Mini chain sawmill: mechanism design

The sawmill cuts any wood - preferably freshly harvested, heavier - dried, as we say - steamed. It is easier to saw coniferous logs, deciduous softwood - alder, maple, poplar, aspen, harder - elm, ash, oak. It was harder for everyone to work with steamed acacia. This species has very hard, dense wood.
The maximum log length the sawmill can cut is 7 m long, the maximum log diameter is 40 cm. Sawing speed is 3 meter board saws through a pine blank with a diameter of 25 cm in 7 minutes. In one day I sawed 12 white acacia logs, replacing three chains.

Mini-sawmill - rather correctly called sawing machine, is a welded frame made of rectangular pipes 60 X 30 mm. I cut the blanks with a grinder and cooked them inverter welding. All protruding ends of the pipes were trimmed with a strip.

One pair of frame posts serves for support; a movable frame is mounted on the second pair of posts, onto which a steel plate 35 by 35 cm, 8 mm thick, is attached through rubber pads. The cushions are installed to reduce vibration. Mounted on the plate is a Briggs Series 650 vertical shaft engine with a vertical crankshaft. As long as it starts and runs smoothly, gasoline consumption (Ai-92) is low. Launch - manual, with a cord.

An aluminum profile A with two strands is pressed onto the motor shaft. The force from the engine is transmitted through two belts of size 750 profile A to a pulley of the same diameter on the cutting bracket. Pulleys with a diameter of 80 mm along the outer edge were adapted from the Neva MB-2 walk-behind tractor. But the engine shaft had to be bored by a turner.

The driven pulley, through a roller that rotates on two bearings (204), transmits force to the sprocket, and then to the saw chain. Tensioning the chain and belts manually, with fixation in both cases with two bolts and nuts. I installed an additional tension bolt on the chain tensioner, but later abandoned it as unnecessary. The force of the pliers is enough to keep the chain tensioned. I tighten the belts in the same way - I loosen the nuts a little and press them into the end of the bracket with a hammer, tighten the nuts - and that’s it. To facilitate the operation of the chain, it is constantly lubricated with machine oil. For oil, I attached a canister of nigrol (the color matched the paint :)), and a faucet from a Druzhba chainsaw.

To set the depth of the sawn board, a vertical screw is installed, when rotated the frame moves with the saw unit. At first, the size was set using a ruler. Now I have become an experienced framer and set the thickness by the revolutions of the screw (like a drunkard measures vodka by boules :))

The sawmill is installed on guide rails using 4 support rollers. The rollers were converted from tensioners from Neva. I ordered it and had to buy it back, despite the price - 700 rubles each, you can order it from a turner, it will cost less.

Bus sawmill and its features

Bus sawmill (or as it is also called chain sawmill) in its principle of operation resembles the operation of a band sawmill. During the processing of a log, it itself lies motionless, and the cut is carried out using a saw mounted on a moving carriage. Unlike a band sawmill, the design of a bus sawmill includes not a band sawmill, but chain Saw. By the way, if necessary, you can make a sawmill of this type yourself - it will be more economical than buying a mini sawmill in a store.
Murka sawmills are intended mainly for sawing round timber into boards and beams. These sawmills can be easily installed even in unsuitable areas, right in a clearing in the forest, where there is no power supply at all. These sawmills are equipped self-powered, the consumption of AI 92 gasoline in sawmills of this type is minimal, but despite this, the diameter of the sawn logs can be very large. Drawings of a tire sawmill, if desired, can be found on the Internet.

The cost of tire sawmills is relatively low and the dimensions are so convenient that they allow you to transport the sawmill at any time. comfortable spot without any problems. Tire sawmill "Murka" is produced in accordance with GOST, while all necessary requirements safety and sanitation in their production. Their design is so reliable that it makes it possible to use the equipment in any climate zone, not only in our country, but also abroad. If you have limited quantity free space for equipment, we recommend buying a mini bus sawmill. It does the job just as well as a regular one, and takes up much less space.

What will it take? Any chain sawmill " homemade» consists of parts such as a chainsaw, a steel frame and rail guides.

Many people are interested in the question of whether homemade chain sawmills will be as reliable as industrially manufactured mini chain sawmills. It is impossible to answer this unequivocally, because everything depends on how well the work is carried out by the home craftsman.

We should not forget that competent drafting A detailed and thoughtful drawing of a chain sawmill is already half of your success.

The tire is raised and lowered manually by turning the height adjustment knob.

The chain on the bar is changed in 1 minute, the time for sharpening the chain with a 4mm round file is 10-15 minutes.

Breaking a chain link is a rare occurrence; riveting a chain is an extremely simple operation.

The chain can withstand about 10 sharpenings; tooth alignment is not required.

One sharpening of the chain is enough for 2-3m3 (if the forest is clean softwood),

One tire is enough for 80-90m3, the drive sprocket is enough for 80-90m3.

Lubrication - any engine or transmission oil for;

Drip feed into the tire.

Sharpening a chain requires skill or a sharpening machine.

In winter it cuts with the same quality and ease as in summer - without “waves” and “stubble”.

The logs are not centered and do not rise anywhere.

Maintenance: tire with a hoist - 1 person, without a hoist - 2 people;

Due to individual cutting of logs, you can obtain a yield of up to 65 unedged boards.

Do not leave the device unattended while it is switched on.

Repair or construction of a private house, construction of a bathhouse or processing of felled trees - all these are activities that can be carried out by a mini sawmill. But will you really have to spend a lot of money to purchase such a unit? Many knowledgeable craftsmen who offer drawings of chain sawmills online believe that no. And if you are willing to spend a little time and effort, you can try making a chain sawmill with your own hands.

What will it take? Any “homemade” chain sawmill consists of such parts as a chainsaw, a steel frame and rail guides.

To make a chain sawmill, a metal frame should be attached to the saw bar. The space between the tire and the frame will be equal to the thickness of the resulting board. Therefore, you should decide in advance what it will be and prepare a drawing of a home chain sawmill.

By the way, if you increase the distance between the tire and the frame, you can get a homemade tire sawmill for sawing timber.

Choosing a chainsaw for a mini chain sawmill - another one important step. Such a unit must be powerful, economical and have good chain sharpening.
Will a DIY chain sawmill work efficiently?
Many people are interested in the question of whether homemade chain sawmills will be as reliable as industrially manufactured mini chain sawmills. It is impossible to answer this unequivocally, because everything depends on how well the work is carried out by the home craftsman.

And here, durable rail guides are one of the most important requirements, without which it is impossible to create a reliable chain sawmill. A well-thought-out mechanism for fastening logs is also very important.
Safety rules for those who decide to make a chain sawmill with their own hands

There is no doubt that a DIY chain sawmill is quite possible. However, it is important not only to assemble such a device, but also to ensure the safety of its use. Perhaps this is the most important thing in which factory-made chain sawmills are superior to similar home-made designs.

However, subject to a number of rules, mini chain sawmills home assembly can also be quite reliable and productive.

The most important thing is not to use low-quality metal or used bearings when assembling a homemade chain sawmill. It is also advisable to install a new chainsaw with sufficient power.

Tire and disc sawmills "Murka"

LLC "Murka" is a regional enterprise producing woodworking equipment. One of our main directions is the production of mini sawmills, which began in 2008. The entire production cycle of sawmills is carried out under strict quality supervision. For example, before painting a sawmill, it is assembled, the parts are adjusted to each other, and only after that it goes to the workshop for painting. Murka bus sawmills mean reliability and durability of the design, ease of setup and operation, low price and a 2 year warranty. Our principle collaboration with clients it is honesty and decency, and the company’s goal is to make your business accessible and convenient!

Advantages of the Murka bus (chain) sawmill

Tire or chain sawmills produced by our company are the best solution for initial and medium-sized businesses, in agricultural activities. The advantages of tire sawmills are light weight, reliability and durability of the structure, export quality of the resulting lumber, low price, warranty service 2 years, affordable service and rich support. Not a single disk or band sawmill with similar parameters can be fully serviced by one operator, but the Murka bus sawmill can be operated without problems. By purchasing a tire sawmill from us, you get a business without losses, guaranteed to become an active businessman, a successful farmer or an economic summer resident.

Murka tire sawmills are divided into: gasoline and electric, which are capable of operating both in any climatic zones of our vast homeland and beyond. Gasoline sawmills are high performance, since the cutting tool based on the powerful STIHL MS660 chainsaws cuts in both directions. Mobility, light weight and independence from the electrical network will allow you to transport a gasoline sawmill from place to place in a short time. Practical, the STIHL MS660 chainsaw can be used separately from the sawmill by simply removing it. As our practice shows, out of 10 sawmills purchased from us, 8 are gasoline sawmills! Electric sawmills in turn, this is low energy consumption, since the technical and economic indicators of electric motors correspond to the level of world technology and noiselessness, again a distinctive quality, available only to electric motors with a simple design and the absence of moving contacts.

The cost of lumber is quite high for most private craftsmen involved in private construction, which forces them to show miracles of ingenuity. Using simple technologies sawing logs, you can not only save money, but effectively and efficiently use all available personal resources.

First of all, this concerns wood and equipment, because they lay the foundation successful work. Great alternative a stationary sawmill is from a power saw that you can make yourself.

What can be made from an electric saw

Since sawing logs into bars and boards always requires cutting equipment, factory sawmills use rack (band) and circular saws. Naturally, for construction small house or making several cubes of boards, it is impractical and expensive to purchase such a machine. The best alternative he might become homemade design based on a chain saw.

Its potential is quite enough to satisfy the small needs of private developers, and just ordinary home craftsmen who cannot afford ready-made lumber. The electric saw here is the main device, combining a universal mechanical feed of the cutting tool and an electric drive. Chain sawmill the best way, Unlike circular saw, is suitable for longitudinal bucking and sawing of logs, as it has:

  • rough cut sufficient for efficient sawdust ejection;
  • capaciously configured electromechanical feed of the cutting tool (chain);
  • relatively low cost.

How to make a sawmill from an electric saw with your own hands

In fact, the cost of all equipment depends on the task at hand. It is important to correctly assess the potential of existing equipment. Everything must be taken into account - from the density of the wood to the power of the electric motor of the saw itself. However, all these calculations are quite simple. In addition, in almost any forested area it is possible to buy round timber, which is significantly cheaper in cost than lumber.

For creating to make a homemade sawmill using an electric saw you will need:

    1. Bed, in the amount of two pieces.
    2. Fasteners both for the saw itself and for fixing the workpiece (log).
    3. Electrical wire with switch and plug socket.

Advice: In most cases we are dealing with wood that has a low fiber density. These are pine, linden, and similar trees, which will make it easier to select a saw based on an electric motor. For efficient work A saw with a power of more than 1.5 kW will almost always do. The only limitation here will be the speed of its operation. The stronger the engine, the faster the work and the cleaner the cut.

The above list should be discussed in more detail using one design as an example, since it is not possible to describe all of their modifications in one article. This is perhaps one relatively cheap, but very popular project. And the quality of the cut is almost as good as the famous mobile sawmill Logosol.

bed

There are two of them in the design under consideration: one for the saw, and the other for fixing the workpiece. The operating principle of this unique chain sawmill is based on manual feeding of the electric saw to the workpiece. It is easy to understand that it must move along a rigid structure, which is usually called the machine bed. In our case, it is a rigid, but necessarily smooth edged board in all two planes. To make the guide rigid, you need to frame it with two tin corners. They are easy to buy at a metal building profile store.

It is attached to wooden poles. As such, you can use blanks (wood logs) or cuttings of timber with a cross-section of more than 18 cm. The frame itself will stand more stable, and it is also more convenient to fix a board of maximum width.

A second frame should be placed a little lower to secure the workpiece. Its height is selected experimentally, but it is better to use linings made of boards exact size. The structure of the log frame itself is located on the same blocks.

Connecting them together is a personal preference, since to work it is enough to firmly dig in or screw its posts. The distance between two parallel beds is set arbitrarily. However, given the length of the saw bar, you should not install it more than 3 cm away. It is better that it stands close to the saw guide and strictly parallel horizontally relative to it.

Fastening the saw and fixing the workpiece

To fix the electric saw on the guide frame, use a metal corner. A saw is attached to one shelf using bolts. To the other cheek of the corner, which lies on the plane of the guide board, two additional aluminum, but better steel, corners are fixed.

The main angle should have a wide cross-section, preferably more than 10 by 10 cm. This way the saw itself will sit more rigidly, and it will be easier to screw the guide angles from the bottom of the second shelf of the square. The guide angles should be secured with a small gap, taking into account the width of the guide frame. This design allows the saw to be easily removed from the stand. This will be more convenient for setting up equipment and dismantling it at the end of work.

Fix the preparation can be done in several ways:

  • Along the ends of the log using temporarily driven nails
  • Using special pads (saddles curved in a semicircle)

Fastening logs using hardware is a temporary option when you need to cut several logs. However, for constant and mass sawing, it is advisable to make special fasteners. Saddles that approximate the radius of the logs are usually made of rigid steel tape. As a last resort, parallel bars are used on each stand of the frame.

Electrical equipment

The electrical equipment of a homemade sawmill cannot be called complex, since most of it is already present in the saw. You will need electrical wire, a special connector and plug, as well as a switch. The entire future electrical circuit will look like a universal extension cord, similar to the cord of a floor lamp or sconce.

The presence of a switch will allow you to better control the operation of the homemade product, and a special connector for connecting the saw fork is convenient for moving, as it does not get stuck anywhere. To prevent the power supply cord from accidentally jumping out during operation, it must be secured to the saw itself with a bridle or with electrical tape. Provide safe work It will help to have an overload and short circuit protection circuit breaker in the electrical panel.

Conclusion

A chain sawmill based on improvised means is no worse than factory equipment. The only thing it loses in is the speed of wood processing. But considering the nature and purpose of use homemade equipment, That is unnecessary. With just a power saw on hand and some money to put together an electrical extension cord, you have the perfect opportunity to have your own sawmill.

Not everyone can afford to purchase a ready-made sawmill. Therefore, there are craftsmen who are able to make a tire sawmill in their own. If you follow the instructions and find everything necessary elements, then it will take a little time to assemble this machine. Of course, difficulties may arise during the work, but this is not a big deal, since everyone has the right to make mistakes, especially since in any case everything can be redone.

The manufacture of a homemade tire sawmill is carried out in stages

- first you need to choose a place for the sawmill. The platform should be slightly inclined, which will help when cutting. You will not need to put much effort on the carriage.

A carriage is created, the electric motor and tire will be attached to it. It will move along guide pipes (see photo). Everything is extremely simple and effective, the carriage cleans itself from the guides a large number of sawdust If desired, you can build a carriage that moves using rollers, but the design will become more complicated;

It is best to choose an asynchronous motor, and no less than 3000 rpm at 2 kW.

It is also necessary to purchase a 40 cm long tire with a chain for longitudinal cut. The sharpening angle is 10 degrees. The tire will be attached to the carriage using two bolts in the standard groove. The flail is tensioned by hand, while at the same time the bolts that secure the tire are tightened. The engine shaft must rotate at least 3000 rpm for the tire to withstand such a load. The number of teeth on the drive sprocket ranges from 6 to 9, with a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters;

You need to weld a thrust bearing onto the stand, on which the log will rest. The log and the entire support are lifted manually, and the mechanism is fixed with bolts (as shown in the photo).

Advice! To attach the sprocket to the main engine shaft, you need to drill a small hole on the shaft, this must be done with the engine running, then make a thread and secure the drive sprocket with a bolt;

- as practice shows, a 2-kilowatt engine does its job quite well. It does not heat up, and the sawmill itself does not create unnecessary noise;

Due to the fact that the sawmill has a similar design to the sawmill, its bar groove is not always well lubricated. Also, the drive sprocket remains without required quantity oils Industrial chain sawmills are supplied required quantity lubricants through a special hole. The sprocket is also lubricated by oil, which enters through the hole. But it would be best to lubricate those areas that are subject to maximum friction, and this is: the groove of the tire and all the sprockets that are in the mechanism. It is best to serve the oil using drip system, in all rubbing areas.

Advantages of Murka tire sawmills over their cheaper analogues.

1) Rail track. On such equipment (mini-sawmills), the rail track is mainly made of metal corner. On our sawmill, it is made of a much more durable channel (similar to band sawmills)

2) Fastening the log. Convenient fastenings and log clamps are more reliable than analogues. (more reliable than similar units on some more industrial band sawmills)

3) Secure fastening saw frame to the rail track by means of several types of support and side pressure rollers, which prevents the legs of the sawmill from “bouncing” when moving it along the rails.

4) The sawmill is equipped with one of the most productive chainsaws STIHL 660 and cutting tool. There is a possibility quick removal chainsaws and use independently from the sawmill.

5) Reliable steel structure the sawmill itself, which sets the exact geometry when sawing.

6) There is no need to raise the log to a level of 70 cm. It is rolled to a level of 20 cm directly from the slopes.

7) Possibility of sawing logs in both directions (the cutting tool cuts in both directions).

8) The sawmill comes already complete with a chainsaw and cutting tool (you buy it and cut it).

The Logosol sawmill can cut any type of wood: birch, larch, pine, oak, aspen, etc.
The cutting accuracy is quite high. You can cut logs into boards, beams or millimeter sheets of any size at your request.

Additional sawmill equipment

If there is access to a 3-phase power supply at the sawing site, it is possible to use an E5000 saw unit with a 5 kW, 3x380 V electric motor. This saw unit is quieter and more powerful. It is easier to operate than a gas drive. The E5000 saw unit is supplied with a 5 kW electric motor. or 9 kW., with special winding. The electric saw is equipped with an oil pump, which guarantees pre-lubrication of the chain. The engine has built-in overheating protection and a maximum power indicator.

It is possible to install an electromechanical saw unit on the sawmill, controlled from a remote control mounted at one end of the frame. In this case, the feed speed can be adjusted during sawing, the saw stops after each cut. After cutting, the electric feed moves the sawn board back, which increases productivity. Electromechanical feed can be installed on both gasoline and electric sawmills.

Tire mini sawmill, ShP series

Today it is difficult to imagine a modern private sector without chain sawmill. She happens to be an indispensable tool for many jobs, especially when it comes to repairs and construction. Therefore, its presence is completely justified.

But not all people have the opportunity to purchase such an instrument for money. After all, such a sawmill is not so cheap, and even to buy quality tool not easy. This prompted specialists and craftsmen to develop a simple technology by which you can make a chain sawmill with your own hands.

Preparing for work

Before you start working directly on the tool, you need to decide where you will place the sawmill. Best places for this purpose - a garage or workshop. After all, a sawmill is a rather heavy tool in terms of weight and size. Therefore, it is recommended to install it immediately where you intend to work.

Some people store sawmills in their yard. But this is not recommended for the reason that under open air The sawmill may deteriorate. Therefore, if you have nowhere to store it, then you need to take care of at least a minimal canopy.

When a location is chosen, make sure that the tools are available. It is best to choose metal for a sawmill good quality, on which there are no signs of corrosion, cracks or holes.

  • The level of reliability in the future will largely depend on this. So, you will need:
  • two steel channels 2 cm high and about 9 m long (the sizes may be different depending on your personal preferences and capabilities);
  • sections of metal water pipes;
  • powerful hammer drill;
  • metal corners;
  • thick bolts;
  • welding machine;
  • metal blanks for racks;;
  • a steel plate, the dimensions of which are slightly larger than the dimensions of the electric motor of the future sawmill, and the thickness is about 5 mm;
  • rubber gaskets;
  • steel plates;
  • a special chain, which is purchased separately (it is best to take a new chain, checking its quality at least visually).

When selecting basic metal blanks, also remember that they all must be perfectly smooth. If there are distortions in any places, the DIY chain sawmill will turn out to be of poor quality. And this, you see, will not make you happy at all.

Preparation of blanks

Now is the time to get to work. First, clear the area where the sawmill will be located from debris and extra items. It is important that this place is as level as possible. Therefore, if the surface is uneven, it is strongly recommended to level it.

Now take two main channels and drill identical holes with a hammer drill at the same distance from the edge along the length (about 1.5 m). Next, the same distance is measured from the holes along the entire length, markings are applied and drilling is carried out in the same way. As a result, you will have several holes. The main thing is equal distances between them and maintaining their parallelism on the channels relative to each other.

Now you need to count the total number of holes. And prepare pipe sections in the same quantity. The length of each tube is approximately ¾ of the length of the channel. But the thickness can vary from 2 to 2.5 cm. The connection to the channels is made using bolts, for which holes are drilled in advance with a hammer drill.

Manufacturing and fastening of racks

Next, you need to make stands on which the tool will rest. IN ideal you should get 4 identical thick racks, which are fastened to the channels using the same bolts or welding machine. If the expected length of the unit is large, you can use more racks for reliability. Here you have the right to decide for yourself.

But before fastening, you need to install the frame on the racks. Carefully ensure that the racks are at a distance of about 0.8-1 m from the edges of the bed. After this, you can safely connect the frame to the racks in the manner described above.

But, in order for the tool to be quite strong and reliable, it is necessary to perform lower fixation. For this purpose, wooden blocks are used, which are placed under the racks. Try to do everything straight at once so that the tool does not warp.
