After calling our company, the Customer invited us to take measurements and prepare an estimate at his business class cottage community “Antonovka”. I arrived at the site and received an assignment from the Customer - to make light ones that stand independently (not attached to the veranda), but also combine with glassed veranda visors from monolithic polycarbonate over the porch.

We took the dimensions of the porch (HxLxW), partially the dimensions of the glazed veranda (roof height, level of aluminum lintels, door dimensions, etc.). Having drawn with a pen what the Customer would like to see, it turned out that the price for 1 visor (turnkey) is about 80,000 rubles (design work, production of metal structures, concreting of canopy posts, delivery and installation of the canopy itself and the roof made of monolithic polycarbonate 5-6mm (bronze)). We were happy with the cost of the canopy over the porch and we agreed that we would send sketches of future canopies with dimensions and adjust the price. Having received an advance payment, we went to prepare sketches and projects.

After 2-3 days, sketches with dimensions were ready. We sent them to email The customer and having received a positive response began work. Manufacturing took 5-7 days and installation 2-3 days. The main difficulty in the calculations was that the metal structure and the roof of the canopy should not touch the glazed veranda, but at the same time block the porch itself from precipitation and snow. Judging by the photo of the canopy over the porch, the task was completed and the Customer was satisfied.

“You are greeted by their clothes” - this proverb applies to both people and buildings. The appearance of the facade determines the mood with which we open the door. Even without crossing the threshold, you can say a lot about the owner of the premises: a practical person and a reputable organization are revealed by details, for example, a canopy over the porch. Someone will consider this a trifle, unworthy of attention, and will be mistaken.

A canopy over the porch is necessary; it will protect from precipitation and decorate the central entrance; you can wait under it for a taxi or open an umbrella in bad weather; it is a sign of attention to the needs of clients or your loved ones.

Canopies over the porch made of polycarbonate: practical, beautiful, solid.

Monolithic and cellular polycarbonate has recently replaced the usual materials for the construction of all kinds of canopies and canopies and has become everyone’s favorite.

  • This thermoplastic material is highly durable and can withstand heavy loads.
  • It is unusually light (16 times lighter than glass) and flexible, and can take on the most intricate shapes.
  • Transmits light quite well, but delays it ultra-violet rays, creates a pleasant partial shade.
  • Translucent panels tolerate temperature changes absolutely painlessly and feel great in the range from – 40°C to +120°C.
  • A wide palette of colors allows you to choose harmonious solution for your office or home.

We offer canopies over the porch (photo) of the most different forms and designs: straight, single-pitched, single-pitched with a valance, arched, in the form of a dome or awning. This variety allows you to choose an option that will most organically fit into the architectural appearance of any building, complement it, and allow you to preserve its flavor.

“The river begins with a blue stream,” and the entrance to the house begins with the porch and canopy above it. This is a kind of calling card for every home owner. Canopy over the porch, photo examples good decisions look in the galleries, it carries not only a huge aesthetic load, decorating the facade of the house, but also performs a lot of practical functions, the main one of which is to protect the street extension from precipitation, making the entrance to the house more comfortable.

In this article we will look at what options for awnings over the porch there are, what materials are used for construction, and consider the most successful, beautiful and almost universal design solutions for such extensions. And of course we will focus on how to correctly calculate the size of the canopy for the porch, what parameters need to be taken into account when designing, and how to make a canopy over the porch with your own hands.

Design features of canopies, roofs and canopies

Visor support

Depending on the method of supporting the extension, the roof can be supported by vertical pillars, or hang on special brackets on the wall of the house. The location of the support points depends mainly on the condition of the load-bearing wall, the dimensions and materials for the canopy. Also an important role for the species supporting structure The design of the porch with a canopy plays a role, the photos demonstrate this well. Thus, the canopy can be attached to the house and be part of the building, or it can be an independent structure, with its own foundation and supports. In principle, the supports for the canopy can be placed on the upper platform of the porch, fastening the structure with anchors, or you can dig separate holes and cement the pillars, having previously arranged a gravel-sand cushion.

Supports for visors are made from different materials, the simplest and lightest, of course, are made of wood, but they require pre-treatment with an antiseptic and a fireproof compound. It is unlikely that anything can compare with the beauty of wood, and the possibilities of modern cutting allow you to purchase beautiful openwork elements at a very reasonable price; the aesthetic effect of such decor completely compensates for all costs.

As a basis for the visor, let’s take an independent wooden extension above the front door, on pillar supports, with a pitched roof, a kind of hut-veranda on chicken legs.

This is interesting: Do you know why huts in fairy tales are built on chicken legs? In fact, even in ancient times, people noticed that after fires, in swampy areas, the remains of trees coniferous species stand as skeletons for centuries, do not rot, do not deteriorate. The people at that time were savvy, and immediately understood what was going on. It turns out that if a pine log is smoked in thick smoke over coals, then the resin forms a durable protective layer, the wood becomes practically invulnerable, nothing is afraid of it: neither water, nor microorganisms, nor rot can attack it. Therefore, during construction, the columnar foundation was made from such smoked logs, and houses stood on such a foundation for more than a century. It was only later, in fairy tales, that they came up with the idea of drawing emotional, running huts on giant chicken legs.

First you need to transfer the drawings of the canopy to the area, carefully measure the dimensions, hammer pegs around the perimeter, upper layer soil. To add a canopy measuring 2*1 m, 2.2 m high, you will need 2 log posts, 2.5 m long, and 2 2.7 m long, treated with antifungal antiseptics, water-repellent and fire protective compounds. Those parts of the supports that will be dug into the ground must be smoked or coated with mastic.

To install vertical supports, holes 0.7 m deep are dug in the corners, a layer of 200 mm of sand is poured onto the bottom, a layer of crushed stone of 200 mm is poured onto it, everything is compacted. Concrete is mixed, a little solution is poured to the bottom, a pillar is installed, leveled, strictly vertically, it is advisable to make struts to fix the pillars in this position, the concrete mixture is added so that the hole is completely filled. After 7 days, when the concrete has set, the supports are cut down to the required level, we remind you that minimum height the canopy should be 2.2 m.

Next, the beams are used to tie the poles around the perimeter; be sure to check the geometry of the perimeter so that the logs do not fall to the sides. The pillars at the facade are attached to load-bearing wall main structure using anchors or metal corners, so we tie the two constructs together.

The logs on which the rafters are attached are laid on top of the log supports, in increments of 200-300 mm; they are quite suitable for these purposes. wooden blocks With cross section 50*50 mm.

A conical canopy on poles reliably protects the porch from precipitation

Important: In order for the structure to be airtight, the gap between the facade of the house and the extension must be carefully sealed. For this, a strip of galvanized metal is suitable, which must be bent lengthwise; the part that is adjacent to the house must be recessed into the facade. The strip is coated with liquid bitumen resin and screwed on with self-tapping screws. Polyurethane foam is sometimes used for sealing, but it deteriorates over time from exposure to UV rays and moisture.

But then everything depends on your needs, you can cover the rafters with corrugated sheets, polycarbonate or slate, and at this point the production of a canopy over the porch can be considered complete. But zealous owners understand that such a canopy is not durable, so a layer of waterproofing is placed on the rafter system, it can be roofing felt or a vapor barrier membrane, it is attached to the rafters using sheathing - these can be 20*20 mm slats, and for soft roof It is better to use boards that fit tightly together. Roofing material is laid on the sheathing.

Even a small forged canopy can become a façade decoration

At the end we make a low tide. The gutter is attached parallel to the facade of the building, to the outer edge of the roof, with a slight slope. A chain is fixed at the corner of the drain, along which the water will gently flow to the ground. Next, you can begin finishing the canopy; its design depends on the design and budget for the canopy.

What to make a light visor from?

A polycarbonate canopy over a porch is the easiest option to protect entrance group from precipitation. It looks light and airy, you can make it yourself. Canopies and awnings over the entrance, the photo illustrates this well, are best made from colored, cellular polycarbonate, 10-12 mm thick. Durable material with stiffening ribs will withstand complex mechanical and climatic loads. Before purchasing, try twisting the sheet slightly; if cracks appear, the material is not of high quality. Bend only transversely so that the stiffening ribs are perpendicular to the bend.

The canopy over the porch is often installed on metal carcass. Mensols are sold ready-made, you can also make them yourself from metal, and add serial forged jewelry for beauty. For a polycarbonate canopy with a depth of 1-1.2 m, a bracket with a contact with the wall of 0.6 m and a concave diagonal is sufficient. The sheet is mounted on a special mount with a thermal washer; plugs should be installed at the ends.

How to correctly calculate the size of a porch roof?

According to regulatory regulations, the upper platform must be 1.5 times the width front door(1.2 1.5 m), a convenient porch width of at least 0.8 m. The roof of the porch should extend beyond the dimensions of the steps by 0.2-0.3 m so that water does not flow onto the entrance area.

A porch with a polycarbonate roof, photo below, can be very modest in size, and vice versa, a whole covered complex in front of the house. In order to save money, it is necessary to take into account standard sizes sheet: 6000
2050 mm, you can buy a half - 3000 mm/2050 mm and a quarter - 1500/2050 mm, just enough for a small canopy to protect the upper platform from precipitation. It is recommended to treat the cut edge with a fine abrasive to ensure a better connection between the connecting and end strips. When installing larger structures, do not forget to purchase a joining strip, with which you can seal the joint aesthetically and hermetically. Attach the polycarbonate to the outside only with the UV-resistant side, the marking is indicated on the protective foam.

What should you consider before making a canopy over your porch?

Before making a canopy over the porch, you need to decide on the dimensions and materials for manufacturing. Canopies can be cable-stayed (suspended on the top holders) - small-sized structures made of lightweight materials, cantilever - mounted with the help of embedded parts in the body of the wall, and support - on poles, columns, walls, corner holders abutting the wall. The removal of the struts is at least a third of the removal of the canopy.

When you have decided on the parameters of the canopy, it is necessary to organize a blind area around the porch so that storm water the soil has not been washed away, and if the house is higher than 2 floors, then installation is required drainpipe. For small canopies, the frame is made in the form of holders or a simple frame; for larger canopies, it is recommended to make trusses with additional reinforcement, and with a width of 3.5 meters, a truss rafter system is required. On ridged roofs and in places with high wind loads, additional fastenings for the roofing material are required.

What awnings are in fashion now?

The usual canopy over the porch of a private house is increasingly being replaced by awnings. Essentially, this is a roof made of durable fabric, moisture-resistant, does not fade from UV rays, protects well from precipitation and withstands hail. Stationary awnings have been known since ancient times - awnings over the entrance with a fabric roof.

Of interest are modern retractable systems in which the degree of opening and tilt angle can be adjusted. Awnings are adjusted depending on the intensity of the sun to control the illumination of the room. Awnings are installed not only above the door, but also above the windows. But this is not only a canopy for the house; if you additionally protect the porch with vertical awnings, you will get a closed terrace, which, if necessary, can easily be converted into an open canopy. What if you buy it as a set? vertical racks, which can be installed even in soft ground, you will get a whole gazebo in front of the house.

How to quickly build a canopy with your own hands?

The easiest way to build a canopy over a porch with your own hands is from timber. Making wood products does not require special equipment; a hacksaw and a hammer are enough. Drawings can be made by hand, having previously calculated the size of the extension.

The holders are made in the form of a right triangle, with legs of 0.6 and 0.9 m, the short side is firmly attached to the wall with anchors. The structure is pulled together by transverse bars, the element near the wall is additionally attracted to the house. The wood is treated with protective compounds and painted. The roofing material will be slate and corrugated sheets. You can also purchase ready-made pipe or forged holders on the market, attach them to the wall above the porch, laying a polycarbonate sheet on top.

What roofing material should I choose for a wooden canopy for my house?

The entrance group is a small architectural group that not only performs the practical function of protecting the porch, but also carries an aesthetic load, and must fit harmoniously into the overall architectural ensemble. According to the recommendation of experts, the roof is wooden canopy to the house should be made of the same material with which the main roof is covered - this is ideal. Practical construction shows that a wooden canopy over a porch can be covered with any material that would delicately fit into the exterior. If you are not sure, take samples of the material and select the roof on site.

For example, due to the transparency of polycarbonate, a roof made from it is airy and almost invisible, so this material is universal. A small canopy can be covered with slate or corrugated sheets to match the color of the main roof. Suitable for a large wooden shed attached to a house with supports and a gable roof. soft tiles, it happens the same way different color, so you can choose a similar color.

How to seal the joint between a polycarbonate canopy and a wall?

The canopy over the polycarbonate porch does not ensure a tight fit of the sheet to the wall; to avoid leaks on the facade, it is necessary to seal the joint. On sale you can find a special wall profile, as in the photo. According to reviews, polycarbonate canopies still leak; the profile does not provide a reliable seal.

To cope with the problem, the joint must first be degreased, treated with primer, then filled with colorless silicone sealant and only then the plank must be attached. The sealant can be mixed with mineral insulation and tightly caulk the joint with this mixture. Big gap sealed with facade rubber. Additionally, you should construct an outflow from galvanized steel.

What metal is best to make a canopy from?

A canopy over a metal porch is practical and nice option protect the entrance to the house. The metal frame can withstand any roof. The most beautiful is forged, the most practical is made of stainless steel, it is not subject to corrosion. With your own hands, the frame for small and medium-sized canopies up to 2 m wide should be welded from a reinforced profile with a cross-section of 20 * 20 mm, a wall of 2 mm. For large structures, a corner or pipe 40*40 mm, wall thickness of at least 2 mm.

To reduce weight, you can use a 20*40 profile, but additional drawings and diagrams with calculation of stiffeners will be required. The thickness of the profile is determined by the weight of the roofing material and snow loads. For lightweight materials, such as polycarbonate, you can make more elegant metal canopies, photo. For the Polonso truss, you can use steel, galvanized pipes and aluminum. The calculation of the pipe cross-section and wall thickness in each case is carried out individually, since these criteria depend on the dimensions of the building.

Which rafter system to choose for a canopy?

The design of the rafter system for the canopy depends on the design of the roof of the main house and architectural features façade of knowledge. Most often they arrange one or gable roof so as not to overload the exterior with design excesses. At the dacha or in a private house, it is advisable to build lean-to canopy with your own hands, before making the frame, it is enough to calculate the angle of inclination of the roof. To calculate the structure, cross-section of load-bearing elements, wind load, you should be guided by section 2.01.07-85 SNiP, since with an increase in the steepness of the slopes and an increase in the size of the building, the loads also increase. Average tilt angle pitched roof above the porch 20-25 o.

Depending on the slope, different roofing materials. For roll tiles, 5° is acceptable; metal tiles are placed on a slope with a slope of less than 30°; in regions with high rainfall, 45°. The corrugated sheet can be laid on the roof with a slope of 9-20 degrees.

What types of sheds are metal tiles suitable for?

A canopy over a porch made of metal tiles is suitable for all types of roofing of the main house. Metal tiles come in different colors, so choose desired shade won't be difficult. This is a very budget material, lightweight and practical. Due to its low weight, metal tiles create virtually no loads, so the construction of a bulky frame is not required. But the material is very noisy, so extraneous sounds will disturb you during hail and rain.

A canopy made of metal tiles is constructed with your own hands in several stages. Rafter system covered with lathing, slats or moisture resistant plywood. The first sheet is placed with an offset of up to 40 mm, the second with a side overlap, without distortions or gaps. The next row is laid overlapping the previous one by at least 100 mm. For fixation, self-tapping screws with EPDM gasket are used. At the junction of the slopes, seals are installed, on which the ridge strip is fixed.

A canopy over the porch, mounted using polycarbonate sheets, is practical and at the same time stylish solution to protect against all sorts of natural surprises. At the same time, along with purely practical functions, it also plays an important aesthetic role, as one of the elements decorative design building. The photo shows some amazingly beautiful decorative polycarbonate canopies that give a unique look to the entire appearance of the house.

Advantages of protective polycarbonate structures over the porch

Polycarbonate canopies installed above the porch have a number of functions that make them important element the entire structure of the house.

Let's take a closer look at all the stages of making such an external canopy on the porch or entrance doors to the house.

Types of polycarbonate

On modern market building materials, there are several varieties of this polymer that can be used to construct a visor.

Cellular. The most common and popular variety, widely used on the farm. Structurally consists of two thin sheets, connected to each other by longitudinal jumpers. The result is a structure from the inside similar to honeycomb, where its name comes from. The main advantage of cellular polycarbonate is its low cost and practicality in use. The standard dimensions of such sheets can be either 2 x 6 or 2 x 12 m. The thickness of the sheet can range from 4 to 16 mm. Such sheets are painted in the most various colors, which makes them an excellent option for decorative design of the facade of a building.

Monolithic. As the name suggests, such a sheet consists of a solidly molded polymer that does not contain air voids inside. From previous type it is characterized by increased strength and resistance to various mechanical damage. At the same time, in terms of transparency it is practically not inferior to glass. Its only disadvantages are more high price and more complex processing.

Wavy. It is a type of monolithic polycarbonate, characterized by a wavy shape. This makes it even more durable due to the waves, which are stiffening ribs. A visor made from such material can easily serve you for decades. But its cost, unfortunately, is even higher than that of a monolithic polymer.

First stage. Design selection

Making a polycarbonate canopy with your own hands is not such a difficult task - the main thing is to take this matter seriously. First of all, you need to decide on the type of structure. You need to decide whether the visor will be made in the form of metal or wooden structure. A metal frame is much more durable, and with appropriate craftsmanship it looks much more aesthetically pleasing than a wooden one. However, to create a decorative metal frame with your own hands, you will need to put in much more effort.

However, today it is quite possible to order or purchase ready-made metal frame elements of a wide variety of configurations at a hardware store. If you decide to make a metal frame with your own hands, you need, at a minimum, to be qualified as a welder. But if you want to create something extraordinary, for example, in the Baroque or Empire style, then you will need quite a deep knowledge of blacksmithing.

The simplest option is to make a canopy over the porch from wood. Of course, from the point of view of durability and its decorative qualities, this option is inferior to a metal frame. However, with appropriate skill in handling wood, you can make a structure that is quite strong, durable and beautiful.

In the same way, the size and shape of the frame depends only on your aesthetic preferences: whether it will be a small canopy directly above the entrance, or an extensive canopy along the facade of the house.

Second phase. Visor drawing

The next stage is drawing up a drawing future design. To do this, use a tape measure to take all the necessary dimensions of the porch and transfer them to paper in the scale we need. Using this drawing of the porch, we determine the amount of materials we need - polycarbonate, wood or metal. After this, we purchase everything necessary and proceed directly to the manufacture of the visor.

Third stage. Making a frame with your own hands

After this, again based on the drawing, we begin preparatory work to create a visor. First of all, you need to mark and cut the material according to the prepared dimensions. The metal frame is best made from profiled square or rectangular section. You can also use forged ready-made frames - they do not require additional supports and are attached directly to the wall of the house. Another option is a frame, one side attached to the house and the other side supported by support pillars. This design is usually used for fairly large canopy sizes.

Installation of supports

If you have taken on the task of constructing a canopy over the porch with your own hands, then you will need to select the type of installation support pillars. The supports for the canopy over the porch can be made from any material. Will fit wooden poles, metal or asbestos cement pipes. They can be attached either to the surface of the porch or directly mounted on the ground. In the first case, wooden supports can be attached to the porch using anchor bolts. For installation on the porch surface metal poles You will need to weld embedded plates with holes for bolts to the bottom of the pipe, with which they will be secured.

Another option is a structure separate from the porch, resting directly on the ground. To do this, they dig holes 30-50 cm deep, at the bottom of which a gravel cushion 10 cm thick is placed. Then metal or asbestos-cement pipes are installed in them, which are filled with concrete. The canopy frame is mounted on top of the resulting supports using welding or bolts.

Canopy frame

The types of canopies over the porch can be completely different - arched, straight single-pitch or gable. It all depends on the shape of the frame you are going to make. In this case, you need to be guided by both practicality and aesthetics, since the canopy over the porch essentially becomes the “face” of the entire house. In this case, the distance between the rafters should not be made wider than 50 cm. During operation, this is sufficient lightweight material, like cellular polycarbonate, can experience quite heavy loads in the form of snow, which, if too much big step between rafters may cause it to break, crack, or bend. After assembly, both wooden and metal frames must be processed by special means, extending their service life.

Roofing device

The most technologically advanced material when constructing a canopy over a porch with your own hands is cellular polycarbonate - it is quite light and can be easily processed. This material can be cut with almost any tool - an angle grinder, a knife, a jigsaw. At the same time, it does not crack or break. And when installing it on a frame, thanks to its flexibility, it easily accepts the required form. At the same time, critical stresses are not created inside the sheet, which could lead to destruction of the material in winter.

The only thing that is recommended to do when working with cellular polycarbonate is to close its ends with special covers after installing the canopy over the porch. The point is that when high humidity air, especially in autumn and spring, condensation accumulates inside the leaf cavities, which freezes when the temperature drops at night, sometimes tearing the thin bridges that hold the plates together. And this, in turn, can significantly reduce the service life of a polycarbonate roof.

Bottom line

As you can see from all of the above, making a visor with your own hands is not so difficult. The most important thing here is to be able to hold an instrument in your hands, and to have some creative skills. First of all, have a penchant for spatial thinking in order to clearly imagine what protective structure you would like to see above your porch. It is also important to be able to draw up drawings and work with them. Otherwise, it all comes down to patience and skill, without which it is impossible to build with your own hands even such a fairly simple structure as a canopy over a porch.

A canopy over the porch of a private house or at the entrance of a high-rise building is simply necessary. It not only saves a person from the rain while he is looking for the keys to the door, but also protects the concrete area at the entrance from excess moisture. Such a canopy is one of the simplest in its implementation, and therefore can be erected independently, without the involvement of a specialist. And we will help you do it by telling you about some of the features and nuances of installation.

Features of polycarbonate: pros and cons

Polycarbonate sheets are modern material, used not only for roofing, but also for fences, greenhouses and other objects. Polymer plastic has become widespread in both industry and construction. It has properties that enable it to compete with iron and glass. The advantages of using polycarbonate in the construction of canopies over the porch are as follows:

  • fire resistance, polycarbonate does not burn, but at very high temperatures capable of melting;
  • ductility and flexibility, which allows you to create from polycarbonate sheets unusual shapes awnings;
  • impact resistance - the ability of plastic to withstand impacts, the force of such impacts is 20 times higher than that of glass;
  • diversity color range, and it is not the surface of the polycarbonate sheet that is painted, but the entire material during its manufacture, so the color does not lose over time;
  • has a high degree of transparency, allowing sunlight to pass through while blocking ultraviolet rays;
  • Compared to iron and glass, polycarbonate sheets are much lighter;
  • polycarbonate is not affected chemical substances, as well as wind, moisture, hail;
  • polymer plastic is not afraid of temperature changes from -60 0 to +110 0 C.

Polycarbonate is produced in two types: monolithic and cellular. The first one is fireproof and impact resistant, and therefore is more often used in the automotive industry, military industry, construction, etc. Cellular represents multilayer construction, the layers of which are connected by stiffening ribs, forming a cellular structure. The air in the cells provides thermal insulation. This type of polycarbonate is most often used for canopies and awnings. Its standard dimensions are 2.1x6 m and 2.1x12 m with a thickness of 4-16 mm.

Note! You can also make canopies from monolithic polycarbonate, but it will be a little more expensive. The dimensions of the sheets are 2.05x3.05 m with a thickness of 2-12 mm.

Variety of polycarbonate visors

Canopies over polycarbonate porches can have different shape regardless of the size of the entire structure. Both large and small canopies can be:

single-slope and double-slope;

arched;

domed;

wavy;

cascading and unusual.

To make polycarbonate canopy supports, use various materials: wood, aluminum, steel profile or pipes. The material of the canopy frame must be combined with appearance of the building above the entrance of which it is installed. After all, an expensive and elegant canopy in front of the entrance of an old house and a cheap one will look equally ridiculous. simple design in front of a rich and luxurious house.

Wooden supports and frames are undoubtedly the cheapest and easiest to assemble. But the service life of wood is shorter. For a canopy, it is better to take hardwood timber, such as oak or larch, and do not forget to treat it with special impregnations to prevent rotting. Awnings with wooden supports suitable for a house made of timber or logs. Polycarbonate is attached to wood using self-tapping screws and sealed washers.

Aluminum corners and pipes combine perfectly with polycarbonate, do not require painting, but are also expensive. This material bends and cuts easily, so making a canopy is easy. A canopy with aluminum supports will decorate the entrance to glazed veranda or a greenhouse.

The structure of a canopy made from steel corners is the heaviest, and therefore it is quite difficult to make such a canopy yourself. For assembly use anchor bolts or welding. And polycarbonate sheets are attached to self-tapping screws. The frame must be painted.

Have less weight steel pipes, and therefore they are often used in the construction of canopies over the porch. Despite the same cross-sectional area, the pipes are stronger than the angle. The pipe frame should be simple, since bending such material without special equipment is very difficult. The elements are connected by welding.

Canopies made of polycarbonate on kraft metal supports look unusual. Outwardly, it resembles hand-forged openwork elements. To make the frame, square metal tubes are used, which are bent into parts and sold in finished form. They are connected by welding.

Calculation of materials, creation of a drawing

Canopies over polycarbonate porches are not made by eye. First you need to choose the design and shape of the canopy, make a drawing, select necessary materials and tools, and only then begin building the shed. First, let's solve the issue with the drawing of the future product.

For your information! It is best to entrust the preparation of the construction drawing to specialists, but if this is not possible, you will have to carefully calculate everything yourself.

Having chosen the shape of the roof and calculated the dimensions of the structure, we proceed to making a drawing. You are making the drawing for yourself, so you don’t have to follow everything technical regulations and document requirements. However, try not to make mistakes with measurements, location of elements and methods of their fastening. You really don’t want your canopy to collapse on someone’s head because you incorrectly calculated the snow and wind loads.

However, let's return to our project. We managed to make calculations and found out that for the supports of the canopy we planned over the porch, we need to take a square steel profile with a thickness of 2 mm and dimensions of 50x50. You will need 2 pillars with a height of 2730 mm. In addition you need:

  • 3 arched trusses 3300 mm long from an arched square profile 2 mm thick with dimensions 25x25 mm;
  • 2 longitudinal beams 2100 mm long made of square steel profile 40x40x2 mm;
  • 6 beams per run – length 2100 mm, profile 25x25x2 mm;
  • two thrust bearings for supports;
  • for the canopy we will take a sheet of cellular polycarbonate 2.1x6 m, 12 mm thick, from which we will cut a part 3500 mm long;
  • You will also need fasteners for cellular polycarbonate, bolts for attaching supports, an angle and a set of electrodes for electric welding.

Now let's talk about what we will use to carry out work related to the construction of a canopy. The following tools will be required:

  • building level;
  • hand saw;
  • roulette;
  • electric welding;
  • screwdriver;
  • perforator;
  • set of wrenches;
  • marker.

Canopy installation: installation nuances

Before proceeding with the installation of the structural elements of the canopy, they must first be prepared. We cut the profile for the supports according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing, and then weld the thrust bearings to the supports. We cut the longitudinal and purlin beams to size, prepare the tools and you can start working.

  1. We mark the location of the supports on the porch, drill holes in the concrete with a hammer drill, drive in plugs and screw the thrust bearings together with the supports to the porch with long bolts.
  2. We drill holes in the wall at the height of the top edge of the supports and screw the corner.
  3. We lay the longitudinal beam with one end on the top of the support, and the other on the corner and weld it.
  4. Across longitudinal beams we lay arc-shaped trusses with equal spacing. One at the edge of the visor, one towards the middle and one towards the end, and then weld them.
  5. We lay purlins across the trusses with equal spacing and weld them. The frame is ready.

Important! Carry out welding work in compliance with all safety measures, do not forget about this!

  1. Let's move on to installing the roof. We cut a sheet of cellular polycarbonate according to the dimensions indicated in the drawing, lay it on the roof frame, and then screw the sheet with special bolts.

Regarding the fastening of polycarbonate roofing, experts give a number of recommendations that would be a good idea to remember, because for many ordinary people, working with such material is new.

  • When cutting sheets of cellular polycarbonate in the cold in winter, be extremely careful, and it is better to generally transfer such work, if possible, to a warm room, otherwise the material may crack and deteriorate.
  • If you want a cellular polycarbonate roof to last a long time, use a special profile for the ends (plugs) and punched tape.
  • If there is a need to join two sheets of polycarbonate, do not invent anything, use a special split profile.

  • When screwing the sheets to the roof frame, do not overtighten the fasteners. Otherwise, the leaf will burst in this place, and rainwater will ooze through the crack.
  • Cellular polycarbonate a particular type of material is quite elastic, however, it is better to find out its characteristics before you start “ungodly” bending the sheets.

In conclusion, we note that a porch without a canopy creates many dangers for people leaving the building. Therefore, it is best to start building a good polycarbonate porch canopy immediately before something happens. We choose a canopy option from hundreds of options, make a drawing, select everything you need and get to work!

Almost every residential building has a useful and necessary addition above the porch - a canopy. The canopy over the polycarbonate porch becomes especially noticeable during bad weather. It protects the owners from rain and snow while they are looking for the keys to the door.

A polycarbonate canopy increases the service life of the porch itself. The material from which the porch is built will be protected from the destructive power of moisture.

Canopy over the entrance door made of polycarbonate

Before you grab your head and say that you will never do this work, you just need to thoroughly understand everything. First of all we need to consider All possible options polycarbonate canopy, make a drawing of the most suitable one for your home, and indicate its dimensions.

Frame certain size You can make it yourself or order it. If you make the structure yourself, then after welding you need to protect the seams as much as possible from corrosion.

This building material is used everywhere today primarily because which has an affordable price.

If we compare the polymer with others building materials, such as glass, Ondulin, wood or glass, then the polymer will be much less likely to require current repairs. And this is also very important in our life.

The advantages of the material can be added:

If the material has to be cut with a hacksaw or grinder, then this requires a lot of effort. Polycarbonate does not crumble or crack during the process, but this work still needs to be done carefully.

Since the sheets are flexible and elastic, they can easily be bent to the desired radius and placed in pre-prepared grooves.

The design of the canopy is not only rectangular, but also arched. The second option is more common and looks very attractive.

Design selection

The shape and size of the canopy will depend on the shape of the porch and the preferences of the owners. If you take the issue seriously, you need to read a lot of information, look on the Internet detailed master classes. This is the only way to choose the right canopy shape and make the correct calculations.

After reviewing the above information, you can determine the installation method. It can be supporting or suspended.

If we talk about the frame, then it can be made of both metal and wood. Wooden base It will cost less, but it will not last long. Steel structure must be done by an experienced technician using special equipment. This design will have a lot of weight, and to make it smaller, aluminum is used.

By making your choice even in favor of the simplest design, you protect yourself and your loved ones from rain and snow for some time. But what is also important is that you protect your yard, home and porch from precipitation, which will cause harm to any building material.

Project preparation and canopy calculation

Depending on the size of the porch, a canopy is made. It is advisable to make it slightly larger than the size of the porch itself. This is necessary for to prevent moisture from entering and subsequently forming ice on the steps.

If the distance from the house to the gate is small, then you can make a canopy along the entire length of the path. This is a great idea, because in bad weather the path will remain dry, and you can easily get into the house without an umbrella. Despite the bad weather, it will be convenient to just walk on such a path.

A polycarbonate canopy over a porch should perform the following functions:

To make a canopy with your own hands, you need to take the correct measurements. A tape measure is used for this. Taking into account the width and shape of the visor, you need to calculate the required polycarbonate.

To make a purchase, it is advisable to contact any construction supermarket, where you can choose not only the color of the future coating, but also its density and type. If we talk about the types of products, there are cellular and monolithic polycarbonate. Cellular polycarbonate, if you look at it in cross-section, it has hollow cells, so it will be cheaper than a monolithic one, the name of which fully corresponds to its appearance.

The monolithic type is a solid polymer sheet that is characterized by high light transmittance. The material is universal, which is why it is often used instead of glass.

A canopy for the front door can be purchased either ready-made or as a set of materials intended for its construction.

Making a visor with your own hands

If you decide to make a canopy for the front door with your own hands, then you need to prepare following materials and tools:

To fix polycarbonate, you will need special self-tapping screws with thermal washers, which ensure reliable fastening.

Instructions:

The final stage of all work is the removal protective film made of polycarbonate.

Decorative properties of polycarbonate

This material, compared to corrugated sheets, has unique decorative properties. The sheets can have any color and shade; their transparent or translucent structure allows the passage of Sun rays. Despite the fact that the canopy is separate design, it should be harmoniously combined in color not only with the walls, but also with the roofing.

The frame structure can be made unique. To do this, you can use several options:

With the help of polycarbonate you can implement the most interesting design projects. The material is durable, but flexible, so you can use it not only to make an arch, but also a dome or awning. The porch can be made completely closed using this material. To this important decorative element To make the building more attractive, you can use any suitable color.

Working with polycarbonate is easy. Even the most inexperienced master can figure this out. Installation and choice of fastening - that's all the tricks.

If you assemble the canopy correctly, it will last for decades. This is a very profitable and practical solution.

To make the structure as durable as possible, experts recommend buying finished frame. Thanks to this, the work on arranging the canopy will be carried out much faster.
