The “natural” situation outside the perimeter of the site may not be very impressive: an empty field, an ugly ravine, a clearing with weeds, a washed out road, a drying tree, etc. But this is not the worst option! The site may have a view of the neighbor’s barn or toilet, “warehouse” building materials, high voltage pole. But this too can be dealt with.

1. Cover unwanted views. Position tall trees and shrubs, as well as all kinds garden designs so that such “beauty” is not visible from various significant points of the site, as well as from the windows of your house. Do not forget that the composition must be harmonious. Use the same types of plants that grow outside the site and are visible from it. This will completely disguise the unwanted appearance. For example, if there is a birch tree nearby, the best thing is to plant several birch trees on the border of the site, then they will create a natural, pleasing to the eye and reasonable composition. If you use something atypical, the eye will involuntarily “cling” to an “object” that is uncharacteristic of the landscape.

2. Create a distraction. Sometimes an undesirable view cannot be completely covered - due to its complex location or too large size. There is only one way out: to distract attention, not to let your eyes concentrate on it.

Make your site emphatically decorative: introduce a few catchy, perhaps even whimsical elements, add a couple of bright color spots. This is exactly the case when some “overkill”, even “kitsch”, is good.

For example, a completely mirrored flower bed, a plant support in the form of a huge floor lamp, a massive sculpture or a flower garden fence made of colored concrete columns will become ideal solution problems: the eye will be drawn to unusual elements.

How to make a fence from neighbors

So, my dear readers, let’s talk about neighbors, that is, how to properly and beautifully isolate yourself from them. Neighbors, however, are different, but there are those for whom it is better not to show their “goods” in the yard. For me personally good neighbors. The exhaustive one is enough for us: “ Good morning" or "Hello!" But time flies, we are constantly doing some kind of repairs, reconstruction, cleaning, putting a “maraffe” in the yard, especially with the arrival of spring, the working season. This also applies to our neighbors’ fences. When the time comes to replace the fence, some problems may arise in the correctness of this fence. It sounds kind of strange, but there is a reason for this.

In order not to spoil relations with neighbors, before installing a fence, you need to inform them about it. Moreover, most often when installing a fence you will also have to trample on their territory. If they have green spaces near the border of their territory, then you need to discuss where you can walk and what it is advisable to bypass. Otherwise, we are always indignant at our neighbors, but after installing the fence we can leave ourselves on their territory construction garbage. (photo of a hedge fence from neighbors)

Now there is a fashion for profiled sheets - metal, “blind”, smooth or embossed, different heights and coloring. Most people put them on themselves, and preferably higher! Really impressive high fence? But a high, “deaf” fence – that is, without clearings, holes, etc. – has many disadvantages. So, such a fence can create a wind well - this is when the wind creates turbulence, and it’s not a fact that it’s not on your side. Here you can read about how to protect yourself from strong winds by creating fences - out of order. material or green spaces - how to protect the area from the wind.

Well, since we are landscape designers, gardeners, then maybe we need to pay more attention to green spaces - otherwise we can enclose ourselves in bricks and corrugated sheets, grow a tree with difficulty and run around it: “Look, I’m a master, I can do it!”))) Much more pleasant is the rustling of leaves, spring bloom, an offering to us, hard workers, as a gift of fruits, nuts, berries, fruits for our care and love for natural beauty!... So I suggest planting plants as a fence - they also allow air to pass through well, without creating air stagnation in the garden, but also protecting from strong winds. In this case, there should be a fence, but not high and not “deaf” - and it could be a chain-link fence, a picket fence, a wattle fence... It will protect your area from the penetration of domestic animals, poultry from neighboring areas. (photo of a garden mesh fence)

If you want to isolate yourself from annoying neighbors, then you need to think a little here. People often complain that their neighbors have built a high fence, back side which does not look aesthetically pleasing at all, and besides, the fence on their site creates a shadow under which nothing will grow! This is not good. For such things it seems not big problems neighbors ruin relationships forever. So maybe it's better not to make these problems? If you want to install a fence, then by law the fence that separates your and your neighbor’s property must be transparent or not “deaf” so as not to create a shadow. Good options are wooden fencing (picket fence, unedged or edged board) or chain-link mesh, which in turn can also be veiled so that it is not entirely transparent, but also looks aesthetically pleasing. The best option is to green it. Can be dropped off climbing plants, vines that will delight not only your eye, but also your neighbor’s. Here you can read about climbers and vines in the garden using this link.

These are exactly the kind of fences that look aesthetically pleasing on both sides and can improve relations with neighbors! But about planting trees and bushes as a fence, I will say this: always find out the diameter of the mature crown of the tree that you want to plant as a fence. If the crown of a tree “climbs” onto the neighbors’ property, then they have the right to cut off the branches or, even better, to collect fruits and nuts that are located on their territory. Therefore, it is better to plant tall, but not wide-growing trees! For example, we install a chain-link mesh, next to it (we step back half a meter from the mesh) we plant cypress trees at a distance of 2 meters from each other, between the cypress trees near the mesh itself you can sow climbing and vines (I recently met the dolichos liana - how it blooms, so gently lilac color... oh...), climbing and vines will just cover the space between the cypress trees and your neighbors will need to pick out the “peephole” in the greenery with their fingers to see what you are doing. Well, if they are so arrogant, then you shouldn’t be left behind, if you notice espionage - just don’t pay attention and do everything you did before - they’ll see enough and it won’t be interesting to them anymore. After all, they already know everything about you. They stop by just when they want to know more!)

To draw attention not to your yard activities, but to the fence itself, you can decorate it. Here even a child can help, they have a developed imagination. The most simple decoration maybe it's green plastic bottles, in which the top is cut off (where the lid is), and decorated with moisture-resistant paints. Draw their eyes, nose, mouth. And preferably with expression, so that they all have different emotions. Don’t forget that you need to show only good emotions towards your neighbors.) They are put on fence posts. Green bottles are not noticeable among the greenery, but painted faces will give the fence “character”. I would also buy a sculpture or cut out a cat from foam plastic. Naturally, the foam also needs to be decorated. And right there, on the fence. Imagine what a shock the neighbors' cats will be! This is all psychological techniques- show eyes. If there are eyes drawn on some element of the fence facing the neighbors, then the neighbors will subconsciously not want to look at your yard, because they are being “followed”…. (photo of a wooden fence between areas)

There is no need to install benches, gazebos, or playgrounds near the fence, where it is not advisable to have gatherings next to neighbors. Because the words spoken by you or your children may not be interpreted by your neighbors in the correct sense. Well, you know, I have such neighbors that I’m not afraid to talk about anything so that they can hear - and they can assent, ask again, inform, and this is even nice!) But if the neighbors misunderstand you, then in such places it is better to install utility buildings, garages, greenhouses, or plant a garden in which you came and worked, picked fruit in the fall, that is, it is advisable to make these places work places in which you need to do something. Often people are not attracted to the work of others, especially since you can’t talk or gossip, a person works, there’s no time! But overhearing a conversation while relaxing in a gazebo is quite possible. (photo of a plastic fence between areas)

And now some official information. Legislative norms for erecting a fence between neighbors.

Few people know that the Town Planning Code of the Russian Federation regulates not only the construction, but also the planning of any structures and buildings on the territory of a plot of land. It does not contain any clear instructions regarding a categorical prohibition or, conversely, the need to place a solid fence between two neighboring houses. As a rule, in in this case apply sanitary standards and rules that are announced in SNiP and also apply to SNT.

But, you should keep in mind that the administration of the local area where you live may have its own rules and regulations for construction, which also apply to the construction of fence structures. In addition, you may even need planning permission from the local authority. Be sure to obtain written consent from the residents of all neighboring houses. Remember that if the owner of a certain land plot, then the new owner has every right to tear down the fence or demand to do so.

There is an unspoken rule that says that the pillars should be located on the very border of two plots, or on the side of the person who is erecting the fence. The fence crossbars must be on the territory of the owners of this fence and not protrude into the territory of neighbors. It is strictly forbidden to enter the territory of neighbors; it is necessary to calculate the distance between support pillars fence

If the situation is the other way around - your neighbor wants to build a blind fence between yours and his, then you must understand what standards he should not violate. Based on SNiP, all individual areas must be fenced, and the fence should not be mesh or lattice. It should not be higher than one and a half meters in height. If you notice that the installation of a blind fence is contrary to the law and infringes on the rights of neighboring landowners, then you need to urgently contact the horticulture department with a written statement.

Most likely, the dispute can be resolved peacefully, otherwise you will have to file a lawsuit in court. Remember, however, that then you will need to prove violations of your rights by your neighbors. For example, you can prove that a neighbor, with his fence, will darken some part of your plot, which you intended for growing crops, flowers, grapes, etc. As proof of this, you can present an act of violation of the law, which is drawn up based on the results of a forensic examination (the customer pays for it independently).

If the experts clearly make a decision on a violation of current rules and regulations, then the court will 100% decide in your favor. In addition, the court also obliges the defendant, who in this case is your neighbor, to reimburse the costs that you are forced to incur in connection with paying for the services of experts.

Instructions for installing a fence between areas.

So, you are armed with all the necessary knowledge regarding regulations and know your rights. Below is step-by-step instruction on conducting negotiations with neighbors and installing the fence itself.

  • Coordination of plans with neighbors. If you plan to fence your front or back yard, then it is not at all necessary to discuss your intentions with your neighbors. Moreover, there is no need to ask for any permission for a construction project. However, in order to strengthen relations with neighbors, as well as to avoid misunderstandings in the future, you need to first talk with them about your plans and intentions. This will clearly define the boundaries of the property and save you from claims against each other. If you are lucky, your neighbors will support your idea, it is possible that they will even be ready to help you not only physically, but even financially.
  • Determination of site boundaries and calculation of materials. Determine the line of your property, make sure the location of your future fence, set aside correct sizes and calculate the quantity and cost of materials. This will save you from any unpleasant confusion later when you start installing the fence. This will also help you be fully prepared when negotiating with your neighbors, especially when they wonder if you are going to take away part of their territory.
  • Inform about the construction of the fence. There is no need to plan to officially inform your neighbors about the implementation of your construction project. Just the next time you see them, supposedly casually tell them about your intentions to build a fence. Be sure to tell them exactly what type of fence you want to build and from what material. They can even help you decide on your choice and help you with payment or installation. Keep in mind that this turn of events is only likely if you notify your neighbors of your intentions in advance.
  • Learn to negotiate. It may happen that your neighbors do not like the idea of building a fence, or they are not satisfied with the height and other factors. If this happens, arrange a meeting where you discuss all their complaints against you. Learn to negotiate correctly so that in the end, your neighbors agree with you and want to participate in the construction. Don’t be too principled; you will need to give in to them in some details.
  • Contact a lawyer. If your neighbors are very conflicted people and do not want to compromise on anything, you will have to contact a lawyer. He will help you draw up a document according to which your neighbors will be obliged to pay a certain amount for the construction of the fence.
  • Respect other people's interests. Your neighbors are people just like you. Respect their interests and they will treat you the same.

And finally, I wish you good neighbors. A fence is a fence, you can’t protect yourself from gossip, they can be made up anyway. But if you want to build a fence, then make it pleasant not only for yourself, but also improve the side that will be on the neighbors’ side. And they will lose interest in visiting you. This way you will catch “two birds with one stone” at the same time!

I hate corrugated sheets mainly because they look ugly. Secondly, for absolute light-tightness. Here, admire it. The month of April. In the foreground there is a large snowdrift - this is snow from the road. But along the fence there was just snow that just fell and then didn’t melt, because the fence provided shade and cold.

I am for fences to be more transparent. At the same time, I understand that it is not very pleasant to live always in public view. But why separate your children from your neighbors? Why isolate yourself from your neighbors on the street, with whom it’s so nice to exchange a few words during the evening promenade? Why lock yourself in a dull yard for prisoners to exercise (some even have barbed wire along the top)? Why not cover and hide only those corners of the garden in which you want to retire? Veranda near the house. Terrace near the bathhouse. A cozy nook for reading. And leave the rest of the area open to the sun, the admiring glances of passersby, and allow your own gaze not to constantly rest against the wall.

This year we are planning to expand the house, and with it the reconstruction of the veranda. In the middle of summer, at the first stage of reconstruction, our veranda looked like this

In addition to the purely aesthetic aspect, there is also a practical one. Let's say, my neighbors have a perimeter fence with a two-meter high corrugated sheet fence. Yes, I don't see them from below. But from the windows of the second floor their site is clearly visible. All, except! one and a half to two meters directly adjacent to the fence. That is, if such an impervious to the eye, but more attractive fence stood close to the recreation area, then it would not be visible from the second floor. And now it’s in full view. Think about it :)
So. Until this spring, our veranda was open on three sides. Actually, it's just an elegant polycarbonate canopy. The fourth side is adjacent to the house. When construction began on the neighboring site, and the workers there, during breaks with nothing to do, constantly stared at what I was doing there, I hung a curtain on that side. Striped Gulsporre from IKEA. In addition to the wonderful stripe, what I liked about these curtains is that they slightly shade, while allowing light to pass through, you can’t see anything through them, and they are made of 70% polyester, and therefore dry quickly and do not develop terrible black mold on them - a thunderstorm any cotton textiles I left outside, even under the roof. They spent the whole summer hanging out on the edge of the veranda, getting pretty fussed about, but then they washed themselves perfectly in the washing machine the first time.

I write about curtains in such detail because this is the easiest option to isolate the veranda from prying eyes. Simple, elegant, cozy and mobile. You can change them at least every week, depending on your mood. Just be sure to pay attention to the composition of the fabric, because pure cotton, as I already said, does not behave well in wet weather.
Look how beautiful and opaque it is.

And here’s a good idea on how to fasten the curtains from the bottom so that they don’t flutter too much in the wind.

I also like the combination of trellises and curtains. Like here, for example. I definitely use it

And another trellis. With flowers. In fact, this fine lattice only seems completely transparent. From the inside, it’s great to see the surroundings through it, but from the outside, from a certain distance, it’s hard to see.

And, of course, different fences. You will be surprised how many options for fencing can be made from regular boards and slats.

One cannot fail to mention, of course, hedges and climbing plants. Some might argue that they are only opaque in the warmer months. But in winter, rarely does anyone sit outside in negligee, maybe it’s not scary that the veranda is visible in winter :)

For some reason, I found almost no pictures of blinds on verandas. And it seems to me that this a good option, because it allows you to create multiple use cases. Maybe they don't behave well outdoors?

.

And a few more ideas in different styles. I like them less, but suddenly someone else will like them.

Here, for example, is a screen made from old doors. IN country style or shabby chic will fit perfectly.

How to hide from neighbors: hedges in the country and other fences

Let's face it: even if you have the best country neighbors in the world, there are times when you really don't want to engage in conversation with them. Well, this is quite understandable, because the saying about “your own fortress” is true not only in relation to the house, but also to the garden plot.

Often this problem is solved simply by building massive fences and fences for the dacha. Meanwhile, designers offer a variety of elegant solutions to isolate yourself from your neighbors and at the same time decorate the area.

Such methods include light wooden screens, spectacular pergolas, elegant canopies, as well as classic hedges in the country, for which you can use different kinds plants. Typically, such fences are created from evergreen trees, but you can use flowering bushes.

A win-win option could be vertical screens, awnings and pergolas made of wooden planks or wire mesh; climbing plants: grapes, ivy, bindweed and other vines entwine these structures, creating luxurious green walls.

It should be taken into account, however, important advice landscape designers: any fences and fences for a summer residence should be placed not on the border of your site, but close to own home: paradoxically, but thanks to this the yard or personal plot It will look much more spacious.

Well, now let's move on to specific examples:

1. A hedge in a dacha can be supplemented with artistically made screens from natural wood and tinted glass. They will become the visual center of the site, giving it originality.

2. If you want to shield yourself from the eyes of neighbors living in a high cottage, make a lattice arch with your own hands: it will not only protect you from view, but will also provide shade in the summer heat.

3. If you don’t like a hedge in your dacha, replace it with a regular wall made from light-colored wooden planks. If you choose a decking of the same tone, you will get a harmonious corner where you can enjoy a secluded relaxation.

4. Another option for private space: this time it is proposed to use regular curtains, suspended from the roof of the canopy. Everyone will understand their practicality: depending on your mood and desire to chat, they can be moved or moved apart.

5. A vertically landscaped wall can be a successful replacement for a hedge in a dacha. In this case, an ordinary metal grid, next to which a colorful vine with bright orange bells was planted.

6. Even a pizza oven, which is combined with neatly trimmed thujas, which can be replaced with other, more frost-resistant plants, can become an unusual space delimiter.

7. Advice again experienced designers: “protecting yourself” from neighbors with the help of fences and garden fences, you need to leave small open spaces. In this photograph, for example, we see that green wall of climbing plants has holes in the center that make this lightweight design and airy.

8. Practical solution, which is also applicable in the loggias of multi-storey buildings: install containers with high indoor plants. First of all, you should pay attention to tall succulents that require a minimum of care.

9. If you do not have the opportunity or desire to arrange hedge for a dacha, but ordinary wooden fence seems boring to you, try creating an original fence from spectacular finishing materials, for example, bamboo, which will bring the atmosphere of the mysterious East to your site.

10. What if you try to make a patio yourself? This will require some expenses, but the result is worth it! A canopy in combination with a firewall will decorate your site; besides, you can always have a party here without attracting the attention of your neighbors.

Strangely, the photos disappeared from the publication, so I had to re-upload them again, fortunately they were stolen on social networks, at least there was some benefit from this.

Of course, the most reasonable solution would be to build a fence. But in some cases, for example, when this is a partnership, SNT, blind fences may be prohibited by the charter, I have encountered this. Or the neighbors will begin to be indignant that you blocked their sun, this also happens.
