Oil mist trap for use on rotary vane vacuum pumps c oil seal to prevent oil vapor from entering the pump exhaust into the surrounding area. Also, the oil mist trap plays the role of a muffler when operating the pump at high pressures.

High pressures are considered to be in the range of 13-1300 Pa and above.

The trap is installed on the exhaust port of the vacuum pump. Depending on the pump model, the trap is installed by screwing into the exhaust port or through a flange adapter KF-25.

When operating a pump with an oil mist trap installed, pay attention to Special attention degree of contamination of the filter element. If the filter element of the trap becomes dirty, this will limit the free flow of pumped gases to the exhaust, and as a result, the pressure inside the pump will increase. Excessive pressure can cause pump failure and/or destruction of the pump or its parts: for example, the inspection window may burst or the oil shaft seal may collapse due to pressure from inside the pump. Maximum pressure inside the pump should not exceed 0.03 MPa (g). When the threshold pressure is exceeded, the installation spring fixing the filter element inside the trap will be compressed. Thus, exhaust gases from overpressure can penetrate inside the trap body, bypassing the filter element. As a result, oil vapors will condense inside the housing and penetrate into environment through the trap exhaust port.

An indirect sign of the need to change (check) the filter element is a drop in the oil level in the pump during operation.

The frequency of replacing filter elements depends on operating conditions and features technological process. It is recommended to replace the filter elements at least once a year or more often, depending on the conditions of use.

Depending on the requirements for filtration purity and the characteristics of the pumping process, filter elements can be used P.E. 302 with varying degrees of filtration 0.1; 0.3; 1.0; 5.0; 25 and 40 microns.

If during operation difficulties arise due to the need to frequently change filter elements, consult a service center. Perhaps your operating conditions pumping equipment, for example, long-term operation on high blood pressure or high temperatures, require the use of traps of a different design and operating principle

Procedure for replacing the filter element

The filter must be replaced with the pump turned off. The surface of the pump and filter may be hot during operation. Please use caution.

1) Loosen the yoke connection on the trap body by unscrewing the wing nut on the clamp.

2) Remove the top of the trap body.

3) Remove the retaining spring.

4) Remove the used filter element.

5) Wipe if necessary internal elements traps using rags. Do not allow foreign objects to get inside the pump. If the trap is heavily soiled, clean the housing and change the filter element by completely disconnecting the trap from the pump.

6) Install a new filter element 1 into the lower part of the trap. The support flange of the filter element with oil gasket 2 is installed downwards.

7) Insert the retaining spring.

8) Insert O-ring 3 onto the flange of the trap body.

9) Install the upper body of the trap, aligning the mating flanges of the trap. When installing the upper part of the housing, the spring will be clamped between the housing chevron and the filter element support flange, ensuring tight pressure in the center of the trap.

10) Install the yoke clamp and tighten the flange connection securely with the wing nut.

11) Connect the trap to the pump.

Vacuum traps for the outlet port of rotary vane vacuum pumps

When a vacuum rotary vane pump operates, vapors of vacuum oil emerge from the outlet flange of the vacuum pump, which is used to create a seal between the blades and the working chamber of the vacuum pump. This effect is especially noticeable in the range from 1 atm to 0.01 atm, when the amount of air entering the working chamber of the vacuum pump is quite large, due to which the air passing through the pump captures a sufficiently large amount of vacuum oil vapor, which is always present in the volume of the working chamber of the vacuum pump . going out to in this case Vacuum oil vapor is often called oil mist. Despite the fact that the pump outlet port is usually connected to the outlet line, which removes the pumped gas outside, it is recommended to install an oil vapor trap (oil vapor trap, oil mist trap) on the pump outlet port.
The trap is installed on the pump outlet port. It is designed to capture oil mist vapors. Each trap includes a clamp and a centering ring of the appropriate size.
It is recommended to regularly replace the replacement element, which can be purchased separately. The service life of the filter element greatly depends on operating conditions.

We offer a large selection of vacuum traps and oil absorbers to protect your pumps and entire vacuum system from damage caused by water, solvent, oil vapor, particles, reactive substances or capacitors. For each application we will offer you the optimal solution.

The choice of vacuum trap is determined environment where selective pumping is carried out, the connecting elements of the entire systems, and design traps.

Wednesday
Once the media to be filtered has been determined, the appropriate type of trap and filter element must be selected. The trap effectively protects the vacuum system from backflow of mechanical pumping in the chamber, reduces the amount of volatile products released during the process, or protects pumps from particles from the vacuum system. Thanks to the vacuum trap, it is possible to filter gases during the process, as well as prevent the formation of water vapor and condensates as a result of the process. The LN 2 cooled trap can also be used as a cryopump.

Connection method
The method of attaching the trap depends on the properties of the vacuum system in which the trap is to be built. The choice of connecting element depends on the prevailing pressure in the system.

Design
The design of the trap is determined mainly by the vacuum system into which the trap is built. The connections can be moved axially to each other or rotated by 90°. The volume of the trap must be selected depending on the gas present in the system. The volume of the trap is determined by the amount of filtered gas. Due to the large volume of the trap, there is no need for frequent maintenance.

Adsorption traps

The KF adsorption trap prevents the backflow of oil or water vapor from the foreline system into the chamber. Zeolite, commonly used as an adsorption agent, is generated using a built-in heater.

LN 2 - Cooled traps

LN 2 -cooled traps are made from of stainless steel. They are mainly used in high and ultra-high vacuum systems and serve for the targeted condensation of water, solvent vapors and oil on cooled surfaces whose boiling point exceeds 77 K (eg CO 2). Therefore they are also used as cryogenic pumping agents.

The traps are equipped with KF or ISO flanges for further installation and release of condensate.

Depending on the application, we offer you traps with two or three outlets in two different models.

KF-Adsorption traps

KF-Adsorption traps are usually used after mechanical pre-pumping and before collection. They prevent the backflow of water and oil vapors into the chamber. Typically, traps are filled with zeolite, which binds particles on its surface.

Using a built-in heater, zeolite is generated repeatedly at 300 °C.

Single stage vacuum traps

The VISI-TRAP adsorption trap consists of a transparent plastic housing with a foreign particle filter to protect the pump from corrosion or vacuum from the flow of oil vapors from the pump.

You can choose between two filter sizes (4.5" or 9.5"), as well as a variety of filter elements and adapters for individual use. We stock filter elements for water, oil or corrosive chemicals that can be replaced without opening the vacuum system.

POSI-TRAP

The body of the POSI-TRAP trap in two sizes is made of stainless steel. Both models can be ordered with 180° flanges with a weld hole or a 90° option.

POSI-TRAP filter elements are sealed at the inlet and outlet for complete gas filtration. We provide you with a large selection of filters for various applications. Filter elements for POSI-TRAP vacuum traps are included in the kit.

Multi-stage vacuum traps

The multi-stage, high-power vacuum trap MULTI-TRAP protects oil and oil-free (dry) pumps from reactive processes (e.g. TEOS, NITRIDE, HTO, PLASMA). It filters out corrosive fumes and process particles that could contaminate the trap. This extends the service life and reduces the likelihood of failure. The three-stage design provides almost complete filtration.

The first stage filters large heavy particles and suspensions, as well as liquids on the surface of the housing.

Second and third foam filter elements filter reactive chemicals and, thanks to a wide selection of filter elements, can be used in a wide variety of applications.

Composition of filters for vacuum traps

Filter elements (suitable for all traps)

The filter elements are equipped with stainless steel covers and Buna-N seals, which ensures long service life and durability of the trap. Huge selection filter elements and configuration options expands the range of possible applications. At the customer's request, we supply filters for special applications.
The filter elements are replaceable and are available in two sizes and different materials.

Zeolite filler for adsorption traps

After repeated regeneration of zeolite in adsorption traps, replacement of the filler is required to ensure consistent filtration results and increase the service life of your pump.
