Installation door hinges Do-it-yourself repairs are a responsible job, because the accuracy of the door’s orientation relative to the jamb depends on their correct insertion. The slightest misalignment can lead to loose closure or, in the most severe cases, complete impossibility of closing with a lock. Therefore, there are two options - learn how to hang the door on the buttonholes yourself or entrust this important procedure to a qualified specialist.

How to choose?

There are several types of door hinges.

Steel

The most durable and reliable. They don't have a very attractive appearance. Chrome-plated products are prettier, but their cost is higher than regular ones. The lifespan of these elements is practically unlimited.

Brass

The most beautiful in appearance, but short-lived loops. Brass is a soft alloy, so it tends to wear off quite quickly.

Brass plated

The materials used for their manufacture are brass-like alloys. Relatively cheap parts, but their service life is short, since they wear out too quickly.

The design of door hinges depends on the material of the door leaf.

  • Elements for glass doors (for example, bath or sauna doors) - grip and fix the glass on both sides. Inserts made of rubber or silicone help with fixation. To install such door hinges, special equipment is required.

  • For metal doors, hinges are divided into external and hidden. The design of the external ones includes support ball bearings or liner balls and an adjustment screw. This is done to compensate for erasure metal parts. Internal hinges (hidden) protect against unwanted persons entering the room - they cannot be damaged or removed, since they have no protruding parts.

  • For plastic doors, the hinges are equipped with devices for adjusting the distance between the door leaf and the frame. They are installed by craftsmen on metal-plastic doors used for balconies and loggias.
  • Models for wooden doors are divided into overhead or card (simple and corner), mortise, screw-in and Italian. Overlays can be removable or non-removable. Possible self installation them on the doors between rooms using carpentry tools.

The following parameters influence the choice of door hinges.

  • Weight. For massive and oversized doors, additional hinges are required, whereas usually only two are needed. In this case, the third loop is not installed in the middle, but is shifted slightly upward. It should also be noted that not all fastening elements are suitable for heavy doors.
  • The presence or absence of ball bearings. They are necessary so that heavy doors open easily and do not creak.

  • Opening vector. Based on this feature, loops are divided into right, left and universal. The latter type of products can be attached from any side, but their installation and dismantling becomes more complicated.
  • Intensity of use.

When choosing products in a store, be sure to check them - sometimes they sell defective products. It is advisable to choose a color for the model so that it does not stand out from the color range door, handle and lock. The same applies to fastening devices.

How to install correctly?

To insert hinges into a wooden door, you will need the following tools:

  • electric cutter (chisel) and hammer;

  • screwdriver;
  • screws;
  • carpentry pencil;
  • construction plumb (level);
  • wood wedges.

First you need to mark. Measure 20-25 cm from the top and bottom of the door leaf and mark with a pencil. Check the wood in this area for defects and damage; if any are found, move the markings slightly.

Attach the edges of the buttonholes to the marks and outline their outline. Using a chisel, cut out a recess in the door along the outlined contour to the depth of the thickness of the tool. Remove excess wood using a chisel and hammer. If you make a mistake at this stage, use cardboard or rubber inserts.

Attach the hinges to the door leaf with screws (self-tapping screws). To prevent cracks, drill thin holes for screws.

The same procedures are carried out with door jamb. To cut out the outline of the door hinges in the frame, fix the door leaf using wooden wedges, leaving a gap of 2-3 mm between it and the frame. To make work easier, if the lock is already in place, lock the door with a key.

Check the position of the door in space using a plumb line - deviations in any direction are unacceptable. To ensure accurate markings, unscrew the hinges from the door leaf.

Avoid excessively deepening the cutout on the door frame - it will lead to warping of the leaf when opening and closing.

In case of insufficient experience with carpentry tools ideal option There will be installation of “no-cut” butterfly hinges. When the door is closed, both parts are nested one inside the other. To open and close the door easily, you need a small gap between the door leaf and the frame.

Installation instructions

  • Measure approximately 25 cm from the top of the door frame, attach the product and trace the outline. This is necessary to correct the position of the part if it is displaced.
  • Drill small holes at the screw mounting points.
  • Attach the hinges to the jamb.

  • Place the door in the opening maintaining the required clearances. Fix it strictly horizontally using wooden wedges.
  • Mark the location of the top buttonhole.
  • Screw the top hinge and remove the wedges. Temporarily support the canvas to prevent it from warping and deforming the loop.
  • Check that it is vertical.
  • Mark the location of the bottom loop. Drill holes for screws.
  • Screw in the screws and secure the bottom hinge.

To put hinges on metal entrance group, you need to perform slightly different steps.

Required tools:

  • welding machine;
  • electrodes with a 3-4 mm cross-section;
  • grinding machine with a sharpening wheel;
  • felt-tip pen;
  • 3mm metal plates.

Stages of installation of overhead hinges with a ball bearing and an adjustment screw

  • install metal door in the door frame;
  • place the prepared plates under and on the sides of the canvas to ensure the required distance between it and the box;
  • measure 24-25 cm from the bottom and top and mark this place with a felt-tip pen;
  • attach the hinges with orientation according to the markings and determine their location, which ensures freedom to open and close the door;
  • use spot welding to attach the hinges so that they securely support the door mass (before this, remove the bearing and adjustment screw);

  • check their correct location by carefully closing/opening the door, also pay attention to the freedom of movement of the door, the absence of warping and the completeness of opening;
  • if everything is done correctly, thoroughly weld all the parts;
  • remove the slag using a grinder until the joint is smooth;
  • insert the ball bearing and adjustment screw;
  • paint the door and hinges, pour grease inside.

If you have doubts about your ability to properly weld fasteners to iron door, call a specialist.

For pretend fabrics, it is better to use corner buttonholes. Their difference from straight ones is that instead of plates they have two corners.

Installation of corner overhead models is carried out according to the same algorithm as straight ones - one part is attached to the end of the door leaf, and the second to the jamb.

Currently, improved types of products are used more during installation. Hidden models do not spoil the surface of the door leaf with their presence; they do not require special care behind you, and doors on such hinges are better able to resist burglary and unauthorized entry.

Inset of hidden elements

  • mark the location of the product parts;
  • use an electric router to cut a hole for the mechanism;
  • in the place intended for fasteners, make a recess using a chisel;
  • disassemble the buttonholes;

  • insert most of it into the jamb and secure with screws;
  • the smaller part is fixed in the door leaf;
  • connect the elements and tighten the adjustment screw;
  • if you want to disguise visible parts of the products, install decorative overlays.

Hanging the door on hinges: how to hang the door leaf correctly

When installing doors, it is important to know how to properly hang the door leaf on the hinges. In general, this work is not too difficult, and therefore even a beginner can do it, but it is necessary to take into account some general recommendations.

Types of loops and their features

First you need to decide which hinges are suitable for your door. There are the following types of fittings:

  • Invoices. The plates differ in their shape and fit into each other when closed. They are attached directly to the surface of the canvas and the box.
  • Mortise. The plates are screwed to the canvas and core so that they are recessed to a depth equal to their thickness.
  • Hidden. They are installed directly in the doors, their main mechanism is hidden in the door leaf.
  • Screw-in. Instead of plates, the design uses pins that are screwed into the material and thus masked.

Types of hinges for interior doors

Mortise hinges are the simplest and most commonly used.

If we are talking about interior door, it is best to use overhead or mortise hinges. Hidden variations are mostly installed for entrances, but doing this with your own hands is quite difficult.

Installing the Top

Since the most popular fittings are mortise card hinges, the process of installing them should be considered in more detail. To do everything flawlessly you will need the following tools:

The best option for carrying out the work is the following sequence: the upper part is installed first, and then the lower.

First you need to outline the position of the parts. Usually two loops are enough. In this case, the top one is installed at a level of 20 cm from the edge, but it is better to move the bottom one a little and fix it another 10 cm higher. If necessary, the third loop is installed clearly in the middle between the top and bottom.

Sequence of installation of mortise card loops

Disassemble the loop into two parts and attach its top to the end of the canvas. Trace the outlines, and then remove some of the material according to these marks. To carefully select the excess, you need to draw a blade along the contour, and then use a hammer and chisel to scrape off the coating and upper layer wood. The depth of the notch must match the thickness of the plate.

After all the parts are recessed flush, they can be fixed in the prepared place. For this, screws or self-tapping screws are used. For screws, you need to pre-drill holes.

Bottom assembly

After the upper part of the hinge has been fixed to the door, you can begin installing the lower fragments. To determine the exact level of their location on the frame, you need to attach the door to the opening. Place the canvas in the box and transfer it to open position. Then place the bottom of the loop so that it can be pushed up. Mark its location, taking into account that after installation the canvas should not touch the floor and, at the same time, should not rub from above.

After the extreme border has been outlined, attach the part to the frame and repeat the operation of installing it in the same sequence: trace the outline, cut off the sides stationery knife and clean it with a chisel. Then screw the parts with self-tapping screws.

Hanging the door

The last step is to directly hang the door itself. The lower part of the hinge contains an axis on which the door with the upper fragments must be placed. Bring the canvas to the open position, lift it and put it on the hinges. If you lift door leaf This is not possible; in this case, detachable hinges with a removable rod are installed. It is necessary to remove the rod from the hinge, connect the two parts of the fittings and insert the rod into place. Before hanging the door, it is recommended to lubricate the parts with machine oil or grease.

Be sure to check the level, otherwise misalignment will occur over time.

To avoid problems during operation, the door must be installed exactly level

As you can see, hanging the door correctly on the hinges is not difficult, but for a beginner it may seem challenging task, which may result in minor defects. Some of them can be eliminated quite simply:

  • if the plates are recessed too deep, place a piece of cardboard, thin plywood or rubber under them;
  • if the canvas rubs against the threshold or floor, you need to put a gasket on the rod to raise its level;
  • It also happens that you need to reweigh the plates, in this case there may be a problem with unscrewing the screw; you can drill it with a drill and then close the hole using a dowel plug.

For better execution get yourself an assistant for work. A look from the outside and free hands will significantly speed up the process.

Recommendations for correct and reliable door hanging

Many people don't know how to hang a door correctly. And they turn to specialized offices that, for a fee, will help solve this problem. But you can do this kind of work yourself without spending extra money and time. And you will have another reason to be proud of yourself as soon as you see the result of your labors. We recommend starting with selecting loops.

How to choose loops?

Before purchasing, you need to decide on the direction and quantity of these parts. With double doors everything is more or less clear. To install them you will need right-hand and left-hand hinges. Determining the direction for a single-leaf door is somewhat more complicated. Stand on the other side of the doors where they open. If the loops are on the right, they are right-handed; if they are on the left, then they are left-handed.

When deciding on the number of hinges, take into account the weight of the door itself. For a single leaf, three hinges are enough. For each canvas double door no more than two fastening mechanisms will be required. The front door can also be secured with four hinges.

Attention! When purchasing hinges, always open them or ask the seller to do so. Otherwise, you may come across a defect in the form of a crooked rod.

Types of loops

Modern hinges are made primarily of steel. Brass ones are very expensive, so they are not worth the money spent on them. It is better to give preference to options made of brass-steel alloy. Higher quality specimens are coated with chrome, which performs protective and decorative functions.

There are several types of loops:

  • Classic. They are practically not used for the front door, since they cannot fully ensure proper security. In addition, they wear out quite quickly, which leads to sagging doors.
  • With a ball. This type is the most popular now. They are durable due to the use of a special steel ball in the design. It contributes to less friction of the hinge elements.
  • Hidden. You won’t be able to hang a door on such hinges on your own without special training and certain knowledge. Despite this, such loops are capable of providing high level protection. It is almost impossible to cut them, since the entire structure is hidden inside.
  • With support bearings. Such loops can be safely called an ideal option. They evenly distribute the weight of the blade, which ensures the durability of the mechanism. With such hinges, the door will be reliably protected from burglary and sawing.

Try to select all door fittings of the same or similar shades. This will make it look less noticeable.

Door hanging technology

If you are going to hang a door, you need to start by securing the hinges to the door leaf. The top hinge is installed at a distance of 20 cm from the edge of the door, the bottom - at a level of 20 cm or 30 cm. If you need to secure three hinges, place the last one exactly in the middle between the first two. For installation of four hinges, divide the height of the door leaf into five equal parts and mark them with a pencil. The resulting four marking points will correspond to the future mounting location.

Only the upper component of the hinge needs to be mounted on the door leaf. The lower one will be attached to the door frame.

Attach the loop at the required distance to the end of the fabric. With help building level determine the horizon and mark it with a pencil. Using a chisel in the place where the loop will be attached, it is necessary to remove the top layer of the canvas (along the contour outlined in pencil). You don’t need to remove a lot - exactly the thickness of the loop.

Then you need to attach the canopy to the door leaf using self-tapping screws. To do this we use a screwdriver. If you don’t have such a tool, you can use a drill, turning it on for slow rotation. When using screws, you must pre-drill the holes. To do this, it is important to work with a drill with a diameter that is 1 mm smaller than the diameter of the screw. Thanks to this, the screw will fit tightly, ensuring reliable fastening loops.

Now you need to mount the door into the frame, open it slightly and insert the lower component of the hinge. It should fit snugly into the box. Trace it with a pencil. This sequence must be followed when working with all remaining loops.

In the circled areas of the box you also need to remove the top layer with a chisel. The lower hinge covers will later be inserted into these recesses. It is very important to ensure that the hinge pin is always in a horizontal position. Otherwise, the door will always open with resistance and jerking.

If it is more convenient for you, you can slightly change the algorithm of actions. First, you can secure the lower components, then move on to installing the upper ones.

The washer between the hinge hinges will allow you to slightly “raise” the door. This will help in cases where it opens and closes with force, the door touches the carpet or scratches the floor.

If there are significant defects on the door leaf where the hinges are installed (for example, cracks or voids), the hinges must be moved. Be sure to move all hinges on the door.

Sometimes the screw does not fit tightly enough into the door leaf. This problem can also be solved very simply. Drill a screw, fill the hole with PVA glue and place it in it wooden dowel. When this structure is dry, you can reinsert the screw into the drilled dowel.

As you can see, hanging a door is a rather painstaking, but quite feasible task for almost any of us. Knowing some tricks, you can install it yourself without outside help. How to remove doors from hinges

During regular use of the door, over time it may become necessary to adjust the position of the door leaf. In almost any case, it may need to be dismantled. Therefore, it is worth knowing how to remove the door from its hinges, adjust its position and hang it back.

Removing the door leaf from various types of hinges

The procedure for removing the product largely depends on the type of hinge mechanisms used. There are several types of them:

The most common are card type loops. To remove doors with such hinges, it is enough to lift the door in the slightly open position. However, most new hinge mechanisms have additional decorative elements and plugs. Therefore, to remove the door leaves, you must remove all additional elements hinges and loosen the tension on the top mounting bolt.

The designs of mortise and screw-in hinge mechanisms in most cases are not very different from card ones. Therefore, the procedure for removing the door is similar.

In addition to this classification, there is a division of all hinges into removable and non-removable.

Removable hinges

Removable include all hinges that allow you to open the door leaf to the position equal to the angle at 90 0. Removing the fabric with such loops is not difficult. To do this, the door leaf opens at a slight angle. An object with sufficient strength to hold the door is placed under the canvas. Next, using a crowbar or handle as a lever, the door is lifted until it is completely removed from its hinges. A jack can be used for this. However, this procedure, even with a jack, is best carried out by two people.

Fixed hinges

Non-removable type products include designs that allow the door to be opened on both sides of the box at an angle of 180 0. Removing a door with such hinges involves unscrewing all existing fasteners of the mechanism. Quite often it is necessary to use a hexagon for this purpose.

Door adjustment

Often, during prolonged intensive use, the door sags and begins to open and close problematically, and may also begin to scratch the flooring. In such cases, it is worth knowing what to do to lift the door on sagging hinges.

Most common reasons The occurrence of such a phenomenon as subsidence of the door leaf can be:

  • Deformation of fastening screws;
  • Significant weight of the canvas;
  • Damage to hinge mechanisms.

In any case, to fix the problem it is necessary to remove the door leaf.

Deformation of mounting screws

If deformation processes are detected, it may be necessary to replace the bent retaining screws with new ones. To do this, after removing the door leaf from the hinges, the strength of the fastenings is checked. If the hinges are loose, then use a screwdriver to remove all damaged screws. In the process of screwing in new fasteners, the gaps that appear are closed using wedges coated with glue. This is necessary to ensure the reliability of the fastenings.

If the holes for the fasteners are fairly broken, then the best option there will be re-hanging of the loops.

Significant weight of the canvas

If, as a result of replacing the fasteners, the sagging of the door has not been eliminated, most likely the problem lies in the large weight of the structure. In this case, to correct the situation, an additional fastening loop is installed at a distance of 200 mm from the upper hinge mechanism.

In this way, the weight of the structure is redistributed among all available door hinges.

Damage to hinge mechanisms

However, there are often cases when, after intensive use, the hinge mechanism itself is damaged. In case of serious damage it is necessary complete replacement. However, in some cases, this situation can be corrected with improvised means.

Using supports in the form of wooden wedges, the sash is raised to the level top beam frames After this, the distance between the loops is measured. Using steel wire, rings are made that fit the size of the hinge mounting pins. After this, having removed the canvas from the hinges, the rings coated with machine oil are put on, and the door is installed in its original place.

Hanging doors

Before hanging the door on its hinges, you need to prepare a certain set of tools. To work you will need:

  • Chisel;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Hammer;
  • Drill;
  • Roulette;
  • Level;
  • A simple or construction pencil.

The installation of hinge mechanisms on the door leaf is carried out in compliance with the principle of weight distribution. The hinges are mounted at a distance of 200 mm from the top of the canvas and 200-300 mm from the bottom. If it is necessary to install additional fastening, it is mounted at a distance of 200 mm from the top hinge.

It is permissible to install only the upper part of the hinge mechanism with a hole for the pin on the door leaf. The lower half of the mechanism with a pin is fixed to the frame of the door structure.

To prepare the installation site for the mechanism, the loops are placed at the required distance and the outline is outlined with a pencil. Next, using a chisel, a recess is made for the hinges. The depth of the cell must correspond to the thickness of the mounting plate.

Installation of door hinges is carried out with self-tapping screws in the prepared place using a screwdriver. When using ordinary screws, holes are drilled with a drill to secure them. It is worth knowing that the diameter of the drill in this case should be 0.5 mm smaller size screw.

Hanging door panels is done by lifting the product in a position corresponding to open doors. The upper halves of the loops are put on the pins of the lower ones with holes. However, before installing the structure, in mandatory The moving parts of the hinge mechanism are treated with lubricants.

How to hang a door on hinges

This article is intended for those who independently decided to figure out how to hang a door on hinges, find out what types of hinges exist and which ones are better suited for certain interior doors.

If you are planning to install doors yourself, you need to know how the door leaf is hung on the hinges. In general, this work is simple and can be done by any beginner in construction, the main thing is to understand the theory, know and follow the recommendations of experts general.

What and how to install hinges on a door

  • Overhead hinges are attached directly on top of the door leaf and door frame, while they differ from each other in shape, and when the doors are closed, they fit into each other.
  • Mortise hinges are screwed over the door leaf and frame into specially prepared recesses in such a way that the screwed hinge does not rise above the surface of the door or frame. They are the most commonly used and considered the simplest.
  • Hidden loops are not visible from the outside, because... are recessed into the thickness of the door leaf, in specially cut recesses.
  • Screw-in loops look like pins, not plates; they are also not visible from the outside, since they are screwed into the thickness of the fabric.

Interior doors are most often hung on mortise or overhead hinges, but exterior doors are hung on hidden and screw-in hinges. To an inexperienced builder it may seem that using hidden loops- this is very difficult, however, it is not so. Installing hinges on a door is possible without outside help and without any experience.

How to properly install hinges on a door?

First, you need to prepare the tool:

  • Pencil for outlining.
  • Ruler.
  • Blade for precise cutting of contours.
  • Chisel.
  • Hammer for chisel.
  • Screwdriver.

Installation of the hinge part on the canvas

First of all, the top hinges are installed on the canvas, this is customary, because this is the most optimal solution. And since card mortise loops are most often used, we’ll start with them.

Take a pencil with a ruler and mark the exact position of the top loop. It should be 20 cm from the top edge of the door leaf. The bottom one should be at a height of 30 cm from the bottom edge of the door. In order to correctly install hinges on a solid wood door, the weight of which is quite large, it makes sense to install a third, middle hinge.

Each loop is disassembled into two halves, each of which is applied to the designated place. Then the place where the loop is attached is carefully traced along its contour with a pencil.

After this, using a chisel, carefully remove a layer of material equal to the thickness of the loop along the marks. To do this, first make neat cuts along the contour with a blade, and only after that the work with a chisel begins. The material is removed little by little by lightly tapping the chisel with a hammer.

In this way, proceed with all the hinge halves that need to be installed, both on the door leaf and on the frame. When all the parts fit into the recesses flush with the surface, the hinges can be screwed on. This is done with self-tapping screws or self-tapping screws, the only difference is that you need to prepare holes for the screws.

Installation of the bottom (box) part

After the hinges are installed on the door leaf, begin installing the corresponding hinge parts on the frame. In order for the door to open and close freely, without touching the floor or the top of the frame, the door leaf must be adjusted correctly - installed exactly in the opening.

Then, having opened the door in this position, you need to mark with a pencil the place where the lower (boxed) halves of the hinges are attached, taking into account that the hinge installed on the door leaf will fit onto the boxed part of the hinge.

After the extreme position marks of the box halves of the hinges have been marked, the door leaf is removed from the opening and the operation is repeated - the hinge is applied to the mark and the outline is completely outlined. Using a blade, cuts are made along the contour, and notches are made with a chisel and hammer. The hinges are screwed on with screws or self-tapping screws.

How to hang a door on hinges

Last necessary stage installation is to hang the door on its hinges. Before we do this, we need to make sure that our new hinges do not creak. To do this, you need to lubricate all the rubbing parts of the hinges with grease or graphite. After this, the hinges need to be brought into the open position of the doors, the door leaf should be brought up and the grooves of the door hinges should be carefully placed on the axles that are located on the box hinges. At the end, an obligatory step is to check the correct installation level; if this is not done, the door may warp in the future.

In principle, there is nothing complicated in installing doors on hinges, but during work annoying mistakes can happen, especially for beginners. Many such defects can be easily eliminated. For example, if you worked too hard with a chisel and the recess turned out to be deeper than required, then you can put a pad made of plywood, cardboard or rubber under the hinge.

If the door leaf has sagged and clings to the threshold, the hinge rod can be increased with an additional spacer. In case of serious errors, it may be necessary to completely remove the plate and move it. Then the recess and hole from the screw are exposed. This problem can be solved using a dowel plug and wood putty.

To ensure that the installation of doors goes without problems, it is better to invite an assistant for this work, and even better - if it is a specialist.

How to properly hang a door on its hinges

When the need arises to hang doors correctly, people often don’t know what to do or where to start. The first thought that appears is to seek help from professional firms, and as a result - wasted time and a lot of money. But if you have working hands and heads this work you can do it yourself. This will save time and money, while you will have the opportunity to be proud of the work you have done yourself.

Selecting loops

First, you need to decide on the number of loops needed and their direction. For double door– everything is clear: one leaf is fixed on the right hinges, the second – on the left. A single-leaf door will take longer. To determine the direction of the hinges, you need to: stand on the opening side of the door; if the hinges are on the right side, then they are right-handed, like the door itself, but if they are on the left side, then of course they are left-handed.

When choosing the number of hinges, be guided by the weight of the door. For the simplest double-leaf interior door, two hinges for each leaf are enough. As for the single-leaf door, it is larger than each of the parts of the double-leaf door, which means its weight is heavier, three hinges should be selected. The front door is also installed on three hinges, sometimes even four.

On a note! When purchasing hinges, be sure to open them: there are many defects, and a bent rod is very common.

When choosing hinges, try to match the design of the entire door. This also applies to screws, but it would be better to purchase self-tapping screws, then you will not need to drill holes for them.

Correct door installation

To hang a door or gate you will need the following tools: a plumb line or level, a drill or screwdriver, a chisel, a hammer, a tape measure and a carpenter's pencil.

The hinges are installed at a distance of 20cm from the top edge and 20-30cm. from the bottom edge of the door. The third loop, if necessary, is attached exactly in the middle of the top and bottom. If you need to adapt a door to four hinges, then divide the length of the entire door by 5, and attach the hinges at the marks.

Only the upper parts of the hinges are attached to the door leaves, and the lower parts are attached to the door frame.

The hinge is adjusted to the front surface of the door at the required distance from its edge, adjusted with a level and marked with a pencil. Using a chisel, the outer layer of the selected area is trimmed to a depth corresponding to the thickness of the hinge fastening plate.

On a note! The circumference of the drill must be 0.5 mm thinner than the diameter of the screw, as a result of which the screw will fit tightly into the hole and the fastener will be reliable.

The door is attached to the frame, after that it is opened slightly, the lower part is placed in one of the canopies, it should fit closely to the door frame, then it is highlighted with a pencil. Such maneuvers must be carried out with all hinges, then the door is removed.
In the designated areas, the outer layer of the tree is trimmed off. Next, the lower hinge covers are attached to these recesses. The main thing for good and silent operation of the door is to ensure that the hinge rods are placed horizontally.

The system for performing the work can be changed, for example, first fix the lower hinge hinges on the door frame, and only after that the upper ones on the door itself.

When the door leaf is placed perpendicular to the door frame and slightly above it, then you can combine the hinge components by placing the upper hinges on the lower rods, connecting the hinges on the door leaf and the frame.

The door may squeak; to eliminate such a defect, you simply need to lubricate the hinges with machine oil, technical petroleum jelly or grease. If it happens that the hinges are cut too deeply, then this can be corrected by placing a rubber gasket, a gasket made of hardboard or thick cardboard under the hinge.

It happens that the door is set too close to the floor and damages the floor during movement. To eliminate this problem, you will need a washer; it must be placed between the hinge canopies.

At times, due to a defect in the wood, it is impossible to embed the hinges in the designated places, so you should move the hinge slightly, but do not forget that this will also affect the location of other hinges.

What to do when a screw is stuck and cannot be pulled out? Of course, using a drill, the screw is removed, and a wooden dowel is placed in the hole using PVA glue. When the glue dries, new screw screws directly into the dowel.

And that’s it, the work that looked incredibly difficult is finished!

  • Screw-in loops look like pins, not plates; they are also not visible from the outside, since they are screwed into the thickness of the fabric.

Interior doors are most often hung on mortise or overhead hinges, but exterior doors are hung on hidden and screw-in hinges. It may seem to an inexperienced builder that using hidden hinges is very difficult, however, this is not so.

The first step is to install the upper hinges on the canvas; this is customary because this is the most optimal solution.

The last necessary installation step is to hang the door on its hinges. At the end, an obligatory step is to check the correct level of installation; if this is not done, the door may warp in the future.

When planning to hang doors on their own, people are often lost because they don’t know where to start. And they turn to expensive specialized companies, which turns out not only to be a waste of time, but also money. But having more or less skillful hands and your head on your shoulders, such work can be done independently. The result is not only saving the aforementioned time and money, but also the opportunity to be proud of yourself, because nothing makes you as happy as the results of your own labor.

Choosing loops

Before you buy loops, you need to decide on their number and direction. For a double-leaf door, everything is clear: one leaf is installed on the right hinges, the other on the left. A little more difficult with a single leaf. You can determine the direction of the hinges in this way: you need to stand on the side in which the opening occurs, and if the hinges are on the right, then they are right-handed, and if they are on the left, then they are left-handed.

As for choosing the number of loops, you should proceed from the weight of the fabric. For a regular double-leaf interior door, two hinges for each leaf are sufficient. For a single leaf, since it will be wider than each of the double leaf panels, and therefore heavier, it is better to purchase three hinges. Entrance door also attached to three or even four hinges.

When buying hinges, be sure to try to open them: a defect in the form of a bent rod is not that uncommon.

When choosing, try to match the color of the hinges with the rest of the fittings - handles, lock, etc. The same applies to screws - then they will be less noticeable on the canopy. It is better to replace the screws with self-tapping screws, then there will be no need to drill holes for them.

In order to hang the door on its hinges, you will need tools: a plumb line, or even better, a level, a drill with a speed controller or a screwdriver, a chisel, a hammer, a tape measure and a carpenter's pencil.

The hinges are installed at a distance of 20 cm from the top edge and 20 or 30 cm from the bottom edge of the canvas. If there is a third loop, then it is attached strictly in the middle between the top and bottom. If you need to install the canvas on four loops, there is nothing simpler - the entire height is divided by 5, and loops are attached at the marking points.

Only the upper parts of the hinges are installed on the door leaves. The lower parts, which have rods, are attached to the box.

The loop is applied to the end of the canvas at the required distance from its edge, aligned with a level and outlined with a pencil. Using a chisel, remove the top layer of the outlined area. Its depth should be equal to the thickness of the hinge canopy.

Then, using a drill at low speed or a screwdriver, the part is attached with self-tapping screws to the door leaf. If ordinary screws are used, then holes are first drilled for them.

The diameter of the drill should be 0.5 mm thinner than the diameter of the screw, then the screw will fit tightly into the hole and the fastening will be reliable.

The door is installed in the frame, then opened slightly, its lower part is inserted into one of the canopies so that it is close to the frame, and then outlined with a pencil. This is done with all loops. After this, the canvas can be removed.

In the circled areas, the top layer of wood is removed in the same way as was done with the door leaf and the lower parts are attached to these recesses. In this case, you need to ensure that the hinge rods are positioned strictly horizontally, otherwise the opening process will be difficult.

The order of work can be changed slightly and first strengthen the lower hinge canopies on the box, and then the upper ones on the canvas.

By placing the door leaf perpendicular (at an angle of 90°) to the frame and slightly above it, you can connect the parts of the hinge by putting the upper parts on the lower rods, and connecting the hinges on the leaf and on the frame.

If a squeak occurs when moving, the hinges must be lubricated with machine oil, technical petroleum jelly or grease. If the hinges are cut too deeply, the situation can be corrected by placing a rubber, hardboard or thick cardboard gasket under the hinge.

It often happens that the door leaf is too low and scratches the floor when closing or opening. It can be raised slightly by placing a washer between the hinge hinges.

Sometimes in the places intended for cutting hinges, there are wood defects such as knots. In such cases, the loop should be moved a little, which should be taken into account when placing other loops.

What to do if the screw is stuck and cannot be removed? Such a screw is drilled with a drill and a wooden dowel coated with PVA glue is inserted into the hole. After the glue has dried, another screw can be screwed directly into the dowel.

After watching this video, you are guaranteed to cope with the task of hanging doors.

If you know how to work with tools, then installing a door will not be difficult for you. Accuracy, meticulousness and accuracy are the keys to success when hanging a door. By doing the work yourself, you can save 50% of the cost of the door leaf! In this article we will tell you how to hang doors yourself.

So, to install a door into an opening you will need the following tools:

  1. Screwdriver.
  2. Miter box.
  3. Level.
  4. Polyurethane foam.
  5. Hammer.
  6. Wood saw.
  7. Chisel.
  8. Set anchor bolts and self-tapping screws.

Stages of work

First of all, start assembling the door frame. Cut the side posts and top crossbar to suit the size of the canvas. If you leave a gap of 5 mm, you can prevent the door from rubbing against the frame and jamming. Using self-tapping screws, fasten the structural parts together.

Now you can start installing the hinges. First of all, cut them into the door leaf at a distance of 20 cm from the top and bottom edges. If the door you purchased is heavy, then install a third hinge. It should be fixed 20 cm below the top loop.

To make a recess for the hinge, attach it to the end of the door and trace along the contour.

Now work with a chisel, and the depth of the notch should exactly match the thickness of the loop.

Do the same operation with door frame. To determine the location of the recesses on the box, you need to attach a canvas to it. Secure the hinges with self-tapping screws.

Note! To avoid splitting the canvas, pre-drill mounting holes for self-tapping screws.

Note! Be careful, because the loops must be positioned very precisely!

After assembling the box, proceed to installing it and securing it in the opening. Remove the remaining plaster and cement that remains after dismantling the unusable door. At this stage, be extremely careful, because the service life will depend on how you install the box new door. Even the smallest mistake will lead to the door jamming and rubbing against the frame, and this is fraught with unpleasant consequences.

After you have inserted the box into the opening, you need to accurately level it using a level, and it is important to do this in both planes. Moreover, you must ensure correct installation by measuring the sections between the side posts near the hinges. The indicated distances must correspond exactly to each other. To secure the structure, drive wooden wedges into the resulting cracks in the corners.

Now drill the mounting holes. Using anchor bolts, secure the box in the opening. To mask the resulting holes in the structure, you can use decorative plugs. This way you can maintain the aesthetically attractive appearance of the door. If possible, make holes for the anchor bolts under the hinges, where they will remain invisible.

We hang the door leaf and cut in the latch

If you have correctly cut and assembled the box, cut in the hinges and installed the structure, then hanging the canvas will not take you much time. To do this, you just need to put the fabric on the loops. Now you should make sure that the door opens and closes smoothly, without squeaking or friction. In addition, you need to make sure that the hinged door does not open or close spontaneously. If this happens, it means that when installing the box you were allowed serious mistakes that need to be addressed immediately. Most often the cause of all troubles is uneven installation boxes.

Once you have installed the door correctly, proceed to install the latch and handle. To do this, you will need specially designed drill attachments, with which you can cut a hole of the required parameters. After you install the lock, make sure that the door clearly performs its functions. And then proceed to install the strike plate under the latch.

Cutting and screwing the trims

Of course, the box will not fit into the opening with millimeter precision, so the resulting gaps should be foamed using polyurethane foam. Some experts advise first installing paper or cardboard spacers between the plane of the frame and the end of the door. This, they believe, will prevent deformation and compression of the structure. The door cannot be opened until the foam hardens! And this process takes approximately 10-12 hours. Then cut off the protruding foam residues and remove the wedges that temporarily kept the box from tilting.

At the very last resort install the platbands, and to do this, take measurements, do it with all care! At the joints, cut these parts at an angle of 45°. A miter box or miter saw will help you with this. By the way, with a saw you can cut a corner faster and much more accurately. After this, nail the trim to the frame using so-called finishing nails.
