The name Penoplex hides ordinary extruded polystyrene foam, which, as you know, has its own area of application. But the advertising pressure of the brand is so great that many already take it for granted to use Penoplex everywhere. And therein lies a serious mistake - firstly, significant money is spent without any benefit, and secondly, damage is caused to the structures of the house. But first things first…

The common joke about the misuse of “Snickers and Tampax”, due to a lack of understanding of what is hidden under these names, accurately describes the situation with Penoplex. Blindly following advertising brochures leads to ambiguous situations.

Is it profitable to use

Standards recommend that private owners create economically feasible insulation so that it pays off at current energy prices over a certain period of time - up to 12 years. Therefore, in the design documentation for private houses and apartments, heat insulators are laid out that are quite reliable (durable), but at a reasonable price - insulation should be beneficial for the owner.

You won’t find too expensive foam glass in projects. But cheap high-density polystyrene foam (foam) is widely used.
In house designs, extruded polystyrene foam is used strictly for its intended purpose.

No one will use extruded polystyrene foam where polystyrene foam, which is much cheaper, can be used. Otherwise, the meaning of insulation is lost - it simply will not pay for itself in normal terms, and violation of the standard threatens with deprivation of the design license, for example.

What makes extruded polystyrene foam special?

Penoplex production is carried out using the extrusion method, which was first used in the USA half a century ago. Polystyrene foams through a chemical reaction under high pressure and high temperature. As a result, very small cells are formed in the material - up to 0.2 millimeters, with almost identical dimensions. And also completely closed, unlike polystyrene foam.

Extruded polystyrene acquires the following distinctive properties:

  • Increased compressive strength - from 0.2 MPa to 0.6 MPa, depending on the density, which can range from 25 kg/m3. up to 50 kg/m3, the densest ones can be laid under the pavement of the car path.
  • Almost zero water absorption - can be used in the ground without protection.
  • Almost complete absence of permeability to water vapor - on a wall made of any ordinary building material, a layer of extruded polystyrene foam with a thickness of 2 cm will act as a vapor barrier.

Where and when is it correct to apply this thermal insulation material?

Sheet sizes, types

Penoplex is produced under the names “Wall”, “Foundation”, “Roof”, “Road”, “Universal”... From name to name the density varies mainly from 25 kg/m3. for “Wall” up to 40 kg/m3. for “Road” and, accordingly, the strength of the material.

The standard density of conventional extruded polystyrene foam for wide applications is 35 kg/m3. But in the case of Penoplex, for example, the “Universal” type, somewhat contradictory data are given - density from 28 to 34 kg/m3.

The desire to save money in production is obvious - a weaker, lighter material with slightly increased water absorption is proposed. as if “Economy-Light extruded polystyrene foam”.

But it is likely that other manufacturers’ products may be “lightweight” or may not even meet the stated technical characteristics...

The dimensions of the Penoplex insulation sheet are usually 600x1200 mm. The thickness varies, maybe 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100 (mm).

Application errors

A typical mistake in using Penoplex is more likely to do with belief in some “miraculous” properties of the material, or with the usual reluctance to delve into questions.

Nomadic teams of insulation workers impose their opinions on thermal insulation, seeking their own benefit. Penoplex is often imposed as a more expensive material for insulating walls, floors, and roofs, instead of foam plastic or mineral wool that is economically or technically feasible.

And so that the owners do not find it too expensive, they simply use sheets 20 mm or 30 mm thick to insulate the walls.

The heat saving effect from such a thin layer is minimal, or even practically unnoticeable. And the significant costs for gluing and plastering using the Wet Facade technology are wasted money.

Damage

Thus, heat insulator extruded polystyrene foam glued to a large area of walls causes significant damage to the owners.

In addition, only very dense concrete can withstand vapor barrier almost painlessly. Brick and porous materials will easily acquire high humidity, the same as indoors, which is not very useful. And in cases of poor-quality gluing, along the edges of the area, or some kind of steam leaks through the outer shell, it is quite possible that the wall will be soaked with condensation formed at the border of the wall and the insulation.

Also, in rafter systems, in wooden floors, in contact with wood, experts generally recommend the use of vapor-permeable insulation, ventilated from the outside, ensuring the durability of the structure.

In addition, polystyrene foam indoors is unsuitable for fire requirements and is extremely dangerous when melted, without being fenced off from the living space by a fireproof partition...

How to use Penoplex for insulation

Penoplex, like any other extruded polystyrene foam, in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, is well suited for insulating the soil around the house when constructing shallow foundations. Placed under the blind area, it will reliably protect the soil from precipitation and frost.

It is important to glue the seams (tongue and groove) between the insulation boards.

Where Penoplex should not be used

But extruded polystyrene foam cannot be used with materials that destroy it.

The following is a list of substances that are allowed for contact.

If you want to stick it on the wall...

If, for some reason, a decision is made to insulate the walls with penoplex (possibly due to the manufacturer’s statements about the great durability of the material...), then the wet facade technology must be done at least correctly.

  • The torn insulation layer from below and above must be protected by appropriate strips.
  • A flat, durable wall surface is provided on which the sticker will be applied.
  • The sheets are glued with the appropriate glue, with the largest possible area of close contact with the wall on the glue... And also much more....

For more details on how to insulate the facade of a house and other walls using wet facade technology yourself, you can read....

Extruded polystyrene foam (EPS) is available in slab form. It is often called penoplex. But you should know that penoplex is a brand (the same as “Giprok” - drywall or “Macroflex” - polyurethane foam). The structure of the insulation under consideration is similar to the structure of conventional polystyrene foam. Being a subspecies, penoplex is distinguished by its higher density and strength, and has a fine-celled, homogeneous structure consisting of almost completely closed cells. This material is the best type of polystyrene plastic. EPS (penoplex) is made by extrusion, as a result of which polystyrene beads melt, forming a homogeneous mass, which is poured into a mold, where it cools. In this article we will take a detailed look at penoplex insulation, its technical characteristics, advantages, applications and installation features.

Technical characteristics of expanded polystyrene (EPS)

Penoplex is produced by exposing polystyrene granules to high temperature and pressure. By adding a mixture of carbon dioxide and light freon at the next stage, a porous mass is obtained, which is then squeezed out of the extrusion plant. After manufacturing the slabs in the cells, the residual freon is relatively quickly replaced by ambient air.

Penoplex is distinguished among materials for thermal insulation by the following characteristics:

  • Low thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of penoplex in comparison with other thermal insulation materials is significantly lower and amounts to 0.03 W/m K.
  • High strength for compression and bending. Extrusion allows you to achieve uniformity of the material structure. Evenly distributed cells improve the strength characteristics of the material, which does not change its dimensions even under heavy loads.
  • Low water absorption(no more than 0.2 - 0.4% by volume in 24 hours). During the tests, XPS boards were left in water for a month. In this case, the liquid was absorbed in small quantities only for the first 10 days, after which the material stopped taking up moisture. At the end of the period, the amount of water in the slabs did not exceed 0.6 percent of their total volume.
  • Low vapor permeability(vapor permeability coefficient 0.007-0.008 mg/m·h·Pa). A layer of slabs made of this material, only 2 centimeters thick, has the same vapor permeability as a layer of roofing felt.
  • Durability(service life - more than 50 years). Repeated cycles of freezing and thawing the slabs showed that all the characteristics of the material remained unchanged after testing.
  • Flame resistant. In the manufacture of this material, freons are used, which are safe and non-flammable. They are not poisonous and do not destroy the ozone layer.
  • Environmental safety. Most chemicals used in construction are not able to react with penoplex. Exception: toluene, xylene, benzene and similar hydrocarbons; formalin and formaldehyde; ethers, both simple and complex; gasoline, kerosene; oil-based paints and other organic solvents.
  • Wide operating temperature range(-50ºС to +75ºС). However, if exposed to excessive heat, the material may melt and ignite.

For clarity, let us highlight all the physical and mechanical properties in the form of a table:

Expanded polystyrene is usually sold in packages of 0.25 - 0.3 m³. Depending on the thickness of the sheet, the surface area that can be covered using one package will also vary.

Application and types of penoplex

Considering that penoplex has a number of advantages, its scope of application is quite extensive. EPS serves as an excellent insulation material both indoors and outdoors. It is perfect for apartments, houses, cottages and other buildings. Penoplex can be used to insulate roofs, attics, and balconies, in any climatic region without the use of an additional moisture-proof layer. Since the material practically does not absorb water, it is quite possible to use it in an environment with high humidity. At the same time, its thermal conductivity remains almost unchanged. EPS sheets of various thicknesses are available for sale, and depending on the specific requirements, you can always choose the best option.

In addition to a variety of sizes, extruded polystyrene foam is available in several types depending on density and application. Let's look at each type:

Installation technology of polystyrene insulation boards

Insulation of external, internal walls and other structures using extruded polystyrene is carried out in several stages. Let's look at each of them:

  • Preparatory stage consist of preparing the walls for insulation, cleaning them from dirt, dust, old finishing materials, and paint coatings. In case of large unevenness, it is recommended to level the surface using a plaster mixture (and other methods depending on the design) and treat it with an antifungal compound.
  • Fixation using special adhesive facade compounds. The adhesive is applied directly to the insulating board using a comb.
  • Mechanical fastening made using dowels.
  • Installation of facade mesh. For better adhesion of the glue to the insulation, you can create roughness on the surface of the slabs. The first plaster layer of facade glue is used to fix the reinforcing polymer mesh. Next, a second layer of plaster is applied, after which has dried, the walls are covered with decorative plaster (optional) and painted.
  • Instead of plaster It is possible to decorate the walls with siding, wood, as well as the use of ventilated facades.

EPS installation technology

Thermal insulation of roofs produced either at the construction stage or during the reconstruction process, for example, when converting a cold attic into a living space. In this case, the insulation is laid on the base in several layers (the joints of the top layer should not coincide with the joints of the bottom). Next, a vapor-permeable membrane is spread over the penoplex. The resulting cake is secured with longitudinal slats with a thickness of at least 40 mm to ensure ventilation between the insulation and the roofing material.

Video on the topic

Having examined penoplex insulation, it can be noted that compared to analogues, it has a higher cost. But, on the other hand, ease of use, greater strength and excellent properties cover this drawback. Therefore, when choosing thermal insulation material for your home, additionally read consumer reviews and consider all possible alternatives.

Among the extensive line of heat-insulating materials, penoplex occupies one of the first places. Most people who like to do something with their own hands are attracted by the low price of the slabs of this insulation and the opportunity to install them themselves, without the help of workers.

This allows you to significantly save on insulation of private and country houses. Due to the low thermal conductivity of penoplex, the finished structures are quite warm.

What is extruded polystyrene foam

The complex technical name of the insulation alarms many who prefer to use only environmentally friendly, low-flammable materials in insulating their homes. Modern technologies make it possible not to use freon as a foaming agent. Therefore, only CO2 or freons are now used for polystyrene foam granules. So we can well call it environmentally friendly.

The material has a number of characteristics that make it very attractive for private and low-rise construction, as well as for use on an industrial scale.

  • The insulation does not have a biological component, so it does not rot or decompose. Such properties make it durable (service life ≥ 50 years).
  • Eco-friendly insulation. Moreover, we can even talk about the environmental friendliness of its production.
  • It has proven itself well in underfloor heating systems. The entire “warm floor” structure is mounted on top of penoplex 35. A low thermal conductivity coefficient will effectively save heat, due to which the cost of heating a house or apartment is significantly reduced.
  • Wide range of applications. The insulation can be used both in a country house and at an airfield.

Technical characteristics of penoplex are presented in the table below.

Where can penoplex be used?

Extruded polystyrene foam has found its application in various fields, both in residential construction and renovation, and in industrial.

Its technical characteristics have a wide range in such indicators as slab thickness, flammability, strength, which allows it to insulate runways at airfields (slabs 100 mm thick), as well as house walls, foundations, etc.

Penoplex markings

Penoplex marking

There are several markings of penoplex, such as M35, M45 and others. It is worth noting that this is an old marking. They are currently out of production.

  • Modern markings are 31C, 35, 45. Penoplex 31C has weak technical characteristics for compression, so it is used mainly for insulating pipes or containers.
  • Penoplex 35 is universal, quite durable, so it can be used to insulate both pipes and walls of buildings, foundations, and be used in floor screeds. The characteristics of this brand have excellent thermal insulation qualities.
  • Penoplex 45 can be successfully used for insulating runways at airfields, for insulating deep foundations, and floors in industrial premises. It is also indispensable in the construction of road surfaces. Its higher density than 35 perfectly withstands loads, and the almost complete absence of water absorption prevents the canvas from swelling after heavy rainfalls and subsequent frosts. For 45 there are no prohibitions for use on a production scale.

What is good about penoplex?

The properties of penoplex are varied, which is very convenient for do-it-yourself work, in the country or in a private house.

  1. Ease of installation and low weight make it easy to install this insulation without the help of specialists.
  2. Such characteristics of penoplex as low thermal conductivity, density and others allow it to be used not only for external insulation, but also for thermal insulation of floors at the construction stage. Slabs with a density of 45, with a thickness of 50 mm or more, will easily withstand a concrete screed, serving in the future excellent service. You will always have a relatively warm floor.
  3. Penoplex slabs with a thickness of 20 mm, 30 mm, 50 mm and higher will make the walls, floor and roof warmer. Now you don’t have to worry about buying warm slippers or a sweater. Penoplex will reliably protect you from bad weather.
  4. This quality of penoplex, such as vapor permeability, confuses many. After all, we are accustomed to thinking and hearing from sellers in construction stores that walls (floors, roofs) must breathe. But think about it. Through these micropores, our house (wooden or brick) not only breathes, but also loses heat. Using penoplex insulation, simply organize high-quality ventilation in your room by installing, for example, a micro-ventilation system and installing a hood. This way you will create a healthy microclimate in your home.

A little about the flammability of penoplex

Most home-grown builders believe that penoplex is no different from polystyrene foam, except perhaps in its structure. Its properties such as flammability and water absorption are equal to the properties of foam plastic. This is not true.
Nowadays both non-flammable polystyrene foam and fully flammable polystyrene foam are produced. Therefore, whether to trust rumors that penoplex burns strongly or not is your decision. However, we note that penoplex is deprived of the possibility of spontaneous combustion. In the presence of a source of constant fire, it only melts, releasing carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) gases. If the fire is immediately extinguished, even smoldering will not be observed. Therefore, when choosing between modern foam plastic and penoplex, give preference to the second material.

Important. Ordinary polystyrene foam, which you can easily find in a box with some household appliances, burns well. But it’s stupid to think that there is no difference between it and construction foam. None of the types of penoplex burns, but only melts in the presence of an open flame source.

Russian brands of penoplex

Russian craftsmen have not bypassed the production of such popular insulation as penoplex. On our market there are such brands as “Technoplex” from the TechnoNIKOL corporation and “Polyspen”. Let's look at each of them in detail.

Technoplex is designed specifically for private construction, as well as for installing underfloor heating systems. Nanotechnology is used in production - graphite particles, which enhance the effect of low thermal conductivity and further increase the strength of the material plates. The slabs of this insulation are light silver and meet all standards for the production of penoplex.

Technoplex insulation is produced in slabs with various parameters. Even custom sizes are possible if the customer requests it. The thickness of the slabs is different - 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100 mm. All slabs, except 20, have a special edge, which during installation eliminates the appearance of cold bridges. Technoplex slabs can be stored both indoors and outdoors, provided that the original packaging is intact.
After installation, the surface of the Technoplex insulation must be insulated from atmospheric influences.

Polispen LLC successfully produces extruded polystyrene foam under the brand of the same name. There are three types of foam boards in production, differing from each other in characteristics - compression density, thermal conductivity and flammability. These are the brands:

  • "Polyspen Standard"

The numbers 35 and 45 mean the density of the material, 35 kg/m3 and 45 kg/m3, respectively. During production, special substances are used that reduce flammability - fire retardants.

“Polyspen Standard” slabs are used where their combustible component is least important - for internal floor insulation, in foundations. Plates with a density of 35 are used for insulation of fences and load-bearing structures of buildings. “Polyspen” slabs with a density of 45 are used in the construction of road surfaces, as well as structures bearing excess load.

So, we have excellent thermal insulation material, made in the form of slabs of various thicknesses - 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80 and 100 mm (depending on the manufacturer, the thickness range may vary, the standard range is 20/30/40/50/ 100), impregnated to varying degrees with fire retardants (the price of non-combustible material is more expensive), of varying density and compressive strength, used both in private housing construction and in industry. Russian brands of penoplex, such as Tenoplex and Polyspen, have proven themselves well in the Russian market.

If previously the range of thermal insulation materials was not rich enough, today buyers are faced with a wide selection of insulation materials with different properties and performance characteristics. This means that a homeowner with any budget can choose the right option. Today, penoplex is rightfully recognized as one of the most popular materials, which is in great demand and occupies a leading position in the market of thermal insulation coatings. Today we will look in detail at what it is, find out where it is used and how this popular insulation is installed.

What it is?

Surely every person has heard about such a building material as penoplex at least once in his life. However, not every consumer knows what lies under this name.

Penoplex is a well-known trade name for high-quality extruded polystyrene. Today this material is the leader in the insulation market. They often cover walls, ceiling structures, roofing bases and even floors.

Features and production

Penoplex is high-quality foamed polystyrene. This type of material is produced by extrusion.

A similar production process was developed more than half a century ago in American laboratories. Thus, a completely new material appeared, the structure of which consisted of closed microscopic cells. From the very beginning, their dimensions did not exceed 0.2 mm. In a single structure, these components created a neat and uniform surface without potholes or differences.

The granules of this polymer contain a special additive that has a foaming effect. This component is combined with granules under pressure or under heating conditions to a certain temperature. The result is a mass that is then passed through an extruder.

Foaming components (as a rule, they are represented by carbon dioxide or a mixture of light freons) are non-toxic and absolutely safe from an environmental point of view. In addition, these components are not flammable.

When the manufacturing process is completed, all auxiliary components are replaced with air from the environment.

The result is a high-tech thermal insulation material with excellent performance characteristics. With its use, your home becomes much warmer and more comfortable - a comfortable microclimate is created that you don’t want to leave.

The main distinguishing features of penoplex are:

  • low level of thermal conductivity;
  • good strength characteristics;
  • minimum level of moisture absorption.

As a rule, this insulation is packaged in film, which protects it from aggressive sunlight. Thanks to such packaging, such material can be easily stored outdoors. However, it is worth considering that even if there is plastic packaging, the product must be additionally protected from ultraviolet radiation.

Under the influence of UV rays, this insulation may lose the integrity of the top layer.

Advantages and disadvantages

Penoplex is a popular material that is in great demand. Its popularity is due to many positive qualities:

  • Penoplex is a hydrophobic material.
  • It is light in weight, so it is quite easy to work with it. Moreover, you will not spend a lot of money on transporting this material.
  • Penoplex has excellent strength characteristics. It is not so easy to damage this material - it is not susceptible to mechanical defects.
  • The composition of this thermal insulation coating is anti-corrosion, so it can be safely laid on bases consisting of a wide variety of materials.
  • The installation of penoplex can be started in almost any conditions. You don't have to wait for the right moment to start installing the slabs.

  • This insulation does not attract the attention of insects and rodents, which are usually quite difficult to get rid of.
  • Penoplex is an environmentally friendly and safe material - it does not have a negative effect on human health.
  • Penoplex is easy to install. With a minimum set of knowledge, you can install this insulation yourself.
  • Many buyers prefer this insulation because it has an affordable price.
  • Penoplex has minimal water absorption.
  • Penoplex does not cause allergic reactions.

  • This material is quite strong in compression.
  • This insulation is universal - modern manufacturers produce high-quality coatings intended not only for walls, but also for floors and roofing “pies”.
  • Penoplex is not subject to rotting, which once again confirms its durability and resistance to wear.
  • This material has a long service life.
  • Such extruded polystyrene can be used both in the construction of new and in the restoration of old buildings.

Penoplex is not an ideal heat-insulating material. It has its own weaknesses, which you should also be aware of if you decide to purchase such products for your home. Among them:

  • This material is flammable. It burns and actively supports combustion.
  • Penoplex does not withstand contact with solvents. Under their influence, polystyrene is destroyed and deformed.
  • Not all manufacturers offer penoplex at affordable prices. Many stores sell expensive products.

  • Another disadvantage of penoplex is its low vapor permeability (in certain situations). For example, if this material is installed incorrectly or exposed to unfavorable conditions, condensation may accumulate in it (from the outside). This is why this material becomes susceptible to the formation of fungus and mold. To avoid such problems, the room must be provided with good ventilation, otherwise normal air exchange will be hopelessly disrupted.
  • This material for high-quality thermal insulation cannot boast of good adhesion. It has an absolutely smooth surface, so gluing it to walls and ceilings is often not very convenient.

  • It is recommended to protect this thermal insulation material from direct sunlight. Under their influence, penoplex may undergo deformation or damage to the top layer.
  • To make extruded polystyrene more resistant to fire, special substances - fire retardants - are added to it during the production process. Materials with such additives become self-extinguishing, but when burning or smoldering, this insulation will emit black clouds of smoke containing toxic compounds.

Of course, penoplex has many more positive qualities than negative ones.

Many problems associated with this material can be avoided if it is installed correctly.

Specifications

The main characteristics of penoplex include:

  • low level of vapor permeability, the coefficient of which is 0.03 W/mºK;
  • high strength characteristics (both compression and bending);
  • low level of moisture absorption - no more than 0.2-0.4% by volume per day;
  • low degree of vapor permeability - the coefficient of this parameter ranges from 0.007 to 0.008 mg/mh·Pa);
  • service life exceeds 50 years;
  • combustion resistance;
  • environmental Safety;
  • wide temperature range of application, which ranges from -50 to +75 degrees.

Thanks to its technical characteristics, penoplex has become a popular and sought-after material. It is difficult to damage or break. However, unfortunately, it is flammable.

Different types of penoplex belong to different flammability classes:

  • materials for roof insulation - class G3;
  • for wall insulation – G3;
  • for foundations - G4;
  • universal insulation - G4;
  • road materials - G4.

In addition, all of the listed thermal insulation materials have different compression densities, for example:

  • for roofing – 0.25 MPa;
  • for walls – 0.2 MPa;
  • for the foundation - 0.25 MPa;
  • universal – 0.2 MPa;
  • road – 0.50 MPa.

Extruded polystyrene foam boasts good resistance to various chemicals and materials. These include:

  • antiseptics designed to protect natural wood;
  • bitumen-based mixtures;
  • cement;
  • lime.

Penoplex can be destroyed by foreign materials that contain a component such as a solvent. Such products soften polystyrene, which then leads to its significant shrinkage.

When working with penoplex, you should avoid the following mixtures:

  • paint thinners;
  • coal tar (and any of its derivatives);
  • solvents such as acetone and ethyl acetate.

Brands and sizes

Currently, the most popular and High quality products with the following markings are common:

  • 45 C;

Let's look at each marking in detail:

  • Penoplex 31. This is a type of material that does not have the highest strength characteristics. Such coatings are not recommended for use in areas where there is heavy load. As a rule, such penoplex is used to insulate containers and pipelines.
  • 31 C. Materials that have this marking also cannot boast of sufficient strength. They are most often used to insulate walls inside a home. This penoplex differs from class 3 raw materials in its higher level of flammability.
  • 35. Thermal insulating material with this marking has good strength characteristics. In addition, it is characterized by excellent insulating qualities. Using such coatings, foundations, floors and pipes running underground are insulated.

  • 45. There is also penoplex marked 45. This type of material is used for insulating runways and constructing road surfaces. Moreover, such insulation materials are ideal for finishing floors in production areas and other similar premises.
  • 45 C. The material with this marking has almost the same parameters as Penoplex 45. It is quite reliable and durable. However, such insulation is more often used for finishing walls in industrial areas.
  • 75. This marking belongs to special materials that have a density of 40-53 kg/m3. Such raw materials are most often used in the construction of runways located at airfields.

Penoplex, belonging to the “standard” class with a density of 25-31 kg/m3, has the following technical characteristics:

  • width – 600;
  • length – 1200;

Comfort type material (28-33 kg/m3) has the following dimensional parameters:

  • width – 600;
  • length – 1200;
  • thickness – 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100.

Foundation material with a density of 29-33 kg/m3 has similar dimensions. As for the insulation “45” (35-47 kg/m3), its data is as follows:

  • width – 600;
  • length – 2400;
  • thickness – 40, 50, 60, 80, 100.

These parameters are indicative. First of all, the sizes of extruded polystyrene depend on the manufacturer who released them to the market.

Nowadays you can find non-standard canvases in stores.

Types and properties

Penoplex is a popular and in demand material. It is represented by many modifications, each of which has its own markings and designations. Currently, there are several varieties of this thermal insulation coating.

"Wall"

The density of such extruded polystyrene can range from 25 to 32 kg/m3. This heat-insulating material is perfect for installation on external and internal floors. In addition, penoplex “wall” can be used in the design of partitions and plinths. Thanks to this material, the sound insulation characteristics of the room are increased.

"Foundation"

No less popular today is a material such as penoplex “foundation”. Its density varies from 29 to 33 kg/m3. You can safely use this coating if you want to insulate the foundation and upper part of the basement. This material is highly dense and water resistant. In addition, this insulation is often used for thermal insulation of septic tanks that have a significant depression.

"Roof"

Another common and popular material is foam roofing. Similar products are produced directly for insulating rafter or flat roof types. Also, material from the “roofing” category can be used to insulate attic structures. The density of this brand, as a rule, ranges from 28 to 33 kg/m3. This material is lightweight and does not place a large load on the roof sheathing.

"Comfort"

Comfort products are in great demand today. Such materials have a density of 25-35 kg/m3. They are used to insulate walls in apartments. For example, this could be the area of a balcony or loggia. It is acceptable to use such a coating in baths and saunas.

"Geo"

Penoplex "geo" is an alternative to materials belonging to the "foundation" class. Such coatings are more often used in industrial and civil construction work. It is worth noting that slabs of this insulation are often used for cladding floors, foundations and other similar

"The basis"

Penoplex from this category has an optimal density that allows it to be used in a wide variety of construction work. Such insulation is laid on the floor, walls and roof bases. Penoplex “base” is popular due to its durability and versatility of use - it is often used in both civil and industrial construction.

"Pitched roof"

Penoplex “pitched roofing” was developed specifically for roof insulation. This coating is ideal for installation on the foundations of low-rise buildings. As a rule, this thermal insulation material has a thickness of 10 and 15 cm.

"Facade"

The name of this type of penoplex speaks for itself. It is used for insulation of plinths, facades, external parts of ceilings and partitions. This material has a special milled surface on which plaster can be applied much easier and more reliably. The thickness of the penoplex “facade” is 20-100 mm.

Scope of application

Penoplex is recognized as one of the most popular and high-tech materials, so it is used in many cases:

  • This type of thermal insulation material is used to insulate walls, roofing bases and floors.
  • Many buyers choose penoplex for foundation insulation.
  • There are also materials that are used in road construction and the construction of runways.
  • Some types of insulation are installed in balconies, loggias, baths and saunas.

The main thing is to choose the material of the appropriate class and type.

What can be replaced?

There are times when penoplex is not available in stores for some reason. Slightly less often, consumers themselves refuse to purchase this material due to high cost or flammability. Many people wonder what can replace this insulation in such situations.

A good alternative to penoplex is a domestic material called “Technoplex”. This insulation is in great demand today and is a strong competitor to the branded products of the Penoplex brand. It is good because it fits seamlessly on bases made of a variety of materials. In addition, it can be safely laid on the floor, since it can be combined with a “warm floor” system.

Currently, Technoplex is produced using special nanotechnology. In this case, graphite is used, which significantly reduces the level of thermal conductivity of the insulation, but at the same time increases the rigidity and wear resistance of the plates.

This material has a silver-gray color, which distinguishes it from penoplex. However, Technoplex has the same positive qualities as extruded polystyrene. That is why these materials are interchangeable.

"Technoplex" is manufactured in a tile format. Such thermal insulation materials can have the following thickness:

  • 100 mm;
  • 50 mm;
  • 40 mm;
  • 30 mm;
  • 20 mm.

At the same time, slabs of such insulation are produced with grooves and tenons, with the help of which they can be easily and quickly assembled, forming a neat, seamless coating. Due to the absence of gaps on such an insulating layer, “cold bridges” do not appear on the bases.

After installation is completed, material such as Technoplex must be covered with decorative finishing materials.

This requirement is explained by the fact that aggressive ultraviolet rays can negatively affect the quality and integrity of the insulation, so it must be “hidden” behind other coatings.

Another popular analogue of penoplex is “Polyspen”. This insulation is also produced in Russia. It is currently available in three variations, having various technical characteristics, which include thermal conductivity, strength, as well as the level of flammability and compression:

  • "Polyspen 45";
  • "Polyspen 35";
  • "Polyspen universal."

This analogue of penoplex contains a fire retardant. Thanks to this component, “Polyspen” is less flammable. Such materials are produced in the form of slabs with a thickness of 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 200 mm. Thanks to this choice, it will be possible to select insulation for a specific area.

Penoplex can also be replaced with the following thermal insulation materials:

  • Styrex. This material is quite strong and durable. Its thermal conductivity level is slightly lower than that of penoplex.
  • "Extrol". This is another polystyrene foam insulation that goes through extrusion during the manufacturing process. It has much in common with penoplex, but is produced in the form of cylindrical elements, convenient for insulating water supply systems.
  • Styrofoam. Foam plastic (without extrusion) is often used instead of penoplex. It is much cheaper than extruded polystyrene, but is less strong and durable.

If the insulation will be constantly exposed to high temperatures, then it is better to give preference to mineral wool. This type of thermal insulation material is one of the most popular and in demand today.

By her own mineral wool- This is a fibrous insulation of inorganic origin. This insulation has many positive qualities, for example:

  • fairly high thermal insulation performance;
  • waterproof;
  • resistance to aggressive chemicals;
  • good air exchange;
  • excellent sound insulation characteristics;
  • fire resistance;
  • long service life (25-50 years);
  • environmental friendliness.

Installation technology

You can lay penoplex on a particular base with your own hands. To do this, you do not need to have a wealth of experience and cunning knowledge. The main thing is to adhere to simple technology and use high-quality materials.

It was previously mentioned that installation of extruded polystyrene foam can be done both inside and outside the home.

Let us consider step by step how to install this material in all of the above cases.

Inside the building

Penoplex can be installed in the interior of the house. All work is done as follows:

  • First you need to carefully prepare the base for laying insulation. In this case, you need to remove the previous materials from the walls (any wallpaper, paint and varnish coatings, etc.), without missing a single area.
  • Next, the bases need to be protected from fungus and mold. If they have already appeared, then you should get rid of them. For this, it is recommended to use special antiseptic compounds. After this, it is worth carrying out sanitary treatment. To do this, you can use almost any product that has an antibacterial effect.
  • Pay attention to the evenness of the bases. So, the walls should not have significant differences and potholes. You need to get rid of any defects - level the bases, and then prime them with a high-quality composition.

  • Next, you can proceed to assembling the base profile. Such structures are most often used to facilitate the installation of insulation. In addition, profile parts will protect the thermal insulation coating from adverse external factors.
  • The base profile should be attached to the base using dowel nails. In order for the insulation to fit more tightly to the ceilings, they can be supplemented with spacer washers.
  • Be sure to ensure that the width of the profile matches the thickness of the penoplex.
  • Using joining plates, the final components of the structure must be joined to each other. Don't forget to leave a small gap between them (about 2 cm).
  • Now you can attach the polystyrene foam boards. Apply a layer of glue to the penoplex (around the perimeter of the slab and in its center).

  • Many craftsmen recommend not saving at this stage and thoroughly coating the entire polystyrene foam board with an adhesive solution. After this, the insulation must be pressed against the profile. If protruding particles of glue appear on the materials, they must be removed immediately.
  • If there are small gaps between the materials, you can get rid of them by filling them with inserts from pieces of expanded polystyrene. Not everyone uses polyurethane foam in this situation, since such sealing can cause cracks to appear.
  • After this, it remains to make the final fastening of the thermal material to the base. When the glue has completely dried (usually this takes about 3 days), work can continue. You need to secure the insulation with mushroom dowels. Hardware must be placed in the middle of the slabs, as well as along their perimeter. However, here it is necessary to calculate that in the end all the sheets of penoplex will be connected.

It is worth keeping in mind that insulating a home from the inside is not always appropriate or practical.

The main disadvantage of such work is the reduction in living and free space due to the thickness of the materials, as well as the profile design.

Outside

According to experts, external insulation of a house is more practical and convenient. At the same time, free space is not hidden, and dirt and dust remaining during work do not accumulate inside the premises.

For external insulation, penoplex with a thickness of 80-100 mm is most often used. The process of installing thermal insulation material in this case is in many ways similar to internal insulation.

First, the façade of the house needs to be leveled. If there are cracks or potholes on it, then you must get rid of them - repair them and then prime them.

Penoplex is glued to the facade base in the same way as for internal insulation of a home. Fastening to dowels occurs in a similar way.

If you want to plaster the facade in the future, then as a preparatory work you need to glue a reinforced mesh. If you want to decorate the house with siding or PVC panels, then you need to take care of the vertical guides in advance in order to securely fasten them. In this case, an additional layer of vapor barrier material is not required.

On the roof

Penoplex is ideal for strengthening the roof. Not only beginners, but also experienced craftsmen turn to this insulation.

  • Insulation boards can only be laid after the roof frame structures have been prepared(lathing). On the lower section of the rafters near the insulated area, you need to nail a block. Its thickness should be the same as the thickness of the insulation. This part will play the role of a starting rail. This element must be placed at an equal distance from the edge (along all rafter supports).
  • Starting from the starting rail, you need to lay extruded polystyrene slabs. This should be done in a checkerboard pattern. The thickness of the laid layer, first of all, depends on the geographical location of the facility under construction. However, experts always recommend laying insulation not in 1, but in 2-3 layers. At the same time, it is very important to properly seal all joints.

  • In this case, the insulation can be secured using self-tapping screws with mushroom caps to make the structure more reliable. The seams should be additionally taped. After this, bars are packed over the insulation. They should be arranged from top to bottom. This way you will get a high-quality ventilated gap. It is needed for free air circulation.
  • After this, you should install a sheathing intended directly for installing the roofing material. For this purpose, a structure assembled from bars secured in accordance with a certain step is quite suitable.
  • You can also use solid coatings made from OSB. Such bases are ideal for installing soft types of roofing. Thermal insulating material should be attached tightly to the ridge.

The gap should only be left when installing the roof itself.

Currently, there are many different thermal insulation materials on sale. One of them is Penoplex insulation, the technical characteristics of which fully meet the highest requirements for thermal insulation of almost any building element.

Modern technologies using non-toxic components make it possible to produce lightweight and easy-to-install insulation materials. “Penoplex” is produced by extrusion using various chemical additives, so the material cannot be unconditionally called absolutely environmentally friendly.

The technical and operational characteristics of Penoplex clearly show that it is one of the most effective heat-insulating materials today. and the parameters of this insulation should be examined more closely.

What's happened "Penoplex"?

“Penoplex” is, in fact, extruded polystyrene foam, which is an improved form of the long-known polystyrene foam.

The first installation for the production of this material appeared more than half a century ago in the USA. The production process is as follows: polystyrene granules are sent to a special chamber, where, during the production of the working composition, they are melted and foamed using blowing agents under the influence of high temperatures. The result is a fluffy, thick foam, similar to whipped cream, which is squeezed out of the extruder nozzles in an even layer of a set thickness, and then transferred to a conveyor belt and cut into individual panels. The entire process takes place behind closed doors, and you can only see the finished product.

Foaming of polystyrene occurs by adding porophors to it - chemical compounds, when heated, there is an active release of gaseous products - carbon dioxide, nitrogen and others, which foam the polystyrene mass. The composition of blowing agents for the production of extruded polystyrene foam may include the following substances:

The composition is prepared and molded at a temperature of 130–140 °C at a speed of up to 60 kg/h. This method produces not only “Penoplex”, but also “Technoplex”, “Extrol” and other domestic and imported insulation materials.

As additives to such materials they are used light-stabilizing substances, antioxidants, fire retardants, modifiers, antistatic agents and other components.

  1. Antioxidants are added during the extrusion process - they prevent thermal oxidation during processing and rapid destruction during storage and operation of the insulation.
  2. Fire retardants reduce the flammability of the material or make it completely non-flammable.
  3. Other additives protect the material from aggressive environmental influences.

Porous structure of Penoplex

When extruded polystyrene foam hardens, an air layer remains inside it, evenly distributed throughout the entire structure of the material. Therefore, the finished insulation has a homogeneous porous structure with small cells ranging in size from 0.1 to 0.3 mm, filled with air (gas). Each of them is isolated from the other, which ensures the highest thermal resistance and strength of the material.

As you can see, several varieties of Penoplex are produced, which are designed for a specific area of application. Therefore, slabs of material have a retail density and a certain range of standard sizes. The insulation is easy to install, lightweight, and perfectly cut to the required size. All this allows you to carry out the process of thermal insulation of building elements independently.

Penoplex slabs are very easy to install

The table gives “dry numbers”, but it is worth considering each of the parameters in more detail.

  • Coefficient Tthermal conductivity

“Penoplex” has low thermal conductivity: this parameter is one of the lowest among all modern insulation materials, about 0.03. The thermal conductivity of the material remains practically unchanged with changes in humidity or ambient temperature (fluctuations do not exceed 0.001 ÷ 0.003 W/m²×° WITH). Therefore, Penoplex is suitable for both external and internal thermal insulation - it is also used for floors, basements and foundations, and it does not require additional external protection with moisture-resistant materials.

  • Hygroscopicity

If the insulation is excessively hygroscopic, that is, it actively absorbs moisture, it loses not only most of its heat-insulating properties, but also becomes less durable. Therefore, this parameter is especially important for materials intended for insulation. and you need to pay special attention to this when purchasing. However, when buying high-quality Penoplex, you don’t need to worry about this parameter.

To ensure the reliability of Penoplex in this regard, numerous tests were carried out, during which the slab was completely immersed in water for a month. As a result, it turned out that the slab absorbed moisture by only 0.6% of its total volume. Moreover, the absorption process took place only during the first 10 days after immersion, and moisture penetrated only into the outer a layer of insulation that was damaged by the cut. The inside of it remained completely dry. This factor indicates the reliability of insulation with the help of “Penoplex” of any part of the building.

  • Vapor permeability

This type of polystyrene foam, such as Penoplex, perfectly resists evaporation. The slab, which is 20 mm thick, has a vapor permeability comparable to a layer of roofing felt. Therefore, using this insulation material, no additional vapor barrier is required, which significantly reduces the costs of the entire house or a separate part of it. However, in some cases, low vapor permeability will rather be a disadvantage - Penoplex will not allow natural vapor exchange, that is, the wall will not “breathe”.

  • Compressive strength

Thanks to the extrusion production technology, Penoplex has a uniform structure, and the uniform distribution of the smallest cells increases the strength and reliability of the material. It is able to withstand heavy loads, so it is excellent for insulating not only walls and ceilings, but also floors. Under heavy loads, only minor surface changes remain in the form of dents, the depth of which can be only 0.5 ÷ 1 mm.

  • Environmental friendliness

According to technological standards, Penoplex is designed as an environmentally friendly material. However, not all manufacturers adhere to these requirements, including components that are unsafe for the human body. Therefore, low-quality products over time begin to release substances that stimulate the development of certain diseases. Much depends on the installation of the material on walls - retreat technology can make Penoplex a source of danger to human health.

A high-quality material must be self-extinguishing, that is, it must spread a flame even when exposed to open fire. Unfortunately, not all materials behave this way - some of them not only burn, but also melt, turning into a burning flowing mass, which also emits a large amount of caustic and extremely toxic burning smoke.

It is difficult to determine the quality of a product by appearance, so before purchasing a large batch of material, you should buy one slab and conduct various experiments on it in the open air. After making sure that the insulation meets all the characteristics assigned to it, you can purchase the required number of panels.

In addition, it must be said that there is an abundance of low-quality fakes on the market, manufactured in violation of the technological process. This material is especially dangerous, since it is unknown how it might behave under emergency circumstances.

  • Lifetime

Since the insulation is also used for external insulation, during testing it is subjected to repeated freezing and thawing - these procedures indicate the number of cycles of use of the material under conditions of large temperature differences. Experiments are carried out until damage from external influences appears on the material. It is the number of cycles completed that determines the service life of the insulation.

Experiments conducted at NIISF showed that Penoplex can last for about 50 years without losing its original qualities. Typically, such a guarantee is given with a reserve, which means that the specified period exploitation is not the limit.

During testing, the material is exposed not only to temperature changes, but also to all kinds of atmospheric influences, such as high humidity, ultraviolet rays, and strong wind loads.

Again, we need to remind you of the manufacturer’s integrity - the material will be used without problems for the specified period if all established rules for its manufacture are followed.

  • Resistance of insulation to chemical attack

When using Penoplex in construction, you need to know which substances are capable of destroying the insulation, and which ones are in perfect harmony with it. Basically, mineral chemical compounds that are used in construction practice are not harmful to this material, but some organic substances cause it to soften or melt.

To avoid encountering such troubles during work, it is better to prepare in advance and exclude substances containing such components from the insulation process.

Substances incompatible with Penoplex include:

  1. Esters and ethers: ethyl acetate and methyl acetate solvents and diethyl ether.
  2. Toluene, benzene, xylene and similar hydrocarbons.
  3. Formaldehyde and formaldehyde.
  4. Diesel fuel, kerosene, gasoline.
  5. Ketones - acetone, methyl ethyl ketone.
  6. Coal tar.
  7. Oil paints.
  8. Polyesters that are used as epoxy resin hardeners.

It is worth listing those compounds that will not harm Penoplex:

  1. Various alcohols and substances based on them, including paints.
  2. All types of acids (inorganic and organic).
  3. Bleaching powder.
  4. Saline solutions.
  5. Water and water-based paints.
  6. Alkalis.
  7. Ammonia, propane, butane.
  8. Freons.
  9. Carbon dioxide and oxygen.
  10. Cement based solutions.
  11. Vegetable and animal oils, as well as paraffins.

In addition, it can be noted that Penoplex has high biostability - it is not subject to rotting and decomposition.

Marking "Penoplex"

Previously, the marking had a letter in the first place, followed by numbers, for example, M35 and M45. The modern designation is as indicated in the table above, that is, 31.31C, 35, 45 and 45C.

  1. Penoplex 31 has fairly low compressive strength, so it is not used in areas where high loads are expected. Most often it is used for insulating containers and various pipelines.
  2. Material marked 31C is also not very durable and is intended for insulating internal walls. Its difference from 31 lies in the higher degree of flammability of the material.
  3. "Penoplex" 35 has fairly high strength and good thermal insulation qualities, therefore it is considered universal. They insulate walls, foundations, floors and pipes.
  4. "Penoplex" 45 is used for insulation of runways, arrangement of road surfaces, thermal insulation of deep foundations, floors in production workshops and other premises with high dynamic loads. The density of this material allows it to withstand increased loads, and its water resistance prevents coatings from deforming due to temperature changes.
  5. 45WITH has characteristics close to “Penoplex” - 45 in terms of strength and thermal insulation, but insulation with this marking is usually chosen for fixing to the walls of industrial premises with large volumes.

Along with digital marking, there is another line in which the characteristics of Penoplex are as close as possible to its operational purpose.

Sometimes marking is done a little differently, and it is much easier to understand.

  • “Penoplex – Wall” has a density in the range of 25 ÷ 32 kg/m³ and is intended for fastening to external and internal walls, as well as for insulating partitions and plinths, which increases energy saving and the quality of sound insulation of a building.

"Penoplex" for wall insulation

If insulation is carried out outside the building, then after fixing the insulation and sealing the seams between the slabs, it is recommended to apply plaster on top of Penoplex or cover it with one of the facade materials, such as lining, siding or decorative tiles.

  • "Penoplex - Foundation" has a density of 29 ÷ 33 kg/m³ and is used for insulating foundations and surfaces in basements. The material is quite dense and water-resistant, as it is designed to insulate precisely these building elements. It is also used for thermal insulation of septic tanks that are not too deep and there is a risk of freezing.

  • "Penoplex - Roofing" is produced for insulation of rafter or flat roofs. In addition, it is also suitable for insulating attic floors. The density of this brand of material is 28 ÷ 33 kg/m³, so it is quite light and will not put a large load on the rafter system.

  • "Penoplex - Comfort" has a density of 25 ÷ 35 kg/m³ and is used for insulating the walls of apartments, balconies and loggias, as well as surfaces in private houses and rooms with high humidity, such as baths and saunas. The density of the material is low, but it is quite sufficient for residential buildings, since it will not be subjected to heavy loads.

  • "Penoplex - 45" has a density of 35 ÷ 47 kg/m3 and its purpose has already been discussed above. But besides this, it is used to insulate the floors of garages and flat roofs, on which sports grounds and even parking lots are organized.

Basics of Penoplex insulation technology

In order for the insulation to fully cope with the tasks assigned to it, it is necessary to follow the technology of its installation on certain elements of the structure.

Insulation of walls outside

Not only the preservation of heat in the premises of the house, but also the health of its residents will depend on the correct installation of Penoplex on the walls outside. Unfortunately, in violation of technology, to save money, many builders attach insulation only to special fastenings - dowels with wide caps, which are called “fungi”. Such installation will not only not insulate the walls, but will also contribute to the appearance of mold or fungal colonies inside the home, which can grow and penetrate inside the wall material. This happens because the dew point shifts due to the loose fit of the insulation material to the wall. Therefore, if you have already decided to carry out insulation, then you should do it according to all the rules.

  • The first thing you need to start working with is preparing the surfaces for installation of Penoplex. The wall needs to be cleaned of old plaster, dirt and dust. Then it is primed with antifungal solutions.

If, after cleaning the surfaces, obvious deformations or unevenness are discovered, they must be leveled with a layer of plaster, otherwise the slabs will not fit tightly to the wall. After the wall is leveled and dried, it should be primed again.

  • "Penoplex" begins to be installed from the bottom of the wall, and in order for the first row to stand perfectly straight, an L-shaped starting profile is fixed along the broken line, on which they will carefully stand insulation boards material .

  • Next, comes the installation of the first row of material on the wall. The slabs are fixed to the surface using special adhesive solutions that are applied directly to the slab. After that, it presses well against the wall.

Installation of "Penoplex" is carried out according to the brickwork scheme, and there should be no gaps between the slabs. If they still remain, they must be filled with foam after the main glue has dried.

  • Next, after the slabs are glued, they must be secured with plastic dowels—“fungi.” To do this, holes are drilled in the wall directly through the insulation, into which a part of the dowel is installed. hat, then a plastic nail is driven into it. You will need 5 ÷ 6 such fastenings per m²; if necessary, their number can be increased. The caps of the fasteners must be flush with the surface of the insulation, that is, pressed into it to the thickness of the cap.

  • After this, it is recommended to strengthen the corners with perforated metal corners. This must be done because the material on the corner parts of the house is damaged first.
  • Next comes the stage of surface reinforcement. In order for the plaster solution to have good adhesion to insulation boards, you need to go over them with coarse sandpaper.

Then a cement-based plaster-adhesive composition is applied to the surface from the top of the wall, onto which a reinforcing fiberglass mesh is fixed. It is well leveled and embedded in the first layer applied to the slabs.

Wall reinforcement on top of Penoplex

  • The first layer with reinforcing mesh must dry well and only after that the second leveling plaster layer is applied. It is well leveled, and if it is planned to be coated with paint, it is brought to a smooth state using putty compounds.

If relief plaster is applied to the surface or decorative tiles are laid, then ideal smoothness of the surface is not needed - high-quality leveling is sufficient.

Insulation of the walls of a balcony or loggia

Insulation of internal walls, as well as balconies, is carried out in the same way as external ones, but balcony surfaces have their own characteristics when insulated.

The joints of the glued and fixed insulation must be covered with foil tape or covered with polyurethane foam.

Next, when there are no cold bridges left, you can fasten another layer of foil insulation on top and cover the walls with clapboard or plasterboard. Another option is to apply finishing plaster directly on top of Penoplex.

Roof thermal insulation

The process of roof insulation occurs during the construction phase or during reconstruction.

1 – Board cladding.

2 – Lathing.

3 – Vapor barrier membrane.

4 – “Penoplex”.

5 – Rafter leg.

6 – Windproof film.

7 – Counter-lattice.

8 – Roof covering.

In the presented version, the entire “pie” is laid on plank sheathing, fixed on the attic side, on which a vapor barrier membrane is laid.

  1. Penoplex is mounted between the rafter legs. If there are gaps between these elements, they must be filled with polyurethane foam.
  2. Then the insulation layer is covered with windproof film.
  3. A counter-lattice is fixed on top of the rafters, on which the roofing material is laid.

When insulating the attic floor, Penoplex is placed between the beams on board sheathing, lined on the side of the house premises. The “pie” is compiled on the same principle as roofing insulation, that is, vapor barrier, “Penoplex”, waterproofing film, plank flooring of the attic floor.

Thermal insulation of concrete floor

Due to its high density, this insulation can be glued to the concrete floor surface of an apartment, for example, under a laminate or parquet board.

An adhesive mass is applied to the cleaned and primed floor, onto which Penoplex slabs with fastening grooves and tenons are glued. This method will help not only insulate, but also soundproof room, and also level the floor surface.

Laying Penoplex slabs on the floor

Another option for floor insulation with Penoplex can be its installation between joists fixed to the floor. This is how thermal insulation is produced when it is planned to lay a plank floor on top of it. a similar method is usually used in a private house, since in an apartment the ceiling height is limited to 2700 mm, and a layer of floor insulation will reduce this parameter by another 80 ÷ 100 mm.

This domestic insulation is designed for installation on any surface of a private home, and is also well suited for the “warm floor” system. Technoplex is produced using nanotechnology, using graphite, which can reduce the thermal conductivity of the insulation and increase the strength of the slabs.

Technoplex packaging

This material, unlike Penoplex, has a gray-silver color, but meets all the necessary requirements for the former.

"Technoplex" is produced in the form of slabs with a thickness of 100,50,40,30 and 20 mm. The slabs have joint grooves and tenons, which allow them to be assembled into a single covering that has no gaps - this avoids the formation of cold bridges.

After installing the Technoplex on an insulated surface, it should be covered with decorative material, since ultraviolet rays are quite destructive for it.

« Polyspen »

Another analogue of “Penoplex” is the domestically produced insulation “Polyspen”. This material is produced in three versions, which differ in technical characteristics - thermal conductivity, compressive strength and flammability:

— “Polyspen 45”

— “Polyspen 35”

— “Polyspen Standard”

The numbers included in the marking determine the density of the insulation - these are 45 kg/m³ and 35 kg/m³.

Polispen is also considered a worthy competitor to Penoplex

The complex of ingredients that make up the material includes fire retardants, which significantly reduce the flammability of the insulation.

— “Polyspen 35” is used for insulation and sound insulation of load-bearing walls of a building, as well as for internal partitions.

— “Polyspen 45” is suitable for thermal insulation of floors in a house or garage, as well as for road surfaces that bear heavy loads - its density allows them to withstand them without problems.

— “Polyspen Standard” is excellent for insulating rooms where such quality as reduced flammability is especially necessary - this is the “warm floor” system, garage floors, attic floors.

The slabs are produced in thicknesses of 100, 80, 60, 50, 40, 30 and 20 mm, so from them you can choose the option that is suitable for a specific insulation area.

In conclusion, I would like to say that it is better to purchase heat-insulating material in specialized stores that can present a quality certificate for the products they sell. When buying it on “wild” markets, you can easily run into a fake. Therefore, you should not take risks, since, having saved pennies, you can later pay with your own health. And also - no matter where the material is purchased, it is recommended to first conduct a quality test by purchasing one slab. In contact with open flame 2 0
