way to divide a living room into zones is through various kinds of partitions. This is a good option for a large area, but not always successful for small rooms, because... compresses space even more. In our case, to achieve the desired effect, it is better to use interior items, such as screens, shelving, a large flower in a floor pot, etc.

Often in a small living room there are only two zones - a corner with upholstered furniture and a dining table with a set. To separate them, sometimes it is enough to place a sofa, armchairs and a TV stand so that they form a closed rectangle. The rug will further enhance the island effect in the room. Everything that is outside his zone will be perceived as not belonging to him, but in the interior of the living room it will look natural.

To separate the dining area from others, you can use visual techniques - painting (or wallpapering) the wall on which the table or buffet is located in a color contrasting with the rest of the decor, decorating it with large posters, paintings, using different floor coverings (by color, material or invoice).

A good result can be achieved with the help of artificial lighting. Use two ceiling lights: one above the table, the second in the area with the sofa. Additionally, install sconces or floor lamps. When, during a family dinner or a party with guests, the dining area is illuminated from above, and the sofa and armchairs are illuminated from below, the room turns into a welcoming dining room. By switching the light in the reverse order, a cozy corner with upholstered furniture will come to the fore, and the table will fade into the background.

In conclusion, a few more general tips that will help give the interior of a small living room with a dining table a harmonious look. All zones should be balanced with each other and only one of them should have a bright accent that catches the eye.

Traditionally, for living rooms, the center of the interior is a soft corner with a TV; you can attract the attention of those entering the room to it with the help of a carpet or a large picture above the sofa. As for the dining set, its role in the design of the living room is secondary, which means that it should not stand out in style and color from the overall harmony. Tables for it are usually chosen with a shiny wooden or glass surface; they are not covered with a tablecloth - this is done only for serving. The rest of the time, there may be vases with neutral floral arrangements and fruit on the table. Bread bins, salt shakers, napkin holders, and cutlery are not allowed.

Under the influence of bright textiles, the shine of metal utensils, dishes and glass, the set table should draw attention from the soft corner to itself. So, correctly placed accents will help you turn one small room into two: a spacious dining room for eating and a cozy living room for relaxing.

The living room is one of the most spacious and presentable rooms in a house or apartment. Traditionally, the living room serves as a place where people gather to communicate, share meals, and hold special events. The key figure in the interior of this room is often a large table. It is he who unites people around him, being the center of the composition.

Purpose

The use of a table in a modern living room has become much wider than it was a few decades ago. The realities of modern life have expanded the scope of the functional purpose of this room itself, and at the same time the functionality of the table:

  • Dining: This is a traditionally large structure in terms of height and tabletop area, which is intended for a meal for a certain number of people. Its variations in execution can be very diverse, as well as the materials from which it is made;
  • Coffee table: a low table with a small area is a decorative detail of the interior, intended to place a small number of items on it - magazines, a couple of cups of coffee, a bowl of fruit, a candlestick with candles;
  • Computer: designed to work with a computer, can be small in size or vice versa, equipped with a system of additional drawers, stands, and separator boxes;

  • Desk: classic model with drawers or a cabinet. Designed for working with papers, writing, reading. Traditionally, it has a rectangular tabletop with a niche for placing feet;
  • Serving: a small table, usually having 2-3 tiers and wheels. Designed to facilitate setting the main table, performing a transport function from the kitchen area to the living room area. Sometimes it is used instead of a coffee table;
  • Transformable table: this is a universal piece of furniture that can combine two types of purposes in one design. It is used to save space in a small room, turning into a full-fledged dining table when used in its unfolded form.

The working surface of any table can be used for a wide range of needs of people living in the room. The main deciding factor for this is the height as well as the surface area.

Kinds

The table is chosen depending on the area of the room. Large dining units are placed in the kitchen or in a large room in a country house. Compact options are most often used in small apartments. This household item can be selected for any function, taking into account the dimensions of the room:

  • Collapsible models: consist of a base and removable elements added to it, which are attached to the table if necessary, and the rest of the time are stored separately;
  • Folding models: all parts of this design, due to certain mechanisms, can be folded out, increasing their usable area, and folded back to their original compact dimensions;

  • Models on wheels: used for serving types of small tables, or for small magazine models. Some options may be foldable, and they need wheels for easy movement around the living room areas;
  • Set with chairs: used as a single system, consisting of a large dining table and a set of 6-8 chairs for it. A classic modular living room traditionally contains such a set of items. Usually these are luxury brands made of expensive wood;
  • Built-in option: A table built into furniture has become a common folding option. So, a set of cabinet furniture for a kitchen or living room may well include such a detail.

Countertops are also varied - it can be a traditional rectangular version, square, round or even oval. Materials for manufacturing are used from expensive solid natural wood to particle boards made from wood products; in addition, tables can be found from glass, plastic, and wicker rattan.

Dimensions

The size range when choosing a table for the living room is not limited by anything other than the dimensions of the room itself where it will be installed:

  • Large tables: the usable area of the tabletop is determined based on the number of people planned to be seated. The height of a standard dining table is 70-75 cm, which corresponds to a comfortable seat for a person of average height. The shape of the tabletop is selected depending on the overall design of the room, while hygiene standards provide for the width of one seat within 60-70 cm;
  • Small tables: the design does not provide for any functional load other than decorative. This table does not need chairs; it can stand alone or next to upholstered furniture. Tables that are small in size and low in height can be installed several times in one living room, their height does not exceed 35-55 cm, and the area of the tabletop can be arbitrary;

  • High tables: modern living rooms often combine the function of a minibar. The design of such a room requires a high table, reminiscent of a bar counter. The height of such structures varies from 70 to 92 cm, they are made on long legs, and the legs are most often made of chromed metal, and the tabletop is made of glass or stone - artificial or natural. The high table is equipped with several bar stools equipped with high legs;
  • Low tables: are used when people will sit at it on carpets or pillows. This interior style implies oriental motifs. The tables are decorated with intricate carvings, ornaments, and inlaid with stones; their height does not exceed 30-35 cm.

Whatever your table is, the main thing is that you feel comfortable and comfortable when using it.

Form

The shape of the table is selected taking into account the configuration of the room and its area. If you like originality, give preference to a round or oval shape. When the functionality of the table is more important, the choice falls on a square or rectangular design.

Visually strict outlines are the most ergonomic, as they take up less space, and all of it, without a trace, is useful for serving and seating guests.

There are other forms:

  • In addition to classic shapes, the hexagonal shape of the dining table is used for living room design. He looks extravagant and unusual, however, he is able to gather at least 6 people around him. It is used during business negotiations in the office; it would also be appropriate in the kitchen.
  • Polygonal table options also exist; as a rule, these are low small tables in oriental style. They are inlaid with mother-of-pearl, carvings, and ceramic inserts. The legs of the structure can be carved or supplemented with drawers.
  • The triangular table is a rare phenomenon, but it exists. This form is designed for three seats. A very convenient option for a small family. In addition, small coffee tables are often made in this shape - they look miniature, but at the same time the tabletop area is rather large.

Materials and colors

The quality and cost of furniture made from solid natural wood will undoubtedly be several orders of magnitude higher than structures made from wood products. But everything has its own nuances: natural material requires special care and maintenance so that the surface does not begin to deform due to temperature changes and moisture. Tables made of wood chip materials coated with a protective laminating film are considered more resistant to external influences.

The color of the film can successfully imitate the shades and colors of natural wood. At the same time, such furniture looks no worse than natural furniture.

Tables using glass surfaces are interesting in design. This material is durable, but requires delicate handling. The glass chosen for them is thick and tempered. The appearance of a glass tabletop can be matte or glossy, it is decorated with engraving or spraying. Such models look presentable.

Metal elements are often used for table designs. Forged parts, or the entire base of the structure, create individuality and unique beauty of the furniture. Metal is often combined with glass or stone. Decorative or natural stone used for the countertop makes it durable.

An important role in choosing a table for the living room is played by its color. The ideal option is the one which will be combined with the overall color of the entire room, repeating it or, on the contrary, contrasting with it. Designers consider white to be the most effective color, as it creates solemnity and a special aristocracy in the interior. In contrast, but no less spectacular, black or wenge are considered. These colors go well in any interior and look very solid.

The most common is the walnut color with all its variations; shades of ripe cherry and mahogany are also considered one of the classic options.

Location

Before purchasing a table, you need to decide where it will be located - the shape, color and size of the structure depend on this:

  • Large dining tables are positioned so that you can freely approach it and place a chair on either side;
  • In the middle of the room: Placing a table in the center of the room makes it a living-dining room. If the model is quite massive, the table and chairs are not removed anywhere after the meal. It plays a key role in the design of the room, being its basis;
  • Table by a window: Placing a table by a window allows it to be illuminated by sunlight during the daytime. In addition, if there is an interesting landscape view from the window, the table will only emphasize this advantage of the room;

  • A table against the wall: when dividing a living room into zones, a place for a table is often installed along one of the walls. This placement saves space in the room and allows you to emphasize other equally important details within it;
  • Table in the corner: this method of placement helps to make maximum use of the entire space of the room, giving it to various functional needs. The table in the corner does not take up much space, but performs its functions perfectly;
  • Table in a niche: if the room has a certain space between two walls, such a niche can be equipped with a place for a dining area. This option can have a lot of seats, and practically does not take up any territory;
  • Small tables that serve a decorative role can be placed anywhere in the room, as well as folding options.

Styles

Modern offers of furniture production surprise with their diversity. You can choose a table for the living room in any style and price range. The style of models can vary in the following main directions:

  • Classic: such models are distinguished by the consistency of their design, shapes and materials. Classics never go out of fashion, successfully combining with almost all interior compositions;
  • Modern: furniture in this style looks like it has been deliberately aged, with rough processing of wood fibers. This is a fairly popular modern trend, used in the living room, kitchen, office, and catering;
  • Empire style: the forms and decorations of such elegant designs are reminiscent of palace decoration with its excessive luxury. The abundance of silver or gilding, turned legs, carving decoration, floral patterns - all this reflects the trends of antiquity with a peculiar sophistication;

  • Provence: Rustic minimalist tables are very cute in the simplicity of their designs and colors. They are characterized by pastel shades that emphasize their natural origin;
  • High-tech: a modern approach to the style of such tables combines artificial materials, metal, and glass. The shapes of such tables are clear, precise, and laconic. The furniture is practical and reliable, suitable for modern interiors of residential or public spaces;
  • Ethnicity: such models are made of wood, rattan, straw, stone, glass. Their style is unique, it is simple, but kind and reliable. The table shapes do not have an abundance of decorative elements; they themselves represent a single unique design element.
