Today you can install a brick fence with your own hands at your dacha, having a simple set on hand ordinary tools, materials and following simple instructions. A brick fence is considered an elite-class structure that has won the trust of many people since ancient times. Advantages of a brick structure: strength, reliability, long-term service, resistance to unfavorable factors. It is also time-tested.

Blind fence

Despite the high cost, many owners of private houses prefer to have such a fence on their property because of its excellent aesthetic appearance. At the same time, the material has increased resistance to mechanical stress and extreme conditions weather.

There are many more options for building materials from which you can build a brick fence with your own hands. They all have their supporters, as well as advantages and disadvantages. In any case, such a structure will always look good, providing complete protection of the territory from illegal entry and other external factors.

Fence with forging elements

Each of these materials has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Continuous fencing

The next step is to determine the height and thickness of the fence. If she will only be in quality decorative element on your territory, then you can make it half a brick thick. Basically, fences are built with a thickness of 1.5 or 2 bricks, and often even 3. The height also depends on the purpose and requirements of the owners, but usually ranges from 0.5 to 3.5 m.

If the fence is sectional, then calculations for consumable materials and solution are carried out first for one section and post.

This figure can then be multiplied by the total number of sections and pillars, respectively.

Installation

Brick fences have been serving people for many years as a fence for complete protection, as well as decorative structure. They have excellent aesthetic and consumer qualities: strength, reliability, long service life, fire resistance, frost resistance.

Scheme of the strip base device

In addition, they can withstand strong winds and other adverse weather conditions. However, due to the high cost of the material itself and its masonry, combined fences are often built, which are much cheaper.

Basically they are the following types:

  1. with brick pillars. Quite an attractive option for lovers of forged products with a combination of stone. Massive brick columns, having different architectural forms, connected by forged decorative grille all kinds of styles depending on the preferences of the owner. Such structures usually do not completely cover the area from prying eyes, which may be a disadvantage for some.
  2. . For this design, build brick fence posts with your own hands. They are connected to each other by profile pipes on which corrugated sheeting is mounted. This type of fence is very simple to build and is much cheaper. Corrugated sheeting can be selected in various colors y scales.
  3. Full brick fences. Classic fences, which can be either end-to-end. For the through type, the masonry of a brick fence is carried out so that in the structure there are through holes. The laying of brick pillars here also varies. Often wiring is made on them, on which.

Drawing of the fence base

Construction activities are carried out in stages: marking the territory, laying the foundation and the masonry process itself.

Formwork

All lines and angles are built as even as possible. The distance of brick posts for a DIY fence depends on the width of the fence and is generally 3–6 m.

Foundation

The foundation for a fence differs from the foundation of a house in that it does not require great depth, and the reinforced frame is made with reinforcement of a smaller diameter. is being built in several stages:

  1. After marking the area along the cords, a trench 20 cm deep is dug manually or with an excavator. To determine the width, you need to add the width of the brick wall to the two depths of the foundation.
  2. A drainage layer consisting of gravel and sand is usually added to the trench, which is carefully filled with water and compacted well.
  3. If there are slopes in the area, formwork should be built from boards according to the height of the structure. In this case, you should carefully monitor the position of the frame: it should be strictly vertical. The height of the base is usually 10–20 cm.
  4. After this, the bottom of the trench is 3 cm thick with a proportion of 1: 3: 3 cement, crushed stone and sand, respectively.
  5. As the concrete hardens, install metal carcass, consisting of reinforcement connected by wire, since welding is inappropriate here. Then the rest is poured.
  6. After this, the concrete must be periodically pierced with a metal rod to remove any remaining voids. The prepared base is left for about a week to achieve maximum strength. To protect it from adverse weather, it can be covered with rags. After this, the formwork is removed and the surface of the foundation is covered with waterproofing.

Ready base

Fence laying

For the construction of brick fencing they use cement mortar using single-row masonry. Today, decorative masonry is very popular, when elements are laid in a special way, resulting in diamond-shaped openings. If the fence is large, then double-row masonry is used.

Masonry with reinforcement

To build a beautiful, functional structure, you need to strictly monitor the order of the masonry and make the correct dressing of the seams:

  1. First, you need to lay several rows of bricks on the foundation. At the same time, nails are installed in the corners as an order. Next, the mortar is applied to the brick row, and the excess is immediately removed. To ensure high adhesion, the material is pre-moistened with water. It is very important to ensure that the masonry is at the correct level by constantly checking it with a taut twine. In addition, you can build a wooden frame and move the horizontal board higher and higher as construction progresses. You also need to ensure that the solution is laid out in the same volume, and its excess is removed immediately.

Brick fences are strong and durable. It is this advantage that contributes to the popularity of this type of fencing. This design can withstand strong impacts. To strengthen it, several layers of bricks are sometimes used.

If the fence is made taking into account all technical requirements, it can last 50 years or even more. Not every material can boast such performance characteristics.

Pros and cons of fencing

The main advantages include the following:

  • does not require maintenance;
  • does not need painting;
  • there is no need to clean it;
  • fits well into the suburban landscape;
  • hides the area from the curious glances of passers-by;
  • provides security.

However, a brick fence also has its drawbacks. These include:

  • the appearance of efflorescence (plaque white, which forms on the surface of the brick). This plaque is the result of crystallization of salts on the surface of the material and is difficult to remove;
  • the need for careful selection of bricks. If low-quality material is used, if weather conditions(rain, snow) it can begin to crumble within a few years. The problem can be solved by installing an additional canopy over the fence, but this will lead to high costs;
  • high price and labor-intensive work for the construction of such a fence.

You can build the structure yourself. This requires certain skills in the field of construction and knowledge of all stages of this type of work.

Types of bricks for a fence

Before you begin the construction of the enclosing structure, you need to decide on the type of material for it. Best fit brick, which is used for facing works (for example, red clinker). This material is somewhat more expensive, but it is not only durable and reliable, it also gives the fence a more aesthetic appearance.

When constructing a structure, you can use ceramic brick . It differs in that it has a rough surface. And the ability to choose from several shades will give the fence unique look. As for pillars, they are also often made of brick. Moreover, you can use the same type as for the fence.

To save money they sometimes use sand-lime brick. Externally, the design will be noticeably inferior to fences made from the material described above, but in terms of reliability it is in no way inferior to its more expensive “competitors”. In addition, such a fence can subsequently be lined.

Preparation for construction

The preparatory stage begins with preparing drawings and taking measurements. This will allow you to calculate the amount of costs, as well as optimal step the location of the fence posts, which will bear the main load (together with the foundation). The distance between them is usually two to three meters.

Next step - cleaning the area, on which the structure will be erected. First of all, the grass is removed. This can be done either with a scythe or with a lawn mower or trimmer. It is also necessary to clear the area of bushes, trees and debris (it is important to remember that when cutting down trees, the roots must also be removed, otherwise they may interfere with construction).

Tool selection

Before you start building a brick fence, you need to prepare the appropriate tools:

  • To mix the solution you will need a trough. An easier option is to rent a concrete mixer.
  • To transport mixtures and materials, it is advisable to prepare several buckets and a wheelbarrow.
  • When preparing the foundation, you cannot do without a shovel.
  • When laying bricks, a trowel is useful for leveling the mortar.
  • At the marking stage, a tape measure is used, as well as a square.
  • To control the horizontal and vertical planes you will need a plumb line or a building level.
  • Using the rule, the front part of the masonry is checked.
  • The marking of rows is carried out using ordering.

Foundation for the fence

Next, you can begin building the foundation. The marking is done using pegs on which a thin rope or fishing line is wound around the entire perimeter future design. It is important to pay attention to the fact that the corners must be right. At the same stage, it is necessary to decide on the location of the gate and gate. Mark the places where the pillars will be located.

For a brick fence, a strip foundation is usually created, the depth of which should be at least 60 centimeters (ideally, the depth of the trench should be about 1 meter).

As for its width, this aspect depends on the type of masonry, as well as the expected height of the entire structure (usually the fence is built in half a brick, and its height does not exceed two meters). Where pillars are proposed, additionally drive in metal pipes to strengthen the structure.

The foundation trench is filled with gravel (from time to time it must be watered with water to achieve shrinkage). The formwork is installed along the entire length of the future structure.

It is recommended to immediately prepare all materials for pouring, since it should be carried out in one day (to avoid joints). To strengthen the base, you can use reinforcement; for this purpose, it is laid around the entire perimeter.

The foundation dries within seven days, then it should be coated with a compound that will protect it from absorbing moisture.

Construction of pillars

There are several types of supports for such a fence:

  • one-and-a-half, their thickness is one and a half bricks;
  • double, their thickness is two bricks.

It should be noted that pillars may have other sizes, but this will be the exception rather than the rule. When building them, it is important to start from what function they will perform (support for a span, gate or wicket).

Masonry work is carried out evenly, in compliance with all rules, as well as strapping, so that the structure is more durable. For this purpose, you can use reinforcement.

The spaces between the pipe and the brick must be filled with mortar and compacted well. To save concrete, you can use broken brick or stones.

During the construction of pillars, it is necessary to constantly measure verticality using a plumb line or level.

After the masonry work is completed, the supports must stand for two weeks.

After this, they can be treated with impregnation, which will prevent the appearance of white spots (if red brick was used as the material).

To prevent moisture from subsequently getting onto the upper part of the structure and accumulating there, it is recommended to provide a special cap (made of metal, ceramics, concrete or wood).

Fence laying

For masonry, a cement solution (water, sand and cement) is used. When constructing spans, they usually make one row. However, if a tall structure is planned, It's better to make two rows. Multi-colored bricks can be used to create a unique design, but this must be planned in advance, at the project preparation stage.

For self-construction follow this instruction:

  1. During operation, you should constantly monitor the level. For this, it is recommended to use stretched twine (a pre-prepared board frame is also suitable for these purposes). The volume of solution between rows should be the same. Excess is removed before it dries.
  2. Professional builders recommend using rows (they are mounted in the corners with nails). Apply the mortar to the brick using a trowel. The same tool must be used to remove excess. And in order for the materials to have better adhesion, the brick is pre-soaked in water.
  3. After installation, the seams are processed. For this, either a regular solution or compositions that can be purchased at hardware stores are used. An important point is the waterproofing of the fence sheet (the same principle applies as when protecting pillars).
  4. The top of the fence is laid with roofing felt and secured with nails. After this, liquid glass is added to the solution, stirring constantly. As soon as the disappearance of moisture becomes noticeable, the resulting material is laid out on the surface of the roofing material in the form of a gable roof.
If you do not want to carry out this work, it is recommended to install special skates made of ceramic, metal or wood. The material of the span ridge must be in harmony with the material of the cap on the pillars (this also applies to color).
  5. The final stage of fence construction is cutting out the seams (if desired). This technique is performed using special spatulas with various notches. The tool is passed along the joints in the brickwork to give them a more noble appearance. The result is quite interesting solutions.

Main mistakes during construction

When constructing this type of fencing, there may be some imperfections that can significantly affect the appearance and functionality. These include:

  • Incorrect determination of the distance between pillars (most often the distance is too large). The supporting elements of the fence are designed for certain loads. Even a slight excess of them can lead to very negative consequences, up to destruction.
  • Before you start building the foundation, it is necessary to correctly determine the depth of the trench. IN general recommendations this parameter can reach from 50 centimeters to one meter. However, in each specific case it is necessary to proceed from the depth of soil freezing. Another important point- the size of the foundation itself.
  • A typical mistake is concreting pillars in clay soil. The result of such an oversight may be the bulging of some supporting elements in the spring. This happens because during the thaw period in winter, the soil thaws unevenly and is unevenly saturated with water. With the onset of frost, the soil, which is unevenly saturated, will react differently to frost. It is better to concrete on sandy soil, as it allows moisture to pass through well and does not contribute to the extrusion of pillars.
  • When laying, it is not recommended to use bricks chalked at the factory. Such inscriptions are not deleted. The material must be made using the same technology and preferably one batch.
  • You should not lay masonry without a special template. Otherwise, there is a risk of incomplete filling of the seams or the solution getting on front part bricks As a result, you will have to change this element, since you cannot scrub its surface with strong acids - this can lead to loss of color.

How can you line a brick fence?

If, for example, sand-lime brick is used as the main material, its not entirely beautiful appearance can be hidden behind the cladding. The materials used are natural stone, besser, crushed granite, sandstone, and so on. The principle of work itself is as follows:

  1. Before starting work, it is necessary to attach a special mesh or welded mesh to the surface (in the second case, the thickness of the wire should not exceed one and a half millimeters).
  2. After this, the wall is plastered (this stage is required to avoid the appearance of voids between the brickwork and the facing material). In addition to plaster, a special coarse filler is applied to the fence to make the surface rough (layer thickness no more than 30 millimeters).
  3. After the plaster has dried, you can begin tiling. Before applying the stone to the surface, it must be washed so that there is no dirt, clay or sand left on its surface (they can interfere with adhesion). The solution is prepared from sand and cement in a ratio of 2 to 1. It is possible to add glue for external use. The resulting mixture must be diluted with water.

An important feature of this type of work is that the solution is applied not to the fence, but to the stone. The size of the seam between individual tiles should not exceed one and a half centimeters. After the work is completed, the stones are washed with a special solution to remove dirt and coated with a composition that will protect them from exposure to climatic conditions.

What can such a fence be combined with?

A brick fence can be combined with almost any building material. For example, it could be tree. In this case, the pillars are made of brick according to the method described above, and the span is made of wood.

At the same time, today quite often you can find a combination of a brick fence and corrugated sheets.

Unlike wood, metal profiles are more durable, although they are somewhat inferior in aesthetic parameters.

More noble, but at the same time more expensive material is metal picket fence . It also matches brick quite well.

Finally, there are fences where brick is combined with forging. Unlike previous options, this one is not suitable for everyone, since such fences completely open up the entire interior space.

DIY brick fence

The most capital and thorough are brick fences. In combination with metal bars and gates, they create an impression of the social status of their owner. Some samples capture the entire flight of imagination of the designers. You can't walk past these fences without admiring them. Other designs are simpler, but no less reliable and of high quality.

Types of bricks and fences made from it

Brick is one of the most ancient building materials on the ground. The technology of its production has been known since time immemorial. Brick buildings dating back more than 5,000 years have been found in Egypt.

Modern brick is very different from old brick. It has smoother edges and edges. Dyes added to the solution allow you to create products of various colors, which has a positive effect on the demand for this material.

There are 4 main types of bricks:

  • Adobe brick is made from special clay with filler.
  • Ceramic is made from fired high temperature clay.
  • Sand-lime bricks contain ordinary sand and lime.
  • Hyperpressed limestone is produced by pressing limestone with the addition of cement and water.

Based on their quality and scope of application, bricks are divided into masonry and facing. The first is used for laying walls and partitions. It subsequently needs to be finished, as it does not have a flat and smooth surface.

The facing brick itself is finishing material and is used for decorative design building facades, erection of columns and fences.

Human imagination is capable of translating any ideas into finished creations, so there are no limits to the variety of brick fences built today. However, all of them can be divided into just a few main types:

  • Combined fences made of brick, bent metal and sheet steel.
  • Lattice fences with brick posts.
  • Fences made of corrugated sheets with pillars made of bricks.
  • Full brick fences.

The most popular, if sufficient material resources are available, are combined fences made of brick, bent metal and sheet steel. Chic brick columns topped with small architectural forms are interconnected by a forged lattice with patterns. At the back it can be covered with sheet steel coated with hammer paint, creating the effect of antiquity and reliability.

A metal fence framed with embossed brick looks amazing.

Lattice fences with brick posts look no less attractive than the previous ones.

This type of fence is not intended to hide the space behind it, but rather to show off interior decoration yard

The vintage design of forged gratings, combined with original masonry, allows you to create unique examples of fencing, behind which stretch spaces with landscape design.

A lattice fence designed to highlight the beauty of the natural objects behind it.

The simplest fencing using brick is a fence made of corrugated sheets. This is a fairly budget option, as it does not require the use of expensive forged products.

The brick columns are connected by metal veins made of profile pipe, on which sheets of corrugated sheets are fixed. This fence looks quite attractive, although it does not require significant capital investments.

In addition, it is a permanent structure, like all brick buildings.

The simplest type of brick fences using profiled sheets.

And finally, all-brick fences. These are truly monumental structures that protect the mansions of wealthy citizens. They are called upon to play not only decorative function, which they cope with excellently, but also protectively.

Most often, such fences have a large height, up to 3 - 4 m. They can be a solid wall of brickwork, and can be lattice. In this case, the bricklaying is done in such a way that there are through gaps.

A completely brick fence, reminiscent of a fortress wall, is designed to protect the owner’s “estate” from prying eyes.

Separately, it is necessary to say about the columns. They happen too different types. The simplest option is a column with a masonry of 4 bricks without relief niches. Masonry can be made with 6 bricks or more. The surface of the column can have various niches and porticoes.

Sometimes you can even find round brick pillars. On top of most posts there is a wiring on which a canopy made of metal, concrete or ceramic is mounted. There are also differences in the type of outer surface of the brick. Most often it is smooth, but it can also have a textured texture.

The most expensive models resemble broken natural stone.

To create a fence that resembles a work of art, the work of a single craftsman is required: a mason, a blacksmith, a welder. It is much easier and cheaper to make a regular fence consisting of brick pillars and spans of corrugated sheets between them. This type of brick fence can be made with your own hands.

Step-by-step instructions for constructing a fence made of brick and corrugated board

Let's consider the option of building a budget fence and calculate the approximate need for materials for it. To carry out the entire complex of construction work we will need the following materials:

  • Ceramic or silicate facing brick to choose from. To create an original design, we will take two color options: brown and pink. For reference: in accordance with Russian standards, bricks are divided by size into single (250x120x65 mm), one-and-a-half (250x120x88 mm) and double (250x120x140 mm). The working, largest surface is called the bed, the middle edge is called the spoon, and the smallest end is called the poke.
  • Cement, crushed stone, fine-grained sand, water and reinforcement with a diameter of 10 mm. This kit is required to build the foundation.
  • Round or square steel posts. Can be used. Best suited for these purposes casing, which are used in wells. They have thick walls and are slightly susceptible to corrosion. For simple posts, pipes with a diameter of 75 mm are suitable, and for posts on which gates will be hung, it is better to take pipes with a diameter of 100 - 120 mm. The length of the pipes depends on the height of the posts. Most often, it does not exceed 3 m, taking into account the depth into the ground.
  • Profile steel pipe square or rectangular section. Its dimensions may not exceed 40x25 mm. Needed for the construction of veins. The standard length of such a pipe is 6 m. Therefore, when choosing the distance between the posts, this circumstance should be taken into account in order to avoid waste of material. With a fence height of up to 1.6 m, two veins per span will be sufficient. If the fence is higher, then they take three.
  • Corrugated sheeting must be ordered in a color that matches the color of the purchased brick. Warm colors are most suitable for brick columns. For ordinary fences fence corrugated sheeting is used, which has a smaller thickness and profile height than roofing sheeting. Standard width sheets are 1200 mm, so to construct 3 meter spans the sheets will have to be cut along the wave.
  • Canopies for posts made of metal, painted in the same color as the corrugated sheeting. Their sizes must match the sizes of the columns. Finishing strips for corrugated sheets. They will cover the sheets from above.
  • Flashings on the base are necessary to prevent the gradual destruction of the masonry on the base and foundation under the influence of cycles of freezing and thawing of water. Electrodes for welding machine. Roofing screws of the required color with rubber washers.

The tools we will need are: shovels and bayonets for digging trenches, a special hammer used by masons, rubber mallet, a metal rod with a cross section of 8 - 10 mm for leveling the seams between bricks, a trowel, a concrete mixer if possible, a long rope, liquid and regular construction levels, screwdriver or drill, grinder with a disk for cutting stone.

Construction of a foundation for a brick fence

The most simple solution is a construction columnar foundation under every pillar. However, such fences look too simple and cheap and are only suitable for fencing an area from the back.

The corrugated sheets on it will only play a decorative function, and the fence itself can rightfully be called brick.

Let's assume that we need a brick fence 25 m long. In order for the material consumption to be optimal, we need to place the posts every 3 m along the axes. At the same time, in one of the spans it is necessary to install a gate for vehicles to enter the yard. We will order them later, ready-made from sheet steel. We should end up with a fence similar to the one shown in the picture below.

We will calculate the need for materials and describe the stages of construction of such a fence.

We mark the perimeter of the foundation using a rope. It can be buried 30–40 cm, depending on the depth of the hard soil. It is enough to raise it above the ground by 10 cm.

Its width will be 15 cm between the pillars. In the places where the posts will be located, platforms of 60x60 cm are made. There will be 8 such platforms according to the number of posts. Accordingly, there will be 7 spans.

We will minus one, since it is not needed at the gate location.

Thus, the volume of the foundation will be equal to the sum of the volumes of the platforms and spans. The platforms are 8*0.6*0.6*0.5 = 1.44 m3, and the spans are 7*3*0.15*0.5 = 0.5 m3. Summing up these numbers, we find that we need about 2 m3 of concrete. We will need at least 100 m of reinforcement.

We will not describe the process of pouring the foundation, since it is no different from the standard one. The only thing you need to do is install steel pipes to the places where the posts will be. To do this, they are driven into the ground with a sledgehammer and placed vertically. Later, as the concrete hardens, care must be taken to ensure that they do not tilt.

We should get a monolithic tape with 8 platforms for posts, with pipes sticking out of them.

Strip foundation for a brick fence.

Brickwork and installation of corrugated sheets

The most difficult process is masonry. First, lay out part of the first column. This can be done in various ways. We will choose simplest option 1.5 bricks. This means that we will need 4 bricks for each row.

Laying 1.5 bricks around a steel column.

We lay the first row as shown in the figure, leaving seams no more than 1 cm. We align them using a device made from a square rod. We overlap the second row with the first, shifting the pattern 90 degrees.

Having made several rows, we begin to lay out the base up to the next column. The level of the first row should completely coincide with the first row of columns. The thickness of the base will be equal to the width of the brick. Usually the base is made with 2 - 3 bricks, but you can raise it as high as you like.

We will make calculations of the need for bricks for 3 rows of the plinth.

Having laid all the columns up to the level of the base, you can then continue to lay the pillars one by one until the very top. During the laying process, the cavity inside the pillar is filled with mortar. In two places, fence veins are welded to each pipe. They should all be on the same level.

To pass them through the masonry, use a grinder to cut bricks. The joints are made very carefully, observing the dimensions and depth of the grooves. The ebb is attached to the base on top. In the end, you should get the skeleton of the future fence. A visor is attached to each post.

Sheets of corrugated sheets are secured to the veins with self-tapping screws in each wave.

Brick base of the future fence.

If the height of our fence is 2 m, and we make the base in 3 rows, then we can count the number of bricks in two ways: by rows and by volume. The first method is more accurate, but also more cumbersome, so we will use the second. The volume of one column is 2*0.37*0.37 = 0.27 m3. Multiplying by the number of pillars, we get 2.2 m3. The base will require 18*0.12*0.065*3 = 0.4 m3.

In total we need 2.6 m3 of brick. Due to the fact that this calculation is not very accurate and does not take into account the thickness of the seams, you need to purchase 10% more. You can always return the excess to the store, but you may not be able to purchase just such a brick. It is easy to calculate the amount of corrugated sheeting. It is enough to divide 18 m by 1.2 m. We get 18 sheets.

You will need to buy 19, since they are overlapped, and you will also have to cut them.

As you can see, the construction of a brick fence, even with spans made of corrugated board, requires serious time, labor and financial costs. However, it's worth it. Such a fence will last for several decades.

A fence made of brick is one of the most reliable and durable. It protects the territory not only from penetration, but also protects it from the wind, preventing strangers from even looking into the area. That is why the question of how to build a brick fence is very popular among owners of private houses and novice builders.

Finished brick fencing

Step-by-step installation

The entire construction process is divided into several stages, each of which is of great importance and the correctness of its execution will subsequently be reflected on the entire structure.

A trench prepared for concreting with reinforcement, pillars and formwork

Foundation

Standard construction of brick fences involves making a strong foundation (Find out also how to make a foundation for a fence). Moreover, its depth and width depend not only on the structure that it has to carry, but also on the type of soil.

This guide will use a typical design that excludes moving strata and sand.

  • First of all, you need to dig a trench, the width of which should be 10 cm greater than the expected thickness of the fence.
  • Its depth is usually about 100 cm, but in in this case you can save a little and reduce it to 60 cm.
  • Next, mark the locations of the pillars. At the same time, the instructions telling how to build a brick fence with your own hands advise not to make the distance between them more than 300 cm, and to separate the openings for doors and gates on both sides with columns.
  • After the places are marked, additional recesses for the piles begin to be made in the trench. To do this, use a drill, which is deepened by 40 cm.
  • Piles or a pipe with a diameter of about 60 mm are inserted into the resulting recesses, concreted flush with the bottom of the trench.

Concreting the foundation

  • Then wooden formwork is made, raising it 10-15 cm above the ground. It is at this height that the laying of the brick fence will begin.
  • Next, you need to place metal reinforcement in the trench, creating a frame for concreting. In this case, it is better to tie all the elements with wire so that the connection does not break when shrinking.
  • The next step is to pour the concrete. It must be compacted tightly with a stick. Can also be organized in the foundation drain holes, placing a pipe in the solution at an angle towards the street.
  • Then you need to wait a few days until the base dries completely.

Advice! Drain pipes It's best to use plastic ones. They clog less often and do not rot.

Masonry

Typically, instructions telling how to make a brick fence do not mention that moisture negatively affects the masonry. However, this fact should not be forgotten and measures must be taken to protect it.

Therefore, before starting masonry, it is necessary to put waterproofing film or roofing felt on the foundation.

  • After the moisture protection is done, you need to stretch a long thread along the entire length of the fence. It will serve as a guide for each row of masonry, being its edge.
  • Next, we build a brick fence, placing it in the middle of the foundation. At the same time, we control the horizontal with a thread, and the vertical with a level. It is worth noting that the brick of the upper row should overlap the joint of the lower one.

Brick laying technology

  • If facing material is used for work, then you should not heavily stain the surface with the solution. You must work very carefully, using a small rubber spatula and a damp sponge.
  • The pillars are made by placing masonry around the pipe, walling it inside.
  • If there is a need to install additional elements in the form of forged gratings or other materials, they need to be tied into the masonry in at least two rows.

Laying bricks requiring subsequent cladding

  • Also, the construction of a brick fence requires slight reinforcement. To do this, metal wire is laid in 3-4 rows along the entire length of the structure. It will serve as a kind of binder in the material.

Advice! After 5-6 rows have been erected, you need to stretch the rope from the bottom corner of one edge of the fence to the top corner of the other side. It will show defects in the work that can be corrected using a hammer with a plastic or rubber tip.

Finishing work

When considering how to make a brick fence, you need to pay attention to protecting the entire structure from moisture. To do this, you can use special caps that are placed on the posts (see also the article Caps on fence posts: purpose and installation). You can also apply similar protection to the entire structure.

If there is no desire to install such elements or their price is beyond the budget, then you can make a kind of waterproofing yourself.

Installing caps on the fence to protect against moisture

  • To do this, lay the entire surface of the top of the masonry with roofing material, which is secured with nails.
  • Next, they begin to add liquid glass to the cement solution, stirring it thoroughly.
  • When the clearly visible moisture in the mixture suddenly disappears, it is necessary to lay it on top of the structure, creating something like a gable roof.
  • When you make such a top with your own hands, then to increase protection against thieves, fragments are inserted into it broken glass, points up. However, this solution significantly worsens the appearance.

Options for jointing joints in masonry

  • It is worth noting that to final stage This also includes unstitching. In the photos provided you can see various options for this technique. To do this, use special spatulas with a certain notch, which are passed along the joints of the masonry, forming a beautiful protrusion or recess.

Advice! Some craftsmen use a small amount of mortar when laying so that it does not leak out. Then they're in cement mixture add dye and use it to seal the seams. This creates a very beautiful combination of brick and colored paneling.

Conclusion

After watching the proposed video, it becomes clear that erecting a fence made of brick or stone is a rather labor-intensive and responsible process.

When performing it, it is necessary to constantly take measurements to avoid the occurrence of defects in the form of distortion, bulges or depressions.

However, with strict adherence to the installation instructions, even a novice builder can perform this work.

Brick fences: a side view

One of the most reliable materials for the construction of fences, combining practical and aesthetic functions, is brick.

Laying a brick fence with your own hands different ways which are described below.

Whichever one you choose, it is important to do the job correctly, because the strength and durability of the entire structure depends entirely on the quality of the masonry.

Preparation

Before you start building a fence, you need to perform a number of actions related to ensuring theoretical and material base future construction.

These include:

  1. Determining the functions of the fence and the parameters it should have - thickness, height, shape.
  2. Project development. Depending on the complexity and size of the structure, you can limit yourself to a sketch on paper or draw up a full-fledged scale drawing.
  3. Selecting the type of brick and calculating the quantity. Single brick laying requires an average consumption of about 100 units per 1 m2, double brick laying - 200 units, etc.
  4. Procurement of materials and tools.

The drawing is made according to such parameters as height, width, shape of the fence

The last 2 points are worth considering in more detail, because in many ways they determine the service life of the structure.

First you need to decide on the type of material:

  • The most popular are red, facing and frost-resistant bricks.
  • The advantage of red is its relative availability and good strength, however, to prevent cracking and delamination of the material, it must be plastered or hidden with other protective coatings, which can negatively affect the appearance of the fence.
  • Facing brick is free of this drawback and allows you to imitate various building materials in accordance with the design concept.
  • Highest resistance to adverse effects external environment are frost-resistant brands.

Photos of popular bricks:

Facing Frost-resistant Red

Once the choice is made, the theoretical consumption of material for the brickwork of the fence is calculated in accordance with the above scheme with a margin of 5-10%.

The next step is to prepare everything necessary for construction.

The list of things to be purchased or prepared includes:

  • Bricks.
  • Reinforcement, wire, fine mesh.
  • Wide boards (can be used).
  • Waterproofing materials.
  • Cement, sand, plasticizer and water (or ready mix for masonry).
  • Crushed stone or slag.
  • Concrete mixer or deep container for preparing the mixture.
  • Shovels and trowels of different sizes.
  • Tamping.
  • Durable nylon thread.
  • Buckets.
  • Hammer.
  • Bulgarian.
  • Roulette.
  • Level.

To make the fence strong, it is necessary to provide brick columns at equal masonry intervals, in all corners, places where gates and gates are installed.

Depending on the type of soil, terrain and technical characteristics of the structure, the size of the gaps may vary between 2-6 meters.

Marking and preparing the foundation

To mark the foundation, use a tape measure and rods (wooden or rebar).

The rods are driven into the places where future columns will be installed at their corners and a thread is pulled between them at an equal height.

If span length more than 2-3 meters, it is recommended to install intermediate rods.

This is a very responsible operation, because making changes to the layout next stages will be extremely difficult or impossible.

A trench is dug along the entire perimeter with a depth of at least one meter and a width of 60-80 cm greater than the thickness of the future masonry. The walls and bottom should be as smooth as possible.

The bottom of the trench is covered with a layer of sand 10-15 cm thick and compacted thoroughly.

After this, wooden formwork and central reinforcement of the pillars are installed, and the trench is filled with concrete.

It will be possible to remove the formwork in two weeks, and after a month you can begin laying a brick fence on a foundation that has already gained strength.

Types of masonry

Laying a brick fence begins with creating brick plinth, the width of which, as a rule, is slightly larger than the main width of the fence, but less than the width of the foundation.

The base is necessary to smooth out uneven terrain and can be made from ordinary brands of brick, even if the main part will be laid out with facing or frost-resistant ones.

The base and foundation on top are covered with a waterproofing layer, represented by several sheets of roofing material or one sheet of aquaizol.

Now you can start building the pillars. To do this, central pipes or reinforcement bars, previously installed in the foundation, are lined with ring rows of 1.5 or 2.5 bricks.

The gaps between the metal guides and the pillar walls are filled with concrete upon completion of the masonry. It is advisable to cover the tops of the pillars with shaped caps, but it is more convenient to do this at the final stage of fence construction.

All that remains is to create the spans. To do this, fill the space between the pillars using one of the following types of brick fence masonry:

  • Chain ligation is an ordered arrangement of bricks in rows, in which two bricks of the bottom row symmetrically overlap one in the top row;
  • Wild dressing is an asymmetrical masonry, the only condition of which lies in the absence of coincident joints.

These are basic schemes for masonry of one brick, but they are also applicable for masonry of 1.5, 2 or more, taking into account the location of every second element perpendicular to the previous one.

In any case, it is important not to forget to lay the mesh every 4-5 rows to ensure structural strength.

You can control the width and thickness of the gaps using feelers from improvised means, and the geometry of the rows using levels.

Do-it-yourself bricklaying of a fence is a fascinating and useful, but not easy task. Accuracy, attentiveness, accuracy and patience are extremely important here.

And then, provided you follow the described technology, you can get truly reliable protection for your site for many years.

Nowadays, very often, in order to isolate themselves from the encroachments of intruders and simply prying eyes, owners suburban areas erecting brick fences. Practice shows that building a brick fence with your own hands is not so difficult, compared to the same stone fence.

Advantages of brick fences

Disadvantages of brick fences for a home

Let's look at how brick fences are inferior to other types of similar structures:

Differences between brick fences

When considering brick fences, we can identify several criteria by which they will differ:

Various types of fences made of brick blocks

Very often on personal plots you can see fences made not entirely of brick, but combined with other building materials. Such a device for fencing can significantly reduce the cost of the structure. And if you consider that brick goes well with all types of materials, then we can say that such combinations can make the fence more interesting and original.

An example of a combined fence made of decorative brick and forged fencing

Here is an example of the most successful tandems:

  • Fencing with brick pillars and wooden cloth;
  • Fence with brick pillars and forged canvas;
  • Fence with brick pillars and corrugated sheet.

Combined fences can make the site unique, and the fencing design less cluttered. Since combinations of materials significantly reduce the weight of the structure, the foundation for a brick fence can be columnar, which will save money.

Construction of a brick fence

In order to build a fence, you need to have some construction skills, as well as carefully study the process itself. In order not to lose sight of important nuances, we will divide the entire construction process into stages and consider each in detail.

  • Preparatory work;
  • Foundation construction;
  • Decoration of the fence.

Preparatory work

In order not to be distracted by trifles and speed up the construction process, it is best to take care of the availability of all the necessary equipment and materials in advance.

On preparatory stage fence designs are often carried out in order to more clearly imagine what the structure will look like, as well as to make calculations more accurately necessary materials, and find out how many brick blocks you need.

Foundation structure

As already noted, the foundation for brick fences usually performed as a ribbon or columnar. Which foundation is best depends on the specific case. Let's look at the arrangement in detail strip foundation.

Bricklaying

Since this stage of construction is the most important, it is necessary to provide all the conditions for its start, including waiting for the foundation to completely harden. Usually they wait about a day, and in the case of the construction of powerful and high fences - two to three days. Let's discuss some of the subtleties of how to build a brick fence.

The brick fence is laid according to the standard scheme.

  1. The angles are drawn first. To do this, you need to have a building level at hand.
  2. Next, the construction of walls begins. The first row is laid directly on the base, or plinth. Its horizontal position must be carefully controlled, because the quality of subsequent rows will depend on this.
  3. After a certain distance - usually two meters - pillars are erected. The lower part of the fence provides for the design of the base.
  4. After installation, all that remains is to unstitch the seams and treat them with a special compound.

Decorating the fence

When the process of laying the fence is completed, you can begin decorating work, if the projects require this. If facing bricks were used for construction, then any Finishing work may be excluded altogether. This is because the fence is made of facing bricks red or yellow looks great on its own.

Fence from white brick can be finished natural stone or its artificial analogue, similar to torn stone.

In addition, you can experiment with different facing materials, creating an unusual and original drawing.

Fence from sand-lime brick can be combined with corrugated sheets or wooden structures that will fit perfectly together. By trying to combine various building materials for the construction of a fence, you can achieve not only improvements in the appearance of the structure, but also significant savings.
