The Internet is an integral part of our life. Lack of network is a serious problem for the user. You don't always have time to call your provider, but, fortunately, you can troubleshoot problems yourself. Below you will read about common causes of Internet problems and how to fix them.

Possible reasons for the lack of Internet on Windows 7

There are several reasons for the lack of Internet. Some of them relate to computer drivers and its equipment, others affect system errors and lack of correct settings networks.

The most common reasons for lack of Internet:

  • mechanical damage to the cable or ports;
  • lack of a network card or its drivers;
  • incorrect connection settings on the computer or router;
  • presence of viral software.

Internet may also be absent due to debt on personal account or due to a line failure. Before you try to troubleshoot problems, check to see if these issues are causing them.

How to check network status

Among the problems with the Internet, we can highlight those that are most common and occur periodically for most users. Resolving them can be very simple. The first thing to do is check the network status.

You can do this in two ways:

In both cases, your network status will be described below your network icon.

Unidentified network without internet access

If the computer “sees” the network and connects to it, but does not gain access to the Internet, the network status will be called “Unidentified network. Without access to the Internet." What to do in in this case?

The computer “sees” the network and connects to it, but does not gain access to the Internet

Reboot the router

If you have a router installed, the first thing to do is reboot it. It may simply not have time to update the data, and because of this, access to the network will be lost. The reboot is performed in the following order:

  1. First, the router is disconnected from the network. It is important to unplug the cord from the outlet, and not to reboot using the button on the equipment - you need to stop the flow of electricity for a while.
  2. Then the router should be left turned off for 10–15 seconds.
  3. After this, the router is connected back to the network and wait until the indicators on it light up.

After the indication appears on the router, you can check whether Internet access is available. Usually, after a reboot, the Internet appears within 7–10 seconds.

Checking network settings

Network settings are data that allows the computer to connect to the network distributed by the provider. These settings are issued by the company providing Internet access (usually they are specified in the service agreement). Sometimes the settings on your computer go wrong, and because of this, the device cannot connect to the Internet.

In order to check the network settings, you need to open “Protocol Properties”. You can do it like this:

  1. Go to “Control Panel” through the “Start” menu.
"Control Panel" is located in the right "Start" menu
  2. Select "Network and Internet".
In order to find the desired section, you should select the “Category” viewing option in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Open the Network and Sharing Center section.
In the Network Control Center you can check the connection status, create a new network, and carry out almost any action with your Internet connection
  4. On the left, find the “Change adapter settings” section.
Find the section "Change adapter settings"
  5. In the list of networks, select the one you need, right-click on it and find “Properties”. Only an administrator can open Properties.
The desired network will be called “Local Area Connection” or “Ethernet”
  6. In the list, find the item “Internet Protocol Version 4”, select it by pressing the left mouse button once. After this, the “Properties” button under the list is activated, you need to click on it.
Selecting an item is done by clicking the left mouse button once. There is no need to uncheck the box next to the item.

When the window is open, you still need to understand what settings should be entered. There are three options:

Let's figure out what the IPoE and PPPoE protocols are, but we won't go into terminology. It is enough to understand what protocol is used on your communication line. To do this, just look at the network settings issued by the provider (specified in the contract).

The settings can be the following:

  • password and login are used on the PPPoE protocol,
  • IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS are used on IPoE.

If you are using PPPoE and you are connected directly, that is, you are not using a router, after checking the settings through the protocol properties, you need to recreate the network.

  1. Return to Network and Sharing Center.
This way only PPPoE connection is configured. To configure a wired IPoE connection, use the protocol properties
  2. Open the “Create and configure a new connection” item.
Switching items is done by single-clicking the left mouse button
  3. Select "Create and configure a new network" and click "Next".
The selected item will be highlighted with a bright blue background
  4. Click on the "High Speed" option.
It may take several minutes to wait while searching for available connections
  5. If an error appears, select “Create the connection anyway.”
This error appears quite often, but the connection can still be created
  6. Next, you will need to enter the network settings, as well as the network name - this is the name of the connection. You can use the name of the provider company or something else.
The connection name is its name, and the username and password are the network settings. It's worth noting that the password has nothing to do with the Wi-Fi key

After this, the network will be reconfigured, and you will only have to check whether you have access to the network.

Resetting TCP/IP Settings

Sometimes problems can be caused by internal system errors. TCP/IP is a set of network protocols responsible for data transfer. You can reset it as follows:

Checking drivers

The reason for the lack of access may be outdated drivers (usually this problem is associated with a recent update of the operating system). Let's check their condition.

In addition, by right-clicking on the driver name, you can select “Uninstall”, and then restart the computer. Then when you turn on the system will automatically install the missing driver.

After removing the drivers and restarting the computer, the system will automatically install the appropriate drivers

If next to the driver icon there is Exclamation point, you will need to completely reinstall the drivers and check the functionality of the network card installed in the computer.

The default gateway is not available

Network diagnostics will help you detect the following problem. Right-click on your connection icon and select “Troubleshooting”.

By right-clicking on the icon you can open the “Network and Sharing Center”

If you receive a message about the gateway being unavailable after performing a system diagnostic, the following steps may help.

Prohibit disabling the network adapter to save energy

Sometimes the system turns off the network adapter - the device that allows you to connect to the Internet - to save power. Try disabling this option.

  1. Find "Device Manager" through the search bar in the Start menu.
Opening "Device Manager" through search is not the only way, but it is the most convenient
  2. Expand the “Network Adapters” tab, select the one you need, and right-click on it.
In the context menu, click on “Properties”
  3. Select "Properties" and open the "Power Management" tab.
Changing these settings will help solve the problem of the Internet disconnecting after the computer goes into sleep mode
  4. Uncheck the box next to “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” and save your data.
After changing the settings, do not forget to save them by clicking on the “OK” button

Updating or reinstalling drivers

You can also update drivers through Device Manager: expand the Network Adapters tab, right-click on the network driver and select Update or Uninstall, then restart your computer.

If the action does not help, you can download drivers from their manufacturers' websites and install them yourself. Typically, manufacturers offer to download drivers in an “.exe” file format, so to install, you only need to run the downloaded file and accept the agreement.

When connecting to the Internet through a router, error 651 occurs

This error occurs when trying to connect using the PPPoE protocol. It is rare, but it happens that users create a new high-speed connection while the provider is using the IPoE protocol. Therefore, first of all, make sure that you are using the PPPoE protocol.

After this, you will need to recreate the connection. The process is described in detail in the “Checking network settings” section (all you need to do is create a new connection through the “Network Control Center”). If this doesn't help, read on.

Disabling antivirus

Sometimes antivirus programs block access to the Internet. Often the solution to the problem is to disable the antivirus. Right-click its icon in the Control Panel and select Disable. Sometimes antiviruses block access to the network even in a “sleep” state, so you can try not only disabling, but also completely removing this software. If this action helps, please report the situation to antivirus technical support.

Problems with the router

The cause of the problems may be several problems related to the router:

  • incorrectly connected cable;
  • incorrectly entered settings.

First try the following:

  1. Disconnect the router from the network.
  2. Without connecting the router, unplug the network cable from it and plug it back into the WAN/INTERNET port, making sure that the plastic clip on the plug clicks when connected.
  3. If the cable goes from the router to the computer, disconnect it from the LAN connector on the router itself and from the network card connector on the computer, and then connect it back.
  4. Connect the router to the network.

If access does not appear, check the network settings entered on the router. In order to log into the router, you will need to enter “192.168.1.1” or “192.168.0.1” in any browser (in the address bar). Sometimes the address at which you can log into the router is different, so if you cannot log in through the specified addresses, check the information in the instructions.

Files cannot be downloaded from the Internet

It may also happen that Internet access is active, but files are not downloaded. This problem is usually associated not with the Internet itself, but with the computer and software.

What you can try:

  • try to download a file from another source - perhaps you are unable to download something simply because the resource does not support downloading;
  • try downloading through other browsers;
  • check your computer for malware using any official antivirus.

Multimedia does not work on the Internet

It happens that the Internet works, but video or audio materials are not played. What to do in this case? First, check if the files downloaded to your computer are playable. Perhaps the cause of the problem lies directly in the computer's sound settings. If files are played from your computer, but not from the Internet, read on.

The first thing you need to do is understand why this problem occurs. It may be a browser error or lack of plugins. To get your computer working properly, do the following:

PPPoE diagnostics

Additionally, in order to find out the causes of errors when using PPPoE, you can use the Troubleshooting Center. Then the system will independently check for errors and offer possible solutions.

PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) is a communication protocol over an Ethernet network that operates on a point-to-point basis and provides the user with a number of capabilities: encryption, authentication and data compression. It is necessary for the user authorization system, which makes it easier to track the time of provision and payment of network services.

Right-click the network connection icon and click the Diagnose Problems button. After this, an analysis will be performed, Windows will try to cope with the difficulties on its own, and then prompt you to perform several actions.

Error 619

Restart your computer and disable all security systems: antiviruses and Windows Firewall. The latter is disabled in the following way:

Error 633

There is only one solution:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Try connecting to the Internet again.
  3. Create a new connection.

Error 638

Main causes:

  • damage to the network cable;
  • malfunction of drivers or network card;
  • incorrect connection settings;
  • problems with network equipment (router);
  • presence of viruses on the computer.

First of all, do two things: check the integrity of the cable and the presence of indications on the router. Never neglect these steps when you have problems with the Internet, so as not to waste time trying to solve a problem caused by mechanical damage.

It is clear that if the cable is damaged, you need to call your provider. But if there is no indication on the router (which indicates that the device is de-energized), you should try reconnecting the router to a different outlet before replacing it.

After checking the functionality of the router and the integrity of the cable, check your computer for viruses with any antivirus program.

If the above does not help, recreate the network connection - check the correctness of the entered settings both on the router through its settings, and on the computer itself through the protocol properties. Both actions are described in detail in the previous paragraphs of the article.

Error 691

The only reason for error 691 to occur is an incorrectly entered password and login (network settings). Therefore, the first thing you need to do is recreate the connection. The process has already been described earlier - you need to go to the “Network Center”, select “Create a new connection” and then enter the correct network settings. After this, restart your computer and check your internet connection.

If the action does not help, report the problem to your provider. There may have been a line failure that caused the error.

Error 720

The easiest way to solve this problem is to reinstall operating system. To do this, just download the operating system file to disk from the Windows website (or purchase the disk in the store) and run it on your computer.

You can also try updating the TCP/IP protocol. The action is described above, but you can also perform a deeper operation by completely reinstalling the stack. Reinstalling the stack yourself is dangerous - you will have to work with system files, and their damage will affect the operation of the computer. Therefore, try simply updating the stack, and if the action does not help, contact your provider or professional technician for help.

Network cable not connected

If, when checking the connection status, a message appears that the network cable is not connected, the first thing to do is actually check that it is connected correctly and is not damaged. If possible, try using a different network cable.

Make sure the cable is connected correctly. On the router, the network cable must be connected to the WAN or INTERNET port, and the cable leading from the router to the computer must be connected to the LAN connector. There is usually only one port on a computer, so it will be difficult to make a mistake.

The WAN or INTERNET port is used to connect a network cable to the router, and the LAN ports are used to route cables to computers

Next, check the status of the router (if you have one). Its indicators should light up as usual. If there is no indication, reconnect the router to another outlet, try resetting the settings on the router (using the “Reset” or “Reset” button) and entering them again. You should reset the settings only if you are confident that you can configure the router yourself.

Also check the status of your network adapter drivers and try updating them.

Additional check of security settings

Security settings can also be to blame for many of these problems. This applies to the case when the PPPoE protocol is used. Therefore, if the proposed operations do not help solve your case, try checking your connection security settings.

  1. Open the "Network Connections" section.
  2. Right click on your connection.
  3. Open the “Security” section and set the use of “Unsecure Password” in the list that opens.

These are the main ways to diagnose connections on Windows 7 and troubleshoot problems. Do not forget that the reason for the lack of Internet may be a simple debt or a breakdown on the line. If the methods described above do not help you, contact your provider so that technical staff can diagnose and solve the problem on their end.

Many have encountered such a problem as the lack of Internet on a computer, laptop or other devices. In this case, the browser displays the message: “Web page is unavailable” or a similar message. Frequent culprits for this are: an accident on the provider's line, a malfunction of home equipment (router, network card, etc.) or incorrect settings. All this can be described in two words – “no Internet.” What should those who have a connection work, but web pages do not open?

This article talks about such situations and ways to solve this problem. In the last article I discussed the situation when .

The first step is to make sure that Internet access is really present and working correctly. As a rule, other programs that use the network work in this situation (Skype, ICQ, etc. are available).

But there are cases when they are not there, and it is not possible to install these applications. In this case, you can check the network operation using the command line. To do this, press the key combination Window + R and enter cmd in the window that appears. A terminal should appear in front of the user, where they enter the ping command (then you can try to enter the address of the Yandex website, for example, you will get - ping www.yandex.ru). If the described problem occurs, this command will display a message indicating that it is impossible to connect to the resource. But if you enter ping 8.8.8.8, a message about the successful status will appear.

The reasons for the problem when sites do not open can be different. This may be related:

  • problems with the DNS service;
  • the impact of viruses and malware;
  • incorrect proxy server settings;
  • incorrect host file configuration ().

DNS Service Issues

A common culprit in situations where the browser does not open sites, but access to the Internet is not blocked, is the operation of the DNS server. This problem can be determined in the way described above, when it was necessary to open the command line and ping the address of any resource by domain name and ip.

Each site has its own location identification number, called an IP address. There are many different resources on the global web and they all have a unique address. In order not to torment a person’s memory, it was invented to create a service that, when entering the name of a site (for example, Yandex), could determine its IP address.

Sometimes situations happen when the provider's DNS server does not work or the network settings in the router or computer are lost. The reason why website pages do not open has been clarified; it remains to explain how to solve this problem.

There are two possible solutions. If the network settings are lost, then here you need to correct them to the correct ones and, if necessary, reboot the equipment. In the event of a DNS failure, you can change the settings on the network adapter. To do this, click “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Network and Internet” - “Network and Sharing Center” - “Change network adapter settings.” Here, on the “Connected to a local network” icon, right-click and select the “Property” option. Then select the TCP version 4 item and in the window that appears, select the “Use the following DNS addresses.” Below in the window, enter 8.8.8.8 (public Google DNS server) or 77.88.8.8 (public Yandex DNS). Then click the “Save” or “Apply” button.

To check the operation, you can open the command line (Window + R – cmd), then you need to check the connection (for example, with Yandex). Enter the command ping www.ya.ru. If you do the right thing, you will be able to see information about the server response time below.

Impact of viruses and malware

Also, the problem when sites do not open in the browser, but there is Internet access and DNS is working, may be associated with the influence of viruses and malware. In this case, it will help to solve the question “Why don’t pages open in the browser?” system check specialized programs: AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free, Zemana AntiMalware, etc. These utilities allow you to find malware that is causing problems with opening pages on the Internet.

Incorrect proxy server settings

Another reason why sites are not displayed in the browser may be changes or entering data about an incorrect proxy server. At the same time, the computer is connected to the Internet and the connection works in all respects.
To correct this situation you need to go to your browser settings. To do this, go to the control panel, where you select the browser (or browser) properties item.

In the menu that opens, select the “Connections” tab and click on the “Network Settings” button.

Here, in the window that appears, they check all the parameters, and if they are not needed, simply erase all the information and select the automatic detection option.

After this, sites should display their pages in browsers.

Incorrect host file configuration

Also, the reason why pages of Internet resources may not open may be an incorrect configuration of the host file. This situation is unlikely, but still worth checking. The host file is designed to record domain names of sites and their IP addresses, but as a rule it is empty and sends all requests to the DNS server. Sometimes situations arise when a malicious program records some parameters and the browser becomes inoperable.

To check the file configuration, you need to go to the Windows system folder on drive C. Next System32\drivers\etc and open host with Notepad. As a rule, it has standard content as shown in the figure:

If, after the description of localhost (127.0.0.1), there are lines with information about any sites and their domain names, and the slash is not next to this data, then most likely the browser does not work properly because of them. To fix this situation, you just need to remove these lines and save the changes to the file. Then you need to restart your computer and try browsing the web again.

The situation when a computer is connected to a network, but sites are inaccessible to the user, occurs frequently. In the first place, this is a problem caused by failures on the ISP side when the DNS servers do not work. The second most common problem when Internet resource sites are unavailable is the impact of malware. In this case, it is recommended to have good anti-virus software and carry out preventive maintenance to detect viruses more often.

In contact with

One of the most common situations that I encounter in my practice is when a user has the Internet connected, but does not work. Why is this happening?!
The first place to start looking for a solution to the problem is to reboot all devices connected to Internet access - router, computer, etc. Very often this is the result of a small malfunction in one of them and is solved by a simple restart. If it doesn’t help, read on!

So, your Internet is not working. How are you connected to it? As a rule, in most cases, the connection is organized via a Wi-Fi router, then see whether its Internet access indicator is on or not. For example, on D-Link routers it is made in the form of a globe, but on most devices it is simply signed as Internet.

Does not burn? Check your router settings and, if everything is fine, call your provider's technical support.
But if the indicator lights up pleasantly, it means the connection is successful. Check access from other devices - tablet, phone or laptop. This way you can find out from which side you should look for the cause of the problem. Such cases, when a router connects to the global web and does not distribute the Internet to connected devices, happens one time in a thousand. Usually they are associated with a malfunction in its operation and can be treated by resetting the settings to factory settings, followed by a complete reconfiguration. More often it happens that there is no access from only one of the computers, while everything works fine on the others. Then you need to look for the “root of evil” already there.

If you are connected to the mobile Internet via a USB modem or WiFi module plugged into a USB port, try disconnecting it and reconnecting it. If it doesn’t help, switch the gadget to a nearby free port. Windows will reinstall the drivers and you can check again whether access is available or not.

Diagnostics of Internet connection in Windows 10

If the Internet is connected to your computer or laptop but does not work and you are sure that the reason lies in incorrect settings, then you should perform a few simple operations. Let's start by pinging some popular site. To do this, press the Win+R key combination to display the “Run” window:

In the “Open” line we type the command cmd. Click on the “OK” button to open a command line window. We type the command:

ping yandex.ru

If you don’t like Yandex, you can use Google instead. Press the “Enter” key and look at the result. If everything is in order, then you will receive something like this response from the server:

If you receive a response like this:

Then we type another command:

Ping 77.88.8.8

This is the IP address of the public DNS server from Yandex, which is always available. Alternatively, you can ping the server from Google - 8.8.8.8. If the PC has access to an external network, then the response should be like this:

If a node pings via IP, but the sites do not open, then this usually means that the Internet is connected but does not work due to the fact that the DNS server address is not specified (or incorrectly specified) in the network card settings. I will tell you how to do this below.

If you see this answer:

Then it’s worth checking whether the router is accessible. To do this, it also needs to be pinged. You can see what IP address is used on it on a sticker, usually located at the bottom of the case. It's usually either or. I have a D-Link router and it uses the second option:

If the router pings, but the node is not on the Internet, then the reason is most likely again in the router or in its settings.
But if the router is unavailable, this is a reason to delve into the settings of the network adapter on the computer. But before that, try disabling your antivirus and firewall, since very often they are the cause of most network problems.

It didn’t help and the Internet is still connected but not working?! Well, then press the Win+R key combination again so that the “Run” window appears and enter the command ncpa.cpl.
If everything was done correctly, a network window should appear. Windows connections 10:

Right-click on the connection icon and select “Properties” from the menu. In the window that appears, double-click on the line “IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” to get to the protocol parameters:

Here we try to set automatic receipt of addresses and again check the access to the global web.
Still not working? Then check the box “Use the following addresses”:

You need to register an IP address from the subnet of your router. If its IP is 192.168.0.1, then set the computer to 192.168.0.2. If the router uses 192.168.1.1, then the PC will have 192.168.1.2. Mask 255.255.255.0. You must specify the router address as the gateway. Register it as your preferred DNS server. Alternative DNS can be specified as a server from Yandex 77.88.8.8 or from Google - 8.8.8.8.

As a rule, after this Internet access appears. If none of the advice helped you, then I’m afraid you need to call professional specialist, who can determine the cause of the problem and can eliminate it. Good luck to all!

We have become almost dependent on the Internet. Without him we cannot carry on peacefully free time, communicate with your friends, look for information. Often the Internet becomes simply an integral part of our lives.

And of course, in situations where for some reason the Internet connection is interrupted, we are overwhelmed negative emotions. There is a desire to quickly find and fix the problem that could lead to such a shutdown.

In this article we will try to make life easier for those who may suffer a similar sad fate. We’ll just look at a few situations in which the Internet connection may be lost, and also give advice on how to restore it. And, of course, we will give some common reasons why problems with the Network may arise.

No internet connection. First actions

Let's imagine a situation in which you do not have the Internet. You understand that you would like to go to your favorite social network, watch a movie or perform any other action, but instead sit “waiting for a miracle.” The first step is to establish at what stage the error occurred. Here you should answer a number of questions and conduct several tests.

Have you had the Internet before, or is this the first time you started it after some updates? If the answer to the first part of the question is affirmative, then your task is to find the very changes after which access to the Internet disappeared. Otherwise, if you have changed something (for example, changed the router), you need to look for the cause of the problem, which is quite obvious. In this article, in order to learn how to determine the cause of a lost connection to the Internet, we will analyze all the nodes step by step and describe what questions may arise at each stage.

Provider

First of all, of course, the reason for the loss of the Network may be an error on the provider’s side. This is the initial link of our “network chain”. The reason for the loss of Internet access, in this case, may be, for example, non-payment for the next period of use. However, we will not talk about this in this article, since such problems are too trivial to focus on them.

It is not difficult to diagnose an error with a provider - just remember if this has happened before; ask your neighbors who have the same Internet if they have access; think about whether you changed anything in the system that could lead to a situation where there is no Internet connection.

Of course, if the whole point is really an error on the provider’s side, you won’t be able to do anything - you just need to wait or use the services of another company if such a disconnection occurs too often or lasts a long time.

Modem

Situations often arise when access to the Network is lost and the modem signals some errors. Then you need to turn to it - find out what exactly these or other signals on the device mean; try to understand why the connection disappeared. The most common problems in such cases are problems with the connecting elements (wires, adapters, weak contact somewhere at the input). Check them, disconnect and reconnect, and if possible, rearrange them and replace them with new analogues. After this, it will be clear what the cause of the problem is - in the modem itself or in the wires that directly serve to transmit the signal.

If the problem is in the wires, then replacing them with new ones will not be difficult; If it turns out that the problem lies in the modem, we recommend contacting it at service center. However, as a rule, the modem itself should not fail for no apparent reason. Perhaps part of the board burned out, or the device was damaged, but then this should have been preceded by the modem getting wet or failing. Thus, remembering such events, you can figure out why there is still no active connection to the Network.

Another situation may occur when an Intertelecom (Sprint) wireless modem is used to connect to the Network. “No Internet connection” - Windows XP can display this message in this case for the reason that the system simply does not have the appropriate drivers to “see” this device and recognize its signal. The problem can be solved by simply installing software suitable specifically for this modem. Finally, if this does not help, check the technical condition of the device; try to remember why the error could have occurred, whether there was any damage, and so on.

Reception device

If everything is fine with the provider, and your modem is functioning perfectly, you need to pay attention to the device itself used to receive the signal. Everything is simple here: if you reinstalled the operating system, then, obviously, the message: “No Internet connection” in Windows 7, installed instead of Windows XP, appears precisely because of the lack of proper settings. There's no need to panic. The only thing that is required of you is a little time and, preferably, access to the Internet on another device to search for tips and answers to your questions on websites and forums. And the solution to the problem will be easy setup connection to the Internet, which is carried out as required by the type of connection used. Dial-up access, for example, often doesn't need to be configured at all; Setting up a connection through a VPN service, on the other hand, can seem like a rather daunting process.

If we are talking about accessing the Network on a mobile device, for example, and your phone or tablet says: “No Internet connection,” you just need to know the Wi-Fi network key and its name. You can view them in the router settings. If you are concerned about the mobile Internet, then you need to configure it by entering the access point data. You can find them out, again, from your operator or communications consultant. Also, service providers often offer an automatic configuration package to simplify the user's task.

Router

If you understand that the device works flawlessly, no problems arise on the side of the provider and modem, and the router does not want to connect to the Internet in any way, this is obviously the problem. Firstly, in this case you need to install it, after which WiFi disappears. The Internet connection could also be lost if the device was somehow damaged or its settings were changed. If the problem is in the settings, carry out the procedure for entering the necessary parameters in the software part of the router again. When mechanical damage The device must be sent in for repair.

Again, if Windows 7 displays the message “No Internet connection” (via WiFi) after the operating system has been reinstalled, maintaining new parameters is mandatory. To understand whether this is the only reason, you can also find out by using another computer whether the problem also applies to it.

If there is no connection to the Internet through the router, but no one has touched the operating system, go to the device settings (using the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). To authorize, use the admin login and password and see if the router connects to the Network, if you entered the Internet login information correctly, and so on.

Examination

If you see a message: "No Internet connection" (via WiFi), Windows 7 and its diagnostic tools won't help much. As practice shows, she gives the most vague advice in order to cover the widest range possible problems. And you need to find and eliminate a specific cause, so we recommend checking each link as described earlier. In practical terms, you even without special knowledge you will be able to configure your Internet or at least find what the problem is and determine how to solve it.

Nothing helps

Of course, situations may arise when none of the tips listed above helped, you know what the reason is, and Windows 7 continues to display the “No Internet connection” message. What to do in this situation? Contact the support of your Internet provider! There they will advise you and give you an answer to the question of what is the cause of the problem.

Call the master

A way out of the situation can also be to call a specialist (a specialist from the provider) to your home. However, you must admit that sometimes solving a problem on your own can bring more pleasure than fixing the “No Internet connection” error via a router with the help of a competent employee.

There's always a reason

And finally, here is the main advice that you need to remember in any situation when you are trying to find the reason for the lack of Internet connection on your own. There is always a reason! Remember this phrase when you think that the Internet connection disappeared “by itself,” and you still don’t understand what happened and what you should do now.

First, find out where the failure occurred, what is preventing you from connecting to your provider’s service, at what stage the error was made, and only then look for the answer to the question of how to fix the problem. In this case, of course, it is advisable to have access to the Network from another device (for example, from mobile Internet on the device, unless the same tablet writes: “No Internet connection,” or a neighbor’s computer), in order to look for explanations for your situation on various forums and sites. After all, no matter what error you have, there are at least several hundred more people in the world (if not more) who have already encountered it and managed to discuss it down to the smallest detail.

Hello, friends. And again I will write about wireless Wi-Fi networks and setting up a router. The article about this raised a lot of questions. And as a rule, these are questions like: everything works, but Wi-Fi network without access to the Internet, or the Internet works via cable, but not via Wi-Fi. Well something like that.

Today, I decided to deal with this problem, I understand why such problems can arise.

Here are a few more questions from the article about setting up the TP-Link TL-WR841N router:

Or, Oleg asked the following question:

Hello, here’s the problem: everything is connected to Wi-Fi, you can connect to it both from the computer that distributes it, and from other devices, it sees it and connects, but without Internet access, write in a PM or here I will be very grateful, I’ve been suffering for days but nothing. Help.

So I decided to delve into this topic. Oleg has already configured everything, and everything works for him, but first things first.

I think the problem that we will now solve is clear, and it’s the same for you: after setting up a Wi-Fi router, the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work, or only works via a cable from the router, or does not work at all through the router. We will consider this issue using routers from TP-Link as an example, although I have a specific model TP-Link TL-WR841N, but still, I think that they are not very different in configuration. In principle, if you have some other router, then read it anyway, it might come in handy.

Wi-Fi network without Internet access. What to do?

If a problem has already occurred that the device connects to the Wi-Fi network, but the sites do not open, then first of all we need to find what’s wrong. On the Internet itself, on a router, or on a laptop, tablet, phone, etc.

Checking the Internet connection without a router

Let's go in order. First, we check whether the Internet is working, otherwise you never know. To do this, simply connect the network cable directly to the computer, without a router. If the Internet works fine, then everything is fine, let's move on. If not, then solve this problem with your provider.

If everything is fine with the Internet, then there is a problem either with the router, or with the laptop, or other device that you want to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

We find out whether the problem is in the router or laptop.

To do this, just try to connect not only one laptop to your router, but also a phone, tablet, or another laptop. If all devices find your Wi-Fi network, but when connected it will not have access to the Internet (this connection status can be seen on the laptop), or sites simply won’t open, then the problem is Wi-Fi settings router.

Well, if, for example, the Internet via Wi-Fi does not work on only one laptop, but other devices connect and open websites, then the problem is in the laptop (not necessarily a laptop, it could be ).

I hope you managed to find out what the problem is, in the router or in the laptop. And now we will look at how to solve, or at least try to solve, this or that case.

If the problem is with the laptop

If it turns out that you have a problem with your laptop and the network without the Internet is only on it, then you need to check the settings of the wireless network connection. Perhaps during the process of setting up the router, you changed some settings on the laptop, or you previously set up some other network. Personally, on my laptop with Windows 7, there are parameters by which the laptop automatically receives an IP address and DNS server from the router.

Everything works for me with these settings, my router is configured as written in the article. In order to check whether your wireless connection on your laptop is configured correctly, do this:

Connect to your network, the laptop should connect, but the notification bar icon that shows Wi-Fi will have a yellow triangle, meaning no internet access. Like this:

Right-click on it and select .

Then, in a new window, on the right, click on "Change adapter settings".

A window will open in which you need to select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click the “Properties” button.

Another window will open in which you need to make sure that the items are checked and “Obtain DNS servers automatically”. If not, then mark these values and click “Ok”.

Restart your laptop, and if your Wi-Fi router is configured correctly (and, as we found out above, it is configured correctly), then the Wi-Fi network on the laptop should work and the sites should open.

And one more important point: very often the connection can be blocked by antiviruses and firewalls, so try disabling them.

Update! I wrote a detailed article in which I separately discussed the main problems with connecting a laptop to Wi-Fi -

If the problem is with the Wi-Fi router

Before you start setting up your router, it is advisable to reset the settings to factory settings. To do this, press with something sharp and hold the small button on the back panel of the router for 10 seconds (more details in the article). Then you can configure the router as written in the article on setting up TP-Link TL-WR841N (link is above).

In solving a problem with a network without Internet access, we are only interested in the tab WAN. In this section, we configure the Internet connection that we connect to the router, setting up the provider, so to speak.

In LICs, most often providers use the following connections: Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP. For example, my Kyivstar provider uses Dynamic IP, so I have the following settings on the WAN tab:

And if your provider uses a different connection technology, for example Static IP, PPPoE, or PPTP, then setting up with Dynamic IP, like mine, will not work for you. Because the router simply cannot connect to the Internet, it creates a network, but there is no Internet. And exactly The whole problem is in these settings.

For example, we can consider the problem that Oleg had, which I wrote about at the beginning of the article. He has a Beeline provider, in the settings on the WAN tab, opposite WAN Connection Type: he chose Dynamic IP and therefore his Internet did not work.

After I started to figure out what the problem was, it turned out that Beeline uses L2TP/Russian L2TP technology. After Oleg installed L2TP/Russian L2TP opposite WAN Connection Type, entered his username and password, and made other settings, everything worked. This is what the router settings for Beeline look like:

As you already understand, this problem is solved very simply. You need to call your provider, or look on the Internet what connection method he uses to connect. And based on the information you receive from your provider, you need to configure the router, or rather the WAN tab. Here is another forum address where it is written how to configure TP-Link routers for some Russian providers, such as Beeline\Corbina, NetByNet, QWERTY, Dom.ru, 2KOM, etc.

If the provider binds to the MAC address

And further about binding to MAC address. Some providers do this, and it can interfere with setting up your router. Therefore, you need to connect the router via a network cable to a computer whose MAC address is registered with the provider, go to the MAC Clone tab in the router settings And click on the Clone MAC Address button, click Save.

Update

They shared with me one solution that helped overcome this problem when connecting via Wi-Fi. The person had Windows 8 and everything worked fine. But he decided to install Windows 7 and after that the problems started. Laptop to wireless network connected, but “Without access to the Internet.” All the advice didn’t help, but this is what did:

Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center. Then, on the left select Wireless Network Management.

Right-click on the network that is having trouble connecting to it. Select properties.

Go to the tab Safety, then click on the button Extra options. Check the box next to Enable Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) compliance mode for this network.

Here's an update, perhaps this method will help you!

Afterword

I hope that I was able to clearly and step-by-step describe what could cause a problem when the network works through a router, but without access to the Internet. And how to solve this problem. Perhaps I didn’t write about something, so I ask you to fill me in in the comments. After all, it is impossible to write about all the ways to solve this problem, because there can be a lot of reasons for its occurrence. Good luck friends!
