The rack ceiling in the bathroom is a functional, stylish and simple solution. Slatted ceilings are easy to install, resistant to moisture, retain their original appearance for up to 15 years. Shades and types of textures are diverse, there are attractive combinations for every taste. In this article I will talk about how to choose slats for a particular room, using their advantages to the fullest.

How to get started?

The rack ceiling is installed during the finishing work last. When the floor and walls are decorated, you can proceed with its installation.

This process will be short and "clean", except that a small amount of dust is formed when the frame is installed along the perimeter of the walls.

Before buying materials, consider:

After answering these questions, sketch out a design diagram, and proceed to the choice of color and other parameters of the rails. According to the scheme, you can calculate the amount of materials. Now you have a clear vision of what the bathroom ceiling will look like, and an estimate for the purchase of all construction details.

The choice of rails for the ceiling

The progenitor of rack structures was the usual lining, which has been used in interior decoration for many years. Suspended rack ceiling is a frame around the perimeter of the room with many long elements laid in series. The choice of these elements hides the main difficulty for the owner of the bathroom.

Rail parameters important to consider:

  • The type of connection between them.
  • Product material.
  • The width of the line.
  • Glossy or matte finish.
  • Absence or presence of perforations.

Now rails are sold with any combination of these parameters. Finding the right materials will be easier if you know what dimensions, surface texture and type of connection are right for you.

Connection type

By type of connection, they are:

  • open;
  • closed;
  • with intermediate inserts.

For the open type, products are produced with edges rounded on the sides. They are stacked next to each other, between them there is a small gap. Such gaps are useful in that in a room with poor ventilation, they help air circulation and remove excess moisture.

When installing a ceiling with an open type of rail connection, special attention should be paid to the moisture-proof insulation of electrical wires and lighting elements. If the bathroom is small, without high-quality ventilation, moisture will accumulate behind the hinged surface.

Closed slats have a protrusion "lock" on one edge and are fastened together. They form a continuous canvas, on which joints can be practically invisible. This option is good for small rooms with low walls, as a solid canvas visually occupies a smaller volume of the room.

If intermediate inserts are provided between the panels, they will also form a continuous sheet. The gaps allow micro-ventilation, but do not significantly affect the humidity. However, interstitial inserts provide more opportunities for decoration.

Material

The basis for rack panels can be:

  • aluminum;
  • steel;
  • plastic.

Regarding the improvement of the bathroom, we can safely draw conclusions about which material is the most functional in operation. So, steel is definitely not the best solution for a bathroom.

Steel is cheaper than aluminum, has good rigidity, and provides a high level of sound insulation. But steel is subject to corrosion, and even the best paint and varnish coating will not save it from rust in 2-3 years.

Plastic does not rust, cheaper than other materials. However, it is more fragile, over time, dents may appear on it after a careless change of lighting fixtures or too active cleaning.

Aluminum slatted ceiling

Aluminum products have many advantages, and only one drawback - they are more expensive than steel and plastic ones. I'll list the advantages:

  • combination of lightness and strength;
  • resistance to corrosion, fungal infections;
  • ease of care;
  • durability.

Aluminum rack structures remain attractive for 10-15 years, they do not change color, do not crack, and are resistant to minor impacts and pressure. That is, they will not be damaged during minor repairs or cleaning. In addition, dust practically does not settle on them, so all care for such a surface consists of wiping with a damp sponge every few months.

Aluminum parts are very light, a square meter of construction can weigh about 1.5 kg, with such a weight the frame can be easily mounted on any wall. At the same time, aluminum is fire resistant and provides good sound insulation. And aluminum suspended structures look respectable, modern.

Rail dimensions

The length of the panels is 3-4 meters, they are easily cut to the desired size. The thickness of aluminum products is usually 0.6 mm, they are flexible, suitable for installing multi-level ceilings and levels with complex shapes.

But the width can be from 9 to 20 cm. This size is important for the design of the room, as narrow slats visually stretch the room in one direction.. Therefore, with their help, you can make the proportions of a narrow room more comfortable by placing the slats perpendicular to the length of the room. Wide panels emphasize the spaciousness of a large bathroom.

Gloss or noble matte?

Glossy ceilings visually increase the volume of the room, fill it with light due to reflection, increase the height of the walls. This solution will be good for a small bathroom, or a room with low walls.. Gloss goes well with modern interior styles, such a design can decorate a room with a laconic design and minimal decor.

But on glossy surfaces, the accumulation of steam, stains from it, and any splashes are better visible. If the room is poorly ventilated, it will be equipped with an open shower, then regular cleaning of the glossy surface will be required.

Matte products look discreet, with them you can create classic or delicate compositions. Such a ceiling does not distract from other decorations of the room, sets off the beauty of the lamps, helps to tune in to relaxation, to relax. But the matte surface will emphasize the height of the room and its parameters, so it is more suitable for a spacious bathroom.

The matte finish gives a feeling of warmth and comfort. It is easier to care for it, because on such a surface the accumulation of steam or minor water splashes is practically not noticeable. However, it looks simple, and will not be in harmony with bright decorative touches, expensive products.

Perforated and solid slats

Perforation in the form of many small holes on the surface of the lath is of particular importance in the bathroom. If the room is poorly ventilated and small in size, then perforation helps moisture rise above the level of the suspension system and settle on the plaster, partially absorbed. Due to this, the accumulation of moisture on the surface can be avoided, and the feeling of humidity can be slightly reduced.

However, such a solution requires high-quality antifungal surface treatment before installing rails, strengthening the moisture-proof layer of electrical wiring hidden behind a hinged structure.

But behind the perforated surface, you can hide the air ducts of the climate system of the housing, thereby eliminating excess moisture.

Perforations can become a decoration of the room, for a modern style this is a great move. But for rooms with a low ceiling, with a classic interior or a very small area, such a surface is not suitable.

Smooth panels are easier to work with and have a more versatile design. However, with a solid canvas, you need to pay more attention to the ventilation of the room, planning it before installing the ceiling.

Lighting features

It is with the choice of fixtures that the planning of all work begins. For slatted ceilings, built-in spotlights are used, which can be of different sizes, provide for the use of different types of light bulbs.

Bulb type used:

  • incandescent lamps;
  • glow plugs;
  • halogen;
  • LED;
  • luminescent.

Light bulbs differ in power, energy consumption, level of luminous flux. Modern bulbs give lighting close to natural, have a low level of energy consumption. I will not dwell on a detailed description of the options, this is the topic of a separate article.

However, only after choosing fixtures with suitable lamps, you can begin to calculate their number.

Based on the needs of the room in the amount of light and the indicators of specific light bulbs, you can calculate how many lamps will be needed. A good lighting store will help you calculate the area of the bathroom and the height of the walls.

When the number of lighting points and the required installation height are calculated, you need to draw a diagram of their location. Here you can either turn to the designer for help, or independently figure out where the lamps should be. The electrical wiring is laid in special cable channels before the installation of suspension elements.

When assembling the ceiling, it will be necessary to cut holes in the rails to fit the width of the fixtures, taking into account the lighting scheme. Therefore, it is especially important to ensure that the lighting points do not end up at the junction of two levels.

Advice

Try to arrange the fixtures so that each one is either exactly in the middle between two panels, or in the center of one. To make this possible, the width of the selected rails must be known before drawing up the lighting scheme.

bathroom slatted ceiling design

In order to choose "your" design, it is worth considering three main parameters:

  • The color of the elements.
  • The complexity of the design.
  • The direction of the rails.

The beauty of a slatted ceiling is that no matter how complicated its design may seem, installation remains quite simple. Therefore, you can safely choose any option you like and bring it to life.

Color of visible structural elements

When buying rails, you can find an incredible number of their colors.. There are even quite a few shades of white, from snow white to milky. Often there are metallic shades, from golden to steel. Less often you will see gray , beige , black . But if you wish, you can even find yellow, red, green slats.

Different colors can be combined by using two shades of panels and laying interstitial inserts of a different tone. I want to talk about the most common combinations that have proven their viability in real life more than once.

White color

A simple white ceiling is good because it goes well with any wall and floor finishes, visually increasing the amount of space a little. The versatility of this solution cannot be overestimated. Moreover, you can make both a seamless canvas and with inter-rail inserts of different shades.

Popular inserts of metallic shades:

  • chromium;
  • silver;
  • steel;
  • gold.

This decor looks bright, but goes well with plumbing elements, can participate in different compositions. However, the effect of volume that occurs when moving from white to darker stripes is only suitable for rooms with ceilings of at least 2.7.

Contrasting solutions

If bright tiles are used in the bathroom: red, orange, green, blue, then interstitial inserts of the same shade on a white background look spectacular. Such experiments within the framework of the modern style allow you to make the bathroom interesting without unnecessary decor, breathe life into it.

White inserts look unusual on a dark or mirror, steel background. White visually levels the glare surface, facilitates the design, preventing the ceiling from looking gloomy. With their help, you can emphasize the height of the walls.

In complex structures at different levels and even in the same plane, two different basic shades can converge. Combinations look good:

  • white with silver;
  • white with gold;
  • white with steel;
  • black and chrome.

For a large bathroom, you can use all the colors of the rainbow, complementing them with white. Contrasting combinations need a designer's consultation, since it is difficult to choose the right amount of two different colors on your own.

Soft color combinations

Light, muted shades of any color can be combined with a white base or light interstitial inserts. Mint, olive, beige, blue, lilac ceilings look beautiful, match the modern, classic style. You can experiment more boldly with them, since soft transitions from light tones to white are not striking.

Combinations of different shades of gray, black with dark gray, also look calm. An unusual dark ceiling with the union of two shades looks more voluminous, more interesting. A soft transition here provides a visual lightness of the design.

The use of complex structures

The slatted suspended ceiling can be multi-level, if the height of the room allows. The frame for such a design is not much more complicated than a single-level one, but the design becomes more interesting. In addition, a two-level solution allows you to close the bulk of communications, or layout flaws.

In a spacious bathroom, with the help of two levels, you can visually divide the room into domestic and procedural parts. You can experiment with lighting by laying light sources between levels (for example, using LED strips).

The second level can go in a "wave", can have strict geometric shapes. But an important issue in its formation will be the location of the rails relative to the first level. So, the slats of both levels can go in the same direction, if the shape of the room is rectangular, and it is necessary to visually expand it.

But there are options where the rails of two levels run perpendicular to each other, or even at a certain angle .

It is important to be careful not to get a sense of chaos and disharmony instead of an unusual composition.

The direction of the rails

The easiest option is to lay the panels in one direction. As a rule, laying is carried out in width so as not to create the effect of a narrow room. However, you can safely compose more complex compositions.

One of the most common ceilings in the bathroom is the slatted ceiling. Suspended structures do an excellent job with their decorative functions of exterior decoration. The installed frame is functional, it hides the flaws of the ceiling walls, communications: electrical wiring, ventilation elements, lighting elements are mounted in the ceiling structure.

The room in the bathroom is characterized by high humidity and temperature changes. Slatted ceilings in the bathroom, made of resistant, durable materials, do an excellent job with such conditions and last for many years.

This short review will describe the materials and designs of slatted ceilings, their pros and cons.

Advantages of rack ceilings

Slatted ceilings covered with protective coatings are resistant to water. They do not deteriorate with constant high humidity and in case of leaks from the upper floors. Suspensions made of galvanized steel are not resistant to external influences, but if desired, they can be coated with protective paint.

Slatted ceilings in the bathroom mask defects and communications located under the ceiling: ventilation, electrical wiring for lighting and water pipes. At the same time, such a ceiling is easily disassembled, providing the necessary access to communications.

Installing lighting elements in a slatted bathroom ceiling is not difficult. They fit in easily and look organic. Typically, spotlights are used, evenly distributed over the area.

Such ceilings have affordable prices, a huge selection of colors and sizes, the installation of a slatted ceiling is easy to do with your own hands and it requires minimal maintenance, despite its long service life. It is enough to wipe it once a year with a damp cloth.

Varieties of rack ceilings

The manufactured designs of rack ceilings differ not only in shapes and sizes, but also in the materials used for manufacturing. There are only three main structural materials: wood, aluminum and plastic. To help you select the most appropriate material for a given space, describe the strengths and weaknesses of each material.

Wood used to be the only material for ceiling finishes, before the advent of plastic and aluminum at affordable prices. The tree has both positive and negative sides.

The positive aspects include natural aesthetic properties and good sound insulation. The negative sides are low fire resistance, high cost, susceptibility to moisture and leaks, the need to use protective compounds.

Suspended ceiling made of aluminum has a large list of positive properties. First of all, this is its durability, fire resistance, inertness to moisture and ease of installation.

The aluminum ceiling is easily mounted in the bathroom with your own hands. With their help, you can realize a different design of slatted ceilings in the bathroom, due to the fact that they are produced in various colors and sizes, decorated with various decorative images and patterns.

The main and only drawback of such structures is the high price. Such a ceiling is expensive, but can pay off over time due to the possibility of long-term use.

Plastic ceilings are the easiest to install, have a lower cost and are very easy to install. It can be done independently with your own hands without hiring employees.

The disadvantages include the following properties: shorter service life, flammability, lower strength and less variety of colors of the material. This is due to the fact that it is easier to apply a variety of colors to metal, unlike plastic.

Often, plastic ceilings come in a standard white color with small decorative elements, such as gold stripes.

Installation of river ceilings

Before performing work, it is necessary to consider the design of the ceiling. After studying the photo of the slatted ceilings in the bathroom, you can choose your own individual design and achieve an incredible effect by playing with the location, pattern and texture of the slats.

Installation does not depend on the materials used. Aluminum, steel and plastic elements are attached in a similar way. It is most advisable to install the ceiling at the end of the renovation of the bathroom, after the repair of the floor and walls.

The most difficult and critical stages are the installation of a horizontal guide profile along the perimeter of the ceiling and the fastening of hangers. It is necessary to ensure that the guide profile is horizontal, it can be inclined to the concrete plastered ceiling, as it happens that the ceilings are not plastered evenly, not horizontally.

Installing the rails in the profile and fastening them to the suspensions is not difficult. To save material, it is necessary to determine in advance the future direction of the rails. It determines the location of the guide rails, which must be installed perpendicular to the future ceiling rails.

A more time-consuming operation is the installation of lighting fixtures. With a slatted ceiling, spotlights are best combined than a pendant chandelier.

For the installation of fixtures, it is necessary to bring the wiring to the planned installation sites for the lamps and cut accurate and accurate holes for them in the rails. After mounting the rails around the perimeter of the ceiling, a decorative plinth can be installed.

Thus, the installation of a rack ceiling is not difficult, it can be done on its own. Its main advantages are durability and beauty. The harmoniously matched design of the bathroom ceiling is sure to please its owner.

Photo of the slatted ceiling in the bathroom

Choosing the right materials for the ceiling in the bathroom is not such an easy task. A bath is a place of high humidity, not every coating can withstand such a pressure. Slatted ceilings not only look beautiful, but are also able to withstand large amounts of water without damage. Therefore, below we will analyze how to mount a slatted ceiling in the bathroom.

Before installing this or that type of ceiling, you need to figure out what types of material it is made of. Rails for structures are made of three types of material: wood, PVC and metal. The use of wood in the bathroom is quite absurd, so we do not take this material into account, but the rest are fine.

Plastic rails. PVC materials are very often used in bathroom renovations. Performance characteristics allow it to be installed anywhere, it does not spoil the overall look and is cheap. It is easy to work with, which means you can perform the installation operation yourself. Caring for such a ceiling will be easy and simple. The modern market offers a wide selection of different colors and patterns.

But plastic has some downsides as well. He is short-lived. For some reason, many people think otherwise. Probably due to the fact that it decomposes for a long time, but this does not affect its service life in any way. Plastic quickly loses its attractive appearance, is afraid of strong mechanical influences. It may be cheaper, but think, you have to change the ceiling about once every 5 years, which negates the savings. Of course, you can live with yellowed, cracked ceilings. But here the choice is yours.

Metal rails. They are made from two types of alloys: aluminum and steel. Aluminum ceilings are indifferent to water, high temperatures. The service life is very long. It will fit well into a small room, as the mirror surface will visually expand the space. The only drawback that can be found does not even relate to the material itself, but to the type of construction. Suspended ceilings always take a few centimeters in height. Although for aluminum this is not such a big minus due to the mirror surface, as mentioned above.

Steel rails. It is identical to aluminum in its shortcomings and advantages, but the price will be more expensive. Stainless steel is used, and this greatly increases the price of the design. But nothing can kill steel ceilings. Whatever you do with them, steel is steel.

Also, the slats are divided in appearance. There are no color restrictions. You can choose any. With and without drawing. But the coverage is different.

Mirror. Such ceilings will visually expand the space by half. But not everyone likes such a coating in the bathroom, so think before you choose.

Glossy. More moderate gloss than a mirror. When choosing such a surface, it is better not to choose powerful lamps. The gloss will reflect all the light.

Matte and semi-matte. More moderate design. Such ceilings do not shine and do not shimmer, they create more comfort.

In terms of dimensions, the rails have standard sizes: 3 cm, 4 cm and 6 cm length. Width from 25 mm to 400 mm.

Rails differ in the type of connection with the guide (in the shape of the panels). There are three types: Strict straight slats in the form of the letter P. Round slats with rounded walls. And an adjacent type in the form of the letter P, but with rounded edges.

And the last type of difference is the type of connection. Open: slats in the form of the letter U, after laying the gaps at the joints are closed with special slats. The closed connection lays the slats according to the lining principle. Gapless. No additional slats are needed and there will be no distance between the rails.

Advantages and disadvantages of a rack ceiling

Above, we have already considered what materials the slats are made of, but since PVC is not the best material for a bathtub, then we will mainly talk about aluminum ceilings.

The rack ceiling masks all the flaws.

The suspended structure does not require additional finishing of the ceiling, all that is needed is to treat it with an antifungal compound so that mold does not form under the structure. Aluminum itself is not subject to rotting, does not oxidize.

Its service life exceeds 15 years.

Taking care of him is easy. If there is a stain somewhere, just wipe it with a rag. Although it is not the cheapest option for finishing, installation is quite simple. You can install a slatted ceiling in the bathroom with your own hands.

In terms of design, it will suit almost any style. Designers are now creating beautiful multi-level structures from slats, and a slatted ceiling allows you to bring all your fantasies to life.

Despite all the advantages, there are still a number of small disadvantages.

If one of the slats is deformed for some reason, the entire structure will have to be disassembled to the desired slat. This is unlikely, but still a minus.

The appearance of such structures is not distinguished by "warmth". For a bathroom, this is not such a minus, but not everyone likes rooms that are cold in appearance. Correctly selected lighting and other interior items will help add a touch of comfort.

Installation of rack ceilings

The rack ceiling for the bathroom is installed in several stages, but first it is necessary to carry out preliminary work.

An important stage in the installation of any ceiling structures is measurements. They must always be produced before purchasing the material. The definition of "by eye" will greatly disappoint you later. Measure the length and width of the ceiling with a tape measure. Before purchasing, you also need to measure the volume of all lighting fixtures. All wires must be brought to the points where the fixtures will be installed.

In order to calculate how much material you need, add the length and width and multiply by 2. This number determines the length of the frame. To calculate the area, multiply the length by the width, and then divide the resulting number by the area of \u200b\u200bthe slats. Add about 20 percent of the total to this number, since damage may occur in the process of work or the length is not what you need.

After that, mark with a marker or pencil. Decide how many centimeters from the ceiling the structure will be located. The distance is based on the width of the fixture body. Since spotlights are most often placed in the bath, the required distance is about 5 cm. If the body is wide, then you need to step back more.

Use a tape measure to find the lowest corner. The countdown of the required distance and the beginning of the installation comes from this point. Draw an installation line around the entire perimeter of the walls.

After that, the turn of the purchase of materials. We have already talked about different types of designs above, so choose which one suits you. For installation you will need:

  • aluminum rails;
  • starting profile;
  • suspensions;
  • stringer.

In addition to materials, you will also need tools, so if you don’t have enough, buy more.

  • perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • metal scissors;
  • dowels and screws.

Now it's time for the actual installation. The first step is to install the frame. Attach the supporting profiles to the wall, and make markings for the holes. The distance between the holes is approximately 50 cm. Drill holes, and then fix the profile on the screws.

The next step is attaching the hangers. The approximate distance between them is 100 cm, the very first one should be located no further than 30 cm from the wall. Mark the location of the holes and drill holes. Fasten the hangers with self-tapping screws and bend the edges. The design must be even, so after installing some elements, check the evenness with a level. Bearing rails are installed on self-tapping screws perpendicular to the suspension at the level with the profile. The frame is ready, then the rails themselves are already installed.

Install the rails carefully, as they are the front side. Remove the protective film from the rails. On some slats at the back, mark the place for the lamps and cut out the holes. If you need to shorten the rails, you can use a hacksaw. The length should be 1 cm shorter than the distance between the walls. Often the walls and ceilings in apartments are uneven. Never cut all planks at once. Customize each rail in length separately, this will save you from unpleasant surprises and do not have to throw out the damaged bar.

Insert the first rail all the way, you will hear a click. Depending on the type of slat engagement, you may need additional slats. If they are necessary, then install them alternately with the rails. If not, then the slats are inserted into tight to each other. Fill the entire ceiling like this.

As work progresses, install the fixtures in place, connecting them to the wires. Then check if they work. The ceiling is ready.

If you ever need to dismantle the ceiling, then simply remove 1 strip from the mount.

The frame is removed by unscrewing the screws. And if you are going to make some non-standard designs, then the profiles for the rails are installed in the same direction. Those. if their location is diagonal, then the profile is set in the same position.

Slatted ceilings in various interiors

Slatted ceilings can be used in several colors, this will dilute the interior and make it more interesting. But choose colors so that they harmonize with the overall colors of the design. Those. what color prevails in the room should also prevail on the ceiling.

Two-level ceilings look unusual and spectacular. But be careful with the choice of multi-level structures with an abundance of details, such ceilings significantly reduce the height, if you have low ceilings, you should not experiment.

For those who are not afraid to experiment with the interior, there are interesting design solutions with a combination of different materials. The photo below shows rack ceilings in combination with stretch ceilings.

The mirrored ceiling is the most common type, thanks to which they are widely known. Gives the room a sparkle, and in combination with the right lighting will make your bathtub simply shine.

Depending on the geometric shape of the bathroom, the slats will look different. So, for example, in a square room it will be more effective to place the slats diagonally, and in a rectangular room along.

Slatted ceiling in the bathroom: 5 efforts, after which your family will proclaim you a "great master with golden hands"

The slatted ceiling in the bathroom is no longer an “overseas” novelty, but a quite popular and effective option for updating the interior, which will surely please you and your loved ones. But for this, you will first need to show some effort when performing installation work. I will acquaint you with them in detail, based on my own experience.

Reasons for popularity

Such an interesting method of arranging the ceiling came to us back in those very nineties, along with a craving for the so-called "European-style repairs". The first sets of aluminum slatted ceilings were straight from Germany, which was strikingly reflected in their cost in the direction of a fabulous increase.

Therefore, this method of finishing did not immediately become popular, although it showed itself from a very good side, demonstrating the following positive aspects:

  • High moisture resistance, which is the initial requirement for bathrooms;
  • No tendency to ignite. Of course, on the one hand, we are talking about a room in which the probability of a flame occurring is very low, but on the other hand, firstly, an increase in the level of fire safety is never superfluous, and secondly, no one forbids the installation of a rack structure, for example, in the kitchen, where incombustibility is becoming much more relevant;

  • Resistance to temperature changes. That is, for a country house that you do not visit and, therefore, do not heat in winter, the type of finish in question is also completely suitable;
  • High strength parameters. On the head at the most inopportune moment will not collapse;
  • Has a dust repellent coating. Plus to the content of cleanliness;
  • Environmental friendliness, which is also quite important for the place where water procedures are taken;
  • Ease of maintenance, during which you can use any household chemicals;
  • Easy Installation, easy to do by hand. This is what we will discuss below in more detail;
  • Aesthetic appearance that fits into almost any interior design;

  • Ability to mask communications. All wiring is perfectly placed behind the rails.

Today's price is also became much more accessible due to the presence of domestic production:

The only drawback is the feature of all suspended ceilings, which is that after installing the entire structure the room will become 50-150 mm lower.

If you want to visually compensate for the decrease in the height of the ceiling, then I recommend purchasing chrome-plated models that can easily “stretch” the room up due to the mirror effect.

You have probably already noticed that we are talking about aluminum. And you may have a perfectly reasonable question, why not make a plastic rack ceiling? After all, it would certainly be cheaper. The fact is that a plastic rail can simply bend under its own weight, and only metal can provide sufficient strength.

Getting Started

Before you install a slatted ceiling in the bathroom, you need to put in the effort to complete some preparatory steps:

Effort #1: Measurements

This is a very short point, but I definitely want to focus on it, because, without knowing the size of the ceiling in your bathroom, it makes no sense to go to the store for materials. No, of course, you can go and skimp, estimating the area of the room “by eye”, but in this case, there will almost certainly not be enough rails, or there will be extra ones.

Both situations are quite unpleasant, so pick up a tape measure, climb onto a stepladder and take all the necessary measurements in advance.

Effort #2: Shopping

After I found out the exact area to be closed with slats, I went shopping. And the first thing I had to choose from was what the finished structure would look like:

  • Closed. In this case, all the planks are installed close to each other, which, as a result, resembles a wooden lining. This option seemed boring to me and I immediately discarded it;

  • Open. In this case, a gap remains between the products, which, again, is completely unsuitable for the bathroom. Typically, such a design can be observed in rooms where the ceiling height exceeds five meters;

  • With inserts. And this is exactly what you need for the bathroom. Here, as in the previous version, there are gaps, only they are closed with special beautiful inserts that perfectly complement the overall design of the structure.

I settled on the last option. Its package includes the following items:

When purchasing materials, do not forget about self-tapping screws and dowels. If you don’t have them on the farm, then be sure to buy them, they will be needed during installation work.

The range of panels is quite large, and it is very important to choose the right size. Here's how I approached the issue:

  • Length. The standard is 300-400 cm. There is nowhere to go, and if, according to the measurements taken, you do not need such long products, you will have to shorten them with a hacksaw;

Sometimes stores themselves offer a service for cutting sections, in which case I recommend using the offer, as this will greatly simplify the entire installation process. For example, I did just that.

  • Width. Standard - 9-20 cm. For a small bathroom the best option are ten-centimeter samples, which look in such tightness the most organically. If you have a spacious bathroom, then you can experiment with wider planks, but I don’t advise you to get carried away in this direction, so as not to spoil the overall interior;
  • Thickness. Half a millimeter is ideal, which guarantees the stability of the rail, eliminating the possibility of sagging, and at the same time allows it to remain elegant and light.

Well, what color to choose, decide in accordance with the rest of the bathroom interior.

Do not under any circumstances buy products without a protective film, as their coating will most likely be damaged during transportation. And in general, this is a sign of low quality product.

Effort #3: Preparing the Tools

To complete all the necessary work, I needed the following supplies:

Effort No. 4: installing the frame

The fastening of the rack ceiling in the bathroom itself began with the installation of the frame:

  1. Before assembling load-bearing structural elements, I took care of the electrical wiring. To do this, he spread the wires to the points where he planned the installation, and tied them up so that they would not interfere with further work. I also advise you to complete this step in advance;

  1. Then he stepped back from the ceiling 150 mm and, using the spirit level, drew a straight horizontal line around the perimeter of the entire room;

If the installation of the rack ceiling is carried out in a spacious bathroom or even in another room, then I recommend renting a laser level. With it, the markup will be applied much faster and more accurately.

  1. Along the marked lines with a perforator made holes in the wall with a step of 50 cm, which I then filled with dowels. Here you may also need a hammer if the plastic cylinders become tight;

If the walls in the bathroom are tiled, as is often the case, then do not forget to use a special drill. Otherwise, you risk damaging the lining.

  1. Marked guide profiles, then cut them off and drilled;

  1. Before attaching them, I once again checked the correspondence of all holes. And only then did he fix it with self-tapping screws using a screwdriver;

  1. now my turn marked the placement of suspensions so that between them there is a gap of 100 cm, and between the extreme fasteners and the wall - 30 cm;
  2. I drilled holes in the ceiling and filled them with dowels;
  3. To the first attached the suspension and fixed it with a self-tapping screw;

  1. Peeled off the edges. The result is a kind of bracket, as shown in the photo:

  1. Similarly, I installed the rest of the fastening elements, having checked the work with a spirit level;
  2. I took the first load-bearing tire, substituted it strictly perpendicular to the suspension at the same level as the nearest guide profile and secured it with self-tapping screws;

  1. I also accurately installed the rest of the traverses. It is very important to create an even structure here, so use the building level at every step and correct all inaccuracies in time.

Effort number 5: installing rails

Now the most important process begins, the result of which you will have to admire for many years. I ran it like this:

  1. Turning to work with slats, removed the protective film;
  2. I carefully marked on the back of the place where there should be holes for lighting fixtures. If you have products of standard sizes, and you did not order them to be cut to fit your bathroom, then you also need to mark up the required lengths;
  3. Inserted the crown into the screwdriver and made seats for LED lamps, also drilling from the back side. You also have to work here with a hacksaw in order to shorten the planks;

  1. Starting from the wall inserted the first rail into the fasteners of the carrier rail until a characteristic click, leading its edges at the same time into the grooves of the guide profiles;
  2. Then he placed at some distance the next bar and installed an insert between them;
  3. Similarly filled the entire ceiling;

  1. I fixed the fillets around the perimeter using a special one. At the same time, corner products should be cut at an angle of 45 degrees so that their joining has an aesthetic appearance;
  2. I connected lighting fixtures to pre-prepared wires and inserted them into the seats, securing them with spring mechanisms. He flipped the switch, checking that the lighting was working;

  1. I called my relatives to applaud the results of my work. Although, to be honest, at first I sat down to rest.

If you are wondering how to disassemble the installed structure, then it will be enough for you to remove the strips from the mounts, and then unscrew the tires themselves with suspensions. That is, dismantling is also not difficult, which can be attributed to the additional advantages of this type of finish.

In general, it was precisely due to the simplicity of the described actions that I did not have a choice: a stretch or rack ceiling, since in the first case, most likely, I would still have to invite specialists, and here even a person whose professional activity is not at all connected with with construction or finishing works.

Conclusion

A slatted ceiling is ideal for a bathroom. It will provide both a modern beautiful design and durability. In addition, with a little effort, you will be able to cope with the installation work yourself, which will not only save the family budget, but also elevate you in the eyes of relatives and friends. The main thing is to be careful and extremely attentive in the process of work, so that the result is worthy.

The video in this article will be able to provide you with a certain amount of additional information regarding the materials presented. If you have any questions on the topic, then ask them in the comments.

All work on the arrangement of the ceiling in the bathroom is carried out last.

In the bathroom, a slatted ceiling would be a good solution. Before installation drawing a diagram of a room, mark where the lamps will be and calculate the required number of wall corner, carrier rail (stringer), suspensions and panels.

The next step is to prepare under the ceiling space, the surface is treated with an antifungal primer or anti-mold solution.

To perform the installation, you need to purchase such materials, and have the following tools:

  • , its kit includes load-bearing combs, a wall profile and slats;
  • suspensions;
  • dowel;
  • perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • water level;
  • building level;
  • scissors or a hacksaw for cutting metal;
  • measuring instruments;
  • marker.
First on ceiling height is marked on the wall, do this with the help of a water level, after which a U-shaped profile is installed.

If you are creating a multi-level ceiling, then the calculations and layout will be more complex.

The distance between the main one will be the envy of what you plan to place there, if only electrical wiring, then 5 cm will be enough, if built-in lights are installed, then this distance is increased.

Apply markings under the bearing combs, the lines are drawn parallel to each other, and in relation to the panels, at a right angle.

Wall profile fixed to the wall in increments of 40-50 cm, after that, according to the marking install suspensions. From the wall, the extreme suspensions should recede by 30-40 cm, and the distance between adjacent elements should be from 1.2 to 1.5 meters.

After mounting the suspensions, on them tires with grooves are fixed.

Stringers should be shorter than the length of the room and not reach it by about 1 cm, this will compensate for their possible expansion.

Panel mounting

You need to cut the panels, keep in mind that they are made a few millimeters shorter than the distance between the supporting profiles. In the grooves of the carrier comb panels are inserted until a characteristic click, which indicates their commit.

It is rare that a whole last panel can be installed, usually it is cut off. To facilitate the installation process, the trimmed panel is mounted penultimate, and the length of the latter is made 14 mm less.

In order to ensure a long service life of the rack ceiling, it is necessary to perform its installation with high quality and properly care for it:

  • plastic and metal panels are not afraid of water, they can be wiped with a damp cloth dampened with a non-abrasive detergent;
  • for the kitchen, aluminum construction is best;
  • metal elements are environmentally friendly, therefore they are used both in residential and non-residential premises;
  • for the kitchen, you need to choose panels with a protective film.

Conclusion

Since the installation of a rack ceiling is simple, any home master can handle it with his own hands. The main thing: follow the instructions, correctly markup and securely fasten the hangers.
