The most affordable energy resource with the lowest level of harmful emissions in modern world is gas. The use of AGV for space heating is the most effective option in terms of efficiency and harmlessness. Independence from power supply and low cost maintenance allows water heaters to take their rightful place among similar devices.

AGV water heating boilers using gas as an energy carrier began to be produced by ZhMZ (Zhukovsky Machine-Building Plant) in 1967. New generation of gas heating devices capable of heating housing up to 140–200 m², the equipment can also be used to provide hot water. TO the catches are equipped reliable system automatic gas supply control.

ZhMZ products now represent about 30 types of boilers. Among them are modifications with a power from 11 kW to 68 kW - AOGV, KOV, AKGV. Certified devices that have permission to manufacture and use are capable of heating up to 610 m² of area.

Operating principle of AGV

The basis of the design of AGV devices is a cylindrical tank connected by a pipeline system to the entire heating network of the house. Inside the cylinder there is a heat exchanger - a flame tube, heated by gas combustion. In the AGV-80 and AGV-120 devices, a turbulator was placed inside, which slightly increased the efficiency of the installation.

The heating system is a network of rising pipes, radiators, expansion tank and return pipe.

This system provides full cycle of operation of the device which includes:

  • heating the coolant - water;
  • lifting the heated coolant through the ascending pipeline to heating devices - radiators;
  • heat transfer;
  • return of water to the device for subsequent heating.

Thermosiphon heating system (or system with natural circulation) does not require additional installation pumps, and compensation for water losses occurs from the expansion tank. Waste gas combustion products enter the chimney and are released into the atmosphere.

IMPORTANT! The AGV system allows you to install a pump to ensure forced circulation of water. Such a boiler will no longer be considered energy independent, since the pump requires electricity to operate.

The AGV-80 and AGV-120 devices were equipped automatic device, which prevented the flow of energy when a certain temperature was reached, when the burner wick spontaneously extinguished, the draft in the chimney decreased, or when the gas pressure in the line decreased.

When the coolant temperature decreases, the automatic sensor is triggered, turning on the gas supply to the burner.

The new generation AGV devices differ more efficient design, but all heat and water heating systems operate in normal mode gas boiler. The design differences lie in the division of the flame tube into separate sections. There is also a coil mounted in the water jacket for preparing hot water.

Advantages and disadvantages

If the thermometer readings differ from the temperature, installed handle adjustment 4 (Fig. 2) by more than ± 5 °C, it is necessary to adjust:

Set adjustment knob 4 (Fig. 2) to number 4;

Warm up the coolant in the unit to 50 °C;

Slowly rotate adjustment knob 4 (Fig. 2) in the direction of decreasing temperature until the gas supply to the main burner stops;

Unscrew the screw securing the adjustment knob and remove it;

Carefully install the adjustment knob, aligning number 1 on the adjustment knob with arrow 3 (Fig. 2) and tighten the screw securing the adjustment knob;

Make sure that the settings are correct at the moment the main burner is turned off when a correspondence is achieved between the temperature set using the adjustment knob and the actual temperature of the coolant of the device.

Malfunctions of the Zhukovsky boiler AOGV-23 and their elimination

1. Pressing the start button fails to ignite the igniter; the flame on the igniter goes out and comes off

The gas tap in front of the device is closed - Open the gas tap.

The hole in the igniter nozzle is clogged - Clean the hole with Ø 0.3 mm wire.

Gas pressure below 635 Pa (65 mm water column) - Notify the gas department.

The presence of strong drafts in the room, leading to the flame breaking off on the igniter - Eliminate or reduce drafts.

2. There is no spark between the spark plug electrode and the igniter

Large gap between electrode and igniter - Adjust the gap.

Piezo ignition does not work - Replace piezo ignition.

3. When the start button is released (after holding it for at least a minute with the igniter burning), the igniter flame goes out

Oxidation of the solder on the contacts at the junction of the electromagnet with the contact wire, weak pressing of the pins in the sockets - Unscrew the fitting of the contact wire from the gas magnetic valve body, clean the contact with a file until shiny (remove the oxide film). Screw the fitting back into the housing. Remove the sockets from the pins and lightly crimp the sockets with pliers. Install the sockets onto the pins. To avoid breaking the soldering of the electromagnet contacts and the contact wire, do not overtighten the wire fitting when screwing it into the gas magnetic valve body.

The traction sensor microswitch does not work - Replace the microswitch.

The thermocouple does not produce EMF, the end of the thermocouple has burned out (the value of the thermocouple EMF must be at least 20 mV) - Replace the thermocouple.

The igniter flame does not touch the thermocouple - Install (bend) the thermocouple so that the flame washes the end of the thermocouple (see Fig. 3).

The safety thermostat is faulty - Replace the safety thermostat.

4. The flame of the burner and igniter goes out. Automatic shutdown of the gas supply when the gas boiler AOGV-23 ZhMZ is operating. The traction sensor is triggered

Complete or partial blockage of the chimney - Clean the chimney.

The presence of strong drafts in the room, leading to the flame failure on the igniter - Eliminate or reduce drafts.

The pressure has dropped below 635 Pa (65 mm water column) - Notify the gas department.

To measure the gas pressure in the network, disconnect the igniter tube from the fitting of the valve body. Connect to the fitting measuring device.

Turn the adjustment knob, setting it to 50 - 60 °C. Press the start button all the way, then release it 2 - 3 mm and after 8 - 12 seconds. take readings from the device.

5. The response time of the automation of the gas Zhukovsky boiler AOGV-23 for draft is less than 10 seconds. in the absence of draft in the chimney. The automatic response time for traction is more than 60 seconds. in the absence of draft in the chimney.

The draft sensor is not adjusted - Adjust the sensor by: unlocking it, unscrewing (or tightening) the adjusting screw by 1-2 mm and locking it again. Check the response time. Repeat the operation if necessary.

The response time depends on the size of the gap between the adjusting screw and the microswitch button. As the gap increases, the response time increases and vice versa.

6. The main burner does not turn off

The bellows-thermal cylinder is depressurized - Replace the bellows-thermal cylinder

Thermostat is out of adjustment - Adjust the thermostat in the response ranges within 50-90 °C.

7. After turning off the burner does not turn on long time. The water in the tank is hot, the batteries are cold

No circulation in the heating system - Eliminate backslopes in the heating system. Eliminate air pockets in the heating system.

8. Presence of flame at the fire holes of the main burner when the thermostat is turned off

Leakage of the thermostat valve due to dirt - Remove the front thermostat cover. Clean the valve plug and apply sealing lubricant.

9. The draft breaker door does not rotate or rotates slowly

Presence of dirt on the door axle - Remove dirt from the door axle and the socket for installing the axle in the traction breaker body.
