Masonry drawings for arranging a brick barbecue are specific plans or diagrams created specifically for convenience in the process of assembling the structure. For any arrangement, a general plan drawing is required to familiarize yourself with the dimensions of the barbecue and calculate the amount of material for it.

The foundation, of course, is behind a monolithic foundation; without a reinforced foundation, a serious structure cannot be erected. It is also important, before working with rows, to place several layers of insulation on the already dried foundation to avoid moisture build-up.

We work in order

We start from the first row, where it is important to maintain the level. We are talking about floor level if construction is above the natural horizon. It is most convenient to align the cord along the planes and only then use a trowel, applying cement or clay mortar to the base.

The simplest arrangement of a brick barbecue

If the first row is usually just a plane made of brick, then further it can be more complicated, because some barbecue designs are built with a cauldron or an additional oven.

An example of arranging a barbecue with a cauldron or outdoor oven

Description of the masonry

From the sixth we move on to the butts (transverse masonry). It should turn out that the brick rests on the ledges on each side (plane). They are necessary for the arrangement of the grille and its correct location in the future.

Continue the next 3-4 rows of half a brick, maintaining the original thickness. And from the tenth row it is necessary to repeat the order of the barbecue oven, with the expectation of repeating the transverse laying for the grates.

Although brick protrusions can be bypassed by replacing them with steel corners or other fasteners. It is important that this point is thought out at the time of laying outdoor barbecues, then you can do it yourself reliably, taking into account the space for a smokehouse or additional compartments.

They often try to make a corner option like an extension, when the main stove is simply placed on the foundation, and a barbecue or a place to fire a cauldron is laid out separately on the corner. Everything is simple here: we place a wall with a height below the working plane, ending the last row with bonded masonry. A support for a stone countertop, for example, is placed in a similar way. But such material is not always affordable; it is often replaced with wood covered with tiles.

Variants of orders and schemes

How it works in practice

The order is not difficult to imagine in diagrams created for construction literature. But in reality everything looks much more interesting.

Start work like this

This is the base and space for fuel. Then you need to raise small walls, create spaces for the door and ash pan

After this, you need to arrange the overlap of the lower tier using three rows of bricks. Then it will be possible to set up a barbecue next to the firebox, just under the ash pan.

Let's just say that, having completed this work, the first cycle is downloaded. You can start creating the structure from the top, where there will be protrusions or rods.

The most important point when studying the order is that you need to use a refractory type of brick, which cannot be laid on ordinary clay.

You need to purchase a heat-resistant solution or special clay.

The plan also includes a chimney installation on almost every brick BBQ project. But it is advisable to do it after the finished structure has completely dried. The way out of the situation when there is no time and excess material is to construct a frame from reinforcement and boards. It turns out to be a kind of formwork into which concrete is poured. It's cheaper and faster.

Technical points

A simple DIY brick structure is sometimes placed on a poured foundation slab, but does not use mortar. This approach is optimal for those who are not confident in their abilities, want to save money, or simply test a country version of a barbecue or barbecue.

It will come out quite original, and the order is the same, only this can be disassembled if necessary, enlarged in size, or even assembled into stacks of bricks

There is only one minus - the lack of good protection from the wind, because there is no usual arch. And if the structure is not assembled under a canopy, then the heat from the coal will have to be protected during the rainy season.

A barbecue without a solution, a smokehouse and a cauldron can be assembled by eye, but they always try to calculate their actions in advance, calculating similar plans or drawings on paper

Results

Simple barbecue ovens and barbecues made of bricks are not built without several procedures that have been tested in practice. Yes, you can build for luck if you have extra money. But the main mistake in this case is that nothing can be changed without damaging the stove. Therefore, before planting on the solution, they try to measure each row dry, correcting the defects, working on inaccuracies.

When installing a major brick stove in a summer kitchen, you should remember that any stove increases the fire hazard and requires compliance with all construction standards and regulations. This means that for its construction it is necessary to use a special refractory fireclay brick, which is resistant to high temperatures, but at the same time is an excellent thermal conductor, warming up the room quite quickly. It is important to properly ventilate the stove. At the stage of constructing the foundation, it is necessary to lay out this area with bricks in the place allocated for the furnace. Also, in the future, when constructing a roof, it is necessary to provide for the installation of an exhaust pipe to remove heat and smoke, etc. from the working area.

Wood-fired barbecue oven

The barbecue oven can run on electricity, gas or burn coal and wood. Outwardly, it is very similar to a fireplace with a combustion chamber, which is usually located at the level of a person’s waist. A barbecue requires a reinforced foundation, and it is also important to properly install a hood through which heat and smoke will be removed.

A barbecue oven can have different configurations - it may include an ordinary hob or oven, a grill or barbecue, a countertop, a place for firewood and storage of utensils. There are such designs that include not only a barbecue, but also a tandoor, a cauldron, a smokehouse and other elements.

If you need a multifunctional large barbecue oven, it is better to resort to the help of professionals, but a small oven can be built with your own hands.

There are many options for prefabricated barbecues and brick ovens. Based on the presented models, you can build something according to your own design. The main thing is to arrange everything correctly to minimize the risk of fire, especially when building a stationary brick oven indoors.

A homemade brick barbecue is a more solid version of a stationary barbecue for arranging a summer kitchen.

It will become an excellent decoration and, of course, will allow you to prepare more delicious and varied food. Before you build a brick barbecue, you need to know that it is also called a “barbecue”, and in the standard design plan it should include three compartments.

Of course, the construction of such a barbecue will cost more, but the meat obtained on bricks is much tastier and healthier. Durable and high-quality brick is quite expensive, but you can save money by doing all the work on building the barbecue yourself. In this case, we will describe the simplest version of a brick barbecue, which you can easily build yourself, even without much experience.

The presented option of how to build a brick barbecue with your own hands can be changed by using your own dimensions of the parts or adding some additional functional elements to the design. You can build a canopy over the barbecue stove to protect it from the rain, and nearby set up a dining room under a tree, or install such a stove inside the summer kitchen or outside not far from it.

In the latter case, the summer kitchen itself will contain all the necessary kitchen equipment, as well as a sink and a refrigerator. It is even more convenient to place a barbecue oven outside the summer kitchen - there is less risk of fire, it will not be so hot to cook in the oven in the open air, and the inside of the summer kitchen will remain cool, unless it is planned to be used in winter - then, naturally, the oven is installed inside .

First you need to choose a convenient place for the barbecue oven. If it will be installed outside, it is necessary that the distance from the stove to the house or kitchen is not large, since during the preparation of the dish you will have to constantly bring something from the kitchen - dishes, water, etc.

When choosing a barbecue design, you need to pay attention to the style that is most suitable for the architecture of all buildings on the site. It is imperative to determine in advance the size and design of the stove, where it will be placed (in an open space or inside a summer kitchen), what kind of foundation is required for it (depending on the components of the structure).

Also at the preparatory stage, it is necessary to think about the lining of the firebox, take into account the shape and height of the chimney, whether the stove will be equipped with an additional oven or smokehouse, what fuel is planned to be used (coal, wood, electricity, gas).

There are really a lot of questions - is it necessary to build a canopy to protect the stove from rain, an additional table and wind protection? And also, what facing material will be used, whether to install a heat reflector and a tray under the coal, what will be the design of the spit, grate or brazier, will there be cast iron inserts.

All this needs to be thought out in advance and then be sure to draw a general view of the barbecue, drawing individual details and indicating their sizes. You should also find a place to place the shelves in advance, as they should fit well with the appearance of the barbecue. It is also necessary to provide space for storing utensils and supplies of coal or firewood.

Barbecue grill
Barbecue grill

When drawing up a barbecue plan, first of all, you need to take into account that the structure must be stable. It is also important to properly position the barbecue (for grilling). It should be at such a height that it is as convenient as possible for cooking. Typically, the grating is installed at a height of 9-10 rows of brickwork.

If the grate is too low, you will have to bend over while cooking, which is very inconvenient. And if you put the grate too high, you will have to reach high, and at the same time your face will constantly be close to the burning coals.

The grate and coal tray must be installed on brick ledges or metal rods. They must be removable, since they must be periodically cleaned of rust and stored in the house for the winter.

In a barbecue, you can use a regular stove grate. It should be borne in mind that it should be larger than the hearth with burning coals, so that the finished barbecue can be moved to the side next to the hearth, but at the same time keep them hot. The roasting rack must be protected from the wind. Under it there should be another grate, with smaller cells, on which burning coals will be located, and under it a tray into which burnt coals will fall.

Watch how to set up a brick barbecue with your own hands in the video, where all types of production elements are presented and advice from the masters is given:

Diagram, laying and ordering of a brick barbecue with your own hands

Laying a brick barbecue consists of several stages - choosing a location, drawing up a barbecue plan, building a foundation, erecting brickwork with the installation of all structural details, constructing a pipe, cladding and designing the building.

To lay a brick barbecue with your own hands with three compartments, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • sand;
  • cement;
  • gravel;
  • reinforcing mesh;
  • brick;
  • ceramic tile;
  • Master OK.

Currently, you can buy ready-made kits for arranging a barbecue oven. The standard set includes the barbecue grill itself, a charcoal tray and fasteners. These kits can be used when building a brick barbecue with your own hands.

What the foundation of the furnace will be depends on its size. The do-it-yourself brick barbecue scheme allows for the possibility of making a concrete strip foundation, but for a more massive structure a tiled one will be required.

The foundation completely hardens approximately 2 weeks after pouring the concrete, and only after that can you begin to build the barbecue itself.

First, you need to lay 2 layers of roofing felt on top of the foundation to protect the structure from moisture, after which you can begin laying the brick stove. In this case, we are considering the option of a standard barbecue consisting of three compartments. From brick you will have to lay out a figure in the shape of the letter “W” with 4 partitions. What kind of brick barbecue will turn out, the order and diagram can be shown in advance by carefully examining the barbecue construction plan.

The rows must be laid out in a certain sequence - each next row must be shifted in relation to the previous one in a checkerboard pattern. This is the so-called half-brick masonry, which should provide the necessary bond of brickwork. Even before starting the laying, you need to tighten the cords indicating the position of the future wall of the barbecue, and use a trowel to apply a layer of mortar. This needs to be done along one of the walls. Then you should make small grooves in the mortar and begin laying the first row of bricks, checking it with a horizontal level.

In total you will need to lay out 8 such rows. If you plan to place a sink in the 3rd compartment, you need to leave a hole for the drain in the 6th row.

First, it is necessary to build floors that unite two adjacent compartments of the future structure. To do this, you need to cut off the metal corners of the required length and put them on top, and then make the same, but continuous ceiling of bricks in one row. To lay the 2nd layer, you must definitely use a heat-resistant clay mixture intended for ovens and braziers, since it is impossible to make a reliable grill using cement alone.

STEP #2

STEP #3
STEP #4

STEP #5
STEP #6

The most difficult stage of the work is laying the furnace itself. This can be an ordinary rectangular direct-flow furnace without a blower. The thickness of its back wall should be three bricks. There must be room in the front for a door. On the side where the oven will adjoin the brazier, you should leave a hole the size of two bricks.

It is necessary to make protrusions for the roasting grate and the charcoal tray. When building a brick barbecue with your own hands, order is very important. When laying the 5th row, you need to form a supporting ledge, and then lay the 6th row of bricks across - the entire row of bricks should protrude from both sides of the wall. The next three rows again need to be laid in half a brick. In this way, protrusions for the grate and tray are formed.

Sometimes it happens that there is no pallet of the required size that would fit the width of the brick projections, and then a metal shelf can be used to support it.

Then, in the 10th row, you need to build another ledge and add three more rows on top using the spoon dressing method - this is the end of the main part of the barbecue.

If the stove design will use metal rods to support the barbecue, then during laying between the 6th and 7th rows, these metal rods must be laid out in all three walls. This should be done in such a way that the rods protrude from the walls by 70-75 mm and a grill with a tray can be installed on them.

The rods must continue to be laid until the 10th row in each subsequent row. This is required in order to install the roasting rack at the required height.

After this, all that remains is to lay out a rectangular roasting pan and make a pipe of any shape. This arrangement of brick barbecues is used in all such structures without exception.

It is also necessary to arrange a barbecue work surface. The simplest way is to build a low - 6 rows high - brick wall.

This building must be done on a separate strip foundation, which is poured parallel to the side walls. Such a small wall is called a plinth wall. You need to lay it out so that the brick rests side by side.

After this, you need to cut a sheet of plywood and lay it between the side wall lip and the baseboard wall. Lay boards on the sheet and cover them with tiles or ceramic tiles. You can even use ordinary paving slabs to cover the working surface.

Expert advice

After completing the construction of the barbecue and its working surface, it is necessary to begin processing all the seams. To do this, use cement mortar, which needs to be filled in all the seams and rubbed in thoroughly. Before the solution hardens, it is necessary to run jointing along the seams to give them roundness. If the craftsman does not have jointing at his disposal, this can be done using a regular cutting of a garden hose.

If the plinth wall will be connected to the main structure, then up to the sixth row the structure must be built in the form of the letter “E”, and then continue laying the side and rear walls of the barbecue itself. As a result, a niche is formed under the grate with a tray, which can then be used to store charcoal or firewood. If this opening is equipped with a door with a handle, it will be quite possible to store dishes here.

With this, the main functional part of the stove will be built, and then the structure can be supplemented with various shelves and other elements, decorated at your discretion, etc.

The constructed furnace must “settle” for several days for the solution to completely harden. If you light a fire in it before the solution dries completely, its walls may crack.

In the future, when using the stove, it is necessary to clean the barbecue after each cooking so that dirt and grease do not accumulate, otherwise in the future you will have to thoroughly clean the stove.

DIY construction of a barbecue oven with a brick grill (with photo)

The construction of a brick barbecue does not necessarily always involve the monolithic construction of all structures. You can build a brick barbecue oven with your own hands in the so-called temporary version. This is convenient if there is no space to build a permanent, stationary structure. If necessary, such a stove can be disassembled and folded for storage in a specially designated place, and then reassembled. This is easy to do, since such a furnace is built without the use of cement or clay mortar. This is the cheapest and fastest to build brick barbecue structure. At the same time, it is very effective, because bricks laid without mortar freely allow oxygen to pass through, which promotes better and complete combustion of charcoal.

The shape of such a barbecue can be rectangular
The shape of such a barbecue can be round

The shape of such a barbecue can be round, triangular, square, rectangular or hexagonal. You can choose any form - it will depend on your own wishes.

Look at the photos on the page, which are built in a temporary design and at the same time allow you to cook any dishes over an open fire:

To build a brick barbecue you will need the following materials:

  • boards for formwork (unedged);
  • roofing felt;
  • fire-resistant brick for cladding;
  • clinker matching the color of the brick;
  • cement mortar;
  • metal pipe with a diameter of 15 cm;
  • edged boards for tabletops;
  • sheet of metal to cover the cutting table;
  • grill grate;
  • metal tray for coal.

To build a round barbecue you will need about 100 bricks, and for a different barbecue shape - a little more.

First you need to select a site and build a strip foundation on it. It should dry for about 3 days, then you need to put roofing felt on it and only then you can start building the walls of the stove. You need to lay out the first row of bricks according to the desired shape, leaving small gaps of about 5 mm between all the bricks. The next row is laid with a shift of half a brick to ensure the strength of the wall.

When five rows have been laid out in this way, a metal tray for coal is installed. You need to lay two more rows of bricks on top, and a roasting rack on them. Next, you need to add an arch in the form of a brick gazebo to protect from the wind, that is, build protective walls on the sides and behind the barbecue.

The standard height of such a building should be 9-10 rows of bricks. You can install a tabletop next to the stove to make it more convenient to prepare food; nearby there is a table, benches, and a chaise longue.

It's hard to imagine a holiday in a country house without grilled meat. Metal barbecues are undoubtedly convenient and inexpensive designs. But no matter how carefully you treat them, any metal will burn out over time, and you will have to think about a new purchase. In addition, the metal grill must be removed after use so that hunters for other people's property do not covet it in your absence. The most correct and reasonable solution is to build a brick barbecue at your dacha. The editors of the site have collected for you, in our opinion, the most interesting ideas for finished projects, as well as detailed instructions for construction from foundation to exterior finishing.

A beautiful barbecue oven will decorate your yard

The main thing in the design of a garden roaster is proper heat distribution. For this purpose, barbecues and grills made of brick have three vertical walls and a chimney for exhausting combustion products. The heat from the fuel rushes upward into the hood, so working at such a grill is a pleasure. These garden ovens retain heat for a long time, so you can fry more than one batch of meat while the coals cool.

It's all about the practical side of things. But there is also a purely aesthetic one - such structures, made with your own hands, can become a real decoration for the recreation area on your site. The main thing here is to maintain reasonable proportions and correctly combine the architecture of the structure with the overall design project of the estate. The most popular today is the country style, which combines rustic simplicity and practicality with solidity and special aesthetics. Natural stone decoration and powerful canopies that can hide from bad weather are the main features of this style.

Look at the photo to see what brick barbecues can look like.

Pros and cons of brick barbecues

Skeptics may object: why bother with such costly and difficult construction when it is much easier to get by with a factory-made barbecue made of thick-walled metal? Let's look at the pros and cons of a brick garden fireplace.

AdvantagesFlaws
Long service life - such barbecues do not rust or burn out.The solid design takes up a lot of space and requires a separate area that is safe for working with open fire.
Excellent heat retention, which allows you to use fuel economically and cook meat evenly.A brick grill is not mobile, it cannot be moved.
The possibility of incorporating the structure into the overall architectural ensemble, worthy design of the recreation area.To build a barbecue grill, a special heat-resistant material is required.
Possibility of DIY construction and versatility of finishing.

The size of a brick barbecue directly depends on your needs. Drawings and photographs of a wide variety of designs are easy to find on the Internet; it will not be difficult to choose the option that is suitable specifically for your yard.

Brick barbecue complex: dimensions and design

If you are planning to build an outdoor brick barbecue, it makes sense to consider a complex structure. It can include work surfaces for arranging dishes and cutting meat, a firewood rack for storing fuel, a cauldron, and additional devices for smoking meat and fish.

You can focus on the following dimensions:

  • the minimum width of the oven is 60 centimeters, the optimal is 80. The dimensions largely depend on the brick used;
  • The height of the grill is 70 centimeters. These parameters can be adjusted to suit your height;
  • the stove itself and the place for fuel are located 10 centimeters below the grill;
  • The height of the barbecue is at least 2 meters, and taking into account the chimney - all 3.

These are the dimensions of the simplest design. Add to them countertops and other accessories you need, and you will get the overall dimensions of the complex.

How to choose the right place for a barbecue structure

Location is an important point in the construction of a barbecue complex. There are several tips for selecting a territory:

  • a stove with an open fire cannot be built near wooden buildings and other flammable objects;
  • It is better to choose the location of the complex away from home, so that smoke and food aromas do not come through open windows;

  • smoke from the stove should not disturb your neighbors, otherwise your plans for a barbecue may be disrupted by the arrival of the fire brigade.

If we summarize these requirements, it turns out that the best option for locating a barbecue grill is the backyard on the leeward side.

Brick BBQ Projects: Popular Models

Any construction begins with a project. You cannot do without it in this case either. The sketch of your future complex needs to be turned into an order. This is not easy, so for novice craftsmen the best advice would be to use drawings and photographs of brick barbecue projects with a ready-made order. So, it will be easy to imagine the location of each brick. Such drawings for making a brick barbecue with your own hands can be found for free on many resources. We have selected a few for you as examples.

How to build a brick barbecue oven with your own hands

It would seem that building a barbecue is a simple matter. Nevertheless, it is worth approaching it with all responsibility. The durability of the structure will depend on your approach. Properly selected material and stable construction, good finishing - all these are components of success.

Selection of material and necessary tools

To build a foundation you will need cement, sand and gravel or crushed stone. The foundation is reinforced using metal reinforcement. For the stove, in addition to bricks, you will need to buy a stainless steel sheet, a metal tray, roof tiles, a metal corner and a wooden beam.

And now about what brick to use for a barbecue. Keep in mind: a barbecue can only be built from special, fire-resistant bricks, and not every building material has such qualities.

Only fireclay or ceramic bricks are suitable for building a barbecue. The firebox itself is usually made from fireclay, and ceramic is used to construct the chimney. The main requirements for bricks for barbecue:

  • brick density in technical documentation is from 20 to 100 units;
  • frost resistance (marked in documents with the letter F) - from 30 to 300;
  • the brick should not have cracks, chips or other visible defects;
  • The porosity of the material should be low, and the color should be uniform.

You can quickly check the brick right in the warehouse: hit it with a hammer. The tool will bounce off a good solid brick. Poor quality will immediately “pop up” in cracks.

To work, you will need the usual mason tools: a shovel and a trough for preparing the binder mixture, a trowel, a building level, and a jointing tool.

Basics of making a do-it-yourself drawing of a brick barbecue

It all depends on whether you are going to build just a stove with a hood or build a gazebo around it. If we are talking only about the barbecue, then a primitive drawing with size calculations will do. You should start from the dimensions of the building materials. The height of the foundation is usually 3-40 centimeters, dimensions are one square meter. A firewood rack is usually planned under the brazier. It is much more difficult if you are planning a brick barbecue in a gazebo. Here you will have to start with the layout of the canopy itself, calculations of its area and location of the brazier.

There should be a meter of free space in front of the grill to make it convenient to cook. You also need to think about where the table will be located and plan a place for pulling out chairs.

Step-by-step instructions for building a barbecue oven with oven and cutting table

Let's figure out how to independently create a monolithic brick barbecue with a cutting table.

IllustrationDescription of action
The work begins with determining the location and marking the area for the barbecue complex. After marking, select about 20 centimeters of soil and install sides for pouring.
Fill the prepared area with crushed stone and prepare a reinforced frame for pouring.
Fill the prepared area with concrete. Use high-quality cement of a grade of at least 300 for pouring.
The lower part of the barbecue can also be made from foam blocks. They will not be subject to heat since they are not in direct contact with the fryer.
The author of this project used an original idea - he used wave slate to fill the base of the brazier. I made sides for it and secured it with mortar directly onto the base masonry.
Fill the base with concrete and wait a few days until it settles.
For the roasting pan, you need to make a metal tray from thick-walled steel.
A small oven for baking over an open fire can be made from an old gas cylinder.
After installing the stove, you can mark the place for the brazier and begin laying its walls.
Carry out the laying consistently. By the way, the back wall can be made of less “ornamental” brick, since it will still turn black from smoke after the first cooking.
To install a chimney pipe, gradually narrow the masonry upward.
The chimney can be made from a concrete pipe or an old metal barrel.
Line the cutting table with ceramic tiles. This surface will be easy to wipe clean.
The lower part of the structure must be closed. To do this, make wooden doors.
Install the doors and place inside the firewood and the necessary equipment for cooking: baking sheets, grates, and so on.
Place a roasting rack over the roasting pan. To install the grille during the laying process, you need to remove the metal pins on which it will rest.
Enjoy the process. In such a complex you can cook pies and bake meat and vegetables.

How to beautifully decorate a brick barbecue

The design of a barbecue complex can be very diverse. You can use natural stone; it looks very colorful against the backdrop of the garden. Tiles, colored bricks, plastering and the use of real tiles are popular.

Any home craftsman who knows how to work with brick can make an outdoor barbecue oven at his dacha. The purpose of this article is to help the homeowner correctly build a garden stove with his own hands, using a ready-made project with instructions. For convenience, we provide some drawings and examples of masonry.

We are building a barbecue complex with a hob

To build an outdoor stove on a summer cottage, we propose to implement the project shown in the photo. Let us list the technical features of the structure:

  • 2 workplaces capable of functioning simultaneously - barbecue and hob;
  • overall dimensions in plan – 1660 x 1020 mm, height – 3220 mm (including the chimney with the cap);
  • the collection of flue gases from both fireboxes is organized into one pipe;
  • the design is simplified as much as possible - instead of the arched arch of the firebox used in the firebox, there is a direct ceiling on a metal frame;
  • under the kebab grill there is a niche for storing and drying firewood;
  • the chimney is equipped with a closed brick cap, which prevents precipitation from entering the flue.

Note. At the request of the homeowner, the scheme can be changed. For example, install a cauldron instead of a stove, and adapt the grill to a grill. Cabinets for placing dishes or a smokehouse must be built separately.

At first glance, the design of a universal barbecue stove seems complicated, but in reality it is quite simple to implement. It is better to place the structure under a canopy or inside so that the masonry is not washed by rain and lasts longer.

Before starting construction, a platform measuring 176 x 112 cm must be provided on the veranda (a margin of 50 mm on each side of the stove body). Make sure that the chimney pipe does not coincide with the load-bearing roof beams, otherwise the roof will have to be redone.

Construction materials

To build a complex barbecue oven with your own hands, shown in section in the drawing, you will need to buy the following set of materials:

  • clay bricks of standard sizes – 720 pcs. (full-bodied recommended);
  • fireclay stone grade ША-8 for laying fireboxes – 80 pcs.;

  • loading door 25 x 21 cm, ash pan - 25 x 14 cm;
  • cleaning doors 13 x 13 cm – 3 pcs.;
  • equal angle corners 40 x 4 mm, 4 studs with M12 threads and nuts (length - 70 cm) for assembling the floor frame;
  • cast iron panel for 2 burners 71 x 41 cm;
  • sheets of basalt cardboard and roofing felt;
  • periodic profile reinforcement Ø 12-16 mm in the base.

Note. The quantity of bricks is indicated taking into account the construction of the chimney pipe and the cap.

Sectional diagrams of the furnace

For fireclay masonry, you should purchase special refractory clay or mortar. The body of the furnace is laid out on a clay-sand mortar with the addition of M400 cement. Crushed stone, sand and Portland cement will be used to construct the foundation. How much building materials are needed depends on the stability of the soil and the depth of its foundation.

Laying a reinforced concrete foundation

Since the weight of the structure exceeds 1 ton, it cannot be built on the ground or cement screed. A reliable foundation is required, spaced 5-10 cm from the base of the veranda. A foundation pit is dug for construction, the depth of which depends on the occurrence of dense soil horizons. As a rule, it does not exceed 1 m.

Reference. In soils subject to frost heaving forces, it is necessary to build a pile-screw foundation connected by metal beams or a concrete grillage.

The step-by-step foundation laying technology looks like this:

  1. Mark and dig a hole 1760 x 1120 mm, compact the bottom with a vibrating plate or manually. Place a cushion of sand 0.1 m thick and repeat compaction.
  2. Fill the pit to ground level with rubble - fragments of stones, bricks and other solid construction waste, excluding wood. Fill the voids with clay and water slurry and let it harden.
  3. Make a reinforcing mesh by tying the rods at intervals of 10-15 cm. Install it on top of the backfill, lifting it by 3-5 cm using stands so that the rods are in the thickness of the concrete.
  4. Make homemade formwork from boards 20 cm high.

The last stage of pouring is preparing concrete grade 150 and placing the mixture in the formwork. The proportions of bulk materials are 3 parts sand + 5 parts crushed stone per 1 measure of Portland cement M400. Place the upper plane of the monolith horizontally and leave it to harden for 4 weeks. It is recommended to remove the formwork after 7-10 days.

It is advisable to place a layer of roofing material under the reinforced concrete slab for the purpose of waterproofing, as shown in the diagram. Then the monolith will not be saturated with moisture from the soil. More information about laying furnace foundations is described in the video:

Preparing for construction

To begin, cover the hardened concrete slab with 2 layers of roofing felt to ensure waterproofing of the brick structure. Assemble the standard set of stove-maker tools shown in the photo: trowels, brushes, measuring devices, and so on.

You can make the mortar for a backyard barbecue oven yourself or buy a ready-made building mixture. In the first case, proceed in this order:

  1. Soak the clay, as free from soil as possible, in a trough with water for 1-2 days.
  2. Pass the clay solution through a sieve, separating the pebbles and kneading the lumps.
  3. Sift the sand and mix with liquid clay in a ratio of approximately 1:1.
  4. Before laying, add cement in the amount of 200-300 grams per bucket.

The finished solution should not stick too much to the trowel, and when squeezed by hand, give a minimum of cracks. To achieve better properties, experiment with the proportions of sand and clay.

Note. Mortar for fastening refractory bricks is prepared according to the instructions on the packaging (bag).

Laying instructions

To build a brick oven-barbecue, we suggest using step-by-step instructions, accompanied by photos and procedures:

Using the ordering example as a guide, lay out the chimney with the cap closed on top. The height of the pipe can be adjusted by decreasing or increasing the number of identical levels from the 28th to the 38th tier. The process of laying this barbecue structure is discussed in detail in the video:

Advice. If you want to expand the functionality of the structure, simply add additional elements on the sides of the stove. The laying of the rear wall can be continued to the sides using any red brick.

When finished, let the stove dry for 2-4 days, depending on the weather. Then test fire both BBQ chambers using a small amount of wood.

How to lay stove bricks correctly

To successfully build a functional outdoor stove, be sure to follow the following masonry rules:

Remove any mortar protruding outwards with a trowel, and wipe the internal surfaces with a damp cloth. If you lack experience, do not try to chop stones with a pick; it is better to use a grinder with a cutting wheel for concrete.

In conclusion - the simplest stove options

We deliberately proposed to immediately build a serious garden barbecue complex, since a multifunctional oven is of greater interest to users. If you manage to build a similar barbecue out of brick, then adding bedside tables, a smokehouse, and even building a fireplace will not be a big problem.

Instead of a capital structure, you can make a simple structure, shown in the photo. There is no need for mortar, nor is there a need for a foundation: just buy a ready-made barbecue mesh and lay out a brick cabinet according to its dimensions. To prevent the building from collapsing, select a flat, solid platform.

The simplest barbecue with a smoke collector is built in the form of two retaining walls on a cement-sand mortar. A reinforced concrete slab is cast for installing the brazier (or a ready-made one is used). An alternative option is to tie the brick walls together with a frame of corners. The smoke collection umbrella is made of ordinary roofing steel.

Before you start building a brick barbecue with your own hands, you should make drawings and use them to calculate the amount of building materials needed. In this case, the scheme must be created independently, since there are no universal barbecue designs.

Drawing up an action plan

During construction, you must follow the general instructions that apply to any type of barbecue:

  1. the grill should be made at least 70-80 cm, taking into account the height of the owner;
  2. the stove is traditionally located 10 cm below the grill level;
  3. a niche for firewood and cabinets, and a hook for tongs should be provided.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account all the small details so that later it will be convenient to use the structure. When the drawings are ready, you should make calculations, draw up an action plan and prepare a list of building materials (including for the foundation).

The list of materials for main work should include:

  • fireclay and facing bricks;
  • clay and ordinary mortar;
  • metal rod d-30 mm;
  • steel sheet 5 mm;
  • doors for the firebox and ash pan;
  • grate.

And for arranging the base:

  • construction mixture;
  • reinforcing bars;
  • boards for formwork construction;
  • crushed stone and sand.

The construction of the furnace takes place on a slab base, the frame is erected from fireclay bricks. After which it is lined with stone. Granite, sandstone, dolomite, and rubble stone are suitable. You can show your imagination and give the fireplace any fancy shape.

Why brick?

Very often, barbecues and barbecues for dachas are created from scrap materials: barrels and, a little less often you can see welded structures (from the simplest to artistic casting). It is much less common to make a brick barbecue with your own hands. Many are convinced that they are practically no different from portable structures.

But the heat distribution pattern in brick structures is completely different. The heat from the coals in open grills is directed upward, cooking only one side of the meat. Therefore, during processing, it is necessary to periodically turn the product over to the other side to ensure even frying.

The brick structure of the barbecue acts like an oven, only without the door. Heat, reflected from its inner surface, simultaneously affects the entire surface of the product, ensuring its uniform processing.

This significantly improves the taste of dishes, making them more juicy and tender.

In this regard, the following advantages of a brick barbecue compared to a metal barbecue can be noted:

  1. uniform processing of food;
  2. the ability to build complex structures with an additional cooking surface, smokehouse, grill and sink;
  3. a barbecue can be made one of the most attractive parts of the site.

How to make a garden barbecue

Like any other structure, a barbecue for a summer residence is built on a foundation. The pavilion should fit harmoniously into the design of the site. Since such a pavilion will be used year-round, it is better to build a garden type fireplace.

The construction of the fireplace must comply with basic safety regulations; the chimney must be installed on the roof. The construction of such a structure has a rather complex technology. Externally and functionally, it is a fireplace, which is used to decorate the interior of a dacha.

Thematic material:

A gazebo or pavilion with a fireplace can be styled as a fairy-tale hut for receiving guests or arranged as a summer house with kitchen utensils, dining furniture, a sofa and a TV. If the barbecue is located in a pavilion, it is better to entrust its construction to specialists, but if you have a little experience, you can try to build it yourself.

The basis of the elementary design of a barbecue is a quadrangular frame; coal is placed in it, over which a grate is placed. It is advisable to make a structure such as a fireplace multifunctional: build a firewood rack at the bottom, a dish rack above it, a barbecue itself above it, and a smokehouse can be located above it.

In this case, the structure will be multi-story. You should decide what the design of the future fireplace for the dacha should be, and then make drawings and outline a construction plan.

Barbecue options

When considering brick barbecue projects, sometimes there is a desire to supplement the drawings with your own elements in accordance with personal preferences. Some future owners, when building a brick barbecue with their own hands, equip it with an additional barbecue and stove.

Barbecues can be very diverse:

  • barbecue fireplace;
  • barbecue grill;
  • multifunctional building;
  • barbecue with one hearth;
  • barbecue with grill and cauldron;

Additional accessories for such furnaces are very diverse. For example, oven, spit, tandoor, cauldron and others. Complex structures include hand-made and prefabricated ones.

An interesting idea - a complex. Permanent structures can be built as a three-story structure. Semi-finished products are placed in the chamber on grates or suspended. For cold smoking, a brazier with coals and a baking sheet with wood chips are placed inside the chamber, and for hot smoking, logs of the appropriate types of wood are placed in the firebox.

This smokehouse has only one drawback: it strongly absorbs odors. Therefore, if you process meat after fish, it will acquire a specific smell, and sometimes even a taste. In this case, it is better to make this device from iron.

Construction of a brick barbecue

The positive aspects of installing a barbecue oven are its decorative appearance and functionality. It is better to install such a structure not in the open air, but in a pavilion or summer kitchen.

Let's look at a step-by-step plan for building a barbecue for a summer residence.

Step 1: Arrangement of the foundation

Initially, a site for construction is selected. When placing a barbecue in a building, it is necessary to prepare a foundation for it. Together with it, a base for a barbecue oven is made; it is similar to a slab foundation.

The pit is made 0.3 m larger than the dimensions of the structure, and about a meter deep. The formwork is installed and a sand and gravel “cushion” is laid on its bottom. It is covered with the first layer of mortar (0.2 m), and then steel rods are laid like a lattice. From the end of pouring until the solution completely hardens, 1-3 weeks should pass.

Step 2: Preparation

Before starting construction, you should select building materials for construction. It should be remembered that for the construction of a furnace, two types of bricks are needed: the main refractory one and for cladding. At the same time, only fireclay bricks that are resistant to high temperatures are laid in the firebox area, which also has excellent heat-saving qualities and long-term heat transfer. And a standard refractory brand of brick is acceptable as an exterior finish.

Step 3: Construction

In the construction of the structure, an ordering scheme is used (see below). It takes into account the usual brick dimensions - 230*114*65. For the firebox and stove, bricks should be laid only with clay mortar, and in places not in direct contact with fire, ordinary bricks are allowed to be used.

Pre-mixed fireclay mortar requires red clay, cement, sand and water.

Step 4: Firing

After the stove is erected, firewood or coal is placed in the firebox and barbecue and then set on fire. This is necessary for firing the inner surface of the furnace walls. The heat is brought to the maximum possible.

This is one of the most functional stoves for a summer residence. For small areas, a simplified scheme is suitable. When choosing the type of garden barbecue, you need to take into account all its parameters: functionality, size, location on your summer cottage. For the convenience and durability of the structure, it would be advisable to build a gazebo or pavilion.

Step 5: Drying

After heating the oven, the next step is drying. It should be carried out in the summer in clear weather - at least 5 days, and in the fall in cloudy weather - up to 20 days. In this case, it should be covered from possible rain with a protective film.

The final stage will be decorating the stove. The bricks should be freed from excess mortar and paint should be applied in the right places to highlight the seams. After which the barbecue oven is completely ready for its intended use.
