Considering the transience of time, modern people are increasingly giving preference to quick methods of taking hygiene procedures.

There is no doubt that soaking in a hot bubble bath is a real pleasure, but what if you simply don’t have time for such relaxation? In this situation, a shower comes to the rescue.

As a rule, taking a shower is a less time-consuming procedure.

Modern shower cabins have a lot of options that can satisfy any consumer desires. Depending on the model and cost of the shower cabin, you can get a shower with a steam room and other functions.

But what if all these technical innovations are not needed, and the cost of the shower cabin is high? In such a situation, you can resort to building a shower with your own hands. In addition, the shower cabins presented in stores do not always correspond to the required dimensions.

And if a shower is required for a summer house or country house, where use occurs only one season a year, then a do-it-yourself shower is an excellent solution.

When creating a shower, you can use various materials that meet the desired characteristics.

Shower materials

In order to start making a shower with your own hands, you need to think through everything down to the smallest detail. You should start with the room itself; it must be insulated, have waterproofing, as well as a well-thought-out water drainage system.

There are a lot of options for creating a shower, but basically, to make your tasks easier, you purchase a ready-made shower tray. Such pallets are installed indoors, and the cabin is made from available materials.

Ceramic tile

Tile is a good material for a homemade shower cabin; it meets all operating requirements. Tiles come in many colors and sizes.

To create a shower from ceramic tiles, you can use a tray, or when laying out the tiles, make a slope directly into the floor.

PVC panels

PVC panels are used for final finishing inside the shower stall. The material is quite unpretentious and has good performance properties, but such material is short-lived.

Polycarbonate

This material has many colors, is budget-friendly and durable. The interior looks quite interesting.

The polycarbonate is installed on a metal corner and the joints should be sealed. It has proven itself well in operation, with proper care.

If the finished pallets do not fit in size, or are simply not suitable for you, you can make a pallet yourself.

There are several ways to make a pallet. The simplest is a pallet made of brick. If this method is chosen, then be sure to use roofing felt as waterproofing. You can use concrete to create a pallet, but this method takes longer.

To make showering comfortable, communications need to be established at the initial stage. If there is no central water supply, then a well with an electric pump is suitable for these purposes, which will supply cold water when the tap is opened.

And for hot water, you can hang a water heater, to which you also need to supply cold water. A self-made shower with cold and hot water is the pride of the owner of the house. And taking hygiene procedures in such a shower is a pleasure.

Whatever construction and finishing material is chosen, as well as the shower tray, the main thing is the presence of a drain made at an angle. Also, special attention should be paid to waterproofing the floor and walls in the shower.

If the inner surface of the walls and floor in the shower will be tiled, you should start tiling two rows away from the floor and install supports. After all the tiles have been laid, grout should be used.

Photo of a shower cabin in a bathroom

How to decorate a bathroom with a shower installed in it? This question often arises both among owners of private houses and among residents of standard city apartments. But in your own home, bathrooms are usually spacious, and therefore arranging all the necessary accessories in them is much easier than in a cramped shared bathroom, as well as coming up with a design and finishing. Unfortunately, on the Internet you can most often find sketches and designs for premises, the vast area of which remains a pipe dream for most apartment owners.

A small one with a shower cabin, the design for which is much more difficult to come up with, is almost not discussed. But various engineering communications also pass through this room, requiring a certain camouflage, which also complicates the design process.

It is about bathrooms with a shower stall, organized in small areas, about the possible difficulties of their design, taking into account certain nuances, that will be discussed in this publication.

Preparatory work

In order for the finished bathroom, fully equipped with all the necessary accessories and finished, to look as originally intended by the owners, preparatory measures must be carried out that will streamline all further stages of work.

Drafting

First of all, a project is drawn up for the bathroom, in which the bath will be replaced with a shower. Usually this process aims to make the room more spacious or combine the bathroom with the toilet, so that, if possible, even expand the kitchen or hallway, depending on the layout of the apartment.

The main task of design is to be able to fit everything you need into a limited area

When developing a preliminary project, you need to remember that it is quite possible that adjustments will have to be made to it in the future after all communication pipes are opened. Masking boxes may be added to the sketch, since, depending on the project, there may be a need to relocate and extend water and sewer pipes.

Preparing the premises

Having thought through and completed on paper an approximate “layout” of the location of all items, you can move on to the next stage of work. It can be carried out in different ways:

  • Removing all old bathroom accessories.
  • Dismantling the partition between the bathroom and toilet, if it is decided to combine them into one room. This process should be carried out only after agreement with regulatory authorities.

Next, after dismantling all the elements, you need to get rid of the debris and thoroughly clean the walls and floor from dust. If the walls are tiled or decorated with other decorative materials, they must also be removed immediately.

If it is decided not to move the toilet, but to leave it in its original place, then it is recommended to dismantle it last. If you can live without a bathroom for some time, then it will be much more difficult to do without a toilet.

Planning and installation of utilities

When the room is free of everything superfluous and unnecessary, it becomes possible to freely inspect the condition of the old pipes and, based on the bathroom design, think about how best to lay out the pipes by making the appropriate drawing.

If the repair is carried out only in the bathroom, and the sewer riser remains in the toilet, then it is recommended to hide both the water supply and drainage pipes in the walls. To do this, grooves are cut into which communications are installed - this will also help save some of the space.

In addition, it is recommended to install at least one socket in the bathroom, since very often this element is not enough to turn on a hairdryer. It may also be needed for a washing machine if it is planned to be installed in this room. The electrical cable also needs to be hidden in the wall, first enclosed in a corrugated tube, and the socket itself must be purchased with a special one, with increased moisture protection.

After all the pipes and cables have been installed, the grooves are sealed with cement-sand or gypsum plaster mortar.

If the bathroom is combined, then all water supply and sewerage communications are usually combined and compactly mounted near the central sewer riser. It will still not be possible to move it, so the entire communication node can be disguised at once with a plasterboard box.

Particular attention is paid to the method of connecting the shower stall itself to the sewer riser. Some pallets have a very low drain pipe, so to connect it to the waste pipe you will have to either bury it in the floor or raise the booth itself to the required height. The pallet is raised using special adjustable legs, or a brick pedestal is laid out on which the shower stall is installed.

If the bathroom is combined and a shower cabin is installed instead of a bathtub, then some prefer not to install a box, which can spoil the interior design, but to install a masking wall made of plasterboard with an elegant shutter door. This option is especially suitable when, when combining a bathroom and toilet, the central sewer pipe ends up in the middle of the rear wall of the room.

It is necessary to leave an inspection window so that utility workers have free access to pipes, valves and meters. Well, an elegant door will cover the entire interweaving of pipes, so the door should be selected last, to match all the existing finishing.

It is also necessary to take into account that the inspection window must open freely, which means it cannot be blocked by any bathroom accessory.

In order to create such a wall or box, you will need to purchase a special galvanized metal profile and moisture-resistant drywall.

It is recommended that before starting installation of the frame, you need to think carefully, and best of all, even draw the location of each of its elements so that the structure is strong, and the window for access to the pipes is of sufficient size and located in a convenient location.

Waterproofing bathroom surfaces

Even before installing the masking box, after sealing the grooves and removing debris from the room, the floor must be covered with waterproofing. This must be done especially carefully around all pipes of any purpose passing through the ceilings (feed-through sleeves).

When waterproofing, pay special attention to corners and pipe passages

It is very important to waterproof the joints of walls and floors well, covering the walls with the composition to a height of no less than 120÷150 mm, and in places where plumbing fixtures are installed, even above the level of connection points (plumbing “sockets”). In these places, a special sealing tape must be glued, and only after these strips have dried, it is necessary to cover the entire surface of the floor with a waterproofing compound.

The future bathroom is completely waterproofed

Waterproofing will save apartment owners from unnecessary troubles in the event of an emergency, for which, unfortunately, it is impossible to fully insure. Water spilled on the floor surface will not flow to neighbors living on the lower floors. To prevent water from leaving the bathroom, the door must be equipped with a threshold, which also needs to be waterproofed.

Waterproofing the bathroom floor is the most important stage of renovation!

There are several types of materials used for these purposes. A special publication on our portal will help you understand their diversity, choose the most optimal one and become familiar with the main technological methods of implementation.

How to choose a shower stall

Having prepared the room for the installation of all the necessary accessories, you can start choosing the purchase of a shower stall. In order not to be mistaken with the dimensions, you must first take accurate measurements of the area where the cabin is planned to be installed, and accurately determine the area that can be allocated for it.

Moreover, if you plan to purchase a booth, even if it has an almost triangular shape in plan with a small semicircular protrusion, then you should still take a square as a basis. The model you like in the store should be measured there from all sides, so that at home you can transfer these dimensions to the place for installing the cabin.

Prices for River shower enclosure

River shower corner

Currently, the assortment of specialty stores offers a variety of shower stalls - from the simplest to those equipped with numerous additional options. Naturally, their prices also vary greatly. In addition, they can be of different types, shapes, and made from different materials.

Shower stalls are mainly divided into two types based on their basic design - open and closed. What they are should be of interest first of all.

Open showers

Open showers are those that are limited by side walls but do not have a ceiling.

There can be two or three walls in the booths of open models; they can be installed in the front part of the structure and against the walls. In addition, there are options that have only front walls, which are attached to a frame mounted on the wall.

Such cabin models are considered economy-class products, since they are generally equipped with only a basic set of functions. They are often also called “shower enclosures”. Cabins that do not have back walls require enhanced sealing at the junction of the tray with the wall, the same as when installing a regular bathtub.

The absence of some additional functions is also explained by the fact that they will be useless in a structure of this type, since it does not have a ceiling, and, for example, “aromatherapy” or “sauna” will be effective only in an enclosed space.

Open booths are produced that can be installed without a pallet, but such models should still not be installed in high-rise apartments, since even if high-quality waterproofing is done, there is a possibility of flooding in the lower floor apartments.

In addition, the floor will have to be raised with a screed by at least 70 ÷ 80 mm in order to lay the waste pipe in this layer and mount the drain. Such a screed, even without taking into account the still necessary finishing of the floor, will significantly increase the weight of the floor structure, which can be extremely dangerous, especially for old houses.

It is not advisable to purchase a booth with a tray that has low sides, as this can also lead to flooding of the lower floors.

The only way to correct the situation (except for the screed) is to install the pallet in a well-waterproofed podium, which is usually made of brick. It is already possible to hide the drain pipe in it and lead it to the sewer, observing the obligatory slope of 2 - 3 degrees.

It is better to use such options for bathrooms of private houses, when the water from the pan is immediately drained into the sewer pipe.

Closed cabins

Closed type showers are otherwise called boxes. They differ from shower enclosures in that they have a tray, walls on all sides and a roof. Such cubicle cabins can be equipped with only the main function - a shower, or be multifunctional.

They are given a variety of shapes - in plan they can be a rectangle, circle, semicircle, triangle, etc. Their dimensions along the perimeter or diameter depend on the parameters of the pallets, which, in turn, can also differ in height and material of manufacture.

Bath with shower

Another option that will take up not much more space in the room than a regular bathtub. This is a whole complex that allows you to lie in hot water and relax or invigorate with a shower.

“Symbiosis” of bath and shower

This compact accessory is produced in different variations, and can be equipped only with a shower or have many other functions, including original lighting and even the ability to listen to music.

Sometimes such a cabin can have a rectangular shape, like a regular bath. There are also corner options, but they will require more space than a standard accessory.

Homemade shower cabins

Such a shower cabin can be built by the apartment owner himself, but it would still be better to purchase a ready-made shower tray. Of course, you can fold it yourself, but you shouldn’t load the ceiling - it’s enough to make a podium around the perimeter from brick.

Two walls or one, as planned by the designer, can be made of brick and covered with tiles or built from glass blocks.

The size of a homemade shower stall will depend on which tray is suitable for a particular room.

On sale you can find glass blocks of different colors and textured patterns, so you can choose them to suit every taste. These elements are also quite easy to install - the main thing is to constantly monitor the verticality of the masonry.

All that’s left to do is build a partition

Installing walls in a bathroom is almost the same as erecting partitions from different materials, including glass blocks. How - read in a special publication of the portal.

Shower trays

As mentioned above, the tray determines the shape of the shower stall. It can be square, rectangular, triangular, oval, or have an asymmetrical shape. Another defining parameter of this element in the cabin design is depth. Pallets can be deep - up to 450 mm, shallow - from 100 to 180 mm, and flat, only 30 mm deep.

Typically, pallets are equipped with an anti-slip textured coating. They are selected according to color, which should be in perfect harmony with all the accessories of the cabin or with the color scheme of the interior design of the walls, floor and ceiling.

Pallets are made from different materials - it can be cast iron, steel or acrylic.

  • Cast iron enameled pallets are highly reliable and can be installed on a steel frame or a brick podium. They are perfect for homemade shower stalls.

  • Steel pallets are also coated with enamel, but they are less durable because they have thin walls. When installing them on a frame or an empty podium inside while taking a shower, the sound of falling water will be very loud. Therefore, in such cases, it is recommended to cover the back side of the pallet with polyurethane foam, which will create a noise-absorbing layer. Steel pallets are less durable than cast iron, but if handled carefully they will last at least 10–12 years.

Steel pallets are inexpensive and quite practical with careful care
  • Acrylic trays have recently become the most popular, as this material is highly hygienic, pleasant and quite warm to the touch. The acrylic tray is lightweight and quite durable if installed properly. If scratches appear on it, they can be easily rubbed off with fine-grained sandpaper.

The shallow tray is mounted in a special frame. If this option is chosen for a homemade shower stall, then a podium must be installed for it, exactly according to the shape of the bottom.

Some trays can also be used as a shallow bathtub. In such varieties it will be necessary to install a “drain-overflow” system.

  • You can also build a homemade pallet if it is small around the perimeter and in height, that is, it will not overload the ceiling. It is recommended to use mosaic tiles for cladding, as they will create a non-slip surface.

When embedding a sewer pipe into a homemade pan, you must remember that it must be located at a slope of at least 2 ÷ 3 degrees.

Shower walls and doors

These shower enclosure guards are made from impact-resistant glass or acrylic. Acrylic walls and doors can have varying degrees of transparency and vary in color, but glass is easier to clean, since water does not linger on it and quickly drains without leaving marks. In addition, it does not become cloudy over time, unlike clear acrylic panels.

Doors in the shower can be hinged or sliding, consisting of two or four leaves. Sliding type doors have a higher degree of tightness in the closed position. The doors move using rollers and do not require additional space to open them.

Prices for popular shower cabins

When choosing a stall with a hinged door design, you will need to think in advance about installing other accessories in the bathroom, since they should not interfere with the doors, otherwise they can be accidentally damaged.

Additional functions of shower cabins

A few words need to be said about the additional functions of shower cabins, since some of them are also reflected in the interior design.

  • Backlight. The finished shower cabin can be equipped with lighting, which is carried out using special waterproof lighting fixtures. This feature allows you to shower without turning on the main lighting in the bathroom. In addition, specially designed lighting has a therapeutic effect on the human condition (in medicine this concept is called chromotherapy).

In this case, the lighting can come not only from the walls and ceiling of the cabin, but also the streams of water coming out of the shower head are colored. Colors can be changed using the remote control, depending on your mood and which body system should be affected.

  • Aromatherapy. This function allows you to fill the cabin with aromas with healing effects. To achieve this effect, steam and water are passed through a chamber containing an aromatic balm. The aromatherapy function can only be installed in closed cabins, otherwise the desired effect cannot be achieved.
  • Tropical shower. This function simulates pouring rain, and this effect is achieved using a nozzle specially installed in the ceiling of the cabin. “Tropical Shower” relaxes the muscular and nervous systems well, so it is recommended to take it before bed.

The “tropical shower” nozzle is usually mounted in the roof of the shower stall
  • Cold and hot shower. This function has the opposite direction: if a summer shower relaxes, then a contrasting one will invigorate and increase efficiency. During the procedures, cold and hot water are automatically supplied alternately in a predetermined temperature range.
  • Hydromassage. Hydromassage devices can be horizontal and vertical. A horizontal hydromassage can be installed in a deep tray, which is essentially a whirlpool bath.

Vertical hydromassage is the one for which nozzles supplying air and water flows are installed on the side walls of the cabin. The quality and variety of available massage functions depends on the number and location of nozzles. Hydromassage can improve well-being, normalize blood circulation and have a positive effect on intestinal function.

  • Turkish bath. If this function is provided in the booth, then inside it you can create a special microclimate with 100% humidity at a temperature of 40÷60 degrees. This option is achieved using a steam generator that generates and dissipates steam inside the cabin.

It should be noted that in order to achieve the effect of the hydromassage function and create the microclimate of the Turkish bath, the pressure in the water pipes must be no less than 2÷3 Bar.

In addition to these functions, shower cabins can also be equipped with voice control, music, detergent dispensers and much more.

When purchasing a shower stall with an abundance of different functions, you must immediately expect high energy consumption. Connecting the cabin to electricity must be done with a separate cable, which must be grounded, so you should invite a specialist for installation and connection.

Is it possible to install a shower stall yourself?

Practice shows that this is a rather difficult, but still quite feasible task. Advice on this is given in an article on our portal specifically dedicated to this issue.

Bathroom finishing

The surfaces of a bathroom with a shower stall installed in it are most often tiled with ceramic tiles, since this material is ideal for this room. However, there are other options.

Wall decoration with plastic panels

The range of PVC panels is very diverse

They are perfect for decorating walls in the bathroom; they can be found in a large variety in hardware stores. An important condition for their installation is the maximum possible evenness of the wall surfaces. This is necessary especially if the bathroom space is very small and installation will have to be done using glue.

The advantage of choosing plastic panels is that they are more affordable and any novice craftsman can install them, and this is especially important for saving money, which is already spent quite a lot during repairs.

An important condition for the quality of installation of this material is the tight connection of the panels to each other and careful sealing of all joints.

The most “budget” option for wall decoration in the bathroom is PVC panels

When you buy high-quality panels and follow the technology for laying them, you will get a beautiful, durable, hygienic coating that will last for many years. How to do it yourself - in a special publication on our portal.

“Classic” wall decoration – ceramic tiles

Cladding with ceramic tiles is a more labor-intensive job, since you need to master the technology of its laying. Therefore, in order to get an impeccable result, you often have to invite a master veneerer, and his work will not be cheap. It is especially important to carry out the process according to all the rules if you intend to decorate the walls with tiles with an ornamental image or fit panels into the main masonry.

If you still decide to try your hand at this work, then the walls will need to be leveled to perfection. This task can be dealt with by using sheets of plasterboard, which are mounted on the wall using a construction adhesive mixture. Such leveling is possible if the walls do not have excessively large differences. For surfaces in the bathroom, only moisture-resistant plasterboard with a green front surface is used.

Use drywall to level the walls!

Ideally smooth gypsum boards will level the surface and become a good basis for further finishing, including ceramic tile cladding. In conditions of limited bathroom space, it is more advantageous to apply directly to the surface. How this is done is in a separate article on the portal.

Floor finishing

The floor in the bathroom can be tiled with ceramic tiles, covered with a moisture-resistant laminate, or decorated with a self-leveling epoxy coating.

Ceramic tiles on the floor must also be laid skillfully, otherwise level differences may form. This will not look aesthetically pleasing, and in addition, it can lead to injuries, since it is easy to trip on the protruding tiles or scratch your foot.

If the shower tray has low sides, then the flooring is made only of ceramic tiles.

Tiling the floor - how difficult is it?

The process cannot be called simple, but if you strictly follow all the technological recommendations, you can do it yourself. To decide on it, it is recommended to study the special publication of our portal.

  • The floor can be decorated with laminate if a closed shower stall with high tray walls is installed. With this option, the risk of water overflowing and hitting the floor surface will be much lower.

Laminate has an advantage over ceramic tiles in that its surface is much warmer and less traumatic, which is very important when getting out of the shower.

The “disadvantage” of this coating is its shorter service life. But if you purchase material with a high resistance class, lay it and use it carefully, and do not walk on such a floor in shoes with hard soles, then the laminated coating can last quite a long time.

  • A self-leveling epoxy or polymer floor is suitable for a bathroom that has a shower stall with any tray, since it performs two functions at once - waterproofing and decorative coating. The disadvantage of this type of floor is that to install it you will have to invite a professional, whose work will be quite expensive. And the set of materials for such filling itself will cost a “good” amount.

A modern approach to finishing a bathroom - self-leveling epoxy flooring

A self-leveling polymer floor with patterns, fillers or even a three-dimensional design will look very advantageous in the bathroom. In addition, the problem of waterproofing is immediately completely solved. To learn more about the technology and evaluate your capabilities, read the special publication of the portal.

Bathroom ceiling

The ceiling in the bathroom is decorated using different materials - it can be plastic panels, suspended ceiling, slab, painted, decorated with polystyrene foam tiles, made of plasterboard suspended structure and others.

The most important element of a bathroom interior is a beautifully designed ceiling.

The ceiling in the bathroom - a special approach

Each type of ceiling finish has its own advantages and disadvantages, both during installation and during operation. To find out, read the special article on the portal.

Design options for bathrooms with shower

In order to imagine what different options for shower cabins might look like in the interior of small bathrooms in standard apartments, it is proposed to consider several possible design solutions in more detail.

Option No. 1

In this case, the combined bathroom is arranged in a room whose area is usually reserved only for the bathroom.

The compact arrangement of all the necessary elements contributed to the fact that a fairly large area of the room remained free. For this purpose, a simple compact shower cabin without additional functions with a medium-depth tray was chosen, so it does not weigh down the interior. Its matte-transparent walls, as well as a mirror that reflects the opposite wall, help expand the space.

For the walls and floor, two types of light-colored tiles were used, which harmonize perfectly with each other. A narrow ceramic border with an ornament that includes both colors used in the interior is used as a decorative decoration, which both unites and separates them.

Light colors, as well as floor tiles laid diagonally, visually expand the room.

To prevent the room from appearing narrow due to the height of the ceiling, white tiles are laid not to the entire height of the wall, but in the form of a wide insert, which is framed by a narrow border of ornamental tiles. The upper part of the walls is decorated with a strip of the same color as the lower part of the interior - this seems to make the ceiling lower, and the room does not seem too narrow. Combining color between floor planes and panels also expands the space.

The central sewer pipe has a shelf design that is not only functional, but also fits perfectly into the design.

We can say about this interior that the designer thought through every detail of its design - from the color scheme to the placement of all accessories. Moreover, a space has been prudently left where, if desired, the apartment owner can easily install a washing machine and secure a towel rack.

Option No. 2

In this case, free space in the bathroom appeared due to the combination of two rooms - the bathroom and the toilet. When demolishing the wall between these rooms, part of it was prudently preserved to convert it into a medium-height partition separating the bath and toilet areas. The compactness of this element makes it almost invisible in the interior; moreover, its preservation made it possible to preserve the location of the heated towel rail, which was simply replaced with a smaller version.

The interior uses two shades of the same warm color, which makes the room lighter, and the white ceiling echoes the interior elements, which look like light spots against the background of a dark orange tone. The border separating the color zones is a kind of “highlight” that adds aesthetics to the design and emphasizes the panel area.

Such a color scheme, although thought out in warm sunny tones, still requires more intense lighting, since the dark orange tint of the panels and floor does not support it, but rather absorbs it. Therefore, only the white ceiling and accessories located on a dark background look like light spots.

For this bathroom, a compact, simple shower cabin without additional functions with transparent walls was chosen, which contributes to the effect of expanding the space, and the rounded shape of its doors softens the lines of the interior. Smooth lines and warm colors can put a person in the mood for relaxation, which is good for the evening hours, when water treatments are taken before bed, but does not at all contribute to the mood for increased performance.

It should be noted that such a design is not well thought out in terms of color scheme, since the room requires additional lighting. The arrangement of all interior elements is successful, quite compact and occupies a small area. The rest of the room can be used to install other traditional bathroom items and appliances.

Option #3

The interior in this case is made in cool colors. Although the room is quite bright and does not require additional lighting, the chosen gray and white finish looks rather dull and “official”. There is thoughtful neatness in the interior, thanks to the rational arrangement of all accessories, however, there seems to be a lack of home comfort. If a facing material of this shade is chosen and the room is already decorated in a similar style, then a bright warm-colored rug placed on the floor and a colored panel on the wall will help correct the situation. These details will add warmth, comfort and light to a dull, monochromatic interior.

The layout of the room is successful, but the design style is somewhat “cold”

The positive aspects of this design include the horizontal arrangement of rectangular tiles on the walls and diagonal ones on the floor provided by the designer. This solution visually expands the space and makes the room more voluminous.

In the option under consideration, a shower cabin has been chosen, which has a massive shape and a greater number of functions. It is the center of the interior and the first one, upon entering the room, attracts attention, and the remaining elements seem to support its presence, filling the space.

In general, the interior is decorated with professional precision and calculation. The only drawback is its monotony and coldness of color.

Option No. 4

This small bathroom is located in a small apartment, the so-called “Khrushchev”. Having such a small room, you have to think through the installation of each of the elements with special care, and the shower cabin with its compactness can be called the only rational solution.

Managed to fit literally “on the spot”

In this interior, despite its small area, the sewer line and pipes running next to it are perfectly camouflaged with the help of a built-in duct. Moreover, the box fits perfectly into the design, without standing out and, it would seem, not taking up space at all. The shower stall successfully found its place between the wall and the protruding part of the box. Although it does not look compact in a small room, it looks very aesthetically pleasing and neat. The semicircular sliding doors of the booth have frosted glass, and this additionally contributes to the visual expansion of the space, as they close the corner of the room in which the booth is installed, thereby blurring the boundary of the wall.

The room is decorated in light colors, and tiles the color of baked milk are used. This approach, together with the white color of all accessories, enhances the lighting of the room.

In the interior shown, the area is used as rationally as possible with a well-chosen color and arrangement of all the elements necessary for this room.

Option No. 5

Another room that seems to make it impossible to place in it everything necessary for hygiene procedures. However, the skillful designer did an excellent job here too, choosing compact accessories and successfully placing them in the space.

There was even space in the room for a pencil case, a washing machine and a mobile trolley bedside table, on which detergents and towels were conveniently placed.

Moreover, a shower cabin was chosen for this bathroom, which has a deep tray that can be used almost like a full-fledged bathtub. In addition, the cabin is equipped with additional functions, as well as a seat, which makes water procedures as comfortable as possible.

The walls and floors were decorated using ceramic tiles of contrasting colors. The panels are covered with dark blue cladding material, and the upper part of the wall is made white, which makes a small room that does not have natural light quite bright. A narrow border, separating two colors and having them in its ornament, softens the sharp transition from the dark lower area of the wall to its upper, light part.

We can say about this interior that it contains everything necessary for receiving procedures. Moreover, despite the small space, quite a lot of space is left for free passage to any of the accessories.

In conclusion, I would like to note that in order for the interior created in the bathroom to be used for as long as possible, it is very important to carry out preliminary preparation of the room, as well as choose the right accessories for it. Having followed all the recommendations for arranging this room, the owners will receive a comfortable bathroom that will last for decades.

To conclude the publication, here is another interesting design option for a bathroom with the installation of a shower stall.

A small niche near the entrance to the bathroom is the optimal place to install the toilet. For the Art Deco style interior in the photo, the designers chose a traditional floor model, but with a hidden cistern. After installing the installation, a small shelf was created above the toilet, which, with the help of facades that matched the design, was turned into a household cabinet.

Finishing a room with high humidity

In the photo: White bathroom with turquoise accents

Such a multifunctional room as a combined bathroom needs a combined finish. It will not only improve its appearance, but also help zone the space. For the shower, mosaic is preferable, which allows you to easily and effectively design even structural elements of complex curved shapes, and for the walls in the wash area and the floor - large-format tiles. But it is worth remembering that the choice of finish largely depends on the style of the design project and the properties of the materials - they must be beautiful, moisture-resistant and washable.

Slate-imitating tiles or decorative panels with a rust effect are a good backdrop for white modern-style sanitary ware and light wood furniture. This finish looks brutal and creates an expressive contrast with large-format glossy white tiles.

In the photo: Design of a combined bathroom with a shower in a modern style

Contrasting decoration in a combined bathroom does not need companions, so both the plumbing and shower in such an interior should be as laconic as possible. The best solution would be a wall-hung toilet and bidet of a strict square shape, as well as a shower corner with a transparent fence.

In the photo: Design of a combined bathroom in a modern style on Mosfilmovskaya

When it comes to a room with expressive decoration, there is no point in adding bright accents to the interior - bathroom accessories can easily handle the role of decorative elements. For the project on Mosfilmovskaya, Fundament specialists chose minimalist chrome faucets and a black designer panel-type heated towel rail that looks like an art object.

Choosing plumbing fixtures for a combined bathroom and toilet room

In the photo: A full set of plumbing fixtures in the interior of a spacious combined bathroom

The more spacious the combined bathroom, the more plumbing fixtures can be placed in it, turning a utilitarian room into a spa. As for the minimum set of equipment for such premises, it includes:

  • bath or shower;
  • sink;
  • toilet (can be supplemented with a bidet).

Design of a combined bathroom 4 sq. m with a minimum set of plumbing fixtures

In the photo: Interior of a combined bathroom in the residential complex "Garden Quarters"

Design of a bathroom combined with a toilet, 4 square meters. m in the residential complex "Garden Quarters" is made in a non-classical style using white and gold tones. Considering the small size of the room, the designers of the Fundament group of companies equipped it with a minimum set of plumbing fixtures, choosing models in retro style.

In the photo: Design of a combined bathroom in the neoclassical style

A small rectangular bathtub built into a niche takes up little space and fits perfectly into the decor. It is organically complemented by a compact rack for accessories, decorated with light mosaics, and a glass curtain with a rotating “wing”.

Design of a combined bathroom with shower

In the photo: Modern bathroom with bath, toilet and shower

The main goal of combining a bathroom and a bathroom is to increase the usable area. Additional square meters will allow you to conveniently place all the necessary plumbing equipment and create a beautiful interior. In most cases, a shower stall is installed in a combined bathroom rather than a bathtub. This solution allows you to significantly expand the functionality of the room and perfectly organize the space.

In the photo: Guest bathroom with toilet and shower

When choosing a color solution for the design of a combined bathroom with a bathtub or shower, architects and decorators, first of all, take into account the style of the project and the area of the room. Classic, neoclassical and art deco suggest milky, gray-blue, powdery tones, and modern style – coffee, chocolate, truffle and sand shades, as well as a contrasting black and white design. It is better to decorate a small bathroom in light colors, while more saturated colors are suitable for a spacious one. Light, in any case, must be functional.

Functional light and glass partitions in a combined bathroom with shower

Shades of latte and Baltic sand are an excellent choice for a combined bathroom in a modern style with a glass wall and an open shower area. The finishing design imitates natural materials, so the room looks cozy. Supports the overall concept and furniture. And high-tech lamps add a bit of fashionable urbanism to the interior.

The washroom area is illuminated by ceiling spots, the luminous flux of which is directed strictly downwards. In addition, the mirror has its own LED lighting, so there is no need for additional light sources.

In the photo: Combined bathroom in the Vorobyov House residential complex

The shower room is illuminated by two LED spotlights built into the ceiling. They are designed for damp rooms and provide even, diffused light. In addition, due to the absence of partitions, light from the wash area penetrates into the shower room.

Bathroom with toilet and tinted bath-shower

In the photo: Combined bathroom with shower in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex

To design the combined bathroom with shower in the photo, the designers of the Fundament Group of Companies proposed a light palette including white, gray and sand shades. In this color scheme, we selected a multi-component finish (modular mosaic, large glossy tiles imitating marble, porcelain stoneware) and furniture: a wall-hung wash table with a cabinet and a linen closet.

In the photo: Combined bathroom with bathtub and shower in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex

Due to the fact that the area of the combined bathroom in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex is more than 7 square meters. m, the designers were able to organically fit a large combined bathtub-shower cabin with a radius facade into the space. The black back walls and tinted glass doors turned it into an interior dominant and added expressiveness to the design.

In the photo: Bathroom with toilet and shower in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex

The wall-hung white toilet and bidet of the original shape look very modern. The installation for plumbing is hidden behind a false wall, finished with sand-colored modular mosaics. And the resulting shelf after installing the equipment can be used to place bath accessories and beautiful decor.

A bathroom with a shower in a retro style in the residential complex "Garden Quarters"

In the photo: Wash area in the combined bathroom in the Garden Quarters residential complex

The area of the small guest bathroom in the photo, decorated in a classic style, is a little more than 3 square meters. m, but it fit everything you need without any problems. Light milky and vanilla shades in decoration, furniture and plumbing visually expand the space. And the golden-yellow fittings and retro-style accessories with decorative ceramic inserts give the interior an aristocratic sound.

In the photo: Toilet in the combined bathroom in the residential complex "Garden Quarters"

To make maximum use of the available space, a corner shower stall was installed in the bathroom, the glass walls of which are decorated with a sandblasted pattern. It looks very light and does not overload the space. And the floor-mounted toilet and washing area were placed in small partitions.

Combined bathroom with bath

In the photo: Combined bathroom with corner bath and shower

If the space of the room allows, in a combined bathroom it makes sense not only to equip a shower corner, but also to install a bathtub. This can be either a familiar rectangular model, suitable for embedding in a niche, or a free-standing bathtub with an original design.

Combined bathroom 5 sq. m with a vintage bath

A small vintage bathtub on bronze lion claws is an exclusive option, perfect for a combined bathroom in a classic style. It can be complemented with both wall-mounted and floor-standing faucets in a retro theme, as well as an original waterproof curtain on a ring ceiling holder.

In the photo: Combined bathroom 5 sq. m in the residential complex "English Quarter"

The finish in a noble gray-blue color scheme is a suitable backdrop not only for a vintage bathtub, but also for a classic white washbasin and mirror. Thanks to the spectacular plinth at the bottom of the walls, the bathroom looks like an elegant boudoir. And the designer chandelier and sconces with imitation candles further enhance this feeling.

In the photo: Combined bathroom 5 sq. m in the residential complex "English Quarter"

To isolate the toilet area during the renovation, a partition was erected, which also became the wall of the utility block. A washing machine was built into its lower part (an actual solution if there is no separate laundry room), and a linen closet was built into the upper part.

Combined bathroom in a modern style with a free-standing bath

Finished with tiles reminiscent of concrete and relief panels, the combined bathroom in the photo amazes not only with the play of textures, but also with the plumbing. And its main “heroine” is a large ergonomically shaped bathtub. Installed diagonally and complemented by a stylish floor-standing faucet and a unique lamp, it looks like an art object.

In the photo: Modern combined bathroom in the Vorobyov House residential complex

For a conceptual interior, the best solution would be sanitary ware from one collection. Therefore, the elegant countertop washbasin fits perfectly into the decor.

In the photo: Modern combined bathroom in the Vorobyov House residential complex

The toilet was also chosen to match the theme with the bathtub and sink, which the “Fundament” designers supplemented with an original heated towel rail. But the shower enclosure with a transparent frameless fence plays the role of an invisible person in this project.

Large combined bathroom with plunge pool and mosaic decor

The spacious combined bathroom in the Setun Valley residential complex, with an area of almost nine meters, is unique in all respects. If you need to quickly get ready for work, you can use the shower located in the niche. And for relaxation, a free-standing plunge pool located near a wall with a designer mosaic panel is ideal.

In the photo: Combined bathroom in the art deco style in the Setun Valley residential complex

The restroom area in this beautifully designed space is completely inconspicuous, although it is in plain sight. The secret is in the correct selection of equipment - the bidet and toilet from the same series have an elegant shape and look like works of modern art.

A long washbasin with two built-in sinks literally merges with the wall decoration and attracts attention. And the large mirror above it reflects the luxurious decor, so that the atmosphere looks more festive.

Design of a combined bathroom with a washing machine

In the photo: Combined bathroom with washing and drying machine

Washing machines in modern apartments can be placed:

  • in specially designed laundry rooms;
  • in dressing rooms;
  • in the kitchen;
  • in the bathroom.
The last option is the most popular in our country. An experienced designer will always be able to find a place for a washing machine in the space of even a small bathroom.

In the photo: Organization of a laundry area in a combined bathroom

The washing machine is often placed under a single countertop that encloses the washbasin area. Such an area must be carefully designed by the project designer, the plumbing fixtures must be selected exactly to size, and the countertops and furniture must be custom-made.

In the photo: Location of the toilet and washing machine in a combined bathroom

With this placement option, it is important to adjust the washing machine well, eliminate jumping during the spin cycle and reduce vibration. If everything is done correctly, a functional and compact laundry area can be successfully integrated into the interior of a bathroom combined with a toilet.

Design of a small combined bathroom

Arrangement of a combined bathroom of a small area requires a special approach. First you need to decide on the functionality and minimum set of plumbing fixtures. And, of course, for such a room it is important to choose the right color scheme and furniture.

Light gray-blue decoration, compact white sanitary ware, chrome-colored accessories - the interior of a small combined bathroom in the photo looks laconic and light. Despite the fact that the area of this room is less than 3 square meters, it has everything you need.

In the photo: Design of a small combined bathroom in the English Quarter residential complex

In order not to clutter up the space, a transparent corner shower stall with a low tray and a radius door was installed in the room. It does not dominate the interior, and its frame goes well with the accessories and faucet.

A gray and white color scheme with the addition of a discreet turquoise tint, chrome accessories, ultra-fashionable sanitary ware - the combined bathroom in a modern style in the photo makes a very pleasant impression and gives a feeling of freshness.

In the photo: Combined bathroom in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex - washing area

To save usable space in the room, the designers of the Fundament group of companies chose a compact wall-mounted cabinet module with a built-in sink for the washroom area in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex, complementing it with a small mirror and a towel holder.

In the photo: Combined bathroom in the Fort Kutuzov residential complex

There was a place for a shower in a small niche. It was decorated with white tiles and mosaics in the colors of the interior and separated from the rest of the space by a glass door. And so that everything necessary for water procedures was at hand, the designers designed a mini-rack in the shower.

Small combined bathroom in Art Deco style

Powder pink walls, white marble floors, lamps with crystal pendants - absolute harmony reigns in a small combined bathroom with a small bathtub, decorated in the art deco style. The bathtub and wash area are located on the end walls (this technique expands the small space). And the center of the room is reserved for the toilet and is visually highlighted using 3D panels.

In the photo: Small combined bathroom with bathtub

An invisible glass curtain for a bathtub is what a small room needs. It copes with its task perfectly and at the same time does not weigh down the white and pink airy interior at all.

So, let's summarize. Combining a toilet and a bathroom into a combined bathroom should be done at the design project development stage. But by deciding to take this step, you will only win. The main thing is to enlist the help of professionals.

Most houses of standard construction of the last century have small sanitary facilities. To gain additional space, owners remove the partition between the bathroom and toilet. This allows you to additionally accommodate a washing machine and furniture items. How to create a project so that the interior of a bathroom combined with a toilet combines functionality, convenience and impeccable style?

If the room size is no more than 3.5 square meters. m, then there is only enough space for the essentials: a shower stall, a sink, a toilet and a washing machine. In the case where the bathroom area is relatively large (6-9 sq. m), you can act boldly; there is enough space for any idea.

Interior of a bathroom combined with a toilet: 10 photos of successful projects

A small bathroom needs proper organization of the workspace, especially if it needs to be converted into a combined bathroom. This room will perform several functions simultaneously, so the corresponding zones should be located as conveniently as possible. It is recommended to use methods to expand usable space.

It is important to choose ergonomic furniture and non-standard plumbing fixtures. It is advisable to use the corners of the room. For example, install a corner shower stall or a sit-down bathtub in one of them, and install a sink or toilet or some piece of furniture in the other. The range of plumbing products today is large; you can easily choose a miniature sink, corner toilet, stall or bathtub.

The color scheme of the room must be thought out in advance. It is recommended to decorate a small space in light colors (gray-beige, white or blue). It is advisable to make the walls in a small combined bathroom glossy; this will improve lighting and visually expand the room.

In a bathroom with an area of less than 3.5 sq.m. It is advisable to zone the space. Replace the bath with a shower or make a sector for taking water procedures, limited by a glass partition, and install the toilet and sink separately.

It is important that the partition is transparent and the floor surface does not differ in color. This technique will create the illusion of integrity, that is, visually the space will not be “cut” into separate parts.

In a combined bathroom, a lot of space is usually occupied by a bathtub or shower. Instead, you can seal the area of the floor and wall in the shower area and install a low tray. Make the floor with a slope to drain water and lay it out with tiles. These actions will allow you to use the space of the room as profitably as possible and visually expand the space of the bathroom.

A spacious shower cabin is suitable for a married couple who prefers to take water procedures together. This is also a good option for an elderly person who finds it difficult to get out of the bath on his own. A transparent partition would also be appropriate here, allowing you to visually enlarge the room. To enhance the effect, the bathroom can be decorated with a large mirror.

Every bathroom, even the smallest one, needs places to store useful little things. There are many options: open shelves, wall niches, tall cabinets, cabinets with doors and drawers. Things that are afraid of water should be hidden in closed drawers, and shampoos and gels should be placed at hand, beautifully displayed on shelves.

In a combined bathroom you need to use any area of usable space. If it is not possible to install compact corner cabinets, you can use the space under the sink. It is advisable to place a cabinet or drawer there for storing towels and cosmetics. The cabinet doors should be equipped with hooks and pockets, and the inside should be equipped with retractable grilles.

A mirror is necessary in the interior of any bathroom, especially a small one. This decorative item is used both in the singular and in the plural (for example, a set of several elements gradually decreasing in size). A good idea would be mirrored doors on a wall cabinet or sliding door system. Such furniture will visually expand the space of a small bathroom and add light.

7 rules for organizing a room

Women often use the bathroom as a place to relax after a busy day at work. Therefore, they try to give the room a special coziness and organize it so that it is convenient to do daily cosmetic procedures and makeup. It is necessary to think in advance about the style direction, color scheme, arrangement of furniture elements, plumbing fixtures, the presence of drawers, shelves and wall niches. Provide doors with hooks and pockets, hang towel holders on the walls, and install cabinets under the sink. Complete the interior with decorative elements in the chosen style.

Actions to organize the premises:

  • Provide the bathroom with a ventilation system by installing it in the ventilation duct or the bottom of the door. The hood must supply at least 50 cubic meters/hour of air in the case of a combined bathroom. A regular towel dryer can reduce the humidity in a sanitary room. It is also convenient to use it as a hanger without worrying about the presence of a holder or hooks. To ventilate the room automatically, just combine the switches with the lighting in the bathroom. Then, every time you turn on the light, the air in the room will be exchanged.
  • Hide bottles and jars. Items placed around the sink and along the edge of the bathroom give the room a messy appearance. In addition, it makes daily cleaning of exposed surfaces difficult. You have to rearrange the containers again and again. It's best to hide most of your cosmetics and cleaning supplies in a cabinet or drawer under the sink, leaving only what you need outside. For storage, you can use wall niches and the space above the door. It is advisable to purchase a stylish set of a contrasting color with a dispenser and place it in a visible place. It will become the color accent of the room.

  • Carry out zoning. A good idea would be to conditionally divide the combined bathroom into different zones, highlighting the corresponding sections of the wall with tiles of a different color. It is not advisable to use dark finishes in any areas except the toilet. Near the washbasin and bathtub, splashes will fall on it, leaving stains after drying. And on light tiles they will be invisible.
  • Find a place for equipment and household chemicals. To keep buckets, basins, mops and washing powders from being conspicuous, it is advisable to set aside a separate place for them. Built-in washing machine cabinets can be made a little wider to accommodate everything you need. It is also convenient to use the space under the bathroom for this.
  • Place a basket for dirty laundry in the bathroom. This makes sense if washing occurs daily and clothes do not accumulate. The bathroom is damp, and if washed infrequently, the laundry may become moldy. In this case, it is better to store it in another place.
  • Make two lighting options (upper and lower) and install sockets. A sconce placed above the mirror illuminates the face from top to bottom, creating shadows. For applying makeup and shaving, it is better to use built-in lighting or side lights. The number of sockets is planned according to the number of electrical appliances used. The hair dryer and hair straightening iron can be conveniently stored suspended on the doors inside the cabinet.
  • Attach towel hooks. This is very convenient if several people live in the apartment. Each family member will know where his personal towel hangs. The devices will not take up much space in a small bathroom, unlike towel holders.

Sometimes the washing machine does not fit into the bathroom interior. In this case, it can be installed under the same countertop as the sink and covered with cabinet doors. A small combined bathroom will only benefit from such a neighborhood. In addition to the washing machine, you can put laundry and cleaning equipment, cleaning products and detergents in the box.

Current bathroom design trends

Color plays a big role in creating the interior of a room. Light shades will give the room airiness, light and visually expand it. But bright and rich colors are also good. For example, using clean greenish-blue tones, you can create a marine-style bathroom interior. And even black, if you choose small mosaic tiles, correctly combine it with other shades and provide good lighting, will not narrow a small bathroom, but will give it individuality and gloss.

Floor tiles can also be used as a tool when working with limited space. If you need to expand the room, then it is better to create a pattern with horizontal stripes, and if you need to visually stretch it, then with vertical ones. Tiles with geometric shapes will add dynamism to the interior. To prevent the room from seeming small, it is better to use a neutral shade of the walls, and to cover the floor, purchase tiles with a beautiful ornament or rich color.

Art Deco style

The Art Deco style came from France several centuries ago. Over time, it has been slightly transformed, and today it is regaining popularity in a new form. It is used not only in the design of living rooms, but also to create the interior of combined bathrooms.

The interior of a combined bathroom in the Art Deco style involves the use of African or South American patterns, mirrors in exquisite frames, the presence of broken lines and sharp corners, vertical stripes, zigzags and elevations, animal and plant motifs in the design of towels and curtains.

An Art Deco style bathroom is traditionally made in two main colors, for example, cool shades of beige and dark chocolate. It is important to add bright color accents in the form of accessories. A classic of the Art Deco movement - an exquisite symbiosis of white and black colors.

Art Deco style can be identified by the intricate patterns of stone slabs on walls and floors, monochrome shades and zigzag patterns on mirrors. It is important not to overload the interior with heavy and bulky elements, so as not to narrow the already small space of the shared bathroom.

Classic style

Smooth rounded lines, natural materials, exquisite design elements, strict colors and proportions - these are the main features of an interior in a classic style. This creates a special atmosphere of reliability, balance and comfort.

For spacious combined bathrooms, you need to choose one-piece sets in the same style. The best material for the classic style is natural wood of moisture-resistant species, such as oak, teak, larch, merbau, and Brazil walnut. The material is impregnated with water-repellent compounds that prevent wood from rotting, and is covered with varnish, which further increases the life of the furniture in conditions of high humidity.

For a classic bathroom in the Empire or Baroque style, the right solution would be to purchase an oval deep bathtub with legs in the form of “lion paws”. Small round pools located in the recesses of the podiums will also look majestic. For an interior in a neoclassical style, simple and discreet ceramic bowls and sinks made of marble and artificial stone are suitable.

In a small combined bathroom, you can choose a console washbasin resting on elegant metal legs. For sinks, you should prefer stylish models in the form of a tulip or built into the countertop. Faucets should be “with a touch of antiquity.” To do this, they are made of bronze or stainless steel with a gold or silver coating.

Scandinavian style

This direction can be recognized by light shades, porcelain tiles stylized as wood, geometric ornaments and patterns against the backdrop of the overall simplicity and functionality of the interior. The Scandinavian style is characterized by minimalism and rigor, clean shades, the presence of a shower instead of a bath, as well as combinations of interior items in modern and retro styles.

Distinctive features of the Scandinavian direction:

  • Emphasized restraint and minimalism.
  • Light shades in the decoration of floors and walls.
  • Wood-look ceramic tiles.
  • Round sink on a wooden countertop.
  • Bathroom in the form of a bowl.
  • Geometric patterns.

Most often, simple and functional furniture in light colors is used. The space under the sink is left empty or filled with drawers. It is enough to put a regular cabinet with a mirror and a sink, a shower and a toilet in a combined Scandinavian-style bathroom, and place a couple of round rugs on the floor.

Project of a small combined bathroom: how to correctly compose it and include everything you need?

The design of a combined bathroom depends on the size of the room and the possibility of expanding it thanks to a corridor or pantry. A small room should accommodate the most necessary elements, but at the same time not look cramped and uncomfortable.

Lots of shelves for functional use of space Source dekor.expert

Techniques for optimal use of room space:

  • Install a wall-hung toilet model. It will help save space in a small bathroom.
  • Remove all unnecessary things from the room, leaving only the essentials.
  • Make a niche above the toilet for storing household chemicals and cosmetics. This will allow you to do without a closet.
  • Lay out the floor and walls with light glossy tiles and hang mirrors. An abundance of reflective surfaces will enhance the illumination in a small room.

The toilet room can be converted into a combined bathroom using the space in the corridor. Instead of a bathtub, you should purchase a shower stall, this will free up space for a washing machine.

A bathroom with a window looks very attractive. In this case, the height of the window sill must be at least 130 cm in order to be able to install a sink, toilet under the window, or organize an area for storing necessary things. The minimum area of a bathroom is 2.75 square meters. It can accommodate a corner cubicle with a side door, a small sink and a wall-hung toilet. If installing a washing machine, this size must be at least 3.5 square meters.

If the bathroom has an unusual configuration that prevents the use of a conventional shower tray, it is wise to create a wall-mounted shower panel. The water treatment area is limited by a glass partition.

When arranging the interior of a bathroom combined with a toilet, everything you need can be placed on 3.3 square meters of space. In order to additionally accommodate a cubicle, bathtub, bidet, cabinets for towels, a washing machine and shelves for household chemicals, a large space is needed. Typically, such a combined bathroom with bathtub is located close to the main bedroom. It occupies at least 8 square meters of free space.

Bathroom in gray Source tileinfo.ru

If the room is more than 9 meters, the bath can be located in the very center, possibly on a hill. Along the perimeter, at a safe distance from splashes of water, place furniture impregnated with a water-repellent composition and varnished, a waterproof chair, other plumbing fixtures and decorative items.

It is advisable to make a bathroom for older people spacious, with wide passages and non-slippery floors. Instead of a bathtub, you need to install a shower with a comfortable low tray. It is recommended to equip it with a seat and a rubber mat to prevent your feet from slipping.

Ideally, a bathroom with a toilet should have a window that provides natural ventilation. Otherwise, the room must be equipped with forced exhaust to eliminate condensation.

Conclusion

Bathrooms do not need intense daylight, so they can be built on the north wall of the house without planning on having windows. When considering the design of a combined bathroom, you need to decide in advance where the washing machine and other functional interior details will be installed. When drafting a room, you need to make all the necessary measurements and decide on the style direction of the bathroom; it should not be dissonant with the adjacent rooms.

due to the typical layout of modern apartments. In a small space you need to fit a sink, a bathtub or shower, shelves with small items, very often a toilet and a washing machine. In this case, shower cabins come to the rescue.

The pros and cons of such cabins are often discussed, some prefer to take a bath, others do not like the structures themselves, but this is an obvious space saver.

Advantages of shower cabins in the interior

1) The space savings are significant; you can put a washing machine in the free space.
2) Sealed cubicle doors, no need to worry about splashed water on the floor or the fact that the bathroom is very cold. Hot water quickly heats the air in the cabin.

3) Additional interesting details. There are models with a massage effect.
4) Significant water savings: you need much more to fill the bathroom.
5) Good models have special anti-slip mats that prevent you from falling and slipping.

Flaws:

1) You cannot completely immerse yourself in water and relax in the bathtub,
2) Not all apartments will have additional shower options (there won’t be enough pressure)
3) Some cubicles take up as much space as a small corner bathtub.

4) The high tray is not suitable for children and the elderly.
5) The shower stall needs constant cleaning; it needs to be cleared of any deposits that appear.

Installation in a small bathroom

Accommodation is somewhat limited by plumbing, ventilation and power. It is better to choose a small cubicle option, access to which is not blocked by anything, and at the same time you can easily go to the sink or load water into the washing machine.

An important rule: the cabin should only occupy one corner. A semicircular option is also suitable if it does not interfere with the passage in the bathroom. You can place the booth against any of the walls. But the free-standing position of the shower is considered especially beautiful, although it takes up a lot of space.

Location in a combined bathroom

If you have to fit a shower stall into the interior of a small bathroom combined with a toilet, then there is one important rule. There should be at least thirty centimeters between the shower stall, toilet and washbasin.

There should also be at least fifteen centimeters from the door frame.

Nowadays there are many different sizes of shower cabins, but the most convenient is 70x70 centimeters. A booth of this size can fit into almost any room. Before buying a stall, it is advised to draw a square of this size on the floor with chalk and see how comfortable it will be to enter the bathroom.

Shower stalls must be tested before purchasing, so as not to be upset later because of a bad choice.

Come into the booth and try:

  • Raise your hands
  • Turn around
  • Bend over to pick up something.

You should not hit anything, and the movements should be comfortable and familiar.

The material should be chosen as durable as possible so that it can be easily washed. There must be non-slip material on the floor, otherwise you can slip and break something.

Sometimes you can make a shower stall with your own hands; a tray that is quite spacious is laid out with tiles on the floor, and the doors are ordered separately, so you can choose the color of the tiles to match the walls and the main design.

Shelves next to the shower stall are convenient; you don’t have to leave it for forgotten shampoo or shower gel.

It is best to install the booth before major renovations in order to correctly fit it into the required space.

All plumbing fixtures can be chosen in one tone; white looks a little predictable, but fits well into a classic-type interior.

Shower cabins are suitable for interiors and country houses; they are quite easy to install.

Absolutely glass walls do not block the space, but make sure that it can withstand the weight of a person, in case you have to accidentally lean on the walls.

In a large bathroom you can create a whole work of art with the help of such a cabin. You can even install seats and sides here.

Try to expand the space using walls of different colors. Such a contrasting stripe, which is clearly visible through the shower stall, visually lengthens the room.

The shower cabin looks great in a modern interior; it is a stylish element with many technical accessories.

A shower without walls takes up little space, but this way you may face the problem of water splashing and the room being quite cold.

The tiles inside may differ slightly from the main one, but it is better if they match in style.

If there is very little space, then you can neglect the thirty centimeter rule. Then the cubicle fits well between the toilet and the bathroom.
