The balcony is an integral part of a residential apartment, so when carrying out renovations it is impossible not to pay attention to it interior decoration. From the point of view of functionality and ease of execution, the most suitable look decorating the interior of a balcony is painting its walls and ceiling using compositions for exterior work.
At the same time, you should know that you can paint not only bare walls, but also elements of interior decoration, if they are already installed, but for some reason their color does not suit the apartment owners, for example, plastic panels, wooden lining, etc.

Painting the balcony

In order to help the reader understand the issue of interior decoration, this article will talk about how to paint the inside of a balcony using available paints and varnishes.

In addition, it will be presented here detailed instructions optionally suitable paint for decorating the inside of the balcony, depending on the material from which its walls are made.

Paint selection
When purchasing paints and varnishes, you should keep in mind that even a glazed and insulated balcony is located outside the room, so its microclimate has certain characteristics. Unlike an apartment, it is characterized by high humidity and significant fluctuations in average annual and average daily temperatures, so any paint for interior decoration of a balcony should be intended for exterior use.

Among the most common paints for household use that meet these requirements, some main types can be distinguished:
1. Acrylic emulsion compositions for water based after drying, they form a durable protective film on the surface that is well resistant to moisture, high and low temperatures, and is also resistant to solar radiation. Features a wide range color shades, good vapor permeability, short drying time, and a complete absence of odor and toxic substances.
2. Paints based on latex and silicone resins have similar properties, but are characterized by low vapor permeability, but at the same time they have increased resistance to moisture and are able to repel various types of contaminants. Well suited for both natural and artificial materials.
3. Oil enamels made on the basis organic solvents, have good covering ability, high adhesion, after drying they form a moisture-resistant protective film on the surface that is well resistant to atmospheric factors. The negative qualities of such compositions are quite high price, long drying time, as well as harsh bad smell organic solvents during operation.
4. Enamels and oil-based paints are also highly resistant, but after drying protective film practically incapable of passing steam, so they are not recommended for treating surfaces made of mineral materials (concrete, plaster).

Advice!
When choosing paints and varnishes, you should also pay attention to the frost resistance of the coating and the resistance of the paints to ultraviolet radiation.

Finishing raw walls

Most often, the walls of the balcony can be made of reinforced concrete or brick. In such cases, the most suitable for DIY interior finishing will be water-based emulsion or dispersion compositions.

Often the balconies of our houses are framed by a brick wall that does not have any special aesthetics. Looking at it, you inevitably begin to think about the need for at least some finishing. This isn't a question these days - there are so many materials and options to go stylish. With a high-quality and correctly selected coloring composition, this finishing option can significantly modernize the appearance of your wall, and sometimes even slightly improve it in terms of thermal insulation. Along the way, it is possible to mask some irregularities and defects that may exist on the surface being painted.

What stages can this simple procedure be divided into? There are several of them:

1. Prepare the base. What does it mean to eliminate various types of irregularities and other existing defects.

2. Apply a primer layer, the purpose of which is to increase the adhesion of the paint to the brick surface.

3. Proceed to painting directly. The generally accepted tools for this purpose are classic brushes and rollers or a more modern spray gun.

With or without plaster?

What is the best way to paint a brick wall on a balcony? Some experts argue that painting walls should be done exclusively on the plastered surface. They say, without a perfectly smooth and flat wall you won't get good result. In addition, working with plaster is much easier.

Of course, you can also do plastering. But this work is quite lengthy and labor-intensive. If you want to save time, own strength, as well as finances, you can skip this step and start applying paint directly to the bricks.

Think about how to beautifully paint a brick wall on a balcony. If you apply some imagination and choose not the most ordinary option, you can give the room a completely different look. vintage style(or simply unique of its kind).

What paint to paint a brick wall on a balcony - choose wisely

If the coloring solution itself is chosen correctly, you can consider that half the battle is already done. This moment is one of the key ones. For decorative finishing It is important to decide not only on the color, but also on the composition, which must correspond to the existing conditions.

Let's look at how you can paint a brick wall on a balcony. Namely, what types of paint can be found on sale and purchased specifically for our purposes.

1. You will make an excellent choice (if we are talking about a balcony) by purchasing water-based paint. Its purpose is outdoor work, and therefore the coating formed by it has increased resistance to temperature changes, high humidity and various atmospheric influences. This quality is inherent in the optimally selected structure of the coloring composition.

2. But we do not recommend using oil paint (again, we are talking specifically about how to paint a brick wall on a balcony). The coating formed when painting with it is absolutely devoid of vapor permeability. As a result, there will be no air access to the surface of the brick. That is, excess moisture will not be able to evaporate into the atmosphere, and after a certain time the walls may become covered with various cracks, peelings and other defects.

3. If we are talking about acrylate paint, then a coating made from it may well be applicable on the balcony due to its wear resistance and ease of maintenance. The main disadvantage is the relatively high price.

In practice, most often the solution to the question “how to paint a brick wall on a balcony” is water-based paint. Various manufacturers produce it exclusively in white. Obtaining the required tone is achieved by purchasing a color scheme desired color. It must be mixed with white base paint in a certain proportion.

As a result, you will get the shade you need. And the question of how to beautifully paint a brick wall on a balcony will be theoretically solved!

How to prepare walls before painting

The uniformity of the future coating and, ultimately, its beautiful appearance depends on competently carried out preparatory work. appearance. What is included in such work? Their sequence looks like this:

1. Before painting the brick wall on the balcony, thoroughly clean its surface. All foreign elements and any contamination should be removed from it.

2. Next stage- level the base, eliminate any existing transitions and irregularities. This is done using putty, applied the required number of times until the defects are completely masked.

3. If there are cracks of a significant size, they should first be widened and areas that may crumble should be eliminated.

4. Already applied and dried putty should be thoroughly sanded. This is done with a special grater to which regular sandpaper is attached. Thanks to careful grinding, roughness and irregularities are eliminated, down to the smallest.

5. In the case of a perfectly flat surface that does not need leveling with putty, fill the seams between the bricks.

You need to know that...

  1. If you find mold on bricks, such a base cannot be painted without preliminary cleaning. The affected area should be thoroughly washed and treated with an antiseptic. It would be even safer to choose a paint that contains antibacterial additives.
  2. Before applying paint, the walls should be properly primed. This is done in order to increase adhesion. Experts always recommend buying a primer and a coloring composition of the same brand (manufacturer).
  3. Remember that the paint is applied to a completely dry surface. That is why you should wait at least 6 hours from the moment of applying the primer.

Let's go directly to the procedure

The result largely depends on the right choice coloring composition. If it is optimal, you should not expect any particular difficulties during the work process. But not only the composition is important. The color of the mixture should be successfully combined with the purpose that you have chosen for your balcony.

IN small spaces look best bright hues, because they have the property of expanding space in a visual sense.

The main factor when choosing paint is the climate of your balcony. If there is no glazing as such or it exists in a cold version, buy a composition whose purpose is external work. What paints are used most often when painting facades? One of the most quality species coatings are elastomeric. He has good performance and long service life.

The only drawback is the rather serious cost. Its composition does not require complex preparation or significant preliminary work with the surface. The structure is quite viscous, capable of masking small holes and minor transitions. In addition, this paint perfectly withstands moisture and temperature changes.

Preparing tools for work

The choice is most often made by the one who will conduct the coloring process. Working surfaces are most often spacious and simple in configuration areas. That is why the best option would be to purchase different sizes rollers. For hard-to-reach areas and corners, you need to stock up on brushes.

The most convenient way to paint is using a spray gun. But its cost is not so small. And purchase with a purpose disposable cannot be called expedient. At the same time, the paint applied with its help applies very well and evenly, with no visible transitions or seams.

Then decide on required thickness the created layer. Most often there are two of them, but if the surface is sufficiently smooth and well prepared, then there may be no need to apply a second layer.

How to paint a brick wall on a balcony yourself: a quick guide

Here's a small one step-by-step instruction for this simple process:

The floor and ceiling of the balcony along the contour should be covered with masking tape. The purpose of this action is to protect the specified coatings from accidental paint.

A suitable container should be provided in which paints of different colors are mixed. The result is optimal tone. It is advisable to immediately prepare a large volume, since next time you may not achieve exactly the same shade. It is ideal when one portion of the composition is prepared for the entire painting (for small balcony sizes).

Everything should be prepared necessary tools. It is important to securely secure the bristles in the brushes. Otherwise, the painted surface will be covered with fluff, which will significantly spoil the result from an aesthetic point of view.

When starting to paint, brushes or rollers should be moved in one direction. Most often, strokes are placed vertically - from top to bottom. If you want to change the direction of work during the process at your own discretion, you will end up with unsightly stains and drips, which are almost impossible to eliminate. In addition, the picture will be spoiled by individual clearly incoming lines.

The easiest way to avoid all of these problems is by using a sprayer, for which you just need to select the appropriate intensity of spraying paint to all the right places.

To illustrate the above material, we suggest looking at the photo below. How to paint a brick wall on a balcony is now, we hope, clear.

You can do it!

It is very important to ensure that the paint is applied equally to different parts of the wall. If you want to not only paint, but also decorate your surface, you can come up with some unusual option. To get a unique coating, you can mix a variety of shades, come up with some complex and unusual transitions, highlight the seams between bricks with a contrasting color, or even apply stylish graffiti on top of a painted wall.

Conclusion: a similar task (how to paint a brick wall on a balcony) can be done by anyone, even complete newbie under repair. In addition, this procedure leaves a lot of room for creativity. And due to the low cost and labor intensity, it will not be difficult for you to change a coating that is boring or not very successful from an aesthetic point of view.

Painting the walls and ceilings of balconies and loggias is the most budget-friendly finishing option that does not require special skills, special tools and expensive materials. Typically, exterior painting of a balcony does not require high-quality work, so almost anyone can paint the walls or ceiling with their own hands.

Rice. 1 Painting the walls on the balcony with your own hands

All surfaces, without exception, can be painted finishing materials, the main task is to solve the question - how to paint the balcony.

The paint used for finishing the balcony must meet the following requirements:

  • The balcony, although located with outside buildings, is a room where people are often found, and in the case of glazing and insulation, it becomes a full-fledged part of the living space. Therefore, the materials used must be environmentally friendly and not harm human health.
  • An uninsulated balcony and a room with cold glazing are susceptible to negative factors environment– high and low temperatures, high humidity, exposure to direct ultraviolet radiation. The paint must withstand the impact unfavorable factors– do not fade in the sun, wash off with water, crack or crumble.
  • An important characteristic of paints is vapor permeability - they must allow air to pass through well and prevent moisture from accumulating in the walls - this leads to dampness and the appearance of mold.

When deciding what color to paint the balcony walls, choose a paint so that the color of the walls most closely matches the facade (too dark a color may cause criticism from architectural services).

Main types of paints for exterior wall decoration

There are about a dozen types of dyes for exterior decoration of facades; the following types are mainly used in everyday life:

Acrylic

A leader in use in construction, water-based paints are environmentally friendly and harmless, therefore recommended for interior decoration of any type of residential premises. They are easy to apply, dilute and wash off with water, are odorless and dry within a few hours. They are resistant to abrasion and ultraviolet radiation, have good vapor permeability, and through tinting you can achieve a wide range of colors. On average, paint consumption for a two-layer coating is 500 g per m2, the painted surface does not lose quality for more than 10 years.

Latex

They form a waterproof film on the surface due to the latex in the composition, and therefore have low vapor permeability, dry quickly, can mask minor defects in the walls (cracks and small holes can be easily painted over), and are less resistant to ultraviolet radiation.

Silicone

They create a durable water-repellent, vapor-permeable coating (the walls can self-clean when it rains), have good elasticity and hiding power, allowing you to paint over significant defects. The paints have high stability resistant to abrasion and high temperatures, excellent adhesion, antibacterial additives in the composition prevent the formation of mold. They have the longest service life (about 20 years), take a long time to dry and have an unpleasant odor, consumption per layer is 200 g per 1 sq. m.

Fig 4. Acrylic paints - main parameters

Silicate

The basis is liquid glass, which provides high-strength adhesion to the painted surface on a mineral basis due to the formation of a stable chemical compound (they are very difficult to remove). The material allows moisture to pass through well, is resistant to ultraviolet radiation and aggressive chemicals, temperature changes, drying time – 24 hours.

Alkyd paints

Obtained by mixing synthetic resins and dye in a solvent (white spirit), they have high hydrophobic properties, dense film, wear resistance and resistance to shock loads, and are not affected by household chemicals. Alkyd materials They are not very suitable for painting walls, they have a pungent odor and are washed off with solvents, drying faster than oil-based ones.

Rice. 5 Latex paint parameters

Water-based

Harmless water-based paints are now obsolete due to high abrasion and poor resistance to low temperatures; as a budget option, water-based paints can be used to cover the ceilings of insulated balconies and loggias.

Painting various types of balcony surfaces

The usual material for unfinished balcony walls is concrete in panel houses, brick in masonry or plaster. Later, homeowners decorate the walls on the balcony with wood, plastic or metal coating, use drywall, wallpaper, ceramics, natural or artificial stone.

Painting drywall materials

The technology for installing drywall includes sealing the joints of sheets and holes after fastening with self-tapping screws. Then the sheet is completely covered with putty and rubbed with abrasive materials until a smooth and even surface is obtained. You will have to paint a puttied and primed sheet; for these purposes it is better to use water-based dyes, best choice of which is acrylic or water-based paint.

Rice. 6 Alkyd paints - properties

When deciding how to paint a balcony, you choose between a spray gun, a brush and a roller. The first method provides high quality coloring, but leads to high consumption coloring materials– it is mainly used for high-quality finishing of premises by specialists and requires good skills. Applying paint with a roller is an average quality method and can be done by almost everyone; it was possible to use a brush before the invention of the roller - the painting process is labor-intensive, takes a lot of time, and the resulting surface is of low quality.

Usually painting is done in two or more layers, the last layer is applied in the direction of the light.

Painting concrete, brick, cement plaster

It is better to cover a concrete or brick wall on a balcony using paint for facade works, you should choose from: acrylic, silicone, silicate, latex.

Finishing a balcony for painting includes cleaning the surface, treating areas with mold with alkaline solutions, and priming.

Rice. 7 Wood dyes

Concrete and brick materials have a high degree of roughness, and there are deep seams in the brickwork - in this case, for painting it is better to choose brushes that can penetrate into deep pores.

Painting wooden surfaces

Chipboard or fiberboard boards, wooden floor or the lining is painted after preparing the surface; the standard material for the primer is drying oil or oxol. More modern way– use of alkyd primer GF-021 on penaflalic varnish (GF-021 has low absorbency, therefore it is not designed for processing porous materials).

Advantage of processing wooden materials before painting is to reduce the consumption of expensive paint - porous wood absorbs it well, and drying oil creates a protective film when drying.

Color wooden surfaces can be done using any color dye or clear varnish, the most effective are alkyd-based paints and varnishes; a budget option is to use obsolete oil-based dyes with a long drying time. It is better to apply paint with a mohair roller or brush on a rough, porous surface.

Profile sheet – materials for painting

Rice. 8 Paints for metal

Usually painted profile sheet with traces of corrosion after a long service life (10 - 15 years) - this is easier and cheaper to do than dismantling the old coating from the inside and installing a new one. Traces of corrosion are removed sandpaper, you can use rust converters.

Produced by industry acrylic primers for metal with a rust converter. After applying them, the surface is painted with water-based acrylic paint; the method is better suited for finishing galvanized balcony profiles.

Conventional treated metal is painted with alkyd, polyester or epoxy polyester materials that can withstand high and low temperatures, high humidity.

Plastic painting

Quite often, plastic in exterior and interior siding or panels fades in the sun or decomposes over time, losing its appearance. It can be painted with special paint for plastic products PVC, sold in cans (Maraplane, Rainbow-180, Gamma, luminous Acmilight).

Rice. 9 Paint for plastic sheathing

When deciding what paint to paint the inside of the balcony, you should give preference to harmless water-based materials (acrylic, water-based emulsion), the type of paint chosen should be suitable for the material being painted. Painting a balcony or loggia with your own hands is not particularly difficult; when carrying out work, you should be guided by the basic rule - apply paint in at least 2 layers, finishing layer must be located parallel to the light flow.

When carrying out almost all painting work, a roller is used; the structure of its surface must correspond to the material being processed - fine-mesh foam rubber or rubber for smooth plastic or metal surfaces, mohair or fur coat for porous wood boards, concrete and brick materials.

Concrete walls on a balcony without finishing look unattractive. You can give an aesthetic appearance to the balcony using different finishes. The easiest way is to paint the walls. How to paint walls on a balcony with minimal costs We'll tell our readers.

How to choose the right coating

Any paint is suitable for finishing a balcony. Do not forget that the loggia is not heated and the temperature difference on it, especially in the northern part of Russia, is striking. During rains and spring, condensation may form on the walls, which will quickly render the paint unusable. The balcony will have to be repainted every year. To prevent this from happening, special paint is selected for external or facade work.

Based on their composition, paints for facade work are divided into groups:

  1. Water-based coating. For outdoor use it is used with silicone or latex additives. The paint dries quickly, does not have an unpleasant odor, is inexpensive, has a wide variety of colors, and is easy to apply. The disadvantages include fragility and, if the composition is chosen incorrectly, rapid fading.
  2. Alkyd enamel. The advantages include high water-repellent and protective properties. The surface coated with alkyd paint has a glossy shine and looks attractive. The disadvantages include: low vapor permeability and a pungent odor. Apply coating to walls glazed balcony It is possible only in the summer, when the room is well ventilated.
  3. Oil based paint. The advantage is that the walls are highly waterproofed and are not afraid of direct sunlight and large temperature changes. But it is not recommended to use an oil-based coating for brick and concrete, since the film will not allow the material to breathe and the room will quickly become susceptible to mold and mildew.

Important! When decorating a loggia, you need to paint not only the walls, but also other interior elements. For painting walls and wooden frame and the front door is better to use different compositions. Colors are selected either close in contrast or in harmony with each other. Do not forget that any loggia is part of an apartment or house. Therefore, its design is also important.

Answering the question of how to paint the walls on the balcony, we recommend that readers use water-based paint; for an open loggia, alkyd paint is suitable, as in the photo below.

Preparatory work

It is not recommended to apply paint directly to the concrete surface; the walls must first be prepared. To work you will need tools and materials:

  • Wide spatula.
  • GVL sheets or plaster.
  • Oil-based waterproof putty.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Self-tapping screws and metal profiles for gypsum fiber boards or beacons for plaster.
  • Primer for plaster or universal.

The walls are inspected and a preparation method is selected. On large balcony walls can be sheathed with gypsum fiber sheets. This is a dry plastering method. GVL is attached to a concrete wall using metal profiles or wooden blocks. Wooden sheathing less practical, since the material is hygroscopic and may begin to rot over time. To prevent this from happening, the bars are treated with antiseptic compounds or used machine oil.
At this stage, the walls of the balcony can be further insulated. To do this, mineral wool or polystyrene foam is laid between the sheathing. The mineral wool on top is covered with a vapor barrier.
GVL should be secured to the sheathing with metal screws. The fastener head is slightly recessed into the material. The seams and places of screw heads are puttied and rubbed with sandpaper.

GVL sheathing - quick way prepare the surface for painting. But this method is not suitable for small balconies, since the lathing and GVL sheets eat up part of the already insignificant area.

Walls small balcony covered with a monolithic layer of plaster. Plaster is applied in a small layer to pre-primed walls, large cracks are filled with putty. The top of the walls is covered with sandpaper and leveled. On this preparatory work concrete surface are completed.

Finish coating

Painting the walls on the balcony begins after preliminary priming. A primer is necessary for greater adhesion of the paint to the concrete surface. The composition is applied in two layers.
Next, using a roller and brush, paint the walls of the balcony. Small elements and corners are covered with the composition using a thin brush. You need to apply the paint in two layers, after drying the first one.
It is best to carry out finishing in the summer when dry and sunny weather. The drying time of the paint depends on its composition, indicated on the packaging by the manufacturer.
After drying, the balcony will take on a finished look and complement your apartment, as in the video below.

Hide

Painting a balcony is a tricky business. How to accomplish it with the greatest efficiency? Read our tips and get a brush in your hands! And even better - a spray gun (paint sprayer).

It is necessary to distinguish between painting the balcony outside and inside. They have different requirements. Exterior painting must be resistant to temperature changes, moisture, and other weather influences.

The difference between external and internal painting of a balcony

Applying paint using a roller

Interior painting should, first of all, ensure a comfortable stay in the painted room and mask flaws in the finishing work.

As a rule, on external cladding balconies are now either , or . These materials received a finishing color during the manufacturing process.

But in some cases they need additional coloring. For example, in case of damage polymer coating profiled sheet.

Selecting paint and primer

depends on the material you are going to paint

Painting of corrugated sheets

Applying paint to corrugated sheets

In this case, it is better to remove the panels and paint them indoors.

Before painting the profiled sheet, you need to carry out basic preliminary preparation. Clean off the rust with sandpaper, remove oil stains with a solvent, putty on the scratches and apply a primer (a primer is a layer of a special coating: drying oil, alkyd or epoxy resins, improving the adhesion of the painted material and paint).

The best varnishes for painting metal are: alkyd, acrylic, epoxy, polyurethane. The coating is best applied using a sprayer.

Painting PVC panels

Painting PVC panels

For painting plastic panels use special compounds. For example, acrylic paints Galamix series. They are wear-resistant, do not get dirty, and do not degrade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

Like any material, PVC boards must be prepared for painting. But, as a rule, it is enough to simply degrease with alcohol.

It must be remembered that painting usually makes PVC panels darker than their original color. This does not benefit them: dark color“absorbs” better Sun rays, the plastic underneath overheats, which leads to a reduction in its service life.

Painting chipboard

How to paint a chipboard floor

But perhaps you inherited a balcony framed chipboards Khrushchev era? Or are you the owner of a loggia fenced with brickwork or a concrete parapet? It is unlikely that we will report anything new about painting chipboards.

The process is well known: stripping, including removing old paint, degreasing, priming, filling defects with putty. The so-called “bumper” primer is excellent - with which motorists prime the bumpers of their cars.

Paint – acrylic or oil is best. Apply using a sprayer, brush or roller. At least two layers.

Painting brickwork

How to paint brick

Painting brick walls and parapets requires more careful preparation: dirt, mortar deposits are removed with a spatula and a metal brush, and the seams between the bricks are puttied. If mold has grown anywhere on the masonry, then this area must be treated with an alkaline solution.

An antibacterial acrylic emulsion should be used as a primer.

Water-based paint should be used for exterior use. Oil paints are not recommended. They create a dense crust through which the brick stops “breathing,” which leads to its gradual destruction and increased moisture and vapor permeability.

Water-based paints are produced only white. To give them any other color you need, they need to be tinted. Colors are special additives to give the emulsion a particular color. They are sold in the store; you can choose the shade you need using a color chart or ask the seller to select one for you.

Color is added to liquid paint and mix thoroughly: for this purpose, say, an electric drill with a paddle attachment is perfect. But you can just do it with your hands: water-based paints are absolutely non-toxic.

Painting on concrete

Fundamentally, painting a concrete parapet is not much different, but in this case it is better to use paints on a plastic or silicate base.

Painting a concrete floor

And, most importantly, we must remember that external painting of balconies is usually a collective matter. Supervisory and architectural authorities do not like it when balconies apartment building painted with “spots” in different colors.

Therefore, the choice decision facing material and the type of subsequent painting is, as a rule, decided by a meeting of residents, and personal desires to distinguish themselves in any way should be restrained.

This is where your imagination can go wild, when painting the inside of the balcony. Here the choice depends primarily on whether your balcony (loggia) is combined with a room or not.

If combined, then the principle is not simple, but clear: all “finishing” work should be aimed at ensuring that the balcony combined with the room is in maximum harmony with its interior design. If the balcony is not combined with the room, then the limits of your imagination will be limited by the functional features of the materials that you have already used to cover the inside of the balcony or loggia.

Painting plywood sheathing

Painting plywood sheathing

Most often, surfaces sheathed with plywood are painted on a balcony or loggia. Essentially this is necessary measure: the material looks painfully unpresentable. However, the technology of painting it is not as simple as it might seem.

Let's turn to such a famous expert on interior painting balconies like . After parting with the role of the son of Lieutenant Schmidt, he made money for many years on the fertile soil of painting work and even achieved the high title of “Putter-painter of balcony profile I category” at the exhibition of national economic achievements in 1967:

Alexander Balaganov in his mature years

First of all, you need to decide whether you will preserve the natural pattern of the plywood or not,” Alexander Mikhailovich immediately sums up. - In the first case, you will need a special varnish or paint that does not hide the structure of the wood.

In the second, you can use any paint, preferably water-based. But a primer with antiseptic properties is first applied, and the entire surface is sanded with fine-grained abrasive sandpaper.

- What kind of antiseptic primer is this?

Typically these are acrylic-based water-emulsion compositions. For example, Northex soil. Moreover, it is better to paint and prime the plywood on the balcony from both sides - not only the front, but also the back. And not in one layer. This will help preserve the material in case of high humidity.

The usual tool for this is a brush or roller, but I prefer to use a spray: it’s faster and the color is more even.

- It is no coincidence that Mikhail Samuelevech so persistently advised you: “Get dusty, Shura, dusty!”

It happened. But listen to me carefully!

Contender No. 2 for painting from facing balcony materials– . If only because its cladding looks rather monotonous, like a corridor in a local hospital. And the joints between the sheets are clearly visible.

Painting drywall

Applying paint to drywall

The difficulty is that drywall is very sensitive to moisture. Accordingly, it is necessary to select painting materials. So, polymer mixtures are best suited for putty. Cement putties are also good, but gypsum putties in this case no good.

Carefully putty the joints of the drywall sheets and the heads of the mounting screws. This is especially important because in these places the gypsum “filling” of the sheet can come out, including in the form of dust. You cannot paint on a dusty surface.

Personally, today I use UNIFLOT composition made in Germany for puttying joints. It reliably protects all exposed gypsum surfaces. But since it shrinks a lot, after it dries, I go through the seams again with a more elastic putty VETONIT - LR+ (often called “betonite” in the Russian Federation), and then once again I wipe all the seams on top with fine-grained abrasive paper.

If you see that the top sheet of cardboard has separated from the inner gypsum layer, cut it off completely sharp knife cardboard in the defective area, wipe with abrasive sandpaper and putty this area.

When puttingtying seams, try to ensure that there are no “smudges” or other “snot” left on the visible surface: it will be very difficult to remove them with sandpaper or even a rasp, and any more powerful tool such as a grinder with an abrasive wheel will easily cripple the plasterboard sheet itself .

For priming, do not use alkyd mixtures: the drywall will swell under them, outer sheet cardboard - peel off. It is better to use water-soluble types of primer.

How to stick serpyanka

Another option is to cover the drywall sheathing entirely with fiberglass scrim. It is also called “cobweb”.

As a rule, a cloth with a thickness of 0.3 mm is sufficient, but if you have a rough surface or cracks, then you need to take a cloth with a thickness of 0.5 mm. The “cobweb” sticker will allow you not only to mask existing defects, but also to hide future ones: for example, cracks that appear when the house shrinks.

But first you must remember to prime the skin. Oscar primer is best suited for fiberglass.

Fiberglass is glued in the same way as wallpaper, but the glue is applied not to the canvas, but to the wall. I use special Wellton glue, but in its absence you can also use regular PVA. Fiberglass sheets can be glued either end-to-end or overlapping. This may be necessary if, for example, the edges of the panel are damaged. In the latter case, do not press the 3-4 cm wide strips too tightly along the edges of the sheets to be glued.

After the main part of the panel is glued, run along and in the middle of these unglued strips with a sharp knife and separate the “overlapping” areas from the base. You will get a “butt” joint, which you need to carefully go over with a spatula so that it is leveled and glued to the base.

This is what fiberglass canvas looks like

The cracks between the fiberglass sheets should also be puttied, after which paint can already be applied.

For painting, it is best to choose water-based compositions. They are sold exclusively in white, but by adding color you can give your coating any color.

Do not forget that when drying, water-based coatings lighten somewhat. In addition, the paint can be either matte or glossy. The differences between them are fundamental: matte hides defects in the painted surface, glossy, on the contrary, reveals them. But if your soul is for glamor, you will have to suffer, leveling out the slightest fluff and hairs on the upholstery!

Apply the paint with a roller in two or three layers. Moreover, the first layer is done with horizontal movements of the roller, the second layer is done with vertical movements. If you apply the third layer, then again with horizontal movements of the roller. It is not necessary to wait until each layer of paint is completely dry: water-based emulsion can be applied on wet surfaces.

You can paint drywall with both oil paint and enamels. But they are rarely used and only after very careful priming. - And when painting plywood, you can use “cobweb”? - Absolutely right! It should be used wherever possible. It only improves the quality of the coating!

Painting the lining

Painting lining

The next balcony candidate for painting is. True, the lining itself has a texture that is pleasant to the eye, and there seems to be no need to paint it. But applying an antiseptic primer and varnishing is an almost necessary condition. Especially if you used lower grade lining.

In this case, adding tinting additives to the varnish will allow you to improve the appearance of the wood. For example, create the impression that you have lined your balcony with dark bog oak. Or “bleached” wood.

Managers in construction supermarkets will be happy to help you choose the right additive (“color”) for this purpose and tell you how to prepare the mixture.

-We talked in sufficient detail on our website about finishing the balcony from the inside with clapboard. However, we also ask you: what varnishes do you recommend for painting the lining on the balcony?

I use scuba tanks “Tikkurila Panneli Assa”, “Teknos Natura”, “Commander Tobago”. But they are not suitable for covering the floor if you made it from lining. In this case, it is necessary to use more durable alkyd varnishes: “Teknos Helo” and “Tikkurila Unica Super”. This is the difference between painting the floor and walls on the balcony.

- And the ceiling?

For the ceiling you can use the same varnishes as for the walls. But if you external cladding If the balcony is made of lining, it is better to use “Teknos Futura 40”, Teknos “Woodex Aqua Solid”, “Tikkurila Vinha”, “Tikkurila PikaTeho”. Or pearl paint-glaze “Tikkurila Valtti Arctic”.

Yes, by the way, it is better to treat the railings with Tikkurila Valtti Non-Slip anti-slip oil. I will give the same advice if you want to paint a completely wooden balcony - you know, there are such things in old houses, cottages...

- Alexander, we are not on courses foreign languages! Tell me better, what kind of paint should be used to paint a completely crappy, knotty lining so that nothing defective is visible?

Take any oil. Fill all the cracks and plug any fallen knots with plugs. Clean off rot and mold with a knife and sandpaper. Remove wood “lint” with abrasive sandpaper. Prime with an antiseptic compound. Apply paint in three or four layers with a brush, without skimping.

Just don't use very bright or dark paint. Otherwise it will quickly fade and lose its attractiveness.

Oh, by the way, I almost forgot: paints different types(acrylic, oil, water-based) do not combine well with each other. If, for example, you decide to apply water-based paint to a panel that was previously covered with oil paint, then remove the old paint down to the wood - otherwise the new one won’t stick!

-Is painting euro lining different from painting lining?

Actually, we were talking about painting eurolining. Domestic lining has high humidity and must be dried. Let's say wait summer season, or even two seasons, and only then paint! But, of course, during the drying period it must be soaked in an antiseptic composition. The same Tikkurila.

Painting the facade walls adjacent to the balcony

- When painting a balcony, another nuance arises. As a rule, the facade wall of the house adjacent to it - brick or panel - is not finished with anything during the cladding. But I would like to paint it so that it would look harmonious with the rest of the balcony...

Painting the walls adjacent to the balcony

The fundamental difference from painting external brick or concrete walls is one thing. Someone can see the exterior painting from a great distance. You can see the inner one at close range. You live with her.

At the same time, paint will not hide any defect. Rather, it will reveal. Therefore, preparing the interior wall for painting requires special care.

Carefully putty all the seams, clean off with a spatula or an abrasive wheel all traces and splashes of solution from visible surfaces. Apply primer. And then apply the same fiberglass canvas that I recommended using when painting drywall.

By the way, you can pre-plaster a brick wall. But not necessarily: the “web” already provides good quality work.

Selection of balcony colors

General view of the painted balcony

Choose water-based or acrylic paint. By color - depending on the artistic intent. I just want to note that, as a rule, they try to paint a balcony, especially if it faces north or is shaded by a large tree or a neighboring building, in light colors: white, blue, pale green, steel. After all, this is the place where a person goes to receive that portion of “white light”, without which life is impossible.

If your balcony or loggia faces south and has sufficient lighting, then lovers of rich colors can use “heavier” paints: ocher, orange, scarlet, dark blue, the one that in the West is called “the color of Krupp metal.” These are the paints you can use to cover the facade of your house.

But for the rest of the balcony you should still use lighter colors. The fact is that panels, especially plastic ones, do not like overheating, and dark colors lead to heating of the material.

- Alexander! You didn’t say anything about painting panel slabs, and many readers live in panel buildings...

The technology is fundamentally the same. But, as a rule, the panel requires more thorough cleaning, especially in those places where there are traces of mold and mildew. Wipe them with an alkaline solution. If you're not too lazy, wash the entire part of the wall that will be painted.

Apply primer. Usually "Betonkontakt" is used. Fill dents and holes with ST 225 (this is plaster on cement based) or ST 127 (the same, but on a polymer base).

You can plaster the entire surface. Cut off protruding irregularities with a grinder and an emery wheel, and prime the “cuts.” In principle, you can already paint, but, as usual, I advise sticking a cobweb on the wall. Get a perfect (as much as possible in life) surface.

- Many people complain that paints take a long time to dry and smell terrible. How can you get rid of such side effects?

Balcony paint without odor

Strong-smelling and long-drying paints are a thing of the past,” answers Alexander. - These are oil paints, which are now almost never used in construction. In addition, if your balcony is not glazed, the smell will disappear well.

And if it is glazed, then you will have to close it for 24 hours while the paint dries and not go out on it. And then thoroughly ventilate for the same amount of time.

That's why painting oil paints and should be carried out only in warm and dry seasons.

But now water-based paints are widely available. They dry in just an hour and a half.

If you can’t stand the smell at all, then use acrylic paints. They don't smell.

Painting some modern materials used for finishing the balcony

It's a pity, but painting modern species coatings - aluminum panels, Mr. Balaganov could not tell us due to his advanced years and lack of relevant production experience.

Painting MDF panels

Painting MDF panels

We would like to add that in many cases, MDF boards, for example, will be cheaper to replace than to paint. But, for those who are keen to do painting work, we will inform you that there are two ways to paint MDF panels: “wet” and “dry”.

"Wet", in general, is carried out according to standard scheme: surface cleaning, sanding with abrasive paper.

Since the degreasing compounds (solvents) usually used in construction are too aggressive for MDF, it is better to wipe (wash) the sheet with the most common dishwashing compound.

The primer should be acrylic and applied using a pneumatic spray gun. good blood pressure– 3 atm. Allow to dry at temperatures above 30 degrees for 4-5 hours.

For painting, experts recommend using Italian-made paintwork “Milesi spa”. Apply also with a spray. Dry for 14 hours at temperatures up to 50 degrees and humidity not higher than 80%. Apply a second layer in the same way, and a third if necessary.

After painting, two layers of polyurethane varnish are applied to the panel. If the varnish has a “gloss effect”, then it should also be polished using special pastes.

"Dry" The method of painting MDF panels is that microparticles of paint are applied to the boards using a special sprayer, and then these microparticles are sintered at high temperature.

Taking into account the fact that when performing both the first and second methods of painting, the panels have to be dismantled (drying, and even more so sintering, must be carried out in a special chamber - it is unlikely that you will be able to heat the air on your balcony to 50 degrees for 28 hours), then indeed , it will be easier to buy and install new MDF boards in the color you need.

Painting aluminum panels

Painting aluminum panels is obviously easier than painting any other material.

Painting aluminum panels

The surface is degreased with any solvent, cleaned of dirt, and corroded areas are removed. Phosphogrunt is used as a primer, but if the panel is not affected by corrosion, you can immediately begin painting.

Painting is also currently done with an overlay (sticker) of “cobwebs”. But if decorative, figured plastering is used, the color of the material is obtained by adding color at the stage of preparing the mixture.

Prices for painting a balcony

From the table below you can find out how much it will cost you to paint your balcony with the hands of hired specialists. We must assume that the cost of their services will greatly depend on the quality of the surface being painted, on the paint that you suggest they use, and on other factors.

Below are the average prices for the Moscow region, taking into account tax payments. Work “by agreement” will cost 40 percent less.
