Classics of the genre

Scrabble is a classic word game that has become incredibly popular and recognizable all over the world.

In the basic version you will find a cardboard playing field, a hundred chips in a branded bag and a holder for them. In the travel version, you will have a collapsible field inside a plastic case, and the chips can be tightly fixed to the surface of the field. Along the edges of the road version there is also a scale designed to mark points.

How to play

The rules of the game remain unchanged. Each player takes seven chips from the bag. Among them there are two dummies - chips that can be used to replace any letter.

The first word must go through the central cell and can consist of two or more letters. The following words can already be composed in several ways.

Who has won

The game ends when all the chips are used, or if there are no more opportunities to create new words. The winner is the one with the most points, they are calculated based on the price for each letter indicated on the chip. As well as the number of prize points from prize cells.

What is in the box

The fairly large box below the rule and board contains a letter pouch and four player coasters.

Take the chips and start the game

According to the rules of the Scrabble board game, all players receive seven letter tiles from the common pile and place them on stands without showing them to others.

The player starting the game places the first word from his letters. It must cross the yellow square located in the middle of the field.

Getting points

The word can be laid out vertically or horizontally. Then the participant counts the points by adding up the numbers on the chips he placed and the bonus cells on the playing field. Moreover, bonuses for individual letters are counted earlier than total points for a word.

But if a player can use all seven of his chips, then, according to the rules of the board game Scrabble, he will receive an additional 50 points.

The points scored by the player are recorded and the move is passed on to the next one, and this player gets up to seven letters from the bag.

We take turns

The following players add new letters and create new words on their turn.

Letters can be added to an already formed word to form a new one, or a new word can be constructed at right angles to an existing one.

You can also lay out a new word parallel to the existing one, so that all touching chips form new words. Then, to count the points for each word, the total letters are counted.

If desired, the player can simply skip a move, or replace any number of chips from his stand with chips from the bag.

End of the game

Scrabble will come to an end when there are no more word options left on the table, when everyone has passed twice, or when all the tiles in one player's base have been used up.

Participants deduct points for the remaining chips in their hands, and if one of the players gets rid of all his chips, he adds the sum of his opponents' penalty points to his winning points.

A word can kill, a word can save,
With a word you can lead the shelves with you...

Vadim Shefner, "Words"

Scrabble is a classic game that has been used by generations of families to while away their evenings. It is known in 122 countries around the world as excellent intellectual entertainment.

About the game "Scrabble"

Scrabble is a board game invented 80 years ago by American architect Alfred Butts. After ten years of unsuccessful implementation attempts and numerous improvements, it finally took off and united fans of crosswords and anagrams.

The game was originally called “Criss-Crosswords”, but the entrepreneur who bought it from the author renamed it “Scrabble” - it was under this name that it went down in history. “Scrabble” (scrabble, scrabble, scrabble, scrible – everyone pronounces it differently) is translated from English as ““frantically looking for something”, “rummaging”.

Over its long life, the game sold a hundred million copies. It is released in 31 languages. In the USA and Europe, regular championships are held for “word makers” who are ready to play Scrabble anytime, anywhere.

Of course, the most popular is the original version for thoughtful play at the table. Road Scrabble differs from it in the structure of the field - it is not smooth, but with recesses for each piece, so that the shaking of the train car does not destroy the folded words. The dimensions allow you to use the set both at home and while traveling.

There is also a children's set. Words are already written on its field - just look carefully at the letters that you have on your hands and lay them out according to the pattern.

How well known is Scrabble in our country?

In the Russian Federation, the budget copy called “Erudite” (formerly “Krestoslovitsa” and “Slovodel”), which appeared back in the 60s of the last century, is better known. In some cases, they even do it with their own hands, drawing out the field and cutting out chips from cardboard.

The original board game “Scrabble” in Russian began to gain popularity in the post-Soviet period. Now there is even a public organization, the Scrabble Federation of Russia, which unites the most ardent word game lovers and holds tournaments throughout the country.

“Scrabble” can be found at home, at a party, in establishments such as time cafes and themed restaurants. This is a great helper for improving vocabulary and spending time productively for the mind.

Is Scrabble a good family game?

Scrabble is ideal for quiet family evenings and gatherings with friends who prefer intellectual entertainment to test their knowledge.

If you are playing at home level, then strictly following all the rules is not necessary. For example, it will be possible to allow participants to use all cases and declensions, and words either singular or plural. But for a serious game there are clear rules.

What's in the Scrabble kit?

In the big box you will find:

  • rules of the game;
  • playing field 15 by 15 cells;
  • 4 stands for chips;
  • a bag with 104 square dominoes with letters written on them and their “price”.

By the way, as noted above, they call it a game of who knows what. The transcription of the word “scrabble” sounds like “scrabble”, which is exactly what is correct. But more often you can see the spelling and hear it more familiar to the Russian ear "scrabble".

Preparing to play Scrabble

Before you start the game, prepare a piece of paper and a pen. The page will need to be divided into as many columns as there are players, and labeled. Points earned will be recorded here.

Place all the letter dominoes into a bag and mix. Each participant draws one chip blindly - whoever has the chip with the letter closest to the beginning of the alphabet (keep in mind that the “blank” comes before the “A”) goes first. Next - clockwise.

A special “Scrabble” or “Scrabble” dictionary will also come in handy, where acceptable words are listed. A regular spelling dictionary will also work. You cannot use it when composing lexemes - only when checking in controversial cases.

Participants place stands for dominoes in front of them, take turns, without looking, take 7 dominoes from the bag (the drawn one is removed back during the draw) and place them on the stand.

Purpose of the game

The goal of the game is to score as many points as possible. To do this, you need not only to compose words, but also to place them on the field with maximum benefit in order to earn more. Each player tries to place his dominoes on bonus squares, and the next player tries to take advantage of mistakes by opponents or opportunities that arise.

Mutual assistance and the game of Scrabble (Scrabble) are not compatible, unless it is a training game. The player can only see his chips and operate only with them.

Amateur play time is not limited.

As a result, every word on the playing field should be clearly readable, and it should not turn out to be gobbledygook, otherwise you will not have “Scrabble”, but “scramble” (from English “dump”). Using a grid made up of letters laid out by the players, it should be possible to form words for a crossword puzzle.

Scrabble - rules and strategy of the game

Classic Scrabble is a board game with strict conditions. The rules of Scrabble imply not only the formation of words from letters - this must be done in a strictly defined way.

In Scrabble, the rules limit the choice of words allowed. The foreign vocabulary used should be recorded in Russian spelling in the dictionary, and not rely on pronunciation and transcription. So, you can write “pen” or “cafe” if you play Scrabble in English, but if your game is not “english”, but “Russian”, then you will have to write the translation - “pen” and “coffee”, and not "pen" and "cafe".

The basic strategy of the game is to compose not only long, but the most valuable words - from rare letters and ending up in bonus fields. And, if possible, cut off the enemy’s access to advantageous moves.

In the travel version of Scrabble Travel Deluxe, the rules are completely identical to the original. The board game Scrabble Junior from Mattel has one fundamental difference, which is mentioned above.

What is bingo in scrabble? This is an entertainment similar to “Russian Lotto”, only instead of numbers there are words, and instead of numbers, letters are drawn from a bag.

How to play Scrabble

From 2 to 4 people participate. They use chips to write interconnected words on the board, similar to a crossword puzzle.

When posting, important conditions must be observed:

  • The letters must be positioned strictly horizontally or vertically, intersecting with those already laid out;
  • It is allowed to build up one word so that a new full-fledged one is obtained (“forest” - “forester”). But you cannot add letters to the middle of a word and end up with nonsense (“ruka” + “lach” = not “kalach”, but “rukalach”);
  • You cannot move tiles that are already lying down in order, for example, to turn a “hand” into a “handle”;
  • You can lay out two words in one fell swoop, if a good neighborhood allows it. One will be read from top to bottom, the second from left to right;
  • It is allowed to make a “bridge” between parallel rows, completing the required word;
  • The “dummy” replaces any letter and remains on the field. Its cost is zero.

Almost all of these rules do not apply to Scrabble. Unexpected turns (Scrabble Twists Turns).

The game ends when all the chips are used up or the players can no longer make a single move.

Explanations for controversial cases

All dominoes touching in a straight line must form one word. You cannot write “porridge” if after the second “a” there is a “p” from the perpendicular “hat” - otherwise it will come out “kashap”;

it is permissible to repeat one word twice;

unlike Scrabble, Scrabble allows the use of plural forms of nouns and other parts of speech;

letters can be built up on both sides of the word (“house” - “adjoining”);

bonus cells are triggered only on the turn when a chip is placed on them;

if a player manages to compose several words during a turn, then he receives points for each according to the basic rules;

The dictionary is needed only for checking - looking for words in it on your own is dishonest.

Mechanics

In Scrabble, the mechanics are based on chance, knowledge and resourcefulness of the participants. Technically, it can be described as laying out words from randomly dropped elements.

Every word counts

Each new word can radically affect the score if it lands well on the board. Therefore, be careful every move.

A little tip: you can make up several short words per turn. Even if they are cheap in themselves, if all the chips are spent on them, you will receive bonus points.

Preparing for the game

Before the start of the game "Scrabble" Prepare a sheet of paper and a pen. Lay out the playing field, decide who will go first, and collect the starting 7 dominoes (they are picked up after each move).

Scoring

The system by which points are calculated seems confusing, but only at first glance.

Each domino with a letter indicates its “price” - how many points its use will bring. Depending on the frequency of use of the letter in the language, this meaning changes:

  • A, B, E, I, N, O, R, S, T – 1 point;
  • D, K, L, M, P, U – 2 points;
  • B, G, E, L, I – 3 points;
  • Y, Y – 4 points;
  • F, W, X, C, H – 5 points;
  • W, E – 8 points;
  • F, Ш, Б – 10 points.

When the letters do not fall on the colored cells, their “price” is simply summed up. For example, a short “pike” – 10+2+2+1= 15 points. And the long “cow” is 2+1+1+1+1+1=7 points.

If the chip lands on a light blue cell, then the number of letter points is multiplied by two, if on a dark blue cell, by three. In “pike” the “sch” lands on a dark blue cell – 10*3+2+2+1=35 points.

If a word overlaps the light red box, the letter's score is not multiplied, but the total for the entire word is multiplied by two. The dark red field is for three. “Pike” – (10+2+2+1)*3=45

Will the word land on several colored cells at the same time? First we multiply the cost of the letters, then we add everything up, then we multiply the entire amount.

Those who were able to use up all seven dominoes in one move receive an additional 50 points.

With one successful move you can earn up to 200 points.

After the final, the cost of all the letters remaining in his hands is deducted from the participant’s total account. And if he has spent all the chips, then the amount of his opponents’ fines is added to him.

Pip exchange

There is an unsuccessful move in which not even the smallest word can be put together. In this case, the Scrabble rules allow you to skip a move and exchange any number of dominoes blindly.

Pass and pass

The participant may not lay out anything and not change dominoes, but simply say “pass”. He gets zero points and the turn moves on to the next one. When all players have said "pass" twice in turn, the game ends - because it cannot continue with ghost players.

Composing the first word

The first word to start the board game is entrusted to the player who wins the toss. The main condition: at least two letters used and the intersection of the central cell with an asterisk. Sometimes the rule is complicated: the first word must be at least five letters or two syllables.

Scrabble (English Scrabble - “rummage around in search of something”) is a board game that can be played by 2 to 4 people, laying out words from the letters they have in a field measuring 15 x 15. In the Russian-speaking environment, it is known as “ Erudite."

Playing field consists of 15x15, that is, 225 squares, on which the participants of the game lay out letters, thereby making up words. At the beginning of the game, each player receives 7 random letters (there are 104 in total in the game). The first word is placed in the middle of the playing field, then the next player can add the word “at the intersection” from his letters. Words are laid out either from left to right or from top to bottom.

Dictionary

It is allowed to use all words listed in the standard dictionary of the language, with the exception of words written in capital letters, abbreviations, and words written with an apostrophe or hyphen. In the Scrabble version, you can use all cases, declensions and tenses.

At the same time, in the game "Scrabble", according to the traditions of Russian linguistic games, it is allowed to use only common nouns in the singular nominative case (or plural, if the word does not have a singular form).

It is prohibited to use a dictionary to look up words. A dictionary is allowed only if it checks for the existence of an already posted word.

At the beginning of the game, everyone is given seven chips. You can post several words in one move. Each new word must be in contact (have a common letter or letters) with previously laid out words. Words are read only horizontally from left to right and vertically from top to bottom.
The first word laid out must go through the central cell.
If a player does not want or cannot lay out a single word, he has the right to change any number of his letters, thereby skipping a move.
Any sequence of letters horizontally and vertically must be a word. That is, the game does not allow random letter combinations that do not represent words that meet the above criteria to appear on the field.
After each move you need to get up to seven new letters.
If a player uses all seven tiles during a turn, he is awarded an additional 50 points.

Scoring and bonuses

Each letter is assigned a number of points from 1 to 10. Some squares on the board are painted in different colors. The number of points a player receives for a given word is calculated as follows:
if the square under the letter is colorless, the number of points written on the letter is added
if the square is blue, the number of letter points is multiplied by 2
if the square is pink, the score of the entire word is multiplied by 2
if the square is blue, the number of letter points is multiplied by 3
if the square is red, the score of the entire word is multiplied by 3

If a word crosses both red and blue cells, then the doubling (tripling) of the word's points takes into account the doubling (tripling) of the letter's points.

Dummy (joker, star)

Also, the set of tiles contains several empty tiles (in the Scrabble version - stars). Such a chip can be used as any letter of the player's choice. For example, a player can put the word “TE*EFON”, where the role of the letter “L” will be played by a dummy.

Rules for scoring and the use of pacifiers may vary and players should agree on the details in advance. Below are possible rules.

Scoring for a dummy:
The dummy always has 0 points (classic Scrabble rules).
The dummy brings as many points as the letter whose role it plays would bring.

Reusing pacifiers:
After being placed on the field, the dummy is considered played and remains in this place until the end of the game (classic Scrabble rules).
If one player has laid out the word “TE*EFON”, then any player, having the letter “L”, can replace it with a dummy and take it for himself. As a rule, there is an additional rule obliging in this case to use (put down) the dummy taken from the field in the same move, that is, when you cannot take it “in reserve.”

1 Board game Scrabble Rules of the game Every word counts! SCRABBLE is a word game for 2, 3 or 4 players. The game consists of composing interconnected words, similar to a crossword puzzle, on the SCRABBLE playing field, using dice with letters that have different point values. The goal of the game is to score the most points. Players compete by placing their letter tiles in combinations and positions to maximize the value of the letters and prize squares on the board. The total game score can vary from 400 to 800 points or more depending on the skill of the players. Contents of the game set. 1 game board 104 letter tiles 4 tile stands 1 tile bag 104 letter tiles 102 alphabet tiles and 2 pacifiers. Each tile with a letter has a point value (the number at the bottom right of the letter). Both dummies have no point value but can be used as any letter desired. When using them, the player must establish which letter it represents, after which this cannot be changed during the game. Preparing for the game Prepare a pen and paper to record the score. Place the game board in the center. Each player takes a dice stand and places it in front of them. All the bones are placed in a bag. In order to determine who will move first, each player takes one tile. The player whose letter is closest to the beginning of the alphabet goes first. In this case, the dummy precedes the letter "A". Then the seeds are returned back to the bag and mixed. Next, players take turns taking 7 new tiles and placing them on their stands. Now you're ready to play SCRABBLE. The game goes clockwise. Scoring One player is assigned to be in charge of scoring. The scorekeeper keeps track of the players' scores and records them after each player takes his turn. Exchange of Pieces Any player may use their turn to exchange any or all of the tiles on their stand. To do this, you need to turn them letter side down, take the same number of new seeds and mix the discarded seeds with those remaining in the bag. After this, the player waits for the next move. Pass (pass a move) Instead of placing tiles on the board or replacing tiles, a player is allowed to pass, regardless of whether he can form a word (or words) or not. However, if all players pass twice in a row, the game ends.

2 Making the first word The first player makes a word from two or more tiles and places them either horizontally or vertically so that one tile falls on the central square (star). Words cannot be formed diagonally. All tiles placed during this and subsequent moves must be located in one continuous line, horizontally or vertically. Allowed words It is allowed to use all the words listed in the standard dictionary of the Russian language, with the exception of words that are written only in capital letters, abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes, and words that are written with an apostrophe or dash. Words of foreign origin included in the standard dictionary of the Russian language are considered included in the vocabulary of the Russian language, and they are allowed to be used. Before the game begins, all players must agree on which vocabulary will be used. Once a tile has been placed on the board, it cannot be moved unless the word has been successfully challenged. Challenging Words Once a word has been formed, it can be challenged before points are added and before the next player takes his turn. Only in this case can you use a dictionary to check spelling and word usage. If the challenged word is unacceptable, the player takes his tiles back and loses his turn. Prize cells of the playing field The playing field consists of cells, 15 cells in each of 15 rows, with a grid applied for the location of the bones. There are special prize squares on the field that have a premium point value: Prize squares for a letter A light blue square doubles the value of the letter placed on it, a dark blue square triples the value of the letter placed on it. Prize squares for a word The value of the entire word is doubled if one of its tiles is placed on a light red square; it triples if the bone is placed on a dark red square. If a word crosses both a letter bonus square and a word bonus square, all bonus points for the word are added together before the word score is doubled or tripled. The bonus points of prize squares apply only to the turn in which tiles are placed on them. If a dummy is placed on a red square of a triple or double count word, the point value for the tiles in the word is doubled or tripled, even though the dummy itself has no point value. If it is placed on the blue square of a triple or double count letter, the value of the dummy is still zero. Scoring for the first word The player ends his turn by counting the points and reports the number of points scored, which is recorded by the scorer.

3 The number of points for a turn is calculated by adding all the values of the numbers on the tiles and the bonus point scores if the tiles are placed on prize squares. Ending the queue At the end of each turn, the player collects the number of tiles that he used during the turn, therefore, he must always have seven tiles on the stand. Extra 50 Bonus Points If a player has used all seven tiles in one turn, they receive a bonus of 50 points in addition to the normal points scored that turn. These 50 points are added after doubling or tripling the points per word. Next player's turn The second and each subsequent player can change tiles, skip a move, add one or more tiles to those already placed to form a word of two or more letters. All tiles used in any one move should be placed on the board in only one row or one column. If the tiles touch other tiles in adjacent rows, they must form a complete word with them, similar to a crossword puzzle. The player writes down to his account all the words formed or changed by his move. This includes all bonus points for any prize squares he placed tiles on. There are five different ways to form words: 1. By adding one or more seeds to the beginning or end of a word that is already on the board, or to both the beginning and the end of such a word. 2. By placing the words at right angles to the word that is already on the field. The new word must use one of the letters that are already on field 3. By placing a complete word parallel to the word already placed, so that adjacent seeds also form complete words. 4. A new word can also be formed by adding a letter to an existing word. 5. The last method is to create a “bridge” between two or more letters. (This can only happen on turn 4 or later in the game) Game End The game ends when all tiles have been selected and one player has no more tiles on the stand. The game also ends when all possible moves have been made, or when all players have consecutively missed their moves twice. After all points are counted, each player's score is reduced by the sum of the unplayed tiles, and if one player has used all his tiles, his score is increased by the sum of all the unplayed tiles of all other players. Remember the game can be lost or won by using the last letter in the bag! Clarification of often misunderstood rules If any tile touches another tile in adjacent rows, it must form a complete word with all such tiles, like a crossword puzzle. The same word can be played more than once. The use of words in the plural is permitted.

4 The word can be expanded at both ends in one move, for example, HEALTHY to UNHEALTHY. All tiles placed during any move must be located in one continuous line, horizontally or vertically. You cannot add tiles to different words or form a word in different parts of the field in one move. The bonus points of prize squares apply only to the turn in which tiles are placed on them. If several words are formed during one move, each word is taken into account. Common letters count (with full bonus point value if located on bonus squares) when scoring for each word. If a word crosses two word score prize squares, the word score is doubled, then doubled again and equal to 4 times the word score, or tripled and then tripled again and equal to 9 times the word score. If a dummy is placed on a red square for a triple or double count word, the tile score for the word is doubled or tripled, even though the dummy itself has no point value. If it is placed on the blue square of a triple or double count letter, the value of the dummy is still zero. The game ends if one player has used all his tiles and his rack is empty. Sometimes neither player will be able to use all of their tiles. In this case, the game continues until all possible moves have been made. If a player cannot make a move, he misses it. If all players miss a turn twice in a row, the game also ends. Neither a dictionary nor a vocabulary reference book can be used during the game to find words that match the tiles in the player's base. They can only be contacted if a controversial word is played out. Rules for playing at home Reusing pacifiers The official rules state that once a pacifier has been played, it must not be touched. There is a variant of the game in which the pacifiers can be reused indefinitely. If the word HEALTHY is made with a dummy instead of a B, any player who has a B can take the dummy and replace it with that B. That player can then immediately use the dummy on their turn. Themed SCRABBLE A good way to pass the time is to play themed SCRABBLE. If you are playing on Christmas Day, award an additional 5 points for each word you make that relates to Christmas. If you are all big sports fans, try to form words related to sports etc. Players' valiant attempts to confirm that certain words are associated with a given topic also add an element of fun to the game. “Jacks to Open” In order to make the beginning of the game more interesting, and the game itself more open, you can introduce a rule in which players must make a word of 5 letters or more when making the first move in the game, similar to the rule of “revealing cards” when playing in poker with “Jacks to open” If the first player cannot form a word of 5 letters or more, he passes the move to the one sitting on his left, and so on, until one of the players can play at least 5 letters. If no one can form a 5 letter word, the player who started the game gets a chance to form a 4 letter word, if he cannot do this, he again passes the turn to the one sitting on the left, as described above.

5 SCRABBLE with Double Bag To make the game easier, separate the letters into sets of consonants and vowels, and put them in 2 separate bags, then give players the choice between a consonant and a vowel when they take out the letters. SCRABBLE in reverse If you have played a game of SCRABBLE, try playing SCRABBLE in reverse. Each player, in turn, when making a move, removes at least one and no more than six letters from the field. The removed tiles should be taken from one word on the field, and after such a move, all the words remaining on the field must be valid and connected like a crossword puzzle. The game continues until all the tiles are removed, or until a legal move can be made. Players count points based on the face value of all the tiles they remove. SCRABBLE Bingo SCRABBLE Bingo is pretty much the same as the regular Bingo game, but it is played with SCRABBLE tiles. To play: Think of two seven-letter words and write them down. Be careful not to use more letters than are included in the SCRABBLE set (check the number of letters listed at the beginning of the rules guide). For example, there are three letters M in the SCRABBLE set, so your two words should not contain more than three letters M. One of the players or an outsider randomly draws letters from the SCRABBLE bag and names them. Cross out the letters that are in your words. When you have crossed out all the letters in both words, say "Scrabble Bingo" (1) and the person saying the letters will check your sheet to make sure you have completed it correctly. (1) Note: You can only cross out one letter at a time, i.e. if you have four E's in both words, you can cross out only one E when it is called. J.W. Scrabble (translated from English as “rummaging around in search of something”) is a very popular game. Scrabble rules were first described in Russian in 1968, in the journal Science and Life. The name of the game was translated as "Crossword". However, the game later became widely known as “Erudite” or “Wordmaker”.

Description of the board game set: field and chips

The playing field is a square with dimensions of 15 by 15 divisions - a total of 225 places. The set also contains gaming chips - wooden or plastic squares with letters and points printed on them. There are 104 letters in total, the number of copies of each depends on the frequency of its use in a particular language, and the cost of each chip is determined from the same indicator. The set also includes several “dummies” or “jokers” that can be used instead of any symbol of the player’s choice.

In specialized stores you can purchase a board game in Russian or an English version - Scrabble. The design and cost of the fun can vary: from a cheap set made of plastic and paper to collectible handmade wooden sets.

Basic rules and goals of the game "Scrabble"

The main goal of the game is to score more points than your opponent by making words from chips. There is a variant of the game in which the first one to score a pre-agreed number of points wins.

According to the rules of the Scrabble game, from 2 to 4 people can take part in a round, depending on the size of the set - more players will need more chips. For those who are not confident in the capabilities of their own memory, it is better to stock up on a piece of paper and a pencil to write down the words they have composed.

The list of all the rules of the Scrabble game is not long. It includes the following items:

  1. Words should be composed in two directions: vertically - “top to bottom” and horizontally - “left to right”.
  2. Each participant is randomly given 7 chips before the start of the round.
  3. The player making the first move must place an inscription across the central square of the field.
  4. After each move, the player collects the spent chips.
  5. All subsequent words are composed only in conjunction with those already laid out.
  6. If a player does not want to form a word in his turn, then he should change the chips and skip the move.
  7. A participant who uses all 7 chips in one move receives additional points.
  8. A universal chip (“dummy” or “joker”) can be used instead of any letter of the player’s choice.
  9. The participant can replace the “dummy” with the required letter, provided that he uses it in the next move.
  10. The given rules can be changed or supplemented by prior agreement of the players.

Point 10 gives participants room to let their imagination fly and makes the game even more interesting.

We count points in the game "Scrabble" correctly

Scoring a game is not easy. Each player should keep a record of the words laid out during the course and the number of points scored. There are specially marked areas on the field that increase the value of the chips. The rules of the Scrabble game for scoring can be formulated as follows:

  1. The cost of a letter is doubled on green cells of the field and tripled on yellow ones. The extra points are called bonuses.
  2. The amount of a move consists of the cost of the letters laid out and is calculated for each player individually.
  3. If one of the word chips is located on a blue cell, the value of the word is doubled, on a red cell it is tripled. First, the bonus is calculated for letters, then for the word as a whole.
  4. If a player uses all 7 chips during a turn, he receives a bonus of 15 points.

As you can see, the rules of the Scrabble game are extremely simple and understandable. The colors of the premium areas of the game board may vary from set to set. In any case, the fun always comes with detailed instructions with analysis and visual examples for each rule.

Who can use the game "Scrabble"?

In addition to the fact that the fun is incredibly exciting and addictive, it is also a very educational activity. The board game "Scrabble" is perfect for schoolchildren and students studying foreign languages.

Scrabble will allow you to arrange a real competition and find out “whose English is better” or “who knows more foreign words”. Watching the game progress is as interesting as participating in it yourself. You can organize entire Scrabble tournaments as part of open lessons at school and even among faculties of higher educational institutions, like chess competitions.

Parents can play Scrabble with their children to develop their intelligence and spelling skills in their native language. Sometimes the desire to win forces a child to engage in real word creation and invent non-existent objects and concepts. You should not immediately reject the children’s compiled options; it is much more fun to ask the child and listen to his interpretation of the “new” word.
