Repair mixtures for concrete are used when we need to eliminate damage to the surface without dismantling and re-filling. Of course, the strength of the structure may decrease somewhat, but still the final condition will be much better than before the repair.

Below we will tell you what mixtures can be used to seal cracks and cracks, how to prepare such products yourself, and what to pay attention to when using them.

General issues regarding repair of concrete structures

Most common injuries

Concrete - pretty durable material, and it is for this reason that it is widely used in construction. However, such surfaces are also subject to wear, so sooner or later they require restoration.

As a rule, in everyday life we encounter either damage to concrete load-bearing structures(foundations, plinths, walls), or with defects in the floor screed.

The most common problems include:

  • Dusting - finely dispersed destruction of the surface layer. It occurs as a result of a violation of the filling technology, as well as with a significant intensity of operational loads. Eliminated by applying film-forming compounds - sealings.
  • Cracks - formed when exposed to heavy loads on small area, as well as during temperature deformations. In addition, concrete can crack during shrinkage.

Advice!
To avoid the appearance of deformation and shrinkage cracks, it is necessary to take measures at the stage of preparing the structure for pouring concrete.
For this, various damper tapes, expansion joints, etc. are used.

  • Traces of mechanical damage - chips, potholes, holes etc. This also includes traces from structural elements - mortgages, beacons, formwork parts.
  • Level differences caused by uneven shrinkage of the base.

And if in the latter case it is necessary to carry out a large-scale restoration of almost the entire floor, then if cracks or potholes appear, the concrete repair mixture will help restore the surface.

Types of mixtures

For execution repair work the most used different compositions. Their range is very extensive, but still it can be divided into two groups. The easiest way to analyze the characteristics of materials is by studying the table below:

Mixture type Properties Features of application
Bulk The use of components that provide increased fluidity allows particles of the repair composition to penetrate deep into damaged concrete, securely bonding to the base. Used to restore defects in horizontal surfaces - floors, screeds, ceilings, etc.
Thixotropic When mixed with water, the material becomes plastic and does not delaminate or shrink. High viscosity prevents the free flow of the composition from the damaged area. They can be used both for sealing horizontal cracks and for repairing walls. With a certain skill, it can be used to eliminate defects in the ceiling.

As for the material, non-shrink cement is widely used for the manufacture of such compositions, as well as polymers - epoxy resin and polyurethane. All products in this category are characterized by fairly rapid hardening, which is why they are used for express restoration - when there is no time to wait for a full set.

An additional advantage may be the presence of fiber in the repair mixture - steel or polymer fibers. When hardened, it strengthens the edges of the damaged base, significantly increasing its strength. True, the price of such reinforcing agents will be slightly higher.

Self-production

If you don’t want to spend money on buying branded material, then you can easily make a mixture for repair concrete surfaces with your own hands. Of course, its efficiency will be somewhat lower, but for domestic needs it is quite suitable.

To prepare we will need:

  • PVA glue or bustylate, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:3.
  • Cement – 1 part.
  • Sand sifted through a fine sieve - 3 parts.

The material is prepared immediately before the start of repairs.

For this:

  • Pour the cement-sand mixture into a container with a wide neck.
  • Add adhesive suspension to the dry material, gradually mixing the solution by hand. It is important not to overdo it with water - the composition should be quite dense.
  • When all the material is in the container, take a drill with a mixer attachment and mix the composition until completely homogeneous. As a rule, three to five minutes are enough for this.

Damage repair method

Preparing the base

Usually, any mixture for repairing concrete surfaces is accompanied by instructions that clearly regulate the process of its use.

  • First, we need to inspect the damaged area and roughly estimate the amount of material we will need.
  • Then we remove concrete fragments, dust, debris, etc. from the crack. For small defects, you can use a stiff brush, but for significant damage, it is more convenient to clean with sandblasting or high-pressure water jetting.
  • To secure the edges, the crack can be deepened 20-50 mm below the line of natural destruction. In the process of bridging cracks, cutting reinforced concrete with diamond wheels is often used, which makes it possible to obtain perfectly smooth edges and eliminate all weakly adherent areas.

Advice!
On longitudinal cracks experts recommend cutting transverse grooves in increments of about 20 cm for more effective fastening.

  • Particular attention should be paid reinforcement cage. All metal parts protruding beyond concrete covering, clean until shiny. Then we apply an anti-corrosion primer to the stripped rods to prevent oxidation of the material during the hydration of the repair mixture.
  • If the depth of the defect exceeds 50 mm, then additional reinforcement must be placed into it. The reinforcement is installed in such a way that the metal is subsequently covered with a layer of mortar no thinner than 20 mm.

After completing all this work, we re-dust the area. Then we moisten all surfaces, trying, however, to prevent the accumulation of large drops.

Preparation and application of the composition

The mixture for repairing concrete surfaces, prepared independently, can be applied immediately. And here are the compositions industrial production need to be properly diluted with water.

Only in this case will the material acquire the characteristics necessary for effective joint filling and polymerization:

  • As a rule, both flowable and thixotropic mixtures require a relatively small volume of liquid. On average, 120 to 250 ml of water is consumed per 1 kg of dry material.
  • Pour cool water in a minimum volume (exact numbers are indicated in the instructions) into a container or concrete mixer. Then add the dry component, gradually mixing the material.

Note!
Manual processing does not provide the desired homogeneity of the product, so you must use an electric mixer.
For small volumes, it is possible to use a drill with a special attachment.

We apply casting agents in this way:

  • We install formwork along the perimeter of the restored area. It is advisable that its height be at least 50 mm greater than the planned coverage level.
  • Pour the prepared fluid mixture onto the concrete, evenly distributing it from one edge to the other. This sequence of actions will avoid trapping air bubbles.
  • Vibratory compaction of the composition is not required in most cases. To remove air pockets at the junction of the surface and the formwork, it is enough to run a metal strip around the perimeter.

We act differently with thixotropic agents:

  • We collect a small amount of material on a spatula or grater.

  • We forcefully press the compound into the crack, filling it by 15-25 mm in one pass.
  • After waiting some time for the layer to polymerize, we repeat the treatment until the defect is eliminated.
  • Smooth the surface with a moistened steel float, trying to mask all protrusions and irregularities. Repeated leveling using the same tool is carried out after the mixture has set, i.e. at least half an hour after application.

To prevent the repair composition from cracking, it must be kept moist for 24 hours, and in hot weather - up to three days or more. To do this, periodically spray the restored area with water from a spray bottle or hose, and then cover it with polyethylene or burlap.

Repair mixtures are designed to eliminate various defects in concrete structures. Special formulations can be used in winter and summer, they tolerate temperature changes well, allow water vapor to pass through, are not afraid of mold and mildew, have increased adhesion, and provide a quick and durable connection.

The widespread use of concrete is due to a wide range of advantages: strength, non-flammability, durability and low cost. Gradually under the influence various factors structures begin to collapse. The reasons are different: failure to comply with the proportions when mixing, violation of the technology for laying the solution, mechanical damage, aggressive external environment. As a result, the material loses its design characteristics, cracks and chips form.

Additional concreting usually does not provide good results, so for repairs it is better to purchase specialized mixtures. They help to quickly recover geometric parameters and performance.

Situations in which their use is advisable:

  • multiple chips in the floor;
  • recesses exposing the reinforcement cage;
  • cracks more than 0.5 mm wide;
  • significant dust formation;
  • corrosion of the base (deep or surface);
  • other defects larger than 0.3 mm.

Types and characteristics of mixtures

They are sold in the retail chain in the form of dry powders, which simply need to be diluted with water in certain proportions. The finished solution fills the free space in the concrete, reliably seals and strengthens the defective surface. To impart special qualities (frost resistance, moisture resistance, high hardening speed), various plasticizers, modifying additives, and granular fillers are used.

All of them are conventionally classified according to several criteria.

1. According to the complexity of the composition.

  • One-component – cement with different filler sizes.
  • Two-component - epoxy of varying degrees of fluidity.
  • Multicomponent – polyurethane liquid.

2. According to the degree of compression.

  • Shrinkable - mixtures that shrink when hardened in air. When shrinkage is difficult to calculate in advance required quantity layers. Depending on the complexity of the repair, apply 1-2 additional times. The main advantage is the low price.
  • Non-shrinking - includes special additives with an expanding reagent. This allows you to obtain a non-separating and mobile solution that does not shrink and hardens quickly. With it you can easily repair any foundation, which ultimately turns out to be strong and durable. The only disadvantage is the high price.

3. As intended.

  • Compositions for concrete structures subject to increased mechanical loads: load-bearing walls, floor slabs, beams, columns.
  • Mixtures for strengthening reinforced concrete elements against corrosion, as well as protection against fungus and mold.
  • High strength products for road surfaces and screeds. In winter they provide additional protection from frost.

4. According to the conditions of use.

  • Molded - for screeds and other horizontal planes.
  • Thixotropic - for correcting defects on walls.
  • Frost-resistant - for outdoor concrete surfaces.
  • Fast-hardening – for urgent repairs and eliminating leaks.
  • Industrial and domestic use.

Using self-leveling (molding) types, you can repair planes up to 100 mm thick. Quick-hardening compounds are used for a working layer of no more than 40 mm.

How to choose mixtures for concrete?

When purchasing, you need to take into account the nature of the defect, the size of the damaged area and operating conditions. It is better to choose solutions that, after setting, do not delaminate and do not shrink.

The compatibility of the composition with the working surface and the level of adhesion are of great importance. U large manufacturers The product line always includes branded soil mixtures deep penetration, which bind concrete and provide reliable adhesion.

When choosing, you need to take into account the scale of the repair. Deep cracks, potholes and pronounced differences are leveled using coarse-grained mortars or fiber-reinforced mortars. For small chips and cracks, it is better to buy a version of increased plasticity containing fine fractions.

If concrete is used outdoors, in damp conditions and other extreme conditions, then the compositions must contain additives that impart special characteristics (frost resistance, water resistance, etc.). Properly selected products and strict adherence to instructions for use are a guarantee of strength and durability.

Repair technology

To correct large defects and level out differences, inexpensive sand-cement mixtures are most often used.

  • Clear work surface from dust and debris and degrease.
  • For better adhesion, treat the concrete with epoxy primer.
  • Assess the scale of repairs and make calculations required composition. Experts recommend maintaining the thickness of the screed within 40 mm.
  • Set up control beacons and lay the solution.
  • Remove excess and level using a lath.
  • Cover the finished surface plastic film and leave for 2 weeks to gain strength. During this time, the concrete should be periodically (more often in summer) moistened with water to avoid cracking.

If the size of the defects is insignificant, then for horizontal planes it is better to buy self-leveling liquid types with increased plasticity.

2. Repair cracks.

First, all the cracks are widened and cleaned. To do this, you need to cut grooves around them to a depth of no more than 50 mm. This is convenient to do with a diamond wheel or grinder. Then select the debris with a chisel or hammer drill. Work area clear compressed air or using a vacuum cleaner, prime and apply the product.

  • Cracks on horizontal and inclined surfaces Gradually fill with the solution without putting strong pressure on it.
  • To eliminate cracks on vertical planes, quick-hardening dry mixtures should be used.
  • Internal voids and very deep cracks are filled by injection using special device– packer. Remove excess compound that comes out under pressure with a lath.

After hardening, the surface is sanded.

Concrete is the most popular construction material, characterized by high durability and strength, wide application, absolute non-flammability and low cost. However, violations of the technology of its preparation and installation lead to rapid wear of products and structures. Accelerated destruction of concrete is also facilitated by operation in aggressive environments and increased mechanical loads. As a result, the material loses its design strength and becomes covered with cracks and cavities.

For restoration, a traditional solution is not used, but a specially created repair mixture for concrete with suitable technical characteristics. Such compositions are produced and packaged in the form of a dry powder, which is diluted with water in a certain proportion. To give them special properties (frost resistance, moisture resistance, speed of hardening), various ingredients are added (plasticizers, modifying additives, fractional fillers).

Ready-made compositions for concrete repair are conventionally divided into groups.

By area of application:

  • For the restoration of structures and products experiencing increased mechanical loads (beams, columns, floor slabs, load-bearing walls).
  • For strengthening reinforced concrete elements susceptible to corrosion.
  • For repairing road surfaces and floors.

According to the complexity of the composition:

  • Single-component (cement with large and small fractions).
  • Two-component (epoxy with different degrees of fluidity).
  • Multicomponent (liquid polyurethane).

There are also repair compounds for concrete with special conditions Applications:

  • Thixotropic - for vertical surfaces.
  • Casting - for horizontal planes.
  • Quick-hardening - for urgent repairs and eliminating leaks.
  • Frost-resistant - for use at low temperatures.
  • Industrial and domestic use.

Self-leveling mixtures are used when the thickness of the working layer is no more than 100 mm, and quick-hardening mixtures, which gain the necessary strength after 6 hours, are used up to 40 mm.

Selection method

Correctly selected repair dry mixture for concrete and strict adherence to the technology of its use will ensure the strength and durability of the product or structure. When purchasing a composition, you should take into account the nature of the damage, the size of the affected area and the operating conditions of the concrete. After hardening, the repair mortar should not shrink or delaminate. Its compatibility with the surface being restored and the required level of adhesion to it are extremely important. Almost every manufacturer of repair compounds additionally offers branded deep penetration primers that bind concrete and ensure high adhesion to the solution.

When choosing the type of mixture, the extent of surface damage must be taken into account. Significant potholes, cracks and differences in floor levels are eliminated with solutions with large fractions. To seal small sinks and cracks, it is enough to buy a fine-grained concrete repair mixture with increased plasticity. If a product or structure is used in extreme conditions, then the restorative composition must contain additional ingredients that give it special qualities, such as frost and water resistance.

Technology of use

Floor repair

To eliminate major damage on horizontal surfaces and differences in concrete floors, inexpensive dry cement-sand mixtures. Before application ready solution The work area should be cleaned of debris and dust, degreased, and then treated with a deep penetration primer recommended by the manufacturer. After assessing the extent of damage, it is determined required amount repair mixture for concrete. Recommended thickness cement-sand screed does not exceed 40 mm. Control beacons are set and the solution is drawn out, which will gain strength within 2 weeks. All this time, the surface of the screed, covered with plastic film, should be periodically moistened with water to prevent it from cracking. To eliminate small floor defects, it is advisable to use self-leveling, finely dispersed self-leveling compounds with increased plasticity.

Crack repair

Before using the solution, the cracks in the concrete surface are usually widened. To do this, grooves up to 50 mm deep are cut around them with a diamond wheel or grinder, and then the destroyed material is selected with a hammer drill or chisel. The work area is cleaned of debris and dust with compressed air, treated with impregnation, and then a repair solution is applied. Cracks on horizontal and inclined surfaces are eliminated using the saturation method without overpressure. To fill vertical cracks, inexpensive and practical repair mixtures MBR 300 and MBR 500 for concrete are often used, which differ in strength characteristics and hardening speed. In some cases, to fill internal voids and deep cracks, they resort to the injection method using a special device - a packer. The repair compound that has come out on the surface under pressure is removed with a lath, and after hardening it is ground.

It is generally accepted that concrete is characterized by reliability, strength and durability, but under the influence of various factors it can become damaged and begin to collapse. If structural damage has not yet led to serious consequences, they can be eliminated using a repair mixture for concrete. Such compositions are specially selected components in strictly defined proportions; after preparation (mixing), they become suspensions, solutions or other viscous masses used for repair, protection, enhancement of reinforcing properties and waterproofing of damaged areas.

The main task before starting restoration work, is the definition of technology and correct selection components. Repair dry mix for concrete is indispensable when eliminating minor damage various designs in cases where the costs associated with major repairs can be avoided. Such compositions, thanks to various fillers and additives, are well suited for restoring the surface structure of reinforced concrete and concrete structures.

There is now a wide range of these products available, with different properties, produced by different manufacturers in many countries, so the price of concrete repair mixture can vary greatly. Some brands of restorative compounds can be interchangeable, others are only suitable for certain type works

All repair mixtures can be divided into two main categories. Casting (or self-leveling) used for horizontal surfaces, and thixotropic for vertical surfaces. For example, repair mixtures MBR-300 and MBR-500 for concrete, produced by CJSC Gora Khrustalnaya Quarry, differences in markings show that the first is of the pouring type, the second is of thixotropic type.

The choice of composition is made depending on the nature of the damage, type of surface, and operating conditions.

One of the most common flaws in concrete structures is unevenness. For vertical surfaces, in this case, thixotropic dry compounds are used, which do not spread, adhere well and hold well, have minimal shrinkage, high strength, water resistance and frost resistance. Before applying them, it is recommended to use deep-penetrating, adhesion-improving primers.

Concrete structures experiencing significant loads may have an insufficiently strong surface (screeds, floor slabs, etc.) monolithic structures). Deep penetration primers are also good for strengthening them. During the inspection, exposed reinforcement may be identified; an anti-corrosion primer is used to eliminate the defect.

Particularly critical areas are restored with the help of special mixtures For quick repair, which contain fiber to improve reinforcing characteristics.

Horizontal planes that are damaged and require leveling are restored by using casting mixtures. Having a relatively liquid consistency, they are poured onto the surface in a layer of up to 100 mm, set quickly, provide minimal shrinkage and high strength.

In climates where there are frequent temperature changes, one of the most common defects in concrete structures is cracks. In most cases, their repair is carried out using the same compounds as when leveling surfaces, only using a different technology.

We make the composition ourselves

Even the strongest and most durable structures sometimes need some attention and timely repairs. If the area of damage is relatively small, you can avoid buying factory-made mixtures and make repair compounds for concrete yourself.

Most often in household screed restoration is required. In this case, to repair a small damaged area, you can make a mixture of the following components:

  • Portland cement – 6 kg;
  • quartz sand (fractions up to 1.0 mm) – 8.6 kg;
  • fine gravel (2.0 ÷ 5.0 mm) – 9.0 kg;
  • ground limestone - 0.8 kg;
  • polypropylene fiber – up to 4 g;
  • a complex of modifying additives, the composition of which depends on the characteristics of old concrete and operating conditions; these can be regulators: rheological properties; setting and hardening processes; special purpose(frost resistance, moisture resistance, heat resistance); multifunctional action;
  • water – 2 l.

The dosage of modifying additives is indicated on the packaging and usually does not exceed 0.5÷0.8% by weight of cement.

The selected and weighed components are thoroughly mixed in dry form. The required amount of clean water is poured into the empty container. fresh water, after which the bulk composition is added to it with constant stirring. In order to form a homogeneous mass, it is best to use an electric drill with a mixer attachment. Ready mixture should be used within one hour.
