In conditions farms with an impressive livestock livestock or poultry, a feed cutter seems to be an indispensable unit. It is quite possible to make such a device with your own hands, which will significantly simplify the procedure for preparing feed, as well as reduce costs.

Planning to simplify the care of their pets, many farmers prefer to purchase special household grinders that allow them to process an impressive amount of raw materials into feed. the desired faction. At the same time, their cost is quite high, which is why many make the units themselves.

The simplest vegetable cutter can be made with your own hands in a short time, and its assembly will require a minimal amount of material. In terms of its performance indicators and functionality, it will not differ from purchased analogues, but its cost will be significantly lower.

You can make a feed cutter yourself

There are several varieties homemade units, among which it is worth mentioning:

  • manual feed cutter for root crops;
  • model from an angle grinder;
  • drill device;
  • device made from a barrel/gas cylinder;
  • craft from washing machine.

It must be remembered that a homemade device may not withstand the loads of intensive use, which is why it is recommended to operate the unit intermittently.

How the device works

Before you figure out how to make a feed chopper from a washing machine or other variations of a similar device, you should study the principle of its operation and the main design elements. To the number the most important nodes any model of homemade or purchased cutting includes:

  • bunker - designed for storing processed raw materials;
  • working chamber - used for grinding grain and root crops to the desired fraction;
  • motor - responsible for rotating the knives;
  • output hopper - used for feeding finished products.

If desired, the design can be changed by the master towards simplification, which will reduce the list necessary materials. For example, it is possible to supply feed directly into the chamber, eliminating the use of the input hopper.

The operating principle of the unit is extremely simple- the raw material enters the working chamber, where it is crushed by the working bodies until the desired state. It is then fed into the output hopper, after which it is used to feed livestock and poultry.

Electric feed cutter from a washing machine

If a craftsman is interested in a do-it-yourself feed crusher, he should pay attention to the most efficient and easy-to-use variation of the unit, made from washing machine. In order to successfully create such a product, you will need to adhere to the simplest algorithm of actions:

  1. Remove the motor and drum from the washing machine.
  2. Drill a hole in the back of the drum so that it is sized to match the motor shaft. You will also need to make holes for fasteners.
  3. In one of the walls you will need to implement an output for the finished product using metal part, which will need to be secured to the drum.
  4. Make cutting elements - the first resembles a propeller, is mounted closer to the bottom of the working chamber, and the second is on top.

Grinder root vegetable grinder

Homemade units can be made from various devices, for example, from a grinder saw. To do this, you will need to select a suitable tank for the working chamber, and then perform the following steps:

  1. Install a raw material receiver, which can be made from sheet metal.
  2. A hole is cut in the central part of the body corresponding to the gearbox shaft of the angle grinder.
  3. Make a knife using stainless steel and sharpen it.
  4. Install it inside the body, attach the angle grinder shaft.

In order to avoid mistakes when constructing the device, it may be convenient to use video instructions. This model electric, like the unit from a washing machine, which requires electricity for correct operation.

Manual chopping for vegetables

If in the process of agricultural activity there is a need to prepare a small amount of food for several pets, you can make a simple cut for vegetables manual type. Its operating principle is similar to a grater, but the productivity is significantly higher. This option is perfect in cases where the farm does not have access to a source of electricity.

A feed cutter is a necessary thing in a household. You can buy it ready-made, or you can make it yourself. It’s easier to buy something, but you don’t always have the means. Moreover, if you have a suitable electric motor, then a homemade feed cutter will cost you several times cheaper than a purchased one. Feed cutter designs are also different. A description of a simple and reliable electric feed cutter with a productivity of about 150 kg, with good quality grinding various raw materials. Tested in operation over many years - only positive reviews.

Design and technical description

Rice. 1. Homemade feed cutter:
1 - wooden board; 2 - ejection chamber; 3, 9 - studs; 4 - front cover;
5 - ejection blade; 6 - scoring plate; 7, 11 - bolts; 8 - feed chamber;
10 - knife; 12 - feed cutter body; 13 - knife plate; 14 - M10x1 screw securing the bushing;
15 - bushing; 16 - back cover; 17 - electric motor.

The device is powered by a suitable electric motor (Fig. 1). For a single-phase electric motor (you can also use a 3-phase one with the appropriate capacitors), you need to make a sleeve 15. A plate 13 is welded to it, two ejection legs 5 are welded to the plate, which push out the product - the crushed mass, and their short ends serve as a stop. cutting knife. The cutting knife 10 is attached to plate 13 with two bolts. These bolts must be with countersunk heads so that they do not protrude from the plane of the knife. This all makes up one unit, mounted on the shaft of the electric motor, with which it rotates. The bushing is secured by screw 14 so that it does not move on the shaft.

Building 12 homemade feed cutter It is a steel pipe with a diameter of 300 mm, in which a window is cut to remove the crushed mass.
Two studs 3 must be welded to the body to secure the front cover. Corners with holes are welded to the sides of the outlet chamber, through which the body is bolted to a 40 mm board. An electric motor is attached to the same board.

The case has two removable covers; front 4 and rear 16, the rear has two holes: one in the center, the second offset, it is drilled opposite bolt 11 and is used to unscrew the nuts securing the knife. In the front cover 4 do square hole for supplying feed mass. TO inside of this cover, a cutting plate 6 is attached opposite the hole. The hole is shifted from the center to the left side. Opposite him with outside cover 4, a square tapering feed chamber 8 is attached to feed the mass into the feed cutter. Plates with holes for attaching it to the body are welded to the front and rear covers.

Assembling the feed cutter

A hole is made in the board intended for installing the feed cutter for the passage of the finished chopped mass. The housing 12 with the back cover 16 is installed on this hole and bolted to the board. The electric motor shaft is inserted into the central hole of the back cover. Next, the cutting apparatus assembly is installed, this is a bushing with a plate welded to it and installed knife, onto the shaft of your electric motor until it stops and fasten it with a locking screw 14. After that, attach the front cover with the scoring plate 6 to the studs. Next, set the required gap of 1 mm between the scoring plate 6 and the cutting knife 10, bringing the electric motor with the cutting device closer to the scoring plate or removing from her. In this position, the electric motor is attached to the board, and the feed chamber 8 is attached to the front cover.

Startup and operating principle

Turn on the electric motor and begin feeding the green mass into chamber 8. The rotating knife cuts, the blades pick up the crushed mass and throw it out through the ejection (output) chamber. The raw material is served so that it is cut across the stems. Capacity 150 kg. The feed cutter shreds any grass well, even timothy, if you reduce the gap between the cutting plate and the cutting blade to 0.5 - 0.1 mm.

Homemade feed cutter It perfectly chops not only grass, but also various root vegetables. Large nodo root vegetables must first be chopped or cut into smaller pieces so that they pass through the feeding chamber. If anyone decides to make a unit only for root vegetables, let them increase the feeding chamber - that’s enough.

If necessary, productivity can be doubled. You just need to install a cross-shaped knife or an electric motor with a rotation speed of 2800 rpm, and if it is four times, then install both a cross-shaped knife and an electric motor with a rotation speed of 2800 rpm.

And another homemade feed cutter scheme

The design of this electric feed cutter also extremely simple. The working container is a large metal tank - ready-made or homemade, purchased or any available on the farm. When self-made you will need a 0.8-1 mm sheet of galvanized iron. In the figure, only the diameter is specified; the height of the workpiece can be selected within the range of 350-600 mm. Since the material is thin, to increase the rigidity of the structure, the upper edges of the barrel must be beaded and edged with a rubber tube cut lengthwise. At the bottom, a steel bottom made of a sheet 4-5 mm thick is welded or installed with screws. Pre-drill holes in the bottom for the motor shaft and mounting to the stand. It is better to use a single-phase electric motor (for example, from an old washing machine), but you can, as in the previous case, use a 3-phase one with a power of 1-1.5 kW at 1400 rpm, with corresponding scheme electrical connections to 220V using a capacitor bank or powerful resistance wire.

1 - protective cover; 2 - tank; 3 - lock nut;
4 - base; 5 - knives; 6 - stand; 7 - electric motor; 8 - hub.

Cut a hole for discarding crushed food at the junction of the bottom and side wall, as shown in the figure. Hang the box-shaped tray below on hinges. Four inclined legs steel pipes weld to the bottom of the tank and to the support slides bent from pipe sections.

Now about the feed cutter knives. There are two of them, they are made from an old two-handed saw blade or a heated steel strip 0.8-1 mm thick. The lower knife has no sharp edges and is curved like a propeller. Its main purpose is to throw uncut stems onto the upper knife and sweep the green mass into the outlet window of the bunker. The working knife has sharply sharpened cutting edges, the ends of which are better bent down a little - this way they cut better. Assembling the knife will not be difficult if you lathe make hub parts from steel blanks. It, together with a parallel key, is put on the electric motor shaft.

Launch and working principle. Turn on the engine and close the throttle. Root vegetables, grass or stems are thrown in small portions into the inlet hole in the lid. The rotating knives will quickly turn them into a homogeneous green mass. The degree of grinding depends on the time it is in the hopper: the longer, the finer it is. On average, 5-6 seconds are enough for this. Large root vegetables will require 3-5 times more time. At the end of the work, open the damper and, with the engine running, release the green mass from the outlet.
To provide safe work Place a conical lid with a hole on top of the hopper. Galvanized is best roofing iron. To avoid cutting yourself, the sharp edges of the lid must be rolled or put on a rubber tube.

In an hour, such a do-it-yourself feed cutter can prepare from 80 to 150 kg of feed. Productivity depends on the power of the electric motor and the quality of grinding of raw materials.
Good luck, do it yourself and enjoy the result of your labor.

IN agriculture Having available tools is very necessary, since the process of raising livestock or poultry takes a lot of time and causes a lot of trouble. Designs such as a feed cutter will make work easier and make it possible to provide all animals with food on the farm. A large number of animals will not be allowed to make food manually, there is simply not enough time for this, various devices will help to cope with the tasks.

Design and technical description

A mechanical product will require a motor in the design. Applicable single phase motor with a prepared bushing, which is made in the form of an adapter. The emphasis of the cutting knife is created by the legs, which are fixed to the plate through an adapter; their purpose is to release the finished product from the container. The blade mount of a DIY feed chopper should be recessed into the design for a more consistent product output.

Making a body with your own hands requires the use of a steel pipe with a diameter of at least 30 cm, with a pre-prepared hole for the feed to exit. The structure is fastened to a support or wooden board, to which they are attached metal corners or studs. The feed cutter drum is secured by welded joint to the corners, just like the engine.

The housing has a front cover through which feed is loaded. The back cover serves as access to the cutting element and has a hole designed for unscrewing the bolt securing the knives. The front cover is complemented by a feed supply structure made of metal plate. The body is secured with metal plates around the perimeter by welding.

Principle of operation

When the electric motor starts, the mass for grinding is fed into the loading hole with your own hands. The knives rotate at low speed, cutting the product into the required pieces, the blades remove the finished mass to the outlet. Adjusting the gap between cutting edges and the plate can achieve cutting quality and process various raw materials. The harvested feed is fed against the location of the stems to increase speed and also to prevent clogging of the structure.

For increased productivity, the knives are installed in a cross-shape. If necessary, an electric motor with a power of 3000 rpm is installed. Drawings of a homemade feed chopper will help you calculate the productivity and degree of cutting of raw materials.

Advantages of do-it-yourself feed choppers

The main advantages of a homemade feed cutter is that it can be adapted to meet the necessary needs. Homemade design can be made from improvised materials available on the farm.

Making the simplest feed cutter involves having a tin bucket made of of stainless steel, more complex designs made from an old washing machine.

Using a grinder or a high-speed drill in feed cutting also provides the possibility of cutting grass varieties of feed. All designs and accessories of a self-made feed cutter are made according to drawings.

Types of Shredders

There are different types of feed for livestock and poultry, succulent types of feed, grain and grass varieties. Each design implies manufacturing for convenient use and the production of a high-quality product.

A variety of designs makes it possible to use the device in various fields. We produce manual feed cutters with a track mechanism, straw cutters, as well as hand mills. Do-it-yourself mechanized feed cutters are, in most cases, equipped with electric motors for maximum productivity in household or industrial settings. Exist universal devices, capable of grinding different kinds feed by replacing the cutting element.

Juicy feed chopper

Juicy feed is crushed using a grater with large notches. When the process requires mechanization, an electric motor is used, to which a bucket and grater are attached. The feed cutter is manufactured in accordance with a pre-prepared drawing, the bucket is reinforced by welded strips at the edging, with a width of 1 cm. Holes for the buddy are made across the entire area of the bucket in the desired order.

To make the frame, a small table is used, which is installed a few centimeters below the rear part. Filling with food uses a homemade box, which is installed at an angle of up to 40⁰ relative to the main container. At the very bottom there is a tray for collecting finished products. The low-speed engine drives the chopper, which is located as close to the walls as possible for better grinding.

Cereal grinder

Grain crops are processed using a universal type of feed cutter. The main difference is the use of a different type of cutting element and engine speed. The presence of a mesh in the design allows you to regulate the degree of grinding of grain crops, throughput controlled by opening the door. For a reliable slave, a single-phase two-speed motor with a maximum speed of up to 3000 per minute is used.

The size of the finished raw material can be adjusted with your own hands by installing a sieve various types. Ground grain or other materials may be passed through the machine several times to achieve the desired result.

Grass chopper

The design features do not differ from the above examples, however, special parameters are observed. The container for the shredder is selected with your own hands depending on the volume of work; the shape must correspond to the cylinder. Rectangular hole manufactured in the lower part, adapted for the ejection of finished products through a box fastened with rivets.

The power of the feed cutter engine is selected depending on the selected container, the main criterion is the number of revolutions, it should be maintained at 3 thousand/min. Cutting element made from available stainless steel products.

Feed cutter grater

The most common method of processing raw materials in the household is a feed cutter from a grater. A homemade feed cutter of this kind allows you to produce ready-made feed for a small amount household. Making a structure with your own hands is not difficult; drawings may not be needed at all. Some basic elements for making the case:

  1. Stainless steel sheet, a 30x50 piece will do.
  2. Plate connecting elements.
  3. The lever with which the rotation will occur.
  4. Table top for mounting.

Making a manual feed cutter with your own hands is quite easy; you need to follow the correct sequence of steps. The lid holes are cut out required diameter for quality cutting. The manufacturing process will not take much time if you have the accompanying materials and tools.

Grinder feed cutter

For increased productivity The tool requires more serious parts. Bulgarian is suitable for the role electric drive for a self-made feed cutter. The container is selected carefully and must be made of thick steel. A stainless steel tin bucket is suitable for the work. Holes of just over a centimeter are made in the walls, and the edges are folded for a cutting effect.

The frame is constructed from metal corners. To connect to the feed cutter body, you need to punch a hole in the bottom of the bucket. The resulting structure will serve as a drum; the collection container is made of a larger diameter bucket or sheet steel. The grinder is bolted to the inner bucket and rotates it to obtain the finished product.

The vertical arrangement allows the workpieces to be pressed under their own weight during processing. Adjusting the speed of the grinder in the feed cutter with your own hands makes it possible to influence both the quality and the speed of grinding. To preserve the mass of raw materials inside the drum, it is necessary to close the opening for loading feed.

Feed cutter from washing machine

An old washing machine can be used around the house. Pre-prepared drawings will tell you how to make a feed cutter from a washing machine. The main elements are the drum, housing and engine.

A hole with a diameter corresponding to the shaft drive is drilled in the drum body. Mounting bolts are installed in four places to secure the drum. To throw out the food, a hole is cut in the wall. The electric motor is fastened with bolts, which also serve as a connection for knives made by hand. The primary knife is made with a rounded edge to eject feed from the bottom of the drum. The next knife is sharpened from the blade of an unused hacksaw.

Preservation of feed inside the structure is achieved through a lid that is mounted on hinges. At the exit, a self-made container is installed, adapted to collect the finished mass. The productivity of this design can reach up to 100 kilograms per hour; the installation can be used for juicy grinding and herbs.

Making a feed cutting tool with your own hands will not take a lot of effort and money. Ready solutions They are sold in specialized stores, but their prices are high due to the new parts installed. A DIY product can last quite a long time. different needs and farming needs.

Do-it-yourself feed cutting is an additional income in subsidiary plot, good mood and cost savings. After all, to make it you will need the most common available materials that can be found in every yard of a village house.

A self-made feed cutter will serve for a long time and will bring great profit when purchasing feed. With its help, you can chop substandard potatoes, beets and carrots brought from nearby farms.

To make a feed cutter with your own hands, prepare the following material:

  • A tank with a capacity of three to four buckets for making a feed cutter body;
  • Steel plate for a knife. (5 cm wide, 2 mm thick, long = 2/3 of the tank diameter);
  • Electric motor (suitable from an old washing machine);
  • An axis for transmitting torque from the electric motor to the knife;
  • One bearing and metal corners for fastening mechanisms.

In this article I will tell you how to make a feed cutter yourself from scrap materials, so the sizes of the component parts will depend on what is at hand.

We make the body of the feed cutter from an iron tank by cutting holes in the bottom for the exit of the finished product, as shown in the figure below.

The narrower the holes you cut, the better the feed will be crushed.

A knife for a feed cutter must be made of durable metal so that it does not tear due to centripetal acceleration during operation. If you don’t have such material at hand, but you need to make a knife, sharpen the ends with a triangle, lightening the weight at the edges. This approach will increase the safety of the structure, but will weaken the inertia, which will have a bad effect on the operation of the structure if it is equipped with a weak electric motor.

To make a feed cutter knife:

  • Cut a piece of metal plate at least two millimeters thick, suitable in size for the previously made case;
  • Sharpen it in the right places;
  • Mark the center as accurately as possible;
  • Drill a hole for the fourteen bolt;
  • Secure the bolt into the knife with a nut;
  • Calibrate the width of the bushing (thread) using a washer to fit seat.
  • We weld the bolt head to the axis that transmits torque from the motor to the knife.

On the side of the body, we weld a bearing or bushing, which will act as a seat for the end of the axle (calibrated in size above the bushing/thread).

Instead of a washer, it is better to use a small bearing or a thicker bushing (I wore it out after two hundred buckets of potatoes, and I replaced it with three).

When assembling the feed cutter, be sure to leave a gap in the places where the electric motor is mounted so that it can move around a little. Since you will not be able to make a perfectly straight shaft and your unit will vibrate when the motor rotates, which means a rigid mount will lead to failure.

DIY electric feed cutter

For our feed cutter we will use an electric motor from an old washing machine, having obtained it, do not forget to get a capacitor or a special switch that activates the starting winding during start-up (without this, you will not be able to start the installation).

Connection diagram for the motor in an electric feed cutter.

The starting winding gives a starting impulse to the electric motor and then turns off (the capacitor charges and stops transmitting electricity), and the motor continues to spin thanks to the working winding.

Instead of a capacitor, it is possible to use a switch in the form of a normally open contact button, which is pressed for a couple of seconds and then released.

This is a photo of the simplest feed cutter that I made in a couple of hours from scrap materials without spending a penny of money.

At the time of writing this article, the feed cutter worked for two months, grinding 7 - 8 buckets of vegetables a day without a single breakdown, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me.

Keeping livestock requires proper care of it, which includes regular cleaning of the places where they are kept, as well as proper nutrition. After all, not only the health of animals, but also their productivity depends on the quality of feed. Purchasing ready-made feed can cost a pretty penny, so optimal solution There will be a purchase of a grain crusher, a feed cutter and a grass cutter in one device.

Grain crusher, feed cutter and grass cutter in one device

A grain crusher, feed cutter and grass cutter in one device is a fairly multifunctional device that allows you to process a wide variety of raw materials. The design of such a device allows you to grind grain, corn, barley, as well as chop grass, root crops and vegetables.

Depending on what kind of raw material is crushed, the performance indicator will be different. As a rule, chopping the grass takes longer, so the productivity will be slightly lower.

It has been scientifically proven that crushed feed is better absorbed in the body of animals, significantly increasing their productivity.

Ready-made feed chopper options

On Russian market there are quite a lot of agricultural products various options similar devices, combining several purposes at once. Let's look at the most popular devices, including a grass cutter, a feed cutter and a grain crusher.

How to make an electric feed vegetable cutter with your own hands

A do-it-yourself grain crusher, feed cutter and grass cutter can be practically in no way inferior to ready-made store-bought options. The main condition in self-assembly is the presence of a fairly powerful engine with which the device would function.

It is not surprising that craftsmen have learned to adapt grinders and washing machines for grinding various raw materials, through minor alterations in the design. Let's look at both methods in more detail.

Making from a grinder

The grinder is an integral part of any farm, especially in rural areas. If there is more than one such tool, then one of them can be adapted for a feed chopper.

The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • First we need a sheet of fairly durable plywood. This material will act as the base of the unit on which other working units will be installed.
  • In our plywood we need to make two through holes, fix the grinder in one of them, and in the second - a reservoir for raw materials.
  • The grinder is attached to the plywood using bolts and metal brackets. Next, you need to make a knife that will stand in place of the grinder disk. This knife must be double-edged.
  • You need to attach some kind of mesh to the bottom of the plywood to sift through the recycled material. For this purpose, a colander or an old saucepan is suitable, in the bottom of which you need to drill many holes.
  • A 5-liter plastic bottle can be used as a reservoir for raw materials.

In principle, this is all manufacturing work homemade device. As we can see, manufacturing costs are minimal.

Making from a washing machine

The design of the washing machine is very suitable for turning it into a feed chopper, combining the functions of a grass cutter and a grain crusher. This applies to older models of top-loading washing machines.

The work process will be as follows:

  • The design of the washing machine must be equipped with an additional motor, which must be attached at the top, under the lid itself. It is installed on metal corners using bolts.
  • We make a double-edged knife of such a size that its edges do not touch the walls of the washing machine.
  • The second such knife must be installed below, where the factory motor of the washing machine is located. At the same time, both knives should rotate in different directions so that the grinding quality is better.
  • It is necessary to make a hole in the top cover of the washing machine through which you can pour material for recycling. You also need to provide some kind of funnel so that grain and other raw materials do not spill.
  • You also need to cut a hole at the bottom of the washing machine so that the recycled material can spill out.

This unit will work on the principle of a coffee grinder. We do not publish specific drawings, because there are quite a lot of washing machines, each with its own specific design, etc.

Here it is important to understand the very principle of operation of such a device, after which it can be very easily put into practice.

Conclusion

Multifunctional devices have always had special value.

In the agricultural sector, this can be seen more clearly, because there are quite a lot of specific jobs in this area, and it’s good when there is a device that can simultaneously cope with several at once.

Devices that combine the functions of a grass cutter, grain crusher () and feed cutter are among such devices. They have a fairly simple design and intuitive operating principle, which makes it possible to make them yourself.

At the same time, the costs are minimal, which is an additional advantage.
