Package

Compound

The active substance of the drug Famvir is famciclovir. Additional components: hydroxypropylcellulose, sodium starch glycolate, lactose anhydrous, magnesium stearate.

The shell consists of hypromellose, polyethylene glycol 4000, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol 6000.

Release form

The drug is sold in tablets. One package can contain 1-4 blisters. One blister can contain from 3 to 10 tablets.

pharmachologic effect

This drug has an antiviral effect.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, the active substance of the drug is converted into penciclovir, which has an effect on cytomegalovirus, as well as the Epstein-Barr virus and human herpes viruses. It enters infected areas of the body, where it is converted into monophosphate, which turns into triphosphate. Staying in infected cells for more than 12 hours, it prevents the replication of viral DNA. Its content in cells where there is no virus is minimal, so triphosphate does not affect them.

Penciclovir acts against acyclovir-resistant strains of the Herpes simplex virus with altered DNA polymerase.

The drug reduces the manifestation and duration of postherpetic neuralgia in people with herpes zoster.

Its bioavailability is 77%. The maximum concentration of the drug is reached after approximately 45 minutes. Penciclovir is characterized by a degree of binding to plasma proteins of less than 20%. Plasma half-life is up to 2 hours. The active substance of the drug is excreted primarily in the urine.

Indications for use

  • This medicine is prescribed by a doctor for:
  • suppressive therapy for recurrent herpes-associated infections;

Instructions for use of Famvir (Method and dosage)

The instructions for Famvir indicate that the tablets should be taken orally. The time of taking them does not depend on food, and they cannot be chewed, but can be washed down with water. Dosages depend on pathological condition and other factors.

For an infection caused by the Varicella zoster virus (the patient has normal immunity), it is recommended to take 250 mg 3 times a day, 500 mg 2 times a day, or 750 mg 1 time a day. For postherpetic neuralgia, give 250-500 mg 3 times a day. For ophthalmoherpes, 500 mg is prescribed 3 times a day. For an infection caused by the Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (in which case the patient has reduced immunity), take 500 mg 2 times a day. The instructions for use of Famvir indicate that in all four cases the course of use is designed for a week. It is advisable to begin therapy immediately after the first symptoms of the disease appear.

For infections caused by the Varicella zoster virus, patients with reduced immunity are given 500 mg of the drug 3 times a day for 10 days.

For infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (the patient has normal immunity), give 250 mg 3 times a day. For relapses of chronic infection, patients in adulthood are prescribed the medicine 2 times a day at a dosage of 125 mg. In both cases, it is advisable to start therapy at the first symptoms of the disease; the medicine is used for five days.

In case of recurrent herpetic infection, take 250 mg 2 times a day. The course of therapy is prescribed individually in each case, depending on the severity of the disease.

The effective dosage for HIV-infected patients is usually 500 mg 2 times a day.

Daily doses in accordance with QC (ml/min/1.73 m2) can be as follows:

Infections caused by the Varicella zoster virus, with CC indicators:

  • greater than or equal to 40 – 3 times 250/500 mg;
  • from 30 to 39 – 2 or 3 times 250 mg;
  • from 10 to 29 – 2 or 3 times 125 mg.

Infections provoked by the Herpes simplex virus (in this case, the patient has reduced immunity), with CC indicators:

  • greater than or equal to 40 – 2 times 500 mg;
  • from 30 to 39 – 2 times 250 mg;

Infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus (the patient has normal immunity):

  • first episode - CC values greater than or equal to 30 - 3 times 250 mg; CC indicators from 10 to 29 – 3 times 125 mg;
  • recurrent infection - CK indicators are greater than or equal to 10 - 3 times 125 mg.

Suppressive therapy for recurrent herpes infection, with CC indicators:

  • greater than or equal to 30 – 2 times 250 mg;
  • from 10 to 29 – 2 times 125 mg.

People with kidney failure who are on hemodialysis need to take the medicine immediately after hemodialysis. The recommended dose is 125 mg for genital herpes and 250 mg for herpes zoster.

Overdose

With an increased dosage in case of chronic renal failure, acute renal failure may develop.

In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is provided. The active substance of the drug can be removed through hemodialysis. In this case, the content of famciclovir decreases by 75% within four hours.

Interaction

There are no clinically significant interactions between Famciclovir and other drugs. Drugs that block tubular secretion may increase plasma concentrations of penciclovir.

Famvir's analogs

The following analogues of Famvir can be obtained in pharmacies:

  • Proteflazid;
  • Zovirax;
  • Geviran;
  • Ribavirin;
  • Acyclovir;
  • Imunofan;
  • Immunomax;
  • Erazaban;
  • Isoprinosine;
  • Ferrovir;
  • DryWir;
  • Viferon;
  • Allokin-Alpha;
  • Fenistil Pentsivir;
  • Atsik;
  • Panavir;
  • Lavomax;
  • Aherp;
  • Laferon;
  • Valtrex.

The latter drug is often prescribed if it is necessary to replace Famvir.

The price of analogues may vary. Most of them are cheaper than Famvir, so many patients prefer these drugs.

Which is better - Valtrex or Famvir?

Often, when consulting a doctor, people ask which is better: Valtrex or Famvir. Experts do not give a definite answer. In fact, the effects of both drugs are similar. However, the cost of Famvir is higher. So patients who want to save money often choose Valtrex, since its price is much lower.

The drug may contain 125, 250 or 500 mg of famciclovir, as well as additional components. For example, sodium starch glycolate in the amount of 8.26, 16.52, 27.35 mg and hydroxylated cellulose - 3.86, 7.73, 15, 48 bind the components of the main substance and thus impart tablet form. But anhydrous lactose (26.85, 53.69) helps supply material for energy production even before the breakdown of the main substance begins.

In this way, all the necessary processes are activated for better absorption of the drug. Magnesium stearate is also involved in many oxidative processes, so its amount is 1.24, 2, 48 and 4.1 mg per tablet. The drug shell is made of hypromylose (from 2.42 to 8.01 mg), titanium dioxide (from 1 to 3.28 g), and also contains polyethylene glycol 4000 to 1.

2 mg and polyethylene glycol 6000. Famciclovir belongs to the group of antiviral drugs. Upon entering the body, it quickly turns into penciclovir. This metabolite is very active against all viral particles, including Varicella zoster, which causes the development of herpes zoster, as well as herpes types 1 and 2 (labial and genital herpes).

It should be emphasized that Famciclovir has a positive therapeutic effect in the presence of cytomegalo viral infection, as well as during infection with the Epstein Bar virus. Viral thymidine kinase helps penciclovir, which has entered a cell infected with the virus, undergo a series of transformations to monophosphate. Under the influence of cellular enzymes, monophosphate quickly turns into an active metabolite - triphosphate, which “works” in the cell for about 12 hours.

During this time, triphosphate suppresses the replication (division) of viral DNA, which in turn blocks the development of new symptoms of the disease, and also contributes to the gradual extinction of existing ones. Famciclovir does not have a detrimental effect on healthy cells of the body. The thing is that the maximum penetration of the drug is facilitated by viral particles; therefore, in uninfected cells, the amount of penciclovir does not exceed the minimum allowable, which does not have a negative effect on the cell.

Some time ago, scientists found out that there are strains of herpes virus types 1 and 2 with altered DNA structure that are insensitive to antiviral drugs such as acyclovir. So Famvir “calculates” even altered viral DNA, thereby eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Most patients with herpes infection sooner or later encounter the problem of resistance to antiviral drugs.

It should be noted that the new generation (Famvir) allows for the possibility of resistance occurring in only 0.3% of patients with an active immune system and 0.19% of people with suppressed immunity. It should be noted that all patients participating in the clinical trials developed insensitivity to Famvir at the beginning of treatment, but there was no data on the development of resistance after or during therapy.

Famvir: pharmacokinetics

When taken orally, Famvir quickly breaks down and is absorbed into the blood. The maximum bioavailability of the drug after taking Famvir is 77%. 45 minutes after taking the drug, the amount of the drug in the blood is 0.8 mg/ml when taking 125 mg of famciclovir, and 1.6 mg and 3.3 mg/ml when taking 250 and 500 mg, respectively. These indicators indicate that after 45 minutes the medicine begins to have a positive effect on the body.

Rules for treating herpes with tablets

Herpes is chronic disease. It cannot be completely cured. Therefore, medications for herpes are selected in such a way as to achieve several goals at once:

  • suppress the activity of herperovirus;
  • restore the immune system;
  • eliminate symptoms of the disease, including skin manifestations.

All antiherpetic medications must be taken in combination with medications whose action is aimed at restoring immunity. In addition, it is necessary to use drugs to treat herpes at the first manifestations of the pathology. This approach allows you to quickly cope with this problem, avoiding the development of complications. Antiviral treatment in the initial stages of herpes prevents the spread of infection to healthy cells. As a result, the rash is localized in a strictly defined area and quickly disappears.

All drugs that come in tablets cannot be taken for longer deadline and above the prescribed dosage. The course of treatment averages 1-2 weeks. If necessary, the duration of tablet therapy can be increased.

For severe cases of herpes (if relapses occur more than six times a year, there are many sores and they affect other parts of the body besides the lips), the doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs in tablets.

Acyclovir

Acyclovir works well against herpes, but does not destroy the virus itself. Tablets are prescribed in case of severe stomatitis caused by the herpes virus. However, over time, many strains of herpes have become resistant to acyclovir.

Valaciclovir

Valaciclovir is an ester of acyclovir, used if blisters and ulcers appear on the mucous membranes and with herpes zoster.

Famciclovir

Famciclovir is a derivative of penciclovir, but unlike its “parent” it is better absorbed by the body. Famvir differs from other antiherpetic drugs in its prolonged action - its molecules remain in the cell for up to 12 hours.

These remedies will not help in any way against herpes on the lips, but they can reduce the discomfort of the disease.

Paracetamol

Relieves pain, lowers temperature, and has a weak anti-inflammatory effect.

Ibuprofen

Relieves inflammation, reduces pain, has a weak antipyretic effect.

Chlorhexidine

Has an antiseptic effect. This product is used to rinse the mouth for gingivostomatitis caused by herpes.

Lidocaine

Lidocaine-based products for external use have a local anesthetic effect.

Alginic acid salts, xylitol, guanine compounds. This gel relieves inflammation, helps tissue regenerate, relieves pain and itching.

Active substance Drug name Dosage form Manufacturer Price
Paracetamol Paracetamol, Panadol, Efferalgan Pills Germany, Russia, Switzerland From 17 rub.
Ibuprofen Nurofen, MIG-400, Ibuprofen-Hemofarm, Faspik Pills Russia, Italy, Serbia, Germany From 100 rub.
Chlorhexidine Chlorhexidine, Curasept, Dentide Liquid Russia, Spain, Switzerland From 100 rub.

Or you can use a home remedy - an ice cube. Wrap an ice cube in a napkin and apply it to the affected area. After use, the napkin should be thrown away immediately.

Modern pharmaceuticals include a wide selection of antiherpetic drugs. However, not all of them are popular - there are several of the most common and well-known means.

Acyclovir

Antiviral tablets, produced in 10 and 20 pieces with a dosage of 200 and 400 mg under the names Acyclovir, Acyclovir Acri, Zovirax, Ciclovir, Vivorax and others. Approximate price for the drug 200 mg – 35-60 rubles, 400 mg – 150-200 rubles.

Used against herpes virus types 1 and 2 for 5-10 days per standard dosage(800-1000 mg/day) and with increasing doses for Zoster (2000 mg/day) and Epstein-Barr infections. You should take the tablets after meals with plenty of water.

The drug is available only in this form - there are no ointments, ampoules or other similar products with Valacyclovir. Indications for use are the same infections as regular Acyclovir: Valtrex is no different from it in properties. However, there are several advantages compared to the effectiveness and speed of action of the first drug:

Famvir tablets are available in three dosages of Famciclovir - 125, 25 and 500 mg. The package can contain 7, 10, 14, 20, 21, 28, 30 and 40 pieces. In the body, the drug is converted not into Acyclovir, like Valtrex, but into Penciclovir. However, its action is aimed at combating the same herpes viruses.

The advantages of this antiviral agent:

  • selective activity (does not affect healthy cells);
  • suppression of Acyclovir-resistant strains of herpes;
  • improvement in postherpetic neuralgia (after herpes zoster);

The disadvantage of Famvir is its high price. For a package of the drug you will have to pay from 1200 to 4500 rubles, depending on the number of tablets and the brand of the manufacturer.

Famciclovir is most often prescribed for type 3 herpes and ophthalmoherpes, since it is most effective against it. The dosage is 250 mg 3 times a day or 500-750 - 2 times a week or 10 days. For herpes simplex (labial or genital), taking 250 mg three times for 5 days is sufficient. Relapses are treated with a dosage of 125 mg.

Cycloferon

These tablets consist of a low-modular interferon inducer - that is, they promote greater activity of the immune system. How does the drug differ from the above?

  1. This is not a separate antiviral agent, but an immunomodulator.
  2. The action of Cycloferon is aimed at improving the functioning of the body’s natural defense so that it itself fights herpes infection.
  3. The properties of the tablets also include anti-inflammatory properties.
  4. When treating herpes, the drug must be taken according to a special regimen: 4 tablets per day for 2 days in a row, then 3 times every other day and, finally, another 5 times every 3 days.
  5. The drug can be prescribed to children from 4 years of age.

The drug is available in 10 and 50 pieces per package. The estimated cost of 10 tablets is 160-200 rubles. , 50 – 750-900 rub.

It is important to remember that in case of thyroid diseases, taking Cycloferon can cause complications. The course of treatment in such cases should be carried out under the supervision of the attending physician.

Amiksin

Amiksin tablets act similarly to Cycloferon - they stimulate the immune system. However, the active ingredient in them is different - tilaxin. The drug is available in dosages of 60 and 125 mg, in packages of 6, 10 or 20 pieces. On average, for 10 tablets of 60 mg you need to pay 450-600 rubles, 125 mg - 800-900 rubles.

A drug domestic production, very popular in Russian clinics. Effectively suppresses the activity of the herpes virus and enhances the production of antibodies to it.

The drug should be taken before meals. Treatment regimen for adults: 2 days in a row, 1 tablet of 125 mg, then another 8-18 tablets every other day. Children are prescribed only after reaching the age of 7, but Amiksin is completely contraindicated for pregnant women.

Traditionally, both Cycloferon and Amiksin are prescribed in combination with antiviral tablets Acyclovir, Famciclovir and others. Combined treatment gives much more best result and reliably prevents relapses.

Contraindications

Almost any medicine against herpes on the lips is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Also important role individual intolerance to individual components of the drugs plays a role. Self-treatment is not recommended; before starting a course of taking pills, you should consult an appropriate specialist.

To prevent herpes on the lips, tablets from the antiviral group are taken in reduced dosages. Such preventive measures Especially recommended for people with weakened immune systems, as well as during the treatment of colds.

Reviews

- damage by herpes virus types 1 and 2 (labial manifestations, genital rashes, damage to internal organs and conjunctiva of the eye) - cytomegalovirus infection of the genitourinary tract - Contamination with Ebstein virus Barpapillomas of the anogenital area - for prevention during various cosmetic interventions with damage to the skin (such as such as contour plastic surgery, mesotherapy, biorevitalization, microneedling, permanent makeup, laser resurfacing, medium chemical peeling) - herpes zoster (herpes zoster) - as a means of preventing herpetic infection during remission - in complex therapy for HIV infection, as well as for the presence of combined lesions of the genitourinary tract (chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, trichomoniasis).

Intolerance to famciclovir (its metabolites) or any other component of the drug. It is better not to take the drug during pregnancy, because No studies have been conducted on this group of patients.

Antiviral

These effective tablets against herpes has a narrowly targeted effect on the virus. Acyclovir does not affect internal organs, tissues and cells. It is prescribed when various forms pathology. “Acyclovir” for herpes in tablets is the cheapest and most accessible drug that can quickly eliminate rashes on the body and genitals. The substance in them, penetrating the human body, is integrated into the DNA structure of the virus and prevents its replication.

In addition to the indicated effect of Acyclovir, the medicine allows you to achieve the following results:

  • prevent the development of rashes on the body;
  • strengthen the immune system;
  • accelerate the healing of wounds on the skin and mucous membranes;
  • reduce the likelihood of complications (including damage to internal organs);
  • relieve pain.

The manufacturers of Acyclovir recommend treating the symptoms that have arisen for a period determined by the attending physician. Despite the fact that this drug is considered one of the best pills, over time, the virus develops resistance (resistance) to it. Therefore, subsequent use of antiviral drugs will not have the desired effect on the body.

“Acyclovir” in a dosage of 800-1000 mg daily is prescribed for herpes simplex, for Zoster infection 2000 mg daily. To prevent the disease, you need to take the drug 3 tablets a day for one week.

Acyclovir tablets are contraindicated:

  • persons with individual intolerance;
  • pregnant women and women during lactation.

Instead of Acyclovir, Valtrex is prescribed. It is recommended:

  • for all types of herperovirus;
  • in case of relapse of the disease;
  • for the prevention of herpetic rashes.

"Valtrex" tablets in the treatment of diseases, unlike "Acyclovir", have a less aggressive effect on the body. However, both drugs achieve similar results. Valtrex contains valacyclovir. After penetration, the component is transformed into acyclovir. Therefore, the effect of this drug is similar to the results that Acyclovir tablets can achieve.

"Foscarnet"

The newest medicine helps when the virus has mutated and become resistant to the action of traditional antiherpetic drugs. Foscarnet is prescribed in severe cases, with complications in immunocompromised patients.

"Foscarnet" is a drug that affects the disease at the DNA level.

The strongest substance in the composition (sodium foscarnet) penetrates the infected cell and binds the pathogen's DNA polymerases, which disrupts the viral reproduction chain. The fullest effect applies to HSV types I and II, their mutated types. The drug treats herpes on the lips, nose, genitals, and herpes zoster.

Available in the form of local 3% ointments and solutions for droppers. Contraindicated for pregnant women, nursing mothers, newborns, allergy sufferers, and patients with renal failure.

"Brivudin"

This one best drug effective against HSV type I, zoster, varicella and their combinations. Before the appointment, a test is carried out to determine the sensitivity of the flora to the main component. Available in tablet form.

Advantages:

  • the only contraindication is hypersensitivity to the composition;
  • selectivity of action;
  • prescribed for children.

"Allomedin"

"Allomedin" creates a protective film against secondary infection and further spread of the virus.

Available in gel form for local treatment of the skin and mucous membranes. Acts directly at the site of inflammation, creating protective film from the penetration of secondary infection and to block the spread of the virus. The fastest effect is achieved when used as soon as the first symptoms appear. With regular application to the rash, recovery occurs within 3-6 days.

  • relieves inflammation;
  • relieves swelling;
  • eliminates itching and burning.

Advantages:

  • selectivity to labial, genital, herpes zoster;
  • minimizing the number of relapses.

"Ingavirin"

Ingavirin fights skin inflammation and blocks the spread of the virus.

The effectiveness of the drug is manifested:

  • suppression of the ability of the virus to reproduce at the nuclear phase stage;
  • activation of interferon synthesis;
  • fight inflammation.

It is offered in the form of capsulated tablets in two dosages - 90 and 60 mg of the active component (vitaglutam). It is recommended to take it as soon as the first signs of illness appear, but preferably no later than 36 hours.

After administration, allergic reactions may occur, which is rare. This strong remedy is contraindicated for pregnant women, children under 18 years of age, and those with hypersensitivity. During lactation, treatment is possible only after stopping breastfeeding.

The range of tablet products is very large, and you have to choose according to several criteria. Drugs that include valacyclovir as an inactive form belong to a new generation of drugs and are considered safer for humans (although their cost is much more expensive). Regardless of the drug chosen, there is only one thing to remember - it must be taken in accordance with the recommendations given by the attending physician.

Tablets are not always prescribed; a specialist can prescribe them in the following situations:

  • primary infection, which occurs in a severe form, or cases of frequent relapses of viral activity (usually 3-4 times a year);
  • prevention of the occurrence of herpetic diseases in patients with immunodeficiencies;
  • non-standard localization of herpetic eruptions.

On average, therapy lasts for 5 days, and per day the patient receives about 1000-1200 mg of the active drug component, divided into several doses. In certain situations, the dosage may be doubled. But it is worth noting that each of the drugs has its own characteristics of administration. For example, valacyclovir-based products are usually recommended at only 125 mg twice a day for 5 days. The tablets are swallowed whole, simply washed down clean water, usually regardless of food intake.

Any anti-herpes medicine in tablets should be taken in doses prescribed by the doctor. The specificity of the tablets lies precisely in the fact that they are drugs for the treatment of severe forms of herpes. If herpes is not so dangerous that you need to show it to the doctor, then you don’t need to prescribe pills for yourself and then take them.

So, herpes pills are sometimes prescribed in the following situations:

  1. Primary infection or recurrence of genital herpes, including in maternity hospitals;
  2. Treatment of herpes zoster;
  3. Prevention of herpesvirus infections in patients with immunodeficiencies;
  4. Severe herpes on the face with lesions large plots skin;
  5. Non-standard localization of rashes with herpes simplex - herpetic stomatitis, panaritium, sycosis;
  6. And also too frequent relapses of infections caused by the herpes simplex virus - more than 3-4 times a year.

Treatment of herpes with acyclovir usually lasts 5 days. During this time, the patient takes the drug 200 mg 5-6 times every day. It is possible to increase the single dose to 400-500 mg while reducing the number of doses. In severe cases and primary infections, the doctor may extend the course of treatment.

  • Valtrex and Vairova tablets are taken for infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, 2 times a day for 5 days. Dosage of tablets – 500 mg. For herpes zoster, the dosage is increased to 1000 mg, the frequency is increased to three times a day, the duration of treatment is up to a week.
  • Tablets based on famciclovir are prescribed to take 500 mg 3 times a day for a week for herpes zoster and 125 mg twice a day for 5 days for herpes simplex viruses.
  • In cases of pregnancy, the patient has impaired renal function, immunodeficiency conditions or complicated herpesvirus infections, the doctor prescribes the dose, schedule and duration of taking the tablets on an individual basis.

For children, tablets against herpes are prescribed only in cases where the disease is life-threatening or is likely to lead to disability. Such cases include treatment of herpes in HIV-positive children, as well as after organ transplantation and when receiving immunosuppressive drugs. In other cases, the use of these drugs in children is not justified.

The use of interferon inducers and agents with this protein is justified only in cases of severe herpetic infections. The course of antiviral therapy in such situations is sometimes supplemented with Cycloferon, Neovir and some other drugs. Only a doctor should prescribe them.

A course of treatment

For herpes on the lip, two types of tablets are used: antiviral and immunotherapeutic.

Antiviral drugs:

  • Acyclovir (plates of 10 and 20 pieces with a dosage of 200 or 400 mg). The drug Acyclovir for herpes on the lips is one of the most popular, effective and well-proven remedies on the market. Use the drug for 10 days 5 times a day. The drug has such strengths:
    • low cost with fairly high efficiency;
    • has no contraindications for use by pregnant women and children;
    • It is very well tolerated by the body and rarely causes side effects.
  • Valtrex (plates of 10 and 42 pieces with a dosage of 500 mg). This drug is available only in tablet form. The course of administration is designed for 5 days, the drug is used 2 times a day. Among its shortcomings we can highlight very high cost However, the list of advantages compensates for this fact:
    • less frequency of use;
    • the effect is achieved twice as fast;
    • Valtrex tablets for herpes – great way prevention of disease transmission to a healthy person.
  • Famvir (quantity per package varies from 7 to 40 pieces, dosages: 125, 250 and 500 mg). The course of treatment with the drug is 7 days, 500 mg twice a day. An expensive antiviral agent with a number of noticeable advantages:
    • the effect of the drug does not apply to healthy cells;
    • suppresses herpesvirus strains that are resistant to Acyclovir;
    • prevents relapses as much as possible (when taking 125 mg of the drug per day).
  • Alpizarin (10 and 30 tablets of 100 mg). A drug for the relatively quick treatment of herpes on the lips of plant origin:
    • quickly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract;
    • an overdose of this drug has not been recorded;
    • inhibit virus reproduction.
  • Zovirax (plates of 5 tablets of 200 mg each). An effective remedy for the treatment of herpes on the lips, especially in the first stages of this disease. This drug is also often used as a prophylactic.
  • Vivorax (10 tablets of 200 mg). The drug, which previously worked well in the form of an ointment, is currently available in tablets.
  • Supraviran (dosage 200, 400 and 800 mg, 25 and 35 pieces per package). A good preventive and antiviral agent in the initial stages of herpes on the lips.

  • Remantadine (20 tablets of 50 mg per pack). A cheap drug that is easily digestible and easily tolerated by the body. In addition to adults, it is recommended for children from 7 years of age.
  • Minaker (tablets in dosages of 125, 250 and 500 mg). In the body it is transformed into penciclovir, stopping the spread of the virus in the body. Contraindicated in people with renal failure.
  • Acyclostad (dosage 200, 400 and 800 mg). A derivative of acyclovir, which can be used from 2 years of age without the risk of side effects and severe complications.

Immunomodulators:

  • Cycloferon (10 or 50 tablets of 150 mg per package). Before drinking Acyclovir for herpes on the lip, it is recommended to strengthen protective functions body. It is this drug that gives the best results in this process. Also, the medicine has an antiviral effect. The method of application is specific: the first two days - 4 tablets, then 3 - every other day, after which every 3rd day - 5 tablets.
  • Amiksin (packages of 6, 10 and 20 pieces, dosage 60 and 125 mg). This drug accelerates the production of antibodies to the virus and also suppresses it well.
  • Isoprinosine (pack of 10 tablets of 500 mg). A powerful remedy, when taken you can refuse antiviral drugs. The component of the tablets, inosinpranobex, copes well with pain at any stage of the disease.
  • Galavit (5 bottles of 100 mg). An effective remedy for the first manifestations of herpes on the lips. Relieves swelling, reduces itching and prevents inflammatory process.
  • Lavomax (10 tablets of 125 mg). Expensive and effective remedy. It has a high degree of protein binding and a short period of excretion from the human body in feces and urine.

The effectiveness of therapy directly depends on the complexity of the situation and how early therapy was started. So, if used correctly, starting from the very first symptoms of the disease, you can get rid of the signs of relapse in one day.

If the bubbles have already formed, then you will have to undergo therapy longer until they disappear.

The dosage regimen of the drug is divided into 2 groups. Patients with active and weakened immune systems should receive different quantities of the drug daily. Disease Patients with a normal immune system Patients with a weakened immune system Infections caused by the Varicella zoster virus 250 mg of the drug 3 times a day or 500 mg 2 times a day in the morning and evening for 7 days.

For eye damage, the required daily dose of the drug is 1500 mg, which should be divided into 3 doses. It is necessary to take the drug for 10 days, 500 mg 3 times a day. Infections caused by the Herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 In the first 2-3 days after the onset of symptoms, you must start taking the drug 250 mg 3 times a day for 5 days.

If this is a relapse of the infection, then you need to take 125 mg of the drug 2 times a day for 5 days. For 7 days, 500 mg 2 times a day. As anti-relapse therapy, it is enough to take the medicine 250 mg 2 times a day for 10 days. When carrying out suppressive therapy 250 mg 2 times a day for a long time, it is recommended to take a break. This course of treatment should be discussed with your doctor.

How do antiherpetic tablets work?

Zovirax is often used to treat the herpes virus. It comes in the form of:

  • ointments;
  • injection solutions;
  • tablets;
  • capsules;
  • rectal suppositories.

The latter by prescribing to children the most in the best possible way affect the child’s body by suppressing herperovirus. All of the above drugs against herpes are based on the substance acyclovir. Zovirax is recommended for the treatment of:

  • herpes simplex;
  • herpes zoster;
  • recurrent form of the disease;
  • complicated pathology.

Medicines like Zovirax are prescribed to patients with immunodeficiency to prevent pathology. These effective drugs are taken for one week. For the treatment of herpes of the first or second types, Zovirax is prescribed only in the form of ointments. During the day, the drug must be applied to the problem area up to 5 times.

Acyclovir

Tablets for herpes are a whole group of drugs that are used to treat the disease in its different locations. Today there are a lot of them on the pharmacological market, although it is fair to note that not a single modern remedy is capable of completely destroying this virus - this is due to the fact that the pathogen lives inside nerve cells.

Taking pills works according to this scheme:

  • Once in the stomach, they dissolve, and the active component is quickly released, penetrating into the general bloodstream;
  • the agent then penetrates into the affected cells, where it blocks the replication of the virus, that is, it disrupts its ability to multiply and spread to other cells.

The main group of drugs against herpes, which has proven effectiveness, is relatively small, it includes four nucleosides that are similar in their action - acyclovir, penciclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir. The bulk of medicines of all forms have one of the listed substances as an active component. Moreover, the latter are inactive for the component, that is, they are activated only upon penetration into the digestive tract, where they are transformed into the active form: valacyclovir into acyclovir, and famciclovir into penciclovir. All of them block DNA synthesis in the reproducing virus, but do not affect the inactive pathogen.

Depending on the characteristics of the composition, herpes tablets can be classified not only by the active substance, but also by their properties. So, the following drugs can be used:

  • the drug can be positioned as a narrowly targeted antiherpetic (this is Acyclovir, Zovirax, Valtrex);
  • a herpes remedy with an immunomodulatory effect (Anaferon, Galavit, etc.);
  • Interferon preparations can also be used, but their ability to suppress the activity of the herpes virus is seriously doubted by some experts (Reaferon);
  • pills that stimulate own products interferon in the patient's body. This action allows you to increase the intensity of the body’s immune response to the development of a herpes pathogen (Arbidol, Lavomax, Cycloferon).

Drugs to combat the problem under consideration are varied, although they can be divided into groups based on the active component, since this component is repeated in many. However, each remedy manifests itself as effective drug, therefore deserves special attention when choosing what is relevant in a particular situation. Therefore, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the list of the most effective pharmacological products used in the treatment of herpes.

An antiviral agent based on valacyclovir hydrochloride, sold in the form of tablets with a concentration of the active substance of 500 mg each. This drug is used to treat lesions of the skin and mucous membranes, including genital and labial forms of herpes. After taking the tablets, the active component is quickly absorbed from the digestive tract and eliminated from the body within 6 hours.

The drug is available in tablet form and has a substance with the same name as an active component. It is offered to patients in various dosages - 125, 250 and 500 mg. After ingestion, the component is transformed into penciclovir, which is expressed relative to herpes simplex viruses of the first and second types, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr and shingles, against which it is used.

The product is available in large quantities various pharmacological forms: capsules, tablets, suspension, injection solution, cream, ointment and separately eye ointment, thus, can be used both for external application and for oral administration. The main component of all forms is the substance acyclovir. Area of influence of the drug: herpes zoster, simple and genital herpes, both primary and severe and recurrent. This product is often used to prevent the development of infection in patients with immune disorders.

Valvir

The effect of this component on the herpes virus is produced by a substance called valacyclovir. It is offered to patients in different dosages in the form of film-coated tablets. The product is used as a tool for the treatment of herpes, lichen, and also as a prophylactic product to prevent the development of herpes and cytomegalovirus. Depending on the situation a person is faced with, a certain dosage is prescribed. So, for herpes simplex, it will be enough to take one tablet (500 mg) twice a day for 5 days.

The drug in question contains an active substance of the same name, which ensures its effect. Acyclovir has a standard list of antiviral activity: herpes of the first and second types, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr and lichen. The scheme of influence on cells is also standard - suppression of DNA replication of the viral element. The regimen is determined by the existing problem.

Famvir

This tool is an analogue of the previously discussed drug Famciclovir and has the same active ingredient, as well as similar dosages. After penetration into the body, the components of the product are transformed and attack the affected cells, suppressing the replication of viral DNA in them. Dosages and duration of the course are determined individually, but there are general recommendations.

Anaferon

Anaferon is a very popular drug today, as it combines antiviral, immunostimulating, immunomodulating effects, as well as good compatibility with other medicinal products. It is used to treat all types of herpes virus. When the problem becomes active, take 8 tablets per day for the first three days, and after about two more weeks, 4 tablets per day. Prevention of relapse involves using only one tablet per day, but for 6 months.

Acyclovir

Antiviral tablets, produced in 10 and 20 pieces with a dosage of 200 and 400 mg under the names Acyclovir, Acyclovir Acri, Zovirax, Ciclovir, Vivorax and others. The approximate price for the drug 200 mg is 35-60 rubles, 400 mg is 150-200 rubles.

Used against herpes virus types 1 and 2 for 5-10 days in a standard dosage (800-1000 mg/day) and with an increase in dose for Zoster infection (2000 mg/day) and Epstein-Barr.

You should take the tablets after meals with plenty of water.

The main advantages of Acyclovir:

  1. This is the only drug from this group of drugs whose tablets can be prescribed to pregnant women and children.
  2. The most common and well-known - its effectiveness was confirmed for many years before the development of other means.
  3. Classic Acyclovir (with the exception of those produced by individual companies) is the cheapest and most accessible drug of all antiherpetic drugs.

The only disadvantages of these tablets are their low effectiveness against herpes types 7 and 8 and their weak effect on the Epstein-Barr virus. Other drugs are prescribed to treat these diseases.

Valtrex tablets consist of 500 mg of Valaciclovir, another form of Acyclovir that is better absorbed by the body. The package can contain 10 or 42 pieces.

  1. Valaciclovir is more convenient to take - 500 mg twice a day, regardless of meal times, while Acyclovir should be taken 4-5 times daily.
  2. The drug is better absorbed by the body and gives faster results - up to 5 days, while Acyclovir takes up to 10.
  3. Taking 1 tablet daily prevents the transmission of genital herpes to a healthy partner.

However, there are also negative differences. The price of the drug is much higher - packs of 10 tablets are sold for 900-1300 rubles. A pack of 42 pieces can cost up to 3,500 rubles. The drug is usually not prescribed to pregnant women and children due to insufficient clinical studies.

How to take medications in tablets correctly?

Famvir is prescribed when modern medications based on acyclovir do not give the desired result. This new remedy is also recommended during pregnancy and lactation. In addition, Famvir effectively suppresses the activity of herperovirus in patients with immunodeficiency.

Regardless of the type of herpes, the drug quickly eliminates the external manifestations of the disease. Famvir is based on famciclovir, a substance that is transformed in the human body into penciclovir. The action of this component does not damage healthy cells.

With the help of Famvir you can get rid of the symptoms of the pathology. The product provides a long-term antiviral effect, reducing the likelihood of relapse by 80%. The newest substances included in the medication accelerate the healing of wounds on the surface of the skin and mucous membranes.

Among the disadvantages of Famvir, it should be highlighted high price. The cost of the drug varies between 1-4 thousand rubles. In addition, the medicine has the following contraindications: individual intolerance, age under 18 years.

Tablets or ointments: which is better and more convenient?

Valaciclovir has high absorption, which is 5 times higher than that of Acyclovir. A similar effect is caused chemical properties drug.

The main advantage of Valacyclovir is the combination of L-valyl ester and Acyclovir using a special bond. The drug is broken down in the liver into 2 ingredients: valine and acyclovir. The new viral agent is better than a cheap drug, because it has a wide range of effects on the pathogen. The medicine affects the viruses HSV-1, HSV-2, VZV.

Valaciclovir treats infections such as:

  • orofacial herpes;
  • genital form of viral infection;
  • cytomegalovirus inflammation.

Acyclovir has little effect on painful blistering rashes.

Bioavailability of the drug at internal use 20%, so the patient needs to take large doses of the drug.

The medicine is not prescribed for such severe manifestations of the disease as:

  • neonatal herpes;
  • herpetic encephalitis.

Acyclovir can be used to treat herpetic keratitis.

In some cases, the pathogen develops resistance to the active substance of the drug, so the patient cannot count on the effect of treatment. Acyclovir does not help the patient if he does not comply with the treatment regimen prescribed by the doctor.

The following reasons for absence were noted therapeutic effect:

  • untimely diagnosis of the pathogen;
  • low-quality product used in the treatment of herpes;
  • late start of treatment.

When Acyclovir is ineffective, the patient is prescribed Valacyclovir (Valtrex) in large doses. Each person's body is individual.

Many patients benefit from a cheap antiviral drug: a person’s temperature drops, chills disappear, and pain decreases. In some cases, the patient becomes addicted to the drug and it stops working.

When choosing between ointments and tablets against herpes, you should consider the following nuances:

  1. The tablets act systemically, on the entire body. For this reason, they can cause side effects - allergies, poisoning, headaches. Ointments are safer, which is especially important for children and pregnant women;
  2. Tablets are more convenient to use - so to speak, swallow and forget;
  3. Tablet preparations are generally more expensive than ointments.

In most cases, the use of tablets at home (especially to combat herpes on the lips) can be considered excessive and unjustified. In general, for ordinary herpes on the face - on the lips, on the nose, on the chin - at home it is enough to use ointments and gels. Tablets are used in difficult situations, when the danger from the disease is higher than the possible side effects of its treatment with tablets.

All herpes pills can cause allergies in some people with characteristic symptoms - nausea, vomiting, headaches and dizziness. In rare cases, after taking the drug, manifestations of anaphylaxis are observed.

It is noted that impaired renal function increases the risk of disorders nervous system.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, tablets of antiherpetic drugs are prescribed only by a doctor and only in situations where the benefits of using these drugs exceed possible danger for the fetus or infant.

Tablets are definitely useless in treating herpes following types:

  1. Antibiotics - they are not active against viruses in general and herpes in particular;
  2. Homeopathic remedies, including Anaferon - many experts believe that their effectiveness does not exceed that of placebo, and not a single study has confirmed that they can influence the course of herpes;
  3. Any tablets based on herbal raw materials - today there are no herbal preparations known that can systemic use destroy herpes viruses in the body (with the exception of Panavir preparations, in which the active ingredient is an extract from potato shoots, but these products are not available in tablet form).

The choice between antiviral tablets and ointments, which is better, should be made by a doctor. Drugs produced for local treatment provide relatively quick results. Such medications against herpes eliminate the symptoms of the disease and allow you to achieve a lasting effect for a long time.

Ointments are usually prescribed for exacerbations of pathology. They speed up the healing process of open wounds and prevent secondary infections. Ointments are more often used in the treatment of the disease in pregnant women and children.

Any effective medicine penetrates into the blood. Active components The drug penetrates the bloodstream into the internal organs, and in pregnant women – through the placenta into the child’s body. As a result, drugs have Negative influence on fetal development or the condition of the liver and kidneys. Therefore, the effectiveness of such treatment often does not justify the consequences it causes.

It is difficult to decide which medications are more convenient in treating pathology. All agents suppress the activity of herperovirus. But some of them act directly on the DNA of the virus, while other drugs mainly relieve symptoms.

There are many medications used in the treatment of herperovirus infection. The selection of medications should be done by a doctor. So, one medicine can cope with the manifestations of a virus on the lips, but another will not create the desired effect. In addition, the doctor takes into account the individual characteristics of the patient’s body.

Famvir: reviews

The drug is widely used among patients. Almost everyone reviews it very well. Patients note the rapid onset of a therapeutic effect in the form of a decrease in the intensity of herpes symptoms while taking the drug. Many also noticed that the period of remission after taking Famvir is significantly longer. A small group of people report resistance to famciclovir, which results in a lack of therapeutic effect.

Tatyana, dermatologist, 56 years old, Moscow: “The drug has a rapid effect after the start of treatment. The price is reasonable, and if you follow the doctor’s recommendations, there are no side effects.”

Grigory, dermatologist, 51 years old, Voronezh: “Valacyclovir has a good effect on herpes simplex and herpes zoster viruses. I determine the correct dosage and frequency of administration, in the acute phase 2 times a day. Sometimes patients skip taking medications. It is always necessary to have the drug in your home medicine cabinet.”

To treat herpetic infections, medications are used that are classified by action (antiviral agents, immunomodulators and interferon drugs) and active substance. Herpes pills fight the virus inside the body and block its activity.

Which is better: Famciclovir or Acyclovir

It is difficult to choose the best drug because they have a similar composition and are equally effective. At the same time, Acyclovir is found in different releases, which makes its use more convenient and makes it possible to prescribe it in the form of an ointment or cream even during the period of intrauterine gestation. Otherwise, the choice is influenced by the individual characteristics of the body.
