Wood harvested in winter has a long list of advantages: it is more durable.

The minimum content of juices and sugars in the winter forest reduces the likelihood of fungi, mold, rot, the appearance of blue and black spots.

Own raw material base allows Shelekhov Woodworking Plant to confidently declare that here you will be offered exclusively winter wood of excellent quality.

Correct sawing

Sawing logs into boards, from which timber is subsequently glued, is carried out in different ways.

The most common method is mixed sawing, which is simpler and cheaper. With this option, the quality of the board is noticeably worse. During operation, the boards begin to crack at the joints of annual rings, bristle and peel off.

The most successful - the ex-log method (ex-log) - cut through the core of the log. Boards obtained in this way are more durable and look more aesthetically pleasing. As a result, glued laminated timber looks more textured, more expensive.

At the Shelekhov plant, the second sawing method is used - tangential or ex-log. The Swedish circular saw line ARI is responsible for the correct sawing.

Drying boards

Despite the fact that the forest of winter harvesting has low humidity, the boards still need to be thoroughly dried. At this stage, the natural disadvantages of wood are minimized - susceptibility to various fungi, blackening. But only if the drying is carried out in a soft mode.

Ideal conditions are created in special drying chambers and require 10 to 30 days. Unfortunately, many companies cannot afford to wait that long - it stalls the entire production process.

The Shelekhov woodworking plant has 17 drying chambers with a total load of 2,400 cubic meters. meters. This allows even in the high season to meet construction deadlines without disruptions and delays.

Processing (planing) boards

Pre-calibration helps to identify loose knots and resin pockets in the board.

The result is a lamella - ready for splicing, a perfectly flat board.

To maintain the correct temperature conditions, a Dantherm Filtration (Denmark) warm air return system was installed at the Shelekhov woodworking plant. And even if the necessary conditions are met at the factory, they strictly monitor that after planing the lamellas, they wait no more than an hour for the next stage.

Lamella splicing

The stage at which an important characteristic is determined is the length of the future glued beam, it can vary depending on the project of the house and reaches 12 meters. The splicing of lamellas at the Shelekhov woodworking plant takes place on an automated line of German production Weinig - the world leader in the industry.

A specialized workshop (which not every manufacturer has) allows the Shelekhov plant to produce glued laminated timber up to 12 meters long. This means that the number of seams and joints on the walls of the house is reduced to a minimum.

ShelDoZ offers another unique technology developed by the plant's specialists - radial splicing of lamellas. The method resembles the technology of manufacturing a furniture board, providing additional strength to the product. In addition, the beam with radial splicing of the lamellas looks so exclusive that the walls easily become the main decoration of the house!

Pressing lamellas

The stage at which the finger-jointed lamellas turn into glued laminated timber - a natural high-tech material with excellent quality. At this stage, two characteristics are important - the quality of the glue used and the possible maximum width of the timber.

It is important that the air temperature of 20 degrees Celsius is maintained in the processing workshop. Otherwise, the wood begins to dry out from above, which in the future may adversely affect the quality of the product.

The German press of the LHP 14 heavy series, used at the Shelekhov plant, is capable of pressing any type of wood, including durable larch, because the pressure of more than 12 kg is provided in the process. per 1 sq. see. It is a high-quality press that provides the final width - the better the equipment, the thicker, which means that the walls of your house will be stronger.

ShelDoZ uses eco-friendly water-based glue (Norway), free of toluene and formaldehyde. The glue has a European quality certificate for the production of structural timber.

Shelekhov woodworking plant offers interesting combinations of different types of wood in one bar, for example, the outer part is made of cedar, and the inner part is made of spruce or pine. Possible options - 240x240 mm or 280x280 mm for external walls, 180x240 mm. for structural beams and internal walls.

Beam profiling

At this stage, the profiling of glued laminated timber takes place for further cutting into the details of the house kit.

Technological machinerekor Mida at the Shelekhov plant is capable of simultaneously planing and milling timber in all four planes. Processing takes place in an automated mode, without the use of manual labor, which guarantees smooth surfaces, even and clear cutters. The maximum possible cross-section of the beam for rekorMida 300x500 mm - a record for the region.

Designing a multifaceted house model for cutting

The high-precision woodworking complex Hundegger K2 (Germany) requires a specialized house project, in which every detail is calculated to the millimeter.

At this stage, the project of the house developed by the architects is transferred to the programCAD-Work, designed to prepare files forHundeggerK2. According to this individual multidimensional model, the equipment subsequently manufactures all the details of the house.

The only one in the regionHundeggerK2 and design specialist inCAD-Work work at the Shelekhov woodworking plant.

This is a very precise, high-tech process. He does not tolerate inattention even to the smallest details. Having decided to start manufacturing glued beams, the Siberian Wooden Houses company began with the main thing - the search for good wood.

During our work, we have well studied the properties of different types of wood. And so we decided to give preference to the best pine in the world, growing in the central regions of Russia. And the workshops themselves were located in Nizhny Novgorod, which is very convenient, since the timber does not tolerate long transportation, it can get wet or crack during transportation. The same measure allowed us to reduce the time interval from cutting a tree to obtaining the final result - a finished beam.

Along with wood from the central regions, we also use more expensive Siberian wood, depending on the preferences of our customers.

After a thorough analysis of existing proposals in the segment of equipment for the production of "glulam", we settled on the production lines of Western European production. In particular, our company purchased a number of high-quality German-made machine tools from one of the world leaders in the woodworking equipment market - Weinig. Therefore, we not only do not hide, but are also proud of the composition of our production "park".

When gluing timber, adhesives of one of the world leaders in the chemical industry - AkzoNobel based on melamine, are used, which have high heat, water and weather resistance. All adhesives used have certificates of quality conformity and sanitary and hygienic certificates.

But at the same time, production times are also increasing. Depending on the project, the production of glued laminated timber for the construction of one house, subject to all the necessary conditions, takes from one to two months. To some, this period may seem too long. In fact, the high-quality implementation of all production processes not only ensures that glued laminated timber retains all its performance characteristics in the long term, but also significantly speeds up the assembly of the house itself. Unlike building a house from round logs, carefully fitted parts from glued laminated timber are assembled on the spot literally like a designer, which simplifies the construction process as much as possible. As a result, the customer does not need to overpay for extra material and additional work of the construction team.

If we talk about physical and mechanical properties, then Siberian cedar, or Siberian pine, occupies an intermediate position between fir and spruce. Cedar wood is easy to work with and very durable.

Glued cedar timber: pros and cons

Cedar wood has a number of positive properties, such as strength, ease of processing, interesting texture and color options, a pleasant aroma and antibacterial volatile substances that are released - phytoncides. Only in rare cases should wood of a different species be preferred instead.

Advantages of cedar profiled timber

Thanks to a special treatment, cedar wood acquires increased durability. Glued laminated timber from this breed is used in wooden housing construction.

Cedar is especially good in those structures and units where large drops in pressure and humidity modes are expected. In this regard, it competes with Scotch pine.

As you would expect, this type of wood has a beautiful wood texture and color. That is why cedar glued timber occupies a strong position among the materials for the construction of a wooden house.

Cedar lives 200-300 years, has a straight trunk, reaching an exceptional diameter - up to 1.8 meters, and up to 40 meters in height. Of all the heartwood species, cedar has the lightest and softest wood.

The core of the cedar is narrow and has a pinkish hue. The color contrasts with the yellowish-white broad sapwood.

Late wood is usually poorly developed and smoothly transitions into early wood. It is moderately resistant to cracking and rot, easily machined in all directions, and has a beautiful, unique texture.

Siberian cedar, growing in the extremely cold conditions of the taiga, has unique heat-insulating properties. In terms of strength, cedar timber surpasses some metals.

In Rus', cedar was often used for the construction of houses, log cabins and baths. Cedar resin can repel insects and destroy putrefactive bacteria.

If your house is built of cedar, the wood will provide you with a healthy deep sleep and a wholesome atmosphere in the house. this means that you will prevent many diseases of the nervous system.

The properties of this coniferous tree in terms of health are unique. It is rich in essential oils and phytoncides.

When heated, the cedar gives off an exceptionally beneficial aroma of cedar balsam. The source of the aroma is essential oils that fight many types of pathogenic microbes.

A house made of cedar timber is favorable for human health for a long time. Cedar wood has a heterogeneous brownish-pinkish color.

Advantages of glued laminated timber

Glued laminated timber is one of the most popular building materials today. This is facilitated by a number of its features:

High structural strength
The strength of glued beams exceeds the strength of solid wood structures by an average of 60%.

Stability of geometric shapes, lack of internal "stress"
Having decided to build a house from glued beams, you can be sure that the building will not shrink, and the individual elements that make up its walls will not deform.

No defects on the finished material
Each blank is carefully checked for defects, all of them are selected for texture and color. This is also facilitated by the use of high-quality adhesives, which minimize the risk of cracking. Buildings made of glued laminated timber, even many years later, retain their original appearance and strength of the walls.

Excellent thermal properties
Glued timber has a low thermal conductivity. In winter, the walls retain heat, and in summer they do not let the heat through.

No need for finishing work
Glued laminated timber walls have a flat, smooth surface, which allows you to save on the purchase of finishing materials.

High resistance to microorganisms and fungus
The structural features of the material, its treatment with special agents that prevent decay, as well as the presence of adhesive layers, prevent bacteria and wood pests from penetrating deep into the wood.

Efficiency of construction work
In Siberia, as in any other city, this indicator is of particular importance for builders. A team of 6 people is enough to erect a building with an area of about 100 m2 in a month.

No need to build a strong foundation
Buildings made of glued laminated timber are lightweight with their high strength. Installation of the foundation is optional, which saves time and money spent on construction.

Low shrinkage
This property allows you to start finishing immediately after the completion of the main construction work.

Environmental friendliness
Glulam buildings are completely safe for human health. In addition, the material maintains an optimal microclimate in the room, due to its “breathing ability” (natural regulation of the humidity level).

Glued laminated timber: what types of this material are sold

sell several types of glued beams:
  • enclosing, for non-bearing partitions;
  • structural, for load-bearing walls;
  • single layer;
  • multilayer.
The bar of the enclosing type is applied to construction of internal partitions, protections. It can also perform decorative functions. Structural type timber is used for the construction of load-bearing walls of a building. It differs from the first type in that it is able to withstand large mechanical loads. Single-layer glued structures are strips of wood, interconnected by an adhesive along the length or width in one layer. They serve as the basis for multilayer structures. Also used to make shields. Multi-layer glued laminated timber consists of several layers of solid wood, each of which is glued to the other along the wide longitudinal side.

Production material and properties of glued beams

The essence of the process of production of glued beams is to glue individual boards of certain sizes together with the help of adhesives. These boards can be made from different types of coniferous trees:
  • pine;
  • Siberian cedar pine;
  • cedar;
  • larch (some species);
  • Douglas fir (used only in the USA, Canada, Japan).
To connect wood panels, different types of adhesives are used:
  • melamine. This adhesive composition is used for the manufacture of large-span timber. Used in Russia and European countries. Color - transparent.
  • resorcinol. It is used in the manufacture of structures intended for exterior walls, which must withstand high levels of humidity. Mainly used in USA and Japan. Color - dark.
  • polyurethane. Quick-setting adhesive that allows you to produce glued laminated timber several times faster. It makes it possible to glue wood with a moisture level of up to 18%. Color - transparent.
Also in Russia (including Siberia) they use the EPI system, which is suitable for the manufacture of elements used in low-rise construction.

Glulam construction, product selection

Information about the main stages of construction of buildings from glued laminated timber will allow customers to adequately assess the qualifications of craftsmen and control the quality of work:
  1. Creation of a project, coordination of technical nuances, preparation of estimates, determination of the cost of work.
  2. Foundation laying. Due to the lightness of glued beams, a powerful foundation is not laid under it. If the area is not characterized by an elevated groundwater level, the height of the foundation will be 0.5-1 meter in height.
  3. Installation of the building box according to the project.
  4. Roofing works according to the project.
  5. Connecting the house to communication engineering networks and the electrical system.
  6. Internal finishing works according to the wishes of the customer.

The first and most important point that you should pay attention to when choosing a building material is its purpose.
Other options are also possible:

Glulam house for permanent residence
To create comfortable living conditions in a house made of glued laminated timber, where it is supposed to live permanently, you should opt for a building material with a cross section of 200-250 mm, having a heat transfer of 1.3 m ° C / W. This thickness is quite enough to create a comfortable temperature regime, even on frosty days. An economy version of such a house is walls made of timber with a cross section of 140 mm with a heat resistance of 1 m ° C / W, insulated from the outside with foam or Ursa. On top of the insulation - decorative trim.

Glulam house for seasonal living
If you use the house during the first night frosts, then it is better to choose a material with a cross section of 160-180 mm. This thickness of the walls will withstand temperatures within 1-2 degrees below zero. If you leave the house before the first cold snaps come, then you can purchase a bar with a thickness of 140-150 mm. Additional wall insulation is not required.

You should also pay attention to the following points:

Tree origin
If a tree for production is brought from the northern regions, then it will be of much higher quality than a tree from the southern regions. The cheapest, and therefore low-grade, wood from the marshy area is considered.

Wood type
The middle class is pine or spruce. Low grade - pine and spruce lamellas, laid mixed. You can distinguish pine from spruce by the number and size of knots. Pine has few of them, but they are larger.

Timber grade
The material must comply with the technical specifications, where tolerances for the number of knots and the presence of defects are prescribed. If the seller says that the glued laminated timber complies with GOST, this does not guarantee the quality of the material at all, since GOST has too many tolerances.

Glued laminated timber grades sold:

Material Warranty:
If the manufacturer gives a guarantee on the material - this is a big plus. Immediately specify the moment about replacing the marriage, reporting the stock, the type of profile used, the possibility of cutting in the bowls of the wind pockets.

Glued beam length:
By the length of the proposed timber, you can find out what equipment is used for its production. If the manufacturer offers a beam 12 meters long, this means that modern equipment is used that is capable of producing such long lamellas. The old equipment is capable of producing timber up to a maximum of 6 meters in length. Pay attention to the length of the front boards. The longer they are, the better quality wood was used. The highest grades are boards 1.5-2 meters on average, but such a beam is usually used in shipbuilding, lower grades of beam can be used for wall construction.
