The bathroom is perhaps the smallest room in our apartments. But this does not make it any less significant. The mood with which we leave it in the morning determines how our day will go, so it is very important to combine functionality and comfort in it. What do you need to know to renovate your bathroom in accordance with your chosen goals?

Basic stages of bathroom planning

Bathroom renovation is a responsible, lengthy and labor-intensive stage. It is necessary to carefully consider the layout and competently draw up a bathroom project in order to “forget” about construction work there for ten years. First, you need to take measurements of the bathroom, marking on the plan the location of all communications, drains and pipe entries. Secondly, consider the option of adding a toilet to the bathroom. Thus, it is possible to achieve an increase in the area of the room and its functionality.

Third, make a preliminary list of necessary equipment. Choose between a bathtub and a shower cabin, decide on the installation washing machine(you can place it, for example, in the kitchen), decide on the need for a urinal or bidet in the room.

Fourth, consider the possibility of transferring communications. Modern manufacturers offer many options for this: flexible water hoses, corrugated pipes and more. With their help you can easily move your plumbing fixtures to a new location.

Among other things, replacing outdated pipes with new ones will help solve the problem of leaks. The technologies used to produce new pipes make them durable and easy to maintain.

In conclusion, it is necessary to prepare several projects for placing plumbing fixtures and furniture inside and, finally, select the appropriate one.

Number of bathrooms in residential premises

So how many bathrooms are needed in a room: two or one? Is it worth combining two rooms together? There is no clear answer. Everywhere has its pros and cons.

Positive sides:

  • Increasing the area of the bathroom.
  • Everything is in one room, there is no need to go to the bathroom after visiting the bathroom.
  • Reduce material costs for one wall.
  • There is scope for implementing bold design solutions.

Negative aspects of combination:

  • If the family is large, then there may be queues to use the bathroom.
  • Inconvenience of taking a bath near the toilet.
  • Demolition interior partition requires official permission, which is not always easy to obtain.

In any case, the decision will be yours; you just need to carefully weigh the pros and cons.

Space zoning and redevelopment

To increase the functionality of a room, designers use the zoning method, that is, dividing the space of a room depending on its purpose. According to this principle, the bathroom can be divided into three zones: an area for taking water treatments (bath, shower, sink), an area for personal hygiene and natural needs (toilet, urinal, bidet) and a utility area (washing machine, cabinets for storing cleaning equipment) .

Zoning can be done different ways: combine plumbing fixtures and furniture for their intended purpose in one place or highlight an area using design techniques. These include using contrasting colors or finishing materials, multi-level ceilings and flooring, lighting. When remodeling, it is important to choose models of furniture and plumbing fixtures that allow you to use the space with maximum benefit. Engage the corners. Take a closer look at corner bath and toilet - they take up less space, and functionality does not suffer from this.

Convenient too corner shelves And open shelves from of stainless steel. You can place towels and other bath accessories on them.

Instead of a tandem of floor and wall cabinets, it is better to use a tall pencil case. It is more spacious and, if desired, can act as a partition, separating the toilet from the water treatment area. In addition, the shape of the pencil case very successfully expands the space of the room.

Good result To expand the space in the bathroom, you can create additional structures. For example, a washing machine or sink can be hidden in a niche, and the installation of an additional partition will allow you to place a larger number of items.

Installation systems also allow you to save space in the bathroom - special structures with the help of which a wall-mounted toilet is secured. Moreover, all systems are built into the wall, which means they are hidden from view.

Unusual design solutions in small bathrooms they also help solve the space problem. A bathtub installed diagonally or in the center of the room allows you to use the freed walls for installing additional furniture or plumbing fixtures.

Good idea- placement of the washing machine under the sink. So you will have free place. Be sure to read our article about this.

How to make a design project correctly

A huge help in redevelopment work will be a design project that takes into account all aspects: the size and configuration of the room, ceiling height, placement of communications and includes plans, drawings, selection and arrangement of furniture and equipment, accessories, as well as three-dimensional visualization of the interior . You can greatly simplify it, leaving only the most significant points. There are special programs for drawing up projects, but to do the work efficiently and without errors, professional experience and skills are required. It is difficult to understand such programs on your own and takes a lot of time.

The average person can be advised to use free online services that are available on the Internet. Most often they can be found on sites that sell ceramic tiles, they can also be used to calculate required amount materials. The disadvantage of such programs is that they are more than modest functionality, they are designed for standard bathrooms.

Who can you trust to design your bathroom?

Based on the above, let us give ourselves advice to entrust the redevelopment to the masters. Mistakes made at the design stage can lead to irreparable consequences: the shower stall will not fit into its intended place, and the washing machine will not be able to be connected to the electrical network because they forgot to make a socket. Special programs do not create the interior on their own; they are only a tool in the hands of a professional, designed to satisfy your desires in reality. Designers, with extensive experience, will find the most convenient, technically feasible solution for your bathroom.

The living minimum is a bath of about 3 square meters. meters

Having properly thought through the design of a small bathroom, designers can make it functional room. Let's consider an option with the original dimensions of the bathroom being 1.5 m long and 1.37 m wide. IN in this case You can combine it with a bathroom by dismantling the partition between them and blocking one doorway. The resulting room with an area of 2.9 m² can easily fit a toilet, a corner bathtub and a sink. You can choose a convenient cabinet under the washbasin and there will be room for a washing machine and a tall pencil case.

We divide the space - bathroom 4 sq. m.

If you have a bathroom combined with a bathroom that is 2.5 m long and 1.6 m wide, then the space between the personal hygiene areas and the washing area can be divided using a partition. This layout involves replacing a regular bath with a shower cabin, which then leaves room to accommodate additional cabinets. In this project, the toilet and sink are installed directly next to the partition.

Bath 5.9 sq. meters - with shower and double sink

If you are the happy owner of a large bathroom with an area of as much as 5.9 m² and also a family man, then consider an interior design with two wash basins. First you need to remove the excess masonry next to the bathroom. This will allow you to place a washing machine there, and if you remove the closet, then there will be enough space for a shower stall. Now two family members can shower at the same time in the bathroom. Instead of a single washbasin, we install a double one. Such a project will be relevant in large families.

All at once - a bathroom with an area of 7.2 square meters. meters

This redevelopment is suitable for a room of 7.2 m² and aims to create an intimate corner for taking water treatments. The bathtub is placed in a corner and separated from the rest by a special translucent screen, which additionally serves as splash protection. In addition, space is freed up for installing cabinets or a washing machine. You can ditch the double sink in favor of a bidet or urinal and, if desired, hide them behind a partition.

Here you can choose between taking a shower or bathing, washing your face alone or in the company of your beloved family members. A bathtub is placed against the wall opposite the entrance, next to which there is also a shower stall. Instead of a single sink, a double sink is placed; to do this, you have to move it slightly deeper into the room. On the left behind the door there is a washing machine, and next to the shower stall there is a toilet.

Bathroom from 10.3 sq. meters - we use the large space wisely

The 10.3 m² bathroom has an additional niche. If you make the correct arrangement, then in such a room you can easily organize a guest area. To do this, you will need to move the interior doorway and install three small partitions. This area houses a washbasin and toilet for guests. The entrance to the master bathroom can be made separate, or it can pass through the guest area - this will free up additional space for placing cabinets. The bathtub and washbasin for the owners are located on a raised platform, and the bathtub bowl is placed diagonally and recessed. This is the case when zoning is emphasized by different floor levels.

Today's post is about how to collect DIY bathroom furniture. The article was prepared based on the material home handyman Dmitry Podpalchenko, already familiar to regular readers of the Remont–Dlya-Vseh.ru blog for making headsets.

DIY bathroom furniture

I really liked the furniture from natural wood(or veneered boards) that I have seen in some hotels. In particular, I really like the use of panels large thickness(40 mm or more), which greatly adds solidity to the furniture. It’s decided - we’ll make it from thick panels!

My perfectionist tendencies complicated the task with the requirement that new furniture be made in the same color and texture in which it was made in advance installed door. The door I have is Papa Carlo - these are really good doors. I had to build a clever combination so that the production would give me all the information about the veneer used - it was not without difficulty that I found out that it was “Alpi Walnut Italian tangential two-flavored 2N 270/FN 2 A30”.

So, the task was set: a bathroom cabinet made of thick panels, in the same veneer as the door.

DIY bathroom furniture: choosing material

Water and humidity, to put it mildly, are not best friend for furniture, so the issue of choosing material in this case is of paramount importance. was rejected as a class, although moisture-resistant chipboard exists (but it is mainly available only in white). MDF - no matter what, mainly manufacturers of bathroom furniture use this particular construction material. But if you wet the MDF thoroughly, it will also swell. Once I already had an abundant waterfall in the bathroom and hallway, although until that moment I thought that I was extremely reliably insured against a flood due to the lack of neighbors above. If something like this happens again, I’m unlikely to have the desire to do the same thing again. Therefore, MDF is also not an option, we cut it off like eggs from a tax in kind.

At first I wanted to make everything from solid teak, because teak is practically not affected by water and is often used in finishing yachts and ships. But, unfortunately, in Ukraine I did not find a supplier capable of cutting teak for me the right sizes, but I don’t have a carpentry shop. Solid wood of other types of wood in wet conditions is unacceptable.

But plywood, and especially its most common type - Shipboard Plywood (FC) - is what the doctor ordered, it’s not for nothing that it’s called shipboard. Plywood is produced in the most different thicknesses- from small to large, and this is also a plus - you don’t have to glue two thin panels to get thickness, as is usually done with chipboard and MDF.

DIY bathroom furniture: measurements

Doesn't happen at all smooth walls There are no perfectly right angles. You need to know the enemy by sight. In the case of creating furniture close to the walls (not free-standing), you need to understand how smooth the walls are and the corners are straight. In this case I was lucky. The maximum deviation I received was 2 mm. At 2 meters and this can not even be taken into account.

DIY bathroom furniture: design

Cabinet furniture is easy! A set of rectangular panels that must be joined in a specific way. There is nothing complicated about this and good instrument won't be much of a problem. And of course, the necessary school knowledge of geometry and trigonometry - sine-cosine there, tangent-cotangent.

In this case, I used SketchUp for design:

DIY bathroom furniture: fittings

Bloom. Excellent Blum fittings. Having started with it, I have no desire to look at anything else. In particular, because they give the master first-class documentation and design capabilities. You haven’t ordered anything yet, but you already know where every hole necessary for attaching the fittings will be. And for the diehards, you can even transfer everything you design in Blum Dynaplan directly into the 3D SketchUp model.

I ended up buying two tandemboxes and a metabox for the inner drawer. It cost $100.

DIY bathroom furniture: Action

So, the result of our design studies there should be a file that lists every single detail. Approximately this (calculation of materials was made for all furniture: for the bathroom and hallway):

Now we need to find a company that will take some money from you, look at the detailing file and in return give you all your panels - in the right sizes, cut and edged. They will cut your firewood from slabs certain sizes. If this material They have it in their warehouse program - you can without hesitation get as many square meters as you need. Otherwise, you will be forced to buy and pay for the slabs, and not for the number of square meters you need.

When designing bathroom furniture with your own hands, to achieve a good economic effect, you should approach at least 80% filling of sheets of slab material. I will demonstrate using the example of cutting cards that I made myself in the Cutting program (they were later used for cutting):

The cutting takes into account details for the bathroom cabinet and. I quickly compensated for the ineffective filling of sheets of material. This is how the initially unplanned ottoman was born. And the sheet filling efficiency was more than 90%.

The plywood, veneer, cutting and edging were done by TransLok. All this cost $500. I had to go to the factory because I wanted to do a few custom things: I needed finishing cuts for the vanity and miter saws on several hanger pieces.

So, all the firewood fit perfectly into the car, was delivered and lifted into the apartment (excellent work, I must say).

DIY bathroom furniture: painting

[r]Uh... I was completely unprepared to find out that veneered (in general, it seems correct to say “veneered”, but “veneered plywood” sounds stupid) products are still a semi-finished product. And it turns out they still have to be processed.

Now it’s interesting to see what the unprocessed product looks like. Trying on the ground:

I walked around in shock all day. All this firewood collectively weighs 150 kg. I already loaded them, brought them home, unloaded them, and took them up to the floor. That is, to take them to the paint shop you need to: load, unload, load, unload. And the firewood doesn’t get any better. They must be constantly repackaged, otherwise all the beauty will be ruined. The cost of paintwork, as it turns out, is not cheap at all. The most profitable proposition what I found was $50 for square meter. That is, firewood costs $500, and its processing costs $600. At home, it is very, very difficult to do high-quality painting and varnishing, although I know that in principle it is possible. But we are not looking for easy ways!

Furniture, even in the format we are familiar with, has existed for a very long time - centuries! Polyurethane varnishes clearly did not exist in those days. What was the furniture of those times covered with? Wax! On some forum I found information about the OSMO brand. I Googled it and realized that this is what I need - a warm lamp mixture of oils and waxes, easily applied at home. There was a risk that I wouldn’t match the color of the door, but... everything went more than successfully!

Test paint. On the left is the unprocessed part, in the center the processed part, on the right is the scrap from the door that we are aiming for.

The sequence of actions is as follows: sand with large grains, sand with small grains, paint, wait, sand with small grains, paint, wait, polish. I experienced all this the hard way and, I must tell you, the cost of painting work is quite justified - these are terrible hemorrhoids. But no one said that you can easily make bathroom furniture with your own hands!

Actually, everything we need for the painting process. And patience, a lot of patience.

This is how the color of the panels suddenly changes when painted. Fantastic:

The painting process took away from me. a week!

DIY bathroom furniture: assembly

Well, let's go collect! But first, to the store:

Confirmat is a useful, fast and convenient thing. For furniture makers. For you, confirmation is a bunch of unaesthetic plugs on furniture surfaces. When creating decent furniture, confirmat is not used. Or dowels, or special euro ties. On dowels - non-separable, on ties - collapsible. So, as before, I used a Wolfcraft Dowelmaster dowel jig.

Begin:

My favorite screwdriver. It's very convenient.

Here is the first mistake. Never fix dowels with glue in the middle of the process. You will do this when all the response holes are ready.

We drill answers. We use a drilling depth limiter.

And here is shown a method of end “copying” the location of dowels from one panel to another.

We attach the guides to the right pillar. The second mistake is never make standing joints!

40mm panels are heavy. The wooden surface is soft. Care is required.

First fitting.

Blum boxes are very easy to assemble.

We attach the support brackets to the wall. Once upon a time I discovered Fisher fastening products (dowels). Since then I haven’t cheated on her. The pleasure is expensive, but it's worth it.

I printed a template for the washbasin. The toilet and washbasin are Laufen brands, Mimo series. All products of this brand are well documented and presented on the website. The first sign of a quality product is first-class, accessible documentation. Europe knows a lot about this. Grohe, Blum, Laufen - a pleasure to work with.

Zip and it's done. Only a jigsaw needs good files. Most of this sloppy drink is hidden under the sink. The part that is visible to the eye is the finishing cuts made in production circular saw. Don’t try to make clean saws with a jigsaw - it won’t work, and your bathroom furniture will be hopelessly damaged.

We connect the tap and... To prevent water from getting under the washbasin, I bought a TESA window seal and pasted it around the perimeter of the washbasin from below. Whether a furniture master will do this for you, I doubt it, he’ll probably kill it.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in making cabinet furniture.

And this is quite an exciting activity.

DIY bathroom furniture: material, assembly, finishing

For some time I was faced with the task of making a cabinet for the attic floor bathroom. storage tank for water. Looking ahead, the problem was successfully solved with minimal time and money; The cabinet performs its direct functions for almost three years without losing its original appearance or being damaged by contact with water. In this article I am going to talk about what and how it is made.

The photo shows a cabinet for a water tank in my attic.

Material

In my case, the following requirements were imposed on the cabinet:

  • Maximum strength. She had to keep her height a little more than a meter a tank with a hundred liters of water;

Captain Obviousness suggests: raising the tank was necessary in order to provide sufficient water pressure to operate the water tap and fill the toilet cistern on the attic floor.

  • Easy to assemble (if possible without using furniture fittings). The fact is that the cabinet was made in the midst of finishing the attic, and it was irrational to spend significant time on it;
  • Resistant to the inevitable splashes of water near the bathtub. As you know, any wood-based materials are hygroscopic and tend to swell in a humid environment.

What are bathroom furniture made from taking these requirements into account?

I chose FC plywood 15 mm thick. It has much greater strength than laminated chipboard or MDF, and can be connected end-to-end with self-tapping screws. From furniture board plywood was favorably priced (at the time of purchase - about 600 rubles per sheet measuring 1525x1525 mm).

To protect against moisture, it was supposed to apply a protective waterproof coating to the cabinet, which I will talk about a little later.

Installation

Cutting parts

If you wish, it’s easy to find drawings of bathroom furniture with your own hands on the Internet; in my case, the details of a structurally simple cabinet were marked directly on a sheet of plywood.

To cut them out it turned out to be convenient to use:

  • On straight cuts of considerable length - circular saw . It is carried out along the cutting line at a minimum speed - in this case the cut is the most even, without raised chips;
  • When cutting curved parts or on short straight cuts, use a jigsaw. On curved lines it is better to visually control the position relative to the cutting line not marks on the sole of the jigsaw, but the files themselves. The cutting line will still not be perfectly smooth, but at least it will not have significant deviations from the markings.

To cut thick plywood, use wood saws with teeth pointing upward. In this case, the working stroke of the saw presses the plywood sheet against the sole of the jigsaw. A fine file with teeth pointing down causes the jigsaw to bounce off the sheet in an unpredictable direction.

After cutting, the edges and planes of the parts are ground. On edges (especially rounded ones) it is better to use a coarse wood file. To sand the planes of plywood parts, I use an inexpensive oscillating sander with a No. 100 - No. 120 sanding mesh. The surface is prepared for painting or varnishing sandpaper- zero.

If you have a disc sander, even better.

Assembly

Making bathroom furniture from plywood parts is not difficult: they are joined end-to-end with phosphated or galvanized self-tapping screws 4x45 mm.

The connection of two parts at an angle of 90 degrees looks like this:

  1. In the part that is attached flat to the edge of the second, holes with a diameter of 4 mm are drilled along the edge at a distance of 7 mm from it (half the thickness of the plywood sheet). The step between the attachment points is 15 - 20 cm;
  2. Each hole is countersunk to fit the screw head. I used an 8mm drill bit for the countersink;

  1. The parts are pressed against each other, aligned, after which holes with a diameter of 3 mm are drilled through the previously made holes in the edge of the second part strictly at right angles to it. The instructions are related to the structure of the plywood: if you do not drill holes for the screws, they can cause delamination of the sheet;
  2. A strip of PVA glue is applied to the edge, liquid nails or silicone sealant. Gluing will provide the connection with maximum strength;

The sealant should not protrude beyond the seam. Paints and varnishes do not adhere to it, and blemishes will then have to be removed by sanding.

  1. The parts are tightened with self-tapping screws with moderate force.

Puttying

There will inevitably be small gaps at the joints between the parts; screw heads and defects of the plywood itself (fallen out knots of the top layer of veneer, cracks, etc.) also need puttying. How to level the surface of the product?

For painting I used acrylic putty on wood. It is applied to the defects with a narrow (10-12 cm) spatula at least twice with intermediate drying and sanding. Repeated puttying is necessary because, contrary to the assurances of the manufacturers, the putty, when dried, gives noticeable shrinkage.

Under the varnish, you can choose the same acrylic putty, but not white, but colored. However, its color is quite easy to miss. Here is a simple solution that will allow you to repair defects exactly to match the tone of the plywood surface:

  • Collect sawdust generated when cutting plywood into a clean container. Do not sweep them off the floor, collect only from the surface of the sheet - otherwise dust and dirt will change the color of the improvised putty;
  • Mix sawdust with PVA glue until the consistency of very thick sour cream. After drying, the glue will become transparent, and the color of the putty will exactly match the sawdust.

This composition gives significant shrinkage. In this case, you will have to putty seams, screw heads and plywood defects at least twice.

After the putty has dried, the assembled furniture is sanded again along the planes with a sanding mesh and scratch paper.

Coating

How to make the surface of a manufactured cabinet or other piece of furniture waterproof and waterproof?

I used rubber water-dispersion paint based on acrylic latex. The name is “Rezel+”, the manufacturer is the Sevastopol LLC “Accent”, the price is about 120 rubles per kilogram.

What attracted her?

  • Wear resistance. The coating can be cleaned with any detergents, except abrasive ones;
  • Absolutely waterproof. Suffice it to say that this paint is recommended by the manufacturer as a roof sealant;
  • No odors (composition: water-based acrylic latex);
  • Dries one layer in just one hour.

To apply the paint I used a regular soft brush. The painting was done in four layers, with each layer applied perpendicular to the previous one.

If you use a roller or sprayer, the coating will be smoother.

Waterproofing paint isn't the only coating that can withstand splashes and high humidity. For another project (my daughter's changing table) I used alkyd urethane yacht varnish. It emphasizes the texture of the top layer of veneer, which has a very pleasant effect on appearance products.

There are several subtleties to applying varnish.

  • After applying the first (priming) layer with a brush or roller and drying it completely, all furniture surfaces are sanded again. The varnish lifts wood fibers on the surface of the veneer and makes it rough to the touch. Sanding will allow you to get a smooth finish without applying dozens of layers of varnish;

  • Subsequent varnishing is performed in one go. The varnish is not applied with a brush or roller, but is poured onto a horizontal plane and spread evenly over it with a wide steel spatula. This method of varnishing will allow you to obtain the coveted smooth glassy surface with a minimum number of flaws;

  • The next surface of the cabinet or other product is varnished in the same way after drying the previous wall. Drying at room temperature takes at least two days, so you should be patient.

Conclusion

I hope that my experience will be useful to the dear reader. The video in this article will help you learn more about how to make bathroom furniture with your own hands. Feel free to share your own experience in the comments. Good luck, comrades!

If you want to express gratitude, add a clarification or objection, or ask the author something - add a comment or say thank you!

Today furniture has become a must-have attribute of any bathroom. It is almost impossible to imagine this room without a washbasin cabinet, wall cabinet or shelves. Of course, you will have to pay a considerable amount for high-quality and attractive products. However, there is a way to save a little by purchasing bathroom furnishings.

A well-known postulate says that only very wealthy people can afford cheap things. Paradoxical as it may seem, there is some truth in this. To purchase bathroom furniture cheaply, you will have to thoroughly study this market to determine a reasonable balance between the cost of the design and its quality.

When purchasing furniture, try to choose reliable, but not the most expensive models

Therefore, when choosing a bathroom set, you must approach this task wisely. Considering specific features rooms, it’s worth considering how long models made from the simplest and most moisture-resistant materials can last. Of course, damaged furniture will entail additional costs for its repair or the purchase of a new set.

Remember that the best option would be to purchase a headset in the mid-price segment. It should be borne in mind that the products of world-famous companies always cost slightly more than similar, but not branded, products. In this case, you will overpay not for quality, but for the name.

The cost of furniture may depend on its shape; rectangular models will be slightly cheaper

It is advisable to pay attention to the range of products domestic production. Very often, the quality and appearance of such products are slightly inferior to foreign ones, but, as a rule, they are a little cheaper due to the peculiarities of trade in the domestic market.

Ways to reduce cost

Sometimes there are situations when there is not enough money to purchase truly high-quality furniture, but a purchase must be made. In this case, you can try to limit yourself to choosing a headset of dubious quality and furniture varnish.

To extend the life of the product, simply cover it with two layers of paint and varnish products. Special attention At the same time, pay attention to the lower ends, which are constantly in contact with the floor, and the facades. If the edges are not treated, it is better to cover them with plastic before impregnating them with varnish. This can be done by contacting any furniture manufacturer.

However, this method is not a panacea. Remember that such a surface does not withstand mechanical stress very well, so you need to use such cabinets with extreme caution.

Varnishing inexpensive furniture will extend its service life

The optimal solution, of course, would be inexpensive bathroom furniture made from moisture-resistant materials. A detailed consideration of the features of each of them will greatly facilitate the choice of product.

Polymers

Plastic furniture sets are a pretty reasonable purchase for the bathroom. This substance is not at all afraid of moisture and small temperature changes. The range of such products pleases with a variety of shades and shapes. In addition, these products today have a very affordable price.

Plastic furniture is not afraid of moisture and looks attractive

However, such cheap bathroom furniture also has disadvantages. These usually include brittleness and significant ductility due to the influence of too high temperatures. These structures cannot withstand significant loads and mechanical stress.

Chipboards

Another not very expensive, but suitable material for the bathroom. The main thing is to choose furniture from sheets waterproof chipboard or MDF. The second option will be more preferable, since such a sheet has high density and more hygienic. Moreover, it is better to choose painted products, since a layer of acrylic dye and varnish will provide better hydrophobicity than a polymer film. However, such headsets are slightly higher in price than those made from chipboard, although they will last a little longer.

Sets made of chipboard and MDF are quite spacious and practical

A common disadvantage will be the possibility of swelling of furniture made from these materials due to possible mechanical damage coating or the appearance of microcracks.

Glass

Large glass furniture is different high cost, however, purchasing several shelves from this material is available to everyone. Glass is not afraid of moisture and temperature changes; its surface prevents mold from growing on it. In addition, such furniture looks very aesthetically pleasing and can add lightness to the interior. In a bathroom of any size and stylistic direction glass always looks appropriate and goes well with other materials.

Glass shelves will complement any interior style

If we talk about the disadvantages of such shelves, usually these products require careful handling and careful maintenance to maintain their original aesthetic appearance.

Purchasing furniture as a set

Today, many manufacturers produce bathroom furniture as complete modular sets. This allows the consumer to choose the set of products they need a little cheaper than buying them separately. In addition, each of the presented collections is designed in a single stylistic and color scheme.

So, for bathrooms with a modest area, it is usually enough to purchase a washbasin with a cabinet and wall cabinet above it and several glass shelves. This set can be rationally fit into a room of any size and geometry.

Do not clutter the room with a large number of cabinets

Large bathrooms will require additional furnishings to this mandatory minimum. In this case, one of inexpensive options The purchase will include the choice of a pencil case and an additional wall cabinet.

It is important to choose multifunctional products. Purchasing a separate mirror will require additional costs, so choose cabinets and pencil cases with mirrored fronts. Important role The spaciousness of the structures also plays a role here. Sometimes, a regular wall cabinet holds a sufficient number of items for personal hygiene, and a cabinet under the washbasin - household chemicals. In this case, you can refuse to buy a pencil case, and purchase an additional corner laundry basket and several shelves from the same collection.

Plastic chests of drawers will replace a full-fledged pencil case

Self-production

Undoubtedly handmade bathroom furniture will be cheap compared to purchasing already ready-made structures. In addition, you can always create a unique set, so different from all standard products. Also, making furniture yourself will help you use your bathroom space more efficiently. In addition, you can always guarantee a certain quality of systems if all necessary technologies their assembly and coloring.

For this purpose, moisture-resistant boards of wood-based materials or regular boards. The only thing that needs to be said is, choose only those that are resistant to high humidity hardwood good quality drying. This seemingly insignificant nuance will help extend the life of the product by several years.

Furniture can be given an attractive look using acrylic dyes and varnish. So, you can paint the set at your discretion. If the style involves preserving the natural texture of wood, it would be appropriate to use stain and varnish the product in several layers.

Even a novice craftsman can make such furniture

Even for a novice craftsman, it will not be difficult to build several shelves and cabinets. The key to successful work will be serious theoretical training and the acquisition of the tools necessary for the work. Usually the following kit is sufficient:

  • drill and screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • Screwdriver Set;
  • wooden and regular hammer;
  • pliers;
  • set of hexagonal furniture keys.

Of course, you can’t do without a tape measure with a pencil, a square with a hacksaw and special fasteners. It would also be a good idea to purchase wood putties, special glue and fittings.

General operating principles

Of course, all technological process It’s quite difficult to describe, but there are general approaches for this type of work. You should start with a detailed drawing of the future product indicating all its parameters. You should also calculate the dimensions of all furniture components in order to cut out the necessary parts.

Having no experience in making furniture, it is better to start with simple designs

At this stage of work, it is optimal to contact specialists, since even a minor error in calculations can lead to disastrous consequences. In addition, you can cut the material with high quality at most furniture companies and even in construction supermarkets. Doing this at home without special equipment will be very problematic.

Finished parts should be immediately treated with antifungal impregnation and at least one coat of paint. So, you will increase the hydrophobicity of the material. After all, coloring already ready product, you will not be able to reach hard-to-reach places. It is best to first mark the parts for fasteners and drill holes, and then paint them.

When assembling elements into a single whole, try to maintain right angles, since even minor distortions can negatively affect the overall aesthetics and quality of the furniture. Experienced craftsmen first completely assemble the structure, and install the fittings on the finished object. This principle will help to avoid accidental miscalculations with its hanging. Remember, accuracy and lack of haste in this matter are very important.

If you do not have furniture making skills, do not take on overly complex furniture systems. For example, an excellent solution in this case would be a shelf on ready-made consoles or ordinary rectangular cabinets. It is better to postpone the production of corner and other fancy shapes for a while. You can add originality to a product even in the most ordinary configuration using various decor– stencils or painting in different shades, as well as unusual fittings.

You can make bathroom furniture from anything

Comfortable furniture in the bathroom is necessary element arrangement of any apartment. A cabinet under the sink, wall shelves for medicines and hygiene items (organizer) or a large floor cabinet in the bathroom for storing linen, towels and detergents- all this can be found in furniture stores, but the available offerings may not always match customer desires in design, size or - most importantly - cost. In case you are a supporter individual approach, you can make bathroom furniture with your own hands. This will require some investment of time and a certain workspace, but if the work is done correctly, the result will definitely justify all the difficulties.

The design and purpose of bathroom furniture is limited only by the available space and your own imagination. The most common and used models:

  • organizer - wall cabinet with mirror and shelves above the sink
  • vanity unit with countertop
  • built-in base cabinet household appliances(washing machine)
  • floor cabinet big size for storing linen, clothes and towels

Each piece of furniture performs its own separate function. When designing bathroom furniture with your own hands, you must take into account the load that will fall on the base and shelves during use. For example, a cabinet under the sink or a cabinet for a washing machine must be assembled with an impressive margin of safety. This applies to both the choice of material and the design of the position of the stiffeners, as well as the fastening used subsequently.

A DIY wall cabinet with a mirror for the bathroom takes on less of a load, but its direct function is to provide maximum space for storing “thousands of little things” with a minimum volume. Therefore, the walls of the organizer are usually made narrow, but a large number (5-7) of small shelves are inserted inside. For a better aesthetic appearance and increased functionality, it is better to make doors for all cabinets.

For linen chests of drawers and cabinets, it is important to have spacious drawers. Several holes with a diameter of 10-12 cm should be immediately made in the walls of the boxes for good ventilation. For smooth movement, it is best to equip the structure with block longitudinal rails with a closer.

Design and drawings

Before making a cabinet or cabinet, it is necessary to take very accurate measurements. As experience shows, in the bathroom there is often very little space when large quantities fixed elements (bathtub, pipes, walls, sink, toilet), so the final discrepancy in size even by 10-15 mm can be critical.

There are only three options for designing furniture:

  1. select in furniture showroom model suitable in shape and copy the drawing
  2. find a ready-made assembly diagram on the Internet and adjust the materials according to it
  3. completely draw the architecture yourself (by hand or in a 3D editor)

Despite the fact that the drawings are made at an amateur level, it is necessary to maintain high accuracy and precision in their execution. It must be taken into account that they may subsequently need to be provided to the sawing shop or to the seller when purchasing material and fittings. To avoid misunderstandings and not pay extra, you should check the accuracy of the drawings after finishing work on them. It is better to do calculations on furniture parts separately and in a large format. This will help avoid confusion.

Selection of materials

On the market today you can find a huge number different materials, but not all of them are suitable for assembling bathroom furniture. Most important point for this room it is, of course, moisture resistance. The material must not only be resistant to constantly humid air, but also impervious to direct contact with water. Thus, the main things bathroom furniture is made from are wood with appropriate impregnation, plastic and glass.

Plastic is easy to process, but it is fragile, quite soft and not always aesthetically pleasing. It should be used not for the frame of the structure, but for auxiliary elements. Glass is also very fragile and heavy. In addition, fixing glass is also relatively more difficult than other materials. It is better to use it for shelves or doors.

The wood that can be used for the frame and all structural parts can be in the following form:

  • ordinary board (pine, birch, etc.) This is cheaper, but raw boards they take longer to process, they are heavier and workpieces of the required width are not always available
  • plywood. With proper sanding, impregnation and varnishing, this material is well suited for any furniture, including in the bathroom. The only negative is that initially plywood always has its own woody color, and painting it is additional work.
  • laminated chipboard (LDSP) with moisture-resistant seams. Optimal material for price and variety of colors. It is a little inferior to plywood in terms of rigidity, but with the correct design this does not matter

The tabletop deserves special attention. The materials for its manufacture are boards, chipboards, plastic or stone. This is the most functional element, so it must be provided with reliable fastening and have high strength.

You select the thickness of the materials based on your drawing. It is necessary to take into account that for the supporting frame of an organizer or cabinet it is better to choose plywood from 15 mm, laminated chipboard – from 20 mm. On the contrary, it is better to make shelves, doors and drawers from thin sheets(5-10 mm) to reduce the weight of the structure.

You can cut the blanks yourself or order them from a workshop. To prepare yourself, you will need a jigsaw. When working with laminated chipboard, it is better to glue the laminating layer with tape and run a cutter along the cut line. Then it will be possible to avoid its splitting.

Selection of accessories

The choice of fastening and functional parts is no less important than the selection of material. The frame can be fastened using:

  • nails The simplest, but inconvenient option. Your structure will not be dismountable and will become loose over time.
  • self-tapping screws This option is more convenient and reliable, but does not look very good aesthetically.
  • confirmats (specialized furniture screws). This best option fastenings Holes of a smaller diameter should be drilled for the comfirmats. This design is easy to disassemble and looks good
  • minifix (eccentric ties). Complex mounting that requires additional training blanks You will need a pen to drill out the glass. The advantage of this type of fastening is that it is invisible on the outside of the frame.

For additional fastening, it is sometimes necessary to use corners, wooden dowels and moisture-resistant glue. Necessary functional elements for bathroom furniture:

  • handles for doors and drawers. It is better to choose metal or plastic, they are easier to clean from dirt;
    legs and wall mountings. It is not recommended to place the frame directly on the floor. You can attach the organizer to the wall using dowels and screws, hooks, or more complex kitchen mounting boxes
  • hinges for doors. Use hinges with closers, they provide pleasant ergonomics, although they are more expensive
  • longitudinal guides. It is better to place the boxes on longitudinal rails, also with a closer, so that they open smoothly and completely
  • shelf holders. Small corners can be used with glass; regular metal pins look better with wood

For cosmetic items, you can purchase corners for hiding frame joints and end strips for decorating laminated chipboard cuts.

Assembling furniture from blanks

To assemble the structure you will need a drill, a screwdriver (or a regular screwdriver), sometimes a hammer and wrench. It is better to place something on the floor before making the cabinet (fabric, cardboard) so as not to damage the workpiece. What you need to pay attention to:

  • in the bathroom, it is better to additionally seal the joints on the frame (especially under the countertop) and with the wall with silicone sealant
  • all holes for fittings must be drilled before assembling the frame
  • fastening points should be re-tightened after 1-2 days of use to ensure tight lapping of surfaces

Following these simple recommendations Based on the choice of materials, fasteners and parts, as well as the assembly features, you can quickly make an organizer, shelves, cabinet, floor cabinet or wall cabinet for your bathroom with your own hands. It should be noted that the price will be cheaper than the finished product, but you should not count on significant savings. It is better to choose material and accessories for maximum comfortable use, and not for the purpose of saving money.
