In today's article we will look at an extremely interesting homemade product that will certainly be useful to every homemade product. Namely, today we will look at how to make a jigsaw. This tool is very useful on the farm and it itself very often comes in handy when building any homemade items. Today we will look at one of the cheapest and most accessible assembly options. The homemade product will consist of the cheapest and most accessible materials that you probably have at home, and if not, then you can easily find them in your city, or you can order them from our Chinese friends. In general, the homemade product is very interesting, so let’s not delay with a long introduction, let’s go!

For this homemade product we will need:
- 775 class commutator motor. (these are usually installed on professional RC models).
- Wires
- Some kind of plastic flywheel (large flat gear)
- PVC pipe, the internal diameter of which will be equal to the external diameter of the electric motor
- Angle for PVC pipe
- Jigsaw blade
- Small metal plate
- A small (but thick) board
- Thick wire (or, for example, a bicycle spoke)
- Button
- Power connector
- Power supply (12-24v 1-2A)
- Not a large sheet of laminated MDF panel or plywood

We will also need the following tools:
- Soldering iron
- Solder
- Marker
- Hot-melt adhesive
- Wire cutters
- Pliers
- Round nose pliers
- Cold welding
- Self-tapping screws
- Screwdriver
- Heat shrink
- Drill and core drill (with a diameter equal to the diameter of the engine)

First, we need to select the most important structural element, namely the electric motor. In our case, it should be with a large number of turns (such an engine has a large torque). And also, in order for the homemade product to serve you for a long time, you should take into account that it is desirable that the electric motor shaft rests on bearings, and not on bushings, as is often the case. We also need some kind of flywheel; for this, the author of the homemade product took a large and flat gear that he had.

We put our flywheel on the electric motor shaft, and since the diameter of the internal hole of the flywheel is slightly larger than the diameter of the electric motor shaft, the author of the homemade product decided to strengthen the connection with a small piece of cold welding. This connection turned out to be quite strong and reliable. Then, using a simple soldering iron, we solder two 15cm wires to the contacts of the electric motor and insulate the connection with heat shrink.

After which we will need to take a PVC pipe, the internal diameter of which will be equal to the external diameter of the electric motor. This pipe will serve as both a motor mount for our engine and a handle for our tool. We also need one suitable PVC corner for this pipe.

To begin with, we need to make all the necessary holes in the PVC pipes. Namely, on a long pipe we should make a hole for the button. To do this, use a marker to leave a mark in a place convenient for you and make a through mounting hole for installing the button. And at the corner we should make a hole for installing the power connector (to make a hole, we repeat the same steps as we did with the pipe above).

Then we “press” the electric motor into the PVC pipe that we prepared earlier. Note that the engine must be installed so that there is a minimum gap between the PVC pipe and the flywheel (but the flywheel itself should not touch the pipe).

For the next step we will need to take a jigsaw blade (whichever you plan to use) and a small metal plate. We apply the canvas to the metal plate, as shown below, and trace it around the office using a marker. Then, using wire cutters, we cut out triangles from the metal plate so that we end up with antennae where the blade expands.

We apply the canvas to the plate in the same way as we applied it earlier, and using pliers we bend and press the antennae first, and then bend the plate, as shown below. Next, use round pliers to twist the same “roll” as in the photo (see photo).

The next step we will again need to take a small metal plate. We bend this plate using pliers so that we get a “T” shaped part with a groove inside. Inside the groove itself, the canvas that we previously prepared should move quietly.

After which we will take a small, but wide board with dimensions approximately as in the photo below. Then, in the indicated place (see photo), using a core drill, we make a through hole with such a diameter that a PVC pipe with an electric motor fits securely in it.

We apply another metal plate to the newly made workpiece in the place indicated in the photo. The metal plate should be slightly larger in width and length than the “T” shaped part that was made earlier. Then we apply the “T” shaped part to the plate that is already lying on the board and, having drilled holes, screw these plates to the board using self-tapping screws.

Then we need to take a thick and stiff metal wire or, for example, a bicycle spoke. And from this knitting needle we should make a kind of connecting rod (see photo). This part must connect the blade and the flywheel so that when the flywheel rotates, the blade moves “back and forth.” You should end up with a piece approximately the same as shown in the photo below.

Then we install the “connecting rod” first on the canvas, and then install the PVC pipe with the electric motor in its place (to the board, as in the photo below). And the second “connecting rod” goes into the flywheel hole. By rotating the flywheel by hand, we check the functionality of the mechanism.

Let's move on to the electronic part of the homemade product. Namely, we install the button. We solder one wire from the electric motor to the button, and the second wire is just a 5-6cm piece. We insert the button into its mounting hole and secure it with hot glue. Then, having pushed the wires through the corner, we will install the corner itself on the plastic pipe, as shown below.

Next we should install the power connector. We solder the wires coming from the electric motor and from the button to the connector itself (the wires should be inserted through the mounting hole for the connector), and finally, we install and secure the power connector in its place using hot glue.

We insert a piece of the same PVC pipe to the second end of the corner. The length of the pipe should be such that when we place the structure on the table, the handle itself should be exactly parallel to the table. After which we will need to take some small sheet of laminated MDF panel or plywood, the main thing is that it glides well over the surface. From the panel we took you, we cut out a similar blank as in the photo below and connect it to our mechanism using hot glue, and in the place where it connects to the wood, we fix it with self-tapping screws.

All is ready! As a result, we have a very useful tool that will definitely come in handy in your household! All that remains is to connect the power supply and test it, you can see the homemade test below.

A jigsaw is a tool without which it is now simply impossible to perform many works on processing wood and materials in which it is used. Being compact and light in weight, a handheld portable jigsaw is capable of cutting out products of very complex geometry from a workpiece.

The jigsaw is very convenient to use and also provides very precise and thin cut. If you don’t want to spend money on a purchased jigsaw, you can make your own at home.

The lightest product

The jigsaw table itself can be made with your own hands in a short period of an hour. The advantage of the manufactured design will be its simplicity. It can easily be mounted on a tabletop or workbench and, if necessary, can also be easily disassembled. The disadvantage of a homemade design can be considered its small area.

The simplest product consists of the following parts:

  1. Plywood.
  2. Mounting screws.
  3. Clamps.

The working basis of the machine can be laminated plywood, in which it is necessary to drill holes for installing fasteners and for the saw itself. Plywood must be at least 10 millimeters thick. At the same time, you may also have to make holes in the base of your power tool for mounting screws.

A homemade structure can be attached to the workbench using clamps. Please note that the heads of the screws for fastening must be recessed into the surface of the sheet so that they do not interfere with you while working. Such a machine can easily handle the processing of small workpieces up to 30 millimeters thick. You can easily find a drawing of this type of machine on the Internet, and then assemble it yourself at home.

Another variant

This option consists of the following parts:

  1. Bed made of chipboard.
  2. Tube for vacuum cleaner.
  3. Laminated plywood for the machine cover.
  4. Confirmants.

There is a second option for a stationary device for working with wood material, which is assembled from a larger number of spare parts, but making it will not be difficult. The frame is made of chipboard and consists of a back wall and two sidewalls. To make it easy to get to the power button, the machine has no front wall.

In the back wall you need to do it yourself drill holes for the vacuum cleaner tube and cord. The cover for the machine can be made from laminated plywood 10 millimeters thick. The entire structure can be tightened with confirmants. The jigsaw can be secured in the same way as described above in the first case.

On a machine made according to this option, it is possible to process more massive workpieces, however, when working with a thick workpiece, the jigsaw saw can go in both directions and lean back. At the same time, cutting accuracy deteriorates. This drawback can easily be eliminated with your own hands by installing a bracket on a homemade machine that will serve as a support.

The jigsaw blade will move between two 11mm bearings, which must be screwed to an L-shaped strip made of steel. The back of the saw will rest against the wall of the bracket itself. This design will prevent your jigsaw blade from deviating from the intended path.

The bracket must be attached to the frame, made of 50 by 50 millimeter bars. It can be lowered or raised depending on the length and thickness of the wood being processed. To do this, the frame itself, together with the stop, must not be firmly attached to the side of the machine, but pressed against it with a hardboard, steel or textolite plate. We install a vertical frame post between the hardboard and the frame.

The machine can be more convenient if you mount an additional limit bar on it, with which you can cut the material into workpieces of the same length and thickness.

The limiter is attached to the machine using clamps. His made from wooden beams, aluminum or steel corner. For convenience, you can also install a bar on the slide, which must be secured to the sides or bottom of the tabletop.

Table for a jigsaw made of chipboard

To make this jigsaw table, you must have a certain carpentry skill, since when connecting its frame to the legs, it must be made into a tongue and groove. The tongue and groove itself can be replaced with a connection using dowels, wood glue and self-tapping screws.

The machine cover must be made liftable to facilitate access to the tool when replacing it. In order for the machine to be multifunctional, it is necessary to provide space for mounting a manual milling machine.

The table is assembled from the following materials:

  • block 80 by 80 millimeters;
  • block 40 by 80 millimeters;
  • laminated plywood or chipboard measuring 900 by 900 millimeters.

Measure the distance between the legs, it should be from 60 to 70 centimeters. The bars for the legs and drawers will be obtained if you cut the bars lengthwise 80 by 80 millimeters. You can choose the height of the legs themselves at your own discretion, it all depends on how comfortable it will be for you to perform work on the machine.

At each end of the legs and drawers, it is necessary to drill two holes for dowels. The same holes must be made on the sides of the legs. Coat the dowels with glue half their length and insert them into the ends. After this, assemble the entire frame. It will turn out to be non-separable. After checking and possible corrections, it is tightened tightly.

All surfaces at contact points must be coat with glue. Use self-tapping screws for additional structural strength, which must be screwed through holes prepared in advance for them.

The lid must be attached to one of the drawers using hinges; to do this, a slot must be made in it to facilitate removal and installation of the jigsaw. In the back of the tabletop, you need to screw two strips with a pre-selected quarter into which the sole of the power tool should fit.

Holes must be made in the strips, into which bolts or clamping screws must then be installed. A jigsaw mounted under the tabletop will be able to cut thicker material if a recess is made in the lid for its sole. The easiest way to make this deepening is using a milling machine.

The resulting table will be very simple and spacious, so the necessary strength of its lid can be provided by a large thickness of chipboard or plywood. Use sheets of 20 millimeters or thicker.

Jigsaw using thin saws

Since when cutting complex patterns in plywood, a jigsaw is not well suited for this, you need to take a thin file. It can be attached to a hand-held power tool using the original tool.

We also attach the jigsaw to the tabletop, but the thin file needs to be tensioned, since it will not be enough just set on a pendulum. To facilitate the process of tensioning the file, it is necessary to make a rocker arm from a block.

The tension of your canvas is ensured by a spring. Place its lower loop on the transverse pin. The upper loop must be inserted into the adjusting screw, which changes the tension force of the damper. All wooden blanks for a homemade machine are made from hard wood.

Since a jigsaw machine does not have the ability to fasten a blade with a thin section, you can remake a piece of an old saw by first drilling a hole in it and adding a screw with nut and clamping plate.

A vertical slot must be made in the rocker arm into which a second steel plate must be inserted. It is attached to the rocker with screws. The upper part of the file must be attached to it in the same way as the lower one. To make it easier for you, you can use scraps from an old jigsaw to make the plates.

A very fast and fairly compact tool, it can be incredibly useful for making straight and curved cuts. The appearance and functionality of the jigsaws sold are impressive, making one believe in the incredible complexity of the design of these devices. In fact, to recreate such a mechanism, it is enough to understand the principle of its operation, have instructions and the desire to do something with your own hands. It is not at all necessary to be an expert in technology with many years of experience (although this quality will not be superfluous). Next, we will conduct a detailed analysis of the average jigsaw model with drawings, and provide two detailed guides for making such a tool yourself.

How does an electric jigsaw work?

Although the device of a jigsaw is not particularly complicated, its mechanism has certain features that require familiarization. To understand how to make a jigsaw, you first need to understand what causes the saw blade to make reciprocating movements. For the clearest understanding of the principle of operation of the device, we will present the main components that make up the mechanism of the instrument and describe their interaction with each other.

The basis of any electric jigsaw is the following components: an electric motor, a gearbox and a rod with a saw blade clamp. Secondary, but no less important elements include the start button, support roller, cooling fan and sole. As additional functionality, many models have a pendulum stroke, a dust collector, lighting and a laser guide. We will not touch upon the operating principle of the latter, and will move on to a description of the interaction of the main elements of the mechanism.

The high-frequency movements of the jigsaw saw blade originate from an electric motor, started by pressing a button or directly from the network. Rotation is transmitted along the shaft to a special “gearbox” mechanism with an eccentric, which interacts with the rod, forming a reciprocating movement. The mount installed at the end of the rod holds the saw that makes the cut. To minimize the load on the rod with the gearbox, the rear edge of the saw blade rests against the support roller. In this way, all components of the device are involved to perform the main task of sawing all kinds of materials.

Electrobolic drawings

A detailed study of any device is much easier when there is a detailed diagram with a description of each element. Thanks to the exact names of parts with dimensions, the general understanding of the principle of operation of the mechanism becomes more clear. Below we have placed several detailed illustrations, since assembling an electric jigsaw with your own hands with detailed drawings is much easier than relying only on your understanding of the design features.

We hope that the presented diagrams will completely clarify your understanding of the structure of such a mechanism and provide useful food for thought in assembling your own jigsaw.

Making a jigsaw with your own hands

For a craftsman who understands the operating principle of a mechanism, it will not be difficult to reproduce it, especially if he has detailed instructions on hand. The bicycle has already been invented, and to make it yourself, it is enough to have a set of necessary parts and tools. The guide below will demonstrate in detail how to make a jigsaw with a complete listing of the elements and tools required for the job. The product being created is not a stationary device, but a mobile saw with an electric drive. The device has not much power, but it is enough to cut wood up to 5 mm thick.

Required materials:

  • Wooden block - 150x75x25 and 75x25x25 (width, height, thickness in mm)
  • Metal plates – long and rectangular (as in the photo)
  • Jigsaw blade with U-shank
  • Electric motor RS-540 12V (any similar one can be used)
  • Circuit closing button
  • Gas stove nozzle
  • Bicycle spoke
  • Plastic circle with a diameter of 260 mm
  • Plywood - 120x50x5
  • Set of self-tapping screws, bolts and nuts
By instruments:
  • Hacksaw for metal
  • Triangular file
  • Pliers (2 pcs)
  • Screwdriver or drill with a set of drills
  • Metal scissors
  • Pencil
When collecting materials, it is important to understand that the above components do not claim absolute accuracy and can be replaced with similar ones. When making a homemade jigsaw for cutting, you should be guided by the presented manual, but do not forget about ingenuity and improvisation. If the specified element cannot be found, you can always replace it with something.

Assembling the jigsaw will begin by cutting out the handle from a larger block. To do this, just cut it, giving the rectangular board an L-shape, as in the photo. The dimensions of the cut part are set “by eye”, based on the preferences and size of the operator’s hand.

One of the most important components of the device, which serves as a movable rod and a saw blade clamp, requires increased reliability. This element is made of a long metal strip, 1 mm thick. At the end, trace the outline of the file shank, after which a notch is made with a triangular file to create a pressure plate. Part of the metal strip is bent with pliers along the contour of the shank, after which a file is installed in the improvised mount and a through hole is drilled for additional fixation with a bolt.

The saw blade mounted on the rod must be connected to the device using a guide. This part is made of rectangular metal plates. Using pliers, bend the center of the plate into a flat groove for the rod with side mounting lugs. To prevent abrasion of the wood and facilitate the movement of the saw, we apply a similar piece of metal to the front side of the prepared handle and screw it together with the groove. As a result, the following design should be obtained.

At the end of the rod, we carefully bend the metal until we get a kind of loop into which the end of the crank mechanism lever will be inserted.

We screw the previously sawn-off wooden rectangle to the top. It will serve as a stand for the motor, creating additional space for installing crank elements.

The conversion of engine rotations into reciprocating movements will occur using a simple mechanism made of a round plate, a gas nozzle and a weight-bearing spoke. In the center of the circle, drill a hole with a diameter equal to the threaded part of the nozzle (so that it fits as tightly as possible). Next, install the nozzle in place and fix it with epoxy resin. We put the dried structure on the electric motor shaft. If the nozzle hole is too narrow, you can widen it with a drill of the required diameter. Between the center and edge of the circle, drill another small hole with the diameter of a bicycle spoke.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to find the upgraded gas stove nozzle with a side screw used in the instructions everywhere. If only an ordinary one is available, it can be fixed on the shaft using tin and a soldering iron, as in the photo below.

Having combined the motor with the round plate, it's time to turn it into a real crank. To do this, take a bicycle spoke and use pliers to bite off the curved head and threaded part to form an even metal rod. Next, we retreat 10 mm from one end and bend it at an angle of 90°. We insert the bent part into the previously prepared eye in the rod and lift it up so that the saw fastening screw rests against the metal plate.

The accuracy of the next step is most important, since the amplitude of movement of the saw depends on it. It is necessary to determine the exact location for the second bend of the rod so that the crank and rod connected by it work most efficiently. To do this, we place the engine in the place of the future mounting and place the outermost hole of the circle upward. Next, we bring a rod to the hole, the opposite edge of which is inserted into the eye of the rod raised all the way and mark the place of the bend. We bend it at an angle of 90°, insert it into the hole of the circle and check the functionality of the mechanism. If the crank works as it should, fix the motor in place using a metal plate.

The next structural element will be the installation of a sole, which will also serve as a support for the saw blade. A similar part can be made from ordinary plywood, 5 mm thick. In the center of one of the ends, we make a small cut (20-30 mm) and pass the file of our jigsaw into it. We fix it with a self-tapping screw with a countersunk head.

The final stage will be installing the start button and connecting the wires. The button can be displayed in any place convenient for you. The author considered it necessary to place it on hot glue in the corner of the handle. We create a basic electrical circuit (motor-button-network and motor-network) and connect it to a 12-volt power supply.

For a smoother ride, it is recommended to lubricate the rod with oil.

A more visual demonstration of this instruction, but unfortunately without comments, can be seen in the video below.

Homemade jigsaw for polystyrene

Assembling a fairly convenient and reliable device for cutting thin pieces of wood and polystyrene. This method is almost similar to the previous one, but has a more functional design. There is no need to write a detailed description of how to make this electric jigsaw with your own hands, since the design of the device is similar to the previous assembly. We will provide a complete list of necessary materials and tools for manufacturing.
  • Plywood 200x200x5 mm
  • Wooden block - 120x50x50
  • Spatula or sheet of metal, 1 mm thick
  • Metal terminal for connecting wires
  • Metal rod (spoke)
  • Hacksaw blade
  • Electric motor (DC) 12 volt
  • A piece of thin, flexible plastic
  • Fastening metal corner
  • A piece of PVC pipe as a handle
  • Contact closure button
  • 12 volt power supply with DC plug
  • DC power connector
  • Self-tapping screws, bolts and nuts
The above list of materials is only a subjective choice of the author of the instructions and does not claim absolute accuracy. When you make something with your own hands, you need to improvise and come up with creative uses for various parts. If you don't have an element in stock, perhaps someone else can handle its function.

By instruments:

  • Needle file
  • Metal scissors
  • Pliers
  • Drill or screwdriver with a set of drills
  • Core drill for wood with a diameter of 44 mm
  • Soldering iron
  • Thermal gun
To more clearly understand the process of assembling all of the above elements, watch the detailed video “how to make a jigsaw with your own hands.” Most questions related to the design of the device will disappear by themselves.

There is also another option for making a homemade jigsaw. The operating principle of this product is similar to the previous two; there are some nuances in the design. We hope that the following video will be useful and give you fresh ideas for creating your own instrument.

What to do when you need a jigsaw but don’t need to buy one? You can make a jigsaw with your own hands. There are many ways to make or repair such a tool. Let's look at the simplest and most accessible of them.

Manual jigsaw - simple, fast and affordable

How to make a jigsaw quickly from available and inexpensive materials? Here's the easiest way.

List of tools and materials:

  • plywood sheet (10 mm);
  • plywood sheet (4 mm);
  • steel sheet (2 mm);
  • bolts and nuts;
  • drill;
  • chisel;
  • sanding paper;
  • file.

The base of the manual jigsaw is a bracket; it should be made from a plywood sheet (10 mm). Next, it is recommended to make thickenings for the tool handle from thinner plywood (4 mm). These thickenings must be glued to the handle on both sides, which will ensure more convenient operation in the future. Sand the bracket and handle well using sanding paper and a file. It is necessary to cut out the steel plate with a chisel, and then clean the clamping jaws with a file. After this, drill slots in the jaws with a drill, and then use a sharp chisel to cut notches inside the clamping jaws. In the left clamping jaw, modify the slot for the bolt; for this you need to make a thread. Attach the jaws to the bracket, then screw the bolts into the left clamp, securing them with nuts.

Table jigsaw: two manufacturing options

The desktop fixture can be made either new or by modifying or repairing improvised means.

Making a new benchtop mechanical jigsaw will require the following tools and materials:

  • duralumin pipe;
  • plastic base;
  • clamps;
  • screws;
  • copper sheet;
  • drill.

First you need to prepare the frame; for this purpose it is better to use an aluminum pipe. When making the frame, it is necessary to provide a passage through which the cord will be laid to provide power. A copper sheet should be taken to make a U-shaped frame, which will subsequently need to be attached to the frame itself. At the junction of the frame with the handle of the jigsaw, screw the frame with screws. In the plastic base, use a drill to drill a hole for the file, as well as slots for fasteners. Attach the jigsaw to the prepared plastic so that the file passes through the hole. Using clamps, attach the finished tool to a flat surface, such as a table.

A hand-held device made on the basis of a sewing machine is an ideal option if repairing a sewing machine is not as important as manufacturing such a tool. List of tools and materials:

  • sewing machine (you can use either a foot- or hand-operated model);
  • file;
  • needle file;
  • drill.

After unscrewing the bolts at the bottom of the sewing machine, you should remove the entire threading system. Next, knock out the metal fastening rod and remove the drive shaft of the thread weaving system. The panel covering the sewing machine parts can be easily removed by unscrewing 2 more bolts. Carefully remove the needle. The needle slot needs a little repair - it needs to be widened to accommodate a file. To do this, it is better to cut the hole using a needle file, focusing on the dimensions of the file itself. After this, adjust its size to the maximum possible needle size by cutting off the top of the file. After grinding down the upper teeth with a file and the lower part on the tip, you can proceed to the next step. The prepared file must be placed in the place of the former needle - in the needle holder. After this, you should turn the wheel and check:

  • so that the saw does not come into contact with the panel and the presser foot;
  • so that in the upper position the plywood passes freely under the saw;
  • so that the material can be drawn smoothly.

This jigsaw is suitable for working with materials made of plywood, balsa wood and plastic, and if you use an electric machine, you will get an electric jigsaw.

By making a jigsaw with your own hands, you will not only be able to purchase a practical tool, but also save money: it will be much cheaper than a factory-made analogue, while possessing a full range of functions. A homemade jigsaw will allow you to create products of complex shapes from wood, plastic and other materials, the production of which with hand tools under normal conditions would take a lot of time and effort.

A homemade jigsaw allows you to make cuts of complex shapes.

You should consider the structure and sequence of manufacturing a simple tabletop electric jigsaw, assembly features and the procedure for working with it.

How does a tabletop jigsaw work?

As the name suggests, this tool is designed to be placed on the surface of a desktop or workbench. Compact dimensions allow you to work with a jigsaw both in a workshop or garage, and at home. An electric jigsaw is an indispensable tool for making complex wood decorations, curly carvings on plywood and similar works.

Kinematic diagram of the jigsaw drive.

It is necessary to take a closer look at the structure of a factory-produced desktop jigsaw. This will allow you to understand the main features of the device and apply them in a homemade model.

The components of an electric jigsaw can be divided into 3 parts:

  • movable frame with saw;
  • fixed base;
  • Electrical engine.

The operating principle of the tool is as follows: an electric motor rotates a crank mechanism, which converts rotational movements into reciprocating movements. The movements are transmitted to a movable frame on which the saw is tensioned.

The homemade device works using the same principle. To simplify the design, the movable frame can be replaced with a regular hand jigsaw.

Parts for electric jigsaw

When assembling an electric jigsaw, it is important to find a suitable motor that will drive the working tool - the saw. A motor from a drill, blender, food processor or other equipment of the same type is perfect for this purpose.

It is better to make the jigsaw frame from aluminum pipe.

The movable frame is made of metal profiles, wooden slats or slats made of durable plastic. It is most convenient to work with aluminum tubes of square section, since they are easy to process, have low weight and a significant margin of safety.

To fix the jigsaw in the desired position, you should make a reliable frame for it from wood or metal. The dimensions of the frame do not have much impact on the operation of the jigsaw. They depend only on which version of the tool you need - a compact tabletop or a full-size one installed on the floor.

The jigsaw table is made from a thick sheet of plywood, in which a small diameter hole is made where the file will move (Fig. 2).

A gasket made of elastic material - rubber or leather - is placed between the body and the table, which will dampen vibration.

There is also a simpler option on how to make a homemade jigsaw. It consists in the fact that a hand-held electric jigsaw is mounted in a vertical position on a table-stand, while its file is tensioned to the movable guide bars - levers.

Assembling a table jigsaw

The construction of a homemade jigsaw begins with assembling the body, which can be made of plywood, chipboard or metal. The simplest model of this tool can do without a housing, but in this case strong vibrations occur, which can significantly affect the ease of use. In this case, two holes are made in the jigsaw - one for attaching the crank to the tool, the second for movably fixing the jigsaw itself to the table. After starting the engine, the jigsaw begins to produce reciprocating movements that facilitate sawing of the material.

Such a spring will provide the necessary tension on the jigsaw saw.

A more sophisticated model includes two separate strips with wing nuts installed at the ends. At the opposite end, the planks are pulled together by a strong spring, ensuring constant tension on the saw. Such a device operates from a separate motor or, for example, from a drill.

There is a vertical bar running inside the case, which is fixedly attached to its bottom or one of the walls. Two holes are made in it, the distance between which should be 2-3 cm less than the length of a standard file. Bolts or pins are inserted into the holes, onto which strips are placed that hold the file.

The engine is built into the housing and is attached to the bottom bar by means of a disk with a connecting rod mechanism. A table with a hole for a file acts as a cover for the case.

The main disadvantage of a jigsaw with a separate motor lies in its most intricate part - the crank mechanism. The file with it makes not only vertical, but also oblique movements, which cannot but affect the cutting accuracy. If you need to get a precise tool, then it is better to replace the motor with an inexpensive factory-made manual jigsaw. It is attached under the surface of the body and a file is passed through the table, clamping it with one end in the jigsaw and the other in the upper bar of the structure. This design ensures sufficient cutting accuracy, bringing this parameter closer to factory models.

Advantages of using an electric jigsaw

A jigsaw allows you to make complex cuts very accurately.

Unlike hand tools, an electric jigsaw has clear advantages, including:

  • higher operating speed;
  • the ability to work with two hands, which increases accuracy;
  • safety - with proper organization of work, a stationary tool is much safer, since it cannot break out of your hands.

In addition, making your own electric jigsaw will save money, since factory machines of this type are quite expensive.
