After completion of construction and finishing works There remains a lot of unnecessary lumber. It would be a shame to throw away these pieces of boards. Therefore, a logical question arises: are there any crafts from scrap boards that you can assemble with your own hands using simple woodworking tools?

It turns out that if you use your imagination, you can come up with a lot of useful things that can be collected from seemingly unnecessary waste. In this article we will look at a number of examples in which you can use scrap lumber to obvious benefit.

Waste lumber is an excellent material for various crafts.

Ideas for using waste lumber

Let's consider what products can be made from scrap boards in your free time.

The list of crafts that we will discuss below includes the following categories:

  • a country stool is a necessary thing in everyday life that you can not buy, but make from improvised means;
  • a chair that will serve not only comfortable element surroundings, but will also become an interior decoration;
  • lamp shade, which will look natural in the interior of the house;
  • New Year tree, which will come in handy on the eve of the winter holidays.

Of course, the list of crafts is incomplete, so you can add your own ideas to the ideas already proposed by leaving a comment on this article.

Assembling the stool

To assemble the stool we will need:

  • cutting boards 60 cm long and at least 2 cm thick;
  • self-tapping screws for assembling all the parts together;
  • paint and varnish materials for finishing finished product.

Tools you will need:

  • wood hacksaw;
  • screwdriver with drill function;
  • sandpaper to level the cut line;
  • brush;
  • container for mixing paints and varnishes.

Natural wood has always been considered relevant in interior design. Today the tree is still relevant. However, to replace massive boards A neat and comfortable lining arrived. And many people wonder what can be made from the lining that remains after repair work?

Types and advantages of material

She perfectly smoothed out all the shortcomings of her predecessors and preserved best characteristics, including an attractive appearance:

  • Anyone can handle it, and the price has become much more affordable.
  • This material has become widespread due to its excellent characteristics.

Note. The name “lining” comes from the fact that this type of lumber was originally used to close the gaps between the boards of freight cars.

Now this type of material is so widely used that there are already several basic types of lining:

  • Regular or eurolining.
  • Block house.
  • American.

And in order to start making anything from lining with your own hands, you need to know the main characteristics of each of these types.

Characteristic

So:

  • This is a long, narrow, flat board that has a groove on one side and a tongue on the other.
  • It's pretty high quality.
  • WITH inside for ventilation it is equipped with special grooves. The width of one board is from 100 mm, the length is from 2 meters.
  • The profile thickness is usually 12 mm.

In the photo you can see crafts made from the remains of classic lining:

Beautiful coffee table

When laid, the house block imitates round logs:

  • In fact, only one side is semicircular.
  • The thickness is usually 36 mm, and the length is from two to six meters.
  • But the width completely depends on the width and varies from 90 to 190 mm.
  • This lining is made from coniferous species wood

The last type, the American one, resembles a wooden beam:

  • As the name suggests, this type came to Russia from America.
  • The profile is made in the form of a rectangular trapezoid.
  • One part is thick, the second is narrow.
  • The thick one is from 22 to 40 mm, the narrow one is from 14 to 28 mm. It is mainly used for outdoor installation facades.
  • It must be laid strictly from bottom to top horizontally. The wide part is installed overlapping, while the narrow part is on top.

Note. But in some types and styles of interior, American is also used. However, you need to know when and where it will be best to install it indoors.

Furniture from lining: we do it together

In fact, the scope of application of lining is not limited to façade cladding alone. This material can be used quite successfully in many other areas.

Indeed, what’s so difficult about it is to take the bottom and a couple of sheets of lining. But you can build more interesting things.

For example, you can make excellent furniture from lining with your own hands:

  • When constructing furniture, you must first assemble wooden frame, which in the future needs to be covered with clapboard.
  • Moreover, you can assemble absolutely any furniture from lining: from kitchen cabinet before country bench. Here you are limited only by your imagination and ingenuity.

With the help of lining you can not only, but also assemble functional wardrobe. Making such crafts from clapboard with your own hands is much easier than it seems at first glance.

Functional wardrobe

It must be assembled on the basis of a wooden frame.

Collecting must be done in strict order:

  • First we assemble the rear and front frames. It is necessary to assemble 18 and 1.8 meters and fasten them with metal corners.
  • You can do without them, but then you will need screws at least sixty centimeters long.
  • The floor or bottom can be constructed from a thick sheet of plywood or OSB board.
  • From behind using self-tapping screws or construction stapler fasten the opposite wall. It can be made of laminated chipboard.
  • Then we fasten the back frame and the back wall together using anchors. The main thing is not to forget and set everything according to levels. Otherwise, the cabinet will turn out a little crooked.
  • After this, we attach 0.5 meter beams to the frame.
  • We fix them with anchors.
  • We attach the front frame to the ends of these beams.
  • To give the entire structure more rigidity, we attach the front frame to the ceiling and floor with anchors.
  • Inside we install guides on which the shelves will be installed.

If you plan to make a built-in wardrobe on the balcony, then instead of the walls of the back wall, ceiling and floor, the floor and walls of the balcony itself can serve perfectly.

It makes sense to install such a cabinet only on glazed balcony. Otherwise, it will quickly deteriorate under the influence of weather changes in temperature and precipitation.

The video in this article will help you see what comes out of this.

We use the remains of the lining correctly

The lining is especially suitable for decorative decoration walls:

  • From the remains of such wood, you can build, for example, additions in the form of plinths or planks.
  • Pay special attention to their docking.
  • Make interesting accents in your interior. Fit many scraps to one size. They should be square.

Paint them white and black. Now choose the most suitable area of the room and design it as chessboard:

Note. In addition, you can build completely different compositions, just paint the wood in the desired colors.

A flower pot

Lining allows you to decorate interior elements.

For example, sometimes you can make a work of art from a simple pot:

  • Cut out the planks. They don't have to be the same size. Glue them vertically onto a regular plastic pot. If one of the rooms has lining as decoration, then such a pot will look great there.
  • Residues can be applied in different interpretations, it would be a fantasy. For example, small shelves in the form of a ladder are now popular.

They place unusual figurines, small flower pots and other little things.

Wall decoration

If you wish, you can decorate a nondescript wall with a huge clock:

  • For this you need a mechanism, usually it is taken from any quartz watch, and the hands. They are taken from there or made independently. Make even sticks from the forcing. Draw a circle of the desired size on the wall.
  • Attach the mechanism and arrows in the very center. For the dial, glue it with glue or liquid nails cut out planks.
  • Make them in the form of Roman numerals. The bars and circle can be painted in any color, so this versatile watch will suit any interior.

Classic lining is excellent ecological material. It fits into almost all popular modern styles interior thanks to the natural structure and natural pattern.

Advice. However, do not overdo it and use it selectively and not everywhere, otherwise you will get the effect country house or baths.

Finally, about skirting boards

What can be made from lining, let's talk a little about skirting boards:

  • If we have scraps of more than ten centimeters, we will get a decent plinth. This could be a part of the floor, wall or ceiling.
  • And given all the complexity of such a material as lining, it can turn out quite interesting, especially if you paint the parts in different colors.
  • Especially if we are talking about high-quality forcing, the elements of which ideally fit each other in width.

And if this is eurolining, then its elements can be perfectly laid using specialized locks.

What to do if there are scraps left? And not 3 cm, but somewhat more?

This is not wasted money, rest assured. You can make many useful and beautiful things from terrace or facade boards to decorate garden buildings or improve your site.

WPC flower pots

The most common solution is a flower pot or flower box made from a terrace or façade board. It looks beautiful on the terrace, looks stylish and is 100% compatible in shades and texture with the main materials. The shapes of flowerpots can be very different: rectangular, square, triangular or trapezoidal.

Making a flowerpot from WPC with your own hands is very simple:

  1. Decide on the desired shape and size. Draw a simple sketch on paper and take measurements of the board you have. Prepare boards of the length you need.
  2. Make the frame of the future flowerpot from the remains of the logs. Attach the wood-composite board to the frame using self-tapping screws. Remember that it is better to drill holes for fastenings in advance, since the composite board is very durable.
  3. You can also make a frameless planter. Use regular aluminum corners to which you attach the board with self-tapping screws.

Flowerbeds

Here the scheme of actions is approximately the same as in the case of flowerpots. You just need a few more boards. If you install the structure for the flower bed directly on the ground in the garden, you do not need to make the bottom of the flower bed.

beds

Well-kept garden beds with clearly defined boundaries are not the luxury that many people believe. Special garden soil is usually used in the beds, and in the absence of limiting structures, it is washed away and spread throughout the area by rain. WPC beds will last for many years, since the composite, unlike wood, does not rot or warp. For garden beds, you can use both façade and deck boards.

Sandbox for children

Play with a child in the sandbox on garden plot- pure pleasure. Especially if the sandbox is safe: the boards from which it is made are smooth, without nicks, cracks or splinters. And without toxic paint. You can easily make a sandbox from the remains of a board: build a “box” - sides (a facade one will do, or terrace board), then install “benches” from decking boards on one or more sides.

Stalls

For garden benches You can use either a special composite beam or trimmings of WPC decking boards. The width of the seat depends on your wishes: two or three boards laid horizontally on the frame. To avoid board sagging, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for installing terraces: the distance between the joists should be no more than 35 cm.

Swing seat

Garden swing suspended on metal pipes or to a thick tree branch, they beckon you to sit down and sway a little. Make your child happy and make a durable seat from WPC decking boards. Take boards of the required length and secure them to a frame made of joists or metal corners. Think about hanging methods in advance.

Tool boxes, for firewood

If the boxes are on the street and attract attention, it is better to take care of them appearance. This is especially true for storing firewood on a terrace or in a gazebo with an outdoor fireplace. The principle of action is the same as in all previous examples: sketch, measurements, preparing the frame or attaching the board to the corners. If necessary, make a lid for the box.

Shelves in the gazebo or garage

Terrace boards can also be used for shelves. Prepare a base - long crossbars - for the shelves, and attach a decking board to them on top. The length of the crossbar must correspond to the width of the future shelf, and the fastening simply must be reliable, since the decking board has a lot of weight. Place the crossbars no more than 35 cm apart from each other, even if you do not plan to place heavy objects on them.

When using scraps of WPC boards, remember a few rules:

  • Take measurements carefully
  • Drill holes for fastenings in advance,
  • Use durable carbide blades for cutting,
  • Choose screws and corners from of stainless steel(they will not disturb the aesthetic appearance of your product over time).

Let your dacha be the most beautiful, stylish and well-groomed!

Country construction, repairs and decoration are processes that take up a lot of free time and finances, and when, after completing useful tasks, you notice a lot of remnants of various materials, it becomes a little disappointing for the money spent. But we won’t be upset, because all the leftovers can be put to good use and there is no need to throw them away..

Never rush to throw away construction waste and leftover building materials. Everything that was not included in the main work can still become useful for the dacha.

Crafts from plasterboard

Truly universal material It may also be useful to you in the form of scraps and broken pieces.

You can make the following from drywall:

  • Small vases for dry bouquets, you just need to cut the gypsum board into even pieces and fold it into shape using a mounting profile;
  • Various geometric figures for decorating country house rooms, gazebos and patios;
  • There's enough interesting solutions and for miniature pieces of furniture in children's rooms. For example, the same shelves, racks, different decor.

If you can no longer use drywall, give it to the kids, because with any piece of damaged material you can simply draw on asphalt or slabs, using the material like chalk.

What can be made from pieces of tin

This material it is very practical, because, like pieces of stainless steel, it can be bent into any shape. This makes it possible to create the most unusual crafts for the dacha.

  • First of all, this original lamps, which, with the help of metal scissors or a grinder, take on bizarre shapes;
  • Also, from similar material, thin steel or scraps of tin, you can make small country bins and ashtrays;
  • If the pieces big size, they can make good containers for flowers, even hanging ones;
  • You can also use stainless steel and thin steel for more useful things, for example, putting patches on cracked linoleum, using strips of tin to connect the joints of flooring in country house, make clamps for bolts and nuts, cut washers, tighten with pieces of material wooden buildings and fences, install them as a lining when tying up large tree branches so that their bark is not damaged by the rope.

Useful uses of leftover and off-cut boards

Almost anything can be made from wood, within reasonable limits, of course. Naturally, we are talking about garbage residues, because we already create many useful things in the country from solid lumber.

  • So, if there is a thin strip left, it can be used for boxes, just like, in principle, a small board with timber;
  • Trimmings furniture panels, for example, from a press, will become excellent containers for vertical gardening;
  • Larger boards can be sanded and cut into kitchen utensils– boards for chopping and chopping, coasters for hot dishes;
  • Naturally, if there are materials good quality, they are always suitable for country furniture - shelves and racks, small stools and chairs, shoe stands, etc.;
  • It is worth noting that sawdust also brings benefits in the country, but all our readers know this very well.

You can make a lot of interesting things out of wood, and therefore you shouldn’t throw away any of its remains.

If among the readers there are masters of wood carving, they will find another original use for all materials!

Useful scraps of OSB and plywood

Construction waste obtained from these materials will be a godsend for people with imagination.

But whatever you come up with, we have ideas too:

  • Birdhouse and - the first thing that comes to mind!
  • Further, and even for animals, where the material will serve as the base of the roof;
  • OSB and plywood scraps can be turned into quite good boxes for storing food and non-food products, a variety of bulk products;
  • An interesting idea is the use of pieces of plywood and slabs to create formwork for the construction of small architectural forms;
  • Such garbage can also participate in the production of country furniture, along with lumber, which was discussed above;
  • If you have a jigsaw, you can always cut original ones from leftover materials garden figures or their fragments.

Using old polyethylene

Besides, old film you can cover anything... the same piles of sand for construction, stacks of bricks or decorative tiles for arranging a summer house, bulk materials, feed. One has only to fold it several times, and even old and shabby polyethylene film will be a good protection against moisture.

Excellent will find application It is also under major construction. The film can be used to cover foundations and only poured areas so that the concrete does not dry out and crack in the sun.

In the issue of film, we moved a little away from the main topic of crafts and leftover building materials, but now we are returning to it.

Foam insulation: using scraps in the country

Most often, such materials are applicable before New Year holidays, since you can easily cut snowflakes and stars of a wide variety of shapes from them. But they can often be used for standard room decoration.

One side of this material is foil-coated or coated with reflective material. That is, it shines. This makes it possible to create bright shapes that will transfer sunlight to the walls, floor and ceiling. Such crafts look especially interesting when suspended, on a fishing line or thread.

Most often, all thermal insulation work where such materials are used occurs with insulation that is foil-coated on one side. But if you need a double-sided object, you can cut out two mirrored shapes and glue them together reverse side. Then the star, snowflake or figurine will shine on both sides.

Savvy summer residents find many other uses for penofol, for example, they additionally insulate the sides of greenhouses, make small portable refrigerators with their own hands, simply by sewing the material inside onto the walls small box. But the most fun use is sewing children's costumes and their various elements from the material.

DIY garden crafts (video)

Remains of plastic, polycarbonate, acrylic

  • First of all, various flashlights come to mind. We have studied with you many lighting options for the garden and dacha area, and therefore it will be easy for you to come up with lanterns and lamps made of plastic and polycarbonate, especially if the scraps of materials are colored;
  • Colored plastic and polycarbonate with shades in the decor of the fence look very good. Once we already raised a similar topic and even showed you photos of similar fence decorations;
  • From small scraps of acrylic you can make boxes and chests, which can perform both decorative and household functions;
  • In addition, these materials can fully participate in the production of garden figures. By combining wood, steel, plastic and other materials, you can make garden gnomes, fairytale castles, and various animals with your own hands.

Remains and broken bricks

We use this type of construction waste perfectly as backfill and materials for leveling holes. But today we propose to think about more useful structures.

  • These can be the same fairy-tale castles of a decorative nature, located in the garden, in which the brick will act as the base;
  • In addition, small lamp columns can be built from brick;
  • Application construction material It will also be found in the production of heavier and more permanent furniture, for example, as a base for benches or even under a table in a new gazebo.

What to make from PVC plastic panels

Wall and ceiling cladding, various buildings outside and inside with plastic - quite popular processes for renovating a dacha. But, due to the low cost of the material, or due to incorrect calculations, we often buy PVC panels with a reserve. Then, when the material remains, we think for a long time about where else it might be useful.

We have already mentioned certain options, but there are more interesting ideas:

  • A miniature fence made of PVC panels will last for several years until the material deteriorates due to the influence of atmospheric phenomena;
  • The material is also excellent for demarcating garden beds and flower beds. The result is a multi-colored and very colorful decor;
  • If we return to country crafts, then plastic can become the roof of small garden buildings, be used as gutters for collecting rainwater, or even serve as simple but quite attractive shutters for the windows of a country house, if you combine the panels with wooden beams.

Bulk mixtures and use of their residues

This can be either several scoops in a bag or a whole bag of material. Naturally, such material will not go to waste at the dacha - grease, seal cracks, repair garden paths And so on.

But mixtures can also be used in decorative purposes, for a wide variety of crafts.

  • We have already talked about how to produce decorative blocks for walls using the simplest, even homemade forms;
  • Also, they told you how to make a drinking bowl from cement, quickly and quite simply;
  • But you can use your imagination, select special molds and pour out whole figures for the garden, which will easily last up to ten years even under the worst outdoor conditions. You just need to process the finished crafts protective paints, which will give a brighter look.

Remains of ceramic tiles and mosaics

They say that materials of this kind are irreplaceable at the dacha, but mainly in economic plan.

  • The remains of the tiles can be used to decorate the base of the house to protect it from external influence;
  • The same material can be used to cover a new blind area;
  • If there are very few tiles, and they represent a battle, then, like the mosaic, it is worth moving it to the garden. Here you can decorate garden figures with pieces of multi-colored, glossy material with various patterns. For example, you are making a garden gnome... so now you don’t have to paint it, you can decorate it with pieces of tiles. A turtle from the remains of cement in the garden will receive an exclusive shell in the same way. Tiles or mosaics will serve as an unsurpassed finish and a small decorative pond in the country.

We have hundreds more tips in our arsenal, but we simply cannot fit them all into one article. We have mentioned almost all the popular materials used in the garden, and now you just have to focus on the fact that not everything should be immediately thrown into the trash, because any piece or scrap can be useful.

Crafts from building materials and beneficial use construction waste– topics are interesting and popular. Thousands of summer residents across the country every day come up with incredible decor from metal and wood, leftover foam and paint, scraps of polyethylene and dry mixtures. So why don't we try it? We are sure that with our experience the crafts will turn out just as good!
