Towards the creation of an American group My Chemical Romance from New Jersey, vocalist and guitarist Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier were prompted by the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001 - the guys decided to express their feelings in this way. Ray Toro was hired as a second guitarist to make it easier for Way to sing. Soon the guys recorded their first demo tapes, after listening to which Gerard's younger brother Mickey Way decided to join them as a bass player. He also suggested the name for the group, impressed by Irvine Welsh’s book “Ecstasy: Three Stories of Drug Happiness.” The group managed to sign a contract with the label Eyeball Records, and then meet the guitarist-vocalist of the band Pencey Prep. Frank Yero, who joined My Chemical Romance after the breakup of his team in 2002 and immediately before recording his debut album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, released in July 2002. The album was produced by the band's vocalist Thursday Jeff Rickly, with whom MCR became friends during joint concerts. From that moment on, the group began to attract the attention of new fans. A tour with Avenged Sevenfold and a contract with Reprise Records soon followed. New job My Chemical Romance– Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge – was published in 2004 and received platinum status in less than a year. The group traveled to Japan, after which Pelissier left MCR in July and was replaced by Bob Bryar.

In 2005 My Chemical Romance actively tour - participate in the Taste Of Chaos tour, Warped Tour 2005, accompany, and also record the famous Queen and David Bowie song “Under Pressure” together with The Used. In March 2006, the live album Life On The Murder Scene was released with two DVDs included - one containing a biography of the group, the second containing video clips and recordings of live performances. Also released in June 2006 was the DVD Things That Make You Go MMM!, which contained interviews with people who knew the members of MCR before they became famous.

In April 2006, together with producer Rob Cavallo, the group began working on their new album, which was eventually called The Black Parade. Video clips were shot for two singles from the album - "Welcome To The Black Parade" and "Famous Lat Words", and while working on the latter, Gerard Way and Briar were injured, so several concerts had to be cancelled.

Shortly before the album's release, My Chemical Romance decided to play one show at Hammersmith Palace in London, before which several dozen people participated in the promotional event - some stood dressed in black robes at the entrance to the palace, others walked back and forth with banners "The Black Parade". Already before the start of the concert, it was announced that MCR would not be able to perform, and The Black Parade would perform instead. Initially upset, fans quickly realized that it was just a prank, and the band on stage was exactly who they came for. The tour in support of the album, released in October 2006, began in February 2007. In April, Mickey Way, who wished to be with his wife, was replaced by the musicians' mutual friend Matt Cortez. While on tour with Muse, MCR and her team, as well as the team, suffered from food poisoning, so 6 concerts had to be cancelled. However, the group soon played the required shows in company with. MCR received several awards and nominations for the album The Black Parade.

In the spring of 2008, 13-year-old Hannah Bond, who belonged to the movement, committed suicide. This case was widely reported in the newspapers, especially in connection with the MCR, who were considered almost the legislators of this industry. However, fans stood up for the group, and the musicians themselves strongly denied their affiliation with “emo” and spoke disrespectfully about the media, which, in their opinion, completely unfoundedly connected their music and the suicide of a teenager.

In 2009 My Chemical Romance Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row", which was included in the soundtrack to the film "Watchmen", was recorded as a single. As a gift to fans, the band also decided to release some live performances from the Mexico concert on a bullet-shaped flash card, which also included exclusive photos of the musicians. This kit, called Venganza, arrived in stores in April. In May, information appeared on the band’s website that the musicians had decided to start recording their fourth album. Jeraj Way promised that the new work will be real rock, full of hate. In late July and early August, MCR took a break from recording to play two unscheduled shows in Los Angeles, premiering several new songs. In March 2010, it became known that Bob Briar had left the group. In September, a short video appeared on the Internet where the musicians My Chemical Romance fought with some strange creatures to the accompaniment of the song “Na Na Na”, which was officially presented a little later on the radio, and the album itself - Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys - was released in November 2010 and received rave reviews . Drummer Michael Pedicone went on tour with the band in support of the disc.

It's been six years since the breakup My Chemical Romance, but fans continue to hope for a revival. Once upon a time, this blog already talked about rumors and conjectures living among fans - in the material “MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE IS PREPARING FOR A REUNION? “That was almost a year and a half ago, and since then, it would seem, nothing has changed. There are no prerequisites or even hints of a reunion. But the fans are stubborn and patient people, they wait and wait. Therefore, Gerard Way decided to “reassure” them again. In quotes and with a minus sign, of course.

Here's what he said in a recent interview when talking about their latest album, “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys” (2010): “When a business starts out successful and everything goes very well, people have a certain opinion about your work, and you have to constantly fight to live up to this idea of you. Damn, everyone here knows what My Chemical Romance should be like! This makes it very difficult to know which direction to go. As a result, you fall into the trap of constantly thinking, “Are we good enough?”

According to Gerard, My Chemical Romance had reached their peak and were faced with the problem of living up to expectations. In other words, their only creative motivation was not the desire to express themselves through music, not the need to convey their ideas and feelings to the world, but the need to please the fans and meet their expectations. As a result, in such a situation, an internal conflict always arises, inhibiting development. Many groups have faced this problem, but not all have been able to overcome it. My Chemical Romance is one of them – they failed. The inability to resolve this contradiction ultimately led to the disintegration of the group.

Gerard says that creativity stopped bringing them joy, so there was only one way to break out of the vicious circle and break the system: disband the group. Which is what happened almost six years ago - the breakup was officially announced on March 22, 2013. Despite the age, Gerard still receives a lot of letters, proposals and questions about a possible reunion. He replies that he is flattered, it is very nice when you are not forgotten, but a reunion is impossible.

And yet hope does not die. Moreover, Gerard himself, apparently, is not so firm in his decision. He either stated that he wouldn’t mind playing again with the former My Chemical Romance line-up, or suddenly started talking about how the world has changed a lot for the worse, has become more chaotic, and therefore needs something positive. What could be more positive for MCR fans than a reunion? That’s probably why we continue to hope and wait. Never say never. My Chemical Romance, come back! We are waiting.

Gerard Way is known to the “2007 generation” as the leader of the American emo band My Chemical Romance, which ceased to exist in 2013 at the peak of its popularity. Last year he released his solo album Hesitant Alien, which critics called bold and confident.

This fall, Gerard is going on a tour of Russia: his list includes major cities in our country - from Moscow to Vladivostok, including Yekaterinburg. Way himself is very proud of this: “Who else can boast of having played in the Urals and Siberia?” - he says.

September 12, and we managed to contact him in advance and find out what he himself expects from the performance, whether he managed to “throw off the mask” and whether he will continue to surprise fans.

A year ago you released your solo album Hesitant Alien and said that you wanted to “throw off the mask.” Can we say that you finally succeeded and now you appear before your fans as you really are?
- To be honest, the last few years of My Chemical Romance I was myself. And yes, indeed, I wore a mask for a couple of years, I started drinking again, because there was no way to be honest with myself. But what you see now is the real me. It was amazing and I finally found freedom. Life is Beautiful!

During this time, were there any thoughts of reviving My Chemical Romance? Or go back from Britpop to a heavier sound?
- I am often asked this question, I understand why, so I try to answer it as politely as possible. Despite all my fond feelings for My Chemical Romance, I have no intention of going back. I miss the guys and the relationship that was between us, but I’m not trying to return the atmosphere that was. Now I'm trying to find something new that would be just as special.

I don't think I'll ever be able to get rid of the Britpop or 90s alternative sound in my work, because the music of my childhood has been with me throughout my life. But fans, of course, can always hear something unexpected - I’m unlikely to ever change in my ability to surprise them.

- Which musicians influenced you? Who are you listening to now?
- I listen to a lot of alternative bands from the 90s: Lush, Teenage Fanclub, Smashing Pumpkins. But I have a wide taste in music, I am a music lover. I think that among the latest records I would highlight the Never-ending Story soundtrack and the latest Kanye West album.

- You yourself are an illustrator and have published comics. Who is your favorite comic book character?
- My favorite comic is “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and my favorite superhero is Daredevil (“Daredevil”), I love him for his simplicity, I love his internal conflict, his shortcomings and how he tries to cope with them.

We know that you survived the attack and witnessed the terrorist attack on September 11, then you decided that something needed to be changed in this world, and you took up music. But not everyone can make such decisions. What advice would you give to young people who find themselves in difficult situations?
- I think the main thing I can advise is to understand that the only thing you can take control of in this life is yourself and your attitude towards others. Stopping trying to control what happens and taking control of yourself is the best gift you can give to those around you, then you may be able to contribute or change something. Be honest with yourself, be kind to yourself, be who you always wanted to be.

- You are raising a daughter, what would you like to see her in the future? Would you like her to become a musician too?
- I will support her in any endeavors, well, maybe, except for her to become a star on Vine (short video service - editor's note), everything else - please, if everything is fair. In fact, I would like her to become whoever she wants, so that her dreams come true - they are much more important than mine.

This will not be your first time in Russia, but it will be your first time in Yekaterinburg. Are Russian audiences different from audiences in other countries?
- I am delighted with the Russian public! I am very glad that my fans and I have common themes and interests, the audience here is especially warm to me, they are crazy, smart, funny and sweet.

- What do you expect from the concert in Yekaterinburg? Do you know something about our city?
- Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about the city, but I really want to find out everything as quickly as possible! Literally impatient! I went on a tour of Russia and Ukraine to see more than I had seen before, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit such beautiful and hospitable places.

2001-2013
My Chemical Romance is an American rock band founded in 2001 in New Jersey. It consists of: Gerard Way (vocals), Mikey Way (bass), Frank Iero (guitar), Ray Toro (guitar).

The band was founded by Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier, who became friends in high school. The first song they wrote was "Skylines and Turnstiles" (written by Gerard after the 9/11 tragedy he witnessed, which forced him to completely reconsider his views on life and take up music). They were soon joined by guitarist Ray Toro, an old friend of Gerard's. The band began rehearsing in the attic of Matt's house, and Mikey Way, Gerard's brother, was so impressed with the rehearsals that he decided to learn to play bass. He succeeded in just six months, and soon he joined the group.

Among the influences on the team we can highlight Thursday and, to a lesser extent, Cursive. Most of MCR's compositions are loud, fast and aggressive songs, not devoid of melody. The group got its name thanks to Irvine Welsh's book “Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance” (the name was invented by the band's bassist Mikey Way).

Three months after their formation, My Chemical Romance signed a contract with Eyeball Records and began recording their debut album. The entire studio process took them only ten days, from May 15 to May 25, 2002. During the recording of the album, the band was joined by guitarist Frank Iero, who had previously played in Pencey Prep, who also recorded on Eyeball, but had already disbanded by that time. My Chemical Romance has been compared to Thursday. Both bands come from New Jersey and are neighbors on the label. In addition, the material for I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love was produced by Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly. After the album's release, MCR (as My Chemical Romance is often abbreviated) took part in tours with The Used and 'Til Death.

In 2003, the group signed a contract with Reprise Records. After touring with Avenged Sevenfold, the band began work on their second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The album was released in 2004 and went platinum within a year. Four singles were released from the album: "Thank You for the Venom", "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)", "Helena" and "The Ghost of You".

After the release of this album, the group gained worldwide fame. MCR took part in the Vans Warped Tour 2004, headlined the first Taste of Chaos festival, and toured with Green Day. In 2005, the band headlined the Vans Warped Tour.

After shows in Japan in August 2004, Matt Pelissier was replaced by Bob Bryar. The reason for Matt's departure was the frequent mistakes he made during concerts, which caused him to constantly clash with Ray Toro. In early 2005, the band took part in the Taste of Chaos tour and also opened for Green Day on their American Idiot tour. They later performed around the country with Alkaline Trio and Reggie and The Full Effect. In the same year, My Chemical Romance and The Used jointly recorded a cover version of the David Bowie and Queen hit “Under Pressure”, all proceeds from the sale of which went to charity.

On March 21, 2006, MCR released a DVD entitled Life on the Murder Scene. It includes a diary of the band from its early days to the present, live performances, and a never-before-seen song, "Desert Song."

In October 2006, My Chemical Romance's third album, The Black Parade, was released, produced by Rob Cavallo, known for his work with Green Day.

The first single from The Black Parade album, "Welcome To The Black Parade", was first performed at the MTV Awards and took the leading position on the UK singles chart on October 15, 2006. The album itself was released and went on sale in the second half of October 2006.

The album debuted at No. 2 on the UK chart, behind Robbie Williams' new album Rudebox, and at No. 2 on Billboard's The Billboard 200, behind the soundtrack to the Disney television show Hanna Montana. The album sold 240,000 copies in its first week in the United States.

In February 2007, the group went on a world tour, and during the year three more singles were released - “Famous Last Words”, “I Don’t Love You” and “Teenagers”. In the same year, the group visited Russia.

In July 2008, the group released their DVD - the creation of The Black Parade is Dead!. as the final chord of the patient's life. The record included 2 concerts, one of which was filmed in Mexico. Afterwards, the group went on vacation and promised fans a new album by the summer of 2009.

Not long ago, another Venganza live (Revenge in Spanish) was released, containing on a bullet-shaped USB drive 9 never-before-seen videos from the tour from the time of the second album.

My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Briar left the band in March 2010. Briar's departure, which was rumored several weeks ago, was confirmed by the band's guitarist Frank Iero.

"4 weeks ago My Chemical Romance and Bob Briar parted ways," he posted on the official website. “This was not an easy and painful decision for all of us. We wish him the best of luck in his future plans and think our fans will support us in this as well.”

On November 22, 2010, the album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys was released.

It was again produced by Rob Cavallo. Stylistically, MCR moved away from their usual dark image, the new record is a mixture of rock and roll, disco and modern rock.

The first single, "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)", foreshadowing the album, was released on September 28, 2010. It was followed by the Internet single “The Only Hope For Me Is You” on October 12, available for download from iTunes. The third single was the song "Sing".

During late 2012 and early 2013, ten B-sides from the Danger Days album, recorded in 2009 under the name Conventional Weapons, were released.

On March 22, 2013, the band announced their disbandment on their website. The boys said the previous 12 years had been a blessing to them, but all good things must come to an end.
