If you want to add bright details to the nursery interior, decorate the crib, or simply please your baby with a new friend, sew decorative pillows-toys. The process of creating them is not at all complicated, but detailed master classes from this article, even a novice mother-handicrafter can handle sewing a soft miracle.

Today, many craftswomen have already become interested in sewing pillows in the shape of funny animals or other objects. They are not difficult to make, and you can get a lot of joy from the manufacturing process. The products are bright, aesthetic, and functional.

    • To prevent the interior from looking monotonous, combine pillows different shapes, colors, take fabrics of different textures. Pillows can be in harmony with the color of curtains, wallpaper, and textiles. Or, conversely, they can become bright accents in a too “quiet” room;
    • choose pillows according to the style of the children's room. IN modern interior will look good bright colors, pillows in the form of cartoon or book characters. For classic style It’s better to stick to pastel-colored pillows in the shape of classic bears, stars, hearts, etc.;
  • Use mainly natural fabrics for sewing toy pillows. Cotton or linen look great, wash well and are not harmful to babies;
  • Before sewing a pillow, it is better to wash the fabric (or simply moisten it with water) and iron it. In this case, the finished pillow will no longer shrink when washed.
  • Use synthetic fluff or holofiber as a filler. These materials are practical, hold their shape well, and are hypoallergenic. They can be machine washed on a delicate cycle.

Main qualities of a toy pillow

In order for a toy to bring not only joy, but also benefit, it must be:

  • comfortable;
  • beautiful;
  • environmentally friendly;
  • easy to care for.

What pillow toys will your baby like?

Sewing a pillow is a very exciting activity. Several directions of the “pillow world” can be distinguished:

  • cat pillows. Perhaps the most common today. On the Internet you can easily find patterns for toy pillows in the shape of cats. Cats can be all colors of the rainbow, with different character, various shapes. But as soon as you look at any of them, a smile immediately appears on your face.

  • owl pillows. Another mega-popular look. Toy owls are very bright compared to real birds. Owl pillows have won the love of both kids and adults who are serious lovers of creativity;
  • letter pillows. They became popular not so long ago, but have already managed to win a lot of attention. Most often, either the first letter of the child’s name is chosen, or the entire name is sewn. Letter pillows can be decorated with various decorative elements or make appliqués;

  • elephant pillows. Under the guidance of craftswomen, gray elephants turn into bright, colorful, positive animals. They can become both small pillows and full-fledged pillows, on which even an adult will be comfortable to take a nap;
  • bolster pillows in the form of funny animals. These pillows are, without a doubt, not only decorative, but also functional. You can sew them using almost the same pattern, adding and modifying only details and colors. By the way, quite recently the idea of placing bolster pillows under the door, thereby protecting the baby from drafts, has become popular. Great idea instead of an old folded blanket, isn't it?
  • travel pillow toys . Everyone is familiar with bolsters that can be placed under your head on an airplane or car. Try to sew one yourself in the shape of a funny animal, and your trip will become even more exciting, and the children will no longer be bored on the road. After all, in between rests you can also play with such soft animals.

Now that you know the basic principles, you can try to put your knowledge into practice and try to sew children's pillows yourself.

Cat toy pillow

We will need:

  • four types of cotton fabric (one larger piece for the body and legs, and three small pieces for the tummy, paws and ears);
  • fleece (can also be replaced with thick cotton) for reverse side our pillow;
  • interlining as a sealant for the front cotton side;
  • sewing needle and thread;
  • scissors (preferably zig-zag, but you can get by with regular ones);
  • filler for toys;
  • buttons for attaching the paws;
  • floss threads for embroidering the face;
  • a disappearing marker or other pencil on the fabric to make markings for embroidering the face.

Description of work:

  • Prepare all materials and print the pattern.
  • Using a disappearing marker, trace the pattern onto the fabric. Cut out the pieces. Don't forget to leave 1-1.5 cm of fabric for allowances. You should get 2 large pieces (from different pieces of fabric), 4 pieces each for arms, legs and ears, 2 pieces for a tail.
  • Sew a heart applique to the front of the body.
  • Place the part for the front side of the body with the wrong side on the interlining (on an adhesive base), secure with pins and carefully cut along the contour. Do the same with the back of the pillow.
  • Now take cotton and interlining for the body, connect it so that the back of the fabric lies on the adhesive backing of the interlining, and iron thoroughly. Iron until the pieces stick together well.
  • Next, we work in turn with each pair of parts. Folding them front side inside, secure with pins. Sew by machine or make an even seam by hand.
  • To prevent the fabric from shrinking, cut each piece along the contour with zig-zag scissors or make cuts using regular scissors.
  • After all the parts of our future cat are stitched, we turn them right side out and stuff them with stuffing. We stuff it tightly, but not too tightly, so that the fabric does not bulge or bunch up.
  • Now we connect the two parts of the body to each other. We fold them with their right sides facing each other, make an even stitch, and leave a small hole at the bottom for the filler.
  • We fill the cat’s body with holofiber, distributing it evenly throughout the entire volume.
  • Sew up the hole with a blind stitch.
  • Next we take the buttons and front legs and sew them to the body.
  • Embroider the muzzle ( step by step process look at the photo).

We hug our new friend and sit him down on the sofa!

It is generally easy to sew and rarely requires exotic materials. That's why it's waiting for you amazing trip into the world of pillow dreams

Step-by-step master - classes and patterns or how to sew a pillow with your own hands

A lot of master classes are waiting for you now. Let's start with children's pillows.

Pillows - toys for adults and children

Soft plush friends are always appreciated by children. What if we made them a little more practical, but no less original? In this section you will see a lot of children's pillows in the form of toys and simply unusual and bright designs for a great rest for your baby.

Children's pillow - toy “Rosalina”

With this shy beauty children's sleep will always be a joy. To sew a soft blanket for your child, you will need:

  • velsoft (for the base of Rosalina, you can take faux fur and fleece);
  • thin felt (for decorating the muzzle);
  • threads in the color of the fabric + black;
  • lace of 2 colors (for decoration);
  • small rose (for the central part of the bow);
  • padding polyester (for stuffing);
  • dry pastel (to give a delicate blush);
  • cotton pad (optional);
  • chalk or pencil (for transferring patterns onto fabric);
  • needle;
  • pins (for chopping parts);
  • scissors.

Here are the patterns for Rosalina (click to enlarge):

Cut them out carefully, velsoft is a capricious fabric. We start with the ears. Sew them like below. Turn the ears out and stuff them with padding polyester.

Place the ears inside the head. Pin along the edge, baste and sew, leaving an opening at the bottom.

Turn your head inside out along with your ears. I got it like this:

Stuff Rosalina with padding polyester and sew up the bottom hole with a hidden seam.

Now we have to make Rosaline's face. To do this, take all the details of the face, pin them to the head (so as not to move), and then sew them with a small hidden seam.

To apply blush, just take a pastel chalk and rub the bunny’s cheeks, rub it with your finger. If the pile on the fabric is not very long, you can do this using a cotton pad, after first applying pastel to it.

Rosalina definitely needs to make a cute headband! To do this, cut the lace to such a length that it is slightly longer distance between the ears.

Sew the ends of this piece to the ears, as if stretching it.

Now let's make a bow! To do this, take another piece of lace, fold it in half and sew the ends together.

Now simply sew a line of running stitches down the center of the bow. And pull it off.

Quadrocat

Necessary materials

What will we need for a pillow - a Quadrocat toy?

Here is the list:

  • fleece in 2 colors (for the muzzle and head);
  • felt (for the eyes and nose);
  • threads in the color of the fabric;
  • padding polyester or padding polyester (for stuffing);
  • white acrylic paint for the pupil (or rhinestones)
  • a glass of water (if you use paint);
  • second glue (if you chose rhinestones);
  • pencil or chalk for transferring patterns onto fabric;
  • stitching needle;
  • paper for transferring patterns onto fabric;
  • scissors.

Before you start sewing, you will need the patterns that I have prepared for you (click):

First of all, I want to say: this is only a quarter of the pattern (for the head and muzzle), for the nose it is half. For felt parts, allowances are not needed. For everyone else, half a centimeter should be enough.

First of all, cut out and sew the ears together. Trim off excess seam allowances. Turn out the ears.

You can put the ears aside for now, take the muzzle and head. Sew the muzzle into the head as shown below.

To avoid confusion, you can make small notes in the same places on the muzzle and border.

This is what the cat's face looks like:

Now place the ears inside the Quadrocat where you like and sew them in. Also sew around the edge of the cat, leaving a small hole at the bottom.

Turn the pillow inside out. So far Quadrocat looks like this:

And now you need to stuff the pillow with padding polyester as tightly as possible, since fleece is very sensitive to stretching and can simply turn out “orange peel” if the stuffing is not dense enough

Sew the bottom hole with a hidden seam. Below you can see the hole that is already completely sewn up.

Our cat is still without a face! Let's fix this. Take the eyes and nose and place them where you would like to see the muzzle.

We will sew on the eyes and nose. To do this, bring the thread out as below and sew with a buttonhole stitch, but VERY fine. That is, there should be no distance between the stitches at all.

This process is quite painstaking, but it’s worth it! Final photo:

DIY letter pillows

A very common type of sofa cushion now. They are sewn quite simply, the main thing is to have the alphabet with in the right language. And increase the letters to the right size, Certainly.

The most important thing is not to forget to cut required quantity strips for the side jumper.

I found two such alphabets, but there are many more on the Internet. a large number of different fonts, each of which is suitable for lettering creativity.

Photos of baby pillows

There will also be a lot of inspiring photos at the end of the article, so don't miss it

Soft heart for dear

Now we’ll talk about how to give a gift to your loved one with your own hands. Otherwise, Valentine's Day is about to come, and somehow I rarely prepare you for it)

What gift am I talking about? We will sew a beautiful pink heart-shaped pillow with voile frills.

Necessary materials

  • faux fur for the heart itself (the pillow is quite large, so the dimensions of the material are decent: 110 x 40 cm);
  • veil, chiffon or organza for frills and flowers (dimensions: 300 x 30 cm);
  • synthetic padding or padding polyester for stuffing;
  • threads in the color of the fabric;
  • satin ribbon for bow;
  • rhinestones;
  • paper for patterns;
  • pencil for transferring patterns;
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • pins for pinning patterns and frills.

You will need patterns (click to enlarge):

As you can see, this is only half of our heart. Therefore, when you cut it out, transfer first one half, then the other. And so on for both parts.

Cut out two parts so that the direction of the pile on them is the same. Cut a strip of the following dimensions from the veil: 300 x 18 cm. Such a long length is needed so that when further gathering this strip you can insert it into the edges of the pillow.

Now fold the strip in half lengthwise. Sew on sewing machine two lines at a distance from the edge and from each other by about 5 - 7 mm. But do not fasten the ends of the thread! And leave more thread on all sides.

We haven't secured our stitching, so now we can tighten it. Just pull both threads and slowly gather our frill until the desired state(the length of the finished frill should be equal to the length of the edge of the pillow itself).

Once the threads are tight, tie all the threads into knots at the ends and trim off the excess threads.

Now you need to put the frill inside the pillow, as shown below, and pin it.

And then baste and sew without sewing to the end. Leave a small hole. After everything is sewn, turn the future pillow inside out and fill it with synthetic down.

Now sew the ends of the frill together, as in the bottom photo.

If you have a small reserve of frill left, you can slightly hide the seam by making a small fold. All that remains is to sew up the left hole.

Our pillow, of course, is good, but there are not enough decorative elements on it, so we will make roses with you. To make roses, you will need 3 strips of veil with the following dimensions: 9 x 50 cm, 5 x 30 cm and 4 x 17 cm. Process them as well as a frill for a pillow.

It's time to wrap our rose! To do this, start rolling the rosette as below. But when wrapping the flower, bend the edges of the rose so that it looks more natural. Using this principle, make all 3 roses.

The roses turned out great, didn't they? I hope everything worked out for you too. By the way, I wrote about creating similar roses in one of the previous posts.

All that remains is to sew or glue the rose to the pillow. It turns out very nice:

Roller “Princess Hotdog”(don't worry about the name, this is a character from one stoned cartoon)

I don’t have a detailed photo description, but I can say one thing: for the body you will need six elongated wedges and two parts (almost semicircles) for the muzzle.

Other fabric fantasies

It's nice to know that blog readers are inspired by my posts. The wonderful needlewoman Marina Grudzinskaya sewed pillows based on the works presented in this article. Come visit her (profile in In contact with And Instagram) and evaluate the products yourself:

I want to show you where to buy excellent materials to create super-soft and delicate pillows that are indistinguishable from store-bought ones. I bought this myself wonderful fleece- I couldn’t be happier, he’s so nice. The most important thing is that the color palette is excellent.

On this, Dear friends, I bid with you. This time the article turned out to be very full of ideas (personally, I counted about 50 ideas). I hope that we found exactly the option you wanted. See you soon!

Sincerely, Anastasia Skoracheva

The idea to make pillows in the shape of animals came to my mind when I saw these at an exhibition. They looked very funny. We were with our daughter, and she was the first to notice them. She really wanted to buy such a pillow, but I decided to sew it myself. Moreover, my daughter’s birthday was approaching, and I had not yet decided on a gift.

I took it at home required material and began to tinker. I decided to sew a cat pillow. I made a body out of a rectangle. She pulled it over, indicating the head. I sewed triangles to it. We got ears. Making the paws and tail turned out to be no more difficult. I embroidered the eyes with floss threads, made a mustache from wool threads. I made a pillow toy in one evening!

On the morning of my birthday, I went into my daughter’s room with a cat pillow. My baby quickly woke up and was delighted with the new toy. From that moment on, pillows in the shape of animals became my hobby. I sew them for home and for friends as gifts.

Most often I sew them from scrap materials. Manufacturing takes very little time. And such pillows turn out to be unusual and effective. Both children and adults like them. They can decorate the interior.

Isn’t it great when you have a pillow in the shape of a fluffy cat on your sofa? And you made it with your own hands, and didn’t buy it at exorbitant prices in the store!

Volumetric heart made of roses

A handmade pillow can be a wonderful gift. Armed with imagination and a thread and a needle, you can even turn it into a unique Valentine’s card. We are offering to you step-by-step master class making an unusual pillow with a voluminous heart.

To work you will need:

  • ready-made pillow of the desired size;
  • fabric for roses, which does not require overcasting the cut;
  • scissors;
  • needle and thread.
Cut circles with a diameter of approximately 8 cm from the fabric; they may be slightly crooked and slightly different in size. This will only add volume and realism to the flowers.

Take the circle of fabric by the middle, gather it, forming folds as in the photo. Secure the workpiece in the desired position with a couple of stitches.

Sew another circle of fabric from the bottom, forming a voluminous bud.

Continue sewing circles onto the rose until you get the desired size flower.

Prepare the remaining roses using the same scheme. Their number depends on the size of the flower heart.

Sew the flowers to the pillow starting with the outline of the heart.

Place the pieces tightly together so that there are no gaps between them. A magnificent heart is ready to conquer and conquer hearts.

This designer pillow will decorate the room of a capricious fashionista or become the highlight of your living room. And she will lift your spirits just by looking at her.

Fluffy pillow

An original pillow with fringe will fit well into any interior. Pleasant to the touch fleece will make it a favorite thing not only in the children's room.

To work you will need:

  • fleece for the base of the pillow and fringe;
  • filler;
  • scissors;
  • threads;
  • pins;
  • sewing machine.
Cut two 40 x 40 cm squares from fleece.

It is better to choose a fabric for fringe several colors of the same range- you will get a stylish transition between them. In our case, we use 10 strips of 37*10 cm in three shades of brown.

Fold each strip in half and cut the fringe.

Sew the first strip to the base of the pillow, 1 cm from the edges. This is the result you should get.

Next, bend the fringe to one side.

Sew a second strip next to it at a distance of approximately 1.5 cm from the first.

Continue sewing the fringe in the same way. Alternate dark stripes with light ones through several rows, achieving a beautiful and smooth transition colors.

Place a second square on top of the fringed piece and pin along the edges. Sew the pillow around the perimeter, leaving a small hole for stuffing.

Turn the pillow inside out and stuff it with filling. It is better to use padding polyester or holofiber. Natural materials, such as cotton wool and fluff, can clump over time and the product will lose its neat appearance.

Sew the opening with a blind stitch.

It turns out very beautiful cushion, which will create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort in your home.

Pillow "Butterfly Wings"

We present to you detailed photo lesson on decorating interior pillows. Even if sewing is not your thing, you can easily master it: you will need a ready-made pillow for the job. Guided by step by step instructions, you will turn an ordinary pillowcase into a masterpiece of art design.

Pillow-toy “Owl”

A funny and bright owl is a win-win gift option for both adults and children. When such a cute bird settles in your baby’s bedroom, he will be happy not only to sleep with it, but also to play with it.

To work you will need:

  • cotton in two colors;
  • felt for eyes and beak;
  • black buttons or beads for the pupils;
  • ribbon for bow;
  • chalk;
  • threads;
  • needle and pins for sewing;
  • scissors;
  • lace;
  • filler.
Transfer the owl pattern to paper in the desired size.

Attach the pattern to the fabric and cut out necessary details, for the body and wings, make an allowance of 1 centimeter.

To decorate the toy, lace, bows and a wooden flower button are used. If you are using a pattern in life size, then cut out a rectangle of 8*16 cm and a square with a side of 4.5 cm for the bow, or change the size of these parts in proportion to the owl.

Sew the beak and lace using a zigzag stitch. The lace is placed in the center of the body, between the wings.

Using the same seam, sew on the wings and eyes. Hand attach the black pupil buttons.

Fold the parts of the owl's body right sides inward, secure with pins and sew. Leave a hole at the bottom between the wings for further manipulation.

Turn the toy inside out, iron it and fill it with stuffing. If you used ordinary scissors to cut out the parts, before turning them inside out, make neat notches near the ears and in all convex places so that the fabric does not tighten.

Sew the hole closed with a blind stitch.

You can do some decorating. Fold the square for the bow into a strip and iron it.

Fold the rectangle in half with the right side facing inward and sew, leaving a 1 cm seam allowance.

Turn it inside out, gather it in the middle and sew on the prepared strip, forming a bow. Sew it to the owl's ear.

Tie a bow from a small piece of ribbon, sew it and a wooden button to the body of the toy.

Such a cute owl will reliably guard your sleep.

Another idea to implement is to sew a respectable eagle owl according to this pattern. It’s enough just to show your imagination and choose the appropriate toy color scheme and design.

Pillow with applique “Cat in Love”

An elegant pillow with a cool applique is a wonderful gift for any occasion. With its help, you can confess your feelings or simply cheer up your loved one.

To work you will need:

  • thick white pillowcase 35*35cm;
  • cotton shreds in 4 colors;
  • white interlining;
  • iron;
  • 3 green beads for eyes;
  • threads to match the fabric;
  • decorative braid.

Cut out two rectangles 17*13 cm- clouds around the cat and fish. In our case, they are white with orange polka dots. You can choose the color to suit your taste.

The cat's body is a rectangle 16*12 cm, orange with small white polka dots.

Cut a rectangle from white fabric 20*11 cm. From it you will get the eyes and thoughts of a cat.

Cut out a rectangle 10*5 cm made of green fabric for the body of the fish.

Fold the non-woven fabric with the adhesive side to the wrong side of the rectangles and iron them so that they stick together. This will make it easier to cut out small parts and they will not crumble.

Cut out the blanks for the applique. You can use cardboard templates or immediately cut out parts from fabric.

Arrange the elements on the pillowcase and achieve the desired image. Mark the ground line using decorative tape. Choose the expression of the cat's loving eyes.

Once you have decided on the location of all the elements of the application, you can begin last stage. All that remains is to sew them to the pillowcase.

Using a small white zigzag stitch, stitch the outline of the white cloud to the polka dot cloud.

Using a green zigzag, sew the outline of the fish to the prepared two-layer cloud. Embroider the fish's fins and the outline of the head. Attach an eye bead.

Sew the parts of the cat with a fine zigzag using threads to match the fabric. IN last resort attach the eyes and embroider a mustache for him.

Embroidered paws will add even more charm to the animal. You can complement the applique with small flowers to make the composition more expressive.

The finished pillow will definitely take the crown place on the sofa in the living room and will become the star of your interior.

Want even more cats? We are offering to you interesting idea for creativity: sew a charming kitten, which by its very appearance will evoke slumber and peace.

To work you will need:

  • cotton fabric 3 colors;
  • fleece;
  • interlining;
  • scissors;
  • iron;
  • filler;
  • chalk or special marker for fabric;
  • floss threads;
  • 2 buttons;
  • pins;
  • pattern.
First of all, print out the kitten pattern on paper or redraw it by hand. Cut out all the elements.

Place the body pattern on the fabric, trace and cut it out with a 1 cm allowance. Place the part with the wrong side on the adhesive side of the interlining, secure with pins and cut out. Prepare the second piece of the fleece body in the same way.

Cut out the kitten's paws, ears and tail.

Remove the pins and iron the two-layer body parts so that the cotton adheres to the interlining.

Fold the parts of the ears, legs and tail in pairs with the right sides inward and sew them on a machine, leaving holes for turning them inside out. Cut the stitched blanks with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the parts inside out and iron them, stuff them with filler. Sew the holes with a zigzag. Use pins to attach the resulting pieces to the front side of the cat's front. Sew them to the kitten's body using a zigzag.

Draw the cat's face with chalk.

Place the fleece piece (back) on top and secure it with pins. Sew the pieces together, leaving a small hole at the bottom for turning inside out. Trim the seam allowances with curly scissors or make regular notches.

Turn the workpiece right side out and iron it. Fill the toy with filler and sew up the hole left earlier with a hidden seam.

Decorate pillowcases with plant prints

An original way to decorate a pillowcase with a floral design is to transfer prints of living fresh grass and leaves onto it. A product with this design will be unique and one of a kind. It will also warm you up on winter evenings with thoughts of warm summer.

To work you will need:

  • natural light fabric;
  • freshly picked plants;
  • hammer;
  • scissors;
  • parchment, preferably siliconized for baking.

Fern, plantain, and clover are perfect for prints. Pick the plant you need, spread it on the fabric and cover with parchment. Beat it very hard with a hammer so that the juice comes out of the leaves, which is absorbed into the fabric and forms an imprint. Remember: Plants need to be picked on a hard, flat surface.

Experiment with different leaves, stems, and placement to get the look you want.

Learning something is always difficult and interesting. The desire for everything new, the desire to create is almost natural to human nature. Mastering one more skill in needlework takes us one step forward and allows us to improve our skills. Perhaps today a new skill for you will be making pillows with your own hands; the patterns that we have selected for you will help you with sewing.

Pillow toys: sleeping owls

We will sew these dormant owls measuring 40×40 cm:

A step-by-step master class will help us with this.

You need to prepare:

  • cotton-based fabric for the pillowcase and thicker fabric for the bedspread;
  • felt for decorating the muzzle;
  • paper to redraw the pattern on;
  • pencil;
  • padding polyester;
  • a small piece of artificial leather;
  • scissors;
  • lightning;
  • fabric glue.

The pattern in the photo has a straight bottom for easy sewing of a zipper.

Trace the pattern on the wrong side of the fabric for the pillowcase and for the bedspread, set aside seam allowances. Cut out the owl parts from both types of fabric. You should get 4 pieces for one pillow.

Cut out the eyes and nose from felt, apply and sew with a zigzag.

Make eyelashes from artificial leather and glue them to the eyes.

Now you need to sew on the fastener. First, process the bottom cut of the fabric with an overlock or zigzag stitch. Fold the edges inside out and stitch one part of the zipper, covering the teeth halfway, then the other.

The clasp is hidden.

Connect the pieces using a straight stitch, placing them right sides together.

Particular attention should be paid to the seam near the zipper.

Cut seam allowances close to the seam or make notches in rounded areas.

Turn right side out.

Cut out 4 paw pieces.

Fold right sides together and stitch, leaving holes for turning inside out, trim seam allowances.

Turn the legs inside out, stitch along the edge, and overstitch the unstitched area. Then pin the paws with needles, as shown in the photo.

Sew the attached parts, fold the edge, and stitch again.

To make voluminous paws, they can be stuffed with synthetic padding. If it is necessary to give them hardness, then to do this, non-woven fabric or other material is glued from the inside out with glue.

Make the second pillowcase in a similar way.

Now we need to sew the napkin. Take the cut out pieces from thick fabric, fold them with the wrong sides up and machine stitch them, leaving a small unstitched window. Seal the seams with an overlocker and turn out the napkin.

Carry out the stuffing and sew up the hole with a hidden seam.

Sew another pillowcase for the second pillowcase.

Tie a bow for the girl, make a butterfly out of leatherette for the boy.

These are the owls made from fabric.

What other pillows are there?
