Residents of large apartments do not need to think about where a clothes dryer can be placed, since the internal space allows it to be placed both on the balcony and in the kitchen, living room, hallway, bathroom if it has a square shape and space for its placement. The problem is problematic for owners of small-sized apartments, where every meter is important, and the main area is occupied by unnecessary interior items.

Quite often, in small apartments, a place for drying clothes is allocated to the balcony. A rope dryer is usually placed there. The suspended structure is very convenient because there is no need to constantly disassemble and reassemble it. It does not interfere with movement and internal organization of space. Today in stores you can find a special rope dryer - this is the so-called removable, exhaust design, when special devices are installed on the side protrusions to hold the rope. After using such a dryer, the hinged part is removed and attached to the opposite wall. This is necessary so that the rope does not interfere with the passage. This is the meaning of the fact that it is exhaust, which means it can be deployed for work at any time.

An alternative drying method is a clothes dryer, which is placed on the bathtub. This is done in the case when it is impossible to install a folding bed in the bathroom itself, since the main place is occupied by the washing machine, the sink and the bathtub itself. If space in the apartment allows, then a folding rack for drying clothes is placed in any of the rooms. In this article we will talk about structures installed in the bathroom.

Varieties

Today, construction and interior design stores sell many different designs of clothes dryers. Different types of hangers will allow you to decide which one you want to see in your bathroom, what essential elements it has and the types of installation.

Among the most popular designs:

  • floor;
  • mounted;
  • wall-mounted (drum on a rope);
  • folding clothes dryer for bathtub;
  • electric, or clothes dryer on a heating radiator.

Floor dryer

To understand which one is suitable for a bathroom, it is necessary to take into account many parameters: the size of the room, the needs of the owner, the infrastructure of the room, it is advisable to have a drawing of the room and the product.

Selection principles

Manufacturers and consultants from specialized stores recommend making a choice in favor of a design based on certain room parameters. If we are talking about a balcony, then, of course, it is worth choosing a ceiling rope; if we are talking about a room, then a floor rope. In the case of a bathroom, there may be variable types:

  • it is important to consider the size of the dryer (width and working area) and the weight of the laundry it will support;
  • You should first decide on the place where the structure will be placed, and only after that make a choice. For example, a dryer in a bathroom, especially for a small room, can be located directly under the ceiling - a wall-mounted, exhaust hanger, as well as a clothes dryer can be placed on the radiator. The compact design is also very popular, when the installation location is a washing machine or the sides of the bathtub itself;
  • The clothes dryer for the bathroom must be made of high-quality material. When it comes to an accessory that is supposed to be used to dry clothes and which is placed in a damp room, the clothes dryer for the bathroom should be made of metal - steel and aluminum, moisture-resistant polypropylene pipes;
  • if the choice is made in favor of the rope option, then the hanger should have strong rods that can withstand the heaviest loads;
  • It is important to pay attention to appearance. The clothes dryer must be compatible with the design of the room - specialists can suggest ideas after first drawing up a drawing and floor plan. For example, metal accessories will harmoniously fit into modern, high-tech, and minimalist interiors.

Separately, I would like to dwell on the material of the product. For example, the preferred material - aluminum - may not always be of high quality. This is primarily indicated by the price of the product. It is worth remembering that inexpensive aluminum models are fragile and can be quite easily deformed under the weight of drying laundry; this depends on the type of polypropylene pipes of the product. When such a stain oxidizes, it can leave unpleasant rusty stains on your laundry. Therefore, you should buy bathroom accessories, including a dryer, made of stainless steel - they are stronger and cannot oxidize. Due to its material, a hanger made of polypropylene pipes does not react to liquids and does not deform.

You can often find structures made from ordinary steel. If the price of the product is high, this indicates that a special protective coating has been applied to it, which will protect the rods from oxidation. True, it is doubtful that the hanger will last long - mechanical stress will lead to ideas for buying a new product, so it is better to choose accessories made of durable polypropylene pipes.

Floor dryers

Floor structures are a very popular model for drying clothes at home. This product can be placed on the balcony, in the room, kitchen, corridor. If the bathroom allows you to install a dryer due to its size, then you should listen to some recommendations.

Firstly, it is worth noting that this product is a reliable design. The sliding dryer consists of metal rods and looks like a cross-shaped stand for clothes. Many models have additional modules that allow you to expand the working surface of the product. As a rule, we are talking about folding side panels. It is better to hang small items of clothing on them, and occupy the middle with large linens. Some models have clips for attaching socks and handkerchiefs.

As for weight, they have a lightweight design and do not exceed 3-3.5 kilograms. They are very easy to assemble and disassemble. The sliding model is simply installed against the wall or laid horizontally on any surface or under a sofa. Thus, the issue of storing it is resolved and space is saved. The width of the model when folded does not exceed 10 centimeters. When the dryer is disassembled, its length can reach 3 meters, it can withstand the total weight of laundry - 20 kg. To find out more about what they are, you can read here.

Drying racks

One of the varieties of floor models are whatnots. It is impossible to dry long and bulky items on such products, but underwear, blouses, T-shirts and children's clothes are very suitable clothes for drying on such portable models. Drying racks do not take up much space, so they can be placed in not very large bathrooms. By the way, a washing machine or the surface of a closed bath are great ideas for placing a shelf. The best option would be to purchase a model that must be assembled after use. This folding item will become indispensable at home. You can assemble this model yourself - the drawing included with the product explains everything quite accurately.

Another type of folding floor shelf is a roller dryer. It is equipped with wheels and can be easily moved across the floor. This is especially true if there is a need to move it to the other end of the bathroom, if it interferes with movement. The width of such a shelf varies from 20 cm to a meter.

Wall models

Floor options, as mentioned above, are suitable for large bathrooms. If the area does not allow you to place impressive models, the washing machine does not interfere, it would be advisable to choose. This built-in model is a sliding design that folds easily. The retractable part easily slides to the side, so when folded, the clothes dryer is almost invisible above the bathtub. During drying, the model is adjusted taking into account the number of wet things and extends to the required distance, which, by the way, may not occupy the entire part above the bathtub.

Clothes dryers over the bathtub - telescopic drum model. It has the feature of extending links located one above the other. The telescopic structure can be presented in the form of rising pipes, which are attached to the wall using guides. Clothes are hung on these clothes dryers above the bathtub. Such products are chosen by modern people who value functionality and ease of assembly. But a significant disadvantage of this model is its small working surface and width, and, consequently, the fact that it will not hold a lot of laundry. Therefore, as a rule, this type of hanger is chosen by bachelors and students. All these nuances are described in the instructions for the product.

Bath models

There are clothes dryers that are installed directly on the bathtub. They have legs with a rubber base, which prevents them from rolling off the edges of the bathtub and preventing the product from falling.

This is the same sliding design as the floor model, and it is retractable after use. You can put it against the wall, hang it, or a washing machine can serve as a storage place. As for the weight that such umbrella models can withstand, it is about 10 kilograms of wet laundry.

Liana

Very popular, especially in small bathrooms, or in other words, a vine, that is, a clothes dryer located above the bathtub. It is a structure in the form of rods attached to the upper surface of the bathtub. The links can be raised and lowered using the rods that are attached to them. Due to this mechanism, hangers are called “lianas”. They are considered very practical, durable and compact. The built-in vine looks very aesthetically pleasing in the bathroom.

It is better to place a ceiling-mounted clothes dryer above the bathtub. This is very practical from the point of view that water from wet laundry will flow into the bathtub; there is no need to place rags on the floor or supply basins for fear that water will flow.

Portable models

In small bathrooms, small models of drying clothes are especially popular. They can be placed on any surface. Ideal options are a washing machine, bathtub, floor, sink, cabinets and even a laundry basket. These include hanging dryers. Unlike models installed on the bathtub, they are hung on the door, radiator and even on towel holders. Placing products near the pipes helps the laundry dry faster, as they are equipped with rapid heating due to the heat located nearby. That is why a clothes dryer with batteries is convenient to save space.

Electric hangers

Heated dryers occupy a special place among accessories for drying clothes in the bathroom. They are excellent helpers for the housewife, as they allow you to quickly dry washed clothes. This occurs due to the fact that the rods on which the laundry is hung heat up. As for manufacturing options, it can be represented by several models:

  • floor;
  • wall;
  • ceiling

Electric floor clothes dryer

Electric wall-mounted clothes dryer

Electric ceiling clothes dryer

All those models that were discussed above, but with a significant difference - this is an automated clothes dryer that does not operate in manual mode. In addition to its function of quickly drying things, an automatic heated dryer can also have an additional option such as disinfection. The ideas of designers and manufacturers are widely implemented in terms of safety. A number of models are equipped with a bactericidal lamp, which allows you to fight any microorganisms in the bathroom. The design of such a drying rack varies. For example, this could be a rack where wet laundry is placed. The top of the stand is covered with a cover, under which warm air penetrates using a fan. Women compare this mechanism for drying clothes with drying hair with a hair dryer.

When choosing such a product, it is important to carefully read the manual. For example, the instructions for electric dryers state that placing them near heating appliances and pipes is unacceptable. The same item is a washing machine. This is due to the increased risk of overheating of the device. The instructions for such products recommend not hanging the automatic model close to a water source. The best option would be to place it on a neutral surface.

Despite such a variety of options, you should choose a clothes dryer carefully. If the renovation of the apartment is still at the planning stage, then it is worth making a drawing of the room, which will indicate the approximate location of the dryer. Ideas on where it will look more profitable and practical can be suggested by various resources and qualified specialists, and then they can be transferred to the drawing. It is important to consider the width of the room and the width of the dryer, what design is in the bathroom, the height of the ceilings, the routing of pipes and the need to place this part in the bathroom. For example, the need disappears when the washing machine is equipped with a clothes drying function or there is a large heated towel rail on which wet clothes can be hung, and of course, do not forget that there are convenient clothes dryers above the bathroom.

There are quite a few types of this device, for example, or with ceiling mounts. However, the most common type is, so let’s look at it in more detail.

All floor dryers are transforming mechanisms that allow you to turn a three-dimensional structure into a flat one. You can compare such a mechanism with a device where the legs are removed and the board can be hidden in any closet or pantry. The floor type can be rope or slatted: in the first case, ropes are pulled between the supports when the mechanism is pulled apart; in the second case, the drying device provides for the presence of slats on which things can be hung. A rope dryer is lighter, but it can cause creases in the laundry, especially if things dry out. The rack dryer is heavier, and creases in the laundry are eliminated. However, stains, such as rust, may well appear if the slats are made of poor quality material.

Floor drying racks are usually made of plastic, aluminum or stainless steel. Plastic does not withstand heavy loads, so it is most often used as an auxiliary material for handles and dryers, lightweight and quite durable, but, unfortunately, over time, stains appear on the working slats, which can ruin the laundry. Stainless steel structures are much heavier, but they are less susceptible to corrosion. Currently, products made of high-quality steel with spraying are becoming increasingly popular (the appearance of rust on such material is excluded), as well as dryers made of metal-plastic (they are light, durable and do not rust).

The floor-mounted electric clothes dryer deserves special mention. Such devices will speed up the drying time several times. They are divided into two types: a device with heated slats (low-temperature heater) and a complex design that resembles a container with slats and warm air circulating inside (the hair dryer principle).

How much does a floor clothes dryer cost? The price, of course, will depend on the chosen model. For example, a compact Gimi Plast dryer with a useful length of 10 meters and a maximum load of up to 10 kg can be purchased for only 950 rubles. But the Gimi Plus Extra model, which has twice the useful length and can withstand up to 17 kg, costs much more - 1700-1900 rubles. The price range for electric dryers starts at about 3,500 rubles.

Which floor drying rack is best? There is no clear answer to this question. When choosing a design, focus on your needs (approximate volume of laundry), the intended location of the device and its dimensions, the need for heating and other features of the model. And then you will purchase a dryer that will become your indispensable assistant.

In order to comfortably dry washed clothes, a lot of devices have been invented today. They take up minimal space, can withstand heavy loads and can be almost invisible to the eye. This article will present the types of clothes dryers and will also discuss their features.

Types and features

Based on the type of design, all dryers are divided into simple (without additional mechanisms), folding (with special flaps that can be used to increase the hanging area) and sliding/pull-out (built-in grooves allow you to quickly move the dryer apart).

And according to the place of attachment, dryers can be divided into wall-mounted, floor-mounted and ceiling-mounted. There are also portable models that can be placed anywhere.

Wall mounted

Wall dryers are the most popular product option. When installing, you need to make sure the wall is strong and leave enough space for unfolding the dryer. Not all models provide for a large load, but almost all provide the opportunity to save space.

There are many types of wall dryers:

  • inertial folding;
  • in the form of an accordion;
  • telescopic;
  • lift type dryers;
  • folding;
  • stationary.

Inertia folding dryers are two parts installed opposite each other on the walls. A spool of ropes is attached to one, hooks to the other. The ropes need to be pulled out and secured to the hooks. When folded, this model takes up almost no space, but when disassembled it can accommodate quite a lot of laundry.

An accordion-type dryer is attached to one wall and, if necessary, moves apart according to the accordion principle. The role of ropes in such a dryer is played by thin tubes that do not leave creases on the dried laundry. The number of these tubes varies from 5 to 10 pieces. Often the dimensions of such models are not suitable for drying bed linen. The products are installed in bathrooms; they are very compact when assembled.

Telescopic dryers extend using a different mechanism. Such models can be extended fully or halfway. They are designed for drying light items such as socks, T-shirts, and shirts.

The lift type dryer is the most versatile. Often it is placed on the balcony or in the bathroom. It takes up little space, but can accommodate quite a lot of laundry. This dryer is more likely to be a wall-ceiling dryer, because some of its parts can be attached to the ceiling. The design is as follows: two strips with metal tubes are attached to the wall; thanks to a special mechanism, these tubes can be lowered to the desired level and then raised with the hanging laundry.

This dryer allows you to hang things at different levels, so they are better ventilated. The mechanism can withstand up to 25 kg of clothing, for which it is considered the most durable and convenient.

The folding dryer also supports a decent amount of weight, but has a slightly different design. It can recline at any angle. Folding or unfolding takes seconds, and you can choose the number and width of the partitions yourself. Often the structure is placed in the bathroom or on the balcony.

A stationary wall dryer is the most common option. It consists of two planks attached to opposite walls. There are ropes stretched between them. It is most convenient to equip such a device on the balcony. The length of the ropes depends on the dimensions of the balcony; it will also be equal to the length of the ceiling.

There is also a roller dryer that can make hanging laundry much easier. The slats contain a roller system that allows you to pull the rope, thereby moving it as you hang it.

Ceiling

Ceiling dryers have more complex mechanisms than wall dryers and are used less frequently. Their main advantage is saving space. The design and size of such dryers can be made absolutely any way.

There are several types:

  • The “liana” or “lift” dryer has hanging tubes, which were described above.
  • The ceiling accordion has the same mechanism as the wall-mounted model, only it is fixed to the ceiling. They can use both ropes and tubes.

  • Hanging. It is designed for drying lightweight clothes and has a very primitive device: a hook with a bar on which clothespins can be additionally attached. Usually these are short-lived models made of plastic, but there are more reliable variations made of metal and wood.

Floor-standing

Floor-mounted folding dryers are mobile and can be placed in any room. In addition, when folded they take up minimal space. The configuration of such models can be completely different. But the main elements are unchanged: the frame (of various shapes), fixed legs attached to it and a latch that prevents the dryer from suddenly folding. Some models have wheels for easy movement.

Floor dryers have many important advantages:

  • There is no need to install and assemble the structure; you can start using it immediately after purchase.
  • When folded, the dryer takes up very little space and can fit in a pantry or closet. For small apartments this is a significant plus.
  • Most models can withstand heavy loads.
  • Standard models can be purchased at a fairly low price.
  • Structures made from quality materials can last for many years even with frequent use.
  • The lightness of the design allows you to easily carry it if necessary.

The only disadvantages include the long process of drying clothes. This can be reduced by placing the dryer in a well-ventilated area.

Floor dryers can be vertical. In them, planes with ropes are located one above the other. Their height can be adjusted and reaches two meters. Such models are called whatnots; they are often installed in shower stalls.

Portable

Portable dryers are suitable for small apartments (rooms). They are convenient due to their compactness and can be installed on a radiator, bathtub, door, cabinet. The only negative is that you won’t be able to dry a lot of things at once.

Electrical

If you need quick drying, electric models are perfect. In them, the process goes faster, compared to rope structures, due to heating.

Electric clothes dryers for the bathroom are very popular today. The structure does not need to be connected to a hot water supply, unlike a standard towel dryer (coil). All you need is network access.

The main feature of electric drying is the heating element located in mineral or natural oil. Other liquid may be used. The main thing is that it conducts heat well.

Thanks to the oil, the tubes heat up evenly, and wet things dry very quickly.

Owners of such models highlight the following advantages:

  • The laundry acquires a pleasant aroma after drying.
  • The heating temperature can be adjusted.
  • You can purchase a model with an ultraviolet lamp or ionizer included.
  • The dryer can be installed anywhere in the bathroom, because its device is not connected to a pipeline and does not depend on the supply of hot water.
  • The operating time is adjusted manually.
  • The temperature inside the tubes does not rise above 60 degrees. This allows you to gently dry delicate fabrics without getting burned when touched.
  • An electric dryer can be useful as an additional heat source.

Of course, some fabrics cannot be dried in such devices. But this is often written on the item’s tag.

The only disadvantages include electricity consumption, but many note that the advantages of the device compensate for this nuance.

Bath dryers

There are miniature models of dryers that need to be installed directly on the bathtub. They usually have rubber tips on the legs, which secure the structure well and prevent it from rolling off the edges.

In principle, this dryer is similar to a sliding floor model, only after use it is removed. They are also called umbrella models. On average, they can withstand up to 10 kilograms of wet clothes.

Battery dryers

Such miniature options are well suited for drying small items throughout the heating season. The heat from the radiators dries fairly quickly without any cost. Battery dryers can replace the electric model in winter. They are small in size and can be stored anywhere.

The first thing you should pay attention to when choosing such a dryer is the attachment mechanism to the radiator. Many apartments still have old-style batteries in the form of an accordion, and not every one of them is suitable for attaching such a structure. First you need to measure the battery and compare its length with the length of the dryer. It is also worth considering that a low-quality dryer can deteriorate under the influence of high temperatures emanating from the battery.

Drum dryer

Externally, this dryer is very similar to a regular washing machine. The mechanism includes a drum in which clothes are dried. Drum dryers dry faster than all other types - from 30 minutes to an hour. But there is a nuance: clothes and linen will be very wrinkled after drying this way, and it will be more difficult to smooth them out.

Another controversial issue is the need to connect the drum dryer to the sewer system to be able to remove moisture. This requires additional financial costs and the involvement of specialists.

Mounting methods

If we consider the models based on the method of their fastening, then there are few options. The design can be built into the wall, suspended from the ceiling, or be mobile.

Hanging dryer

The structure consists of plastic tubes with ropes stretched inside them. The dryer is attached to the ceiling, and the slats can be easily lowered to hang laundry and then raised by pulling the necessary ropes. The mechanism can be mounted both above the bathtub and on the balcony.

Stationary dryer

The easiest option for making it yourself: the required number of hooks are attached to opposite walls, and clotheslines are stretched between them. The tension can always be adjusted.

Stationary includes any model that is attached to the wall (panels) and does not move. For those who do not like the suspended ceiling system, they came up with hangers for the balcony, which are removed from the hooks after the laundry has dried.

Materials

The material from which the dryer is made is of great importance. The service life of the product, its strength and susceptibility to moisture depend on it. There are several most common options:

  • Aluminum dryers. They are light, but not stable enough. To prevent aluminum from turning black over time, manufacturers cover models with a layer of polymer. But this coating, as practice shows, cracks after some time.
  • Stainless steel dryers. This material is ideal for such structures. Moreover, both the body and the strings can be made from steel. It is very strong and durable. The disadvantages include its heavy weight (which will increase stability for floor-standing models) and cost.

  • Plastic dryers. The plastic option will not last long, but it is good because it is cheap and light. Often, models are used for drying light items (socks or underwear).

  • Wooden dryers. From an aesthetic point of view, these are the most stylish models. But to extend their service life, the board must be regularly coated with protective solutions.
  • Combined. Multi-material dryers are less common and are often homemade.

How to do it yourself?

If you have the necessary tools in your apartment, you can assemble the dryer yourself.

Here are step-by-step instructions for making the simplest design:

  • First you need to attach two wooden planks to opposite walls (for example, on a balcony).
  • Then you need to screw ring-screws into these strips. You will need two pieces for each rope (one on each side). The number of rings in a row depends on personal wishes and the length of the strips.
  • In order for the screws to fit well, you must first make holes for them. The diameter should be slightly smaller than the screws themselves. These holes must be thoroughly cleaned before screwing in.
  • If there are gaps near the screws, they must be sealed to increase the strength of the entire structure.

For a homemade dryer of this type, you can not cut the rope into pieces, but simply take a whole one and stretch it through all the rings. Before starting, it is important to carefully inspect the walls of the balcony for cracks and voids. If there are any, it is necessary to seal them, otherwise the wet laundry may one day overwhelm and the entire structure will collapse. It is also advisable to make markings on the walls, taking into account the future location of the dryer.

It can take an hour to an hour and a half to make and only requires rope, a couple of wooden planks and about ten screws. Any housewife can handle this kind of work.

Making a folding dryer will be more difficult. But, following the step-by-step instructions, you can do it pretty quickly. For such a design you will need wooden planks, rods, a sheet of plywood or plasterboard, furniture hinges, hooks, fasteners and paint.

Procedure:

  • First you need to drill holes in the opposite parts of the frame, which in diameter will be equal to the cross-section of the rods.
  • The rods are inserted into the holes. They can be thinned at the ends to make them easier to fix.
  • Next, you need to assemble the frame, fastening the elements together with nails.
  • The base of the dryer is prepared, which should be 12-15 cm longer and wider than the frame.
  • The bottom bar of the frame must be attached to the base using furniture hinges.
  • Then the entire structure must be painted with water-based paint and wait until it dries completely.

  • A latch is attached to the side opposite the hinges for fixation.
  • A folding structure is installed. It is important to determine the optimal angle for the mechanism so that the folding bed does not take up too much space.
  • Next you need to hang hooks for small items on the side of the frame.
  • The dryer is attached to the wall using screws.

You can decorate the product by painting the rods in different colors. It is important to choose shades that will harmonize with the design of the entire room/balcony.

You can also make a floor dryer with your own hands, which in its design is very similar to a table-book. It may seem that such a design is quite difficult to make, but it is not.

For production you will need:

  • plastic-lined chipboard or MDF boards (two sides - 60 by 20 cm and two on top and bottom - 70 by 20 cm);
  • self-tapping screws;
  • any parts that act as handles;
  • steel pipes for hanging laundry (20 by 2 mm and 18 by 2 mm);
  • stainless steel rods (10-12 pcs);
  • steel pipes for a support that will recline (6 pcs);
  • steel pipes for the frame (4 pieces 60 cm each and 4 pieces 70 cm each);
  • steel pipe 18 by 2 mm;
  • nuts;
  • corners (4 pcs);
  • wheels (4 pcs).

Procedure:

  • The boards forming the future frame must be fixed together using steel corners and self-tapping screws.
  • Wheels are mounted to the bottom of the structure.
  • Next you need to connect the entire body using ties on the top. To make the frame and body you will need hinges.
  • The next step is to connect the rods and frame. It is important to maintain the same distance between parts.

To avoid rust, it is advisable to paint the assembled dryer. The structure will regularly come into contact with moisture; it is important to extend its service life by painting. First, the entire surface must be degreased (for example, with acetone) and coated with a primer. The best option would be car or acrylic paint applied in two layers.

This product can be placed in the bathroom, kitchen or any living room. If necessary, it can be folded and put away in a matter of seconds.

Which is better?

There are main characteristics that you should pay attention to when buying a clothes dryer:

  • Working surface area. It is the sum of the lengths of all the rods (ropes) in the unfolded state. The higher this value, the more massive and expensive the model will be.
  • Number of rods (ropes). Their number determines the width of the model.
  • The presence of tiers and their number. Multi-tiered designs allow you to place a lot of laundry at once and save space. But their cost will be appropriate.
  • Maximum load. This indicator is determined by the type of design and material of manufacture. Accordingly, the greater the load the model can withstand, the longer it will last. The simplest wall-mounted dryers can usually withstand about 7-10 kg of clothes, while floor-mounted folding and “liana” dryers can hold up to 25 kg.
  • Additional details. These include transport rollers on floor structures, which make them easier to move. Wheels are usually made of rubber or plastic.

Plastic wheels coated with rubber are more practical because they will not leave marks on the floor. They should be accompanied by a fastener so that after moving the dryer does not roll away.

  • The presence of compartments for drying shoes. Standard dryers with large distances between the strings are not very convenient for placing shoes. Therefore, if you plan to dry your shoes every day, you should take care of the presence of such compartments in advance.
  • When choosing a dryer, you need to clearly know the future location of its installation. For balconies, “lianas” and conventional ceiling mechanisms are more suitable. For placement in the room - floor dryers.
  • When purchasing, it is important to pay attention to the quality of fasteners and ropes. These are precisely the details on which the strength of the structure and its service life directly depend.

Attention should be paid not only to the material and size of the dryer, but also to its design. It is clear that this item is completely household, but modern manufacturers sometimes design it as a full-fledged decorative element, so that it is not immediately possible to guess its intended purpose.

If the location of the dryer is a closed balcony, then you need to take into account some factors in advance:

  • dimensions of the balcony and its heating capacity;
  • the maximum weight of the laundry that is planned to be dried;
  • wall and ceiling finishing materials, repair features.

If it is quite cold on the balcony, then you should not mount the structure very close to the ceiling, otherwise your clothes will freeze. The thickness and quality of fasteners directly depends on the weight of the items that will be dried. For lightweight clothing, regular ropes and plastic bases are suitable. Blankets or winter clothing require thick ropes and a metal frame.

The material from which the house is built also matters. The fact is that it is quite difficult to make ceiling holes in panel buildings, and for concrete walls you will need special nuts.

The following rules must be observed when using dryers:

  • If you plan to hang heavy bed linen on a ceiling dryer, then you should not opt for models with aluminum slats. Most likely, they will not withstand the load and will simply bend.
  • Before finally installing the dryer on the balcony, you can fully open the windows and check whether they will touch the hanging laundry in the future. This is relevant for owners of spacious balconies, where this can be avoided.
  • After each use, the entire structure of the dryer must be wiped first with a damp cloth, then with a dry one.
  • If the dimensions of your apartment or bathroom are very small, then you should pay attention to vertical dryers. They do not leave scratches on the floor, take up minimal space, and are easy to assemble.
  • It is important to thoroughly wring the laundry before hanging it. This will reduce the load on the dryer and keep the floor clear of water that might drip from clothes.
  • Metal structures may develop rust with frequent use. At the first sign of it, you must immediately treat the area with an anti-corrosion solution, or better yet, lubricate the entire dryer.

  • When purchasing a dryer, it is very important to consider the distance between the ropes (rods, tubes). The greater this distance, the faster the laundry will dry and the more convenient it will be to hang it. The optimal distance is 7-9 mm. If this value is less, things will touch each other, and this will significantly increase the time for them to dry completely. In addition, some items fade and need to be hung separately.
  • It is not recommended to buy a dryer whose rods are attached by welding, because this most often leads to corrosion. An excellent alternative would be rolling and plastic caps at the joints. With this system, puffs will not form on clothes.
  • If you do not plan to put the dryer away for a long time, then you can make sure that it fits into the interior of the room by matching the color of the model to the tiles, furniture or curtains.
  • Another nice bonus is that drying things indoors in winter humidifies the air well.

  • To extend the life of your dryer, it is important to monitor how the ropes are worn or structural parts fail. This is especially true for plastic models, which wear out much faster than metal ones. A good manufacturer will make parts subject to wear in such a way that they are easy to replace.
  • The most common faults are bracket deformation and gear wear. Again, this is very common with plastic models. You can buy similar parts and carry out the repairs yourself. The only tools you need are pliers and a screwdriver.
  • To replace the roller wheel, you need to pull out the pin that holds it. The new gear must be secured using the same rod.
  • There is nothing difficult about replacing the cords: they pass through the bracket just as easily as during initial assembly.
  • If you periodically hear a creaking sound when using the dryer, it would be a good idea to lubricate the friction points with technical oil. It’s just important not to overdo it and wipe off the residue so as not to stain your clothes.
  • The easiest way to solve the problem of a broken bracket is to buy a new dryer.
  • If you can’t fix the dryer yourself, you can trust experienced technicians. They will quickly select the right part and save time.

  • If you have a lot of clothes made from delicate fabrics in your wardrobe, you should pay attention to electric dryers with a built-in thermostat. This way you can reduce the risk of damage to a minimum.
  • If there is a need to dry hats, when choosing a model, you should pay attention to the presence of additional holders for small items.
  • Some models even provide air ionization function. For this purpose, an ultraviolet lamp is built into the design.
  • Although manufacturers assure that their products are completely safe, it is better to play it safe and not allow children to turn on and off electric models on their own. But often the maximum temperature of such models does not exceed 60 degrees, and there is no risk of getting burned.
  • If you plan to place the electric dryer on the balcony, then it is worth waterproofing it first to prevent moisture from entering the mechanism from the outside.
  • When choosing an automatic dryer, you need to pay attention to the labeling, which indicates the energy consumption of a particular model. The letter “A” denotes the most economical models, the letter “G” denotes the most energy-consuming and powerful.

If there is no need for maximum power, choosing a model with an average rating would be optimal. This will allow you to enjoy all the benefits of the device and not overload the wiring.

  • If the issue of saving space is urgent, then you can give preference to installing a dryer outside the apartment, i.e., an outdoor option. Often it is installed on the outside of the balcony. This option is not very convenient because:
  • The ability to dry clothes directly depends on the weather.
  • There is no certainty that clothes will not be blown away by a strong gust of wind
  • From an aesthetic point of view, such a design does not decorate the apartment at all.

  • It is important that all existing dryer mounts are metal. Many manufacturers make them plastic, but this only saves money on manufacturing and shortens the life of the structure.
  • In a creeper type dryer, the wires can be metal or nylon. And here it is worth making a choice in favor of metal ones. But if you still choose nylon ones, then for a long service life they should be no thinner than 3 mm in diameter.
  • In order to understand the design and equip it correctly, you need to read the instructions. Even if the manufacturer is foreign, the inserts must be duplicated in Russian. If the instructions are unclear or completely absent, you should think about the integrity of the manufacturer and the quality of the product.
  • Particular attention should be paid to the mounting bolts. Often the kit includes plastic dowels and fairly short bolts. With tube lengths exceeding 1200 mm, the length of the bolts may simply not be enough for reliable fixation. Therefore, when purchasing a massive model, it is better to immediately take care of strength and buy good anchor bolts.

  • When caring for electric dryers, be sure to wipe the edges of the air ducts with a simple cloth (napkin) without using detergents or chemicals.
  • The rotation of the tank in a drum dryer can be one-way or two-way. The latter ensures uniform drying of clothes and speeds up the drying process itself. It is important that the tank is made of stainless steel or other durable metal, otherwise the dryer will not last long.
  • Every automatic dryer has a filter. Threads, lint, wool and other small parts accumulate in it. When choosing, you need to take into account that this filter is fairly easy to get out, because it will have to be cleaned regularly by hand.
  • Some automatic dryers even have an ironing mode. Things rotate in the drum in a certain way, are blown with cold air and come out of the dryer completely ready for use.

Manufacturers and reviews

It’s easier to decide on a suitable option after familiarizing yourself with the most popular models from the best manufacturers. Pay attention to the detailed characteristics of high-quality dryers with different functionality.

Gimi Lift 160

This wall-ceiling dryer will help you make the most of the space above your bathtub. It has a fairly strong frame and reliable fastenings. Manufacturing materials: stainless steel (brackets and rods), plastic (rollers) and textiles (hanging cords). This model does not require special care, just wipe it occasionally. It is not afraid of humidity, which is why many people install it in the bathroom.

The brackets are attached to the wall or ceiling. The roller mechanism allows you to hang clothes quickly and easily by lowering the plastic rods one at a time. The total length of the entire surface for linen is 9.5 meters and can accommodate up to 15 kg of linen. There are no creases left on the clothes after drying thanks to the rods with a diameter of 1.2 cm.

This model is most often installed in the bathroom, but it is also quite suitable for the balcony. The durable design, when properly installed and maintained, allows the dryer to serve for many years.

Gimi "Dinamik 30"

Floor-standing model made of stainless steel. Suitable for installation in any room. The total length of the steel slats is 27 meters. The package includes doors that can be opened, thereby increasing the usable surface area. The drying rack can be pulled apart to hang curtains or bed linen.

The design consists of three main elements: a central large compartment, including 8 durable rods, and two compartments on the edges for hanging smaller items (each with 5 rods).

The useful length of this model is 16 m, and the maximum load is 20 kg. The metal structure will not bend under the weight of wet laundry. There are also a couple of plastic parts included, but they are placed on the legs and serve to protect the floor from scratches. The dimensions of the dryer are 128 cm by 55 cm by 101 cm.

Clean, fragrant linen is one of the attributes of a cozy home in which comfort is created for everyone. To properly care for bedding, clothing and other household necessities, they must be washed carefully and thoroughly. Some people use automatic machines for drying, but it is more common to hang clothes on lines. True, not every home has full-fledged hangers. A modern smart way out of the situation is to use a floor dryer. The design is miniature, convenient and inexpensive. Today's hot topic is the best floor-mounted clothes dryer.

Advantages of a floor clothes dryer

You don’t need any special knowledge or skills to choose and buy a dryer. It’s the same with operation - you don’t need to construct or install anything. The product can be used immediately after purchase. You will quickly transport this lightweight dryer in and out of the house. Put the folding structure in a closet or hide it in a closet. The product lasts a long time and can withstand many things. Prices for high-quality dryers are mostly favorable, and use is extremely simple, even a child can handle it. There is a minus - some models are unstable.

Types of floor dryers

Transformable dryer

A modern transformable dryer can change its configuration depending on the amount of laundry. You can fit large items without any problems. There are hooks on the sides for drying many small items. The best models have a total area of up to 20 m2, which makes the transformer an ideal option for a large family. You can dry clothes for 3 or more people without having rope dryers or using a balcony. At one time, the contents of 3 bookmarks of the automatic machine are removed from the structure. This is about 20 kg of laundry.

Electric heated dryer

A heated electric dryer for the home speeds up the process of drying clothes. A wire comes out of the structure to connect to the outlet. On the case there is an on/off button with indication. The working surface heats up to -40-55 degrees, while the device consumes very little energy, without increasing the size of the bills too much. Heating occurs in 20 minutes. The dryer is protected from moisture, made of aluminum, and eliminates corrosion. The clamshell electrical appliance has a timer and thermostat. You can dry blankets, blankets, pillows and other large items.

Vertical dryer

The main advantage of a vertical clothes dryer is that it does not take up much floor space. The design is quite high, so a lot of things of different sizes can be removed. The linen is arranged in several tiers. You can fold or open individual elements, changing the appearance and functionality of the structure. It’s great that you can freely hang things of considerable length. This is done simply - you only need to lay out the top tier. A vertical dryer is good for a small apartment, where every centimeter is valuable.

vertical dryer

Plastic dryer

The obvious advantage of a plastic floor dryer is its lightweight design and low cost. This product is convenient to use, despite the fact that it looks impractical. The dryer folds up and takes up little space. Install this design on the balcony, in the bathroom or in any room. The usable area of the slats for placing laundry can reach up to 20 m2 in good models. Thanks to the plastic pads, the legs do not damage the floor covering. If the dryer is used correctly, it does not sag or fall.

Wooden drying rack

Homemade wooden clothes dryers come in different configurations. If the base is an expensive type of wood, then the price will be high. For example, beech is expensive, but looks beautiful. There are many more variety options. Manufacturers treat the material with a special antifungal compound, so a humid environment does not cause spoilage. In well-thought-out models, the total length of the slats is up to 27 m, which allows you to dry an impressive volume of laundry at the same time. Individual parts can be made of other materials, for example, the frame is made of wood and the slats are made of aluminum.

Metal dryer

A clothes dryer made of painted metal is a simple design without bells and whistles at an affordable price. This is a popular product at all times. The dryer is practical and lasts a long time. If you do not overload thin rods, they will not bend. Of course, the classic metal dryer is somewhat inferior to more advanced models, for example, a heating dryer. But the metal dryer is time-tested and does not waste electricity. The legs can be metal or with plastic or rubber pads. The design is always foldable.

metal dryer

Compact dryer

You might be surprised, but there are compact dryers. These are miniature cunning designs for the smallest living space. Incredibly, a small installation can accommodate a significant amount of laundry. It is optimal to purchase a compact dryer if there are 1-2 people living, and also if the living area is very cramped. This is the only right solution if there is little free space at home. The dryer can be placed on the balcony, in the bathroom or in the room, and it will not interfere with the passage. A mini dryer cleans less laundry than a tall dryer or a transformer dryer.

Dryer on wheels

The manufacturer can put any design on the wheels for drying clothes. This is done for the convenience of users. It should be noted that the presence of small wheels is a significant plus, since it makes moving the dryer inside a living space much easier. This model is especially relevant for those who have recently installed expensive flooring and are protecting it from damage. Wheels come in rubber, plastic, metal and rubber. Usually they do not rotate and only go back and forth. If the floor is uneven, then there must be brake clamps.

Which floor-mounted clothes dryer is best to buy?

If aesthetic qualities are important to you and you love noble materials, then a wooden model will suit you. For those who value drying speed, there is no better option than an electric dryer. Practical people will like the transformable model, which can be rebuilt as desired. If you need to dry long items, but have little space, then you need to take advantage of the height of the room - buy a vertical dryer. When lightness is a priority, you need a plastic, metal or compact model. If you need to move, a dryer on wheels is better.

If you really want to save money, then be content with the simplest dryers from the manufacturer Gimi; its lineup includes cheap offers. Gimi Modular-3 is not the cheapest model from this manufacturer, but it is distinguished by its considerable height and saves space on the floor. If you want to dry as many clothes as possible and you always have a lot of little things, there are children’s clothes - it’s better to buy a transformer, such as Badoogi All Mom-2 - it is objectively better than many other dryers and is not too expensive. If you want to dry your clothes as quickly as possible, give preference to the electric model Sharndy ETW39AL 1H. More details about everything below.

Floor dryer for balcony Outdoor dryer for balcony Ceiling-mounted electric dryer for loggia

The main types of dryers for balconies and loggias

Drying clothes in a city apartment causes many problems. The most popular way to solve this problem is to use the space of the balcony and loggia. Conventional clothes lines are a thing of the past: their place has been taken by compact and modern clothes dryers. Dryers for balconies and loggias differ in size, maximum permissible weight of laundry and method of fastening.

Ceiling dryers are most often installed on balconies and loggias. They are attached to the ceiling and do not take up free space. Wall-mounted dryers are fixed to the surface of the walls and are equipped with a sliding mechanism. Floor dryers - can withstand heavy loads of laundry and are installed on the floor of balconies and loggias. Electric dryers operate on a 220V mains voltage and reduce the drying time of clothes due to heating. You can see all types of dryers for balconies and loggias in the photos and videos in the gallery. We will consider each type of dryer in more detail later in thematic blocks.

Ceiling dryers for balconies and loggias

Our review starts with ceiling dryers. Ceiling clothes dryers are most often used on balconies and loggias. By their design, they are a rigid frame with metal slats with an anti-corrosion coating.

Cords extend from them, passed through the roller mechanism of the ceiling dryer for balconies and loggias. Additionally, the dryer is equipped with a lock that allows you to lower and raise the slats. Advantages of ceiling dryers for balconies and loggias: affordable price (600-1000 rubles), compact size. Disadvantages: the dryer can withstand a weight of no more than 6 kg, it is inconvenient to hang small items on thick crossbars. After viewing photos and videos about ceiling dryers for balconies and loggias, we will move on to a review of the wall-mounted modification.

Wall-mounted dryer for loggias and balconies

Wall dryers are attached to the surface of the walls of balconies and loggias. They are designed for spacious rooms with large widths. The most practical models are inertial wall dryers. They consist of a compact housing mounted on the wall.

Inside there is a spring-loaded drum with coils of rope. To fix them, hooks are installed on the opposite wall. Another type of wall-mounted dryers for loggias and balconies are multi-tiered dryers. They allow you to dry a lot more clothes at the same time. Advantages: low price (700-1200 rubles), support weight up to 10 kg (console versions). Disadvantages: ropes sag over time. You can learn more about wall-mounted balcony dryers in the photo and video materials in the gallery.

Floor dryer for balconies and loggias

The next model in our review is a floor dryer for balconies and loggias. The floor model is a folding structure that can be installed anywhere on your balcony or loggia, and after use it can be folded and put away in a secluded place. The dimensions and load capacity of the dryer depend on the specific model.

Some of them are equipped with wheels that allow you to easily move the dryer across the floor without harming the floor covering. Advantages: can withstand a load of laundry of 10 kg or more, light weight, ease of use, affordable price (1500-3000 rubles). Disadvantages: before using a balcony floor dryer, you need to remove it from storage and unfold it, large dimensions (compared to ceiling and wall options). You can familiarize yourself with floor dryers for balconies and loggias in the photo and video materials in our gallery.

External dryer for loggia and balcony

External dryers are placed on the street side of the balcony or loggia. The design consists of 2 metal corners with roller mechanisms attached to them. There is a clothesline between the corners. Thanks to the roller mechanism, the ropes can be moved to hang laundry from an open window.

Advantages of an external dryer for balconies and loggias: wet laundry is dried outside the apartment, due to the placement of the dryer at the parapet level the view from the window is not spoiled, laundry is dried without additional costs due to wind and solar radiation, affordable price (1000 rubles). Disadvantages: laundry hung on an external dryer from a loggia or balcony accumulates street dust, a fire is possible if a cigarette butt falls from the upper floors, increased drying time for laundry in winter. You can see the appearance of the outdoor dryer in the photo and video in the gallery.

In the traditional layout, laundry is dried using heated rods. Drying covers for balconies and loggias dry laundry using directed heated air. Things can be hung on hangers inside the dryer and save time on ironing. Advantages of electric dryers for balconies and loggias: laundry dries in 2-3 hours, dries both small children's clothes and woolen items well, the heating temperature of the rods is only 50 degrees. Disadvantages of electric dryers: they require compliance with fire safety rules, consume electricity (about 1 kW per hour), require an outlet on the balcony or loggia, high price (1500-9000 rubles). You can see electric dryers for balconies and loggias in the photos and videos in the gallery.

This block allows you to calculate the cost of glazing and major repairs of balconies and loggias. Specify the area of the room and the dimensions of the glazing to get the results. After calculations, you will receive a list of prices for windows and repairs, starting with cheap and ending with expensive options.
Electric dryers do the best job of drying clothes on balconies and loggias. But you have to pay for the speed of drying in terms of size, high price and energy costs. Which option to choose is up to you!
