One of the main religious festivals of the Muslim world is Ramadan.

This celebration takes its name from the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is celebrated by all adherents of this religion every year.

Due to the fact that Muslims associate the calculation of time with lunar cycles (every month begins counting from the new moon), their year turns out to be shorter than the solar one. Accordingly, the date of the beginning of fasting varies and usually occurs 10-11 days earlier than in the usual calendar.

It will not be an exception, so for everyone who follows religious instructions, it would be useful to find out the exact date of its occurrence. Indeed, during this sacred time, all devout Muslims must observe strict fasting, which includes restrictions not only on food, but also on entertainment and other carnal pleasures.

As already noted, the religious Islamic calendar is lunar and does not coincide slightly with the traditional solar calendar. Therefore, Muslims begin counting each month after the new moon. This unique time system has a significant impact on many festivals, including Ramadan. Moreover, the following point should also be taken into account.

The number of Muslims is very large and they live not only in the East, but also in many other countries of the world. Accordingly, the start time of the holy month may vary depending on the time zone

The date of Ramadan 2018 is already known. Based on astronomical calculations, May 17 was announced as the official start day of this religious celebration in Russia. The total duration of the holy month will be 31 days (its end will be on June 16).

Development of a unified Muslim calendar

One of the main problems of representatives of the Islamic religion, which has spread throughout the world, is precisely the difficulty with the simultaneous entry and celebration of Ramadan. The lack of an exact date often leads to the fact that in some states the countdown of the holy month begins earlier, and in others later.

Translated from Arabic, the word Ramadan means “hot” or “sultry” and directly indicates the fact that this celebration originally took place in the summer. However, limiting ourselves to the “hot” months is not entirely correct, because the specifics of the lunar year provide for a constant shift in the start date of one of the most important celebrations for every Muslim. Sometimes it can occur later, during the cool period.

In addition, this situation is further aggravated by different ways of calculating the exact date of Ramadan. Different countries may use different counting systems, which also does not contribute to the unification of believers around the world.

In order to achieve uniformity and avoid inaccuracies and associated confusion, the Russian Council of Muftis decided to develop and create a single Muslim calendar. It is planned that it will begin to be used in 2019

Representatives of the Islamic clergy hope that the transition to a unified calendar will eliminate discrepancies and will facilitate the simultaneous holding of religious Muslim festivals.

As Rushan Abbyasov (Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis and Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation) noted in his official statement, not only Muslims in Russia and the republics of the former USSR, but also all followers of this religion in different parts of the world will be able to switch to a single calendar. In addition, he shared some secrets of its development.

For example, when drawing up a unified schedule, the latest calculation methods and modern astronomical equipment will be used. This approach - in contrast to the traditional method of visually determining the phases of the Moon - will make it possible to calculate the beginning of each month with maximum accuracy.

Summing up his speech, Abbyasov expressed hope that this calendar will change the situation of followers of Islam for the better, namely, it will make their religious life more orderly.

Ramadan traditions

Contrary to the fact that the date of the holy month of Ramadan is constantly changing, the rules of conduct for Muslims during this time were determined hundreds of years ago and are strictly observed unchanged. Since ancient times, the ninth calendar month has been considered the most important and largely decisive.

During this period, believers rethink their actions, atone for their sins with strict fasting, that is, they experience a kind of physical and spiritual rebirth. In addition, a number of strict strict requirements for every Muslim helps to do a lot of work on oneself: to eradicate undesirable character traits, thereby showing commitment to Allah.

During the period of fasting, a Muslim believer should not:

  1. Consume any food and drink during daylight hours.
  2. Smoking hookah and cigarettes and other tobacco-containing products.
  3. Perform sexual intercourse during the daytime.
  4. Participate in any entertainment.

However, such severe restrictions still have exceptions. Thus, during the daytime, everyone who professes Islam is allowed to: wash, brush their teeth and perform other hygiene procedures. True, with one condition - the liquid should not get into the mouth. You can also, if urgently needed or medically indicated, give injections and donate blood for testing.

The ban on eating during the day resulted in the requirement of two meals a day.

According to ancient tradition, a Muslim believer should eat at dawn and an hour after sunset. These intervals are considered the best time to satisfy hunger

Each meal should begin with eating a small amount of dates (a few pieces) and wash them down with two or three sips of plain water. At the same time, you cannot skip meals, since such an action is a direct violation of the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad.

The great fast in Ramadan also includes spiritual cleansing. That is why all Muslims are prohibited during this period not only from committing sinful deeds, but also from driving out wicked thoughts. It is strictly forbidden to visit establishments such as casinos, clubs, bars and pubs, and you cannot play card games.

All this needs to be replaced:

  • diligently performing namaz;
  • reading the Koran;
  • distribution of alms;
  • physical and spiritual self-improvement.

Such godly behavior will certainly be rewarded by the Almighty. And not only after death, but also on earth.

Only pregnant (or just given birth) women, minors and people with mental disabilities can receive exemption from fasting for Ramadan.

The hottest and therefore most difficult month of the year is Ramadan (Ramadan), which is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. It is famous throughout the world for the fact that, according to Muslim tradition, it is carried out in strict fasting and prayer, accompanied by a number of strict restrictions, both moral and physical.

Every believer who professes this religion should know when Ramadan begins and ends in 2018, so as not to miss such a significant event.

When is Ramadan in 2018?

Due to the difference between the Islamic and European calendars, the annual timing of Ramadan (Ramadan) varies. In 2018 the month of Ramadan will begin on May 17th and end on June 16th.

What is the meaning and essence of Ramadan?

According to Islamic culture, there are five pillars for every Muslim that he is obliged to perform during his life.

Uraza is fasting during the month of Ramadan (Ramadan).
Namaz is the five obligatory daily prayers.
Shahada - according to this “declaration”, every Muslim undertakes to profess only the Islamic faith and honor only one god - Allah.
Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that should be performed at least once in a lifetime. However, some Muslims try to perform this action once a year on the holiday of sacrifice - Kurban Bayram.
Zakat is alms and should be given to those in need, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

The meaning of this Muslim fast is not to follow a diet, but to spiritual cleansing. Moreover, Muslims try to put in order not only the soul, but also the body, therefore there are a number of regulations prohibiting certain physical actions.

What is prohibited to do during Muslim fasting?

Take food and water during daylight hours. From the moment you can distinguish a black thread from a white one until the minute the colors of these threads become equal again, you should not touch food or water. Muslims eat twice a day: before sunrise, it is customary to eat dairy foods. You should end the day with fruit, often dates.

It is prohibited to drink alcoholic beverages, drugs, smoke hookah or tobacco. In addition, it is considered unacceptable to induce vomiting, so you should monitor the quality of the products you eat especially carefully.

The fulfillment of marital duty should also be left for the duration of the holy fast.

However, physical restrictions will be completely useless if moral ones are not adhered to. During Ramadan, it is forbidden to swear, swear, or quarrel. Evil thoughts, greed, envy and other unpleasant feelings should be suppressed. Because of such strict rules, the month of Ramadan is often associated with a time when even the richest and most jaded person can feel like they are in the shoes of the poor and share their fate.

The month of Ramadan is called holy and is a very important month for Muslims. At this time, fasting takes place, which is one of the five pillars of Islam.

The month of Ramadan lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the lunar calendar. Fasting begins at dawn on the first day of Ramadan and ends at sunset on the last day.

Important: In 2018, Ramadan falls from May 16 to June 14. The fast lasts exactly 30 days and ends with the holiday of Uraza Bayram, which will take place in 2018 on June 15.

For Muslims, fasting is considered an honorable act. After all, by doing this, a fasting Muslim strengthens his faith in Allah, cleanses himself from earthly sins and draws upon himself the prosperity of Allah.

During this Holy month, Muslims consider it honorable to do good deeds and help those in need. After all, Allah sees them, and every good deed is rewarded by Allah.

It is during the Holy month of Ramadan that people stop quarreling, being offended, and envying, reports the Ros-Register website. During this month, the hearts of believers unite in united prayer and love for Allah.

It is during this Holy month that both the soul and body of a Muslim believer are cleansed through fasting and prayer. The soul is filled with love and compassion for people.

The main condition is not to break the fasting schedule and not to miss prayers.

Important: Many people have a question about how to say it correctly - Ramadan or Ramadan? After all, both words are used in different sources. The answer to this question is clear: both pronunciations are correct.

In other words, Ramadan and Ramadan are one and the same. However, there is an explanation for this.

The letter dad exists only in Arabic. Therefore, Arabs pronounce this word as Ramadan. The Turkic peoples, in turn, say “Ramadan”, because such pronunciation is characteristic of their linguistics. Any pronunciation is not considered an error.

  • In 2018, Muslims will begin fasting on May 16 after the morning adhan - the call to prayer. The fast ends on June 14 after the evening adhan. On June 15th comes the holiday of breaking the fast - Uraza Bayram.

The month of Ramadan is considered sacred because according to legend, in the month of Ramadan, the Prophet Muhammad received the first verses of the Koran.
During Ramadan, it is customary to pray with special zeal and renounce the evils of life.

Fasting helps a believer to cleanse himself of sins, understand the true meaning of earthly life, pacifies souls, and teaches patience.

Ramadan ends with a big holiday - Eid al-Adha.

Important: Uraza Bayram is celebrated the day after the end of fasting. In 2018, the holiday of Uraza Bayram is June 15.

Friday 15.06.2018 Eid al-Fitr holiday

Preparation for this day begins in advance. It is customary to begin the holiday with general prayer.

  • Every Muslim must make a donation to the poor on this day; also on this day, Muslims go to cemeteries to visit deceased relatives, as well as visit each other.
  • It is forbidden to fast on this day and be sad.
  • The best dishes should be on the table, and clothes should be elegant.
  • In many countries this day is an official holiday.

Eid al-Fitr holiday

As you know, with hardship comes relief. This can be seen in the example of the fast of Ramadan and the holiday that follows it. It is difficult to observe fasting, but the joy after it is very great.

A Muslim who intends to fast should not forget about his intention to fast - niyat.

There are rules of intent, non-compliance with which leads to the fact that the post may not be counted. Consider these rules:

  1. The intention to fast is made on the eve of each new day of the month of Ramadan. The intention is pronounced after the last meal of the night, but in the second half of the night.
  2. If a person makes an intention at dawn, then his fast on that day will not be counted.
  3. When a person has doubts about pronouncing an intention at dawn or at night, then fasting on that day is also not counted.
  4. It is not necessary to say the words of intention out loud, you can say it mentally.
    Before pronouncing an intention, a person must understand the essence of this action - the desire to renounce all sins that could break the fast.
  5. If a person pronounces an intention without understanding the essence of what is happening, such an intention is also not counted.

Important: Words of intention sound like this “I intend to fast the day of Ramadan in accordance with faith and sincerely for the sake of Allah Almighty”.

Ramadan fasting requires eating and drinking only at night. During the day, a person should completely refuse food.

In the first days it can be very difficult to adapt to this diet. But prayers also help other people who are subject to the same goal. After all, together it is easier to experience all the inconveniences.
After a few days, the body gets used to the routine and fasting proceeds easily. Therefore, tune in to this and remember Allah will reward you for the right actions.

In addition, sexual relations during the day are prohibited. At night you can make love.

Food is only allowed to be consumed at night during the month of Ramadan.

  1. Aged people. If people, due to their health, cannot fast or make up for the fast afterward, they must pay fidya-sadaqah - a donation to feed one poor person per day. You can feed 30 poor people at once or feed one poor person for 30 days. If a person is old, but his health allows him to fast, he should fast.
  2. Pregnant or nursing mothers. Also, a woman who is breastfeeding someone else’s child may miss the post. In this case, you can skip the post if there is a real threat to the baby’s health, the risk of milk loss or the risk of miscarriage. In the future, such a woman will have to make up for the days of fasting; there is no need to pay a donation for fasting.
  3. Women who have started menstruating. On menstrual days, women should skip fasting, but then make up for these days. The fast of such a woman will not be counted, but out of respect for Ramadan she should not eat during the day.
  4. Hopelessly sick people. If a patient begins to fast and his health deteriorates, he must break the fast. If a person subsequently recovers, he will have to make up the missed days of fasting, and his fidyah sadaqah will be counted as a donation.
  5. Travelers and those at war are also exempt from fasting. However, they are subsequently required to make up these days.
  • Critical days or postpartum discharge;
  • Taking medications by swallowing;
  • Smoking, mindful intake of food and water;
  • Conscious intimacy
  • Getting water into your mouth when swimming
  • Inducing vomiting

If a person consciously commits sexual intercourse during fasting, he is obliged to atone for sin - fast for 60 days in a row.

Other violations require compensation for the day of fasting on which the violation occurred.

  • If a person ate and drank water, forgetting about fasting. If a fasting person suddenly drank water or ate, but immediately remembered and continued the fast, this is not considered a violation;
  • Involuntary vomiting;
  • You can taste food with the tip of your tongue without swallowing it;
  • Rinse your mouth or rinse your nose if water is not swallowed;
  • You can put medicines in your eyes and give injections (not vitamins or nutritional supplements);
  • Anointing and inhaling incense, bathing.

Muslim prayer

Important: At night during the month of Ramadan you can eat whatever you want. However, it must not be conveyed. It is enough to eat exactly the amount of food that is enough to renew your strength and satiate.

After sunset, you can put either one dish or several on the table. Breaking the fast begins with dates. At night you can eat whatever you like - soups, vegetables, meat, baked goods, dried fruits and fruits, cereals, fish, salads, etc.

Food during Ramadan fasting

Important: The Almighty said: “Eat and drink until you can distinguish a white thread from a black thread at dawn, and then fast until night.” These words became the basis for the Ramadan fast.

Ramadan: night meal

Studies have been conducted that have found that fasting Ramadan does not harm the body. Blood was taken from the volunteers at the beginning of the fast, during and after the end.
