Next summer, Dynamo Brest will play in the Champions League for the first time in history.

Since 2006, UEFA has divided stadiums into four categories (the first is the lowest). Previously, Brestsky was third, but in recent years it was demoted to second. Let us note that according to the application documents for the major league, the stadium can accommodate 10,143 spectators. 4424 of them are under roof. The capacity of the fan section is 444 seats. The stadium has 76 VIP seats and 30 seats for journalists.

As for European cups, the second category stadiums host matches of the 1st and 2nd qualifying rounds of the Champions League and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds of the Europa League. Dynamo will start from the 1st qualifying round of the Champions League, which means they will host the home game at their stadium. If the Brest team advances to the next stage or goes to the 2nd qualifying round of the LE, they will also be able to play there in their home arena.

However, the first qualifying stages of the Europa League are not new for Brestsky. Here Dynamo played the 2nd and 3rd rounds in the summer of 2017 and 2018 against Altach, Atromitos and Apollo. Previously, in Brest, the 3rd qualifying stage of the LE was held by Minsk teammates, who opposed Trabzonspor, Zurich, Red Bull and Vojvodina.

For later stages, starting from the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League and the playoff round of the Europa League, a stadium of at least the third category is required. In the following stages, UEFA requires a fourth category.

What does Brestsky need to do to get the 3rd category?

The arena was demoted to the second category for two reasons. Firstly, the stadium does not have an online electronic ticketing system. Roughly speaking, these are turnstiles at the entrance, which can be seen at Dynamo Minsk, Borisov Arena and Minsk Arena. One turnstile must be designed for 660 spectators. It turns out that at least 16 of them need to be installed at Brestsky.

Secondly, there is no closed-circuit television (CCTV) at Brestsky. It must completely cover all spectators present at the stadium and the area adjacent to the arena. A specialized video control room is also required. In total, only nine cameras are installed at Brestsky.

“This is a very big problem and a lot of money. The stadium has been informed about this several times, but the arena management still says that they do not have the funds. Therefore, two questions for obtaining the third category cannot be resolved. It turns out that they have the right to hold the first and second rounds of the Champions League qualification at Brestsky, and then that’s it, goodbye. For the next rounds, you need to have a third or fourth category,” says Alexander Chernik, perhaps the main expert on Belarusian stadiums, who has worked for several years in the committee on sports facilities and security at football arenas of the ABFF.

As for the capacity of the stadium, Brestsky was lucky. UEFA has reduced the minimum number of seats for the third category to 4,500. However, problems may arise with the requirements for VIP seats. UEFA requires 250 such seats (of which 50 are for the visiting team), although now there are only 76 of them in the stadium. We also note that the third category arena must have at least five commentary stations and two TV studios.

But what about the most problematic points - the ticketing system and video surveillance? We turned to the director of the Brestsky Sports Complex for an answer. Yuri Noskevich:

– “Dynamo” returned to European competition. We will think about this issue and do everything so that the stadium can host as many matches as possible. Whatever depends on us, we will fix it.

– To obtain the third category, ticket accounting and video surveillance systems are required. How much do they cost and is it realistic to install them at Brestsky?

- Let's not rush things. The question needs to be thought through and everything needs to be calculated. We plan to do this immediately after the end of the championship.

– There are seven months left before the start of the European Cups. Will you have time?

– It all depends on funding, you understand.

– Does it come only from the region?

– We are subordinate to the regional authorities. But we do almost everything at our own expense.

– By law, can a stadium receive help from the club?

- Why not? Can. Dynamo helps us with some things. The stadium is subject to government sponsorship regulations. Plus the scoreboard needs to be updated. In short, there are many issues that need to be worked on.

Now everyone is waiting for the end of the season. You saw how our stands are filling up, so we have to solve a lot of problems right now. As soon as the championship ends, together with the club we immediately begin preparations for the next one. The mayor, governor, and Dynamo management constantly meet at football matches. Even something like mini-planning meetings takes place. Therefore, everyone is in favor of big football in Brest. You see, if we start holding matches in another city, then we definitely shouldn’t expect such an environment as ours. So many people won’t come, which means there won’t be such a holiday.

As for Dynamo, the club is going to consider the issues gradually. Previously, all efforts were spent on finishing the season. After its completion, the club will decide what work needs to be done at Brestsky before the European Cups, and will decide on assistance to the stadium. Note that Dynamo has a contractual relationship with the arena. The stadium provides services, the club pays. Dynamo also help Brestsky in football-related matters. For example, they provide advice on lawn care.

“You see, if we had a purely football stadium, it would be a little easier. Moreover, we have a lot of athletics competitions,” Noskevich answered the question about the reality of “Brestsky” getting the fourth category and hosting the Champions League qualifying playoffs or the Europa League group tournament.

In fact, the athletics tracks are not the main problem. It all comes down to organizational requirements. Just look at these numbers and compare with Brestsky:

  • minimum number of seats for VIP spectators – 500
  • VIP seats for visiting team fans – 100
  • The minimum number of seats in the press box is 60 (of which 30 have tables)
  • minimum number of places for commentators – 25
  • minimum number of TV studios – 2 (one of them overlooking the field)

So far, Brestsky fits in only in terms of the number of spectator seats in the stadium - 8,000.

If you perform well in Europe, where should you play?

Today in Belarus, only two stadiums have the fourth category - Dynamo Minsk and Borisov Arena. Until recently, the third category, in addition to “Brest”, was occupied by the Grodno “Neman” and the Gomel “Central”. However, like the stadium in Brest, they were demoted to the second category due to the lack of an electronic ticket accounting system and a closed-circuit television system.

What about the new stadium near the Kamenets ring?

At the moment, experts are considering Dynamo’s appeal. " An urban planning passport is currently being developed, based on the concept of a multifunctional sports complex and stadium for 30 thousand spectators previously proposed by the management of the Dynamo football club. It was visualized by the architects of the Brest branch of the Vorobyov and Partners company.

When the extensive reconstruction of the Brestsky stadium began in Brest 20 years ago, it was planned primarily as a base point for athletes. An ideal place for training and competitions. But life suggested: it is necessary to build for ordinary townspeople who are associated with sports only at the amateur level. And today the Brestsky sports complex is a universal facility. Here you can stay overnight for guests, have dinner or order a banquet, play sports, relax in a warm company with friends, and cheer for your favorite team.

Let's take a short tour of such a familiar sports complex, which we actually don't know everything about.

Place guests

The times when dozens of relatives from other cities were invited to celebratory anniversaries and all of them were placed side by side on the floor in a large room have sunk into oblivion. Today, guests themselves prefer not to burden friends and relatives and stay in hotels. The Five Rings Hotel was primarily aimed at athletes who come here for training camps. But, of course, anyone can live in it. The undoubted advantages are its location in the city center, distance from noisy central highways. Comfortable spacious rooms will accommodate both those who are used to relaxing alone and married couples. In addition, guests have access to the entire infrastructure of the complex.

Delicious lunch or dinner

A small cozy cafe with the same name as the hotel is a place where you can go for lunch or order banquet services. Set meals are served quickly and are priced lower than the city average. But it's not just a matter of taste. The cafe's kitchen is equipped with a steam convection oven, so used fat is not reused. This makes the food not only tasty, but also healthy, which we could see during the service of competitions - about two years ago, during football matches, a “hospitality zone” began operating on the territory of the sports complex. Here, fans can try hearty sausages and kebab along with drinks.

Play sports and go to the sauna

"I go to gym!" - a very popular phrase lately. New halls and studios open in the city quite often. But true hardware fans don’t change their friends. The “Kachalka” at the Brestsky Sports Complex is equipped with a wide range of exercise equipment, which are maintained in good condition. For those who are not after glamor, who just need to get their body in order, it is very comfortable here. The gym at Brestsky differs from others in its space - the ceiling starts at the level of the third floor, and in the summer it is pleasant to be here thanks to the air conditioning system. Pleasant, competent instructors will definitely help with training at the initial stage. Prices are the most affordable. And for each client there is a bonus system. For example, parents with their subscription can bring children from 10 to 14 years old, thereby introducing them to sports; significant discounts are provided for groups of friends. Season ticket holders have free use of the running tracks on the driving range.

Those who like intimate conversations can book a visit to the sauna. In the warmth and with good company you can relax and unwind at the end of a busy week.

Attend the match

And, of course, a tour of the sports complex would be incomplete without His Majesty Football! The renewed Dynamo Brest makes every game intriguing. The season has just begun, and the stadium has already sold out twice. The sports complex is preparing for this as if it were a big holiday. Because just meeting fans and checking tickets today is not enough. People need to be put in a good mood. And here it is important that close cooperation between the club and the stadium has been established. The former provide a fan zone, the latter - tea and coffee, popcorn, sausages in the hospitality area, and the sale of drinks and ice cream directly in the stands.

Of course, the sports complex did not arise on an empty field - the Polish authorities built a stadium here back in the 1930s. The drainage system of those times is still in use today. But the stadium appeared in its modern form only in 2006, when the second stage of the complex was commissioned to host football and athletics competitions. The stadium has certificates for hosting international competitions.

“A non-lazy leader does everything himself”

Even the most advanced material and technical base means nothing without people. Since the beginning of construction, the sports complex has been headed by Kazimir Ringevich. We give our word to him.

Kazimir Iosifovich, what was the most difficult thing in your work over the years?

The most difficult thing was even before the facility was put into operation, when, together with the design organization and the city leadership, we were looking for ways to build a facility on this piece of land, in the very center of the city, that would meet international requirements. So that football and athletics competitions of the highest level can be held here. To do this, we had to greatly adjust the original project. In some cases, I had to insist on making these changes myself. As a result, we achieved a common goal and received a complex that meets international standards. We've been through a lot over the years. The first accountant who came to work with me was also a valuable employee because she brought her personal computer with her. Now all this seems somewhat unreal, as if it didn’t happen to me. But it’s too early to rest on our laurels. Because we need to constantly maintain the sports complex in good condition so that the licenses we receive are not taken away from us. Time passes, everything wears out, and the requirements become stricter. In order for the complex to fulfill its functions, so that athletes can train and compete comfortably, they need to constantly improve.

Have you ever been challenged to make money?

These are the challenges life poses. Our first purchase, made with the money we earned, was eight tables and eight chairs for work. Only by earning money can we change, be modern, and strengthen our base. Well, no one canceled the task of increasing employee salaries. And this can only be done using earned money. Of course, everything could be rented out. But a non-lazy leader does everything himself. For example, now life dictates that it is necessary to create a computer network. This way we can automate the ticket sales process. There is such a problem, and we want to solve it as quickly as possible. And then - new questions and new solutions. Next up is replacing the surface on the athletics tracks, updating the electronic scoreboard, and updating the seats in the stands. All this requires money. Now is not the time to go to offices and ask for something to be given to you. Of course, the city authorities do not shy away from our problems. And here I would like to express my gratitude to the chairman of the city executive committee, Alexander Rogachuk, who is always ready to support us.

The emergence of new services is limited to existing areas. How do you manage to withstand competition?

Indeed, all our premises are functionally formed. Therefore, new premises are needed for additional services. But we strive for diversity - first of all, we have developed a very flexible system of discounts. A promotion for group classes started in early May. If there is a group gathering, they are provided with a discount. Our task is to make sure that a person, having come once, wants to come back again.

The sports complex was primarily created as a sports base for athletes...

And now he has not changed his purpose. We have created all the conditions so that we can train comfortably. Therefore, the main republican athletics training camps are held in Brest. It's comfortable. The athlete arrives and checks into a hotel. He can also eat and train here. We have created a separate training gym especially for the convenience of athletes.

The football stadium on what is now Gogol Street in Brest was built on the site of a vacant lot in 1937. Then it was Liberty Alley, and Brest-nad-Bug was part of Poland. The stadium with a large covered grandstand, built under the supervision of the military builder Lieutenant Bidas, became the first in the city and was named after Josef Pilsudski.

In 1939, with the advent of Soviet power, the stadium was transferred to the Spartak society, and the name of the sports facility became the same.

During the German occupation (1941-1944), the stadium was used as a parking lot for armored vehicles.

From the moment of liberation by Soviet troops until 1972, it remained Spartak, until it was transferred to the Dynamo sports society.

Even then, the stadium had volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, an earthen cycling track on the slope, and a seasonal hockey rink. When the cinder surface on the running tracks was replaced, a spare cinder football field was built behind the western stand, which was sometimes used for motorball matches.

Major reconstruction of the stadium began in 1996. It was carried out in stages, and matches of the Belarusian football championship were held here regularly. Three years later, in 1999, the football field, sports core, eastern, northern and southern stands with individual plastic seats for 2,311 seats were put into operation.

The sports complex was built not only to host football matches, but also to host high-level athletics competitions. Its sports core:

  • 8 (treadmills with high-quality coating, which has an international certificate
  • 2 jumping pits - for long jump, 1 - for high jump and 1 - for pole vault.
  • sectors for discus throwing and shot put.

On this basis, the State Regional Sports Complex “Brestsky” was created, now the communal unitary sports and recreational enterprise “Regional Sports Complex “Brestsky”.

In December 2006, the western stand was put into operation, equipped with a protective canopy covering up to 70 percent of the seats for spectators.

Today, the sports complex includes four stands designed for 10,169 spectators, an athletics arena, the main and warm-up athletics core, which includes the main and training football field.

The stadium of the sports complex is the main venue for home games football club "Dynamo-Brest" in the highest league of the championship of the Republic of Belarus.

The Brestsky sports complex has become one of the main training bases for the training of track and field athletes of the Republic of Belarus. Regional and republican athletics competitions are held on the flat structures of the stadium.

In 2007, OSK Brestsky received a certificate from the IAAF (International Athletics Federation) for the stadium's compliance with international standards.

The stadium has a gym and sports halls, where groups practice in various health areas every day: sports dancing, choreography, classical aerobics, children's yoga, belly dancing.

There is also a cafe with 60 seats and a hotel with 61 seats.

BREST SPORTS FACILITIES: CONTACTS, WORK SCHEDULE

In 1937, along the current Liberty Alley (Gogol Street) in Polish Brest - above the Bug, on the site of a vacant lot, a football stadium was built, the harbinger of today's Regional Sports Complex "Brest".

At that time, the city of Brest did not have a citywide stadium: all the existing flat sports facilities with football fields were quite primitive and served the needs of the military units under which they were built. Against their background, the brainchild of the military builder Lieutenant Bidas, under whose leadership the work was carried out, with a large covered platform had a completely different scale. It is no coincidence that the arena was named after Josef Pilsudski, which in Poland at that time was an indicator of exemplaryness and elitism.

In September 1939, Brest became a Soviet city. The stadium was handed over to the Spartak sports society and given the appropriate name. Under the Spartak flag, the stadium was operated (with the exception of 3 years of Nazi occupation, during which time the facility was used as a parking lot for armored vehicles) until the end of 1972, when the main city arena along with the football team were transferred to the Dynamo society. At that time, the stadium had volleyball and basketball courts, a seasonal hockey rink, a tennis court, and a sloping (sloping) earthen cycling track. Later, when replacing the cinder surface on the running tracks with rubber-bitumen, a spare cinder football field was built behind the western stand, which was sometimes used for motorball matches.

In April 1996, it was decided to begin a major reconstruction of the stadium and remove the old stands, which were in disrepair. The stands were demolished gradually so that Brest fans would not be deprived of the football spectacle. In 1999, the following were put into operation: - a football field, - a sports core, - Eastern, Northern and Southern stands with individual plastic seats for 2311 seats.

The sports core includes:

  • 8 (eight) treadmills with high-quality coating that has an international certificate.
  • jumping pits - 2 (two) for long jump, 1 (one) for high jump and 1 (one) for pole vault.
  • sectors for discus throwing and shot put.

By decision of the Brest Regional Executive Committee No. 22 of January 25, 1999. The newly built facilities were accepted into regional communal ownership and on this basis the State Regional Sports Complex “Brestsky” was created, which was subsequently renamed the Municipal Unitary Sports and Recreation Enterprise “Regional Sports Complex “Brestsky”.

In December 2006, the Western Stand was put into operation, equipped with a protective canopy that allows covering up to 70% of the individual seats for spectators. At the moment, the sports complex includes four stands that can accommodate 10,169 spectators, an athletics arena, the main and warm-up athletics core, which includes the main and training football field. CCTV cameras located around the perimeter make it possible to provide control over both the stadium territory and the spectator seats in the stands.

The main major sports are athletics and football. The Brestsky sports complex has become one of the main training bases for the training of track and field athletes of the Republic of Belarus. Regional and republican athletics competitions are held on the flat structures of the stadium. This is the only complex in the country that fully complies with modern standards, which provide for the proximity of a full-fledged warm-up arena. In 2007, the UE OSK "Brestsky" received the only IAAF (International Athletics Federation) certificate in the Republic of Belarus for the stadium's compliance with international standards, which allows it to declare high quality services and claim, on a par with foreign arenas, to host world-class athletics competitions and football matches .

At the sports base of the sports complex, sports groups conduct daily training sessions: Sports School of the United States "Spartak", UOR, OSHSVM, "Dynamo", Brest OSDSYUSHOR, SDYUSHOR (trampoline), BrGU. The sports complex is the main playing stadium of the football club "Dynamo" Brest in the championship of the highest league of the national football championship of the Republic of Belarus. The stadium has all the necessary facilities for holding football matches and athletics competitions:

  • two large comfortable locker rooms for football players with appropriate sanitary equipment and medical examination rooms,
  • two athletics locker rooms,
  • judges room,
  • room for filling out protocols,
  • room for the match delegate,
  • doping control room.

The republican body of state management of the enterprise is the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus. Form of ownership - regional communal. The government body is the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Brest Regional Executive Committee.

In order to improve the quality of services for athletes, the stadium has a gym and sports halls. In the gyms, groups practice in various health areas every day: sports dancing, choreography, classical aerobics, children's yoga, belly dancing.

There is also a cafe with 60 seats and a hotel with 61 seats. Due to the fact that the Brestsky sports complex is located in the city center, it is surrounded by extensive infrastructure, nearby there is an emergency hospital, three hotels, numerous parking lots, a pharmacy, shops, a railway station, the central square of the city, as well as a cultural park and rest. In terms of improving the Brestsky sports complex, it is planned to install liquid heating for the lawn of the main football field and expand the automated irrigation system to the training field.
