Assembling the second bench

At the next stage, it is recommended to assemble the second bench. Its dimensions are 22x109 cm. The seat is two blanks with dimensions equal to 109x11 cm. The legs are made of square timber with a side of 40 cm. The blanks that will go on the legs will have the following dimensions: two bars of 22 cm each and four of each 32 cm.
The legs of the second bench can be made from a 22-centimeter block. At one end the board is fixed on edge. To do this, use a wooden dowel, screws and glue. Then you need to make a second bench measuring 109 by 22 cm, for this you will also need two boards (each measuring 109x11). The legs will be cut from wooden beams. The master himself must prepare 4 beams 32 cm long, two more – 22 cm long, 2 beams of any length for making spacers and 2 boards measuring 40x9.
According to the drawing, boards are attached to the ribs of the 22 cm long beams at one edge. This is done using wood glue and wood dowels. Then the legs are connected using self-tapping screws and metal corners. The finished structure should resemble the letter A, 45 cm high and 30 cm wide.
After this, the boards are screwed to the legs using self-tapping screws. The seat is attached to wooden boards standing on the edges. If everything is done correctly, the width of the seat will be 109 cm, and the width of the bench along the legs will be 113. All that remains is to screw in the spacers to strengthen the seat.
The final stage of manufacturing legs and seats is checking the correct assembly of the product: the benches need to be placed together, if they stand at the same height, forming a comfortable sofa from 4 boards, then everything is done correctly and you can proceed to the production of the table.
Making a transformer tabletop
According to the drawings, the wooden tabletop will have dimensions of 126 by 57 cm. To assemble it, you will need 5 boards of suitable sizes, as well as 2 planks 57 cm long and of any width (we take 4 cm wide planks as an example). The planks must be placed vertically, the boards must be attached to them with self-tapping screws so that there is a distance of 4 cm on each edge.
The tabletop is then attached to the base. To do this, you will need to cut 2 support boards for the tabletop, each measuring 40 by 10 cm. On one edge of each support you need to make a cut at an angle of 115 degrees, this is the angle at which the back of the chair will be located. It is necessary to retreat 14 cm from the edge of the tabletop, secure the stops with inside strips using self-tapping screws.
At the next stage, the master needs to place the back of the bench on the leg supports, drill in the support and vertical board holes with a diameter of 7 mm. Then the elements are connected using a furniture bolt 8 mm long and 6 mm in diameter, as well as a self-locking nut. Metal washers must be placed between the stops.
When the structure is assembled, the master must himself check the correct installation of the tabletop-backrest. If the device opens and closes freely, then you can connect two benches together. For this purpose, armrests are installed on the protruding boards of the legs. To make them, you need to cut 2 boards measuring 8x22 cm and another 4 – 6x27. These elements are then connected to each other using wood glue and dowels. Then, according to the drawing, the armrests are attached with dowels to the bench so that they rest against the backrest slats.
Lever installation
On last stage The master must install the lever itself, thanks to which it will be possible to change the position of the transformer. For the levers, you need to prepare two boards 88 cm long and any width (in our case - 6 cm), round their ends. If the lever is cut correctly, then when placed on the bench it will be in the same plane as the tabletop strip and the leg stand.
Then you need to drill holes with a diameter of 7 mm in the lever, bar, and leg. To do this, you need to retreat 5 cm from one edge of the lever, and 1 from the other, and 12 cm and 1 on the bar. The structural elements are connected with furniture nuts and screws, and washers are installed between the parts of the mechanism. In order for the lever to hold tightly, it must be fastened with self-tapping screws to the armrest.
