4. Measure 15 cm at the top and bottom and 2.2 cm deep on the vertical sides of the facades. At the marked points, make holes for furniture hinges with a diameter of 3.5 cm.
5. Install the doors and screw the handles.
6. Hang the cabinet at a height of 12-15 cm from the floor so that you can tidy up underneath it. The distance between the bottom and second shelf must be at least 35 cm in order for boots to fit there.

Helpful tip: In rainy or snowy weather, place a tray under the shoe rack to prevent water from dripping onto the floor.

Compact shoe rack

In this chapter we will describe the step-by-step process of creating a very original, miniature and elementary shoe rack. It will suit any interior design, and even children can be involved in the decorating process. Shoes on such a shelf look very neat, and it is simply impossible to create a clutter there.

Even those who have never held carpentry tools in their hands can cope with the creation of such a narrow shoe rack. You don’t even have to ask your neighbor for a hacksaw - just draw up a drawing with the required dimensions and ask them to cut the boards in the same hardware store where you bought them! The only thing you can't do without during assembly is a drill.

To build a compact shoe rack you will need the following tools and materials (we provide dimensions for a design that is suitable for a bachelor or a young couple):

• the simplest long shoe brushes with stiff bristles size 160 x 40 mm – 3— 5 PC(depending on the length of the future shoe rack);
• moisture-resistant plywood 12 mm thick: 1020x 370 mm – 1 PC(A ); 1020x 90 mm – 1 PC(IN ); 1020x 130 mm – 1 PC (WITH) ; 90x 118 mm – 1 PC(D); 1020x 60 mm – 1 PC(E);
• spikes 6 mm – 6 PC;
• wood screws;
• construction wood glue;
• acrylic paint;
• moisture-resistant transparent varnish;
• brush;
• dowels

You can paint a shelf not only with acrylic paints; even ordinary paints will do. gouache, if you then immediately open it with transparent varnish. If you want to avoid varnish, use enamel. And if you like a beautiful wood texture, you can simply cover the shoe rack with clear varnish, slightly tinted with stain.

How to make a shoe rack:

1. Assembly should begin with an element containing brushes. Drill 6 through holes in the edge of the plywood.
   
   
2. Insert six spikes coated with glue into the resulting holes.
   
   
3. In plywood WITH make exactly the same holes, coat it with glue and connect it with plywood B. It would be best to compress these elements with clamps until the glue completely hardens or simply install some kind of weight on them.
   
   
4. Glue the sides of element D to the resulting structure in the same way. After each application of glue, firmly compress the parts to be glued.
   
   
5. Using a wood hacksaw, saw off the handles of the brushes, if any (it is better to immediately buy the cheapest brushes without handles).
   
   
6. Drill 2 through holes in each brush and screw them 1 cm from the edge of the structure with short self-tapping screws so that the caps are on the inside of the brushes.
   
   
7. Make through holes with a drill in the unused parts of elements A and E, as shown in the image below.
   
   
8. Using self-tapping screws, connect all parts of the shelf to the end.
   
   
9. Paint the shoe rack in the desired color or paint it with different colors. In our case, we ended up with a plain, bright green design, but you can ask younger family members to participate in the process or paint the plywood yourself. If you have no talent for fine arts, you can do decoupage or assemble a mosaic.
10. All that remains is to drill holes in the wall for the dowels and hang the shoe rack.
    
    

Shoe rack made of PVC pipes

Finally, we have prepared for you the most unusual and exciting master class on creating (let’s not be afraid of this word) a creative shoe rack for the hallway. With this design, you can always keep your home clean and tidy, and even children will be happy to put their shoes “in the house.”

What is this wonderful shoe rack made of? You will be surprised, but these are the most common sewer pipes made of polyvinyl chloride, which are found in any modern city apartment. They cost much less than high-quality wood or moisture-resistant plywood, but they are characterized by an almost eternal service life and ease of installation.

For one such shoe rack you will need one sewer pipe 300 mm in diameter. The standard length of such a product is 3 m. To make a roomy and deep enough compartment for an adult’s shoes, 30 cm is enough. This means that from one pipe you will get as many as 10 shelves.

Cutting a PVC pipe is not difficult. To do this, you can use a regular hacksaw with a fine tooth. Mark the surface with a marker and divide into 10 equal parts. Every piece of pipe On the one side sand with sandpaper to smooth out rough edges. The second end will be adjacent to the wall, so we need to sand it not at all necessary.

Since such round posts very much resemble stumps or logs, we decided to decorate them accordingly - by making an imitation of birch bark. Of course, you could draw it, but it’s much easier and faster to cover the pipes with wallpaper with a suitable pattern. You can decorate the shoe rack however you like. For a monochromatic “gray” hallway, shelves in bright, saturated colors are suitable; for a modest square, it is better to slightly shade the shoe rack by painting it black or dark brown color. Before painting, it is advisable to degrease the PVC so that the acrylic or gouache lays evenly.

All that remains is to glue all the pieces together with epoxy glue. First, glue 4 pieces horizontally, placing them on a flat surface. For a more secure fixation, press them together with clothespins or clamps, which can be removed after the glue has hardened.

Glue the next 3 blanks onto 4 pipes, and then the rest like a pyramid. In fact, the gluing sequence and the number of pipes in rows can change at your discretion. Epoxy glue is very strong, and if you glue the pipe with it well, it will not fall off even at an angle or when suspended. So this is a great opportunity to get creative.

Types of shoe racks

Shoe racks are usually divided into several types.

A shoe cabinet with a seat is becoming increasingly popular. It may be sold separately or as part of a headset. A distinctive feature of this model is a comfortable soft seat located on top or on the side, which allows you to avoid the use of additional benches and banquettes in the hallway. Such a cabinet will certainly become a bright detail in your corridor.

A shoe rack with a hanger would be an excellent option for a small hallway. You can store not only shoes in it, but also jackets, raincoats, and coats. This model looks especially stylish in white.

Another solution for a small hallway is a narrow cabinet. It’s unlikely to fit all the shoes, but seasonal shoes certainly will.

A wall-mounted shoe rack with folding shelves will look interesting. Usually it is small in size (width does not exceed 25 cm). This model is attached to the wall, which makes it stationary.

An original option for the hallway is a cabinet with a mirror. It can be bought at any furniture store.

All the types described above are classified as closed cabinets. They hide shoes, which are not always beautiful, from prying eyes. The disadvantage is the lack of ventilation, which leads to an unpleasant odor. Drying products equipped with an ultraviolet lamp do not have this disadvantage. Shoes in them are disinfected as they dry.

Open cabinets look like a rack with shelves. This design solution has its pros and cons.

The advantages include:

• constant airing of shoes;
• no need to wash shoes after every walk;
• You don't have to open the doors to get your shoes out.

The downside is the lack of dust protection.

Products made from chipboard or MDF. They are distinguished by a metal frame and practicality.

Models made of natural wood. They have a luxurious appearance, but are not scratch resistant. Their surface is treated with special means that protect the wood from deformation and delamination. Such interior items are much more expensive than their MDF and plastic counterparts.

Furniture made of plastic. They look quite nice. The disadvantages include intolerance to humidity and temperature changes.

Shoe shelves can be of three types:

Type 1. Cassette cabinets

For such models, the door is equipped with one or two spacious drawers, called cassettes. When the door is opened, they slide out. There are horizontal and vertical shoe cabinets. This type of furniture is compact in size, but they can store quite a lot of boots and shoes. This is an ideal choice for small corridors.

• Before purchasing, check whether the magnets are reliable, otherwise the doors will not close well.

They look like a chest of drawers with a large number of shelves closed with doors. They have a larger capacity than cassette cabinets. Shoes can be stored in them directly in boxes. Such models allow you not to mix shoes and boots with other footwear, not to get them dirty, while maintaining a neat appearance.

Type 3. Shoe racks with retractable drawers

This is a great option if there is no other furniture planned in the corridor. In addition to shoes, it can store an umbrella, cosmetics, gloves and other small things.

DIY shoe cabinet

A shoe cabinet can be not only metal or wood. You can easily make it yourself from high-strength cardboard. This product will even withstand storing boots.

You will need:

• sheets of high strength cardboard;
• boxes;
• scissors and glue;
• wide adhesive tape;
• pencil;
• ruler;
• stapler for furniture.

We lay out the sheets of cardboard on a prepared, flat surface, divide them into triangular sections, at least 0.3 m high. Next, we divide the rectangular sheet in half - the result is walls. Seal the edges with adhesive tape.

Then it was the turn of the boxes. We insert them into the grooves and secure them with glue. Using hooks, the resulting structure can be hung on the wall. That's all - the assembly of the cabinet with your own hands is completed.

First, carefully measure the place where the shoe rack will stand. Knowing the right sizes will make it easier to choose.

When choosing a cabinet, it is better to give preference to popular brands. You should not choose the cheapest model. Remember that a quality product must be accompanied by a certificate and a hygienic certificate. An excellent choice would be, for example, IKEA cabinets.

The stability of the shoe rack is very important. Before purchasing, you should pay attention to the reliability of the legs or fastenings (if the product has a suspended structure).

Carefully inspect the cabinet before purchasing - there should be no scratches or chips on it. Check the quality of connections, fittings and retractable devices. Doors must sit securely on their hinges. They should not make a squeak when opening.

A cabinet made of chipboard must have a veneer or special film coating that protects it from mechanical damage and prevents the release of harmful substances. It is optimal if all the drilled holes in the chipboard are also glued.

Carefully examine the handles on the drawers - they must be comfortable. Their resistance to abrasion is also important. If, when you touch the surface of the cabinet with your hand, traces of paint remain on it, then it is better not to buy such a product.

If you want to purchase a cabinet with a seat, you need to make sure that the opening mechanism has no flaws and that the material used for the seat upholstery is of high quality. For a free corner, a corner model is suitable.

If you have not yet purchased furniture for the hallway, then it is best to immediately choose a set with a cabinet. Then the entire environment of the vestibule will look organic.

How to use a shoe rack correctly

In order for your shoe cabinet to please you for a long time, you must adhere to the following rules:

If boots or shoes are wet and dirty, they should not be placed in the shoe rack.

Avoid placing too cold or, conversely, heated shoes in the cabinet. Sudden temperature changes are harmful to the material from which the furniture is made.

Do not place wet or heated things on the surface of the cabinet - they can leave unsightly marks on it, which will later be difficult to remove.
