When working with wood you often have to resort to unusual solutions. The main problem of those who start working with wood for the first time is the lack the necessary tool, and at the same time the impossibility of purchasing it at this moment.

It is quite possible to make a circular saw from an angle grinder with your own hands, but it is worth remembering that the tool cannot be remade.

Remodeling process

What you will need for work:

  1. Screwdriver (drill).
  2. Bolts with nuts.
  3. Self-tapping screws.
  4. Brackets.
  5. Reduction gear.

There are several options for remaking an angle grinder, all of which are united by the impossibility of returning the tool to its original form. The reason is simple: during alteration, part of the structure is changed, which is why in the future you can get very serious injuries, some of which are incompatible with life. Therefore, before you start doing something, you need to think many times. But if the decision is made, then there are 4 options:

  1. The protective casing is removed (this is where all further methods begin), because it will no longer be useful, but the fastening itself will come in handy. The inconvenience of this method is the need to hire a lathe-miller who will turn the part for fastening. Under no circumstances should you do this yourself, because the artisan will most likely not withstand the load, and in best case scenario the tool will simply break. But with the support of a turning product, the fastening will be better.
  2. Combining an angle grinder and a gearbox using a bolted connection. To do this, holes are made in the body of the angle grinder through which the bolt will be passed, and with reverse side secured to the gearbox using nuts. For complete fixation, you can use paint that will reliably adhere to the thread. This option can be improved if there are brackets with holes, which will allow you to not make holes in the case, but only fix it.
  3. Using long self-tapping screws, secure the angle grinder to the gearbox housing. The method is very crude, but effective.
  4. Fastening is done with a bolt through the tabletop behind the removable handle, another bolt goes from the opposite side through the body. The fastest, but unsafe option is to make a circular saw from an angle grinder.

The gearbox will allow you to reduce the speed, and if you choose the right unit, it will bring their number to the required 4500-5000 rpm. This factor is very important, because Grinders sometimes run up to 12,000 rpm, which significantly accelerates the wear of the disc on wood.

The desktop can be basically anything, but it is advisable to choose metal constructions and take care of safety. In order to partially reduce the risks, you will need to weld the corner to the tabletop at a distance of 20 to 100 mm from the rotating circle. This scatter is due to the variability of the disks.

When attaching the modernized angle grinder to the table, you need to pay attention to the direction in which the disk rotates: the lower edge should move towards the worker, and the upper edge, accordingly, away from him. This will allow you to avoid numerous eye injuries (this will happen even when working with glasses), and the fact that the shavings fly at the master’s feet is a cost of work; they can easily be brushed off with a broom or brush.

When working at home, you often have to resort to such extraordinary solutions like a circular saw from a grinder with your own hands. It is not difficult to remake it, but you must immediately remember that this is unsafe and can also lead to very bad consequences.

How to be and what to do?

Tools and materials:

  • drill (screwdriver);
  • clamps;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • bolts with nuts;
  • reduction gear.

Regardless of the method of alteration, you need to use a low-speed grinder from 4500 to 6000 rpm, because Due to the increase in speed, the discs will wear down much faster. Along the way, it is worth remembering that the tool that is used is the one you don’t mind, because... then under no circumstances can you restore it back.

In any case, the protective casing is immediately removed, which will eventually be replaced with a simplified analogue. Then there are several options for the development of events:

  1. The most gentle option. IN in this case Only clamps and bolts are used to secure through the tabletop. The clamps fix 3 points - the main handle, the side handle and the central block is tied 3 cm from the disk. All clamps are fastened as securely as possible so that there is no free play even by 2 mm, otherwise during operation, at best, the tool will quickly fail, and at worst, it may unsuccessfully rupture the disk.
  2. The most expensive among analogues. It will require the support of a turner-miller. He will grind out a fastening element that allows you to connect the tabletop and the angle grinder through the block, which until recently served for fastening protective casing. This option is the most reliable, but it is impossible to carry out the process quickly.
  3. Most quick option. Using long metal screws, secure the angle grinder at 3 control points. It is important here not to damage any of the propulsion systems so that the assembled one will work to begin with. To be sure, self-tapping screws are used in pairs at each joint.
  4. Using self-tapping screws, the grinder is attached to the gearbox. This method is characterized by a very high speed of operation, but also damage to two expensive instruments at once, so it is used only in the most catastrophic cases.
  5. The previous option is characterized by rare barbarity, but with a little more time you can achieve best results. Using clamps, 3 control points are tightened on the angle grinder and bolted to the gearbox. Thus, 2 instruments remain intact, but the time spent increases up to 10 times.

When installing to a countertop or any other surface, the technician must be provided with maximum protection, because... Discs often rupture. There’s no need to be too clever here, because... A layer of sheet steel will perfectly cope with the task. If you want to achieve maximum reliability, you can use steel profile 3 mm, which a wood cutter will not penetrate even at very high speeds. Located protective structure at a distance of 5 cm from the disk so that the wood passes freely from above.

Many representatives of the stronger half of humanity simply need such a thing as a circular saw, but it is quite difficult to purchase it due to its high cost.

Circular is cutting tool, which is based on a metal disc with external teeth.

But experienced experts say that making a circular on our own quite possible. To do this you need to have patience, an adaptation for a workbench and a mechanism such as a grinder. Of course, for this you need to have other materials, for example steel angles (enough pieces), rectangular pipe from the profile and the engine.

The main method of making a circular saw

If you have a grinder, then the process of making such a saw is much simpler. To do this, you need to make a stop (sliding) and a handle. First you need to understand what this emphasis is. It consists of two pieces of small corner made of metal, which are located on two sides of the main mechanism, that is, a special disk with teeth. It is installed instead of an abrasive wheel. The gap on either side should be about 4 mm.

The chamfers of the corners are rounded horizontally from below so that they cannot adhere to the part that will be processed. These metal corners are connected both front and rear by transverse fasteners, which can be nuts and bolts and a pack of washers.

The process of making a circular saw from a grinder with your own hands

The axial handle is made from an iron tube or an ordinary twig, which looks like horns pointing forward and upward. Perhaps these will be transverse staples having a certain width, usually equal to the width of a man's palm. At the ends that will be attached to the gearbox, it is necessary to drill holes for bolting. At the same time, you must not spill them, otherwise the handle will become easily bendable. To make a handle for a circular saw in the form of a horn, you need to splash the far end on a horizontal surface and drill a hole for the corresponding axis (4-6 mm plus a margin of 2-4 mm).

If the handle is made in the form of a bracket, then a piece of twig is fixed into the holes of the gearbox, and the outer part is spilled and a hole is drilled in it. Next, an adjustment rod is made, for which a steel rod measuring 4-6 mm is taken. One end of it is bent into a loop, splashed a little, after which a hole is drilled for the stop bolt at the front.

On the equipment of the grinder, or rather its body, it is necessary to put on a clamp, the screw tie of which is located in the lower part. A tin strip is attached to this tie, which is folded in half. It is also possible to strengthen it with galvanization, which has a hole for the rear bolt for a sliding stop. The thickness of the strip must be at least 1.5 mm. Equal clearances can be achieved by repositioning the washers.

Two to four holes are made in the body of the gearbox, threaded for small bolts.

To do this, the gearbox is disassembled and the drilling location is determined. These holes will allow you to attach an axial handle. At the very end of the rod, a thread is cut that will fit into the hole on this handle. Thanks to this, the circular saw has the ability to regulate the level of the cut, that is, its depth. The fact is that one nut fastener is screwed into the threaded end in advance, and after the circular is assembled, a second one is screwed in. If the nuts are alternately tightened or loosened, precise adjustment of the cut can be achieved. Now you know how to make a circular grinder out of an angle grinder on your own.

A circular saw, or more simply a “circular saw,” can be useful to any man both during major home repairs and just on the farm. And if you suddenly need it, you don’t have to run to the store to get it. You can take a grinder and, after spending a little free time, turn it into a circular saw with your own hands.

How to make a circular grinder with your own hands? This does not require special drawings or professional skills. You will need a little patience and the presence of some tools and improvised means in the house:

  • cutting wheel for wood (150-180 mm);
  • electric drill;
  • reinforcing bars;
  • metal clamps;
  • bolts, nuts, washers.

Making a sliding stop

First you need to assemble a thrust-sliding structure for the future circular. To make this part, you will need two oblong metal corners - they will be located on both sides of the cutting wheel. It is advisable to sharpen the lower edges of the corners so that they do not scratch the workpiece when cutting.

Next, the corners are connected to each other at the edges with bolts and nuts, and a gap is left between them using washers. There should be a gap of 3-4 mm between the corners and the disk on each side so that the disk does not touch the edges of the stop during operation.

Then a clamp is put on the tool body with the tie down. The sliding stop must be firmly fixed to the screed. You can use galvanized tape.

Preparing the gearbox and making the axial handle

Using a standard angle grinder handle, make high-quality cut pretty hard. Therefore, it is recommended to make a handle with your own hands and then attach it to the grinder.

But first you need to prepare the instrument for such a modification. It is recommended to disassemble the tool gearbox and find areas suitable for drilling. Then drill several mounting holes with threads for a small bolt in the gearbox housing.

The handle itself is best made of metal (reinforcement, pipe or cross brace). At those ends of the handle with which it is attached to the gearbox, mounting holes are drilled. The handle is then attached to the tool using fasteners.

Making an adjusting rod

Before you start using a homemade circular saw, you should equip it with a cut depth regulator. The so-called adjusting rod.

A piece of reinforcing rod with a diameter of 5 mm is used as an adjusting rod. One of the ends of the rod is bent and flattened, then fixed with the front bolts of the corner stop.

A thread is cut at the other end of the rod. This is necessary for the rod to fit into the hole in the axial handle. Then a nut is screwed onto the thread, and the tail of the rod is threaded into the hole in the handle. After this, another nut is screwed on.

By loosening and tightening these nuts the depth of cut will be adjusted.

Thus, the hand-made circular saw is ready for use (video).

However, for greater convenience, you can turn it into a table saw. This will require a little more patience and available tools.

Converting a manual circular saw into a tabletop one

The first step is to turn the circular from hand tools in a tabletop, you should choose the table itself. It must be strong and stable. This is important not only for comfortable work, but also for safety reasons. For example, an old one may do kitchen table made of wood and metal.

Next you will need a reinforcing rod or metal pipe with a diameter of 15-22 mm. This pipe is bent (or cut and welded) in the shape of the letter “P”. Then the lower ends of this structure are bent, flattened and attached to the table using any in a convenient way- the main thing is that it stays strong and stable.

Then from two pieces hollow metal pipe The T-shaped lever is welded. Its transverse part must first be cut and bent so that it can be put on the crossbar of the frame, and then fastened with clamps. A ready-made manual circular is attached to the end of the lever itself, also with clamps.

So, the DIY desktop circular table is ready for use. If you replace the disk, it can be used for cutting metal. Unfortunately, it cannot handle thick lumber, and it is not very convenient to use for rip sawing. For these purposes, you can try to turn the angle grinder into circular saw.

Circular saw

In this case, the grinder is mounted not above the tabletop, but under it. Remake it for manual circular saw not required - just replace the disk and securely secure it under the tabletop. To do this, you can use clamps, screws or specially made fasteners.

As with a tabletop circular table, the table must be strong and stable. It is desirable that it not just stand on the floor, but be screwed to it. The table top should be thick and preferably covered thin sheets metal - for better sliding of fed workpieces. You can also use chipboard.

The gap in the tabletop should be the same width as that of the stop hand saw, 3-4 mm from the disk in both directions.

For more convenient work, you can equip the table with guides made of timber, screwing them onto self-tapping screws.

Important!

In conclusion, it should be recalled that the original purpose of an angle grinder is grinding and cutting hard materials. Therefore, when converting an angle grinder into a circular saw, it is necessary to turn Special attention for the following points:

  • When using a grinder as a tabletop tool, remember that the lower edge of the disk should rotate towards the master, and the upper edge - away from him. It is also advisable to equip your machine with a protective plexiglass screen.
  • Feeding of workpieces into the circular saw is done not by hand, but by other workpieces.
  • The rotation speed of the grinder is significantly higher than the speed of the circular saw. When installing a wood cutting wheel (150-180 mm) on an angle grinder, it is necessary to reduce the tool speed to 4000-5000 rpm.

Otherwise, the discs will become dull almost instantly. If the angle grinder you are using does not have a regulator, you can connect a special reduction gear to it.

A circular saw is one of the universal metalworking tools that is widely used in various fields economy, in metal and woodworking, furniture production and solving other problems. The main advantages of disk machines include ease of operation, high cutting speed and accuracy, as well as good maintainability and the ability to quickly replace cutting disc. If you don't have a professional or household one at hand disk machine, you can make it yourself using regular angle grinding machine(angle grinder) or grinders.

Self-production cutting machine based on a grinder justifies itself from an economic point of view: for performing one-time household work (cutting logs, metal and wooden profiles, beams and corners, as well as ceramic tiles and other materials) it is unprofitable to buy expensive machine tools. Having basic skills in working with welding machines and other tools from the mechanic’s arsenal, you can easily make a circular, pendulum or chain saw with your own hands.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with detailed instructions, drawings and tips for making a saw from an angle grinder with your own hands in the video, where you will find many useful practical recommendations and learn something important for yourself theoretical information for re-equipment of tools (photo instructions for your convenience also complement the video).

Do-it-yourself circular saw from an angle grinder

A circular saw, designed for simple but extensive woodworking work - cutting timber, boards, lining, etc. - can be made quite simply on the basis of an ordinary grinder. It is recommended to take an angle grinder with a disk diameter of at least 125 mm to make the tool universal in use. You can make a circular grinder based on an angle grinder according to drawings or without using an old one kitchen table, as well as homemade frame structure made of metal or durable wood.

The main requirement for the base is the stability of the structure (it should not become loose) and a flat frame on which the grinder will be attached. It is necessary to make a slot in it for the saw blade. The frame can be made of wood, chipboard, plywood, sheet metal, plexiglass and other solid materials with a thickness corresponding to the loads that will be placed on the structure during operation.

Since the drive of the circular saw from the grinder will be attached to the bottom of the table lid, it is better to make the lid hinged using strong hinges. Don't forget also about the guide bar - it can be made from ordinary metal corner. In this case, the bar can be fixed or sliding. The most important part of making a circular saw is securing it securely to the frame. To do this, you can use strong self-tapping screws, and also make your own special brackets for fixing angle grinders on the table top.

Do-it-yourself pendulum saw from an angle grinder

Based on an angle grinder, you can also make a pendulum and mounting cutting saw for use at home. With its help, you can easily cut identical parts and blanks from wood and metal. The design of such homemade machine more secure because The cutting disc together with the grinder is attached above the table top. Such a grinder saw is made by hand according to drawings, and also with the experience and skills of a mechanic - it is done by eye due to the simplicity of its design.

Make a pendulum or assembly saw from an angle grinder is quite simple: the design will consist of a frame, a pendulum and a mount for an angle grinder. The frame can be made from profile pipes, welding a frame from them and installing a platform on it from sheet metal thickness from 3 mm. A metal bracket is attached to the platform for mounting pendulum saw and a stop for fixing the workpiece during cutting. The stop is best made in the form of a rotating protractor, which will allow you to conveniently set the angle between the part and the cutting saw blade.

It is also necessary to make a hole (cut) in the table top of the machine where the saw blade touches. The pendulum in this design is also made from metal profiles using welding (you can see the drawings below on the page). It must be secured on one side to the bracket, and on the other side, the mount for the angle grinder must be fixed to it. This T-shaped pendulum must have a movable joint that allows the cutting disc to move during operation. The connection can be made of a rolling bearing and bushing, as well as a rubber band or spring (to return the mechanism to its original position).

The attachment of the angle grinder to the pendulum is made in the form of a metal console with one or two brackets. The angle grinder is attached to one of them with bolts, and with the help of a second bracket in the form of a clamp, the angle grinder is held by the body. Manufactured using a similar principle Miter saw, a video on the equipment of which you can watch here.

DIY chain saw from an angle grinder

The good thing about the two previous types of homemade machines is that, if necessary, the grinder can be dismantled and used in the usual way. In contrast, to make a chainsaw from an angle grinder, it will have to be permanently modified. You can also make a chain saw from a grinder with your own hands, but compared to the two previous types of machines hand made it is a less practical and less safe device. If you have an old grinder that you don't mind modifying for a variety of cutting jobs, you can make a chainsaw out of it.

Such a saw may be needed on the farm for cutting branches and other wooden structures where it is difficult to get regular saw. To make a chain saw you will need a bracket for mounting a bar, which can be made from metal profile. The saw chain is pulled onto it and the drive sprocket is screwed on. For this design, it is advisable to choose an angle grinder with an adjustable disk rotation speed.

Now you know how to do cutting machine pendulum, circular and chain type from an angle grinder.
