HOW WE TESTED

To test these drugs, we purchased locking elements from VAZ classics. The locks were fixed in special cassettes, degreased and placed in a climate chamber with a temperature of –15°C. After several hours of exposure in the chamber, 2 ml of water was injected into the cylinder of each lock, then the locks were again placed back in the cold. After a few minutes, the water turned into ice, but we started testing only after 30 minutes of freezing the samples.

Each sample was treated with a defrost agent, and the criterion for the effectiveness of the drug was the time during which the lock restored its functionality.

The test results both pleased and puzzled us: with an average defrosting time of 2.5 minutes, the difference between the best and worst preparation was only a few seconds! Moreover, when the procedure was repeated, leaders and outsiders replaced each other with enviable frequency. The thing is that with this testing method it was impossible to achieve absolutely identical conditions for each drug.

Therefore, on the advice of the manufacturers, we developed an experimental setup, which was a vertical plate, perpendicular to the surface of which a metal sample of square cross-section was frozen. The joint between the sample and the vertical plate was treated with each composition, and the time during which the defroster melted the ice was measured, and the sample was disconnected from the plate under the influence of gravity.

CONSUMER ANALYSIS To be honest, just before testing the composition of QUALCO LOCK LUBRICATOR, we did not know what to prepare for: the inscription on the sticker and packaging states that this drug is a lubricant for locks with a defrosting additive (in this case, the result would have to wait a long time), and an inscription under the sticker on the cylinder that this is a QUALCO LOCK DE-ICER lock defrost (in this case you could count on quick defrosting). But the result was unexpected - it took 18 minutes to defrost, which is, in principle, worse than its counterpart, but for a non-specialized product this result is simply excellent. SUMMARY ADVANTAGES: good defrosting abilities. FLAWS: OVERALL RATING: The composition of QUALCO LOCK LUBRICATOR will not only help to quickly defrost the lock, but will also lubricate it.

FLAWS: poor design of the sealing cap, poor defrosting ability. OVERALL RATING: SPECTROL WINTER will be most effective if you treat locks with it in advance, thus protecting them from icing.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS MANUFACTURER: CJSC "Elf Feeling", Russia. PURPOSE: lock defroster. PROPERTIES: defrosts lock mechanisms, does not wash away lubricant, prevents further icing, and prevents the formation of corrosion. Suitable for defrosting household locks of any modification. PECULIARITIES: the cylinder is very large, and its place is definitely in the trunk of a car, because the product simply will not fit in a clothing pocket - and this is a big minus (what is the use of a defroster that lies inside a car with frozen locks). The second disadvantage is that the sprayer does not have an extension spout, so it will be very difficult to get into the lock cylinder. The situation is aggravated by a very powerful jet gushing from the sprayer, so if you want to defrost the door lock, prepare a rag to remove drips. CONSUMER ANALYSIS The first thing that attracted attention when the JET GO WINSHIELD SPRAY DE-ICER came to us for testing was the inscription on the packaging: CAUTION, POISON! It turned out that the product contains methanol - a strong poison, even a small concentration of which is enough to cause irreparable harm to human health, and exceeding a certain concentration for the body can be fatal! Therefore, we strongly do not recommend using this remedy, especially for defrosting glass, because, flowing from the windshield, the drug enters the heater air intake, and from there into the car interior. Needless to say, the desire to test this drug has sharply decreased, but nevertheless we conducted tests of this drug, and there it showed top scores— the composition defrosted the sample in 3 minutes (not surprising, since methanol is very aggressive to ice), but are you ready to pay for high efficiency with your health? We are not. SUMMARY ADVANTAGES: high efficiency. FLAWS: uncomfortable balloon, lack of extension spout, toxic contents of the balloon. OVERALL RATING: JET GO WINSHIELD SPRAY DE-ICER has good defrosting ability, but this is achieved thanks to components hazardous to human health.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS MANUFACTURER: ITW PERFOMANCE POLYMERS, USA. PURPOSE: lock defroster. PROPERTIES: defrosts locks. PACKAGE: 20 ml. PECULIARITIES: the cylinder has optimal sizes: it is not bulky and at the same time will not get lost in your pocket, and the volume of the product should last for a long time. Looking at how the sprayer is made, you want to buy this product without even checking its defrosting capabilities (looking ahead, we can say that they are already more than sufficient). The spray nozzle is made quite long and thin, with a good stop pad, and in addition there are two holes at the end of the nozzle, so the spray pattern width can reach more than 110 degrees! Thus, the effectiveness of the drug increases, because the composition covers a larger area. CONSUMER ANALYSIS The defrosting time of the sample treated with QUALCO LOCK DE-ICER was just over 6 minutes - an excellent result, this drug is the clear leader in our testing (JET GO WINSHIELD SPRAY DE-ICER was disqualified for the use of prohibited drugs). I was also impressed by the good moisture-displacing properties of the composition. SUMMARY ADVANTAGES: well thought out design, high defrosting ability. FLAWS: There are no instructions in Russian. OVERALL RATING: QUALCO LOCK DE-ICER design, properties - everything is done perfectly.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS MANUFACTURER:"POL-EXPO", Poland. PURPOSE: lock defroster. PROPERTIES: defrosts locks. PACKAGE: 50 ml. PECULIARITIES: I didn’t like the shape of the cylinder a little: it small height, but it was heard in breadth. Therefore, despite its small dimensions, you can still feel it in your clothing pocket. The spout of the drug is conical and quite short; the lock body is used as a stop. There are no instructions in Russian. CONSUMER ANALYSIS The defrosting time of the test sample with the EUROCOLOR composition is 50 minutes, not the most outstanding result, especially since the price is quite high for of this type drugs. SUMMARY ADVANTAGES: a significant amount of product, and at the same time you can easily carry it in your pocket. FLAWS: defrosting ability is below average, there are no instructions in Russian. OVERALL RATING: enough high price EUROCOLOR has not been proven to perform in any way.

CONSUMER ANALYSIS Availability silicone grease as part of the drug ASTROCHEM reduced its defrosting abilities: the test sample defrosted in 43 minutes. FLAWS: thick spout, not outstanding defrosting ability. OVERALL RATING: with a nose like AGAT AUTO’s, you won’t fit into every crack, and if you do, be prepared to wait until it defrosts.

CONSUMER ANALYSIS CONSOL copes well with ice; the test sample defrosted in 17 minutes, which in itself is a very good result, although this is not surprising, because this defroster does not contain lubricants that negatively affect the speed of ice removal. SUMMARY: ADVANTAGES: high efficiency. FLAWS: acrid smell, lack of a tube on the sample we tested, large size of the cylinder - it won’t fit in your pocket. OVERALL RATING: CONSOL works well against ice, but with such a sprayer it is very difficult to get inside the lock.
