Preface
The experience of educational work and interaction with the elderly in social service centers, with children in the Orthodox-oriented children's recreation program "Star of Bethlehem", as well as with church-going adults in catechetical courses, reveals the enormous difficulties that these categories of believers experience in prayerful communication with God . Due to age, employment, or poor ecclesiastical development of children's consciousness, they do not understand the prayer books in Church Slavonic that are in general church use. At the same time, such believers sometimes have no opportunity to attend courses in the Church Slavonic language or study it at home on their own. In addition, few new Christians, due to lack of prayer and church experience, have the opportunity to read the morning and evening rules in full.
As a result of the above, an urgent need arose to compile and publish the text of the main church prayers contained in the Orthodox prayer book in Russian. The creation of such a prayer book received approval from a large number of responsible church workers and authoritative clergy, as well as Orthodox youth leaders at the conference “Youth in the Church. Problems and ways to solve them" (2005).
A short prayer book for new Christians in Russian since 2004, I have been preparing for publication. Over the years, based on consultations with specialists, the prayer book has been revised many times, in 2007 it passed philological and theological censorship, and last year it received approval from the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis. Currently, the Hierarchy is considering the possibility of publishing this prayer book. Until the appropriate decision, it cannot be officially published in printed form.

The need for daily repentance for sins committed throughout your life is explained by the words of St. Anthony the Great: “Say that you are sinners, and mourn everything that you have done in a state of negligence. Dejection is a relaxation of the soul, an exhaustion of the mind... it deceives God, as if He is unmerciful and unloving of mankind; in psalmody it is weak, in prayer it is weak... in obedience it is hypocritical.” . Laziness, as we see, is closely connected with the passion of despondency. The Orthodox Catechism lists “laziness in relation to the teaching of piety, prayer and public worship” among the sins against the 1st commandment of the Law of God.
Pre-controversy. “Bind your tongue, which frantically strives to argue, and fight this tormentor seventy times seven times a day,” teach the holy fathers in the words of John Climacus. “Whoever in a conversation stubbornly wants to insist on his opinion, even if it is fair, let him know that he is possessed by a devilish illness; and if he does this in a conversation with equals, then perhaps the reproof of his elders will heal him; if If he treats his greatest and wisest in this way, then this illness from people is incurable.”
Disobedience. “He who disobeys in word, without a doubt, does not obey in deed, for whoever is unfaithful in word is unyielding in deed,” - this is how St. John Climacus connects disobedience with contradiction. In the Church everything is built on obedience; We must obey each and everyone whom the Lord has placed over us. Complete obedience in matters of spiritual life is necessary in relation to the spiritual father, in general to shepherds and spiritual teachers. But complete and unquestioning obedience (in everything that does not contradict faith and the Law of God) must be shown by the wife to her husband, and children who have not yet created their own family - to their parents. Obey your superiors.
Slander- direct violation of the 9th commandment of the Law of God ( Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.- Ref. 20.16). Any slander, any gossip and gossip, any unfair reproach is slander. Condemning your neighbor, which is directly forbidden by the Lord, almost certainly leads to slander: Judge not lest ye be judged(Matt. 7:1).
Neglect- careless fulfillment of the duties assigned to us by God or even neglect of them. Neglect at work, neglect of your home and family responsibilities, neglect of prayer...

A particularly severe type of theft is sacrilege - “the appropriation of what is dedicated to God and what belongs to the Church” (see “Orthodox Catechism”), that is, not only the direct theft of sacred objects, but also: taking, without asking the blessing of the priest, donated on the eve or brought to the temple by benefactors for distribution, etc.
Untruthfulness- any lie in words. Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who speak the truth are pleasing to Him.(Prov. 12:22).
We must remember that there is no “innocent” lie, every lie is not from God. “A lie, in which there is no intention to harm one’s neighbor, is impermissible, because it does not agree with love and respect for one’s neighbor and is not worthy of a person, and especially of a Christian created for truth and love,” says St. Philaret in his “Orthodox Catechism.”
Nasty profitability- making a profit, profit in a nasty, unjust way. The concept can include any weight, measurement, deception, but also any income that brings evil to people - for example, based on satisfying or inciting sinful passions. Forgery of any documents and the use of counterfeit documents (for example, travel tickets), buying stolen goods on the cheap is also bad profit. This also includes parasitism, “when they receive a salary for a position or payment for a task, but do not perform the position or task and, thus, steal both the salary or payment, and the benefit that their work could bring to society or to the one for whom they should have worked.” " (see "Orthodox Catechism").
Mshelomystvo- greed, collection mshela- self-interest. This includes all types of extortion and bribery. And, since this sin is included in the prayer of repentance for all Orthodox Christians, you should carefully examine your life and discover its manifestations in it.

“If you have a grudge against someone, pray for him; and, by prayer, separating sadness from the memory of the evil that he caused you, you will stop the movement of passion; by becoming friendly and humane, you will completely drive passion out of the soul.” ( Saint Maximus the Confessor)
Hatred. He who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.(1 John 2:11). Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him(1 John 3:15). He who says, “I love God,” but hates his brother, is a liar: for he does not loving brother his own, whom he sees, how can he love God, whom he does not see?(1 John 4:20).
Extortion- “when, under the guise of some right, but in fact in violation of justice and philanthropy, they turn to their advantage someone else’s property or someone else’s labor, or even the very misfortunes of their neighbors, for example, when lenders burden debtors with an increase (loan interest), when owners exhaust dependents from them with unnecessary taxes or work, if during a famine they sell bread at too much high price" (see "Orthodox Catechism"). In the broadest sense, the word extortion generally means covetousness, greed (passion of love of money); in this meaning the word is used in the New Testament (Rom. 1:29; 2 Cor. 9:5; Eph. 4:19 and 5:3; Col. 3:5).
Serious sins committed during life, from among those that are not directly named in this prayer, should be included in it, and not “subsumed” under one of the points (for example, blasphemy, murmuring against God, or attempted suicide, or the murder of the unborn children - abortion, etc.). In particular, this list does not include sins related to the passion of fornication (and among them are adultery and any extramarital cohabitation, and all violations of purity and chastity), and to the passion of pride, which is rightfully considered the most terrible of passions.

Why are evening prayers needed?

The devil was overcome with jealousy and offended that God did not take his opinion into account, but at the same time realized how dear the person was to God. And he decided to take revenge. Since the Creator himself he couldn't do any harm, former angel decided to strike at God's beloved creation.
According to Tradition(and partly Scripture), God visited Adam at noon in paradise and taught him the secrets of the Universe. The first man alone, and then together with his woman Eve, quickly comprehended science. Adam penetrated into the essence of many things and therefore was able to give names to animals in accordance with God's plan for each of them. The devil realized that soon people would develop in such a way that they would become serious contenders in the arena of championship, which existed only in the minds of an ordinary angel who had fallen and degenerated into a sadist. Those Angels who remained with God and His truth only rejoiced at their new brother and sister, joyfully accepting new members of the huge family.
The devil decided to “seize the day” while fallen and crippled spirits still remain smarter and more experienced than simple-minded and pure people, so attached to the Father that they sacredly observe the ban on eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Then Satan, as is known, having entered the body of the serpent, crawled up to Eve, as if she were younger and inexperienced, and, having slandered the Creator that He did not allow eating from the Tree, because He was allegedly afraid that people would become like Him, he persuaded Eve to taste the fruit.
At that moment, when the youngest succumbed to cunning and distorted lies, Satan practically spiritually killed us, people: the fruit from the Tree gave such consequences that the first flesh-bearing angels were unable to live according to God and were deprived of heavenly bliss. He also killed us physically - through sin and death came to us, that is, the inability of the body to live forever. Therefore we call the devil, who was once one of the most beautiful and luminous angels, whom his fellows called Lucifer - Morning Star:
- the father of all lies,
- enemy of the human race,
- murderer
- misanthrope, etc.
But loving Father The Heavenly One did not allow his beloved creation to perish, which, like the Angels, was created eternal. People continued to grow, multiply and develop, but in different conditions, going through the harsh school of life on earth, where we were given a choice: we should continue to live with God or without Him.
On the path of each of us, regardless of faith and lifestyle, spiritual enemies who hate us have stood, stand and will stand in fierce malice, who will resort to any lie in order to seduce us, subjugate us, distract us from Heavenly Father. It is known that Satan “boasted” that he would subjugate every single one of us and rule over us in hell.
God created hell, a specially designated place from which He withdrew His active participation and grace so that those who do not want to be with Him may have such an opportunity. Michael the Archangel threw the devil there, and with him those who went over to the side of the liar and the proud went there.
And now the demons want only one thing: to drag away with them as much as possible more people to mock them for all eternity and take revenge for that God still loves man, and also for the sake of salvation and life together with him in the Kingdom of Heaven, in paradise, he was crucified for us, and even conquered death!

Brief evening prayer rule

An even more abbreviated prayer rule
Unfortunately, the modern realities of life are such that for the average Christian even this abbreviated rule, in comparison with the Midnight Office, turns out to be beyond his strength. There is no officially recognized church abbreviation of the already short rule. However, there are some options for reductions and even complete replacements posted online. How beneficial this replacement is to the soul remains an open question. But in a situation where the spiritual potential of a Christian can be expressed by the words “either this way or not at all,” it can be used as a huge assumption. But on one condition - there must be a blessing from the priest.
Blessing will allow you not to indulge in selfishness and pride, but to act out of obedience, and this is one of the virtues that pleases God.

The man soon noticed that ambiguous dreams and events that could be taken as signs or omens began to recede, and he himself stopped taking much of it seriously, focusing on more important things in his life, including the spiritual.
