To make greenhouses on your site with your own with my own hands are used various materials, starting from wood and ending with metal. The craftsmen also paid attention to such material as PVC.

Do-it-yourself greenhouses made from PVC pipes can be found quite often. This is due primarily to the relative cheapness of the material, good workability, lightness and sufficient elasticity.

A greenhouse made from PVC pipes can be assembled with your own hands quite quickly, with a minimal set of tools, and both polyethylene film and polycarbonate sheets are used for covering.

Let’s make a reservation right away: a greenhouse made of PVC pipes usually has small size and is not intended for all-season use, it is rather a greenhouse for growing early seedlings.

But nevertheless, such a greenhouse has all the elements of a real greenhouse, these are:

  • Frame;

Greenhouse made of pipes - the material dictates the shape

A do-it-yourself greenhouse from PVC pipes can be made in one weekend with minimal costs.
Let's build such a greenhouse today and look at various options its devices, both in fastening the frame and in constructing the covering. Before we begin, we must immediately stipulate one condition: a greenhouse made of PVC pipes can only have an arched shape. Why?

Let's look at an example.

  • Take a piece of PVC pipe, which is usually used for cold and hot water, measuring approximately 1000 mm;
  • Let's lay the pipe on two supports so that the ends of the pipe lie on the supports and the middle is free;
  • Lightly press down on the center of the pipe. What's happening? That's right, it sags.

If we need a PVC greenhouse with straight walls, in this case we will have to arrange additional stiffeners and stops, and this is undesirable, for this would be better suited greenhouse from PVC profile, but that's a completely different question.

  • Now bend the pipe slightly so that a kind of arc is formed;
  • If you fix the pipe in this position and press on it in the central part, you will see that the pipe has become much more elastic;
  • The usual arch system operates. We think there are no more questions. Let's get started.

Greenhouse in one weekend - material, PVC pipe

Sometimes it’s possible without a foundation

Before we begin construction, we must resolve the issue of the foundation. Since the greenhouse we are setting up will not be used all year round, and our main task will be fast construction shelters for plants, we will completely abandon the construction of the foundation.

No, of course, we will need a foundation for the greenhouse, but it will not be quite a foundation. As for the sizes. If we use polycarbonate as a covering, then the size of the greenhouse will directly depend on the size of the polycarbonate sheet bent into an arc.

Our reference is that the standard size of polycarbonate sheet is 2100 by 6000 mm.

Size selection

If polyethylene film is used as a covering, the dimensions can be arbitrary. Let's build a greenhouse the size 3820Х6300 mm.

Why did we choose this size?

  • It is important to understand that when bending a PVC pipe, we get correct arc;
  • Having a width of 3821 mm, we get half a circle with a radius of 1910 mm;
  • In other words, this is half our width and full height the resulting greenhouse;
  • If we decrease the width, the height will decrease accordingly.

As for the length, the pitch of our frame will be 900 mm.

  • Respectively, if there are 8 sections we will have 7 spans;
  • The calculation is simple: 7*900 = 6300 .

You can take a different size, the main thing is to understand the principle.

Materials for production

We will need:

  • PVC pipe 25 mm
  • Crosspiece for pipe 25 mm
  • Tees for pipe 25 mm
  • Skew tees
  • Self-tapping screws
  • Metal strip
  • Rebar or steel rod
  • Board 50X100 mm
  • Self-tapping screws, nails

Main tool

From the tool we need:

  • Hacksaw
  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver or screwdriver for self-tapping screws
  • Metal hacksaw or cutting machine
  • Welding machine plastic pipes
  • Construction tape
  • Building level

The first stage is the construction of the base

Everything is ready, let's get to work.

  • It is necessary to assemble the frame of our future greenhouse from the board;
  • Before installation, the wood must be impregnated special composition from dampness and mold;
  • The frame is installed on a leveled area of our future greenhouse;
  • Now it is necessary that the diagonal of our frame be correctly observed.

  • To do this, cut 4 pieces of reinforcement 500 mm long and drive them into the corners of the frame with inside. Before driving each segment, carefully measure the diagonal.

We arrange the fastening of the frame arcs

The frame is ready and secured.

  • We cut another 14 pieces of reinforcement, 65 - 70 mm long.
  • On our frame it is necessary to make markings with a marker on the inside of its longest part, in other words along the length.
  • The first mark is made at the very edge and then all the rest at intervals of 900 mm.
  • According to the marks made, with outside frame, we drive pieces of reinforcement into the ground so that 300 mm remains sticking out on the surface. The reinforcement is driven flush against the frame.
  • Now we make markings on the frame along the width.
  • To do this, divide the width in half and, stepping back 400 mm in both directions, make marks.

Here, too, you need to hammer in the reinforcement from the outside in the same way as we did in the first case.

PVC pipe - making arcs

The first stage of work has been completed. Let's move on to making the arcs themselves.

  • They are made as follows: two sections of pipe 3000 mm each are welded together so that they have a cross in the middle.

This is what concerns the internal arcs of the frame.

  • External elements are made slightly differently. The pipes in the center are connected not by crosses, but by straight tees.
  • The first part is ready. Arcs can be installed.

  • They are inserted into the reinforcement lengthwise on one side, bent and inserted on the other.
  • Thus, above our wooden frame we got a frame for our future greenhouse made of PVC pipes with our own hands.

Stiffening rib - installation

Now you need to install the central stiffener.

  • To do this, cut sections from the pipe PVC size 850 mm and are welded between the central tees and crosspieces. This strengthens our frame.
  • Next, it must be additionally secured to a wooden frame.
  • Made from metal strip clamps in the form of the letter Ω.

  • Using self-tapping screws, we attach the PVC pipe frame to the wooden base.

Base for door and window

The main work on the frame is completed. You need to think about the future door and window for ventilation.

Do you remember that we installed two pieces of reinforcement at our width? These are exactly the places where we will install the window and door.

  • From the reinforcement driven in width, we draw a line straight up and make a mark on the outer arc of the PVC pipe.
  • This can be done using a flat wooden batten, a marker and a level.

We have two marks on the same vertical line with the reinforcement. What are we going to do with them?

Let's insert skew tees here. You can do this as follows.

  • Let's measure the distance from the bottom of the reinforcement to the mark.
  • According to the obtained size, cut a piece of PVC pipe.
  • We weld a tee to it so that we get an element with a tee at the top. The bevel connects to the pipe.
  • Now let's cut the arc at the mark.
  • This must be done with caution, the arc is under load.
  • Next, we simply weld the tee into the resulting space. Of course, you can’t do this without an assistant.

Doors, windows, covering

The frame is ready.

As you can see, a DIY greenhouse made from PVC pipes is not anything complicated. All work can be completed in one day.

If you are planning, you can do this by simply nailing it to a wooden frame using nails and battens.

  • The door and window can also be made from sections of PVC pipe.
  • Next, they are also covered with plastic film and installed in place.

  • You can also use sections of PVC pipe as canopies, but with a larger diameter. 25 the pipe should fit into it freely.

Polycarbonate coating - device diagram

If your greenhouse made from PVC pipes with your own hands will have a polycarbonate lining, then in this case you need to proceed as follows.

  • Wooden blocks are placed between the ribs on the wooden frame.
  • Thus, you have a continuous, flat surface with ribs recessed inside.
  • Polycarbonate is fastened with self-tapping screws with the obligatory installation of thermal washers.

Our advice is that the diameter of the hole in polycarbonate should be 2 - 3 mm larger than the diameter of the screws. This gap will play the role of a compensator when polycarbonate expands due to climatic influences.

Concrete - extending the life of the greenhouse

A PVC greenhouse constructed in this way is not a long-term structure. It's all about the wooden frame of the foundation. But its service life can be significantly extended if the foundation is made of concrete.

This will not affect the structure itself at all, the manufacturing process will not change with a small exception, all the reinforcement is not driven into the ground, but is walled up in concrete.

The base is strong, and the absence of wooden elements significantly extends the service life of such a greenhouse.

Your dimensions - how to do the calculations

Small addition.

Readers noticed that we suggested our own dimensions when making this greenhouse. But you can choose a completely different size.

Someone may wonder how, in this case, to accurately calculate the dimensions of the length of the pipe for making the frame.

As you understand, our frame element consists of two pipes and forms half a circle.

The width of the greenhouse is the diameter of this circle. If we know the diameter, we also know the radius. This data allows us to calculate the circumference.

The formula in this case looks like this:

  • L = 2πR = πD
  • L – circumference
  • R-radius
  • D-diameter

Let's imagine that you needed a greenhouse with a height of 2000 mm. This means that with the correct arc its width will be 4000mm.

In this case, the diameter of the circle will be 4000 mm and the radius 2000 mm.

Usually π (pi) is calculated as 3.1416. But for engineering calculations this is a very rough derivative. In order not to bother with in big numbers you can round it up to 3.14. This will do too.

  • L = 2*3.1416*2000=12566 or L=3.1416*4000=12566

This is the length of our circumference. But we only need half.

  • 12566/2=6283 this is the length of our arc.
  • The arc consists of two pipes and a cross. This means that the result must be divided again.
  • 6283/2=3141 mm. We have received the size of the pipe we need.

Here we just wanted to show you that the calculation is not difficult and we simply listed all the steps.

But in fact, everything can be done much simpler. Understanding that an imaginary circle consists of 4 parts, we simply need to immediately divide the length of the circle by 4.

  • L = 2*3.1416*2000=12566 or L=3.1416*4000=12566
  • 12566/4=3141 it's simple.

Profile – you can do it this way

Sometimes greenhouses are made from PVC profiles. In this case, the greenhouse can have different shapes, it all depends on the desires and needs of the customer.

The PVC profile greenhouse has a very durable structure. Glass is usually used as a coating, but there are exceptions.

The PVC profile for greenhouses is exactly the same as for windows (see). Therefore, the use of glass in this design is entirely justified. Such greenhouses can be used both for a short period and all seasons.

The main advantage of greenhouses made of PVC profiles is their tightness and ability to retain heat well.

PVC profiles for greenhouses, together with the use of cellular polycarbonate, give truly amazing results.

But there is one important thing in these greenhouses.

The construction of such greenhouses at home is problematic, and the produced industrially greenhouses, have high price. Therefore, for ordinary summer residents they represent a kind of luxury element in the garden.

But everything changes over time, and individual materials become more accessible over the years. Let us hope for the best.

Option for the lazy and impatient

Materials

Let’s immediately take the bull by the collar and determine the required quantity and name of building materials and consumables that we (you) will need. This:

  • Boards and wooden blocks for the foundation. Since such a lightweight structure does not require a foundation. The thickness of the boards is flexible, from 20 to 40 mm, but this is for a large scale. Bars – from 25x25 mm.
  • The pipe is plastic, PVC, white or any other. Initially, let's focus on the specific dimensions of the future greenhouse, and we will prepare a 13 mm pipe 6 meters long in quantity 19 pieces.
  • Steel fittings or steel rods with a diameter so that they fit tightly inside the pipes. Enough 10 pieces 80-100 cm long.
  • Greenhouse film, thick, choose any one at the market or in a store, preferably something stronger (see). Standard width, 24 linear meters.
  • Consumables: plastic or aluminum clamps, small wooden boards (50 pieces), door hinges and handles, wood screws, any small nails.

Important! The wood must be good, all elements must be treated with an antiseptic or impregnated with at least drying oil. You can do both, and also paint.

Addition: a greenhouse can be built from metal-plastic pipes, the installation process is similar, choose the material yourself. Only if it doesn't cost more. It definitely won't be any stronger.

Process

Determine the location, but for now it’s better to clear it of the fertile layer by removing a few centimeters. Because during construction, nails and screws will certainly fall, shavings will fall, and fall into the soil of another construction garbage and foreign bodies that are completely unnecessary for tomatoes.

And after installation, it will be possible to fill the beds inside the greenhouse with soil. At the same time, enrich it with oxygen while you dig, loosen and move it from place to place. Especially experienced gardeners They will never forget to immediately add fertilizer (see).

So, the installation of a greenhouse made of plastic pipes with your own hands begins:

  • We take wooden blocks and make the simplest semblance of a foundation out of them, that is, we knock together a frame that we lay on the ground. To determine correct assembly, you need to measure the diagonals. If they are equal, then your frame is rectangular and not diamond-shaped. This finished frame it can be fixed very simply if you drive reinforcement into the corners from the inside;
  • How to install arches? Cut the reinforcement: each individual twig into 4 equal parts. As a result, you will have 36 pieces of reinforcement. We drive 40 cm from these pieces into the ground, let the rest remain sticking out. We hammer along the long side, approximately at a distance of 60-65 cm between adjacent ones. And we put pipes on these branches of reinforcement sticking out of the ground, so we get parallel arches along the entire length of the structure. This will be the main frame of the greenhouse made of plastic pipes;

  • At each base of these arches we fasten PVC pipes to a wooden foundation frame. It can be simple clamps, which will tightly fix the end of the tube;
  • Assemble the end structures according to the same principle, taking into account the rigidity that should still be present. The ends of the tubes are also put on reinforcement driven into the ground, and then attached to wooden frame below;

  • Check the size of the doorway while assembling it on the ground. It’s very easy to make a door together with a frame from bars; you don’t even need to cut anything at angles. Just make two rectangles, one inside the other. On the inner door (actually, the door) also nail a slanting strip to maintain rigidity. Then install the structure at the end of the greenhouse and secure it with any in a convenient way. We have hung the hinges, we will nail the handle after we stretch the film;
  • Let's unwind it and carefully begin to pull it onto the structure. It is better to do this when the sun is outside and the weather is warmer than cooler. But you also don’t need to work in the heat, otherwise the film will later thermal expansion(more precisely, the narrowing) will be stretched too tightly, which can lead to its ruptures, especially in places of contact with pipes and in kinks. You can also fasten the film at your discretion: with slats, boards, or simply place a certain number of bricks on the free ends so that gusts of wind do not blow it to the northwest.

That's it, the greenhouse made of plastic pipes was installed in half a day. Don't forget to screw the door handle.

PVC pipes have long been used for the manufacture of greenhouses and greenhouses, as this material is quite durable, flexible and reliable. You can make these products with your own hands, without the help of professionals. Both the collapsible and stationary design allows you to grow your favorite vegetables when the temperature outside is below freezing.

PVC pipes for building a greenhouse: pros and cons

PVC pipes are excellent and inexpensive material, which is used to create greenhouses and greenhouses various forms and sizes. To build them you don't need large quantity tools and special skills, so this type of construction is available even to summer residents or owners of private houses with little income.

Material advantages

This material has many advantages:

  • assembly and disassembly of the structure occurs quite quickly;
  • the disassembled structure does not take up much space;
  • the construction of a greenhouse does not require professional skills in working with the material;
  • light weight;
  • availability of materials, their low cost;
  • high degree of strength and stability of the finished structure;
  • long service life (more than 10 years);
  • the ability to create a greenhouse of any shape and size, monolithic structures;
  • resistance to temperature changes and moisture, corrosion, growth of fungus and mold;
  • environmental friendliness.

Disadvantages of PVC pipes and greenhouses made from them

There are few disadvantages of greenhouses made from PVC pipes, but they still exist. For example, when installing a structure in regions where strong winds prevail, it may become deformed. The polyethylene coating is short-lived and also has poor thermal insulation properties, so it will have to be changed every few years or purchased more expensive material, such as polycarbonate. In winter, it will be impossible to use such a design in the northern regions of the country.

There are several types of greenhouses made of PVC pipes that you can make with your own hands.

  1. Arched structures with polyethylene or polycarbonate coating.
  2. Facilities with pitched roof, attached to the main building.
  3. Greenhouses with gable roof with any type of coating.

Arched-type greenhouses are very popular, as they are easy and quick to erect and can be quickly dismantled if necessary.

Preparation for construction: drawings, dimensions, assembly diagrams

A greenhouse made from PVC pipes does not need a strong and expensive foundation, as it will lightweight design, which can be quickly disassembled. Therefore, the base can be made of wooden boards.

Must select appropriate place on the site for placing the greenhouse, check the soil so that it does not sag under the weight future design. Do not forget to remove excess debris and vegetation from the site, and, if necessary, remove part of the top layer of soil.

Dense polyethylene film (preferably reinforced) is most often used as a coating.

Dimensions of an arched greenhouse

This parameter is determined not only depending on the preferences of the owner, but also on the size of the material itself.

Usually PVC pipes are sold standard sizes(3 and 6 m). Longer ones, when bent, form an arc of the correct shape. So the width standard design is 3.7 m, length - 9.8 m, height 2.1 m.

The optimal pitch between pipes is 900–1000 mm.

Selection of materials

The quality of the product also depends on the material used:

What materials and tools are needed

For the manufacture of standard greenhouse you need to prepare the following materials:

  • five-meter boards with a section of 2x6 cm - 4 pieces;
  • boards with a section of 2x6 cm, length 3.7 m - 2 pieces;
  • PVC pipes 6 m long - 19 pieces;
  • fittings 3 meters long (Ø10 mm) – 9 pieces;
  • PVC film (thickness 6 mm) – 6x15.24 meters;
  • wooden slats (length 1.22 m) - 50 pieces;
  • nails or screws;
  • metal fastenings;
  • door hinges - 4 pieces;
  • door handles - 2 pieces.

Materials for the ends of the greenhouse:

  • timber 2x4 cm 3.7 m long for the frame;
  • 11’8 3/4” - 2 beams 3.6 m long;
  • 1’6” - 4 bars of 0.45 m each;
  • 4’7” - 4 bars of 1.4 m each;

  • 4’1/4” - 2 bars of 1.23 m each;
  • 4 bars 1.5 m long;
  • 4 bars 1.2 m long.

Required tools:

  • hammer;
  • Bulgarian;
  • electric screwdriver;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • electric saw;
  • building level;
  • roulette.

DIY construction stages

Making a greenhouse with your own hands is very simple, you just need to follow the sequential instructions:

  1. To construct the base of the greenhouse, you need to cut the reinforcement into 4 parts. You should get 36 identical sections 75 cm long. To attach the pipes you will need 34 pieces of reinforcement. Cut two of them in half, resulting in 4 rods 37.5 cm long.
  2. Next, from boards measuring 2x6 cm you need to make the base of the greenhouse rectangular shape 3.7 x 9.8 m in size. Knock down the boards with nails or screw them together. Place the base on the site. Check the evenness of the corners (90°), hammer a piece of reinforcement (37.5 cm) inside each of them to secure the structure.
  3. Drive 34 pieces of reinforcement at equal distances from each other (about 1 meter) along the long sides of the base. This should be done in such a way that the length of the rods on the surface is about 35–40 cm.
  4. Place PVC pipes on the reinforcement rods driven in on both sides one by one, bending them into the correct arc. The result should be an almost finished greenhouse frame.
  5. Use metal plates to secure the pipes to the wooden base. Self-tapping screws and a screwdriver are used for this.
  6. In order to make the end part of the greenhouse, it is necessary to make a frame from beams. Install them into the structure frame and secure with screws.
  7. Use a hacksaw to cut 4 pieces of 70 cm from the timber. Cut one end of each of them at an angle of 45°. They are necessary to strengthen the ends of the greenhouse. Fasten the frame of the side part to the base.
  8. After the frame is assembled, it is necessary to make a stiffening rib at the top of the structure. To do this, use a special plastic connector to fasten 2 pipes, cut off the excess so that the total length is 9.8 m. Attach the pipe on top of the frame in the center with plastic ties to each of the 17 arcs.
  9. Cover the pipe frame with thick plastic film with overlap at the bottom. Then secure it firmly along one of the long sides using pieces of wooden slats.
  10. Pull it with a little force on the frame, secure it on the other side. It is better to start doing this from the center, and then move to the ends.
  11. The film must be pulled well down along the end parts of the frame. Nail it to the base wooden slats. In the place where the door will be located, you need to cut a square, leaving allowances of 5–10 cm for attaching the frame. Carefully wrap the film behind the opening and secure it with nails or screws inside the greenhouse.
  12. Before installing doors, you must carefully check actual sizes opening so that it fits exactly. To install it, you need to cut bars with a cross section of 2x4 cm different sizes(4 pieces each, 1.5 m and 1.2 m long). Knock down two frames from them, fix the beam diagonally for greater rigidity of the structure. Screw the door hinges to the opening with self-tapping screws.
  13. The remaining film can be used for doors. To do this, stretch it over two frames, then also attach it with wooden slats. Screw on the handles and hinges. Place the doors on the prepared fasteners, check the evenness of the installation so that there are no distortions or large gaps.

The second option for constructing the ends of the greenhouse

There is another way to make the ends of the structure:

If you are making a greenhouse for the first time, it is recommended to listen to the advice of experts:

  1. In order for the greenhouse to be effective, it is necessary to choose a location on a site with maximum number sun rays. It is also important to consider what crops will be grown, inquire about the necessary rapid growth conditions.
  2. For the construction of an arched structure, it is best to choose flexible pipes PVC.
  3. It is best to stretch plastic film over the greenhouse frame in the warm season.
  4. If it is too hot outside, the greenhouse doors should be kept open to ventilate the room. Otherwise, condensation will collect under the film and turn into steam.
  5. In the northern regions of the country, it is best to remove polyethylene for the winter, since during heavy snowfalls it can stretch or tear. In addition, the snow will reliably protect the soil from deep freezing, as a result of which everything in the ground will be preserved. useful material and moisture.
  6. If the film is left for the winter, then it is necessary to install strong supports that will prevent the structure from falling.
  7. Instead of plastic film to cover the frame, you can buy more modern and reliable materials, for example, lutrasil, agrospan, reinforced or bubble film.
  8. Light-stabilized or reinforced polypropylene is one of the the best coatings, since it is not subject to deformation under the influence of ultraviolet rays.
  9. It is recommended to close the area under the greenhouse waterproofing film, onto which special soil and fertilizer are then poured. In this way, plants can be protected from external influence and protect them from pests.
  10. If you make a concrete base, you can grow seedlings in boxes.
  11. It must be remembered that the service life of PVC pipes is outdoors decreases significantly (up to 15–20 years).
  12. All wooden elements greenhouses must be well treated with antiseptic agents so that they are not exposed to fungi and mold.

Video: how to quickly build a greenhouse from PVC pipes

A greenhouse made of lightweight PVC pipes will allow you to always have a maximum of fresh vegetables and herbs on your table. The costs of constructing such a structure will be minimal, and its efficiency will be maximum. Having bought several plastic pipes, wooden boards and plastic film, in one or two days you can independently build a convenient and reliable greenhouse on your summer cottage.

For the construction of greenhouses and greenhouses in the country, various available materials are used - from metal rods to wooden block. Plastic pipes are especially popular, allowing you to assemble a strong and durable structure for growing vegetables with your own hands.

Advantages and disadvantages of plastic construction

On the left is a pitched greenhouse, on the right is an arched greenhouse made of plastic pipes

In terms of popularity, greenhouses made of plastic pipes have long surpassed similar structures made of wood and metal. This is largely due to high performance qualities pipes, their availability and durability.

Among the advantages of such greenhouses are the following:

Greenhouses made from PVC pipes are aesthetically pleasing and easily fit into landscape design country house or suburban area. The main disadvantage of plastic structures is their general instability in strong gusty winds.

The greenhouse can swing violently and come off the ground, which can damage the frame. But this problem is easily solved by installing special supports in the corners or perimeter of the base.

Preparing to build a greenhouse with your own hands

Before you begin making a greenhouse from PVC pipes, you will need to make a design drawing, select and calculate the amount of material required, and also prepare a place for installing the frame.

Pipe greenhouse project

Schematic design of a greenhouse made of polypropylene pipes

If you are a builder or have some experience in construction, then you can make the project and drawing of the future greenhouse yourself. In other cases, we recommend using already ready-made solutions and based on them perform the necessary calculations.

Above is a similar diagram of an arched greenhouse made of PVC pipe. Based on it, we will calculate the materials that will be required to construct the structure, and also consider the process of its assembly.

Calculation of the required material

One of the options for an arched greenhouse made of PVC pipes

The diagram above shows a standard arched greenhouse with a length of 6 m, a width of 3 m and a height of 2 m. This length and width provide sufficient space for plants to grow, and the height makes it possible to move freely around the greenhouse. If necessary, the length can be increased.

To assemble the greenhouse you will need:

The described version shows a project for a greenhouse from which the covering will be removed for the winter. If you do not plan to remove the film, then the step between the arches should be reduced to 0.5–0.7 m. This will allow you not to worry that the structure will deform under the weight of the snow. In this case, the amount of pipe required increases to 90 m.

Polypropylene pipe is well suited for constructing a strong and durable frame for a greenhouse

Plastic pipes come in several varieties. To make greenhouses, it is better to use polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or metal-plastic pipes. All of the above types of pipes are resistant to low and high temperatures, moisture and mechanical damage.

The polypropylene pipe bends poorly and has thick walls, but with sufficient force it is not difficult to bend the arch. Metal-plastic and PVC pipes are made of softer plastic - the wall thickness is no more than 1.5 mm, which guarantees higher ductility. The pipe bends easily with bare hands. When using softer pipes, it is recommended to reduce the pitch between the arches.

It is better to choose larch products as boards. Pine and spruce wood does not withstand constant exposure to moisture so well, and after 2-3 seasons the planks may need to be replaced. The same applies to base boards. If possible, it is recommended to use an antiseptic impregnation.

Necessary tool

When using a PVC pipe, it is recommended to reduce the pitch between the arches

To make an arched greenhouse you will need the following tool:

  • hammer and mallet;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • wood hacksaw;
  • screwdriver or Phillips screwdriver;
  • bubble level;
  • construction knife;
  • tape measure 7 m long.

Step-by-step instructions for building a greenhouse

After purchase and delivery necessary materials construction of the structure can begin at the work site. It is optimal if the frame is assembled by two people - the help of a partner will not hurt when bending and installing a rigid pipe.

Arrangement of a place for a greenhouse

The greenhouse is installed in an unshaded area, well lit by the sun throughout the day. The place to install the greenhouse must be level, without bumps, holes and other flaws - to prepare the base you will need a shovel, wooden pegs and nylon thread.

Preparing the site for installation of the greenhouse box and frame

The process of preparing a site for a greenhouse consists of the following:

  1. At the selected location, use a tape measure to mark a rectangular area. On each side you need to retreat approximately 30–50 cm, taking into account the size of the future greenhouse. For example, a 3x6 m greenhouse will require an area of 3.5x7 m. Wooden pegs are driven into the corners of the site and the thread is pulled tight.
  2. Along the perimeter of the marked area, it is removed upper layer turf and dig a trench 20–30 cm deep. Roofing material is laid at the bottom of the trench with an overlap of 10 cm on each side and a 10 cm layer of crushed stone is poured.
  3. If there is a slope of more than 5 cm on the site, then the area under the greenhouse is leveled before digging a trench. This can be done in two ways: adding soil or removing soil. The first method is more preferable.

If the difference in height is significant, for example, the greenhouse is installed on a slope, then a wall of brick or timber impregnated with an antiseptic is laid under the sagging side. After this, backfilling is carried out until the site is leveled.

Assembling a box for a greenhouse

The box for the greenhouse and the “anchors” are deepened into the ground by 15–20 cm

According to the diagram given above, a support base is not required for installing a greenhouse made of pipes. Instead, “anchors” in the form of tees and a wooden box are used, which are installed in the trench.

To assemble and install the box you will need:

Finally, the trench is backfilled and the level of the “anchors” is checked. To do this, a level is applied to the ends of the protruding pipe and the correct location relative to the horizon is checked.

Frame assembly technology

Frame assembly technology arched greenhouse consists of the following steps:

  1. A PVC tee is placed at the end of each pipe protruding from the ground. To make longitudinal sections at the bottom of the frame, you will need to measure the distance between the crosspieces and cut the corresponding blank from a polypropylene pipe.

    Lower pipe with a cross, recessed into the ground by 20 cm

  2. The resulting blanks are installed in the crosspieces. If necessary, the crosspiece rotates. To ensure a tighter fit, the pipe can be lightly hammered using a mallet.
  3. Before installing the arc, it is recommended to bend the PVC pipe until the desired bend is formed. Then, with the help of a partner, install the pipe into the tee and bend it until an arc of the desired height is formed.
  4. After installing the arches, it is necessary to strengthen the greenhouse structure using longitudinal and ridge strips. To do this, take a board 20x90x6000 mm and insert it from the inside of the frame. Galvanized self-tapping screws, 2 pcs each, are used for fastening. for each arch.

    Longitudinal wooden guide to strengthen the greenhouse

  5. The ridge strip is attached to the outside of the frame. To do this, the board is laid on top of the frame and fixed with self-tapping screws, one each per arch. The length of the screws is no more than 40 mm.
  6. To strengthen the gables or end wall of the greenhouse, a 20x70x3000 mm board is used. To do this, measure the distance along the center of the arc from the ground to the top point. Then, using a hacksaw, two pieces of wood are sawn off. A hole is cut in the upper part of the supports according to the shape and diameter of the pipe.
  7. The end supports are being installed. For stability, a longitudinal strip is fixed between adjacent supports. Next, similar work is performed to manufacture and install supports along the edges of the end wall.
  8. To make a door, you will need to measure the distance from the ground level to the longitudinal strip that connects the supports in the center end wall. The resulting dimensions must be reduced by 2 cm to ensure free opening.

    The end part of the greenhouse after installing the supports

  9. 4 blanks are made from a 20x70x3000 mm board for door assembly. Then, using self-tapping screws and a steel angle, the frame is assembled under the door. You can use plywood or OSB to sheath the bottom of the door.

To hang the door on supports, you will need to divide the hinge into two parts. One part is attached to the top and bottom of the central supports. The other part of the hinges is on the door frame. After this, the door is covered with film and hung in the prepared opening.

How to cover a frame with film

Various types of clamps for tensioning film on a greenhouse made of plastic pipes

To cover the frame with plastic film you will need:

  1. Reinforced film 200 microns thick is distributed over the frame of the greenhouse so that the same margin remains at the ends and at the bottom of the greenhouse.
  2. To fix the film, pipe blanks 60–70 cm long are used, which are fixed in the lower part of the greenhouse. The workpiece is applied to longitudinal pipe(between the cross) and is attached to 2 screws along the edges.
  3. The blank walls along the gables of the greenhouse are covered in a similar pattern. The film is carefully stretched between the supports and fixed using wooden slats and galvanized nails 40 mm long.

To prevent the film from fluttering in strong gusty winds, it is recommended to fix it in several places on the frame. This can be done using special sliding brackets or using a small piece of plastic pipe cut lengthwise.

You can easily make a greenhouse from plastic pipes yourself, since this material allows you to build structures of any shape and size. It will be a lightweight but durable collapsible or stationary structure with sheathing made of ordinary polyethylene or polycarbonate. In this article we will provide you with information on how to build such a greenhouse with your own hands at the lowest cost in one or more days.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material, types of structures

Plastic DHW pipes can be used not only for their intended purpose - installation of plumbing or heating, but also for the manufacture of various light and durable structures greenhouses

The disadvantages include the fact that during thermal welding, the structure cannot be completely disassembled without damaging the integrity of the greenhouse frame. Under great physical stress, the pipe can bend and even break.

Types of greenhouses

There are several modifications of greenhouses made of plastic pipes:

  • Arched type with polyethylene coating;
  • With a gable roof with polyethylene coating;
  • Arched type with polycarbonate casing;
  • With a gable roof with polycarbonate sheathing.

Preparation for construction: drawings and dimensions

Before starting to build a greenhouse, it is necessary to resolve the issue of installing the foundation. If the greenhouse is needed only in certain months, then a capital foundation will not be required. We will make a wooden base.

You will need to choose a convenient and level place in the garden, making sure that the soil does not sag under the weight of the greenhouse. To cover the frame made of plastic pipes we will use polyethylene film.

Dimensions of the arched greenhouse:

  • By bending the pipe 6 meters, we get the correct arc;
  • The width of the greenhouse is 3.7 meters, height - 2.1 meters, length - 9.8 meters;
  • When purchasing plastic pipes, pay attention to the manufacturer. Czech and Turkish companies offer high-quality pipes. If you want to save money, you can buy Chinese or domestic products.
  • For strength, you need to take pipes intended for supplying hot water, with a wall thickness of 4.2 mm (inside diameter 16.6 mm and outside diameter 25 mm).
  • Connecting fasteners made of thermoset - wall thickness 3 mm.
  • We take fittings in accordance with the diameter of the pipes to ensure the strength and rigidity of the structure.

Calculation of the required amount of material and tools for work

  • Four boards with a section of 2x6 cm - 5 meters;
  • Two boards with a section of 2x6 cm - 3.7 meters;
  • Fourteen boards with a section of 2x4 cm - 3.7 meters.
  • Six-meter plastic pipe with a diameter of 13 mm - 19 pieces.
  • Three-meter fittings with a diameter of 10 mm - 9 pieces.
  • Six-millimeter polyethylene film - size 6x15.24 meters.
  • Wooden pieces of slats 1.22 m long - 50 pieces.
  • Screws or nails.
  • Fastenings (can be used for drywall).
  • Butterfly hinges for doors - four pieces and two handles.

For the sides of the greenhouse:

From five beams 2x4 cm (length 3.7 m) it is necessary to make a frame for the sides of the structure:

  • 11’8 3/4” = (2 beams) 3.6 m;
  • 1’6” = (4 bars) 0.45m;
  • 4’7” = (4 bars) 1.4m;
  • 5’7” = (4 bars) 1.7m;
  • 1’11 1/4” = (8 bars) 0.6m;
  • 4’1/4” = (2 bars) 1.23m;
  • 4 bars 1.5 meters long;
  • 4 bars 1.2 meters long.

Tools for work:

  • Hammer;
  • Grinder and hacksaw for metal;
  • Screwdriver or set of screwdrivers;
  • Hand, electric or gasoline saw;
  • Construction level and tape measure.

DIY greenhouse made of plastic pipes: assembly steps

  1. To construct the base, we cut each reinforcement rod into 4 pieces. You should get 36 pieces of 75 cm each. To fix the pipes we need 34 pieces. We divide two segments into two equal parts and get 4 rods of 37.5 cm each.
  2. From 2x6 cm boards we lay out the base of a rectangular greenhouse 3.7x9.8 meters. We connect the frame with screws or knock it down with nails. After making sure that all the angles are 90°, we fix pieces of reinforcement 37.5 cm long into them.
  3. To construct a frame from pipes, you need to take 34 pieces of rod (75 cm) and hammer them at the same distance (about 1 meter) along the two long sides of the base of the structure parallel to each other, 17 pieces each. At the top there should be rods 35 cm long.
  4. Next, we put 17 plastic pipes onto the reinforcement stakes driven in on both sides, bending them into an arc. We get a preliminary greenhouse frame.
  5. We fasten the plastic pipes to the wooden base with metal plates using self-tapping screws and a screwdriver.
  6. To install the end, it is necessary to assemble a structure from beams, as shown in the photo below. Install them into the greenhouse frame and connect them to the base with screws.
  7. From a 2x4 cm beam we cut out 4 pieces 70 cm long. At one end of each beam we make an angle of 45°. These bars are designed to strengthen the ends. To do this, we fasten the end frame to the base, as in the photo below.
  8. After we have made the frame, we need to make a stiffening rib at the top of the structure. To do this, you need to connect two pipes of 6 meters each with a plastic connector, and cut off the excess to get a length of 9.8 meters. We secure the pipe using special ties to the central part of each of the 17 arcs.
  9. Cover the greenhouse with plastic film. The entire greenhouse should be completely covered with film with a large overlap on the sides and length. On the larger side of the greenhouse, the film must be secured with prepared slats, nailing them to the base.
  10. Then pull it well and secure it on the other side as well. We recommend starting to attach the film from the middle, gradually moving to the sides.
  11. Advice: if you fix the film at a positive temperature, then in the future it will stretch and sag less.
  12. On the sides, you need to pull the film down, carefully fold the excess into convenient folds, moving from the center to the edges, and nail it to the base with slats. Where the door is located, you need to cut a square for the opening, leaving allowances for fastening of about 5–10 cm. We wrap the film behind the opening and fasten it inside the greenhouse with nails or self-tapping screws.
  13. Before final installation of the doors, it is necessary to check the actual dimensions of the opening, as they may turn out slightly different, and the door itself may not fit in size. To assemble the doors, you need to cut bars with a cross-section of 2x4 cm (4 bars 1.5 meters long and 4 bars 1.2 meters long). Make two frames out of them. You need to nail a beam diagonally for rigidity. We fasten the hinges to the opening with self-tapping screws. Doors should be on both sides of the greenhouse.
  14. The remaining film will go on the doors. It must be pulled over the frames of two doors and secured with wooden slats. There should be a film reserve of 10 cm on all sides.
  15. We screw the handles and put the doors on the hinges.

Second version of ends

  1. You can make the ends of the greenhouse from a sheet of fiberboard, chipboard or OSB. Wooden frame ends remains the same. Before covering the greenhouse with polyethylene, it is necessary to cut out elements from the selected sheets, as shown in the photo. We take measurements on site.
  2. At the bottom we attach the sheets to the wooden base and on the sides to the frame using self-tapping nails. At the top you need to take long 6-meter pieces of foam rubber or other soft material and fasten the first pipe of the structure and wooden ends together with them. We do this using self-tapping screws so that the ends do not fall off in the future.
  3. Then we stretch the film onto the greenhouse in the same way as in the first case, but now we do not give a large allowance at the ends. We secure it with slats. We install doors.

Greenhouse made of plastic pipes coated with polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is one of the most best options coating that will last for many years. This material is resistant to temperature fluctuations and has good thermal insulation properties, does not burn, protects plants from UV rays.

The location for the greenhouse should be level and fully illuminated by the sun. If you will use the greenhouse in winter, then you need to install a heating system. It is not rational to build a large greenhouse, since it will be difficult to maintain the required microclimate in it. The height of the structure should be no more than 2 meters. The width of the frame is selected depending on the number of seedlings.

Materials

  • Plastic pipes (for hot water supply).
  • Boards 10x10 cm.
  • Beam - 2x4 cm.
  • Polycarbonate sheets.
  • Reinforcement - length 80 cm.
  • Plastic tees.
  • Metal staples, plastic clamps.
  • Construction cord.
  • Self-tapping screws, screws, nails.
  • Sand, waterproofing material (roofing felt).

Parts for doors and windows

Tools for work

  • High level of construction.
  • Long tape measure 10 meters.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Knife for cutting plastic pipes.
  • Electric or cordless screwdriver.
  • Electric drill.
  • Set of drills.
  • Hammer.

Stages of assembling a greenhouse from plastic pipes and polycarbonate

  • For the base, we take a 10x10 cm beam and treat it with antiseptic agents. We make blanks: two beams 3 and 6 meters long. We connect them into a rectangle using metal staples or self-tapping screws.
  • We dig a trench under the base. We mark the perimeter with pegs and stretch the cord around the entire perimeter. To control the correctness of the angles, we also stretch the cord diagonally. Their length should be the same.
  • The depth of the trench should be about 5 cm so that the timber is not completely buried in the ground. Sprinkle a small layer of sand at the bottom of the trench. We cover the beams with roofing felt and lower them into the trench to avoid contact of the tree with wet soil. We overlap the waterproofing. We fill the remaining space with earth and compact it well.
  • We cut the reinforcement into 14 rods about 80 cm long. We drive them along both long sides of the frame to a depth of 40 cm in increments of 1 meter. The rods must be located strictly opposite each other.
  • We put pipes on the fittings, creating an arch. We fix them to the base using staples or clamps with self-tapping screws. We fasten the stiffening rib from the plastic pipe at the top with plastic tees, which must first be machined so that the pipe passes through them. Then the tees can be secured with self-tapping screws and the greenhouse will be collapsible.
  • At the ends we make a structure for installing doors and windows. We make blanks from plastic pipes the right size. We connect them using corners and tees into the structure shown in the drawings.
  • To make hinges, we take a piece of pipe 10 centimeters long with a diameter of 1-1/4. We glue them together with PVC pipe glue and fasten them to the frame with screws.
  • We make the latches from the same piece of pipe, cutting off a fourth of it and cleaning the edges. We install the doors and windows on the sides of the greenhouse and secure them with latches or screw them with self-tapping screws.
  • To cover a greenhouse with polycarbonate, you need to know several nuances: the fasteners are placed in increments of 45 mm, the sheets are mounted end-to-end and connected with a special fastening - a strip (or overlapped by several millimeters), holes are drilled 1 millimeter larger than the diameter of the screws. Sealed thermal washers are placed under the screws, the sheets are placed so that the cells are positioned vertically, the protective film is removed after final installation, and the corner lines are fastened with a special profile.
  • Polycarbonate should only be stored in a dry place with low level humidity.
  • Before laying polycarbonate on the structure, it is necessary to cover the ends with perforated tape and a side profile, which provides drainage and air circulation in the sheets so that condensate flows freely from the channels. We lay polycarbonate sheets protective film up. Otherwise, the material will quickly collapse.

Note to summer residents

  • If the weather outside is too hot, then the doors of the greenhouse on both sides of the ends must be opened for ventilation.
  • In the northern regions of the country, where there is heavy snowfall, it is necessary to remove the polyethylene for the winter, as it can stretch or tear greatly. Snow also perfectly protects the soil from freezing, helps retain nutrients in it and nourishes the soil with moisture.
  • If you do not remove the film, then you need to put strong supports in several places of the frame.
  • Instead of polyethylene, you can use durable film such as lutrasil, agrotex, agrospan, reinforced or bubble. The 11 mm thick reinforced film can withstand the weight of wet snow, hail and strong gusty winds.
  • Light-stabilized polypropylene with aluminum reinforcement is resistant to thermal deformation and UV radiation.
  • If possible, the area under the greenhouse should be concreted so that the wooden base does not stand on open ground, if you will keep seedlings, and then large plants, in special boxes.
  • The service life of plastic pipes indoors is about 50 years. They will last about 20 years outdoors.
  • All wooden elements must be treated with antiseptic agents.
