The question of why a rope ladder is needed can be answered in different ways: for cleaning a well, for children's house on a tree, for use on a hike or, for example, for a children's playground.

Branch steps

A knotted staircase consists of wooden steps connected on both sides by ropes using knots. To make a rope ladder, you don't need to drill into the wood.

It is better to sand the cuttings for steps so as not to get splinters later.

  • Prepare all required material for work:
    • two spools of polypropylene rope (its length depends on the final length of the rope ladder, taking into account that the ladder will be approximately two times shorter than the original length of the rope) - such a rope is not afraid of water and is characterized by good strength, wear resistance and low weight;
    • cuttings for steps - if you are assembling a rope ladder “at one time”, you can use thick, strong branches, sawn into pieces of a certain length (about 30-35 centimeters).
  • Stepping back 6-7 centimeters from the edge of each step, make small indentations in them with a knife - they will prevent the rope from slipping.

Notches on the steps

  • Singe the ends of the rope to prevent it from unraveling later.
  • Take the first step in your hand and tie a rope on it like this:

  • Step back on the rope 25-35 centimeters and tie the second step. Continue in the same manner until your staircase reaches the desired length.
  • It is better to tie the second rope (on the other side of the step) after you finish assembling one side of the ladder.
  • Do not try to immediately tighten the knots on the second rope - first make sure that the steps are parallel to each other.

Staircase with holes in the steps

Rope ladder steps

This version of the ladder will require a little more effort and therefore is most often used to make a product that will be used repeatedly. Such a rope ladder can, to the delight of children, be attached to a children's playground - it is durable, comfortable and reliable enough to withstand not only the weight of a child, but also an adult.

  • Start assembling the stairs by making steps from wooden blocks with a section of 6 by 4 centimeters, 35 or 40 centimeters long (the size is indicated for a staircase designed for an adult; for children's town you can make the rope ladder a little narrower). Three to five centimeters from the edge of the block, using an electric drill, make a hole in the center with a diameter of about 1 centimeter (the rope will be threaded into the hole twice, so after drilling one hole, make sure it is the right size).
  • All steps must be thoroughly sanded (you can do this manually or using a sander).
  • If the rope ladder will be on the ground most of the time fresh air, then the steps must be treated with special protective compounds for wood - this will extend their service life. It is best to paint the steps in two or even three layers.
  • While the steps are drying, prepare two ropes of the required length. To prevent them from starting to bloom, the ends should be scorched a little.
  • After the steps are completely dry, you can begin assembly:
    • take the step and pass the rope through the hole from bottom to top (leave a “tail” 20-30 centimeters long at the bottom - it can then be tied in a knot to “secure” the bottom step);
    • then throw the upper part of the rope down and again thread it through the same hole from the bottom up;
    • pull the rope tightly.
  • Similarly, attach the remaining steps to the rope, each time retreating 30 centimeters (this will be the distance between the steps).
  • Take the second rope and repeat the entire process on the other side of the steps. Don't forget to check that they are horizontal.

Stairs without steps

Step knot

The simplest option is a ladder without steps, in which strong nodes serve as footrests. How to tie them correctly is shown in this video:

This ladder is suitable for use on hikes, when, for example, you need to climb a tree, but do it in the usual way(by branches) it doesn’t work. However, only people who are well physically prepared and familiar with rope climbing, not only from TV or from school physical education lessons, can use such a ladder.

We often ask our readers to share personal experience, talk about your observations and let us know if anything needs clarification or correction. In this subheading we will post a comment from our reader Alexey Merentsev, who shared his experience. We are pleased to present this material to your attention, slightly edited:

“There is a special unit for this element, it looks something like the photo below.

Rope-ladder

The knots on each stick are knitted symmetrically, with the top loop inward, so that it does not fall off.

  • the rope is threaded into the hole from above,
  • after that it is wrapped around the stick “with the loop inward”,
  • then at the bottom it is threaded into the bottom loop and goes to the next stick.

These knots, unlike any others, will not slip, do not tighten tightly and are beautiful in their simplicity. They went to all Soviet DSKs.”

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands

Purpose of the stairs

The main function is the need to periodically perform maintenance or repairs on the structure. This happens if the well head is not sealed with anything (lid or other decorative design), then foreign objects may occasionally fall into the shaft. To keep the water clean, they need to be pulled out. To solve the problem, again, a ladder is used.

During operation, a circuit break may occur. To restore the structure, we will have to somehow organize a descent down. These are the main points when it is necessary to use ladders for wells. Considering that all the described cases do not require daily human intervention, the most convenient is a removable option with compact dimensions and light weight, which is exactly what the rope version is characterized by.

Well cleaning and repairs are carried out using a ladder

Existing types of stairs for wells

Depending on the user's requirements for the release device, you can choose one of the following options:

  • metal brackets that are mounted into the wall of the shaft;
  • an extension ladder made of wood or metal;
  • rope construction.

It is advisable to consider staples in cases where other solutions are not suitable for various reasons. There are several significant disadvantages to metal steps built into the wall of a well. First of all, there is a risk of rust formation.

Tip: To extend the service life of this design, it is highly recommended to coat the brackets with anti-corrosion paint.

In addition, damage to the surface of the brackets over time can lead to leaks in the shaft. For this reason, this option cannot be used in drinking wells. And as a ladder for sewer wells- acceptable.

Well ladder made of metal brackets

An attached structure made of wood is much better than the solution just discussed. It is stable and easy to climb down thanks to its inclination. However, there are also some disadvantages: the attached version is not used in deep water wells, since in this case the ladder for cleaning the wells must be quite long, and this not only complicates the transportation and operation of the product, but also complicates its storage.

Similar metal version an attached structure is little better than a wooden one, since it is even heavier, and it is very difficult to transport such a metal ladder for a well on its own, much less install it in a shaft. The main advantage this decision is the presence of hooks in the upper part, which allows you to hook the structure to the head of the well.

Metal ladder in a well

Rope versions are in many ways more convenient to use, store and transport. This is due to the compactness of the design itself (a small width of the steps for descent is sufficient), and relatively low weight due to the type of materials used. In addition, you can make it yourself in a short time.

The rope ladder is lightweight and takes up minimal space

Review of the advantages of rope structures

Comparing with analogues, we can highlight a number of significant advantages, thanks to which the task of maintaining a well is simplified:

  1. Mobility, due to the low weight of the materials used in manufacturing. This allows you to transport the ladder to any distance without the need to involve assistants.
  2. Compact dimensions that open ample opportunities for storing the product.
  3. The ladder can be easily adjusted in length, so it can be used to service wells of any depth.
  4. The affordable cost of materials allows you to avoid large expenses.
  5. Easy to install, since the manufactured one does not require special knowledge to implement such a solution.
  6. Possibility of use for absolutely any task of organizing descent.

Such a design can be used even in situations where it would seem problematic to descend to a certain depth.

Safety requirements for operation

Despite a fairly large number of advantages, such structures can be dangerous if they are made without relying on the basic safety requirements:

  1. In order to avoid restrictions on the use of the ladder in the future, it is necessary that the maximum supported weight of the product reaches 360 kg. This will ensure that the structure can be used by adults of a large weight category.
  2. If the task is to make a mobile ladder for descending into a well, then its total weight should not exceed 20 kg, which will be determined by the dimensions (width and length) of the product, as well as the materials used.
  3. To avoid direct contact of the steps with the shaft wall, the structure is equipped with special stops, the length of which can vary between 11-22 cm.
  4. The steps can be round or rectangular section. In the first case, the minimum acceptable value of the parameter corresponds to 2.6 cm.
  5. The steps should be located at a distance sufficient for a step (no more than 35 cm).
  6. The rope ladder for servicing the well should not be narrower than 25 cm. The recommended length for trouble-free operation is 15 m.
  7. The steps should have smooth corners, as sharp edges can injure a person.

As you can see, it is quite possible to create a simple and lightweight design, which will not take up much space during storage and will be operated without unnecessary difficulties.

What materials are acceptable to use?

To ensure the ability to support a fairly large weight (for example, one or even several adults), it is recommended to choose a material from several recommended options.

To create the basis of the structure, the following are used:

  • polyester;
  • cotton fiber;
  • rope made of flax or hemp;
  • nylon materials.

Each of the options is characterized by a high degree of strength, ease of use (fold the rope structure and unfold it), not to mention ease of transportation.

Considering natural and synthetic fibers, the choice is often made in favor of the last of these materials due to the fact that it is characterized by greater moisture resistance, long term service, as well as increased resistance to aggressive substances, in particular solvents.

When making a ladder into a well with your own hands, it is also necessary to select the materials from which the steps will be made.

As suitable options are considered:

  • metal (usually light alloys, so as not to weigh down the structure);
  • wood is the most common solution;
  • plastic;
  • the same rope from which the base of the structure was made.

Strongest metal steps, however, if the edges are poorly processed, the rope will fray, since the fastening points are in very close contact with the steps. Wood and other materials are lighter, but, accordingly, less reliable, with the exception of rope, but this is not an ideal solution, since in this case it is not very convenient to use the ladder due to the lack of structural rigidity.

Manufacturing instructions

Method 1

When the question is how to make a rope ladder with your own hands, you need to prepare a reliable option for attaching the steps. This is the “Constrictor” knot.

Constrictor knot

Knitting with a “Constrictor” knot does not involve drilling holes, but for the strength of the structure you need to make grooves, stepping back 1 cm from the edge of the handle on each side. Recommended slot dimensions: depth 0.3 cm, width 1.5 cm.

Tip: To simplify the task, you should mark the location of the grooves, make cuts, and only then use a sharply sharpened knife to make grooves of sufficient size.

After completing this work, the surface of the step is treated with sandpaper until the chips and roughness are completely smoothed out.

Having prepared the tree, it is necessary to process the ends of the rope. This can be done by singeing the material along the edge, or during cutting, use a very hot knife, which performs two functions at once: cutting the rope and processing the edges. Next, observing the step, loops are made on each of the ropes with a diameter slightly larger than the steps, and the cuttings are fixed with them. This is done based on the fact that the distance between the steps will be 35 cm.

The cuttings, acting as steps of the staircase, are tied with a knot

The loops at both ends of the ropes remain empty, thereby ensuring the fixation of the structure. Their diameter should be about 6 cm.

Method 2

Making a rope ladder with drilled rungs

The process described above is clearly shown in the video.

Thus, simple calculations in practice confirm the possibility of manufacturing a rope structure. This will not cost much, given the cost of the basic materials, and the work is carried out quite quickly, since the main difficulty lies in preparing the crossbars (marking holes at a certain distance). In terms of efficiency in use, this option is the most preferable among others. And although the price for ready-made stairs for wells is not so high, it can be much nicer and more interesting to do such a thing yourself.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands - 3 manufacturing methods

Rope ladder - very useful device, which is widely used in many areas of human activity.

Where are they used?

Although some functions are a thing of the past, they still exist:

  • ships are equipped with storm ladders designed for emergency boarding of people into boats;
  • a mandatory attribute of climbers’ equipment;
  • used as rescue ladders , adopted by firefighters and emergency services for the evacuation of victims;
  • indispensable in everyday life and household use. When conventional structures will not help, for example, if necessary, go down into a well. And of course, if there is a child in the family, a children's hanging ladder is at the same time the most interesting toy and an excellent sports exercise machine;
  • adaptations for disabled people remain in demand , which help a person move from a lying position to a sitting position and vice versa. The ladder for bedridden patients is made of dense, non-stretchable rope and can withstand a weight of 130 kg or more. As a rule, there are 4 or 5 wooden crossbars.

Photo gallery: use of rope ladders

Of course, rope ladders are not intended for everyday use, since they are not very convenient and will not replace conventional marching structures. But they still have a number of undoubted advantages: light weight, compactness, versatility, ease of production - the ability to make a rope ladder without the help of professionals.

Safety requirements

Rope products are subject to certain requirements aimed at ensuring safety.

  • steps should not have sharp corners that could injure a person or interfere with his movement;
  • the hanging staircase must have a length of no more than 15 meters, and the width cannot be less than 25 cm;
  • the distance between steps should not exceed 35 cm;
  • the rope product must have steps, the configuration and size of which ensure safe and convenient movement. If the steps are round in cross-section, then their diameter cannot be less than 2.6 cm;
  • the portable ladder must be mobile and weigh no more than 20 kg;
  • a product that will be used by adults must withstand a weight of 360 kg;
  • must be equipped with stops that will not allow you to touch the wall. The length of the stops can vary from 11 to 22 cm;

What materials to choose

To make a ladder, you first need a strong rope. The most commonly used models are from synthetic materials: nylon, nylon, lavsan and others, as they are the most practical and durable. For a sports corner or a Swedish wall, it is better to choose a cotton rope. If you are going to decorate a room in nautical style, then you can’t do without a ladder made of flax or hemp.

Steps are most often made of wood, but metal or plastic is also used. Sometimes products do not have steps, but loops or knots are tied instead.

Depending on what the staircase is needed for, the materials for its manufacture will be selected. Thus, the rescue ladder used by firefighters is made of non-combustible materials. For climbers, the main requirement is strength and frost resistance, and for tourists and climbers - lightness and compactness. If the product will be used exclusively in household as a children's staircase or decorative element , then the choice of materials will depend on your preferences rather than on urgent needs.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands - manufacturing and assembly methods

Universal

We will make a universal ladder that will be useful in any household. For this we need:

  1. Two polypropylene ropes same size, 20 meters each. Polypropylene is good because it is durable, does not stretch and does not lose its qualities when wet. The diameter of the rope should not be too small, otherwise it will cut your hands and the strength of the structure will also suffer. The optimal size is considered to be a diameter of 8 mm or more. When choosing the length, keep in mind that depending on the method of attaching the steps, the length of the finished ladder is half, and sometimes 1/4, of the original length of the rope.
  2. Shovel cuttings, which can be bought at any hardware store, are perfect for making steps. They usually have a diameter of 3 cm and a length of 140 cm. If you are designing a children's staircase, then thinner rake handles can be used.
  3. For tools, prepare a fine-toothed hacksaw, fine-grained sandpaper and thick thread.

Let's look at the staircase manufacturing process step by step, everything is very simple, and now you will see for yourself.

  1. The cuttings are cut into pieces of 30 cm each. There should be 25 pieces. In this case, there will still be a meter segment left, which will be useful for fastening the structure. The steps are processed with sandpaper. Be sure to make sure that the surface is perfectly smooth;
  2. To prevent the nodes from slipping, it is necessary to make slots 3-5 mm deep and 15 mm wide at the edges of the steps. To do this, mark the steps, make two circular cuts on each edge at a distance of one and a half centimeters from each other, and then use a knife to make grooves. To increase the service life of the product, the steps are processed special compounds or covered with paint. Remember that the surface should not be slippery.

This is a self-tightening knot that provides a very good hold. But it should only be used on objects without sharp corners, preferably round ones, like our steps. If the ends of the rope, after the knot is tightened, go strictly perpendicular to the axis of the steps, then the knot is tied correctly. It must be remembered that it is extremely difficult to untie the constrictor, so do not tighten it until you are sure that the steps are positioned correctly.

Video: how to tie a Constrictor knot

In this way we methodically connect all the steps. We also tie loops with a diameter of 6 cm at the ends of the ropes. If everything is done correctly, then you should have a strong ladder 11 meters long.

With rectangular steps

The second method is more labor-intensive and differs in that the rope will pass through the holes in the steps, rather than wrapping around them in a knot, as in the first case. This time for production we will use rectangular steps 40 mm long, and replace the polypropylene rope with nylon.

  1. The rope is prepared in the same way as in the first case: it is cut to the required length with a hot knife, the ends are processed with fire and harsh thread. Loops can be tied if desired.
  2. Next, we connect all the steps using the method outlined in the pictures. To fix the bars at the same distance, we still use the device described above.

Before use, be sure to check the ladder for strength and pay special attention to the installation method. For example, a children's ladder can be attached to a wall bars, or another option is when a suspended ladder is supported by two anchors mounted in the ceiling.

No steps

When there is not enough time to make a rope ladder, there is no point in building the first two options, but a design in which the role of steps is played by ropes tied with special knots is just right. If you have certain skills and a strong long rope, such a product is easy to make yourself.

Staircases with “burlatsky” loops are especially popular. The advantage of the Burlatsky loop is that it turns out to be a loop, not a knot. It is comfortable to put your foot in and easy to hold with your hands. After use, the loop can be easily untied without damaging the rope itself.

The burlat loop is knitted quite easily: first, the rope is twisted twice, resulting in a figure resembling a figure eight. The lower part of the figure eight is stretched, as shown by the horizontal arrows in the figure. The upper part of the figure eight is stretched inside the resulting circle, in the direction of the arcuate arrow.

There is an easier way that will allow you to make a ladder in a couple of minutes.

Rope railings in the interior

Rope railings are an unusual solution that should be considered while designing the staircase. Unlike subsequent options, this decoration method cannot be used for finished product, since specially prepared balusters with holes for ropes are required. Several tightly stretched ropes will not only provide a reliable support that will ensure safe movement along the stairs, but also original element interior

How to apply

Wrapping the railings with rope - great way decorate the stairs. Pleasant to the touch texture and associations with a marine theme will create a unique atmosphere. The manufacturing process is as follows: cut the rope to the required length and fasten it to the railing so that it holds well. To do this, use special glue on water based which can be easily washed later.

Rope handrail

How do you like the idea of replacing traditional handrails with a tension rope? The success of this venture largely depends on correct location fasteners that will support the entire structure.

Install several brackets so that the rope located between them does not sag. Such nodes carry not only a functional load, but also play the role of a decorative object.

DIY rope ladder

A rope ladder is a useful thing. It can be useful in the household, it can be equipped with a children's sports center. Making a rope ladder is not at all difficult, even in camping conditions.

Where are rope ladders used?

Despite the fact that this device is not universally popular and in demand, in some cases it is impossible to do without a rope ladder.

Children's hanging house or sports center. The rope ladder in these structures helps develop flexibility, dexterity and endurance in the child. Also serves as additional entertainment.

Special bedside stairs

Rope ladders are actively used by rescue services of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and fire departments to rescue people.

For household needs. Rope ladders can be used for cleaning wells, for repair work V hard to reach places, for example, the facade of a house or roof.

Rope ladders are included in the equipment of climbers, and ships should also be equipped with lightweight and durable structures. The ladders are intended for boarding lifeboats in emergency situations.

Sometimes rope ladders can be made for decorative purposes if, for example, a children's room or living room is decorated in a marine style.

Rope ladder as decor

Material from which the structure is made

Crossbars. These staircase elements can be made from various materials: metal, plastic, wood, rope. The main thing is that they fully fulfill the function assigned to them: they can withstand the weight of a person without deformation or kinks.

Sidewalls or bowstring. These elements are made from rope. The material is selected depending on the application of the product: for children's sports corners it is better to use natural rope. For household needs, it is recommended to use synthetic options: lavsan, nylon, nylon. These materials are designed for high loads, they are not afraid of humidity and temperature changes.

It's worth knowing that there are special types ropes having certain characteristics. Thus, ladders for the Ministry of Emergency Situations and firefighters are made of high-strength and non-flammable material. Mountaineering ropes can withstand low temperatures, and thin, strong and lightweight ropes have been developed for climbers. When making a rope ladder, you can use special models of ropes, this will help make the structure strong and durable.

Requirements for a rope structure

The standard width of the structure should not exceed 40 cm and the length 14 meters.

The steps should be smooth, without sharp protrusions or corners. When ascending and descending from the structure, a person should not injure himself or get caught on elements.

The crossbars must be at least 3 cm thick in diameter.

The entire staircase structure should not weigh more than 20 kg.

Rope ladder with wooden rungs

Crossbars with holes

To make the structure you need wooden rectangular bars, 2.5 cm thick, 3.5 cm wide. It is not recommended to use glued or tenoned blanks for crossbars. Under load, they can fall apart into fragments. It is best to use solid wood without knots. The width of the workpieces should not be more than 40 cm. The number of crossbars depends on the required length of the structure. You also need to take into account the acceptable distance between steps - no more than 36 cm.

The bars require preliminary preparation. Sharp edges need to be sanded to give the crossbars a smooth finish. Then, using a drill, holes are drilled at the ends of the workpieces. It is important that the holes are not located at the very edge wooden beams, it is best to drill 3-4 cm from the edge.

If the ladder will be used outdoors, it is recommended to treat the wood with protective materials.

Ladder rope should not stretch, even when wet or under heavy loads. Therefore, it is best to use non-elastic synthetic options, for example, nylon rope 8-9 mm in diameter. The length of the rope is calculated very simply: the length of the entire staircase structure multiplied by two + 1-1.5 meters by the nodes on the rungs. Best left to connections more material, the remnants can be easily trimmed.

DIY rope ladder

Knot for reliable fixation of the step

In the same way, the remaining crossbars are strung onto the rope at the same distance and secured with reliable knots.

When the ladder is ready, you should not immediately test it at high altitude. It is better to conduct preliminary strength tests at 1.5-2 meters. To do this, hang the structure on a horizontal bar or on a tree branch and check its safety and reliability.

For this design it is advisable to use round wooden blanks. You can buy shovel handles at a hardware store; their diameter is ideal for stair rungs, and the wood is already processed and sanded.

The cuttings are cut into fragments 40 cm long. At a distance of 3-4 cm from the ends of the crossbars, you need to cut indentations around the circumference using a knife or chisel. These grooves are needed to secure the rope to the wooden step. Thus, each workpiece must be processed.

Staircase with wooden rungs with notches

The rope for this staircase design needs a synthetic, non-stretchable rope with a diameter of at least 8 mm. The length depends on the structure being manufactured. It is also worth remembering that the knots for fixing also require about 2 meters of rope.

To make a staircase you need to make wooden template, which will help you accurately position the crossbars from each other. The template is also needed to ensure that the steps are parallel to each other, without distortions.

The template is placed on a flat surface. The rope is cut into 2 pieces of equal length. The ends are singed and wrapped with thick thread. Then between wooden planks The crossbars are laid using the template. A rope is tied to the bottom step on both sides and securely fixed. Ropes are pulled to the second step and secured in the grooves using a knot called a “Constrictor”.

Video - How to tie a Constrictor knot correctly

The rest of the ladder rungs are connected in the same way. Loops are woven at the ends of the ropes, to which the ladder will be attached. It is important to maintain the same distance between the steps; this will ensure the safety of using the suspended structure.

A ladder with rungs on which grooves are carved is the fastest and easiest way to make a suspended structure. You can make such a ladder even on a hike if you have a strong rope, a knife and an ax with you.

In order to quickly make a staircase in field conditions, you need branches with a diameter of at least 4 cm. You can simply cut them down with an ax. It is important not to use dry and brittle workpieces that may not support a person’s weight. It is better to look for strong and healthy wood.

The branches need to be cut into pieces, and using a knife, cut grooves along the edges for attaching ropes. There is no need to remove the bark from the rungs; under the bark the wood is slippery and smooth, and climbing up the stairs will be difficult and inconvenient.

After making the crossbars, you can start attaching the rope. There will be no template in the forest, so you need to carefully calculate the gap between the steps.

If desired, such simple stairs can easily be done in an hour and a half.

Hanging staircase with plastic steps

The pipe must be cut into equal lengths

For the stairs you need a strong, non-stretchy synthetic rope with a diameter of at least 3-4 mm. To weave the sides you need 3 ropes, two of the same size but different color, one half more: 10 m (blue) +10 m (blue) + 15 m (black).

The bottom crossbar is attached first. Two 10-meter ropes are passed through the tube, and the 15-meter rope is let down over the top. At the edges of the crossbar, the ropes are connected and a braid is woven from them. To avoid confusion, you can use twine of different colors. The braids on both sides are braided to the beginning of the second crossbar.

We thread a strong rope (rope) into each section of pipe

Then the second crossbar is attached. A rope 15 m long is made into a loop and pushed into the cavity of the tube. Another piece of long black rope is threaded through the end of the loop protruding from the other side. It turns out that the 2 ends of a long rope are fastened inside the tube. Then a braid is again braided from 3 ropes on both sides of the stairs, until the next crossbar. The third step is attached in a similar way.

Now you need to arrange the rope and pipe sections as in the photo and thread the rope through the pipe sections to complete the manufacture of the stairs

It is important to maintain the same distance between the rungs so that the stairs do not warp and the steps do not have different levels.

When the ladder is ready, you can make loops at the end of the ropes or attach carabiners. This will simplify the use of the suspended structure.

For fixation, you can tie knots at the entrance and exit of the rope from the tube, but this is not necessary; the rope ladder is ready for use

If you only have rope, you can use it to make a simple and reliable ladder, called a fire ladder.

Types of rope ladders: materials, designs and manufacturing methods

A large number of people use a device such as a rope ladder in their work. And although ordinary people often see it at playgrounds and in the circus, workers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, economic departments of housing and communal services, climbers and speleologists must keep this device in their arsenal. The main requirement is 100% safety during operation. The article will discuss various examples of rope ladders, their technical specifications and DIY methods.

Characteristics of rope ladders

Moving on to the topic of how to make a rope ladder, you need to figure out what technical requirements presented to this device. Main indicator– strength. This applies to all models without exception. Other requirements:

  1. Ropes for playgrounds are made from natural materials.
  2. Representatives of fire brigades and the Ministry of Emergency Situations use non-flammable materials.
  3. Climbers pay special attention to such an indicator as frost resistance.
  4. Climbers prefer ladders made of strong but thin rope.

Regarding technical characteristics and dimensional parameters.

  1. The width of the stairs is within 45 cm.
  2. Length – no more than 15 m.
  3. Weight – no more than 20 kg.
  4. Rope thickness – 7-10 mm. You can’t go any thinner, it will cut your hands; any thicker – the weight of the device will increase.
  5. Distance between steps: for children – 30 cm, adults – 45 cm.

Material for production

A rope ladder consists of 2 elements: rope (string), steps. For official use, rope is made from synthetic materials: nylon, nylon, polypropylene, etc. Their strength is higher than that of natural materials, synthetics do not swell when in contact with water, and do not rot.

Steps are made of wood, plastic, metal, rope. Basic requirements - integrity, absence of deformations and defects, withstand the required conditions different cases loads. The use of wooden crossbars requires a special approach to manufacturing. A mandatory procedure is sanding with sandpaper to create a smooth surface.

Making a rope ladder with your own hands is not a problem. The main thing is to decide on the knot with which the steps will be tied. You just need to learn how to tie it.

Option #1

This option, in which there is no need to tie the steps. Will be required wooden blocks rectangular or round section: the first dimensions are 2.5x3 cm, the second ones are 3 cm in diameter. It is necessary to make through holes in them along the edges, located from the edges of the bars at a distance of 3.5-4 cm.

There is a similar option with drilling holes in the steps. The ends of the bar are additionally wrapped in it so that the latter does not move along the bowstrings. There is no need to tie top knots because the overall binding of the block holds it in a certain position.

It is recommended to use wooden blocks and reinforced plastic pipes with an outer diameter of 26 mm as steps in this design. The tubes are strong but lightweight.

Option No. 2

Rope-ladder of this type– design with crossbars without through holes. To prevent the rope from moving along the steps (rungs), on the bars sharp knife make grooves 2 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep. The distance from the edges of the block to the grooves is 3-4 cm. Grooves can be made along the perimeter of the block or 2 on opposite sides.

All that remains is to choose a knot with which to tie the steps of the rope ladder. Simple, but quite reliable - “boa constrictor” or in other words “constrictor”. The photo below shows the correct knitting.

One very important thing to consider important point. When the running end of the rope is turned around the crossbar again, it lies on top of the root end. This can be clearly seen in Figure 3. To make it more clear how to tie a constrictor, watch the video:

Option #3

For the construction of this rope ladder, plastic pipes are used as steps. internal diameter 20 mm. The rope is passed sequentially through the tubes, the latter being placed at the same distance. This distance should be equal to the distance between the future steps of the rope ladder.

The same is done on the opposite side of the structure without breaking the rope. It turns out that the strings will be placed inside the pipes twice. This will increase the length of rope used, but will increase the strength of the steps and the ladder as a whole.

Option No. 4

Let's consider interesting option, in which no additional elements other than rope are used. A do-it-yourself rope ladder made in this way is often used as a play device on the playground.

You will need 2 ropes of the same length. They are laid out parallel to each other with a distance equal to the length of the step. One of them is wound behind the second and folded into a loop.

Please note that the end of the loop is laid at the level of the running rope. The length of the loop is equal to the length of the step. The second rope is tied around the loop, wrapping it repeatedly. It’s important – the tighter you wrap and the tighter you tighten, the better.

The same must be done with the other rope. The ropes change places. The main thing is to consider the distance between the rope steps.

Available in this type of rope ladder weaving important nuance. After creating the last turn, the end of the rope is passed into the loop, fixing the running end.

In the end, you should end up with a staircase structure like this, connected only from ropes without the use of rungs.

Railings equipped with rope

The main requirement for any type of ladder, regardless of what material they are made of: metal, wood, rope, is safety of operation. Therefore, inclined structures connecting 2 floors of a building must be equipped with railings. For the latter, you can use regular rope. The use of the latter is an additional unique, unusual solution to the decorative content of the room. Plus - the reliability of the load-bearing elements.

A simple option for using ropes to fencing stairs is to stretch them between the balusters. In the latter, holes are made with equal vertical distances into which the ropes are inserted. Ropes can be stretched tightly or laid with a slight slack. There are no strict requirements here. The number of tensioned cables is selected according to individual wishes.

Attention! Balusters must be firmly and firmly attached to the strings or stringers of the staircase structure. Because rope fencing is not load-bearing. They perform the functions of a protective element.

If the staircase is being built in narrow space fenced by two walls (partitions), ropes as railings can be installed along the surface of one of the walls. They will have to be attached to this surface by any means or devices. The photo below shows how the rope is passed through special device in the form of a ring attached to the wall. To prevent the rope from moving relative to the fastener, a regular knot is tied on the latter.

Considering the rope ladder and the possibilities of its use, it should be noted that this device is multifunctional. So here are a few photos where you can use them.

Conclusion

Making a rope ladder with your own hands makes it possible to use it in the home. The main thing is to choose the right design, size, and material. You should not avoid spending money if the task is to produce an inexpensive device. Choose high quality materials.

A rope ladder is an item that has a fairly wide range of applications. It is successfully used when performing high-altitude work, in the field of navigation, in the field of mountaineering and speleology. Firefighters and rescuers use rope ladders. It can also be found quite often at playgrounds for children and attractions. A rope ladder can be presented in a variety of modifications, but first of all it must be reliable and safe.

We will tell you how to make a rope ladder with your own hands in our article.

Important Specifications

A reliable and comfortable rope ladder must meet several parameters:

  • Width - 0.45m.
  • Length - no more than 15m.
  • It must be no heavier than 20kg and be able to withstand loads of at least 300kg.
  • Rope diameter 7-10mm.
  • If the staircase is an adult, then the distance between the horizontal rungs should be about 45cm; for a children's staircase, this parameter is reduced to 30cm.

Material

When making bowstrings, they usually use durable synthetic rope made of nylon, nylon, polypropylene, etc. They are much stronger than any other natural material, and also do not rot or swell when exposed to water.

For steps, metal, plastic, wood or rope are usually used. The main thing is that these parts are intact, do not deform and can take on a large load. If wood is used to make the crossbars, it must be sanded thoroughly.

Staircase with wooden rungs and support units

In this case, you will need round or rectangular blocks of wood. You need to drill a hole in each of them from the edges. Then begin to sequentially put the bars on the ropes, leaving a distance of about 35cm between them. Don't forget to tie simple knots above and below the holes.

This is how easy it is to make a rope ladder for children.

Rope ladders with a boa constrictor knot

In this option, wooden crossbars are usually used. Through holes won't be needed here. The rope is tied along the edges of the crossbars, and to prevent it from moving, grooves are cut into them, the depth of which is 5 mm and the width is 2 cm. You need to retreat about 3cm from the edges. Tie the steps with rope as shown in the picture.

This option is also perfect for making a rope ladder for a wall bars.

Ladders made of rope and plastic pipes

Here the role of steps will be played by plastic pipes (diameter - 2cm). Pass the rope sequentially inside the pipes, placing them 30cm apart. Next, without cutting the rope, repeat this procedure on the other side. As a result, the rope will pass inside plastic pipes twice. You will get a fairly strong and reliable structure, which can very well play the role of a children’s rope ladder.

Rope ladder

In this model, apart from rope, no other materials are used. To create it you need two ropes. Place them parallel to each other at a distance of about 40cm. Place one rope behind the other, folding it into a loop, the length of which should be equal to the length of the steps. Wrap the other rope tightly around this loop. Then repeat this procedure using another rope. At the end of each step, take a final puff.

Rope ladders are great fun for children preschool age. Simple design it is quite possible to build in country house, on summer cottage. A good option is an attic rope system, a rope ladder for basements and wells.

Rope ladder

The need for such stairs is obvious. Without them, it is impossible to clean sewers or repair wells.

Sewer ladders are divided according to the method of fastening:

  • portable;
  • stationary.

There is also a division according to the material used to make the steps:

Features of stationary rope ladders

The rope ladder has many positive characteristics:

  • low weight of the structure. The lightness of the structure is an indicator of the mobility of the rope system;
  • using the minimum amount of free space. The small size makes it possible to store the rope ladder in a convenient place;
  • ease of installation. No need to search professional tools, installation is quick and convenient;
  • acceptable cost. To make a rope ladder, you can use inexpensive materials at hand, which can be found in any home;
  • environmental friendliness and safety. The rope structure does not cause allergies; it is recommended for arranging children's playgrounds.

Methods for creating a rope ladder

There are several options for creating such a system, each with its own characteristics.

1 way. This option requires the following materials:

  • polypropylene rope at least 20 meters, diameter 7-8 mm. This type of rope is resistant to high humidity and does not stretch;
  • wooden cuttings (diameter 30 mm, length 130-140 cm);
  • hacksaw;
  • dense thread;
  • sandpaper(fine grain).

Assembly of the structure

We offer an algorithm for assembling a rope ladder system:

  • there is no need to drill holes in the cuttings for fastening;
  • not required special tools, so installation can be completed by novice home craftsmen.

To prevent the rope from slipping off the steps, grooves must be made at the attachment points. The depth of the grooves is 2-3 mm, the distance from the edge is 1-3 cm, the width of the slot is 15 mm. The ends of the rope are singed so that it does not unravel during use. The step fastening step is 40-45 cm. At the ends of the ropes we make a loop, diameter 5-6 cm.

Attention! During the installation of a rope structure, a problem may arise such as the parallelism of the installation of steps. Do not tighten the knots too tightly. After attaching all the steps, make adjustments and tighten the rope if necessary.

The last stage is tying loops at the ends of the rope.

The result of your actions should be a reliable and original rope structure that can be moved from one place to another.

Method 2. This option involves making steps from wooden blocks. To implement the project, you will need wooden blanks 35 cm long with a cross section of 40 mm.

Advice! Check the quality of the wooden elements so that children can move around without fear of injury or splinters.

  1. We attach the steps to the rope. We divide a rope 8-10 m long into equal parts. We make loops at the edges of the rope and thread the rope into the holes made in the block. We tie knots under each beam, securely fixing the steps.
  2. The step fastening step is 30-40 cm.
  3. We complete the installation of the rope ladder by tying the ends of the rope into a single knot.

3 way. Rope ladder made of braided rope. Similar designs used by rescue services, fans of hiking, as well as connoisseurs of a healthy lifestyle. A special feature of this system is the absence of the usual wooden steps. They are replaced by rope loops, which significantly reduce the total weight of the entire staircase:

  • the formation of steps is carried out in the form of a “burlatsky loop”. It is safe, does not unravel, and you can hold it with your hands. To obtain a loop, twist the rope rope twice, stretch the lower part of the resulting “figure eight” to the sides, and pull the upper part of the loop inward;
  • we form required quantity steps, put the rope in a backpack and go on a country trip.

Rope-ladder - useful item. It can be used at work, on a hike, while playing sports and as a decorative element. It’s easy to make such a staircase yourself, even without special skills.

How to make a rope ladder with your own hands

A ladder made from rope compares favorably with wooden and metal models compactness, low cost, ability to choose the desired size.

Tools

Before starting work, select your tools. You will need:

  • a saw or hacksaw with fine teeth to cut the beams for the steps;
  • drill to make holes in the steps;
  • fine-grained sandpaper for sanding steps.

Using a sander instead of sandpaper will significantly reduce the work time.

Material

To create your own stairs, stock up on:

  • bars for steps;
  • strong rope.

If you have old wooden cuttings from garden tools, they can be used instead of bars. One cutting will yield 3-4 comfortable steps.

The suspended staircase is made no more than 15 m long

The following can be used as steps:

  • metal blanks made of durable light aluminum alloys;
  • strong dry branches collected in a forest belt or grove;
  • tubes and blanks made of durable plastic (sold as a set in stores);
  • ropes (for styling or marine use).

The standard thickness of the step bar is 4 cm. The length can be different - for an adult best option 35–50 cm, for a child - 30 cm.

The rope for steps differs in material:

  • Cotton. The best choice for children's gymnastic equipment and entertainment facilities. The child's weight should not exceed 30 kg.
  • Sisal (flax or hemp). Natural fibers give the rope a stylish look decorative look. Such ropes are universal - they can be used for everyday needs and for styling the interior in a marine theme.
  • Synthetic (with lavsan, nylon, and so on). Not recommended for children. They are most often used where maximum reliability and resistance to any influences are needed - in rescue operations.

The thickness of rope blanks for stairs should be 0.8–1 cm.

The number of steps and the length of the ropes are arbitrary, depending on what tasks you will solve with the help of the ladder. On average, 2 skeins of rope are taken, each 20 m long. There are 2-3 steps per 1 m - therefore, a 20-meter staircase (taking into account the fastenings) will require 40-45 steps.

Step-by-step instruction

A rope ladder with holes in the steps is considered the most reliable - it can be used daily and can equally successfully withstand the weight of a child and an adult. Other options require less effort, but cannot compare with it in terms of convenience and durability.

How to make a staircase step by step:

  1. Cut the beams or cuttings using a hacksaw into equal sections.

    It is not recommended to use glued or tenoned blanks for crossbars.

  2. Sand them with sandpaper or a sander until smooth.

    It is best to use solid wood without knots to make stairs

  3. Process protective equipment in 2-3 layers (if you use the ladder outside of the building or for industrial purposes) and dry.

    You can use a special varnish to cover the wood.

  4. Step back 4–5 cm from the edge on both sides of the future step and drill holes with a diameter of 1–1.2 cm in the marked places.

    You need to start making stairs from the bottom rung

  5. Singe the ends of the ropes over an open fire to prevent them from unraveling.

    You can singe the edges of the rope with a lighter or using a hot knife to cut the material.

  6. Pass the rope through the hole, leaving a 25–30 cm long end at the bottom.

    Synthetic materials (nylon, polyester, nylon) are considered more practical, as they are wear-resistant and have increased tensile strength.

  7. Make a loop: throw the rope from top to bottom, pass it through the same hole, leading up; Pull the rope tightly and tie the lower end in a knot while holding the step.

    Natural fibers of flax, hemp and cotton are durable

Next, repeat the operation with other steps, placing them at a distance of 30 cm, as well as with the second rope. Constantly check that the steps are level. Make fastenings at the ends at the top.

A high-quality safe ladder must meet a number of criteria:

  • no sharp corners;
  • width not less than 25 cm;
  • the step between steps is no more than 35 cm;
  • product weight no more than 20 kg.

A ladder for adults must withstand 360 kg, for children - at least 130 kg.

Where is the design useful?

The rope ladder is not an anachronism at all. It is still actively used in many areas of human activity.

Where you might need a rope ladder:

  • On the ship. If you have a yacht, you cannot do without a compact flexible ladder.

Time sailing ships and piracy have long since sunk into oblivion, but one of the attributes of that era has remained and is still used today. This is a rope ladder. Such a device is useful in the household - with its help you can go down even into the deepest and narrowest places. The ladder will not take up much space in the garage or house. Children also love to climb on it - it is not only interesting for them, but also very useful. If this is useful, then young parents should learn how to make a rope ladder with their own hands.

a brief description of

The design is a flexible ladder made of rope and wood blocks as steps. Instead of wooden slats You can also use tubes made of metal and plastic. Ropes for stairs are made mainly from synthetic materials, but there are also natural products.

The design differs from wooden or iron solutions in its low weight - the product is practically weightless, and even a small child can lift it without difficulty. Next, the ladder is compact - when folded, it can be stored in utility rooms at the dacha; in an apartment it will easily fit on the mezzanine. You can even make the design yourself from scrap materials.

Stairs of this type also have other qualities - reliability, durability, and high maintainability.

The product is based on a braided cord made of natural or synthetic materials. The diameter of the cord must be at least 15 mm. The tensile strength of the cord must be at least 300 kg for every 10 mm of cross-section. If the ladder will be used to extinguish fires and to help in extreme situations and man-made disasters, then the cord is sprayed with non-flammable compounds to give the product fire resistance.

Abroad, in the production of stairs, a metallized composition is used for spraying using the plasma-ion method. The cord must be made of special fibers. In domestic products, spraying is formal and does not give the staircase any special properties.

Due to the nature of production, the length of the cord is twice the length of the finished ladder. There is a distance between the main cords - it can range from 320 to 400 mm. The pitch between steps is usually from 220 to 250 mm and it is better not to exceed this value.

The materials of the steps are different - they can be rope or wood. The wood to choose is predominantly hardwood (beech, ash, oak).

To make the wood resistant to weathering, apply to each of the steps. polyurethane varnish. In a separate case, they are used as steps stainless steel, aluminum alloys, composite materials and plastic.

Where are rope ladders used?

Since ancient times, these products have been an important and indispensable attribute of sailing ships. As the areas of sail equipment on ships grew, the number of rope ladders for servicing the ship also increased. There were two types of ladders installed on sailing ships: shrouds and storm ladders. Such rope ladders can be seen in old films.

The cables were a continuous set of stairs. They served not only to climb onto masts and yards for maintenance. They were used both for securing structures on the mast and for increasing the height of the masts. One of the varieties of cables were single ladders.

A storm ladder is a ladder whose function is to provide the ability to climb aboard a ship from the rowing compartment. The peculiarity of these structures is wooden steps for greater stability.

With the end of the era of the sailing fleet, the rope ladder has not lost its relevance. During the time of the knights, these structures were used as compact and small means for overcoming various vertical obstacles. They also used a rope ladder for the purpose of courting ladies - a man had to perform a lot of feats for his lady.

To get into dark time days to his beloved, the knight used a pocket rope, or rather, a silk ladder to get into the house or castle. And then the rope ladder became popular in Russia - it was manufactured and purchased for the needs of fire brigades.

Although certain functions have become a thing of the past, rope ladders are used for a variety of needs:

  • This is an indispensable device on ships where there are necessarily storm ladders for emergency boarding of passengers into boats.

  • Not a single self-respecting climber will go to conquer Elbrus or Kazbek without such a ladder.

  • Products are also needed as rescue products - they have long been adopted by the emergency services for the evacuation of people in the event of any disaster.

  • Where it is not possible to use a stepladder, and this is a situation when you need to go down into a deep and cramped well, rope ladders come to the rescue.

  • If there are children in the family, then the children's hanging staircase will become interesting toy and an excellent sports trainer.

  • Rope ladders remain indispensable for people with disabilities. The products help a person move from a lying position to a sitting position.

And even though such ladders are not intended for “every day” use, since they are not capable of replacing flight structures, judging by their areas of use, they have a number of undoubted advantages. It is light weight, compact, multifunctional, and can be made by hand.

Finished stairs

On modern market The choice of finished products is small - these are mainly special rescue ladders, tourist and children's options. The industry has long mastered the production of a wide range of rope ladders to solve a variety of problems. And the stairs have various characteristics, one of the main ones is length.

The most popular and popular models have a length of 4, 5, 6, 10, 12 meters. These solutions cover the basic height range. But there are also models with lengths of 15, 18, 20, 30 meters. Thirty-meter stairs are used primarily for evacuation to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

We can distinguish the main types of products produced by modern industry:

  • LAN is a rope rescue ladder. It is equipped with a bag for storing and transporting the product. The length ranges from 6 to 30 m. Various manufacturers offer to purchase ready-made models with a length that is a multiple of a meter.

  • LVSC is also a rescue ladder, but equipped with a chain. The set also includes a bag. The length ranges from 6 to 30 m. At a length of 100-120 cm, the upper part of the structure is equipped with a high-strength chain with a small link. This type ladders are very popular in industrial mountaineering.

What material to make the stairs from?

If you decide to make a staircase with your own hands, then you should know about the choice of materials. Most instructions indicate that strong rope will suffice. However, experts recommend synthetic nylon, nylon, and lavsan. These are strong and durable, as well as practical materials.

If you need to make a Swedish wall, then it is better to select cotton type ropes. If the child’s room is in a marine style, you need natural material - flax or hemp.

Depending on the scope of application, materials are selected. Rescue products for firefighters are made from non-flammable raw materials. Models for climbers should be durable and compact. A children's model can be made, depending on personal preference and what is available.

Steps can be made of wood, plastic or metal. You can even use a shovel handle. Sometimes the ladder has no steps at all, and instead of them knots or loops are knitted.

Manufacturing methods [step by step instructions]

Let's try to build a universal design that will be useful for solving any problems. To assemble the product with your own hands, you will need two polypropylene or nylon ropes - 20 meters of each piece. Polypropylene is durable, does not stretch, and does not lose its properties when wet.

The diameter of the rope should not be too thin, otherwise the product will cut your hands and reduce strength. The optimal size is 8 mm or more. The length is selected taking into account the method of fastening the steps. The length of the finished product will be half, and sometimes even a quarter of the original length of the rope.

The crossbar can be made from cuttings from a shovel. They are sold in any stores and are very easy to buy. The diameter of the cuttings is about 3 cm and the length is 140 cm. If this is a children's ladder, then buy rake handles, they are made thinner. But you may need to modify the cutting - make it round.

You will need the following set of tools: a hacksaw, a knife, fine-grained sandpaper, and a thick thread. The whole process looks like this:

1. First of all, cut the cuttings. The length of each cutting should be about 30 cm. Cut approximately 25 pieces. Then, after cutting, a 1 m long section will remain. It will be needed to fix the structure on the wall or anywhere else. Each section of the cutting is sanded with sandpaper to a perfectly smooth surface.

2. To prevent the nodes from slipping, the edges of the steps must have slots. The depth is approximately 3-5 mm and the width is 15 mm. To do this, each step is marked - circular cuts are made at a distance of 1.5 cm from each other. Then grooves are made with a knife. In order to increase shelf life, the steps need to be treated with various protective compounds. But the surface should not be slippery.

3. Next you need to prepare the rope. Pieces of the required length are cut from the skein. To prevent the rope from unraveling, the ends are melted. For greater reliability, each end is wrapped with thick thread. A loop is knitted on one side of each piece - its diameter should be approximately 6 cm. Such loops are needed to conveniently hang the product anywhere.

4. Next, lay out the steps. If the staircase is intended for an adult, then the distance between the steps is made no more than 45 cm. If this product is for children, then the distance is reduced to 30 cm. The steps must be laid parallel to each other with the same distance between them.

5. They complete the assembly of the stairs in the same way as they started. To do this, we make similar loops at the ends of the rope as at the beginning. If the rope is too long, it needs to be adjusted.

Tying a rope around the steps

To make the staircase comfortable and strong enough, and its steps to be securely fastened, it is recommended to knit a “Constrictor” knot. It makes it easy to make your own stairs without having to drill holes in each step for the rope. The photo below shows in detail how to tie this knot, although it is quite simple.

In this way all the steps are connected. Loops are tied at the ends of each rope. If you tie the knots correctly, you will get an 11-meter strong and reliable design, which can easily support one person.

Video: how to tie a constrictor knot.

Crossbars with through holes

This is already more difficult decision in production. It is complicated in that the rope will pass through the holes made in the steps. There is no need to tie knots, but you will have to drill each crossbar. You will need rectangular bars. The rope can be replaced with nylon.

All work consists of the following stages:

1. Use a drill to drill holes on the bars near the edge. The diameter of the drill should be slightly larger than the thickness of the rope. Sharp edges are sanded, as is the entire timber. If necessary, the steps are painted.

2. The rope is prepared using the same technology as in the first option - first it is cut with a hot knife, then the ends are processed and wrapped with a thick thread. Next, figure-of-eight knots are made at the ends.

3. Assembly must begin from the last (lower) step. To do this, first pass the rope cord through the holes in the crossbar.

4. The rope is pulled well so that the knot securely fixes the step and strengthens it. It is important that the crossbar is in the correct position at both ends.

5. One knot, which will act as a barrier to the sliding of the step, is not enough. The crossbar still needs to be covered with the same cord. To do this, first take two loops as shown in the photo.

6. Now all that remains is to combine the two loops into one, pushing one through the other and pulling out the end of the cord. The result is a girth of the crossbar, so the step is secured more securely.

7. We are done with the first step. Now all that remains is to repeat the whole process with the remaining bars. The main thing is not to forget to make a figure-of-eight knot before each crossbar to secure the step.

Before you start using such a ladder, it is better to check it first. It must withstand a lot of weight, reliably perform its function, and be safe for the child. Children in active play may be injured if the product does not meet the requirements.

When time is short, there is no point in building a structure from the first two options. Let's see how to make a rope ladder without wooden rungs. It is necessary to tie the rope with special knots. If you have the skills to knit knots, this product will be durable and reliable.

In this case, the photo shows two ropes different colors. This will give you a better understanding of exactly how to tie knots. Step-by-step instruction looks like that:

1. Both ropes must be laid out on the surface. The second (red in the photo) is in the form English letter S. It is important to leave free ends one meter long - this will be the top of the stairs.

2. Now pass the second rope through the resulting loops of the first cord as shown in the photo.

3. Now we begin to wrap the “improvised step”. This must be done with tension so that the rope is fixed tightly. After several turns, the end of the cord must be inserted through the resulting loop.

4. Now we lay the rope in the letter S, so that blue color, and repeat the same operation with red. Don't forget to pull out the loose ends well.

5. All steps need to be done in the same way. The length of the ladder directly depends on the length of the ropes themselves and the number of turns obtained when tightening the knots.

The so-called “burlatsky” loops are especially popular. Their peculiarity and advantage is that the result is not knots, but loops. They are very comfortable to put your foot in. Untying the loops is as convenient as tying them. The rope does not deteriorate.

It’s easy to make a “burlat” loop. First, the rope is twisted twice - you should get a figure-eight figure. The second lower part is stretched, and the upper part of the figure eight is pulled inside the circle. Next, the knot is tightened.

Railing (equipped with rope)

This is very unusual and interesting solution, requiring a competent approach at the project development stage. This decor cannot be used for a ready-made flight of stairs. To create a railing from a rope, you need special balusters - they are distinguished by the presence of holes for the rope. Tight ropes will not only provide good support, but will also become an original interior decoration.

A good way to decorate is to wrap rope around each baluster. The special texture and similarity with the marine theme will help create an interesting, unique atmosphere.

The traditional handrail can be replaced with a tension rope. For everything to work out successfully, you need to position the fasteners correctly. It is enough to install several fastening elements so that the rope does not sag. In this case, the knot will not bear any functional load, but will perform a decorative function.

With the help of this article, everyone can now learn how to make rope ladders with their own hands. This will help keep active children occupied, attract them to sports and physical exercise, a ladder is indispensable in the household. It is possible to either completely copy manufacturing methods or modify them - interesting projects can result.
