Any housewife dreams of a comfortable home in which every corner is functional. Not only standard premises are being equipped. In some cases, a laundry room is built in the house. This is a room that helps to unload the rest of the space, since it is in it that all the necessary household appliances will be placed.

One of the interior options for a home laundry room

As a rule, in any private house there is enough space that can be used to arrange a laundry room.

Only when choosing equipment for it you need to focus on the parameters of this separate room.
In the arrangement they use:

  • washing machines with different washing modes;
  • special equipment for rinsing clothes;
  • centrifuges for spinning clothes and other things;
  • equipment for ironing and steaming.

All this equipment can be built-in or free-standing. Its power is also different. Selection criteria depend on consumer needs.

In some cases, special devices are also equipped for drying washed laundry. But this is only when:

For this reason, the design of such a room is developed in advance.

Is a separate laundry needed?

Each person answers this question differently. For some, one washing machine is enough. But if washing is carried out only a few times a week, then it usually takes a whole day. In this case, the equipment is overloaded and quickly breaks down.

Some people, on the contrary, feel the need for such a room. This is due to the fact that washing occurs much faster. Moreover, it is performed using more than one washing machine. And this is a kind of saving of time and energy.

For some people, having a separate laundry room in a private home is a definite part of their lifestyle.

As a rule, all washing equipment is located in standard rooms:

It takes up space and this arrangement of equipment does not always look attractive. It is constantly in sight. It is for this reason that you should still think about arranging a laundry room in order to preserve the design of the house in its original form.

Laundry room

Many people believe that there should be a separate room for this in a private house. In most cases this is true. But despite this, it is possible to install a laundry room in any other place.
As a rule, such premises are planned at the stage of construction of a country house, because it needs to be fully equipped. This room should have:

But this is only if a fairly large amount of equipment will be used for washing. If you only use two or three washing machines, you can arrange a separate room. For example, instead of a closet or in an old pantry. The design may vary. The room will not be visible to the eye.

Optimal sizes of a laundry room in the house

If the house design has a room already allocated for these purposes, then you will have to take care of its functionality in the future. If the building project is just being drawn up, then it is worth considering that the laundry room can have the following area:

  • 4 sq. m.;
  • 6 sq. m.;
  • 2 sq. m.

Other sizes may be available. The last option is suitable for arranging this room in an already finished house.
A larger laundry room may not be equipped. These parameters will be sufficient for normal use of the room.

Some nuances of planning a small laundry room

In most cases, it is installed in a pantry or other utility room. Only up to two washing machines can be installed there. They must be set correctly, since the vibrations that appear during the operation of each of them can negatively affect their service life. Because of this, you need to place them at a short distance from each other. 5 cm will be enough.

Next, you need to connect two separate inlets of water supply pipes and two drains. In this case, the main sewer pipe must be of large diameter in order to withstand the flows from two machines at once. Moreover, special filtering equipment must be installed on all water supply pipes. Pumps are usually installed for common water use throughout the house. They have a high power rating.

Do not forget that if the room is small and has no other source of natural ventilation other than the door, then over time the moisture in the machine, which is formed as a result of washing, will cause mold to appear on some of its parts.

Arrangement of a large laundry room

This separate room can have different designs. It is planned initially during the construction of the house. Although if there is free space in it, then you can equip it later.
The room can have the following forms:

  • square;
  • rectangular.

A square-shaped room is considered more functional. It can accommodate all the necessary equipment rationally and at the same time preserve free space.
You should immediately determine:

Important. If the floor in the laundry room is uneven and slippery, then it is quite possible that the equipment will not stay in place during operation and will begin to jump and move. And all this negatively affects the duration of its use.

Pipes for supplying and draining water are connected to the equipment. Moreover, this must be done for each equipment separately.

If the main source of water in the house is a well, then it is necessary to install additional pumping and filtering equipment for the normal functioning of the laundry. Mount it on the main water supply pipe to the room.

After this, the wiring is already done. It is more rational to use plastic pipes with a diameter of 5-6 mm for water supply, and 10-15 cm for drainage.

Ventilation passages must be made. They will help get rid of moldy and humid air, which quite often causes mold to appear on the walls and ceiling.

You need to have several ventilation holes. To allow air masses to enter, the ends of the pipes are placed at the bottom of the wall. The tubes are laid inside the wall and secured with concrete mortar. For the exit - at the top and are mounted in the same way.

In some cases, additional equipment is installed:

  • fans;
  • hoods and much more.
  • on gas;
  • using convectors;
  • on the water.

It is very popular today.

Installation diagram for heated floors in a laundry room

It can function using:

  • water;
  • electricity.

Special infrared heaters or pipes for supplying hot water are laid on the floor surface. The outer lining of such a system can only be non-flammable and well-heated material:

  • ceramic tile;
  • porcelain stoneware;
  • a natural stone.

It is for this reason that it is worth thinking through the design of the room in advance so that everything in it is in harmony.
You also need to install drains on the floor surface. But this is only if the laundry also functions as a dryer. This will prevent water from accumulating on the floor surface, which will cause the finish to deteriorate over time.

If a “warm floor” system is used in the room, it is not recommended to install water drainage pipes on the floor surface.

Most of us find washing clothes no fun, but a beautifully designed laundry room can help elevate the routine and make being in the washing and drying room more enjoyable.

We bring to the attention of visitors to the Interior of Rooms portal a selection of interesting photos of real laundry rooms, in which we managed to organize an ergonomic, rational and visually attractive arrangement of household appliances and furniture for utility rooms.

Skillful use of useful space, interesting layouts of storage systems and much more in the most popular laundry designs.

1. Linear layout of built-in furniture and appliances. By installing a washing machine on a dryer, you save useful space.

Placing the entire work area along one wall will be an ideal option for households with small laundries; this method of arranging furniture and equipment will fit both into city apartments and into country houses.

2. Kitchen unit in the laundry room. These two-tier kitchen cabinets are a great way to organize countertops and storage within a laundry room.

The choice of color for the cabinets was a rather bold decision; the shade of purple added variety to the warm palette of the room.

The sand-gray color of the countertops became the final chord in the interior of this original space.

3. Bright color scheme of the interior. Small spaces like laundry rooms are a great place to show off some color and creativity.

By decorating the space of open shelves and shelving in rich colorful colors, you can change the character of the interior, giving it a positive and festive mood.

4. Combination of purple with marble. This design project has become a hit among laundry room options.

The luxurious combination of a deep shade of purple on the walls and marble surfaces of the flooring and countertops makes us forget that we are in a utility room.

Routine tasks such as sorting, washing and drying clothes become a celebration in such an elegant space.

5. Smart storage systems. The rational use of a small space to accommodate various types of storage systems has allowed this laundry room to become incredibly popular among readers.

Homeowners adopted the idea of a compact layout, a combination of open shelves and wire drawers, and a combination of painted wood with the natural color of natural materials.

6.Original inscriptions. Frosted glass doors with inscriptions help streamline the washing process and speed up the search for certain attributes for the convenience of the work process.

Also worth noting are the attractive stainless steel countertops. It is very convenient to fold dry clothes on such a surface.

7. Stained glass in the utility room. A very small laundry room, which only accommodated appliances and a sink with modest storage systems, was greatly decorated with a stained glass window.

It’s not often you see home decor like this, and even in a utilitarian space.

8. Colorful walls and floors in the laundry room. A narrow laundry and drying area becomes brighter and more inviting with printed wall trim and checkerboard marble flooring.

In addition to the attractive design of the room, readers of the Room Interiors website also liked the skillful approach to organizing storage systems and work surfaces.

9. Warm brick floors. The original flooring in the form of herringbone bricks became the highlight of this universal laundry room, which also included space for hallway equipment.

Of course, many visitors also noted the visual appeal of the glossy ceiling in a light azure shade.

10. Drawers for drying. This original solution will help dry things that can stretch if you place them vertically.

A very convenient way to save space in small laundries using large folding drying racks.

The services of public laundries are used mainly by large organizations or enterprises that need a large amount of clean linen, for example, hotels, hotels or hospitals. Some people also use public laundries, however, in modern, dynamic times, when you need to manage to do a thousand things at once, there is no need to waste your precious free time going to public laundries, since an excellent home laundry can be equipped at home.

Team Stylingroom in today's article I have prepared for you a selection of photographs of stylish, ergonomic and multifunctional home laundry rooms that will help you save money and make the most efficient use of the free space in the rooms of your house or apartment.

A successful combination of home laundry and study

Typically, a small room in a house or apartment is allocated for arranging a laundry room: a small room can be allocated for a laundry room, or a washing machine can be placed in the bathroom, kitchen, or dressing room. However, not many people know that a multifunctional and compact laundry room can be placed in the most seemingly unusual rooms and areas of the house, such as a home office, children's playroom, and living room. Owners of a house or apartment only need to remember that no matter where the home laundry room is located, it needs to be given no less attention in terms of interior design and style than other rooms of the house or apartment.

Combining a laundry room and a home office is a great idea for those owners of a house or apartment who want to do several things at once: both household chores (namely laundry) and work itself. Also, an office in the laundry room is a great idea for those who want to have their own mini-office, but do not have enough free space in their house or apartment. All you need in this case is a small desk and chair, as well as a bookcase if necessary, which can easily be compactly placed in a small laundry room.

Properly selected lighting plays a big role in organizing a laundry room, as well as other areas of a house or apartment. The laundry room should have a sufficient amount of natural light, which can be obtained with the help of spacious windows to the floor, glass walls or doors, and skylights. The laundry room also needs to be equipped with the necessary amount of artificial lighting for the evening or winter season.

In the photo below we see another stylish laundry room, combined with both a home office and a kitchen area. The interior of the room was developed by designers from UB Kitchens – San Antonio. Many people mistakenly believe that a home laundry room is an exclusively functional space in the home, which should not be distinguished by beauty, style, or taste. However, when organizing a laundry room, it is necessary to remember that design harmony in a house or apartment is achieved by decorating absolutely all rooms, even purely functional ones, such as a laundry room, pantry, attic, garage.

Unusual design solutions

Home laundry can be organized in absolutely any room of the house or apartment, observing the following basic rules:

  • The laundry room must be supplied with cold and hot water, as well as sewerage.
  • A drain hole in the floor is a must.
  • The home laundry room should have good ventilation; you can additionally install an exhaust fan.

It is also important to remember that a home laundry room consists of several important elements:

  • Washing machine.
  • Clothes dryer.
  • Baskets, containers for storing dirty linen.
  • Small shelves, tabletops.
  • Ironing board.

The shelves and countertops of the laundry room can be used to store household chemicals, as well as place freshly washed laundry.

In the interior of a home laundry room, the emphasis should be on color. Laundry rooms are usually not very large, so the right design decision would be to decorate the rooms in light colors and shades that visually expand the free space of the laundry rooms. Light colors and shades will also make your home laundry room feel fresh and clean.

Nowadays, there is no longer any need to spend treasured hours going to public laundries, because you can equip an excellent laundry room, or, as it is often called, a “laundry room,” in your home

Size matters

The size of the laundry room must be chosen based on the area of the house itself and the availability of free rooms in it. You should know that the room must be of such a size that there is space in front of the washing machine for convenient loading and unloading of laundry. It is important that air access is provided to laundry stored in containers and baskets, to containers for sorting laundry, etc. Many homeowners are not very concerned about this issue when designing, and as a result, very little space is allocated for the laundry room (since there is no other place provided): this can be either a small room or a nook under the stairs, or a corner in the dressing room or pantry, or part of the kitchen area.

Recently, owners of private houses have begun to prudently allocate a fairly spacious room for household needs, often it is combined with a dressing room and ironing areas and occupies part of the ground floor, and sometimes even a small wing of the building is allocated to it

Technical requirements for the premises

Unfortunately, there are no specific technical requirements specifically for laundries in private houses, but self-respecting architects, when developing the engineering part of the project, always turn to design engineers who, when making calculations, take into account the requirements of SNiP 41-01-2003 “Heating, ventilation and air conditioning” " So, It is prohibited to install a laundry room, and especially a drying room, in an unheated basement. It is better if the laundry room is located near the water supply and sewer risers and has a window. It also needs to be equipped with heating and forced ventilation systems, since this is an area of high humidity. As a rule, depending on the size of the room and the installed equipment, engineers make thermal engineering calculations, which also give recommendations on the choice of ventilation systems. For a laundry room, a supply and exhaust system is often designed with mechanical ventilation (or mixed, if there is a natural exhaust channel). The air exchange rate for the inlet should be at least 10, for the exhaust - at least 13. If the laundry room has a room for drying and ironing, then the air exchange rate for the influx should be at least 4, for the exhaust - at least 6.

Please note that if a boiler with natural removal of combustion products is installed in the laundry room, then a forced ventilation device is unacceptable. In this case, a supply and exhaust system is required. You should also provide a sufficient distance between the boiler and the water intake point (at least 60 cm). Requirements for electrical equipment in the laundry room are regulated by the current PUE and SNiPs for rooms with high humidity: lighting fixtures, distribution boards, sockets, etc. must be moisture- and splash-proof, etc.

Laundry floors should be waterproofed and tiled. Ideally, a slope and a drain are required

Laundry equipment

A home laundry system consists of the following components:

  1. A washing machine (or even several machines if the family is large) with different washing modes.
  2. Dryer.
  3. Sink.
  4. Equipment for ironing and steaming (ironing board, iron, steam generator, etc.).
  5. Baskets/containers for dirty laundry, as well as small shelves and countertops.

The latter, by the way, can make your life much easier: they are convenient for storing household chemicals, folding freshly washed laundry, etc.

All equipment must be properly arranged. So, if there are two washing machines installed in a room, they should be located at a short distance from each other (about 5 cm). This is due to the fact that the vibration that appears during the operation of each of them can negatively affect the service life of the devices.

When determining the diameter of the sewer riser pipe, it should be remembered that dirty water can be discharged from two machines at the same time, therefore, the size of the pipe must be selected taking into account volley discharges.

Coarse filters must be installed on the supply pipeline (the ideal option would be to install a set of cleaning systems with a water hardness regulator). Moreover, each device must have its own water supply pipe, which, if necessary, can be shut off without damaging the other machine.

Wall cabinets and shelves will help free up space on the floor for a comfortable armchair or sofa. Under the sink you can place baskets for clean and dirty laundry. A rack for ironed clothes would also be useful in the laundry room. To keep the ironing board out of the way, you can mount it on the wall and fold it away when not in use. The best option for a home laundry room would be a mini-wardrobe with a built-in ironing board.

Room design

Of course, many people believe that a home laundry room is a purely functional space that should not be particularly beautiful, much less correspond to any style. But this opinion is wrong. After all, harmony in home design is achieved precisely by decorating all rooms, even if for purely utilitarian purposes. When it comes to decorating a laundry room, the emphasis here can be on color. As a rule, not too large an area is allocated for it. Therefore, it is best to keep the interior in light colors, which will visually expand the space and also bring a feeling of freshness and cleanliness to it. Bright posters or photographs on the walls can serve as accents. Choose colorful laundry baskets and boxes for small items, pour cleaning products into beautiful bottles - in other words, create a comfortable atmosphere for yourself, and three hours of washing and ironing will fly by!

To decorate the walls of a laundry room, as a rule, mosaics, ceramic tiles, porcelain tiles, as well as paint and plaster for wet rooms are used.

Example of equipment for a laundry area in a private house

Layout of the laundry area with equipment location

Some cottage owners prefer to set up their own mini-laundry or even dry cleaning in the basement of the house and refuse the services of the relevant companies. There are a number of companies that help you plan and equip your home laundry correctly. For example, in this project, part of the ground floor is allocated for it. There are spacious washing, drying and ironing areas, as well as separate storage areas for linen and detergents.

The room has a very complex shape: many corners and a low sloping ceiling. To visually get away from this, we chose white, which also enlarges our room.

“The color scheme was dictated by a mint wall made of glass blocks - it is also shared with the children’s room. And the main color in the nursery is mint, it was chosen by the customers’ children,” says Ksyanka.

Furniture

To save space, a niche for a washing machine and a hanging installation were provided in the bathroom. In addition, a comfortable shower cabin and an elegant sink were installed. All plumbing is made in retro style and sets the tone for the room.

The laundry room has spacious white cabinets for household chemicals, towels and household utensils. There is also an ironing board, above which there is a system for drying clothes.

Decor and textiles

Mint textiles – a shower mat and towels – highlight the color scheme. As for the decor, it is minimal: accent edging of the cabinet above the installation and shelves above the washing machine. Wicker laundry baskets complete the decor.
