We had legs from sewing machine SINGER, for now we have adapted them as a bed for a hand-held circular saw, but in the future we want to make a decorative table, and as an option, use glass as a tabletop. We have glass - it's Stalinite from some kind of truck (booth window).

Who cares about circular saw, you can read it. And we will go further and look at what options for tables you can make with your own hands and how they fit into the interior

This is what the sewing machine itself looks like. We had exactly this one, but I don’t remember where the machine itself went - maybe it’s lying somewhere

Here is a table with a glass top. Legs are painted White color, to match the interior color.

In the photo below the legs are not from a SINGER machine, but the principle is the same. They are painted bronze. Also with glass top

We have glass like this with rounded corners

And here both the table and the chair are made from Singer legs. In another photo there is a gold table.

Table for a garden or gazebo. Agree, it’s always nice to sit on wooden furniture, at a table made with your own hands, and even on fresh air, enjoying a conversation and a cup of green tea, or something stronger.

And here is a combination of a log house made of rounded logs and a mini table with one leg)

And finally - computer talk. If you also put a generator on the paw, you can generate electricity and train muscles - this is for those who sit for a long time at the computer and move little)))

This is just a small part of what is possible

The metal patterned legs of the machine can be processed ideally - sandblaster, sandpaper or special solutions (if there is rust), then paint in desired color or varnish

Many people remember the reliable Singer sewing machine. At one time, the German miracle of technology was the pride of any home craftswoman.

Having ceased to perform its main functions, the structure will only get in the way and take up space. Of course, you can throw it away right away, or you can show a little ingenuity and make an elegant Coffee table from a Singer sewing machine with your own hands.

Required Tools

  1. Wire brush. We choose the option with hard, large bristles. The brush is useful for the initial cleaning of the surface from accumulated grease and machine oil.
  2. Cleaning agent. Will be needed to process and dissolve contaminants. Any solvent can be used. It is best to use a spray bottle, as it allows you to evenly distribute the liquid over a large area.
  3. Grinder without nozzle. The tool is powerful enough to remove old layer paints.
  4. Matte paint for a cast iron bed from a sewing machine. It is most convenient to use an aerosol can, but regular can paint will work.
  5. Decorative impregnation for wood. Applied to the countertop for better preservation and additional protection.
  6. Screwdriver. Designed for quick tightening of self-tapping screws. You can get by with a screwdriver, but an electric tool will significantly speed up the process.
  7. Self-tapping screws 4.2 x 19 millimeters. You can choose a gold-plated version and use it as decoration.
  8. Wide brush. Paint brush with soft bristles will help to evenly distribute the impregnation over the surface of the countertop.

Necessary materials

  1. To make a coffee table from a Zinger machine, you only need a cast iron frame and a table top.
  2. The size of the lid is chosen arbitrarily; in our instructions it will be 1000 by 600 millimeters and 22 millimeters thick.

Assembly

  1. Separate top panel from the legs of the sewing machine table. Usually it is attached to four bolts; to disconnect it, simply unscrew them.
  2. After this, we begin primary processing. Apply cleaner to the beds. Carefully saturate the folds and corners; dust and machine oil most often accumulate in them. The main task of this procedure is to degrease the surface and get rid of persistent pollution. We will carefully go over it with a brush with metal bristles and, if necessary, apply another layer of solvent.
  3. Having finished with preliminary cleaning, we will deal with the old paint. You need to get rid of it using a grinder with a special attachment. Let's go through all the curls and corners of the legs, ideally old paint there shouldn't be any left at all.
  4. Degrease the cleaned metal and apply a new coat of paint. Distribute the layer evenly over the entire surface; it is most convenient to use an aerosol can for this. In some cases, re-application may be necessary, make sure the paint adheres well and move on to the countertop.
  5. After production, we cover the tabletop with decorative impregnation. Usually a wide brush is used for this. Impregnation protects wood from rotting and external damage. Saturate the surface thoroughly, applying two to four coats.
  6. After drying the wood, we proceed to fixing it on the frames.

Place the lid on the floor and place cast iron legs on top. We find the mounting holes; they are located in the corners of the frames. Using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we connect the cover to the frames. This completes the main assembly process.

Labor and cost

Processing the beds takes the most time. You may be required to work hard for several hours. Everything will depend on their initial condition.

It took me about two hours to clean the surface of oil, old paint, degrease again and apply a new layer. If the cast iron is heavily rusted, it may take much longer.

Assembling the tabletop and securing it will take about an hour. You will have to wait the longest for it to dry. decorative impregnation, this usually takes up to twelve hours.

A bottle of solvent will cost about 100 rubles per 500 ml. Paint – 600 rubles and more, depending on the manufacturer. Tabletop from 300 rubles. The total cost will not exceed 1500 rubles.

Other ideas

There are many options for bringing an old thing back to life, so if you use your imagination, you can find practical and stylish solutions For home interior or garden.

I remember when I was a child, my grandmother had a special table in her house - a Singer sewing machine. It was wooden on top, and a sewing machine was folded upside down under the tabletop, plus two openwork legs made of cast iron, a wheel on the side and a wide pedal at the bottom... I first learned to sew on just such a machine. It was later that electric units appeared - more compact and modern, and, alas, no one needed such tables.

However, do not rush to throw such a rarity into the trash. A little time and imagination - and old table from under a sewing machine can be transformed into quite unusual interior items. Here are a few for you interesting ideas for inspiration.

1. The simplest thing that can come out of the cast iron base of an old sewing machine is an excellent dinner table. The heavy ornate frame will support even a fairly wide tabletop. It's great to gather the whole family at one table and remember what happened before...

2. A modern table for a computer or laptop is also a completely worthy metamorphosis for such a table. The so-called eclecticism. If you use glass table top- then such a table will fit even into a high-tech interior.

3. Just a few touches - and it turned out to be a very good desk for creative people.

4. Perhaps the most elegant idea is a dressing table. The hinged lid can accommodate a mirror, and drawers store cosmetics and small items.

5. A washbasin made from an old sewing machine in the bathroom or in the country house? Incredible idea! But it is very original.

6. Replacing the countertop instantly changes the shape of an old heirloom. This coffee table It’s simply unrecognizable in the living room!

7. Look how good these openwork legs from a Singer machine look in vintage or shabby chic interiors. I would love to turn my grandmother's old table into a console for a vase of flowers. You just need to replace the countertop and repaint the cast iron legs.
