Carved candles can be wedding, New Year, Easter.

They are made from cosmetic paraffin and are completely safe to use. The process of making carved candles can be seen in this video:..

First you need to make a paraffin preparation. Most often it is a five- or six-pointed star. Its height depends on how tall you want the candle to be. To begin with, you can make it 30 cm high.

You need to prepare baths with molten wax different colors. It is clear that the number of baths is determined by the number of flowers. The baths should maintain a constant temperature of 70-90 degrees Celsius.

It is necessary to attach a wire to the workpiece and use it to dip it into the bath. This process is simple at first glance. In fact, he is very responsible! After all, a lot depends on how quickly you immerse the workpiece and for how long, what exactly will be the temperature of the wax in the bath. After each immersion in wax, the workpiece can be lowered into cold water, this will speed up the process. But you can’t wait for each layer to cool completely! In this case, cutting the candle will become impossible.

Cutting is also a very important moment, in fact, determining the type of candle. The main difficulty is that cutting takes only ten to fifteen minutes. In addition, there will be no opportunity to redo anything. It’s natural if at first you don’t get a particularly beautiful candle. It's okay - the person walking will manage the road.
And finally, you need to trim the base and make a tray where the wick will burn.

I looked at a lot of master classes and chose only these - the presented craftswomen have the most elegant and color scheme and the shape of the candles is obtained :-)

Carved candles can be useful for various occasions: for example, for a wedding, Easter or even New Year. But it’s not always possible to get the right amount these important and beautiful things. It's OK! You can make carved candles with your own hands. Moreover, crafts can turn out even more original than store-bought goods.

Stages of work

Creating carved candles involves the following steps:

  • A paraffin blank is cast;
  • A heated container is equipped;
  • The workpiece is immersed in heated paraffin to obtain required number layers;
  • The candle is cut;
  • The product is coated with varnish to secure it.

There is nothing complicated in this process. Search necessary tools It won't be difficult either.

Materials for candles

To get started, you should stock up on the following materials:

  • Paraffin (as an option, wax is suitable) - you need to acquire only purified material that does not contain any chemical additives.
  • The base is also usually made of paraffin or wax material, to which special impurities are added to fix it. In addition, the base components allow the candle to burn evenly without polluting the air with smoke.
  • Molds - presented in different shapes. Typically, they are made from plastic, metal or silicone. Of course, one should take into account the fragility plastic molds- molten paraffin sticks to the walls, after which they are damaged when trying to pull out the product. Silicone is famous for its good elasticity and tolerates high temperatures and, perhaps, can be considered as best option. It is enough for two hundred blanks.
  • The wick is selected specifically for the product being manufactured, since its texture is determined by the shape and height of the candle. To create it, special threads are used that are tightly intertwined with each other. If you choose the wrong wick, it will quickly go out or, conversely, smoke heavily.
  • Varnish - thanks to it, products are shiny and protected from negative impact. Of course, it is necessary to select a special substance that does not release any toxins when exposed to fire. enjoy acrylic varnish You can’t, because it won’t be possible to lay it evenly. Varnishes used in art should also be avoided, as they smell extremely unpleasant.
  • Fat-soluble dyes.
  • A container designed for melting paraffin - it’s wonderful if such a container is made of stainless steel steel material. It is also desirable to have wooden stand because the bath gets very hot.

Having the materials listed above, you can safely start working on creating carved candles at home. Even beginners can cope with this activity.

Manufacturing instructions

You should consider in more detail the actions performed when creating carved candles:

  • A wire is attached to a workpiece made of paraffin. This will allow the process of dipping the workpiece into wax to occur more conveniently.
  • It is advisable to place a container with cold water nearby.
  • First, the workpiece is dipped into one of the colors, kept in it for some time and removed. Immediately after this, it should be lowered into water. This will allow the wax layer to cool and spread evenly.
  • The workpiece is wiped and immersed in next color. The same actions are performed. In total, about two dozen layers are created.
  • The bottom of the candle is cut off after painting is completed.
  • A hole is made at the top for the wick.
  • You should cut the candle without delaying the time - until the wax hardens. To do this, special scissors are used to cut the strips, starting from the top layers.
  • You can do with the stripes as you wish - bend them, turn them inside out, or braid them. Fantasy is not limited!
  • Finally, the candle is lowered into the varnish.

Perhaps those who make such crafts for the first time may not succeed perfectly, but several attempts will help improve their skills. Candles, which initially appeared simple, will gradually become more complex; additional decorative elements can be added to them and their shape can be changed.

It is not surprising that many people start making carved candles for their own pleasure, that is, they consider this business their own hobby. And then they successfully make a small home business(when they see that the candles they make are quite capable of being in high demand among buyers).

The candles themselves become beautiful decorative element for many interiors, not only complementing, but also creating a unique style.

We will tell and show you how each of the carved candles is created. You will see that there are no tricks here; anyone can try to make their own candle at a master class or even learn all the intricacies and receive a candle maker certificate.

To make a carved candle you will need this base. It can be in the shape of a 6- or 8-pointed star. We cast bases from a mixture of paraffin and stearin. This composition ensures the candle burns evenly and brightly.
We tie the base directly by the wick to a special hook.

A multi-colored candle is obtained by repeatedly dipping the base into hot liquid paraffin. To maintain the temperature, we use special equipment, invented and developed by us. Stir the paraffin with bamboo sticks to dissolve all the clots, remove the crust formed on the surface and distribute the dye evenly.

Let’s start dipping :) One dip, one layer. The more layers, the wider the strip of this color will be on the cut.

After each dive, be sure to lower the future candle into cold water to fix the new layer of paraffin.

If the design requires that the colors do not mix, each color is completed with a layer of white paraffin - it will be invisible in the cut. We need to get a light green color, so the yellow blank is dipped directly into green paraffin.

As you can see, the candle has already noticeably “fatten”.

And this is the color we got.

We dip the workpiece in the desired colors several more times. Upper layer our candle will be red, so we need to properly “cover” the other colors with white, which is what we do.

Candles come in different sizes, and each of them requires a certain number of layers, so you need to calculate exactly how many times to dip the blank in each color. Some time before the completion of dipping, we cut these grooves so that the candle does not turn into a smooth cylinder. As you can see, even several layers of white still did not cover up the green color.

Finally the right one White color achieved.

A few more dips in paraffin - and this is what happened.

Here begins the second and most important part - cutting the candle. While the paraffin is soft, it can be cut and bent as desired. The master has about 20 minutes before it completely hardens. During this time the candle should be ready.

First, cut off the excess from the bottom. It’s a shame, but these beautiful “stalactites” will have to be thrown away - they are not suitable for recycling.

And here is our master Ekaterina. 🙂

She also hates throwing away the scraps, so voila! - they make this little candle.

The first cut is made. All elements are cut from bottom to top. From the outside it looks like cutting off a petal required thickness easy, but as soon as you try it yourself, it turns out that the knife behaves as it wants. It takes a little practice to get the hang of it.

And now the first row of curls is ready. Let's move on to the next row. Cut and wrap.

Ready! And again curls. So the light green color appeared. 🙂

There is a certain set of basic elements that the master can combine as desired. There are also “traditional” forms of candles, in which the entire sequence of actions is determined in advance. In our case, the master himself decides what the candle will look like.

Now we have reached the top of the candle.

But that is not all! With a special knife in the shape of a loop, we cut out thick strips in the recesses, like the grooves that we made at the preparatory stage.

They turn into cute “snails” and spirals.

We remove the candle from the crossbar, use a special round knife to cut out the top to the base so that the candle looks neat and burns better.

All that remains is to attach the label to the wick. The master is pleased. 🙂

After this, the candle is additionally coated with varnish, which helps to better bond all the elements and gives the candle a shine. Our candle left the display case in 10 minutes, without even having time to dip into the varnish. 🙂 By the way, the burning time of such a candle is approximately 20 hours.

Video of the complete process of creating a carved candle, starting with pouring the base. The video shows a larger candle - about 50 cm in height. 🙂

As you can see, anyone can learn candle making, if they just want to. 🙂

Handmade is gaining more and more popularity. Extravagant jewelry, paintings, toys, decorative elements, gifts - this is just a small part of what passionate craftsmen and amateurs create with their own hands. Today we will talk about how to make a candle at home.

This process does not require special skills or equipment. After reading our recommendations and detailed master classes, even beginners can begin this exciting process.

CREATING A CANDLE: WHERE TO START

Making your own candles is much easier than you might think. And the main advantage of such an activity is necessary materials easy to get. If you look hard enough, you can even find them in your home.

MATERIALS FOR HOMEMADE CANDLES

Wax, stearin or paraffin are best suited for the job. Moreover, it is better for beginners to start getting acquainted with the latter; it is the least demanding to use. You can buy paraffin at the store or use leftover old white candles.

WICK

It is best to use natural threads as a wick, ideally thick cotton ones. Do not try to use synthetics: such a wick will quickly burn and leave behind bad smell. To check if the thread is natural, simply set fire to its tip. If it melts, forming a hard ball at the end, you have synthetics.

If you have an unusual candle in mind and are thinking about how to make an original wick for it, then use colored floss threads. This is an excellent and natural material.

Remember important rule: the thicker the candle, the thicker the wick should be.

It's easy to make it yourself. To do this, prepare a solution: in a glass of water, dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt and 2 tablespoons boric acid. Soak cotton thread or floss in it for 12 hours. Then dry them and twist them into a rope or braid them.

If you find this process tedious, carefully remove the wick from your finished household candle and use it.

CANDLE Mold

First of all, decide on the configuration of the desired candle, and then try to find a hollow object of the same shape. You may find it useful:

Cardboard bags for milk and juices;
. plastic cups for yoghurts and desserts;
. egg shells;
. silicone baking molds;
. glass goblets, wine glasses, glasses and glasses;
. baby beads;
. shaped ice cream molds;
. tin and glass coffee jars;
. empty tin cans.

The only requirement is that the mold material must withstand heating up to 100°C.

Another interesting option- pour candles into beautiful transparent glasses. You won’t be able to get them, but they will look very stylish and unusual.

Sometimes scented candles are made in tangerine or orange peel. The fruit is first cut in half and the pulp is carefully removed. You can also use large shells or coconut shells.

DYES

A white candle is elegant but boring. Naturally, the question arises of how to color paraffin in order to obtain bright decorations interior

For lovers of candle making, the best and cheapest option is to take wax crayons for children's creativity. Want to get a special candle? Look for pearlescent crayons - your creation will be unique.

Do not try to use water-soluble gouache or watercolor - you will fail. The dye will inevitably settle to the bottom or fall out in flakes. Ready product will look very unpresentable.

Utensils for melting paraffin

In order to melt the paraffin, you will need a small saucepan for a steam bath and an iron bowl. Experienced craftsmen recommend heating paraffin in a steam bath, considering other methods, including the microwave, to be fire hazardous.

To begin with, we recommend that you also use this method, proven over the years: place a bowl of paraffin in a container of boiling water. If you plan to have a colored candle, add the chalk immediately and stir the melted mass several times to obtain a uniform color.

FLAVORS AND DECOR

Any available materials are suitable for decorating candles. First, decide on the topic of your work. Pebbles and shells will effectively complement candles in nautical style. For a New Year's theme, use beads, small cones, small decorative balls, ribbons and bows. Decorate Valentine's Day candles with hearts, sparkles, bows, dried flowers, coffee beans, etc.

It is best to scent homemade candles with essential oils, which can be purchased at your nearest pharmacy. Another option is to find vanilla cinnamon in your kitchen. You should add flavors to the melted paraffin at the very end, after coloring.

STEP-BY-STEP MASTER CLASSES

We bring to your attention a selection of accessible master classes that will help beginners learn basic techniques and techniques. If you already know how to create candles with your own hands, you can draw interesting ideas from them to implement in your creativity.

To work you will need:
. paraffin;
. whole coffee beans;
. wick;
. two plastic cups different sizes;
. wick holder - a teaspoon, a wooden stick or a plastic coffee stirrer.

If you don’t find paraffin, take household candles, you can also get a wick from them.

Crush the paraffin into small pieces with a knife to speed up the melting process. If you took store-bought candles, carefully crush them with the blunt side of a knife so as not to damage the wick.

Place paraffin in glass jar and put it in a saucepan with warm water. Heat the water over low heat until the paraffin is completely melted in the jar - it should become transparent.

At this time, prepare the mold for pouring. To a larger a plastic cup, place the smaller one after filling it with water. There should be a fairly wide space between the walls of the cups. Pour coffee beans up to half the height between the walls.

Pour the melted paraffin into the mold to the level of the grains, wait about 10 minutes. Then pour the paraffin to the edge of the mold and let it harden completely. This will take about an hour.

Carefully pour the water out of the inner glass and remove it from the paraffin ring. Lower the wick into the workpiece so that it reaches the bottom of the glass. Tie its upper end to the holder and place it on top of the glass, centering the wick.

Pour melted paraffin into the middle of the candle. Place a few grains on top for decoration. Now you will have to wait 4-6 hours until the candle hardens completely.

Carefully remove the frozen candle from the glass. At the same time, it can be cut with scissors to facilitate manipulation.

If you want the grain to be better visible, blow the sides of the product with hot air from a hairdryer. The paraffin will melt and the surface will become embossed.

It turned out to be an excellent aroma candle, isn’t it? Do you want to make it even more romantic? We invite you to use the same technology to create heart-shaped candles that will become an unforgettable gift for your significant other for Valentine's Day or a birthday.

COLORFUL CANDLES IN LAYERS

Spectacular multi-colored candles in a transparent glass will become the highlight of your interior. How to make them, see our master class, illustrated with step-by-step photos.

Materials

Before you make colored candles with your own hands, prepare:

Transparent wax;
wax crayons;
disposable paper cups;
glass cups;
wicks;
ice cream sticks;
aroma oils;
microwave oven;
grater

Step 1. Grate regular transparent wax and fill paper cups with the resulting material. They only need to be filled a quarter full with this material.

Step 2: Microwave the cup for 45 seconds. Get it out. Stir the wax wooden stick. It should melt completely; if this does not happen, place the glass in the oven for another 30 seconds.

Step 3. Place the wick in an empty glass cup. You can attach the other end to an ice cream stick and place it on the top of the cup. This will make it easier for you to continue working. Pour some wax into the glass and wait until it sets. Thus, the wick should be fixed in the center of the cup.

Step 4: Remove the paper wrapping from the wax crayons. Grate them and add desired color crayons into separate cups with wax. Add shavings of one pencil to a third of a glass of wax to get a fairly rich color.

Step 5. Place the glass of colored wax in the microwave for 2.5 minutes. Take it out and, stirring, add a few drops of your chosen aromatic oil. You don't have to do this, but with oil your candles will emit a pleasant aroma.

Step 6. While holding the wick, pour the first layer of colored wax into the glass. To obtain interesting pattern, tilt the cup at an angle and hold it in this position until the wax sets.

Step 7. In the same way, melt cups with wax of a different color and also, but at the opposite angle, pour them one by one into a glass cup. Fix the container in different positions each time until the wax sets.

Step 8. After forming a multi-colored candle, let the wax cool completely.

Bright and unusual candles are ready. You can use them for their intended purpose or give them to friends as souvenirs.

WE DECORATE CANDLES USING DECOUPAGE TECHNIQUE

If you don’t have dye, but want to create something bright and memorable, don’t worry. The simplest candle made from cinders can be turned into a work of art. To do this, you need to have a little patience and decorate the product to your liking.

CANDLE DECORATED WITH DRIED FLOWERS

Dried leaves, stems and flowers will help you create an exclusive candle that will be almost impossible to repeat. Usage natural materials limited only by the local flora and your imagination. This is when the ability to collect a herbarium will come in handy.

*photo by Lyudmila Klimova

To work you will need:
. any dried flowers;
. 2 candles - for decoration and a regular one;
. tea spoon;
. tweezers;
. nail scissors;
. paraffin for final coating.

From the dried flowers you have available, create a composition that you want to bring to life.

Heat a teaspoon over a regular burning candle ( inside over the fire, because the spoon will turn a little black, and in order not to stain the candle, we will then carry out all manipulations with the other side of the spoon).

Place a dry flower on the candle to be decorated and gently stroke its petals outside spoons so that they melt to the paraffin and do not stick out. Thick stems may need to be ironed several times while heating the spoon.

Carefully trim off any excess stems that extend beyond the candle with scissors.

Glue the remaining elements in the same way, choosing the desired location for them. Make sure that the edges of the leaves and petals do not stick out.

All that remains is to consolidate the result. Melt the paraffin in a water bath and pour it into a container into which you can completely dip the decorated candle.

Holding the candle by the wick, immerse it in melted paraffin, place it on a flat surface and let cool. If the petals were not smoothed well and protruding ends remain visible, repeat this procedure again.

Such an elegant candle will conquer any heart and will not go unnoticed. Complement it with a beautiful candlestick and it will become a unique decoration for your home.

DECOUPAGE CANDLES WITH PAPER NAPLES

The desire to decorate a candle could come instantly, but there are no dried flowers at hand. In this case, you can get by with paper napkins. With their help you can easily decorate a candle for any holiday.

Choose a napkin with the pattern you want. Cut out the necessary elements from a napkin. Carefully remove the bottom two layers of paper from the resulting blanks. Further, the principle of operation is similar to decorating with dried flowers.

Place the prepared element on the candle and iron it with a hot spoon. Sand the cooled surface with the rough side of a regular kitchen sponge. There is no need to immerse the candle in melted paraffin with this method.

Your masterpiece is ready. Compose beautiful composition made from candles in New Year's style, fir branches and colored balls. It will bring a good mood and a festive atmosphere to your home.

We were able to convince you that we could create unique masterpieces maybe even from scrap materials? That is why candle making has become a favorite pastime for many, beginners and not only masters.

Original form templates:

Now you know what and how candles are made from, you can get to work. Don't try to use the photo you like as a template and an unconditional ideal. Get inspired finished works to create your own unique candles. A little effort and perseverance - and your masterpieces will become a standard to follow.

I will tell you, how to make a carved candle at home.

You will need:

  • stearin and paraffin (in the proportion of 20% stearin, 80% paraffin),
  • a special form for filling (it is better to make several blanks at once),
  • candle wick,
  • cutting knives,
  • water bath-type designs (you can take two deep pans),
  • dyes for wax (tableted elements of different colors),
  • decorative elements and aromatic essences at your request.

The entire process of creating carved candles can be divided into 6 stages.

Step 1: Creating the main blank (core) of the future candle.

For such candles, blanks in the shape of a 5-pointed or 6-pointed star, up to 30 cm high, are usually used. But everything, of course, depends on what you want to get in the end.

Cooking mixture of paraffin and stearin, in the proportion of 20% stearin, 80% paraffin. This mixture allows you to get stronger candles that do not melt too much, and also makes it easier to remove candles from molds.

Paraffin is the most inexpensive material, melts at low temperature. Paraffin candles burn the least brightly and melt quickly. For candles, stearin or wax is usually added to paraffin.

Stearine is a natural product obtained from fats. It makes the candle hard, helps the dye dissolve better and makes the surface of the candles more shiny.

Heat the mixture in a water bath and pour it into molds. Don’t forget to first stretch the wick, leaving a long tail at first, by which you will later immerse the candle in baths of molten wax.

Do not rush to fill the entire mold at once, otherwise a lot of wax or paraffin may leak out through the hole in the bottom. We pour the wax in layers, and what has flowed out is re-sent for re-melting.

After 4 hours, remove the workpiece.

Step 2: Prepare deep baths with melted wax of different colors.

There should be as many baths as the number of colors you want to get in the layers of the candle. Special paint is used for paraffin. Important condition: Baths must be constantly heated to maintain a constant temperature (56-65 degrees).

If the temperature is higher, the layers will be thinner, which will require more costs time and effort. If it is lower, then on the contrary, there are thick layers and a small number of them.

Step 3: Repeatedly dip the candle in baths of different colors of wax.

The workpiece must be secured to the wick, which will allow you to conveniently immerse the candle in baths of molten wax.

Immerse the candle and immediately remove it. The next time the candle is immersed when the previous layer has hardened a little. But do not wait until the previous layer has completely hardened, otherwise you will not be able to cut the candle later.

To speed up the process, you can immerse the candle in cold water after each immersion in hot wax (this will also require an additional deep bath).

We dip the workpiece in colored paraffin at least 35 - 40 times. We take turns dipping in different colors paraffin (for this candle I dipped in white and green).

Step 4: Cutting the candle is the shortest process.

It should take you no more than 15 minutes. Since the candle must remain in a plastic state.

You won't have time to experiment, so you need to think through everything in advance. It is even advisable to practice on a one-color workpiece, preheating it with a hairdryer or in the microwave until it becomes plastic, but the main thing here is not to overdo it.

We try to ensure that the cut thickness is the same. We bend the sections to the sides and twist them to make a pattern.

Study the photo carefully.
