When constructing any object, wood is needed: for rafters, stairs, floorboards, furniture. It is very expensive to purchase ready-made products. And why? You can do everything yourself. All you need is desire and some materials.

Purpose of the tire sawmill

Human life requires wood of different species, each for its own purpose. It was once processed exclusively with axes and hand saws. They were replaced by and.

The equipment is constantly being modernized, and more and more convenient modern machines are appearing. These include tire sawmills. They cannot replace other machines, such as a rounding machine or a crown cutter, but they perform their functions in wood processing successfully.

If you plan to build a country house or dacha made of wood, then you will need quite a lot of material. And if there is a forest nearby and there is an opportunity to stock up on it, then it is best to make a tire sawmill with your own hands to process it and make building materials.

Making a sawmill with your own hands will help solve any problem related to wooden products: make a barn or a gazebo, a log house.

A self-made tire sawmill can produce:

  • high-quality sawing of logs in the longitudinal direction;
  • on it you can give the logs the same shape and size;
  • cut them into boards, beams, slats, and many other elements.

A homemade tire sawmill produces small batches of non-standard wooden blanks and processes wood of different species.

Placement and design of tire sawmills

To install a tire sawmill, you do not need a large area. It can be installed in a small area.

Created with your own hands, it can be stationary, in which an electric motor is installed, or mobile (using a gasoline engine). This will allow sawing equipment to be moved to any location, including the production of lumber in the forest.

They make it with their own hands following designs tire sawmills:

External view of a bus sawmill with an electric motor

  • With the movement of the working unit along the processed tree.
  • With a longitudinal method of feeding wood to the unit.

The advantage of the first type of tire sawmill is the control over the working unit throughout the entire section along the log. This ensures uniform cutting and high speed.

In the second case, control over sawing is more complex. A strong push from the tree can cause the chain to jam or the engine to overheat. The advantage is that there is no large quantity electrical wires, moving behind the unit.

Components of a sawmill

The working unit consists of:

  • Beds:
  • tires;
  • electric motor;
  • clutch mechanism.

The cutting tool here is a chainsaw chain bar. When using a chain saw designed for longitudinal sawing for the sawing mechanism, the cutting surface is guaranteed to be smooth.

The power unit is a three-phase electric motor with a power of 5.5 kW or a four-stroke gasoline engine with a power of 5.5 horsepower.

The basis of the sawmill is a frame along which a mobile trolley with a saw mounted in a horizontal position moves. The base must be of high quality to reduce vibration.

Bed design:

  • two steel or rails 8 meters long and 14 cm high;
  • Along the entire length of the channel, ties made from sections of metal pipe are installed;
  • holes are made in the channels and ties are installed in them every 1–1.5 meters.

Operating highlights

The tire sawmill is installed in any room or outdoor area.

Operating rules:

The tire sawmill can be installed in any place convenient for you

  • The room must be well ventilated and lit, since the unit is classified as dangerous.
  • Outdoor electrical equipment must be protected from precipitation.
  • The area for the equipment must be level. If the surface is uneven, the rail track is placed on anchors.
  • The rail track and tire must be horizontal.
  • The sawmill is installed on four support rollers, which roll it along guide rails.
  • The thickness of the sawn board is regulated by a vertical screw, which, when rotated, raises or lowers the cart with the saw unit.
  • During operation of the sawmill, the log is fixed motionless along the frame.
  • The clamping stops for supporting the log have a simple and convenient design: screws press the log against the stop flags.

How does a sawmill work?

The cutting is carried out by a chain bar mounted on a carriage moving slowly along the log. Please note that the chain is intended for longitudinal sawing and must be sharp to make sawing easier. If a chain is used for crosscutting, it must be sharpened at a different angle suitable for rip sawing.

The chain saw attached to the bar has a long service life and is quick and easy to install. If the drive sprocket wears out, it must be replaced before putting on a new chain.

The carriage with the tire is moved manually. The height of the tire is also adjusted manually using a special handle on the screw. The bar can be raised or lowered a certain distance to ensure the required cutting thickness.

The chain tension must be adjusted and this is constantly monitored during operation. A constant flow of oil from an oil can is organized into the nose sprocket of the tire.

Cutting quality tire sawmill does not suffer even if the chain is poorly sharpened. The tire's rigidity allows it to be maintained at an excellent level, without waviness or barreling.

DIY tire sawmill assembly

Making your own tire sawmill is not difficult, although it is troublesome. You need to prepare the appropriate materials and tools:

  • device diagram;
  • channel or rail;
  • steel pipes for pipes and spacers;
  • electric motor or gasoline engine;
  • tire, drive sprocket (can be taken from a chainsaw);
  • welding equipment with electrodes;
  • drill and cutting tools for metal;
  • auxiliary materials: chalk, hammer, tape measure.

First, a rectangular frame is constructed:

  • a tire is attached in the center of the frame at its base;
  • the fastening must withstand increased load and be reliable.

Follow a certain sequence of manufacturing a tire machine:

  • The cutting element is mounted on an axis made of high-strength steel. To do this, use the hole that is on the driven sprocket.
  • Thanks to the axis, the saw cannot move horizontally.
  • To prevent vertical displacement, bearings are mounted on the axle on both sides directly next to the tire.
  • The bearings are clamped with a sleeve, the axle is welded to the frame.
  • On the other side there is a motor and a chain tension control unit. All spare parts can be taken ready-made from a chainsaw.
  • The drive drum is mounted on the electric motor shaft and secured with a longitudinal key.
  • The structure is centered and securely fixed in the body.

The engine needs special attention. To avoid strong vibration, the trolley under it must have sufficient rigidity. It is mounted from a steel sheet 4–6 mm thick. To eliminate transverse play, a stop angle is attached to the trolley.

Installation of the structure on the base

After completing the assembly of the working unit, it is fixed to a metal frame, which can also be made by hand.

Frame installation sequence:

  • Weld two pieces in a U shape from durable steel pipes.
  • Weld or bolt the upper parts of the workpieces.
  • Weld 4 pipes vertically in the center of the frame.
  • Make indentations on the outside of each pipe at a distance of 20 mm from each other.
  • Weld four pipes to the working unit. They are put on the frame pipes.

The design provides the sawing unit with freedom of movement in the vertical direction. To fix the unit in a certain vertical position, bolts must be installed.

Stationary unit

A concrete base is sometimes made for a stationary sawing unit.

You can install the clutch yourself. This is an intermediate transmission mechanism from the engine to the drive gear. Transmission is carried out by belts stretched over engine pulleys and gears. The belts are pressed with special rollers. This device makes the sawmill more efficient.

The assembly process is multi-stage, but it is quite possible to make such a unit with your own hands. Installation of a tire sawmill on suburban area or at the dacha will bring a lot of benefits. After all, with its help you can make a large assortment necessary wooden products, and not run around looking for expensive materials in stores. A handmade product will not require large expenses.

Types and features of chainsaw sawmills

Construction markets offer big choice sawmills, which are based on a chainsaw. Fixed in a trolley with rollers, the unit can be manually moved along a pre-laid rail track. A powerful chainsaw or band saw can be used to harvest wood.

Chain unit used for cutting round timber. Its design includes a saw chain, after operation of which it remains a large number of sawdust This is the main disadvantage of this type of sawmill.

Band chainsaws capable of cutting enough logs large diameter. When working on such a sawmill, you should keep in mind that sawdust scatters over a large area around it, so you need to be careful. A flexible air duct connected to the chip ejector will help cope with this problem.

For domestic conditions, large sawmills are most often not required, so the optimal solution would be to manufacture a functional homemade mini-machine. Such a unit will be small in size, and therefore can be easily moved if necessary.

More often as the main element similar device chainsaw protrudes. which can be purchased at a specialized store or use a Ural brand unit.

Do-it-yourself sawmill from a chainsaw: video instructions and drawings

Having the drawings available and having studied the video instructions, it is quite simple to independently make a structure for processing logs, boards and slats. Before starting work, you must select appropriate place. You can install a sawmill using a chainsaw in an old barn, garage, hangar, or even just under a shed. If the room for the unit is closed, then you should take care of the hood.

Chainsaw sawmill - option No. 1

To make the structure, in addition to a chainsaw, you will need:

  • two channels 8 meters long and 140-180 millimeters high;
  • two rails;
  • corners 50x100 mm and 40x40 mm;
  • segments water pipe 25 cm as ties;
  • steel plate 4-6 cm thick and 60 cm long;
  • movable hoses;
  • pipes with a diameter of 35-40 mm.

Making your own sawmill should start with assembling the base from rails and corners 50x100 mm turned upside down. They must be installed strictly parallel to the floor, so you need to use a building level.

  1. Along the length of the base, according to the drawing, holes are drilled in increments of 1-1.5 meters and with a diameter of 14-16 mm.
  2. Then, according to the number of holes, ties are taken and connected with bolts.
  3. Stands are made from metal squares and the base is placed on them. The distance between the outer posts and the base should be about 100 cm.
  4. To make the structure more rigid, braces between the posts can be welded.

After the base is completed and installed, you need to make a movable cart with your own hands. For this a corner is welded to the bottom of the steel plate 40x40 mm and the product is placed on rollers or bearings. Two corners are welded on top of the plate, to which a chainsaw is attached.

On last stage To make a homemade sawmill, it is necessary to make a structure for fixing the logs. To do this, movable hoses and pipes should be placed on required height and secure them.

The first version of a homemade sawmill using a chainsaw is ready. There is another way to make a wood processing unit with your own hands. The tools and drawing for it will need the same, however, the design itself is more refined.

Do-it-yourself sawmill from a chainsaw - option No. 2

The structure consists of four main components:

  1. Driven saws.
  2. A mechanism for regulating the thickness of the board being produced.
  3. A mechanism for moving the saw part of the structure.
  4. Devices for fixing logs.

Since a chainsaw with a working engine and cutting teeth is already available, you will only need to make both mechanisms and a device for fixing logs with your own hands.

Mechanism for adjusting the thickness of the boards.

Logs are sawed by raising or lowering the base, which must be welded to the plate using four nuts with bent edges. At the top of this device lock nuts must be installed. which need to be tightened after the unit is adjusted to the desired thickness of the material being processed.

Mechanism for moving the saw.

The saw in the structure moves along the frame along guide angles, the distance between which should be 50 cm. To the racks it is necessary weld two rollers or bearings by 20 mm. The lower roller should keep the sawmill from lifting, and the upper one should rest on the guide angle.

Device for fixing logs.

On such a unit logs are secured using two ridges– stationary and moving by means of a screw. After the material to be processed has been installed, the moving comb is secured with screws in a stationary state. Now you can safely begin to operate a homemade sawmill made from a chainsaw.

A sawmill is an impressively sized The unit is quite dangerous to operate. Therefore, before you begin assembling it, you should carefully consider the place where it will be used. It should be well lit, ventilated and have free space. The nearby warehouse for finished boards will greatly facilitate the process of processing the material.

For a sawmill with an electric motor, you should very carefully install the necessary switches and automatic machines, as well as install the wiring.

Since the most dangerous elements Since the unit consists of all its cutting and moving parts, special attention should be paid to them when assembling the structure.

Before starting to operate the assembled equipment, it is necessary to check all fastenings and components, as well as the stability of the structure.

Operating instructions for a homemade chainsaw sawmill

After the structure has been assembled and tested, it must be tested in wood. To do this you need:

Jerky movements when cutting should not be made, as this can lead to the tire stopping.

It should be kept in mind that It is necessary to work in personal protective equipment. which include mittens, a robe, oversleeves and goggles. In addition, you should worry about protection for the moving frame in advance. It can be made from acrylic or transparent plastic. Such guards can protect against saw chain and chips.

A sawmill assembled with your own hands from a chainsaw will allow you to produce high-quality lumber with a cut of the correct shape. Therefore, if you often have to work with lumber, then this homemade equipment, made on the basis of the attached drawings and videos, will become an indispensable thing in the household.

What is a DIY chain sawmill?

  • Electrical part of the sawmill
  • Conclusion on the topic

A do-it-yourself chain sawmill in most cases is a regular chainsaw, rigidly mounted on metal structure for smooth movement along the material being cut. With this device you can saw long logs into pieces of the required length with good surface quality. The disadvantage of all chain sawmills is the large cutting width; the percentage of waste is higher compared to other types of devices.

A chain sawmill, when using an electric motor, must be equipped with the necessary equipment for starting and protection.

Craftsmen have developed several versions of devices, sometimes copying industrial ones, sometimes completely unique. Materials and parts for many devices were used from completely unexpected old mechanisms - bicycles, cars.

Manufacturing a stationary sawmill will cost much less than a purchased option, but requires certain experience and skills. You must be able to work with metal, producing high-precision parts, and be good at electric welding. Some parts need to be made on a lathe.

Therefore, before starting a project, it is advisable to carefully weigh all the pros and cons.

Selection and preparation of a site for a sawmill

To install a sawmill, a free space of approximately 3 x 6 m is required. When choosing, you need to take into account the possibility of supplying/removing material and storage space. If possible, the device should be located indoors or at least under a canopy. The roof will protect the equipment from weather conditions and allow you to work in the rain.

The surface must be flat, without significant slopes. It is necessary to provide for water drainage during rainy weather and snow melting so that puddles do not form. It is advisable to start manufacturing the sawmill at the installation site. The best option there will be a concrete surface.

The principle of operation of the sawmill.

To move the saw you need to prepare two rails or channels. The main requirement for them is perfect evenness without the slightest bends. The length will depend on the expected length of the logs for processing, usually from 4 to 8 m. The workpieces must be fastened together, precisely maintaining the distance between them. The fastening can be made permanent, using electric welding, or dismountable, using bolts. For connection, use an old water pipe with a diameter of 25-30 mm or other material available. The fastenings should be located in increments of 1-1.5 m. It is important that both workpieces are in the same plane, without distortion, otherwise the cart with the saw will change the angle of inclination relative to the log when moving, and the cutting surface will be uneven - “helicopter-like”. After installing the travel paths, you need to install racks to secure the log. They can be made from any metal profile of sufficient rigidity to withstand the weight and shock of the logs. The racks must be positioned as follows:

  • the first one along the saw path should be at a short distance from the edge of the trolley with the saw installed in the initial position;
  • the distance from the first to the last rack should be less than the length of the processed logs by approximately 0.5 m;
  • the intermediate posts must be distributed evenly between them.

The racks must be installed on the surface in one plane with sufficient strength, so as not to sink under the weight of the log. The plane of their installation must be parallel to the plane of the travel paths.

Log clamps must be installed on the posts. Their design can be any of the available materials. The basic rule is that the clamps should not interfere with the passage of the saw and should be able to fix logs within a certain thickness range.

Making a moving trolley

You can make a chain sawmill with your own hands in two versions, depending on the position of the saw:

  • the tire is located in a horizontal position;
  • vertical tire arrangement.

Diagram of the sawmill structure.

In the first case, the cut will take place along a horizontal plane, the sawn material will be on top of the log. In the second, the cut is vertical and the sawn-off part will be on the side.

To make a trolley, you can use a square profile pipe, angle or other material with the required strength.

The dimensions of the cart will depend on the length of the tire used, the weight and the size of the engine. The cart must be in stable equilibrium in all engine positions. The width of the frame must correspond to the width of the mobile tracks.

It is advisable to use carriage-type wheels with a side that prevents derailment. The diameter of the wheels should ensure smooth, effortless movement.

Assembly can begin by making two side frames with wheels. Then they need to be installed on the rails opposite each other, fixed and assembled the upper part. It is advisable to make all connections using electric welding. In the corners, to increase rigidity, it is necessary to weld jibs or corners made of sheet steel 3-4 mm thick.

To mount the engine you will need steel sheet thickness from 4 to 8 mm. If the engine is light in weight, the nuts for the studs that move the saw can be welded to the sheet after cutting out the holes. For engines of significant weight, it is better to make an additional reinforced frame. The assembly of the structure must be carried out on a trolley, having prepared all the elements. First you need to assemble using “tacks”, connecting the parts so that they can be easily cut or torn off. Then you need to check the design for assembly accuracy. The main points to check should be:

  • easy movement without significant effort of the saw throughout the entire permissible space;
  • precise position of the tire without tilting, corresponding to the plane of movement;
  • rigid, without movement, position of the entire mobile structure.

If the design has passed the test, you can begin welding all connections.

Electrical part of the sawmill

When using an electric motor, a DIY chain sawmill must be equipped with the necessary equipment for starting and protection. The minimum engine power must be at least 2000 W. At a lower power there is no point in making it; it is easier to use a hand-held electrified tool. Single phase motor It's quite difficult to find such power. Starting and operating a three-phase motor through a capacitor unit from one phase is problematic. The best option is to operate from a three-phase network.

To connect the electric motor you will need:

  • three-phase automatic switch;
  • RCD, if not installed in the power cabinet;
  • magnetic starter of any type in a housing;
  • push-button station with Start and Stop buttons;
  • rubber insulated cable;

It is advisable to install the circuit breaker and the RCD in the power supply cabinet. The starter and push-button post must be secured to the trolley.

All electrical equipment must be selected according to the current consumption of the electric motor.

Cable moving device

When moving the cart, the cable must be moved along with it. Dragging a cable along the ground will quickly damage it, possibly putting workers and equipment at risk. For long-term and safe operation it is necessary to make a structure for moving the cable.

To secure the cable, install two posts along the travel paths with a height of 2-2.5 m at a distance of approximately 0.5 m from the travel paths. Racks can be wooden or metal. Between them you need to stretch a steel wire with a diameter of 4-6 mm, after putting rings with a diameter of 40-50 mm made of steel wire with a thickness of at least 4 mm on it. The number of rings must be equal to the cable length in meters. A cable rolled into a coil with one ring about a meter long must be secured to the rings with insulating tape or strips of tin. It is advisable to install a bracket from a corner from the cart to the wire, and attach the cable going to the starter to it. After assembling the entire structure, the cable must be checked.

DIY chain sawmill

The chain sawmill is an indispensable assistant for any builder. Not a single serious repair can be done without it. This tool is especially relevant for those who live in the private sector and often face construction and repair problems.

What is a chain sawmill?

The principle of operation of a chain sawmill is to a certain extent reminiscent of a band saw: the log being cut is firmly fixed, while the cutting is carried out by the saw. The saw is attached to a moving carriage. The only difference between chain and band sawmills is that in this option only a chain saw is used, not a band saw.

The main disadvantage of a chain sawmill is its lower productivity and efficiency compared to band machines. Despite such disadvantages, people use such machines precisely because they are not high cost and convenience, and real craftsmen create chain sawmills with their own hands. Some people want to save money, while others simply want to make a machine that fully satisfies all the individual wishes of the master.

DIY chain sawmill

What do you need to create a chain sawmill with your own hands? First, you should look at the drawings of a chain sawmill on the Internet. The drawings vary, but any such sawmill consists of a chainsaw, a steel frame and rail guides.

In order to create a chain sawmill, you need to firmly attach a metal frame to the saw bar. The gap between the chain and the frame will be equal to the thickness of the resulting lumber. For this reason, you need to decide in advance what kind of lumber you need. By the way, if you make the distance between the chain and the frame larger, you can create not only boards, but also beams.

An excellent frame will be made from two steel channels, 8 meters long and 0.14 meters high. In addition, you can use rails or metal corners. You need blanks of a perfectly straight shape. Along the entire length of the channels you need to make holes with a diameter of 14-16 millimeters at a distance of up to 1.5 meters.

According to the number of these holes, you need to make them from sections of water pipe special couplers. All parts are attached using threaded rods or bolts.

After this, you need to assemble all the components of the chain sawmill into a single device and install it on racks. The number of racks depends on the dimensions of the frame. The very last posts should be no more than 1 meter from the end of the rails.

To give greater rigidity, you need to fix the braces.

After this, the movable trolley is mounted. It can be created from a steel plate with a thickness of 4 to 6 millimeters and a length of approximately 0.6 meters. The size of the trolley depends on the dimensions of the electric motor.

Next, you can begin selecting gaskets and clamping plates for the trolley. The elements must ensure free movement of the mechanism. At the same time, the gap should be minimal. The gaskets should be tightened using bolts.

It is imperative to eliminate the transverse play by installing a thrust angle to the base of the trolley. The trolley can be placed on bearings or rollers. Please note that you should use new bearings; used ones are definitely not suitable.

The chain needs to be tensioned as much as possible. The steering wheel is mounted on one of the side sprocket bushings located along the perimeter of the guides.

In order to create a fixing device for a log, you need to take pipes with a diameter of 3 - 4 centimeters, insert movable rods into them, which fit into the stopper at the required height with an M8 screw.

Pressing parts, the length of which is at least 1.5 cm, as well as cam clamps, are attached to the rods on top.

After this, you can install an electric motor and a saw, the diameter of which is 1 meter. Choosing a chainsaw for a home sawmill is also not an unimportant process. The chainsaw must have high power and high efficiency indicators. In addition, its chain must be well sharpened. Making a chain sawmill with your own hands is not difficult. But remember that in addition to creating the device, it is important to guarantee safe operation.

This is how “home” chain sawmills are created. A video of the manufacturing process of such a sawmill is presented below.

Safety at work

Having high productivity, sawmills are sources of increased industrial injuries. Many people have heard horror stories about “he turned his head away, but his finger was no longer on his hand.” There are many similar stories and they are all real.

Most reliable method reducing the number of injuries and accidents when using such equipment - scrupulous compliance with all safety regulations. Before starting work, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with the operating principles and operating instructions of such a device, as well as with the fire safety rules.

The highest level of safety is achieved when the sawmill is equipped with a reverse feed system due to its design.

Making a homemade sawmill with your own hands

Not everyone can afford the purchase of a ready-made sawmill, especially since it will only pay off with constant use (read commercial use). Is it possible to make a sawmill with your own hands? What difficulties will a do-it-yourselfer face if he decides to cut raw logs into industrial wood on his own?

Homemade band sawmill

Let’s make a reservation right away – making a band sawmill yourself is very difficult. It's not so much about the components, extensive turning and welding work, the need to sharpen and set the saw in a special way, but in the well-functioning performance of the entire complex.

It is necessary to ensure loading and stability of movement of up to 300 kg of one log, adjustment of cutting thickness, and most importantly, safety precautions. But if the availability of free wood wins, we make a band sawmill with our own hands.

Let us explain the principle of tape cutting with an example: take two spools of thread, stretch a threaded thin tape between them. By forcibly rotating the tape, we cut the log, the distance between the tapes is the maximum size of the beam. Band saws are convenient for cutting boards.

Let's start with choice production area or premises - at least 3x6 m, verified. The second most important thing is the metal wheels of the cart and band saw, this must be found or purchased. Order the frame of the belt mechanism with wheels, or it is better to buy a ready-made one. Self-production requires skills and a lot of high-precision tooling.

View 1. 1 - stand; 2 - roller; 3 - plate; 4 - screw; 5 - chain; 6 — guide lug; 7 — movable comb; 8 - screw; 9 - fixed comb; 10 - remote control.
View 2. 1 - pulley for starting the motor (if a three-phase motor is connected to a single-phase network); 2 - engine; 3 - pulley; 4 - shaft; 5 — housing with bearing; 6 - base; 7 - flywheel; 8 - finger; 9 — connecting rod; 10 - saw; 11 — M14x2 screw; 12 — roller; 13 — guide angle; 14 - stand; 15 — steering wheel; 16 — bushing; 17 — asterisk; 18 — nut M14x2; 19 — lock nut; 20 is an asterisk.

We install guides - any strong, flat metal: I-beam, channel, corner, under them, after 0.5 m, supports or anchors for stability. The distance between the guides is the diameter of the largest log with a margin of about 0.7 m. Maintaining the geometry, we weld everything together. We attach wheels, a belt mechanism frame, and an electric motor through a pulley to the cart.

Consider a mechanism for changing the horizontal movement of the saw relative to the log. Moving the cart relative to the fixed log, we cut off a horizontal layer of wood - we make boards.

Homemade circular sawmill

Disc sawmills have received the greatest handicraft use due to their versatility and ease of manufacture. We will make a circular sawmill with our own hands. The most important thing is that we will need a circular saw - a disc larger than 500 mm (the larger the better). The propulsion device is usually an electric motor through a pulley that increases the speed.

1 — main sleeper (steel pipe 80x80x3, 5 pcs); 2 — lining (steel sheet, 40x10x1.22 pcs.); 3 — guide blade (steel channel No. 8, L1750, 4 pcs.); 4 - trolley (telpher carriage); 5 — bottom bracket (steel channel No. 18, 2 pcs); 6 - plate - base (stylish sheet s5); 7 — M20 bolt) (4 pcs.); 8 — Grover washer (4 pcs.); 9 — nut M20 (4 pcs.); 10 — three-phase asynchronous electric motor (220 V, 5 kW, 930 rpm); 11 — upper bracket (steel angle 45×45); 12 — circular saw blade; 13 — protective casing (steel sheet s2); 14 — steel pin (8 pcs.); 15 — circular saw hub (St5); 16 — thrust handle ( water and gas pipe 3/4″); 17 — cut-off slab; 18 — thrust gusset (steel sheet s5); 19 — comb (steel angle 45×45, L400); 20 - log; 21 — M30 bolt; 22- split washer; 23 — retaining washer (steel sheet sЗ); 24 — thrust crossbar (steel angle 45×45); 25 — shortened sleeper (steel pipe 80x40x3, 6 pcs.); 26 — overlay for lengthening the blade (steel sheet 250x180x10, 2 pcs.).

A welded frame is prepared, a metal (less often wooden) plate with a slot for the disk is placed on the frame. The gaps between the disk and the plate are minimal. The saw shaft is attached to the plate from below on bearings and a pulley. The electric motor pulley and the saw are connected by belts (reinsurance when the saw jams) - a homemade circular sawmill can work!

one of the homemade options disk sawmill

To tension the belt, use the weight of the engine with the addition of weights. Make the supporting platform of the electric motor movable coaxially with the saw shaft, deflecting under weight in the opposite direction. The wheel of a working tractor with a drive to a saw pulley without belts is often used as a propulsion device.

Not everyone can afford to purchase a ready-made sawmill. Therefore, there are craftsmen who are able to make a tire sawmill in their own. If you follow the instructions and find everything necessary elements, then it will take a little time to assemble this machine. Of course, difficulties may arise during the work, but this is not a big deal, since everyone has the right to make mistakes, especially since in any case everything can be redone.

The manufacture of a homemade tire sawmill is carried out in stages

- first you need to choose a place for the sawmill. The platform should be slightly inclined, which will help when cutting. You will not need to put much effort on the carriage.

A carriage is created, the electric motor and tire will be attached to it. It will move along guide pipes (see photo). Everything is extremely simple and effective; the carriage cleans a large amount of sawdust from the guides. If desired, you can build a carriage that moves using rollers, but the design will become more complicated;

It is best to choose an asynchronous motor, and no less than 3000 rpm at 2 kW.

It is also necessary to purchase a 40 cm long bar with a chain for longitudinal cutting. The sharpening angle is 10 degrees. The tire will be attached to the carriage using two bolts in the standard groove. The flail is tensioned by hand, while at the same time the bolts that secure the tire are tightened. The engine shaft must rotate at least 3000 rpm for the tire to withstand such a load. The number of teeth on the drive sprocket ranges from 6 to 9, with a diameter of 4 to 6 centimeters;

You need to weld a thrust bearing onto the stand, on which the log will rest. The log and the entire support are lifted manually, and the mechanism is fixed with bolts (as shown in the photo).

Advice! To attach the sprocket to the main engine shaft, you need to drill a small hole on the shaft, this must be done with the engine running, then make a thread and secure the drive sprocket with a bolt;

- as practice shows, a 2-kilowatt engine does its job quite well. It does not heat up, and the sawmill itself does not create unnecessary noise;

Due to the fact that the sawmill has a similar design to the sawmill, its bar groove is not always well lubricated. Also, the drive sprocket remains without required quantity oils Industrial chain sawmills are supplied with the required amount of lubricant through a special hole. The sprocket is also lubricated by oil, which enters through the hole. But it would be best to lubricate those areas that are subject to maximum friction, and this is: the groove of the tire and all the sprockets that are in the mechanism. It is best to serve the oil using drip system, in all rubbing areas.

Do-it-yourself tire sawmill driven by an electric motor

Repair or construction of a private house, construction of a bathhouse or processing of felled trees are all activities that can be carried out by a mini sawmill.

But will you really have to spend a lot of money to purchase such a unit? Many knowledgeable craftsmen who offer drawings of chain sawmills online believe that no. And if you are willing to spend a little time and effort, you can try making a chain sawmill with your own hands.

What will it take? Any chain sawmill " homemade» consists of parts such as a chainsaw, a steel frame and rail guides.
To make a chain sawmill, a metal frame should be attached to the saw bar. The space between the tire and the frame will be equal to the thickness of the resulting board. Therefore, you should decide in advance what it will be and prepare a drawing of a home chain sawmill.
By the way, if you increase the distance between the tire and the frame, you can get a homemade tire sawmill for sawing timber.
Choosing a chainsaw for a mini chain sawmill - another one important step. Such a unit must be powerful, economical and have good chain sharpening.
Will a DIY chain sawmill work efficiently?
Many people are interested in the question of whether homemade chain sawmills will be as reliable as industrially manufactured mini chain sawmills. It is impossible to answer this unequivocally, because everything depends on how well the work is carried out by the home craftsman.
And here, durable rail guides are one of the most important requirements, without which it is impossible to create a reliable chain sawmill. A well-thought-out mechanism for fastening logs is also very important.
Safety rules for those who decide to make a chain sawmill with their own hands
There is no doubt that a DIY chain sawmill is quite possible. However, it is important not only to assemble such a device, but also to ensure the safety of its use. Perhaps this is the most important thing in which factory-made chain sawmills are superior to similar home-made designs.
However, subject to a number of rules, mini chain sawmills home assembly can also be quite reliable and productive.
The most important thing is not to use low-quality metal or used bearings when assembling a homemade chain sawmill. It is also advisable to install a new chainsaw with sufficient power.
We should not forget that competent drafting A detailed and thoughtful drawing of a chain sawmill is already half of your success.

Safety at work.

The most popular lumber in construction is produced on sawmills of various capacities. With high equipment productivity, sawmills are sources of increased industrial injuries. Many of us have heard real stories on the topic “I’m gape, but there’s no finger on my hand anymore.” And there are practically no exaggerations in such stories.

The only one reliable way reducing the number of injuries and accidents when operating such equipment - strict adherence by all employees to safety regulations at work. The general list of dangerous and harmful factors in such production is quite extensive. It includes both dangers from injury from cutting tools, mechanical injuries from moving and rotating parts of machines and mechanisms, as well as back injuries common to many industries during high physical exertion, damage to the organs of vision and breathing from dust and shavings released during wood processing, and falls. from heights of various loads and workpieces, injuries when lifting heavy objects.

Even before starting work, all employees must study the principles of operation and operating instructions for existing equipment, the rules and procedures for storing workpieces and finished products, principles of troubleshooting and troubleshooting technology, fire safety rules in production, internal work schedule and work organization system.

You must immediately take into account that workers should not find and fix problems with electrical installations and equipment on their own. To ensure occupational safety, any sawmill must provide reverse feed due to its design. For sawmills with continuous supply of material, they are equipped with remote control on/off supply.

When carrying out work on four-roll sawmill frames, logs no shorter than 3 m must be sawed. If it is necessary to process shorter logs, the sawmill must be equipped with additional mechanisms. And to work with ridges shorter than 1.5 m, special eight-roller frames are used. Processing of beams and logs shorter than 0.8 m on sawmill frames is not allowed. Operational safety is additionally ensured by the brake of the sawmill, which allows for recoilless braking.

Characteristics

Types of sawmills and other woodworking machines.

IN last years There has been a tendency to use natural environmental materials in construction, furniture production, and in many other areas. These include, first of all, wood, which has become the main material in the construction of modern country houses and cottages. Significant increase in volumes suburban construction was the main factor in increasing demand not only for wood.

Woodworking equipment is designed to carry out a full technological cycle for wood processing: from sawing, drying wood to assembling and finishing finished products. Types of woodworking equipment general purpose include woodworking machines and sawmills.

Woodworking machines are equipment designed to give wood a given size and shape. Woodworking machines can process materials, semi-finished products (boards, beams), parts of various wooden structures or finished products (parquet, doors, furniture). Woodworking machines are used to carry out several technological procedures.

According to the method of wood processing, they are distinguished:
band saws
jointers
Thicknessers
milling machines
CNC milling machines
tenoning
drilling
slotting
turning
grinding machines, etc.

Band saws and circular saw woodworking machines are used for cutting wood materials, blanks, as well as board materials - plywood or particle boards. To create one or two base surfaces in one pass, jointing woodworking machines are designed, which can be either manual or mechanized. Thicknesser woodworking machines are used to process workpieces to size for a given thickness, and to form tenons and lugs on adjacent parts when connecting them at an angle, woodworking equipment such as tenon cutting machines is used.

For milling straight and curved surfaces, as well as for profiling moldings and processing edges, woodworking milling machines with a lower or upper spindle are used. Drilling of through/non-through holes occurs on special drilling and slotting machines, and to obtain cylindrical, conical, complex shapes Woodworking lathes are used to make the blanks.

In the construction of wooden houses and cottages, the use of rounded logs has become widespread. Rounding machines are special type woodworking equipment designed to perform all necessary operations for the manufacture of a log house. On rounding machines there is a procedure for round processing of logs (rounding), making a longitudinal laying groove, compensating cut, and also obtaining a crown cup - an element of transverse fastening of cylindrical parts.

Rounding machines are distinguished by their optimal dimensions and energy intensity. They don't require preliminary preparation logs for rounding. Thanks to the use of a rounding machine, the maximum possible smooth surface workpieces, since it is possible to adjust the speed of movement of the carriage and the speed of rotation of the log. Rounding machines are used to produce cut and tapered logs, as well as logs with variable diameters.

Rounding machines have a lot of useful properties:
optimal dimensions;
low energy intensity;
does not require preliminary preparation of logs for rounding.

Thanks to the use of a rounding machine, the most smooth surface of the workpiece is obtained, since it is possible to adjust the speed of movement of the carriage and the speed of rotation of the log. Rounding machines are used to produce cut and tapered logs, as well as logs with variable diameters.

Round timber sawing machines are divided into three main types:
frame sawmill,
circular saw or circular sawmill,
band sawmill.

The most widespread are band sawmills, which have found their application in wood processing and repair and construction industries. Band sawmills are used for longitudinal sawing of various types of wood into boards and beams. There are three types of band sawmill: vertical, horizontal and corner. To choose a sawmill that is right for your needs, it will be useful to learn about what each of these types is intended for, what its advantages and disadvantages are over others.

Using vertical sawmills, logs are sawn into beams and boards required thickness. This is very convenient, however, such a machine is not enough to carry out complex processing of beams, for example, rounding. When purchasing a sawmill of this type, you should pay attention to where the machine control panel is located. The number of gripping stands is also important.

Thanks to horizontal sawmills, edged or unedged board and timber. For this purpose, round timber is used for processing. Horizontal sawmills can be of two models - with mechanical supply of material to the machine, or wood supply is carried out manually. If you decide to buy just such a sawmill, then important parameter What needs to be taken into account is the maximum diameter of the log that can be worked with on the machine. It is also worth paying attention to the way in which the logs are fed to the machine.

Band sawmill

And finally, the third model of a band sawmill is a machine located at a certain angle. Using this type of sawmill you can divide boards and wooden boards into workpieces that are subsequently used elsewhere. Therefore, when purchasing such a sawmill, you need to pay attention to such parameters as the maximum height of the workpiece, the angle of inclination, as well as the dimensions of the working surface.

The cutting tool for band saws is a 40 mm wide band saw, which is driven by an electric motor. Band sawmills are distinguished by small cuts or high output of lumber on edged boards, reaching up to 70%. Other advantages of a band sawmill include quick adjustment of the cut for each specific board, the ability to saw large-diameter logs, and the cleanliness of the cut surface. However, it must be taken into account that when working with wood coniferous species on cutting edges saws and resin sticks to the moving parts of the sawmill, which significantly complicates the operation of the band sawmill.

Disc sawmills or “lumber machine”. We are talking about the same woodworking equipment. Functionality The circular sawmill allows you to cut logs with high dimensional accuracy. This is an important advantage.

There are several principles of operation of a circular sawmill:
A stationary log is sawed with one or more saws located on the same plane;
A stationary log is sawed with one rotary saw or two saws located 90 degrees relative to each other;
The log moves and is sawed by two saws located 90 degrees relative to each other; The log moves and is sawed by one or more saws located on the same plane;

Band sawmills allow you to saw round wood longitudinally into boards, beams, sleepers, and veneer. To prevent changes in the dimensions of the workpieces during their subsequent machining or already in finished products a procedure such as drying the wood is necessary. Drying of wood must be carried out before starting work on milling, sanding, gluing and applying a protective and decorative coating to wooden blanks. Removing excess moisture from wood significantly improves its performance characteristics and extends its service life.

Special drying chambers are designed for drying different types of wood. For a long time drying of wood was carried out in air, the so-called in a natural way. Now, with the advent of wood drying kilns, this form of drying is no longer necessary.

The main types of wood drying chambers include:
aerodynamic drying chambers;
Microwave drying chambers;
convective drying chambers;
condensation drying chambers for wood.

All of the listed types of wood drying chambers have their advantages and disadvantages, but the most common type of this equipment is convective wood drying chambers.

The technology is that the heat in drying chambers transmitted by air passing through a heat exchanger: the air passes through the board bags and ensures an efficient drying process. For one or another stage of wood drying, you can change the parameters of the air flow: temperature, speed, direction, as well as humidify the air or, conversely, reduce the humidity in the chamber.

Comparison

When choosing the best option sawmill equipment, you should first of all pay attention to the most important advantage of band saws and container multi-saws compared to multi-saw disk machines; this advantage lies in the low cutting height. You may ask, is this really what it is? great importance does this have an advantage?

The size of the cut of a disk machine, as a rule, ranges from 5 to 6.2 mm. The tire sawmill produces an even larger cut. For example, you can take a cutting map for a thin log with a diameter of 180 mm and material with a section of 124x35, it is obvious that total area the cut will be 4377 mm2. If the cross-section of the log is 90x90, then 17.2% of the wood will go to sawdust. If you process at least 900 m3 monthly, then you should not pay attention to such wood loss, because the volumes processed compensate for the loss. If production volumes are small, then it makes sense to use technologies that do not differ high performance, however, allowing you to saw wood with minimal losses. Thus, for small production volumes, it is more advisable to use band saws or container multi-saw machines, but not busbar sawmills.

If you use band saw, the cut size will be equal to 2.2-2.5 mm. With a log with a diameter of 180 mm to obtain lumber with a section of 124x35, the cut area will be 1765 mm2. Thus, only 6.9% of the wood will go into sawdust. A comparison of this figure and the cross-section of the log (3.14x90x90=25447 mm2) allows us to conclude that 1765/25447x100%=6.9% of the wood is sawdust. If 600 m3 of roundwood is processed within a month, then the volume of wood that goes into sawdust is 41 m3 of wood.

Let's compare. If you process 600 cubic meters of roundwood per month, then 41 cubic meters of it will be used for sawdust. If this amount of wood is processed on multi-saw disc machines, then the sawdust will amount to 100 cubic meters of wood. Thus, when using band saw machines, the material savings will be 59 cubic meters or 10% of the total amount of wood. Tire sawmills, which produce a wide cut, are used, as a rule, by private traders or small farms to process minimal volumes, for which the yield of wood does not matter.

With your own hands

Is it worth constructing a tire sawmill yourself?

The processing technology is as follows: the log is fixedly fixed, while its cutting is performed using a moving saw (chain saw). The part is fixed on the carriage.

Do-it-yourself tire sawmill manufacturing technology

A frame is made from 2 steel channels, having a length of 8 meters and a height of 0.14 meters. In addition, you can use rails or metal corners. The blanks required are those that have a perfectly straight shape.

Holes are made along the entire length of the channels (diameter 14-16 millimeters) at a distance of up to 1.5 meters.

According to the number of holes, special ties are made from sections of water pipe. The parts are secured using threaded rods or bolts.

The components of the structure of a do-it-yourself bus sawmill, which have already been prepared, are assembled together and installed on racks. The number of racks depends on the length of the bed. The outer posts must be placed at a distance of up to 1 meter from the end of the guides.

To give rigidity to the structure, it is rational to fix the braces.

Gaskets and clamping plates for the trolley are selected. The elements must ensure free movement of the mechanism. At the same time, an extremely minimal clearance is required. The gaskets are tightened using bolts.

Transverse play can be eliminated by attaching a stop angle to the base of the trolley. The trolley can be placed on bearings or rollers.

A chain is used to move a cart with a saw and motor. The chain should be as tensioned as possible on the tire sawmill with your own hands.

The steering wheel is mounted on one of the bushings of the side sprockets, which are located at the edges of the guides.

A fixing device for a log is being manufactured. Pipes with a diameter of 3-4 centimeters are taken. Movable rods are inserted into them, which enter the stopper at the desired height with an M8 screw.

Pressing parts with a length of at least 1.5 cm and cam clamps are fixed on top of the rods.

An electric motor and a saw with a diameter of 1 meter are installed.

Firms

Do you know which area of business has always been considered one of the most profitable? The correct answer is a business related to the production and sale of building materials. Today, many entrepreneurs who are just about to open their own business are thinking about what type of activity to choose so that the project begins to generate a stable income with minimal financial costs. Of course, in construction industry There are quite a lot of options for making money, but among the most promising and highly profitable, it is worth highlighting your own sawmill.

business sawmill

Based on the foregoing, it becomes quite clear why many businessmen are interested in how to open a sawmill in order to ensure sufficient profitability. There is no need to worry about this, since the profitability in this area is consistently high. If you want to start your own sawmill production, then for this it will be enough for you to have starting capital in the amount of at least 20,000 US dollars.

Also, to open a sawmill, you will need to find an area larger than 30 m² and approve all permits with the relevant authorities, without which it will be impossible to cut down forest in the selected area.

Regarding the organization production process, then it must include equipping the territory with all the required elements. These elements include the following:

convenient access roads;
location of the canopy and sawmill in the correct place allocated for them;
construction of warehouses for storing raw materials and finished products (warehouses must be built based on next calculation: each of them should store half of the monthly reserve).
Among other things, one cannot help but dwell on the choice of the sawmill itself. It is worth noting that it is most advisable to purchase a sawmill model that was produced not by a domestic, but by a foreign manufacturer. If we compare the cost of a previously used Finnish sawmill with a new domestic sawmill, it is almost the same, but its quality is much better. On average, you will have to pay about $3,500 for a sawmill. If the goal is to organize a small sawmill, then it makes sense to use such types of machines as mini sawmills, frame saws or band sawmills. They will be able to fully service large volumes of production.

Those who have been in this business for a long time recommend that beginners opt for a band sawmill. This type of sawmills not only low level consumption of electrical energy, but also a low level of waste generated during the production of lumber (no more than 17%). With a power of 50 kW, the band sawmill pays for itself in less than five months of use.

business sawmill

After the sawmill is installed on your site, you will mandatory it is necessary to organize a special canopy over it. It serves to protect the sawmill from rain, snow, etc. The approximate square footage of the room allocated for the sawmill is at least 10×20 m, and the height is from 5 m.

Monthly costs, including taxes, electricity, raw materials and the salaries of two employees, are close to $16,000.

Now let's calculate the volume of production required to make a profit: 1 m³ of raw logs will cost $80, and the price of finished products (lining, boards) is above $180/m³, therefore, your sawmill must produce at least 700 m³ of products monthly.
Thanks to crisis situation, which is currently taking shape all over the world, the sawmill has turned into an investment project that anyone can enter. Now the idea of opening your own sawmill is very promising and in demand, because the profitability of this production can reach 100-150%.

What keys do we use?: chain sawmill homemade chain sawmill mini chain sawmill chain sawmill + do it yourself

Today it is difficult to imagine the modern private sector without a chain sawmill. She happens to be an indispensable tool for many jobs, especially when it comes to repairs and construction. Therefore, its presence is completely justified.

But not all people have the opportunity to purchase such an instrument for money. After all, such a sawmill is not so cheap, and even to buy quality tool not easy. This prompted specialists and craftsmen to develop a simple technology by which you can make a chain sawmill with your own hands.

Preparing for work

Before you start working directly on the tool, you need to decide where you will place the sawmill. Best places for this purpose - a garage or workshop. After all, a sawmill is a rather heavy tool in terms of weight and size. Therefore, it is recommended to install it immediately where you intend to work.

Some people store sawmills in their yard. But it is not recommended to do this for the reason that the sawmill may deteriorate in the open air. Therefore, if you have nowhere to store it, then you need to take care of at least a minimal canopy.

When a location is chosen, make sure that the tools are available. It is best to choose metal for a sawmill good quality, on which there are no signs of corrosion, cracks or holes. The level of reliability in the future will largely depend on this. So, you will need:

  • two steel channels 2 cm high and about 9 m long (the sizes may be different depending on your personal preferences and capabilities);
  • sections of metal water pipes;
  • powerful hammer drill;
  • metal corners;
  • thick bolts;
  • welding machine;
  • metal blanks for racks;
  • wooden blocks;
  • a steel plate, the dimensions of which are slightly larger than the dimensions of the electric motor of the future sawmill, and the thickness is about 5 mm;
  • rubber gaskets;
  • steel plates;
  • a special chain, which is purchased separately (it is best to take a new chain, checking its quality at least visually).

When selecting basic metal blanks, also remember that they all must be perfectly smooth. If there are distortions in any places, the DIY chain sawmill will turn out to be of poor quality. And this, you see, will not make you happy at all.

Preparation of blanks

Now is the time to get to work. First, clear the area where the sawmill will be located from debris and extra items. It is important that this place is as level as possible. Therefore, if the surface is uneven, it is strongly recommended to level it.

Now take two main channels and drill identical holes with a hammer drill at the same distance from the edge along the length (about 1.5 m). Next, the same distance is measured from the holes along the entire length, markings are applied and drilling is carried out in the same way. As a result, you will have several holes. The main thing is equal distances between them and maintaining their parallelism on the channels relative to each other.

Now you need to count the total number of holes. And prepare pipe sections in the same quantity. The length of each tube is approximately ¾ of the length of the channel. But the thickness can vary from 2 to 2.5 cm. The connection to the channels is made using bolts, for which holes are drilled in advance with a hammer drill.

Manufacturing and fastening of racks

Next, you need to make stands on which the tool will rest. IN ideal you should get 4 identical thick racks, which are fastened to the channels using the same bolts or welding machine. If the expected length of the unit is large, you can use more racks for reliability. Here you have the right to decide for yourself.

But before fastening, you need to install the frame on the racks. Carefully ensure that the racks are at a distance of about 0.8-1 m from the edges of the bed. After this, you can safely connect the frame to the racks in the manner described above.

But, in order for the tool to be quite strong and reliable, it is necessary to perform lower fixation. For this purpose, wooden blocks are used, which are placed under the racks. Try to make everything straight at once so that the tool does not warp.
