Wood for garden furniture

  • When selecting material, special attention is paid to its quality. Wooden parts must not have damage caused by insects or fungi. The most even lumber will allow assembly to be carried out easily and quickly. In addition, this will reduce wood consumption (no large scraps).
  • Conifers have a natural softness, they can be easily processed and have an aesthetically attractive appearance. appearance. However, the resins released will ruin both the clothes of the people sitting at the table and the festive tablecloth.
  • Wooden tables and benches from hardwood the most profitable option. The table will be strong and durable. The most preferred lumber is obtained from pear, cherry, larch, birch, and ash. It should be remembered that wood changes its original shade over time.

Wood processing

  • Apply protective compounds necessary both before and after installation. Such measures will help preserve the rich texture and increase the service life of the finished structure.
  • The treatment will ensure the moisture resistance of the wood and maintain natural vapor permeability natural material. Protection is especially important for this piece of furniture, given its permanent location outdoors.
  • It should be remembered that if during the assembly process the components of the structure are adjusted, the sawed areas are also processed.

DIY wooden tables for the gazebo

  • Before starting work, do not neglect such a stage as preparation. The table is a structure consisting of two main elements - the table top and support legs. The first step is to draw up a sketch of the future creation, in which all the details will be noted, as well as their size and location.
  • Think over and prepare wood, tools, painting materials and fasteners in advance, so that at the most crucial moment you don’t have to run around the neighbors in search of the necessary things or go to the nearest hardware store.

Material. Tool. Fasteners

  • Procurement of all components of the structure is carried out on the basis of the drawn up project. When choosing the size and shape of a table, it is important to rely not only on personal preferences, but also take into account similar indicators of the gazebo.
  • This item should not interfere with the free passage of people; here we mean the distance between the table top and the seating areas. Round and oval tables look great in polygonal gazebos. But many, choosing between aesthetics and practicality, prefer standard square or rectangular tables.

  • If the geometry of the tabletop may be futuristic, then the height of the table must be treated more rationally. The optimal indicator is considered to be 70-75 cm. In this case, the height of the seating areas should be in the range of 42-47 cm.
  • The thickness of the boards for the tabletop is 3 cm. This parameter will allow you to assemble a durable surface, without deflection, even under high loads. The width of the lumber can be from 15 to 20 cm. Ready-made panels, which are sold in some hardware stores or carpentry shops, will help simplify assembly work.
  • For the legs, 5x5 cm bars are taken. If you want to make a table with a hint of a masterpiece, then you can purchase figured balusters.

You will also need the following construction tools:

  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • saw, jigsaw;
  • sanding machine, sandpaper of different grain sizes;
  • level, square;
  • marker, pencil;
  • glue, screws (6x30 mm and 4.8x50 mm).

The first stage of assembling a table into a wooden gazebo

  • All wooden elements processed with a plane. The surface is brought to perfect condition grinder. For hard to reach places sheet sandpaper is used. Thus, all irregularities, scratches, and burrs are removed.
  • As a result, the components future design should be smooth and even. All sides of the lumber need to be processed; the ends and corners are not ignored.
  • To create a higher quality countertop, it is better to buy tongue and groove boards. They will allow you to assemble the shield without gaps, while eliminating the labor-intensive work of adjusting individual parts.
  • It is recommended to chamfer the edges of the bars used as support legs.

Assembling the tabletop

  • The frame gives strength and stability to the entire product. The boards for the frame should be approximately 30 cm shorter in length and width relative to the same parameters of the tabletop.

  • The outer frame is formed by 4 boards (2 short and 2 long). Using a square, first place a short board for the frame on the edge at an angle of 90 degrees, attach a leg to it and fasten it with self-tapping screws. Next, connect the second support from the other edge of the board.
  • The second pair of legs is fastened in the same way. Then long frame boards are attached to the blanks. Fastening can be done directly with self-tapping screws or using metal corners, securely fastening the entire structure.
  • To avoid possible splitting of the material, you can pre-drill guide holes into which the screws are screwed. The heads of the fasteners must be completely recessed into the wood.
  • Along the length of the frame, points for attaching crossbars are marked in the boards. Special attention is given to the perpendicular arrangement of the planks relative to the frame. You may need from 4 to 6 pieces depending on the length of the table.
  • Boards for the tabletop are laid on a flat surface outside down. They need to be temporarily fixed for more easy work. You can achieve reliable fastening to each other by first coating the ends of the boards with glue.

  • Next, place the crossbars in at least three places (at the edges and in the middle). Pick up optimal length self-tapping screws so that their ends do not “crawl out” from the front surface of the tabletop.
  • Turning the tabletop over front side down and fix the previously prepared frame with legs.

Wood furniture finishing

  • At the end of assembly, depending on the design, the corners are cut or rounded with an electric jigsaw. Chamfers are cut from the edges of the tabletop. All screws are tightened as necessary. The structure is polished. Scratches that appear during the work are repaired with wood putty.

  • Dust and chips are removed after finishing sanding. The table is vacuumed or blown, and then wiped with a slightly damp cloth. The product is covered with stain or several layers of transparent varnish. The latter option will highlight the natural beauty of wood.
  • Excellent decoration country table decoupage or single painting will be performed. But hiding the rich texture under a layer oil paint just a crime. The necessary protection Special impregnations and modern paints and varnishes will provide excellent results.

Tables and benches for gazebos made of stumps

  • Will help emphasize the country mood interesting option making a table for round gazebo, where instead standard legs a stump is used. In this case, the tabletop should be round or oval.
  • The thickness of boards with such support can be 20 mm. It is important to follow the rule here: the larger the tabletop, the thicker the board.
  • An old, well-dried stump without rot (the type of tree does not matter) is covered with clear varnish. This approach will emphasize the best way texture and other advantages of natural material.
  • If the stump has been cut recently, it must be thoroughly dried. You can use a warm, dry room or use sunny weather and leave it in an open, well-ventilated area. The drying process takes about 2 months.
  • The base for the future table is cleared of bark using a chisel, chisel or chisel. The work is carried out carefully, trying not to damage the wood itself. Protruding rhizomes and other unsightly parts are cut off with a hacksaw.

  • Next, the stump is leveled horizontally. Building level will help at this stage, all defects are eliminated with a regular plane. Here you need an absolutely flat surface, because it serves as the basis for installing the countertop.
  • The stump is sanded mechanized way, inaccessible areas are cleaned manually using coarse-grained sandpaper. You should have a lot of patience. A “tricky” foundation will take a lot of time, but the resulting result will exceed all expectations.
  • If the width of the stump allows, then in its upper part you can make two recesses to match the parameters of two perpendicularly located boards. The latter will serve for more reliable fixation of the tabletop and stability of the entire structure as a whole.
  • The boards that form the tabletop are held together with glue and crossbars. A circle or oval is drawn on the outside. Through electric jigsaw it is given its final form. The surface and cuts are sanded and treated with impregnations, varnishes, etc.
  • The tabletop is attached using nails or self-tapping screws carefully selected in length. Fixation is carried out from the outside, so the caps must be recessed in the wood. The resulting dots can be hidden with putty that matches the shade of the wood as closely as possible.
  • To prevent the varnish from peeling and ensure more high-quality application subsequent layers, it is recommended that after the first layer the product is thoroughly dried and then treated with fine sandpaper.

Transformable table-bench

When folded, such a product looks like a narrow table, but when unfolded it allows you to place a large number of Human. Its manufacture will require a more professional approach.

  • It is impossible to do without a preliminary plan and careful calculation. Here the location of the support legs in the assembled and unfolded state is calculated. The drawing marks the places where parts are attached, fold lines, etc. important points, facilitating subsequent assembly.
  • A responsible approach to each stage of work will allow you to achieve the desired result, which will bring both benefits and aesthetic pleasure. Even from the trash stored in utility room long years you can create beautiful furniture for gazebos made of wood. The main thing is that it doesn’t turn out exactly the opposite.

You can demonstrate your creative abilities by starting with simple designs. Models in the minimalist style are always in trend. In addition, such products are perfectly used as a piece of furniture for any needs of a country house. Having gained experience, masters can move on to more complex ideas. Carved legs, tabletop of non-standard geometry, inserts from various materials and other decorative elements will help you fully express and unleash your full creative potential.

What city dweller doesn’t dream of getting away from all the everyday hustle and bustle into nature? There are probably few of them. This type of holiday is especially good on warm summer evenings. fresh air. And for this it is not at all necessary to travel outside the city; such a vacation can be spent on your own own plot, in the gazebo.

Often a gazebo serves not just as a gathering place for a group of friends and relatives, but also summer kitchen. In this case wooden table for a gazebo it is simply necessary. Therefore, the article will consider the question of its self-production.

The most common wooden table

What do you need for work?

Tables for gazebos made of wood can have different shapes and methods of execution. However, the work of making them, like any other, requires some tools and material.

The right tool

To work you will need the following basic tools:

  • Roulette;
  • A simple pencil or marker;
  • Wood saw or chainsaw;
  • Variable speed drill or screwdriver;
  • Simple level;
  • Some protective devices, for example, gloves, plastic glasses and others.

Of course, other tools may be needed during the work process.

Required material

The following materials will be required:

If you plan to make a purely wooden table into a gazebo, then the boards can have the following average dimensions;

  • 90*10*2.5 cm – 2 boards;
  • 170*10*2.5 cm – only 4 pieces;
  • 100*10*2.5 cm – 17 pieces in total;
  • 160*10*2.5 cm – only 2 boards;
  • 75*10*5 – 4 such boards.

The photo shows boards that can be used to make a table

Advice!
The choice of material, or rather its size, should be made based on the size of the gazebo or gazebo itself, so that the table is proportional to its size and can accommodate a sufficient number of people.

Direct assembly

So, setting up a table with your own hands can be described in several stages:

  • Frame assembly;
  • Strengthening the frame;
  • Fastening tabletop boards;
  • Attaching the legs.

Before direct assembly, all elements should be soaked special compounds, which will help preserve the wood from insects, as well as the process of decay. In addition, not only compounds called antiseptics can be used, but also those called fire retardants. They are designed to protect wood from open fire.

All wooden tables for gazebos and more begin to be assembled from a frame.

Frame with approximate dimensions

The frame will consist of 4 longitudinal boards and two end boards. Those that have a size of 170 * 10 * 2.5 are used as longitudinal boards. They are placed on the edge at an equal distance. In total, the distance between the two outer boards should be 90 cm.

To secure these boards together, others are attached to them at the ends, which have dimensions of 90 * 10 * 2.5 cm. Thus, by fastening all the elements with screws or nails, the frame will be completely assembled.

Now you need to strengthen the frame a little so that the wooden gazebo table is durable and has a beautiful appearance. For this purpose, other elements with dimensions of 160 * 10 * 2.5 are attached to the outer boards of the frame. They are nailed to the side, in the center.

Installed stiffeners

After attaching them, there will be exactly 5 cm left on each side of the outer boards, that is, just enough for the legs.

Next, this frame of the gazebo table needs to be sheathed with boards to form a tabletop. It is not difficult to calculate that if the boards are 170 cm long, then to cover them with other boards 10 cm wide, exactly 17 pieces will be required. However, to make the tabletop wider and hide the legs a little, take 18 of these elements.

This is what the finished tabletop looks like

All tabletop elements can also be secured with self-tapping screws or nails.

It must be said that self-tapping screws for wood thickness of 2.5 cm must have a length of at least 40 mm, and nails at least 50 mm.

For the countertop, elements with dimensions of 95 * 10 * 2.5 are used. This means that all boards are attached with a 50 mm extension beyond the outer frame bar.

After making the tabletop, the instructions suggest installing the legs. They are attached to the formed recesses in the frame.

Advice!
To make the legs removable, they should be secured with bolts, for which holes of the appropriate sizes are drilled in the frame and the legs themselves.

Legs can be attached to the inside of the frame

The same must be said about the entire structure as a whole. The wooden gazebo table can be completely assembled using only bolts. This will allow it to be transported anywhere in a normal passenger car in disassembled condition.

To simplify subsequent assembly, markings are applied to all elements so that they can then be installed in their place.

Conclusion

As you can see, collect the most regular table for your gazebo or even for the kitchen does not present any difficulties. You can do this yourself alone. This is perhaps one of the most important advantages of such furniture.

In addition, it can be noted that the price of such a piece of furniture will ultimately be much lower than a similar one purchased in a furniture store.

As a conclusion, we can say a few words about caring for it:

  • After assembling the table, it must be varnished or painted to extend the life of the wood and give it an attractive appearance;
  • During operation, wood requires virtually no special care except for timely updates paint coating. Paint, like varnish, is applied both to the external and internal sides, including the ends and sides.

Recently built at my dacha wooden gazebo, which is a hexagon in plan. At first I thought of installing it inside the building round table. But later I decided that it would be most convenient if the tabletop was hexagonal. The tabletop allows people sitting at a table on a bench to feel more free and independent. I chose the option of how to make a hexagonal table into a gazebo with my own hands from several furniture samples on the Internet. Having made the drawings, I began to select the right tool and purchasing the necessary materials.

Tools

Since the structure must be made of wood, the tool will mainly be needed for woodworking. Here's what I used to make my own hexagonal table:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • screwdriver;
  • chisels;
  • hammer;
  • sander;
  • roulette;
  • screwdrivers;
  • brushes;
  • tightening belts;
  • clamps.

Materials

I bought everything at the construction supermarket necessary materials. Purchases made according to this list:

  • lining 12.5 x 96 x 3900 – 2.6 m2;
  • board 600 x 600 x12.5 mm – 1 piece;;
  • timber 40 x 40 mm – 12 m;
  • construction plywood 600 x 600 x 18 mm, 0.36 m2 - 1 pc.;
  • wooden dowels ø 5 mm - 4 pcs.;
  • stain - 0.5 l.;

  • varnish PF 170 - 0.5 l.;

  • metal corners – 24 pcs.;
  • wood glue;
  • screws, nails;
  • cord ǿ 4mm – 6 m.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a hexagonal table

I decided to build a table, the table top of which is a wooden hexagon, following the points of this instruction. Making a hexagonal table with your own hands consisted of two stages: assembling the stool and the tabletop.

Assembling the support structure

  1. A 40 x 40 mm beam was cut with a saw into pieces for the legs and for the cross for the lining.
  2. From a piece construction plywood I cut out a square 600 x 600 mm with a jigsaw. The square will be the cover of the support stool.
  3. Using a jigsaw, I cut a board 12.5 x 600 x 600 mm in the shape of a hexagon with a side of 450 mm. The result is the central element of the tabletop.
  4. I started making crossbars for the legs of the table from the board.
  5. I made grooves in the lower part of the legs using a chisel and a drill to fix the spacers.
  6. I inserted the spacers into the grooves of the legs and pre-lubricated them with wood glue.

  1. A square of plywood was installed on the upper ends of the legs. The stool cover was secured with screws.
  2. Bottom belt supporting structure I tied it with a belt and left it alone for 1 day.

Making a countertop

  1. On the stool cover I secured pieces of 40 x 40 mm timber with steel corners and screws. The result was a star-shaped figure, the rays of which formed 6 sectors.

  1. In the center of the table I installed a hexagon from a board 12.5 x 600 x 600 mm. I made shallow holes in it on the back side with a drill.
  2. I made the same holes in the timber.
  3. The hexagon was installed on wooden dowels, lubricated with wood glue.
  4. I sawed the lining into pieces with a jigsaw and cut off the edges at an angle of 30 0.
  5. Starting from the center to the edges of the table, I filled the sectors with pieces of lining. The strips were fastened with nails through the protruding chamfer to the beam.

  1. I sanded the entire surface of the furniture with an abrasive wheel.
  2. I applied stain to the lining with a brush.
  3. After the stain had dried, the tabletop was covered with furniture varnish PF 170. After 24 hours, a second layer of varnish was applied.

  1. I polished the table with a sander until it had a perfectly smooth surface.
  2. Apply 3 layers of varnish.
  3. Along the outer perimeter of the table, a cord was inserted into the grooves of the lining. Then I coated it with varnish.

A tabletop treated in this way in an open space, even under a pergola, will retain its qualities for a long time. all year round, despite negative atmospheric phenomena.

Cost of materials

  • board 12.5 mm – 0.3 m 2 = 20 rub.;
  • lining 12.5 x 96 x 3900 mm (210 rubles x 2.6 m2) = 546 rubles;
  • timber 40 x 40 x 3000mm – 4 pieces = 160 rubles;
  • construction plywood 18 mm - 0.4 m = 20 rubles;
  • stain - 0.5 l. = 100 rub.;
  • PF varnish - 170 0.5 l. = 50 rub.;
  • steel corners – 24 pcs. x 2 rub. = 48 rub.;
  • wood glue 250 g = 160 rub.;
  • screws, nails, wooden dowels, cord - available.

Total costs were: 1104 rubles.

Labor costs

The time spent on making furniture according to drawings is summarized in the following table.

In total, assembling the hexagonal table with your own hands took 13 hours. In general, the table was assembled in 2 days.

Done country furniture for a gazebo is an interesting option, how to make a hexagonal table with minimal costs money and labor. For a master, this work does not pose any particular difficulties. A beginner, after watching a video master class on how to use tools, will cope with the task of how to make a hexagonal table. We must not forget to follow safety rules and use personal protective equipment.
