Walnuts are not cheap on the market. And therefore, many envy those lucky ones who have a walnut growing in the garden or near the house in the front garden, which also gives a decent harvest.

But the owners of the walnut during the harvest have a hard time. After all, it is necessary not only to harvest the entire crop and peel it from the peel that covers the fruit itself, but after all the work, clean your hands. Especially after harvesting green nuts, for example, to make amazing jam.

But it will be later. In the meantime, you need to try all known ways to wash your hands. The fact is that the composition of the green peel of the walnut includes the natural dye juglone, which many identify with iodine - they are so similar in color and, it seems, even in smell.

But the juice of the peel is so eaten into the skin that it is almost impossible to wash it off! And if iodine, gradually absorbed into the skin, does not give itself away the next day, then the juice of the green peel of walnuts can be kept on the hands for a week. Not less! As the Rabbit from the cartoon about Winnie the Pooh would say.

And to wipe off this very juice, you need to use all the familiar means that come to mind.

But we must warn that this process is long, and the result is not always positive. But it's worth a try. And suddenly it will work?!

Lemon, lemon juice and citric acid

Lemon juice is a good natural bleach.

Cut a lemon in half and start rubbing it all over the spots on your fingers and palms. The process is not instant, so please be patient.

Brown spots on the hands may gradually lighten. But it will be very surprising if someone cleans them completely.

Instead of rubbing with juice, you can make lemon baths for hands.

Pour warm water into a bowl, squeeze the juice of one or two lemons into it (you can replace it with diluted citric acid) and immerse your hands in water. Keep them in the water - the longer the better. The skin on the hands will steam out.

Then take an ordinary pumice stone and start methodically, but gently peeling off the top layer of the skin. The paint will come off with it.

The method is not bad, but it takes a lot of time, which the hostesses sorely lack. Therefore, we can recommend another option how to clean your hands from the juice of the peel of green walnuts.

grand wash

Everyone is so accustomed to washing clothes in washing machines that they no longer remember those times when a woman washed all the clothes of her large family by hand.

At the end of the wash, her hands were red from the hot water, steamed but spotlessly clean. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to this method.

Do a general cleaning or "start" a grandiose laundry. True, you have to forget about rubber gloves and work without them.

Your hands will be steamed in the water, the skin will soften. When washing things, you will methodically rub off brown spots on your palms.

This will help you and washing powder (well, if it is with bleach), as well as other detergents that you will use while washing the floor or cleaning the sink, bath.

Of course, you should not go to extremes and clean your hands, for example, with Blitz toilet cleaner. Hydrochloric acid, which is included there, along with the paint, will “eat” all the skin. But bleach is less aggressive.

Some experimenters use a bleach solution to remove stains from the juice of the peel of green walnuts.

They put diluted bleach on a cotton swab and rub the brown spots on their hands with it. They say it helps. But you need to remember that bleach is an aggressive substance. And you can not only spoil the skin with it, but also get severe irritation in the form of sores. Therefore, bleach advice may be good, but it's up to you to use it or not.

Juice of unripe (green) grapes

Most likely, the juice of unripe grapes has the same bleaching properties as lemon juice.

Those who used such a cleaner were quite satisfied. But again, you should not expect instant results. After all, this is a long process, although not as unpleasant as the one with bleach.

If you don’t have enough grapes, then take a grape, crush it and start scrubbing the spots, choosing one area. Then take the second berry and move on to the next spot.

But if you are the owner of a vineyard, then you are very lucky. Crush enough grapes in a bowl so that you can immerse your hands in the gruel from it. Hold them there for twenty minutes. Then wash with laundry soap. Also rub with a pumice stone.

Some advise putting the gruel on your hands, putting on gloves and not taking them off for a while. Then wash your hands with soap and rub with a pumice stone.

Salt or sea water

Cleansing the stains from the juice of the peel of green walnuts can be combined with a pleasant spa treatment.

Pour warm water into the bath and add sea salt. Keep your hands in the water until the skin is steamed. Then, using a pumice stone, start rubbing the soiled palms and fingers. Some of the paint will come off.

Bathing in the sea (in salt water), and then rubbing your palms with fine sand also gives a positive result.

Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia

Hydrogen peroxide is also on the list of those substances that can be used to remove brown spots from green walnuts. But this solution practically does not work. Is it only for fresh spots ...

Stubborn stain removers

There are many different products available in stores to remove stubborn stains. But all of them (or almost all) are designed to fight stains not on human skin, but on an “inanimate” surface: fabric, furniture, glass, metal. And in their composition there can be substances not only bad for the skin, but also dangerous - the same hydrochloric acid, for example.

Therefore, these tools must be used with caution. Most importantly, do no harm!

Conclusion

Whichever of these products you choose to remove green walnut skin stains, remember:

  • Before removing stains from your hands, you should think not only about the effectiveness of this tool, but also about the possible consequences.
  • All of these methods are not very effective on their own. They need to be combined with pumice stone cleaning. Since the juice of the peel is not washed off by itself, but comes off only with the top layer of the skin, which is cleaned off with a pumice stone (scrub, salt, sand).
  • Therefore, in one day you are unlikely to be able to get rid of stains. And if you can, then you will find yourself in the rare ranks of the lucky ones.
  • But so that there are no stains from the peel of green walnuts, or there are very few of them, you need to peel or process green walnuts only with rubber gloves. And not thin, but better quality. Although, as practice shows, they do not protect the peel of green walnuts from the juice as we would like.

In childhood, many had palms painted with walnut as a symbol of summer. Peeling green walnuts with gloves was not at all interesting, and not carrying gloves with you, right? How to wash your hands from a nut, did not think. Children have grown into adults, they have become more circumspect, but green nuts are still peeled without gloves. Only now the question of how to wash your hands after nuts has become relevant. Many options are given, but most of them are based on a misconception about the nature of the coloring matter of the walnut, and therefore represent a kind of myth about how to clean your hands from nuts.

The "cunning" of walnut juice is that the coloring substance does not appear immediately. When peeling nuts, the hands appear slightly yellowed, and it can be deceived that this color is easily removed by simple hand washing. Literally after a couple of hours, the color appears and turns brown. The shell of unripe walnuts contains juglone dye, which is resistant enough to be used by modern cosmetic brands to create lines of hair dyes. It is thanks to the high concentration of juglone that the juice from the nuts stains the hands with such a persistent brown color.

How to withdraw walnut juice: myths and reality

Option 1. Lemon vs. Walnut

The most typical advice, and, as they say, the least effective. Based on the whitening effect of citric acid.

Pros: availability of funds.

Minuses: it will take a long time to rub. Possible burns from citric acid on very sensitive skin.

To clean walnut stains, a slice of lemon is enough. You need to rub it on the skin until it brightens. Lemon is said to help with minor jobs, such as removing a walnut stain or whitening lightly colored skin.

Option 2. Unripe green grapes

Minuses: the option is available only to those who grow their own grapes.

The principle of operation is the same as that of lemon and vinegar.

Option 3. How to wash a walnut with a potato?

Some advise to peel a lot of potatoes, or grate potatoes and dip your hands into the resulting mass of mashed potatoes and starch. The advice is based on the belief that walnuts stain with iodine, and iodine is known to be washed out with starch.

Pros: availability of funds.

Minuses: The ability of the walnut to color does not depend on the content of iodine in it, but on the amount of the coloring substance juglone. Juglon, even "disguised" as iodine, is poorly excreted by potatoes, so the effectiveness of such a remedy can be questioned.

Option 4. Industrial facilities

These include bleach, and industrial soap, which is used to clean the hands of a master in car dealerships, and bleaching powders.

Pros: high activity of substances.

Minuses: skin damage.

The mechanism of action is more similar to the effect on the skin of abrasive substances that erase the top, colored layer of the skin, contributing to a faster renewal of skin cells. But at the same time, chemical components strongly irritate the skin. Such funds do not bring benefits.

Option 5. How to wash a nut with peeling and steaming?

In this case, it is advised to steam the skin in a bath, apply peelings to remove the top layer of skin cells. After steaming, you can use a whitening cream or a slice of lemon. After the procedure, it is better to lubricate the hands moisturizer.

Pros: accessibility, practicality, efficiency.

Minuses: requires time investment.

Since the juglone dye is very persistent, it is quite problematic to discolor the skin. The only option is to wait for a complete change of colored skin, it is to accelerate this process that baths, peels and steaming are aimed. This method helps to cope with a walnut in a couple of days, while minimally injuring the skin.

You can buy gloves at every hardware store - with their help you will protect your hands not only from stains, but also from irritation.

One of the useful products bestowed by nature are nuts, which have useful substances and excellent taste. These fruits are to the taste of both adults and children, who receive special pleasure from picking them during the ripening period. Popular types of nuts found on store shelves and markets include: peanuts, cashews, coconut, hazelnuts, pine nuts, pistachios, pecans and Brazil nuts. However, the most favorite species that grows in most CIS countries is the walnut, which is well known to us since childhood. It is his green shell, covering the shell of young fruits, that can pretty dirty hands and clothes, thereby causing a lot of inconvenience. Dealing with such contamination is very difficult, but using a few effective methods, you can wash your hands and clothes from corrosive juice without problems.

Why do walnuts get your hands dirty

Of all the types of nuts, it is walnuts that can turn your hands brown when you try to remove the green peel from a barely ripe fruit. Fresh young walnuts are distinguished by a sweeter taste of the kernel, previously freed from the protective brown film.

The green peel of walnuts can leave stubborn juice stains on your hands.

The thick green skin of the walnut has a large amount of juice containing the natural dye Juglone. It is he who causes the appearance of red and hard-to-wash spots, which appear after some time on the skin of the hands and clothes. Such contaminants can last for about a week, in the absence of attempts to remove them.

Such walnut stains are very difficult to wash off in the usual way.

Wanting to protect yourself from the effects of nut peel juice, it is enough to use rubber gloves that can provide the necessary protection, unlike fabric ones. The action of the juice that has got on the skin becomes noticeable only after some time, which does not allow timely measures to be taken to remove it as soon as possible. For this reason, it is advisable to sanitize the hands immediately after cleaning the green nuts, whether they look clean or not.

Rubber gloves keep your hands clean

Despite the rich variety of detergents, not everyone can cope with walnut stains. The fact is that being a natural dye that is part of most popular hair dyes, the juglone substance has an enviable resistance to most brands of soap solutions. In addition, many detergents are very aggressive towards the skin of the hands and can provide the desired effect only if combined with mechanical action. Sand, pumice and scrub can act as auxiliary substances.

A pumice stone will help to remove stubborn dirt from your hands.

But even their use will not provide the desired result after a single application. It is for this reason that it is advisable to use detergents in the most extreme cases. And timely prophylaxis against the occurrence of stains from nut juice is a more acceptable option, eliminating the need for a subsequent fight against complex contaminants.

If you accidentally get dirty with walnut juice, you should not worry about your health. It does not cause any harm to the human body and, after a while, such pollution will disappear on its own.

Hello, my name is Anna. I am 37 years old. Higher management education. Divorced, raising a daughter. (3 votes, average: 2 out of 5)

If you are harvesting a nut crop, then after cleaning, blackening of the hands is inevitable. Use ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, citric or tartaric acid to quickly clean your hands. Prepare from bath products and thoroughly rub the brushes with a brush. After each procedure, soften the skin with a nourishing cream.

Walnut stains are difficult to remove, so people can walk around with disfigured hands and fingers for up to 2 weeks. In order to bring the brushes back to normal as soon as possible, you should know why the dermis turns black and how to wash your hands from nuts (walnuts).

Why do walnuts get your hands dirty

It was noticed that the hands turn black only after contact of the skin with the unripe fruit and especially with its green peel. This is due to the fact that the skin is enriched with a strong pigmenting substance - juglone, which is a powerful source of iodine. It is he who is useful for the body, so often the peel of a young green nut is used to prepare healing tinctures.

In a mature fruit, the concentration of these substances is much lower, and if the shell is dry, then the nut practically does not stain the hands. But when harvesting, blackening of the limbs (as in the photo) cannot be avoided, so you need to have the ingredients necessary for cleaning on hand.

Note ! Yugnon does not pigment the dermis immediately, but gradually. This is a characteristic feature of the substance. If after assembly you do not notice pronounced spots, treat your hands anyway, because after a day they may turn black.

Effective ways to quickly wash hands stained with green nut peels

To eliminate black walnut stains, both improvised household / cosmetic / food products are used: citric acid, sea salt, grapes, and medical preparations: ammonia and hydrogen peroxide.

Each ingredient has its own characteristics of application and affects the skin in different ways. If there are injuries on the hands (scratches, cuts, cracks), use gentle methods, even if they require more effort and are less effective.

How to get rid of nut stains with lemon juice

Citric acid or lemon juice allows you to wipe off the blackness that appeared after peeling walnuts safely.

Due to the acidic properties of lemon, the dermis brightens and comes into proper shape, but you need to treat your hands immediately after contact with nuts and carry out several procedures according to the following scheme:

  1. Squeeze the juice from the lemon.
  2. Put your hands in it.
  3. Hold for 10 minutes.
  4. Thoroughly wash the brushes with detergent, rubbing with a stiff brush.

If there is no lemon on hand, use citric acid. Dilute it 1:4 with water and carry out manipulations according to the principle described above.

Note ! If there are microcracks and injuries on the hands, do not wash your hands with lemon / acid. They act aggressively on the affected skin.

Sour grape juice from unripe fruits

You can wash dirty hands from nuts (walnuts) using late grapes. The acid present in the fruit works like citric acid and also effectively removes stains from walnut greens.

  1. Squeeze juice from unripe grapes.
  2. Keep your hands in it for 10 minutes.
  3. Wash the brushes thoroughly with soap and clean the stains with a hard sponge.

Iodine stains will not resist acid, but as in the previous case, refuse to clean your hands with grapes if your hands are damaged.

How to remove stains from nuts with sea salt

Sea salt helps to effectively remove nuts (green) from blackened hands, even if the hands have cracks and other damage.

Blackness is eliminated by scrubbing and steaming, for which you need:

  1. Prepare hot water.
  2. Put in a handful of sea salt.
  3. Dip your hands in the solution and knead the salt melting in the water with your fingers.

When the water has cooled, brush your hands and wash thoroughly with soap and water. If the spots do not disappear at once, repeat the procedure in a day.

Note ! If there are injuries on the hands, do not make the water very hot or let it cool down a little so as not to endure the pain. Do not use a brush on the affected areas, so as not to injure the dermis even more.

Cleanse your skin with hydrogen peroxide

If after harvesting you need to quickly put your hands in order, then use hydrogen peroxide. It is used to remove stains on fabric and leather.

It can be applied in 2 ways:

  1. Moisten your hands liberally with hydrogen, put on rubber gloves and wash off the substance after 15 minutes.
  2. Dilute hydrogen in proportions 1:1 with water, dip your hands in it and hold for 15-20 minutes.

After carrying out the procedures (in both cases), it is imperative to wash your hands with detergent and rub especially contaminated areas. Usually 1 treatment is enough to get rid of the hazel blackness.

Cleaning with ammonia

Ammonia cleans hands well after collecting and peeling walnuts from the husk. The drug is especially useful in combination with hydrogen, as it enhances the effectiveness of the peroxide.

2 methods for cleaning hands from nut peels with ammonia:

  1. Pour ammonia (1:1 with water) into a plate and hold your hands in the solution for 15 minutes.
  2. Wet a cotton pad with undiluted ammonia and vigorously rub the blackening.

After that, wash off the preparation with liquid or bar soap (predominantly household). Be sure to scrub with a brush.

Note ! No matter which cleaning recipe you choose, lubricate the brushes with a nourishing cream after the procedure. It restores regenerative properties and softens the skin.

You can quickly eliminate blackening from nuts on your hands with ammonia and hydrogen. The latter will be useful not only for cleaning brushes from stains, but also for disinfecting cracks (if any). But in the presence of affected skin, avoid treatment with ammonia.

In the process of peeling walnuts, hands get smeared very easily. And after a hard day's work, there is not the slightest desire to wash them. To keep your hands pretty and not clean them, use rubber gloves. They will take the juice from the peel and protect your skin.
