Any specialist, having familiarized himself with the design of a plasterboard structure, wonders what materials will be required in the manufacture of its frame. Naturally, for a “knowledgeable” person solving this problem will not be difficult at all, but what should a beginner do? home handyman? We decided to help craftsmen who will be assembling a frame for the first time by examining in our article the types of profiles for drywall and its dimensions.

Let us note that the story only about the types of metal profiles for drywall, as about one structural element, in our opinion, will not bring much practical benefit. Reinforced – UA

Guide profile

This type of profile serves as a base - a guide on which the rack profile is attached. A guide profile should be used when the task is to organize wall frame or frame for interior partitions.

Rack profile

This is the main element in the manufacture of wall frames and interior partitions. The rack profile is fixed into a guide, which in turn must be fixed along the perimeter of the working area (in in this case− along the perimeter of the walls).

Ceiling guide profile

This type of profile has the same functions as a regular guide profile, however, this type of profile is designed specifically for the construction of ceiling frames and is attached exclusively to the ceiling.

This is another type of profiles used for ceiling works with drywall. The main difference between a ceiling profile and a rack profile is that it must be fixed to the ceiling with special fasteners (which fasteners are best to use and more - read below).

Corner profile (reinforced)

The name of this profile speaks for itself: it is designed to strengthen the corners of the structure after the completion of the main work on covering the frame with sheets of plasterboard.

Beacon profile

Used in plastering works by leveling the walls. Using the fixed beacon profiles, craftsmen are guided in the level of the walls for alignment.

IMPORTANT! Some types plasterboard structures do not involve the construction of a frame - sheets of plasterboard in such cases are mounted without profiles on glue.

Without a profile (without a frame), drywall can be attached in several cases: for example, when the overall weight of the structure is important and the weight that an aluminum frame will give is undesirable, or in the case when the curvature of the walls does not exceed a few millimeters and alignment is possible without a device frame partitions− also for glue (such as “Perlfix” and similar ones).

Additional fasteners

In addition to profiles, there is also a wide range of standard parts used in assembling the frame, as well as securing the base of the profiles to the walls and ceilings of the room.

Most often used in work:

  • straight hangers and hangers with an anchor clamp (used to secure the ceiling profile to the ceiling);
  • crab connector (used to create cross connections at a 90° angle in the frame, which are present in almost all designs);
  • connector and extension (these types of additional fasteners are used to connect to various combinations profile segments between each other).

From the parts described above, fastening them together with several types of screws and anchor dowels, the master will be able to assemble a structure for drywall of any complexity and shape.

Let's consider some types of profiles in more detail, as well as installation of a profile under drywall - methods of connecting elements.

CW 50 (rack, wall profile) is used for organizing vertical racks metal frames, intended for cladding and partitions made of plasterboard sheets. The profile is mounted only in pairs with a guide profile of the appropriate size. To select the CW 50 profile, the main criteria are the width and height of the partition.

CW 50 is used in plasterboard structures by mounting it in the UW50 profile. These mounted elements are a rack element.

How to attach a profile for plasterboard of this type to a frame: to attach a rack profile to a frame, use screws measuring 3.5 by 25 mm. The fastening grooves of the profile provide convenient connection of elements. This type of profile is suitable for covering structures with sheets of plasterboard on both sides.

СW-75. Production of profiles for plasterboard: this is a galvanized metal profile made by cold rolling - lightweight and at the same time durable profile. The profile thickness varies from 0.35 mm to 0.55 mm.

The profile shape is a straight base and two shelves (a part with sides of the same thickness). Thanks to the longitudinal grooves, it is easy to screw screws into the profile and the procedure for taking measurements is simplified.

CW-75 is used to create a frame for sheathing with plasterboard. The profile is most often used as a vertical stand.

How to connect elements: correctly fasten the profile with screws. It is mounted with a UW-75 profile of appropriate dimensions. The profile element is selected based on the thickness and height of the partition being created.

  • Size: 50x75 mm.

  • Length: 3 m, 4 m.

CW-100. Application: this is one of the main elements when installing metal pillar structures. It is used in conjunction with a UW guide profile of similar dimensions.

The CW-100 profile is often used for installation of plasterboard partitions.

Profile production - galvanized cold-rolled metal. The strength of the entire structure largely depends on the thickness of this profile (average profile thickness is 0.35-0.55 mm). Profile CW-100 is a C-shaped part. The width of each side of the profile is 100 mm.

  • Profile size: 50x100 mm
  • Thickness: 0.42mm
  • Length: 3m, 4m

UD-27. This profile is used to guide the CD profile (CD-60) when installing mounted or multi-level ceilings, and a frame for covering walls with plasterboard.

The width of the CD-60 base is 60 mm.

UD-27 is fixed around the perimeter of the workroom. When covering walls, the profile is attached to the ceiling or floor in order to give the structure additional rigidity. The UD-27 profile is attached to the guides with special dowels: for this fastening, the profile has corresponding holes with a diameter of 8 mm, located at a distance of 250 mm.

UW-50. Element used as a guide profile for rack profiles CW-50. It is used when installing false walls, door frames, and various partitions.

The UW-50 is attached to the CW-50 using dowels.

In addition, there are many other profiles, including, say, the curved arched PA profile, which serves as the basis for any curved plasterboard structures. The PA profile is made from PP 60/27 profile with a bending radius of at least 500 mm. Even though the profile has a bend, it is not flexible.

To enhance your capabilities suspension system use the T-15 Albes profile. The profile is used for mounting cassettes of formats 300X600 mm, 300X1 200 mm, 600X800 mm, etc. Installation of plasterboard ceilings when using this profile can not be carried out according to templates.

  • profile cutter - a tool necessary for piercing holes in frame parts, since it is impossible to assemble a frame without fastening the profiles;

Basically, drywall is attached to the profile using self-tapping screws (screws with a round head).

  • How to bend a metal profile?

No special instructions are needed here. To bend the profile when assembling the figured frame, it is cut along the end side in increments of 5 cm.

Greetings, comrades! Today we have to find out what types of drywall profiles there are, for what purposes they can be used and how they are installed. In addition, we will analyze a couple basic designs, which are the basis of almost all types interior decoration premises using gypsum boards.

Why profile

As you know, for the installation of frames and lathing under gypsum boards, not only galvanized profiles are used, but also. Which material is better?

The answer is quite clear: profile. Arguments are at your service:

  • Galvanized steel lasts indefinitely, regardless of atmospheric humidity. Of all negative impacts steel profile it is only afraid of corrosion, from which it is reliably protected by a layer of zinc coating;

  • Galvanization is not afraid of insect attacks, which in just 10-15 years are quite capable of destroying or rendering a wooden frame unusable;

Functionality

How do the types of profiles for drywall and their application compare? To answer this question, just re-read the titles.

  • Rack-mounted used for mounting vertical posts when assembling wall frames and. It can also be used as jumpers between posts, reinforcing the rigidity of the frame;

If the ears are not long enough, two direct suspensions can be connected in series, thereby increasing the maximum distance from the capital structure to the cladding.

What are the profile sizes?

First, let's get acquainted with the standard sections of the main varieties:

  • All ceiling profiles for plasterboard have same size walls - 60 and 27 millimeters;

  • Ceiling guides are compatible with them - 27 and 28 mm, respectively;

  • Rack-mount ones have side walls 50 mm high, but the width (bottom wall) can be 50, 75 or 100 mm;

The wider the post, the greater its rigidity with respect to bending load.

  • The height of the side walls of the UW guides is 40 millimeters, the width of the guide corresponds to the width of the racks - 50, 75 or 100 mm.

With length, everything is somewhat more complicated. Theoretically, according to the manufacturers, all varieties are produced with a length from 2.5 to 6 meters inclusive.

In practice, the range of products in stores is much smaller:

  • For guides and ceiling guide profiles, the standard length is 3 meters;
  • For rack and ceiling - 3 and 4 meters.

If maximum length ceiling profile is insufficient for your purposes (that is, less than the length of the room or the height of the wall that is supposed to be leveled), so-called straight connectors are used to join products of shorter length. In addition to them, you can find cross connectors called “crabs” on sale.

How much do galvanized sheathing and frame elements cost? I will give current prices (November 2016) for the Leroy Merlin chain of stores.

The actual cost depends not only on the cross-section and length of the profile, but also on the thickness of the metal from which it is made. Galvanized products with a thickness of 0.55 - 0.6 mm are designated in the company’s price list with the words “premium” or “strong” and cost the buyer approximately one and a half times more expensive than “economy” class profiles (0.4 mm).

Installation

So, we have studied the classification of profiles and their purpose. It's time to move from theory to practice.

General rules

Here are a number of installation rules common to all types of frames and battens:

  • Can be used for cutting galvanized steel only metal scissors. Abrasive cutting with a grinder on metal is extremely undesirable. The fact is that heating the cutting area leads to burnout of the anti-corrosion zinc coating, and the edge of the frame element remains defenseless against rust;

  • Tracks, guide ceiling profiles and hangers are attached to brick, stone and concrete surfaces dowel-screws. The size of the fastener depends on the strength of the surface: for heavy concrete a size of 40x4 mm is sufficient, and for loose aerated concrete or shell rock it is better to increase it to 80x8;
  • When attaching the guides, the wall, ceiling or floor is drilled with a hammer drill directly through the profile pressed against them. Then a dowel-screw is inserted into the drilled hole and tightened with a screwdriver. This fastening scheme will save you from the problem of matching holes in the profile and the capital structure;

  • The step between the mounting points of the guides should be about half a meter;
  • Suspensions along the profile on the ceiling are attached in increments of 60 cm, and on the wall, where the suspension experiences a minimum load - 80;
  • It is strictly forbidden to use wooden choppers to attach guides in wet rooms. In an atmosphere with periodic fluctuations in humidity, they quickly dry out and fall out of the holes;
  • To connect the profiles to each other or with hangers, use metal screws 9 mm long. Self-tapping screws can only be screwed in with a screwdriver: it is almost impossible to connect two profiles with your own hands using a screwdriver;

  • The standard step between posts or sheathing elements is 60 centimeters: this is exactly half the width of a sheet of drywall. The pitch is measured not between the edges, but between the axes of the frame elements. In this case, the seam between adjacent sheets will fall exactly in the middle of the profile;

  • If the structure will experience significant loads during operation (for example, when it comes to a wall in narrow hallway), the step between the profiles can be reduced to 40 or even 30 cm. The main thing is that the width of the plasterboard remains a multiple of this step;

Strengthening the partition frame can be achieved without increasing the thickness or reducing the pitch of the racks - by inserting a 50x50 block into each of them or by connecting the racks in pairs (putting one CW into the other or simply securing them next to each other).

  • For sound insulation, damper tape is placed under the guides. It dampens acoustic vibrations, preventing their transmission from the plasterboard to the permanent structures of the building;
  • Door and window blocks(including metal-plastic) are attached to the side profiles and horizontal jumpers with self-tapping screws 16 - 32 mm long (depending on the thickness of the box), screwed through the profile. To seal and strengthen the connection, you should first apply a strip of polyurethane foam to the outer surface of the block.

How to install profiles under plasterboard when assembling a single-level suspended ceiling?

Step-by-step instructions are at your service:

  1. Having marked horizontal line ceiling, attach the UD guide along it. You can safely use additional sections of any length, the main thing is that the guide is securely fastened at the junction with the ceiling CD;
  2. Mark the lines along which the ceiling profiles will be mounted, and fasten the hangers along these lines;
  3. Trim (or join) the ceiling CDs to length and insert them into the guides;
  4. Having aligned each CD according to the long rule, pull the hangers to its side walls;
  5. Bend the ears of the hangers towards the ceiling.

If you are assembling the sheathing to level the wall, all steps are completely identical to those described above, adjusted for the vertical orientation of the frame.

Partition

How to assemble a partition frame?

In general, this is done like this:

  1. Using a plumb line, mark the axis of the partition on the ceiling, floor and adjacent walls;
  2. Secure guides along this line;
  3. Mark the position of the racks on the ceiling and floor, using the same plumb line;

The markings should remain visible even after covering the frame with plasterboard. It will help you secure the sheets to the racks hidden by the sheathing.

  1. Cut the posts to length and align them according to the marks;
  2. Secure each post to the rails on both sides.

A special case is the assembly of a noise-insulating partition. In this case, we need to decouple the wall cladding on both sides acoustically. The goal is achieved by assembling two independent frames at a small (within a centimeter) distance from each other.
