Painting ceramic tiles in your design with our tips

To begin with, you should get a stencil with which you will apply drawings again and again. To make a stencil for painting ceramic tiles in the bathroom, you will need the following materials:

  • Durable gasket;
  • Thin cardboard or laminating film;
  • Primer;
  • Aerosol glue 9 can be replaced with paper adhesive tape;
  • Tracing paper and pencil, as well as a marker;
  • Sponge;
  • Tile paint;
  • Cardboard cutting knife

Painting ceramic tiles must be done very carefully. It would be a good idea to make sure that the stencil fits tightly to the tile. Otherwise, the paint will simply seep through it. To prevent this from happening, craftsmen recommend using spray paint.

The entire procedure for painting ceramic tiles is as follows. You need to take the stencil, place it wrong side up on the paper, and cover it with an even layer of glue. Then wait 5-10 minutes and apply to the tile. If there is excess glue left on the tiles, they can be removed using gasoline or white alcohol.

Painting ceramic tiles begins with degreasing the surface, that is, wiping it with alcohol. If you have to paint on a large surface, then you will need a primer. It is the latter that will increase the adhesion between the base and the paint layer. When painting ceramics, be careful how you hold the sponge. It must be in a strictly perpendicular position. Don't rush, otherwise you will end up with a blurry drawing.

Now let's figure out how to make a stencil for painting ceramic tiles.

  • Copy the design using tracing paper onto the stencil material;
  • The finished lines need to be outlined with a marker;
  • To avoid cutting the surface of the object you are working on, place something thick under the cardboard;
  • And then feel free to cut out all the details that will be painted over later;
  • Attach the resulting stencil to the tile. Use either duct tape or glue, whichever is more convenient for you;
  • Paint the cut out areas using thick paint. We do not recommend liquid ones, because they are too fluid;
  • We wait until the paint dries and remove the stencil. Clean up any remaining glue;

Tile in the kitchen ages over time, losing its appearance. It is not at all necessary to replace the tiles; in this case, they can be decorated. Replacement? Even with the most simple version– – It’s a costly task, but you can decorate it yourself.

The most important thing here is to choose waterproof materials with high adhesion (adhesion) to the tile surface. And the work itself can be done with the most basic tools for painting works, additionally using office supplies.

Apply a stencil

To update the tile, you can apply a stencil to it (see the article “” about their types). First you need to thoroughly clean the surface. For this we will need a brush and any detergent.

Then the surface is wiped with alcohol and then wiped dry with silicone carbide paper. After this procedure, the surface of the tile will become rough. This is done to better fix the paint. And after this, the tiles are coated with a primer.

The patterns are applied using special paint for glass. Choosing a pattern is perhaps the most difficult thing in this matter. Go online and you will find many pattern options. After we have decided on the pattern, we make a stencil. Then, having attached the stencil of the design to the wall, we simply paint over its cut out areas.

Advice: so that there are no smudges when decorating the tiles, and for better fixation of the stencil, it must be secured to the wall with aerosol glue. There will be no traces left after it, and it can be removed quite simply.

Drawings can be applied different formats. For example, a repeating pattern is applied to each tile or a large composition is made. The second option is the most difficult. Only a person with certain abilities can complete such a task. If you don't have them, perhaps someone you know has a similar talent.

So, we have drawn the image. Now it should be varnished. After this, our decoration is ready. It can be applied to the walls of any room. Just remember that you cannot use abrasive materials to clean decorated tiles.

Vinyl decoupage

You can also update tiles using vinyl. Stores sell special interior stickers made from this material. These stickers have images on them. This material is quite resistant to mechanical stress and has excellent water resistance. Vinyl film can also be used to decorate ceramic tiles in any room.

Interior stickers can be purchased at hardware stores; If they are not there, then you can try to make a purchase online. There is big choice similar stickers with a wide variety of designs.

The film glued to the wall is also varnished. Be sure to make sure that after gluing there is no residue left under the film. air bubbles. But if they still remain, then pierce them with a needle. There will be no traces left of this, and the air will escape.

Decoupage with paper or napkins

And there is another way to update the tiles. This method is perhaps the most effective, but at the same time the least expensive. This is a way to decorate old tiles with paper. This is done as follows: a certain design is printed on translucent paper, then this design is cut out and glued onto a thick paper base.

A sheet of thick paper with a pattern is impregnated with glue and then pasted onto a previously degreased surface. Instead of paper, you can also take a napkin with a pattern. The dried paper is coated with acrylic varnish. After this procedure, the paper becomes moisture resistant. Now it will serve you for a long time. And if you get tired of paper decoupage, you can easily remove it from the surface of the tile.

The design on the tiles always looks original. When renovating, individual patterned tiles can be a great addition to the design. And you can always apply designs to the tiles yourself.
And for this you don’t have to be a cool artist - just get the tiles and stencils, special paint for painting on ceramics, stencil brushes and aerosol glue, as well as a jar of water in which you can wash the brushes. or the kitchen - it's not difficult at all!

Before you start painting on ceramic tiles, the tile itself must be wiped free of dirt and dust, even if at first glance it seems absolutely clean. To do this, you can use regular alcohol or vodka, after which you must wash the tiles under running water with a cloth with a small amount of simple dishwashing detergent. Before painting, you should also wipe the surface of the tile dry.

It is better to select the stencil according to. While the tile is drying after washing, it must be coated with reverse side aerosol glue. This is not necessary - you can simply sprinkle it with water to apply it to the tiles. But for a novice artist, aerosol glue will be much more convenient - your stencil will not “ride” on the tile while drawing.

You can choose any color for the first application of paint. It is better to take first those colors that combine with others in the picture, and then those that contrast with the general background. When painting with a stencil, the brush must be held perpendicular to the surface of the tile, and the paint itself must be applied pointwise. This is not the most strict rule for painting on tiles, but if you drag the brush along the surface, the paint may flow under the stencil. Then your drawing will not be very neat. It is also important to ensure that the paint does not flow, so do not apply it in large quantities.

Once you're done with the first color, you can move on to the next one. It is important that you do not “tread” over the features of the stencil and do not mix paints. When it comes to similar paint tones, this is not very noticeable, but for contrasting colors it makes a big difference.

Different paint colors can also have different consistencies. If you use paint that is too thin, you can use a foam sponge instead of a paint brush. Basically, you can simply cut out a small piece of the sponge from the washcloth you usually use to wash dishes. You need to draw with a sponge using a kind of “blotting” motion - the effect of drawing will be very interesting.

The fact is that the brush leaves invisible streaks, and the sponge allows you to create a coating that will be slightly rough, as if very small drops of paint were left on the tile. It looks beautiful, especially if you want to highlight a specific element in the drawing. This can be done not only with color, but also with drawing style.

Once the drawing is completely completed, the stencil can be removed. Ceramic paints dry fairly quickly. Once it is completely dry, you can safely wash the tiles. Moreover, you can even use solvents for this purpose. But if you want to further fix your first masterpiece, put the tiles in the oven at the temperature indicated on the paint packaging (usually recommended by the manufacturer).

Painting ceramic tiles will come in handy when you are sick to death of plain colors. You can do this yourself. Painting ceramic tiles is a fairly simple procedure and anyone can do it. We will simply briefly highlight the main points and nuances.

For applying designs to ceramic tiles We will need ceramic paint and a stencil. Using a stencil, you can decorate your apartment or house with exclusive tiles. The patterned tile has quite high cost, and exclusive tiles are even more expensive. In order to make exclusive tiles we will need: tiles, stencils, ceramic paints, stencil brushes, a jar of water and aerosol glue.

Preparing the stencil and tiles.

The tiles must be wiped with alcohol or detergent from dirt and dust, and then wipe dry. While the tile is drying, take a stencil and apply glue to the back of it. This is necessary for reliability, convenience and ease of paint application.

Drawing.

It's up to you to decide which color to apply first. But most likely it is better to start with a dark color, since if you apply a second light color to the first layer, it will not be too noticeable.

When applying paint, the brush should be held perpendicular to the tile and applied with tangential movements. This must be done so that the paint does not flow under the stencil. Also make sure that there is not enough paint on the brush so that it does not spread.

Apply a second color. we made it similar to the first one (using the method of mixing paints). Thanks to this, you don’t have to worry about accidentally stepping over the line and ruining the first color. In addition, it is not uncommon for similar offenses to add color to the picture.

Applying a third color. The third berm color is completely different from the first two. Therefore, we use a simple prim that will help us avoid unwanted blots. To do this, you need to cover the adjacent area of a different color with a napkin. Acrylic paint It dries almost instantly, so it is almost impossible to spoil previous colors.

Changing the brush.

Different in color, paint may differ in consistency. If it is too liquid, then the brush can be replaced with a sponge. You should draw using blotting movements.

Also, with the replacement of the tool, we get another necessary and useful side effect. Using a sponge, you can achieve a uniform rough coating, and using a brush, the surface is obtained with a stripe effect.

Removing the stencil.

Acrylic paint dries almost instantly, so the stencil should be removed immediately after applying the last color and washing the brush.

Error correction.

If part of your drawing turns out to be smeared, do not be upset, because everything can be corrected. But it should be corrected immediately, before the paint dries. Very simply and efficiently, sloppy strokes can be removed using the blunt end of an ordinary match.

After the paint has completely dried, the tiles can be safely washed even with the use of solvents. To paint the best way fixed on the tile and can additionally be placed in a hot oven.

Unique interiors for you!

Beautiful ceramic tiles cost a fortune. That's why on our kitchen aprons these wonderful pieces with patterns are inserted in places as a highlight of the composition.

Today we will give you a tool that will save you from half-measures. You can make beautiful three-dimensional tiles yourself using simple tiles. And the range of its applications is wide: you can lay out an apron, make accent wall in the room or a frame for a mirror, decorate the surface kitchen table and risers on the stairs.

We will need:

1. Tile, preferably plain and matte. Size 10 x 10. Sold individually in specialized stores. The price for one piece is 10 rubles. By the way, sometimes in construction stores you can run into discounted tiles for 1-3 rubles apiece. Ask the sellers.

2. Wood putty. It happens to her different composition and color. I like the Lakra company: the putty does not shrink, dries quickly, and adheres well to the tiles. Sold in 600 gram tubs, costs about 70 rubles, will last a long time.

3. Stencil with a pattern. I have a stencil just for the 10 x 10 tile. It is thin. But durable, it can be washed. Price - 50 rubles in handicraft stores. Remember that the thinner the pattern, the easier it is to make a three-dimensional pattern.

4. Cellophane bag.

5. Rubber spatulas. Usually sold in sets of three, the price is from 30 to 50 rubles per set.

6. Brushes. Small, flat, preferably soft, synthetic. Now you can buy inexpensive ones at FixPrice - 30-50 rubles. Or buy a children's brush set from IKEA - it contains six pieces of different sizes of brushes. Price 250 rubles.

7. Paints. Any color, but if you want a contrasting combination, it is better to take a bright color.

8. Varnish on water based. If you plan to use the tiles in kitchen apron where it will come into contact with water, then be sure to buy a moisture-resistant varnish. It is more profitable to buy from a hardware store than from a handicraft store. Price from 500 rubles for half a liter of varnish.

Monograms

Step 1. Apply thin layer putties. To make it even over the entire surface, it is better to take the widest spatula for this. Let it dry naturally, without a hairdryer.

Step 2. Apply the stencil. We collect putties and coat the pattern as shown in the picture. The main thing is not to press too hard, otherwise the drawing will spread. Try to do this in three or four movements: the less you fuss, the neater the pattern will be.

Step 3. Without waiting for the putty to dry, carefully remove the stencil. Let the pattern harden.

Step 4. Paint the tiles. There are a lot of options, it all depends only on your imagination. I'll show you a simple one, but effective way- highlighting the pattern using the dry brush technique. Dip the brush into the paint (mine is blue) and remove the excess with a napkin. Important: there should be very little paint, otherwise it will leak under the pattern. Did you get it? And now, with frequent and quick movements, “sweep” the brush over the texture. You will see the pattern stand out in blue against the white background.

Step 5. Apply varnish. The tile is ready.

Abstraction

Step 1. Apply thicker putty to the tiles.

Step 2. While the mixture is still wet, place a plastic bag on it. Smooth without pressing, let the film stick. Now we remove the package. Ready!

Step 3. You need to paint the abstraction only after it has dried and hardened. And then experiment. You can try dry brushing again, which will highlight the broken texture of the tile. You can let streams of liquid paint flow over it, allowing the pigment to flow fancifully.

Step 4. To beautiful work lived for a long time, varnish it.

Have fun creating!

Stencil - great way decorate your home with unique tiles. Ceramic tiles with a pattern are quite expensive. Moreover, if you want uniqueness, you want tiles that are not like everyone else’s, then there are even more difficulties - with single copies to order it will be even more expensive.

But with a stencil you have a great opportunity to turn an ordinary plain tile into a tile with unique design. At the same time, you will not spend a lot of money and have a fun time. We tell and show how to do this in this manual.

Begin. We prepare everything you need. There is little that is necessary. We will need:

We prepare the tiles and stencil. The tiles need to be wiped free of dust and dirt, even invisible ones. To do this, just wipe it with alcohol (vodka) or wash it under the tap with dishwashing detergent. Then wipe dry.

While the tiles are drying, take the stencil and cover its back side with spray adhesive. In principle, you can do without it - then the back of the stencil must be moistened with water. However, aerosol glue is more convenient, simpler and more reliable.

Apply the stencil and start painting. What color to start with is up to you. We started with a darker one. The considerations were: if next color climbs onto the first one, then on the dark one the light one will be less noticeable than vice versa.

Please note- the brush must be held perpendicular to the surface and apply paint with point movements! This is not a hard and fast rule, but if you move it around the surface, the risk of paint flowing under the edge of the stencil will increase significantly. Also make sure that there is only a small amount of paint on the brush so that it does not flow.

Draw with the second color. Since it is similar in tone to the first (we got it by mixing paints), you don’t have to be afraid of accidentally stepping over the line and ending up with the first color. No one will ever notice this. Moreover, often such “misconducts” even add expressiveness to the drawing.

This is what our tiles with an unfinished pattern look like. It seems like nothing can save her. However, this is just an illusion, see for yourself!

We change the tool. Dye different colors may have different consistency. If you suddenly find that it is too liquid, you can change the brush to a sponge. We did this with blue. I had a special foam rubber “brush” at hand. However, you can just as easily cut off a piece of dish sponge and draw with it. We draw with “blotting” movements.

In fact, changing the “tool” provides another, very useful and necessary one, by-effect. If a brush applies paint with the effect of stripes and veins, then the sponge creates a completely different pattern on the surface - a uniformly rough coating. In our case, all this is very beneficial - the leaves have veins, the berries are even.

A typical mistake. Upon closer examination, it turned out that the leaf we drew first was defective. The reason for this is too liquid paint, which is what we used in the beginning. Unfortunately, we ignored our own advice to try the brush on paper and, dipping it in paint, immediately began to paint. For which we paid the price - there was too much paint on the brush and it flowed under the edge. We drew all other parts of the drawing taking into account the initial mistake. But the first sheet came out just like that - with a streak.

We are correcting the defect. On the advice of one of our clients (stupid word, but how else?), we tried new trick- removing smudges with the opposite end of a match. This must be done without delay - in an hour the paint will no longer care!

So we want to say Svetlana Ponomareva from Moscow Thanks a lot- removing smudges with a match is simply ideal. And the surface is not scratched, and the paint can be removed like a pencil with a good eraser, and the accuracy is high and easily achievable.

We clean the tiles from glue. To be fair, we want to warn you: our favorite aerosol glue does leave marks on glass and tiles. They are almost invisible and can only be distinguished by touch. On any other surface - no, but on a smooth, glossy surface microscopic goosebumps remain. They need to be removed. We do this using ZIPPO lighter gasoline - it is clean, so it smells less and leaves no traces.

We saturate a rag with gasoline and wipe the film with light pressure. We did this a few hours after finishing touch paint, so it had time to dry thoroughly. If you don't rub with all your might, you won't be able to wash GAMMA paint for ceramics off the tiles with gasoline - it sticks very well. We check the quality of work by looking at the surface of the tile at an angle. In reflected light, the “goosebumps” are clearly visible, and the washed surface sparkles.

Finishing touch. The paint manufacturer's recommendations are to bake the result in the oven 24 hours after painting. It's very simple, turn on the stove at 150 degrees oven, place the tile there, leave for 15 minutes and let cool WITHOUT removing from the oven. When we turn on the light in the kitchen, you will see how this happened.

However, we would like to note- we conducted a cruel test, took a rag with gasoline, gave it to one of the men of our team and he began to erase the drawing with effort... We did not notice any visible changes! Although a stain of color appeared on the rag (which told us that after two hours of hard work the drawing might suffer), there was no visible damage to the drawing. From this we made a very important conclusion:

The paint produced by GAMMA adheres well to tiles and without fixing in the oven. It will withstand washing with water and a sponge, and repeatedly, even without additional processing drawing by temperature.

In practice, this means: you can decorate not only new tiles, not yet placed on the wall! With the same success you can give unique look tiles that have long been glued to the wall. Imagine - without extra effort, without noise, without RENOVATION, your kitchen can be given an exclusive, unique look!
